Culling the Unfortunate, Open / "JT" / R

As if things weren't already bad enough with Col's bombastic introduction another would arrive. The problem child who'd started this entire mess in the first place. Yet as with so many things for Karakura it would only get worse yet as alongside Col came garganta's filled with hollows who found themselves willing to run headfirst into Karakura in desperate attempts to sate themselves. However, Col would not be the only one to bring yet more alongside them, Astrid, the originator of the initial swarm of hollows would arrive on the scene alongside yet another regiment of hollows she'd "found" while she was away. Instead of garganta however, several sigils would appear throughout the city before twisting and turning on themselves. Tearing space apart until a 10-foot holes would appear directly linked to either the Menos Forest or the desert sands of Hueco Mundo.



From one such portal strode out Astrid, clad in a leath jacket, leather jeans, and combat boots. Her hollow "fragment" on full display as a necklace of skulls that had fused with her collar bone on her chest and back. She looked pissed though admittedly found herself more than anything disappointed. A quick glance over the area told her that every hollow she'd sent here previously was dead. Human blood was faint on the air but not nearly enough for the hollows to have actually managed to consume a significant number of people. She growled to herself in frustration only to find momentarily something far more annoying. She heard a male voice, trying to lay claim over Karakura and worse yet it was speaking gibberish. Calling out a threat to some "Vandenreek". She almost dismissed it only to see a blast similar only to Marik's own cero be fired out, heading for a random church.



Astrid got a firsthand look as some of the hollows she'd brought in were evaporated. Body and Soul as far as she was concerned. Her eyes narrowed as she growled louder. "Who the FUCK do the- Wait a second. . . MARIK?!" As interested as she was in ripping apart this arrogant fuck who was interrupting her plans there was someone more worth her time. Someone she knew and someone who shouldn't be here. She could smell him as Marik's scent was one, she'd committed to memory long ago. She needed to track him down and see what in the fuck he was doing here. And if he was fucking with her plans of finding a hollow worth a damn. Looking at the other hollows she'd brought along who were stuck between hunger and fear she let out a roar that sounded about as unhuman as possible. Using her flesh warping abilities to give her a deeper lung capacity as well as temporarily create several different vocal cords to create something akin to a choir of vengeful damned souls all screaming at once. If any words could be made out from this bellowing roar it'd be one phrase "TEAR THEM APART!"



The hollows around her found a new sense of dread within them and immediately ran off into Karakura's streets and buildings below. With a new collection of hollows running rampant she turned her focus to finding Marik. Initially taking a moment to find his scent and then racing off as fast as her body would allow. It'd take maybe a minute at most before she spots him on the streets. Dressed in some ridiculous uniform and with a cup of some bitter shit in his hand. Her eyes narrowed dangerously as she dived down, landing in front of him as she fell feet first onto the cement sidewalk. The concrete shattered and flew bits and pieces of it everywhere, breaking windows, damaging cars, even hitting a few humans nearby. Yet none would find their way going towards Marik as Astrid didn't want to give him the chance to run away from her. Barring her teeth at him she'd half growl and half yell as she grabbed him by the collar and brought him to her face.



"MARIK! What the fuck are you doing here!? And what the fuck is this shit?! You look fucking ridiculous, even more than usual since working for that waste of space in the castle!" She'd then push him back and continue yelling at him. "I bet you came here to fuck up the hollows I brought, didn't you? Don't want someone to pull the same shit you do, eh? Can't let anyone else get a pack of hollows that are worth a damn, eh?!" As far as Marik would be concerned, though she was cursing him out and seemingly as pissed off as ever, her words would hold significantly less bite than usual. It'd seem forced except for the bit about him working for Kouhai. That seemed like genuine distaste. Meanwhile Astrid despite her apparent frustration just stood in front of him and growled lowly. Even her reiatsu would be surprisingly calm without many fluctuations. Her eyes were staring into his own while she waited surprisingly patiently for whatever his answer was. Making no attempt to even interrupt him until he was done.

{Important Details}1. Base hollows will remain unstated and will be causing random attacks throughout Karakura to start, before heading back towards the park. These hollows however will be causing collateral damage along the way.


2. Astrid has two conditions for leaving, with only one needing to be met. Either she can be beaten and forced to leave. Or all the hollows she and Col have brought can be killed off and she'll leave. With regards to low class characters, she will not be releasing if they decide to fight her and will remain with sealed stats.

Should Astrid release her targets will be higher class individuals who can stand up to her. Low class characters will not have to worry about her targeting them at that point. She will not release unless she is fighting someone of a higher class who pushes her to do so. (Class 3+)


3. I will make a Menos Grande mini-boss hollow later that will be class 5 for another roaming "boss" later.


4. Once Astrid leaves the thread will end with respective organizations issuing orders to return to base. Starting with the Vandenriech.

' BEING SECOND BEST....ISN'T SO BAD' 5 paragraphs 28 paragraphs total so far

(1) Maria didn't even have time to respond as Astrid flew into one her fits , that the neon green haired espada had grown so accustomed to in their short time knowing each other. As soon as astrid hands met the gi-gai a sharp pain would reverberate through the body as the chest was caved in.  and was flung through the crowd of people on the street , turning maria in a lethal projectile as they hit the outer concreete of a small electronics stoor.

(2) A crater forming upon impact , Several people would begin screaming and running away a few brave idots began recording on their phones. As Astrid was totally invisible to the average citizen while maria's gi-gai was not. Meaning a random person had just fucking been tossed by some invisible force , The corpse of marik ashwin would twitch for a moment before stepping out of his body with a sigh.

(3) Astrids voice runing in the background as he looked down at his spilled coffee , taking a moment to pinch the bridge of his nose he would look over to her confusion painted on his face. "a pack worth a damn? doing what i do? astrid if was here hunting why arent the buildings on fire? why isnt this town a crater?" he would ask. The question was simple but Astrid had seen his techniques as a hollow and they relied heavily on explosions something he sure she hadn't forgot.

(4) Maria was still keeping herself suppressed and hidden as she didn't want the attention on her whatsoever , 'somthing feels off about her , she's still full of piss and vinegar but....she's not leaking power like some wild animal' it was a sighn of growth and compat prowess on astrid's end in maria's eyes on the matter.

(5) "feels like you've gotten slightly stronger since i last saw you , so what exactly are you even doing here? before you ask why im here , that uniform you saw was my work uniform i work 72 minimum wage jobs no i will not explain why" she said with a sigh as she had heard enough dissaproval from kohai on the matter

Even as she rushed from where she had been towards the church with Hanako and Celes in tow, Ume felt a tingle in her spine. She had nose for spiritual things and, in spite of the increasing weather, something wasn't right. She could see Raphael had taken off towards the church, but there was so much going on. When she suddenly felt the presence of two very  powerful Hollow. Likely arrancar if she were to guess, but the declaration of the newest one made Ume stop. She skidded to a halt on top of a building near the park and immediately, without looking, used shunpo to grab Hanako and pull her behind Celes, just as the massive  Raihou exploded. From what she knew of the former captain, she was a protector of sorts, so Ume felt that it was her best bet. Tossing Hanako to the ground and throwing herself over the student in the moment was purely reactionary. 

With a moment to gather her wits, she pushed up on one palm, her zanpakutou resting against her shoulder in the other hand. There was another tremble and Ume shivered. Not just from the cold. The fountain of Hollows that seemed to be pouring into Karakura town nearly made Ume wretch. "Nonononono!" Ume hopped up and took a step back. "No, this isn't ok!" She squawked. "W-We need to go! We need to call for back up!" 

Ume did a spin, looking up at the sky, which accomplished nothing, and gave her hand a shake. "I know you're watching! Send a senkaimon! I'm not prepared for this!" Ume grabbed her soul phone and her hand was shaking too much to dial anything with her thumb. She stuffed it back into her lab coat and stared at the mess that was going down. "They have to respond, right? There's no way  they would leave this mess to a lab tech and a student!" Ume whined, starting to hyperventilate. 

"Ok. Ok. The mission is still the mission. The factions that gathered are dispirit. No one here but the Quincy is organized. There's at least two Arrancar in the vicinity of Espada level, but they didn't arrive  together. Former Captain Shindazu, who has an unclear allegiance but is likely against both the Vandenreich and the Arrancar." Ume said aloud, and looked at Celes. "The dragon man will, at least, provide a distraction for a moment."

Ume blinked suddenly and pulled out a device. "More hollows!?" She inhaled. "No! Nononono!" She wheezed again. "More! And another strong Hollow! What the heck is going on!?" Ume knew, in her heart of hearts, that panic and indecision would be her death, probably Hanako's death and the loss of information. She grabbed Nijuume's hilt and pulled the eyeball coated bar from it's jar, leaving her holding a dripping, blinking bar of eyeballs in her hand. Ume then plucked two of the eyeballs off of Nijuume. "Here! Try not to let this distract you too much, but with this it will let me keep track of you if we get split up. The mission hasn't changed, Get to the Church and try and get some intel on the Vandenreich but we need to keep these Hollows from overrunning the town too! maybe we can find out why they were here if the ugly bastards don't eat our faces!" 

Ume then slapped an eyeball on each of Hanako and Celes' back, the eyball splurting with an icky noise before a small mark appeared on their backs. The two of them would, in the corners of their eyes, see flashes of visions. Of several different places at once. A small bit of concentration would be enough to tune it out, but they would be able to see out of their own backs, each other's backs, four corners of the roof of a building next to Uzaki Enterprises, out from the belly of a dragon, and blips of vision produced by the eyeballs in Nijume's jar. One of these, at least, was reading heat signatures instead of normal vision. 

Once the marks were placed, Ume jumped off the building they were on. She used her feet to skid down the side and watched as a stream of Hollows came rumbling towards her thanks to the new batch created by Astrid. As she slid down, she closed her eyes and inhaled. "Arise god of thunder! Awake mother of storms! Unleash the lighting on the sinners!" As she landed, she pivoted and thrust out her fist and extended a finger. It began to glow. "Hado #4: Byakurai!" 

A beam of crackling lightning shot down the alley. She hoped that she could clear out at least a few of them. Hopefully all of them. She had grown a lot in a short time, but when it came to the teeth gnashing, face eating monsters, she was still shaking in her boots. If she didn't catch at least a few of them, she would probably get chomped to death.

As Ume turned and leaped to a nearby building, Celes quickly followed suit. It seemed that they were heading back towards the park as Ume had proposed. On the way, Celes became momentarily lost in thought as her body operated on autopilot. What would she do once they came across the Quincy? Ume didn't seem convinced that their ice castle could drastically change the temperature, but Celes had seen what the Nifelheim could do. The fortress had conjured frigid winds that chilled everything to the bone. With this in mind, Celes felt that Quincy were the likely culprit for her ruined morning. Part of her really wanted to knock some goddamn sense into whoever was responsible. At the same time, Celes didn't want to allow herself to become overwhelmed by her emotions. After all, she strongly suspected that Honegumi would invite herself if that ever happened. Before she had a chance to ruminate more, Celes felt something.

It was faint, given her subpar ability to sense reiatsu, but she couldn't ignore it. Instinctively stopping in her tracks, Celes surveyed the horizon. Atop the massive buildings that loomed in the distance was a twinkling, blue orb. Even with her sharpened senses, it was challenging to make out anything concrete. "What the...", she muttered softly. Before long, the reiatsu flared wildly. There was a ferocity to it. Celes started to like this situation less and less as each fleeting moment passed. Electricity soon crackled from the orb and Celes' eyes widened for a brief moment. "By the Soul King..."

Almost instinctively, Celes' body moved on its own. Even now her instincts betrayed her. The former Captain of the Jūbantai often put her safety at risk to protect others. She had done so with Orobas so long ago. The Akki endangered the World of the Living and Celes did what she could to avoid such collateral. This time, however, she had fledglings with her. Mere apprentices in the field. She had to do something! So as the Hado howled through the air, consuming all in its path, Celes formed an Air Ground beneath her and utilized a Shunpo. Just as she vanished from sight, a potent rumbling sounded around her as a sonic boom ripped through the air and threatened the integrity of the building beneath her.

As she surged forth at blazing speeds, the girls' own reiatsu coalesced within her gut. "Bankai.", her voice softly rang. "Soar across the heavens, Kōgōshī Sōkō Gassō!" The air around her shifted as her vital energy sprang to life once more. As she came to a halt, the brilliant jade aura coiled around her as a massive form began to surround Celes faster than most could see. The gargantuan humanoid construct was clad in armor, beads, and sashes. Wild hair accompanied its demonic mask as two yellow orbits lit with malice. Punctuating the appearance of the construct was the mighty beat of its wings that threatened to kick up a storm. Following Celes' movements, the avatar opened its hand as an equally massive greatsword formed within it. With a weapon now in hand, Celes shifted her hand till the tip of the sword pointed towards her feet. Once more, the Bankai mimicked her movements. Col's power play was about to be met by Celes' own.

The Shinigami's heart drummed loudly. Blood vigorously pumped throughout her body, multiplying her already impressive physical prowess. Her circulatory system was in overdrive as her skin tinted a faint red. Then, Celes swiped diagonally upward with monstrous force while planting her foot firmly forward. The construct followed suit to deliver a shockwave that raced to clash with the Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō. As the two attacks clashed, crackles of electricity sparked from the Hadō before splitting in half. The shockwave briefly continued onward, now reduced to a mere gust of forceful wind. Celes smirked triumphantly as her avatar proudly flapped its wings to stay afloat. "Nice job.", Honegumi briefly remarked. Celes was stunned. Her Inner Hollow was complemented her strength? "Now what are we gonna do with the aftermath?", Honegumi said snidely. "Aftermath?", Celes questioned.

So overcome by accomplishment, Celes failed to realize that the split beams whizzed past her as it veered off course. Two beams, albeit much weaker, suddenly struck the ground in the distance. Pillars of electrical fury still stretched into the sky while threatening to consume any unfortunate enough to be caught within the blast. The lime-haired Shinigami's mouth was agape as she shamefully looked away from the chaos. Needless to say, the destruction was still substantial. It wasn't until Celes traced a mental trajectory behind herself that the girl realized that the Hadō was meant for the Vandenreich. The massive construct faded as Celes willed it away, forming an Air Ground beneath her feet to stop herself from falling. With a look of pure guilt on her face, she nervously muttered, "Uh... Umm... They did it!", she childishly pointed in the direction of the building from which the Kidō was fired. "Really...?", Honegumi replied increduously.

{Bankai Overall Ability}Like most Bankai, Kōgōshī Sōkō Gassō aims to further develop Celes' manipulation of qi along with the Astral Soul she commands. Upon releasing Kōgōshī Sōkō Gassō, Ascension of the Astral Soul immediately becomes Rank IV, no matter its former Rank. Transcending the limitations of its Shikai counterpart, the durability of the Astral Soul becomes 3x Celes' Strength. Celes generates 15 Chi per post and Palms & Arms of the Astral Soul now generates 15 Chi per hit. Additionally, when Celes spends Chi in addition to reiatsu for her Zanpakutō techniques, the reiatsu cost is reduced by 50%. Unlike the other stages where Celes was limited to the ground, Heavenly Sentinel grants the Astral Soul legs as Celes takes refuge in the Visage, making it much more difficult to hit her. This also increases the overall height of the Astral Soul to an imposing 40 ft. Additionally, while Bankai is active, Celes suffers less stamina drain from high-intensity movement. Instead of suffering progressively higher stamina drain every 100 speed, this is increased to every 200 speed. Heavenly Sentinel also grants the Astral Soul wings, allowing it to take to the skies and fly at a speed equal to Celes’ which gives it some much-needed aerial mobility. The wings produced by Heavenly Sentinel have separate durability of 3x Celes’ Strength. If the wings are reduced to 0, Celes’ cannot take flight until she uses 25 Chi to restore them. The legs are considered part of the body’s durability. Skeletal, Humanoid, and Armored forms gain a lower body and all benefits associated with it.

{Do-Re-Mi - 2400 OS}Technique Name: Do-Re-Mi

Technique Type: Hakuda

Technique Element: None

Technique Description and Effects:

An advanced Hakuda technique which causes the user to vibrate their arms while also flexing them. This also requires the user to be moving constantly and quickly, maybe running. The blood pumps and increases muscle size and capacity for a few seconds, allowing one hit of advanced strength.

For one single attack, the user's physical strength doubles. If this is used during a technique that increases strength, then the hit strength of that technique is what doubles instead of base strength.

How to use technique:

Must have at least a 3 in Hakuda, 800 speed, and 250 strength. Must be at least Rank Level 3 to learn this technique.

Drawback:

This technique is one of the less straining ones, but regardless is still straining. A healthy specimen may be able to use this technique more, but they will still be hit eventually by heart damage, heart trauma, and muscular pains.

{Spirit Arsenal}Technique Name: Spirit Arsenal

Technique Stages: Shikai/Bankai

Technique Cost: 50 Reiatsu to convert an SkP/5 Chi to convert an SkP; 20 Reiatsu for a projectile/1 Chi for a projectile

Description: Able to utilize a degree of manipulation over her mind and body, Spirit Arsenal allows Celes to modify the type of weaponry she is proficient with. Upon using Spirit Arsenal, Celes' SkP becomes fluid and she can remove points from any of her skills. New weapon skills can then be created, allocating points to them as desired. Any newly created weapon skills can have a maximum of 2 SkP added to them; 4 in Bankai. Any weapon skills created this way are then added as eligible weapons to the Arms of the Astral Self. When converting SkP from one weapon skill to another, the reiatsu cost is halved. While this allows Celes to create ranged weaponry, they not only require ammo, but projectiles travel at 800 Speed; 1200 in Bankai. Melee weapons that have ranged properties such as a Kusarigama are instead counted as melee weapons for the purposes of this technique. When wielded by the Astral Soul, they increase to a size appropriate for use by the Astral Soul.

Additionally, Spirit Arsenal allows Celes to amplify her weaponry using the Astral Soul itself. By sacrificing durability, Celes can increase the OS of a singular weapon attack on a 1:1 basis. If the weapon uses ammo, the projectile increases in OS, but its Speed is also increased by 1 point for every 2 durability sacrificed. If Font of Life is currently applied to the Astral Soul, Celes can also draw on any combination of the Astral Soul and the pool of energy created by Font of Life.

Drawbacks: If a technique requires a certain skill rank prerequisite, lowering that skill below the prerequisite via Spirit Arsenal makes Celes lose access to that technique until the appropriate rank is restored. To place a 4 in a weapon skill via Spirit Arsenal, Celes must reduce at least one 4 in the process. While shifting from one weapon skill to another can be done with little difficulty, restoring her original skills is less efficient. Every post, Celes can shift 1 rank in the weapon skill to the original skill it was drawn from. In Bankai, Celes can shift 2 ranks per post. While ranged attacks benefit from an increase in speed when sacrificing durability, the same does not apply to melee weapons. Points sacrificed from the Astral Soul can risk compromising Celes' defenses, if not used cautiously. Sacrificing durability, or points through Font of Life, to empower these weapons is mutually exclusive with Astral Flow's charges. In essence, if one is used, the other cannot be used within the same post as an attack boost for weapons created via Spirit Arsenal.

Of all the things Astrid meant to do, throwing Marik into a wall wasn't technically the goal. It didn't matter if she did, given the other would survive but she'd be lying if she said that when she threw Marik back that she'd meant for him to slam into a wall. For a moment she almost thought that she'd killed him which was mind boggling until she saw his soul walk out of the gigai. That had things make significantly more sense given that she was now wearing and appearing more what Astrid had remembered them to look like. Once she'd finished her rant she watched him like a hawk, seeing just what he'd do. His return commentary was . . . surprising. Astrid's eyes widened as they started to allow the gears in their head to turn. Though said gears for higher level thinking were rusted and admittedly not truly wanting to work properly. Something Marik could likely pinpoint as Astrid made a frustrated frown while mulling over what they said.


This place isn't destroyed yet, that's true. And it's not burning down yet. Plus, he didn't fire out that burst of energy which means that's someone else. But I can smell hollow blood on him. It's weak, very weak but still there. What is he doing here then if he's NOT killing off all the hollows I brought? Astrid kept glaring at Marik as she let herself slowly think through his question. She wanted to yell more questions at him only to find him speaking again. Annoyed at this but she'd humor him speaking when she did "kill him" on accident. For now, anyway. She still didn't like "speaking" and "talking things out" but she wasn't going to get the answers she wanted otherwise. Once he was done, she'd start her newest rant, unconcerned though taking note of the sound of something being cut? She'd take note of that.


"Because you don't like "needless destruction"! You bitch and moan about that every time I say to just kill something! And YOU said the same thing when I collapsed that cave on us both. TWICE. Besides you have hollow blood on you Marik. And while that's a new change, that's not like you either. Which makes me think you're killing off the hollows I brought here. Who I'm training up so they can go to hell." Astrid walked up closer this time to him taking a moment to inspect him from a few feet away to make sure she kept note of any new changes. Scent, physique, wounds, scars, etc. Anything to keep her mental image of him up to date. After a moment she glared him back eye to eye, barring her teeth at him. "As for being "stronger" damn right I am. You aren't the only one who found themselves grabbing more power since their mask breaking. Though. . . it's not likely in the way you expect. It's surprisingly . . . smaller in scale. But it's let me be a step closer to Charlotte's level so fuck it. Just you wait, I'm coming for your power as well Marik."


Astrid would give Marik a deadly serious look. Uncanny for Astrid as she was completely still and putting her frustration aside to leave her promise out in the open. She'd find what made Marik special and take that upon herself when the chance arose. Now however, wasn't going to be that day so she stood up, towering over him and ground her teeth before she answered him. Muscles shifting ominously and unnaturally throughout her body but specifically in her arms, denoting her frustration. "Anyway, like I said, I'm here to feed worthless people to hollows. Then once they become Menos at least, I'm going to take them to Hell and train them there. Make em worthwhile Adjuchas. I've been looking for hollows that can keep up with me as I need a pack. The ones I've found however aren't capable of doing that and won't be capable if I don't do something about it. Especially when the worthwhile ones are . . . fucking I don't even know where. Sonadora up and . . . disappeared on me. . . Akando and his bug friend aren't here either. . Even Charlotte and Serenity left."[/color] Astrid against all odds sighed and frowned with something other than anger for a moment as her mind swirled in a different way. Still, that'd last only a moment before she found herself angry again and subsequently picked up a broken chunk of cement and threw it into several bystanders. Blood and viscera splattering across the road and others. The screams of others and their misery made her feel a little better.


She then turned back to Marik much calmer now that she'd at least killed someone on purpose. "So, what gives? If you're not here to fuck with my hollows, why is the "primera" coming to see my efforts? It's not like you cared when I left that shithole. Holing yourself up and trying to find your "humanity" again. Fucking pathetic. But creating a large pack is noteworthy and that fucking city of yours is just that. So why bother being here eh?" Her body was tense, and her stare was still aggressive even if she stopped glaring at him. Yet her head kept tilting somewhat towards the sounds coming from the park. She was curious to know just what exactly was happening, but Marik was before her. She wouldn't turn her back and give him the means to attack her freely. She knew better than to assume someone wouldn't stab her in the back. Even if they had a history of "helping" her.



Meanwhile . . .


In the business district a hidden hollow, from the previous group was terrorizing the streets. Body after body falling as it attacked all that moved in the streets. Covering its mandible with blood and slickened with viscera as it consumed the flesh of the freshly killed along with their souls. Pains had been wracking through its body as it continued to feast further on the humans present but it had ignored them. Pushing ever closer towards its true goal of becoming something more. Something greater. Something stronger. And that time was finally upon it. As it consumed yet another handful of souls and bodies it finally stopped moving. Its stomach wracked with pain and its exoskeleton slowly but surely began to crack and split apart. Blood of its own began to flow freely and it let out a scream of pain and agony as its entire body shattered.


From its backside emerged a new and terrifying being. One that slowly grew to be larger than its original form could contain. A set of four insectile wings sprouted from its backside, while the black shining body ripped itself from the previous exoskeleton. First with a new sharpened tail puncturing through its thorax and then slamming onto the ground below it. Next with two scythe-like hands cutting cleanly through the upper torso and allowing the back to slowly but surely rise out of it. The creature covered in many eyes and with a new size of 30 feet screamed out in hunger and fury as it finally found itself free from its previous form. The earth trembled near it and though the humans couldn't see it, they got a very immediate sense of dread as something comparable to natural disaster was readying itself for the next phase of destruction and feeding. The start of which would be the creation of a small orb of reiatsu in its mandibles. A shrieking sound rising in pitch as it began to glow brightly, going from dull blood red to a bright crimson. It'd then fire this blast out and subsequently turn its head as it released the cero upon Karakura. Buildings began to fall upon themselves as explosions tore through them and molten concrete was flung alongside large chunks of debris throughout the business district. While not as destructive as Col, its presence could not be ignored as it was definitely the strongest of the rampaging hollows present and was currently more interested in feeding on humans than considering the park and its entourage.

Things had gone from dark, to black, to nothing for Gael. Time ceased to have meaning and even the pain he felt previously faded away. He was well and truly floating through the abyss in his mind. A frankly, much more comfortable place than he'd been previously given here he wasn't being melted by hollow reiatsu nor having to deal with the various souls he'd erased. It really was a blessed change of pace though it sadly wouldn't be lasting as long as he'd liked. Try as he might to fall further into this abyss, he found himself being unable to and even going so far as to find himself slowly but surely growing in consciousness. He could feel himself beginning to be able to move around in the abyss while gaining more sense of weight. Eventually realizing he was being moved somewhere.

It wasn't his current mental form being moved but his actual physical self being taken somewhere. Why? Who even wou- Oh. . . It's them. . Those in white. . . I swear I remember. . . but I can't recall . . . They're someone I should know. . they must have saved me. . . Thank god I don't have to worry about dying anymore. I guess it won't be long until I wake up then. Let's just enjoy the slow process while I can. Over the course of several minutes, somewhere near fifteen he'd find his mental self slowly rising back to the "surface"of his mind. The feeling and weight of his body growing with him. The dull sense of pain and aches throughout his body becoming more present but also slowly fading. Eventually he could feel himself breathing, his heart beating, and slowly other sensory information present itself.

The deep chill in the air and throughout the wooden structure he was laying on. He heard sounds, voices, male and female. Some in hushed tones, others in cries of pain, and most just fearful. Yet a few had a more direct tone, almost like they were "on the job". This tone in particular kept nagging at him as something that he should have remembered why this was concerning. The unease in his stomach grew and he couldn't place his finger on just why that was. Another few moments and he could smell something in the air. Food, freshly cooked and some being cooked on the spot. It caused him to forget some anxiety and realize he was immensely hungry. When he finally felt like he could handle trying to move he slowly shifted his arms and fluttered open his eyes.

The light was blinding and remained that way for a few minutes. Though he had no one directly next to him, he could feel that he wasn't bleeding anymore. He had no pain or soreness and the clothing he was wearing was new. Durable, thick, not terribly insulating but it was tolerable. As the light started to dim and he could slowly make out more details he realized that there was a great deal of white around him. On him, near him, moving across the space, above and below him. Some of it was tinged in blue and was shining dully while others were bright but solid in color. He rubbed his eyes a few times and tried blinking away the haze that his eyes were seeing. Things gradually became more focused and he saw what looked like a church made of crystals? Definitely strange as he didn't remember it being December. If he was correct, it was June, so why was there a church made of crystal? As his gaze swept through the church it found a banner and slowly but surely focused more readily on it as it came into view. And once it did, he saw a star shaped cross inside a circle. His heart stopped as did his breathing.

His brain finally kicked into gear and he remembered who had been near him when he'd gone unconcious. Vandenriechs. And this church wasn't crystal, it was ice. That was why it was cold as could be. When he looked down and saw what he was wearing he realized it was a pure white pair of greaves and jacket. The clothing looked distinctly military inspired though its only "vandenriech appearance" was on the buttons which held their symbol. He swallowed a thick wad of saliva as he tried to come to terms with the world around him and what exactly to do. I have to get out of here! These guys are freaks! Ren told me about them, and what their deity does, and what they intend to do! And sure enough with another glance he saw the man in question, now significantly more red and coating the floor and walls with red. He also saw the various faces of terrified humans who were wondering why there was so much partially frozen blood around.

This was all terrifying and deeply concerning for many reasons however, that had nothing on what he sensed. Though slow to come back his spiritual sensory abilities kicked on as he stood up from the pew and almost immediately did he lose the ability to stand. Eyes wide, mouth agape, and fear paralyzing him until his instinct to flee took over. He jumped back to his legs and raced out the church mid sermon from Caeser and ran to the double doors that opened to the outside. When he got there he fell back to his knees after walking a short distance from the doors and down the steps. Amidst everything else going on all he saw was blue. Raging, anrgy, and chaotic blue. It looked vaguely lightning-esque and calling it a blast was like calling a nuclear bomb an explosive. It couldn't be accurate beyond the most basic and vague sense of the word. This was death. Pure and simple. Death that didn't have a name and didn't ask for your own.

Beyond the intensity of its raging appearance it held an intense and overwhelming energy unlike anything Gael had ever dreamed of sensing. And because of that, he found himself immediately proceed to heave up whatever he could from his stomach. Mainly just clear fluid that didn't do anything but immediately freeze upon touching the frozen stairs Gael was sitting on. To make matters worse Gael saw black start to encroach on his vision again, but slowly and in an uncertain manner. Like it was debating if he'd get the luxury of passing out before being vaporized. Thankfully he wouldn't have to worry about that as he sensed prior to seeing something release a significant degree of power. Not as intense but similar enough.

Then a person appeared, followed by another person? It felt like a person as it held life energy as far as Gael could sense. Yet it wasn't the same as the reiatsu that he usually sensed from others. It was similar but distinct, uniquely not reiatsu but close to it. Such energy grew and grew until it became nothing short of a monster in and of itself. A bright, glowing monster with what looked like a sword? Gael's mind short-circuited as he couldn't begin to grasp what he was sensing and seeing. However he did see what happened. Said being did what he considered unthinkable. It cut the raging blast in two and threw the blast elsewhere. Gael's jaw dropped and he whispered quietly himself in almost a reverence and a not insignificant amount of fear. "W-we're saved. . . saved by what though? How is this even possible?! Who care tha-" His sentence was cut short from what he sensed next.

The attack, though intense had been diverted. However it wasn't complete and it had implications Gael's mind couldn't realize until it was too late. The blast, now two and its power reduced was still intense and beyond a death sentence. But instead of targeting the park, it now targeted Karakura University and the Market District. Upon the blasts reaching the first building in their path, everything simply vanished. The bodies, souls, matter, everything was gone in a blast of pure devestation and potent spiritual energy. Leaving only large craters in its wake as a reminder of just what tragedy was enacted upon them by not just whoever brought forth the calamity but by the being who'd defended the church. While the entirety of the university was simply wiped off the face of the earth, the majority of the Market District was standing but it would be anything but worse for wear at best. And that was assuming it was far away from the blast. The shockwaves and collateral damage from buildings collapsing, damaged utility systems, the sudden winter snowstorm, and random streaks of lightning like energy streaks from the blast there was no part nearby area that got away unscathed, let alone without severe damage.

This was all made worse by Gael being able to sense a distinct change in the spiritual energy of the affected areas. Orginally just the same background of noteworthy spiritual energy. Then cranked up and becoming so intense it felt like Gael's own soul was fracked with pain trying to correct sense and get an idea of the scale of power behind the blast, only to follow up with a severe void of energy. Latent spiritual residue from the blast and whatever energy Karakura had as a landmass. But all the spiritual energy of those living there were just gone. Wiped away like a stain on a counter top. As if they were never there in the first place. Gael doubled over and continued to vomit out clear stomach acid followed by intense dry heaving as his mind and his body were still attempting to cope with everything he'd just seen, sensed, and the immediate/future impacts to the world around him. He eventually just fell on his side on the stairs and let tears flow freely as his emotions overwhelmed him from just how much life was lost already and how much more was going to be lost if this continued.

1) A flicker of a smile, almost cruel in its amusement, danced on Maria's lips. This wasn't the first time Astrid had crossed a line so monumental it should have ended in decapitation. The thought of ever considering this woman, this grotesque mockery of humanity, a friend sent a sardonic chuckle bubbling up her throat. But silence was the most potent weapon now. Maria remained an unreadable statue, the only response the chilling amusement in her eyes as Astrid babbled on. What more could she do but listen to the self-destructive woman before her?

2) Maria tilted her head to the side, the smile on her face unwavering. Even as Celes unleashed her Bankai, a devastating surge of energy that cleaved the lightning bolt in two and left a trail of destruction in its wake, Maria found only amusement. It didn't matter whose side she was on, the landscape of this realm was always littered with the wreckage of battles fought by overgrown children. Was she the only one who saw the value in this world, the only one who wasn't consumed by a bloodthirsty rage? A low, humorless chuckle escaped her lips, a stark contrast to the chaos around her. A light beeping would echo in her ear , a signal from the workers that they where done and on the tail end of leaving. 'guess they felt that'

3.) Disappointment tinged Maria's voice, a stark contrast to the forced pleasantness of her smile. "There was a time," she began, her voice low and dangerous. "A time when I considered you a friend. But seeing you now, listening to your words..." The smile faltered, a flicker of genuine sadness replacing the cold amusement. "I realize it was a foolish hope, a waste of  my energy to think we could be friends or you could be more than you where when i first met you" She turned on her heel, her movement sharp and decisive. "As for my presence here," she called back, her voice regaining its icy composure, "let's just say it has nothing to do with your ragtag pack of strays lying dead at the hands of these reckless fools"

4.) Exhaustion gnawed at Maria. She was weary of endless battles, weary of watching these mindless Hollows flail about 'may the Vanden Reich kill everyone here so i can have one less headache' . Stepping away from the chaos, she tilted her head back, her gaze meeting the vast expanse of the sky. With a sigh that spoke volumes of her disillusionment, she muttered, "Go ahead, play with your little toys. I know how much you enjoy being the schoolyard bully you and rizer had that in common" A dark chuckle, laced with a hint of underlying madness the cracks slowly forming in the bastion of her mind, escaped her lips as she vanished in a blur of impossible speed. For a fleeting moment, a terrifying presence filled the air, a stark reminder of the unseen power that had been lurking amongst them. As maria could no longer hide herself , when useing a technique.

5.) In the wake of Maria's departure, two smoking scorch marks marred the ground, the stench of burned asphalt hanging heavy in the air. This was the calling card of her hurried escape, a testament to her unearthly speed. She had slipped through the dimensional barrier, leaving the world of the living behind in a heartbeat. The mission was complete, and Astrid's tyrades where no longer any of her concerns.

[Hanako Nozawa]

The situation only grew worse by the moment, and Hanako was in no way prepared for any of it. Far off into the city, beyond where her powers of perception could reliably locate, a newcomer was entering the fray. Others began to argue and fight. A voice failed to reach her as it carried on the wind, though the wave of oppressive reiatsu certainly had not gone unnoticed. The would-be Shinigami paused in mid-step, cocked her head, and only had the time to wonder for a moment what that strange feeling actually was. By the time the spell had torn through the sky and Celes had leapt forward to attempt to defend Karakura Town from its destruction, Ume had tackled her to the ground and shielded her. Hanako's eyes widened, and her breath caught in her throat as the chaos unfolded overhead.

"What the fu-" Her question was cut short by Ume's abrupt rise from the ground and descent into panic. Hanako followed shortly thereafter, wincing at the ache in her hands as she pushed against the snowy ground to lift herself up again. She tried to follow Ume's words, reacting near silently the whole while to the insinuation that a [student couldn't take care of herself. Her eyes followed the devices Ume procured from her clothes, before she turned her attention away to a nearby source of dread reiatsu. "Uh- Ume-se-" Hanako placed her hand on the hilt of her zanpakutō, the other holding it steady by the sheathe, but before she could draw and go on the offensive against the approaching Hollow, she felt a sickening squelch against her back.

Then things got progressively worse. Before she could turn, before she could question what had happened, Hanako's vision lurched within her own mind. She staggered in place, and one hand rose to the side of her head. Then the visions moved, and her other hand dove to her mouth to keep her from vomiting. She closed her eyes, shut as tightly as was physically possible, but there was no stopping whatever it was that was happening to her.

"U-Ume... What is... Oh god!" She fell to her knees and wretched, spitting up a small portion of her earlier meal into the snow in front of her. Her thoughts tried to race for a solution, but found only the visions of contradictory information. She... She could only focus on the distinct feeling of reiatsu emanating from the center of her back; an energy different from her own. One hand planted itself in the snow as she wretched and heaved, and the other twisted and craned in futile effort to reach the foreign object. Maybe, if she could just remove it, then she would be okay...

Hanako breathed, and steeled herself. She focused on one thing and one thing only, the puddle of sick in front of her. It helped, a little, to keep the visions at bay, but it could not free her of whatever it was that was happening. Her free hand worked tirelessly, clutching and tugging at cloth until she felt the biting cold on skin now left bare. In the seconds it took, she wretched and spat up again, before finally freeing herself of the confines of her shitagi and tossing the soiled garment aside. Along with the cloth, her visions dissipated, and normalcy slowly began to return. She breathed deeply, inhaling sharply before coughing up the last of what had become caught in her throat. The cold felt only more pressing and painful now, as exposed to it as she was without any sort of protection.

She groaned as her head spun in the aftermath of the mysterious event, with only the hope that Ume would keep her safe until she was able to stand and draw her weapon again.

[Astrid Vess]

Astrid waited for Maria, slowly finding her frustrations rising again. Mainly because she had other things she needed to focus on. Things that were currently becoming more problematic even by her standards. The hollows she'd forced to appear here couldn't survive blasts the likes of which she'd seen earlier. Still if she could get one then maybe . . . There was the Menos who'd just formed . . . so maybe? She'd have to wrangle it back with her which wasn't the most difficult thing, but could she do it before she someone or something killed it? That awaited to be seen. Her mind stopped dead in its tracks when she heard Marik talk but the way she talked most notably caught Astrid off guard. She wouldn't say Marik was known for having a "kind" manner of speaking to her but there was a level of lacking emotional impact to it usually. This however was different, while Astrid couldn't personally note the emotion in question the tone alone spoke volumes that something changed.

Her expression though still a resting bitch face could easily be seen as almost edging on concern for something she couldn't speak to. Her hair on the back of her neck were rising just a bit, in anticipation, fear, or something else entirely remained to be seen. Something about her first bit of commentary however stuck with Astrid. "Friends". Astrid's head tilted as her face scrunched up in confusion. Her eyes looked towards Maria's and then the remainder of her body to try and find the deceit. Mainly because there was so much emphasis put into the word that Astrid, without knowing what specifically a "friend" was could assume it was something important. But what was it? And when was this a thing? Her confusion slowly turned to anger however as Maria began to insult her speaking about her inability to change. Then proceeded to insult the hollows she'd brought that had died. Which as less frustrating to her because of the truth and more because it felt like a jab on her ability to get hollows to do what she wanted.

Astrid started to growl even when the incredibly large explosions made themselves present as Maria was treading on dangerous ground as far as Astrid was concerned. She had changed, in the ways that mattered. She was so strong that others couldn't control her again. She had achieved her goal of becoming a hollow, though this specific form wasn't in the original plans. She had power that was hers to wield, and it didn't rely on others. She wasn't the same anymore and yet Maria didn't see any of it. Or perhaps she was looking for something more? Something different than her combat abilities which had Astrid start to have her body wriggling in anger while she swore, her blood was boiling. However, was caused a spike in her blood pressure and caused her to see black was being compared to that waste of space. The absolutely worthless and infuriating pet of Souken. One of two beings she couldn't kill but had managed to consume his pathetic weapon. Rizer. Before Astrid could even react, the other was gone. A flash of light, the smell of burnt concrete, and a dull sense of spiritual something.

Astrid let out a roar as she let her anger take her over. Regardless of how much her body and soul seemed to fight against the anger. "YOU ABSOLUTE CUNT! I'LL RIP OUT YOUR ORGANS ONE AT A TIME AND DRINK THE MARROW FROM YOUR BONES! I'M GOING TO KILL YOU MARIK!! THAT FUCKING SHINIGAMI CAN'T SAVE YOU FROM ME!!" Any plans Astrid previously had could get fucked as far as she was concerned. She was going to rip and tear her way through the humans here calm herself down by painting herself and the city in blood. She was . . . suddenly feeling something within herself. Something significant in power. And then she heard a roar emanating around her but with nothing around. It was from within her soul and when she blinked, she saw Samson. His 9 ft tall stature was present when she hadn't released which was beyond strange, he shouldn't be able to force himself to be present. Though a quick swat through his form revealed he wasn't actually present.

As Samson towered over her and continued "manifesting" she got an almost immediate sense of anger. Anger comparable in level to her own. And it was directed at her. His skull literally was breaking apart and reforming to express just how immensely pissed he was as his form continued to flex and wriggle not unlike Astrid's own form. His reiatsu, really hers but with a more hellish tint to it, continued to bear down on her even while she was using hers as unimpressively as possible to force his back. Samson seemed to either be unconcerned about this or not care. He instead opted to roar directly at Astrid, which reverberated throughout her entire being as it just kept going on. The worst part was that given the two had such a potent connection with one another Astrid could actually get more than just intent through the roar, she could understand the simple ideas he was attempting to forcibly make her "hear".

In a rough manner of speaking, this was a one-way verbal beat down from Samson to Astrid. And Samson's entire "idea" was berating Astrid for being so caustic as to prevent Marik from even deciding to humor her again. Let alone ever. Astrid didn't even get a chance to respond before Samson more or less forcibly linking her two functioning brain cells together to connect the dots between Friend and Pack Mate. To have her realize just what the fuck she'd done and how colossal a fuck up this was on Astrid's end. Once he was done literally yelling at her, the spiritual chaos didn't end, instead it got worse as Astrid began to feel the souls inside her starting to get riled up. Her eyes widened as she realized Samson had instigated an internal spiritual dispute and was trying to drag her back into her inner world for some reason. "Samson WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!" She found herself slowly but surely realizing the control she had was being lost in her inner world. Meanwhile Samson began to fade away with a final growl giving her a very eminent promise. More or less to the tune of "I'm going to fix this and you're not going to like it." To which Astrid already didn't like it because it was akin to a betrayal by one of her closest spirits, a literal fragment of herself if she were honest.

When she realized he was gone she could finally pull herself together. The chaos Samson had sown was going to get worse the longer she ignored it. She had to go somewhere "safer" to forcibly reassert her dominance over the souls within. Though she could tell Samson and other spirits were fighting each other, so she had a bit of time. But this wasn't going to end well for her and had implications Astrid could only guess at if this continued. First fucking Marik and now Samson. Fucking god damnit! ALL OF YA'LL ARE FUCKING UP WHAT I NEED TO DO! GRRRRRAAAAAHHHH!! I'm going to grab that fucking Menos if it's the last thing I do. Once I get my body under control first. That's going to take some time. FUCK! Astrid slowly walked to an alleyway as she focused her efforts on regaining complete control of her limbs. Willing and slamming them into the buildings she was between to try and force away the growing buzz within them.

As the acrid, ozone smell dissipated, Ume was staring at nothing but char marks in front of her. She had managed to clear out the funneling Hollows, even as she panted with her arm outstretched. She waited a moment to see if anything else was coming, but whatever Hollows had come down towards her had been killed or went chasing after much more delicious prey. As Ume pressed her hand against her chest, she could see the mark she had put on Hanako.

Unlike Celes, who had no issue with it, it seemed dthat Hanako wasn't quite powerful to ignore even a small bit of Nijuume's aboility. Ume sighed as the robe was cast off, leaving Hanako bare in the cold. Celes was already off dealing with the bigger threats, so Ume bent her knees and used her agility to parkour from one wall to the other until she was back on the roof. As she landed next to Hanako, she whisked off her lab coat and slung it over the student, leaving her in just her shihakushou. Suddenly, she shivered from the cold and looked out over the battlefield. 

"I didn't think anyone was that  weak." She said. "Just don't.. touch anything in it, ok? Or, move or ... I don't know. Don't do anything. I need that back too." Ume said. She then looked over Hanako. "We're not safe here, though. And the mission certainly isn't going to get done while we're here. So, just... don't barf on me." Ume leaned in and grabbed Hanako's arm. She ducked under and then back up so that Hanako could ride on her piggy back. "My hair shoooould help keep you warm." Ume added and then closed her eyes. She could leave the robe where it was for now. When Ume stepped up to the edge of the building with Hanako in tow, that's when she heard the scream. 

That's when she saw the beast rising to the height of the building. 

Ume pursed her lips. Thank goodness for the cold, which she could use for an excuse as she trembled in real fear. "N-New p-plan..." Ume said as she looked at the towering Menos Grande. "On the way to the Vandenreich church, we're going to be doing a drive by on that thing." 

Ume pathed out a trajectory towards the beast that would take the least amount of time. If she hopped off a building, sprung off a tree, and then launched off a light post, she could fling herself in a way that shot herself past the creature. She only had to account for Hanako. "Let's hope you know some kido. You might not get a shot at it without it." Ume suggested. She then bent her knees, closed her eyes and threw herself forward, hitting a Kidou. 

She flew through the air, hitting a flexing tree branch and using kidou to fling her and Hanako even closer. Then she hit a lampost and her momentum carried her right towards the creature. "Close your eyes!" Ume shouted as they soared towards the creature. Ume plucked three eyeballs off of Nijuume and whipped one at the thing  as hard as she could. Only a few feet before it reached the beat, the eyeball would explode, creating a huge flash of light like a flashbang grenade, with a small but of concussive force with it. 

Ume would then throw two eyeballs downward at the creature. One at its foot, aiming for one ankel and the other straight down towards the ground. Hopefully she was quick enough to sail past the creature, on her way towards the huge, Vandenreich church. However, she underestimated what carrying another person like that might do to her staminat. As she soared, she realized that she misjudged the landing. The tree that she was supposed to spring off of wasn't quite close enough. 

"You have made an error in your calculations. I foresee an involuntary collision imminent." Ume could hear Nijuume in her head. She winced and then braced herself. 

"Crap." 

Ume did her best to aim towards a row of bushes and crashed into them, practically exploding the bush as she did herself to both protect Hanako from the fall and to keep from flinging her forward after the crash. The resulting wipeout had her skidding and tumbling until she couldn't help but shrug Hanako off when she went crashing tot he ground, tumbled and landed on her back in a snow angel position, staring up and panting as harder than she had in some time. She could hear Nijuume beginning to speak, even before she could collect her thoughts. She quickly opened her mouth to cut the spirit off, but only heaving breath's came out at first. 

"Hah... hah... that's right... hah hah... I didn't  account for all  of her weight." Ume said, letting her head, loll in the direction of Hanako. "But you don't have to say it..." Ume muttered back to Nijuuume. She then glanced back at Hanako. "Great. we're gonna die cause of your fat butt." Ume whined.

[100 Reiatsu] Blink/Wink - Because Ume is a perma-release, her Reiatsu is uncontrollable. It is constantly spilling out of her, but if she concentrates it, she can focus it. By paying [100] Reiatsu per mark or eyeball, she can "close" the eye or mark violently exploding it like a grenade. The explosion is like a flash bang, sending out a disorienting and damaging wave. Those who are in close proximity (5ft. Radius), who can't look away, have a Distraction Stage added to them for one post. Those who are in range (15ft Radius) also suffer damage roughly equal to an exploding grenade. The damage, and length of posts the Distraction Stage is added increases for each simultaneous Mark or Eyeball consumed that a target is affected by. The mark or eyeball "Blinks" and then glows white before it "explodes." For, example, if two Marks/Eyeballs explode simultaneously in range, then rather than add a second distraction stage, the added distraction stage would last two posts, but the damage would be like being caught in the radii of two exploding grenades.

Alternatively, if Ume has "Marked" something, she can focus to expend reiatsu less violently. Instead of exploding a mark, Ume can expend [50 reiatsu] to force the object that has been marked to move towards another mark. If the marked object is moving then it will continue to move at the same speed, just changing its trajectory. If it is not moving, then it will be shoved or pushed towards the other mark that at it's speed (Or Ume's, whichever is faster). If the mark collides with something, then it is consumed (as if Blink was activated). If it touches another mark, then both marks will explode as if Blink was used, Consuming [200 Reiatsu] but having the effect as if 3 marks were consumed instead of the two.

When Wink is used, Ume can spend [50 Reiatsu] to not have the colliding marks consumed.

[Raphael Laurent]

Raphael stood there, everything being a goddamn mess, in the midst of hell on Earth, already. First there was teh NEET shinigami, bitching and whining about them, then there was the enormous outbreak of hollows attacking. He looked around. And then there was bloody Fulton giving him some cough syrup... Raphael sighed. That was when he felt the energy gathering, heard the buildup, then the energy released. For a moment, he felt that need to get away, and he was about to do so, when there was a sudden release in reiatsu.

Then, suddenly, the beam had been cleaved in two...and then flew off and struck two separate parts of the city, an enormous explosion and tons more dead. Raphael winced, as the energy crashed into a huge, earth-shattering kaboom...in two different places. Loss of life was one of the things that he couldn't really stand, one of the worst things to him, especially when preventable.

"Damn shinigami... They can't just leave well enough alone... It's not much preventing loss of life, is it?" He muttered, as he staggered, for a moment. "First the fucking cough syrup and now all these people dead..."

He felt it, another boom, another explosion, another opening of the void... and more monsters and another incredibly powerful monster all came out. There was... SO much shit to unpack in what was going on and Raphael legitimately didn't have the time to deal with it all. He got to his feet, having fallen over, when he'd gone to dash away, when the blast had been deflected. He'd have to get to work even faster now, and he didn't like the thought of that.

"Alright... fine... God forbid that there's any kind of time for me to really sit and rest, huh?"

Perhaps you should...

Yeah, yeah. I know.

Raphael stepped forward and took a deep breath, the process of separating out molecules, then suddenly the air in his throat cooled immediately. Then he exhaled ten frozen orbs out of his mouth, and held a hand out in front of him, before suddenly they fired off in different directions. Each one targeting a hollow, the crash of freezing orbs hitting their mark, the explosion of ice and snow creezing each one of the hollows.

"I'm tired of these fucking hollows... Seriously..."

By the time her head had stopped spinning, Ume had returned to help undo whatever it was that had happened to her. Hanako felt the relative warmth of the woman's long coat be draped around her, then was lifted so that they could continue on their way towards the mysterious church that had appeared in the park. She wanted to argue and to resist, but between the cold and the strain of the day so far, she had to admit, the little bit of care and comfort did feel very nice. So, one at a time while Ume carried her through the air of Karakura Town's business district, she slipped each arm into a sleeve of the coat and held on to the woman's shoulders. "Thank y-" She had begun, however...

A new wave of reiatsu pulled at her senses, and Hanako's eyes widened as far as they could go in their shock. Larger than any Hollow she had fought so far, this new monster towered over the city, insect-like in its appearance but no less terrifying as it gave out a most horrifying roar filled with hunger and fury. Hanako's grip tightened around Ume, though not intentionally, and a soft whine escaped her throat only to be drowned out by the chaos of everything around them. She tried- Oh, did she try to argue with Ume as she dove through the air closer to the monster, but before she could even hope to disentangle herself, they were upon the beast. She flinched, closed her eyes as warned, and felt the pair of them go hurtling through the air again.

Hanako squeaked, loud and shrill, as they crashed into a thick bush and came to a sudden and impromptu halt. She had felt Ume shrug, then she herself was thrown free to come to a tumbling stop in the slowly accumulating snow. A soft groan escaped her, and Hanako pushed herself to her feet with one hand on her again spinning head. She opened her mouth to speak, to ask if Ume had been alright, only to be cut off by confirmation that... Yes. Yes, she was alright. For now.

"Yeah? Well, noone asked you to-" She had begun to argue, pouting in defiance as moisture gathered at the corners of her eyes before promptly freezing to her skin. However, her words were cut off by another roar, and Hanako's attention veered towards the source of the noise. The Menos reeled, possibly affected by whatever Ume had done to it. Hanako swallowed the lump from her throat, her hands shaking and trembling uncontrollably as she looked up at the gargantuan creature. She... She had to fight that thing, right? It was... Yes, she had to fight it, or else it would continue to kill more people.

Her lip joined her hand in its trembling. She looked back to Ume, fear and terror now replacing what anger and hurt she'd felt at the insult. Her thoughts pulled in every which way at once. This was all too much. "U-Ume..." She sniffled, trying to fight down her panic and cacophony of emotions all at once. "I w-want to go-" She was cut off by another roar, this one smaller but no less threatening than the one belonging to the Menos towering overhead. Her eyes widened, and without thinking, Hanako threw out her left hand while her right crossed in front of her body!

An avian Hollow flew down, swooping towards Ume with its four limbs bearing ghastly talons each outstretched! "Bakudō #9: Horin!" From Hanako's hand, an orange rope of Kidō flew, entangling the Hollow and binding its wings to its back! She yanked with her arm, pulling it off course so that it crashed instead into the frozen ground, sliding ever closer to where she stood with her free hand obscured by the borrowed long coat! Then, the sound of steel scraping against steel rang out, and Hanako drew her zanpakutō from its sheathe. With a swift swing, she brought the inverted edge of her sword to the monster's throat and sliced open its exposed flesh without pause.

As the Hollow lay dying, her breaths shook like the trembling of the weapon in her hand. The orange rope disappeared as her spell reached the end of its short life, and Hanako looked back to Ume with red, puffy eyes. Her expressions changed rapidly, unable to decide whether she was frightened of all that was happening, shaken by the experience, or just happy that Ume was still alive and here with her. What would she do if she were left on her own in this situation, exactly? She didn't know...

"R-Run!" Whatever the answer to that thought would've been, it didn't change what was happening here and now. So, shouting against the wind and the roar of many Hollow, Hanako called to Ume before spinning on the ball of her foot and sprinting in the direction towards the church -and most importantly, away from the Menos!

Restoring his wings? That metaphor would have been fine an hour or two before, but it lost something now that he had literal wings that embodied the very reason he'd been rejected from the vandenreich to begin with. Like his halo, they were a manifestation of excess reiryoku that Akasawa's soul simply didn't have space to contain and the flood simply didn't need. Blood Drive consumed so little energy that the excess had been left to congeal together with reishi and condense into the shape of a release the failure never even had. Well, the wings still had some tiny sliver of functionality; if it weren't for his quincy origins, his growth would have stopped entirely a long time ago, and even now the flood hadn't grown or changed and it had never begun to have its intended effect, but it became notably less lethargic in failing to activate its property now that it had more abundant resources to work with. The waters that had risen to drown him remained stagnant even as they did.

By the end of the service, it had become clear that the room was slightly smaller than before, as the flood had been continuously adding fake blood to the walls, which froze layer after layer, thickening them unless chiseled from the surface. Akasawa had sat in the back for the entire duration of mass, and his liquid wings covered the rest of the pew where he'd spent the entire sermon in quiet contemplation of Caesar's words. Their understanding of der Kaiser seemed to be deeply different, and no amount of rationalizing on his part had allowed the failure to square the circle of his own view of the Emperor, who rejected all quincy as soon as they failed to live up to their exacting standards, with the Cardinal's view of a more accepting god. Then again, even hollows and shinigami were offered the chance to convert; he was well aware of how far the offer of conversion spread because he had so often extended it to those he felt had potential.

It was only after the mass that Ren Akasawa had approached Ceasar once more, head bowed and wings folded into a makeshift cloak that continually dripped away and regenerated. While his actual control of the reishi mass was still rather poor, the scarlet mercury responded to his mental state in a way that blood drive never had, or rather, these new additions to his soul were his in a way which the flood was not. "I had thought myself unwelcome, unworthy to wield a bow. To hear you speak of my restoration as if it were in reach, does that mean that after all this time, the hollows I sacrificed in Der Kaiser's name upon his altar have drawn the approving gaze of his majesty, or was it that my faith strengthened as this exile streched on?" It was obvious that the failure wasn't used to such a formal speech pattern, and equally clear he believed it necessary to address the Cardinal, as when it slipped somewhat, it never seemed an intentional act on his part. But beyond the formality was the assumption that he must have done something to earn this treatment, because otherwise he wouldn't be deserving of it.

Physically and spiritually broken and imperfectly patched together, he stood before the sternritter clad in an alloy of hope and shame, as though he'd spent so long desiring redemption that he wasn't able to stomach the thought of actually getting it. A goal not meant to be reached because to actually attain it opened the question of what there would be left to strive towards. It was true that the upper ranks would be truly unattainable upon returning; as a former quincy, he would never see anything above captain, but that also made it useless as a replacement for his current lonely crusade. He wanted a dim hope to pine after, not an impossible dream he knew for a fact to be so. That need for a replacement dream could wait; for now, his motive was to return to Silbern, after which it would be to complete whatever orders he was given.

[Astrid Vess]

Astrid:

Time felt like it was moving sluggishly for Astrid. The more she tried to focus on it, the more it seemed like she wasn't doing anything at all. Her movements felt slow and unresponsive, her thoughts were distracted by the constant echoing roar of souls she'd long since consumed and beaten down. And here she was trying to scrap some kind of paltry victory out of what she was slowly realizing was a colossal failure of an idea. In total? It felt like everything around her was fighting against her efforts tooth and nail. Even her own senses swore the Menos she was slowly making her way towards was in at least two other places in addition to being right in front of her. Scent alone was leading the way, but she wasn't going to sugar coat it. Samson was sincerely fucking around with her through his instigation of an internal war amongst the spirits. A sort of controlled spiritual rebellion. "Just you fuckers wait. . . When I get the time to go inside, you're all going to WISH Hell was the worst of your worries."


Unfortunately, Astrid was leaving a trail of bodies and buildings in her wake. Her arms slamming into walls of nearby buildings while her feet slammed into the concrete beneath her. Occasionally she could hear the cracks and groans of the nearby building begin its dangerous descent into collapsing. Her grunts were the only response she gave despite the pleas for help or mercy from those who couldn't even see where she was. Still for all her effort thus far into forcing her body to remain firmly under her grasp it was gradually losing any sense of tingling and "phantom touch". Her core and head still had a buzzing and lightly disorienting tremor going through them, but her arms and legs were more or less back under her control. She was not however, about to start flailing her head into the brick, concrete, or wooden buildings around her. Not yet at least.

As she slowly got closer to the business district she'd hear the sounds of a fight. A fight between clearly spiritual beings given that humans couldn't have any clue as to what was going on at this rate. Hell, there was even a flash of light from near the Menos she could occasionally see. She growled to herself as she picked up her pace from a walk to a light job. Trying to be careful to let her head and its sensory disorientation get back under control. She'd need another minute or so to force that to return to normal so for the time being all they could do was continue to get closer and hope that the menos survived long enough for her to grab it and bag it. I still need to fight the damn thing. Knock it out flat on its ass to make sure it can't retaliate. A fist to the skull should do it. If it doesn't outright die in the first place. Fucking . . . weaklings. All of these fucking hollows. Grrr. . . . I need to find stronger ones later.



Menos Hollow:

The hollow's cero continued on as it met no immediate resistance, destroying a couple blocks as the cero tore through steel and concrete like paper. Once the damage was done it let loose another roar shaking the air around it. Then its stomach roared in a deep fleshy squelching and rumbling sound. It looked around itself in a meager attempt to find what the next best food source was as its new limbs were more intent for harm than simply collecting prey. It'd soon realize this would be a significantly harder to achieve goal that it'd seem. Namely due to Ume as the hulking beast barely began to ping a naturally stronger spiritual force near it only to see something being flung towards it. A few things at that. But one in particular was coming towards its face catching its interest as it was a flying eyeball of sorts. Its head tilted before it was engulfed in a bright white light not just from the blast before it but two more.

Between the three blasts the thing could feel itself be flung back a few feet and thrown on its thorax. In no small part due to the loss of control of its body as its eyes were searing with white that was unabating for the time being. So intense the white it saw that even with its eyes closed it continued to see white though it was slowly beginning to fade away. Meanwhile its sense of pain had slowly come back to its as it could feel a few cracks on its mask, along with blood flowing from its ankle and a few cracks in its exoskeleton around that leg. To those watching what the beast was doing post the blast it was more or less sitting on its "butt" akin to a toddler who'd been pushed down. The backside of its bladed hands rubbing over each of its many eyes all in an attempt to stop the blinding light. It didn't help that somehow it seemed like it had more eyes than it recalled before which was baffling, but the beast couldn't hope to begin to comprehend that.

Regardless for the moment the beast was down though it wasn't out for the count. But it was clearly hindered pretty severely from Ume's attack. Though it wasn't without causing more harm as the blast had pushed it into a nearby multi story building where it was still resting in. Glass windows were shattered, metal torn asunder, and concrete thrown all over the place. Little splotches of blood were here and there, fresh and bright red in stark contrast to the hollows dark murky red blood coming out of its leg. Ume in the process of debilitating the hollow had killed other humans in the process alongside several others that were now injured. She and Hanako were safe for now, though from the bright lights and spiritual burst the two would hear nearby hollows roar into the sky as they began to approach the area.

Menos hollow has been paralyzed for the post. Next post will see it partially debilitated due to continued sensory input from Ume but will return to being combat capable.

It is injured however at its ankle and its hollow mask. Both have cracks and the ankle is weakened and bleeding. It is currently partially lodged into a nearby building. It remains in the business district.

A small pack of hollows are making their way towards the business district to find the source of the bright light and burst of reiatsu.




Astrid is making her way to the business district slowly. Her senses are still coming back under her control though her spiritual energy is fluctuating intensely. In the next post she will arrive at the Menos hollow and her sensory faculties will be returned to her. She is still sealed as of the moment despite the spiritual fluctuations.

[Ume Oboro]

Ume watched. She watched everything she could laying on the ground panting as she held onto her zanpakutou. She watched Hanako valiantly slay the Hollow that would likely have pecked her eyes out. She watched her flashbang grenades hurt the giant menos. The thing had so many eyes that Ume almost laughed at the thought that it could do anything against her attacks. there was the crash of the building and the horrifying cacophony of twisting steel, breaking bodies and the broken humanity. It was her  fault, or, at least, others might have thought like that. Ume didn't let the sins of morality weigh upon her. 

She had killed so many people with the push of a button. She was a protector of the cycle of life, despite her own desires to break  it. She pursed her lips as Hanako stumbled away and demanded she run. The research... if she could get some information about Silbern and the Vandenreich from the inside... There was so much  chaos right now too, but... there was also, most likely, an army guarding the church. The menos was singular... and vulnerable. Maybe defeating it, could help clean out some of the trash and make it disperse. Ume glanced at her zanpakutou. "Claculations and percentages?" She asked. 

"To what decimal point should I extend the percentages out?" Nijuume responded in Ume's head. 

"Are they good or bad?" Ume asked, then frowned. "Never mind. I don't want to know." 

With a heavy sigh, Ume lifted her legs in the air and kicked, performing a perfect kip up into a backwards shunpo, where she appeared in front of Hanako with her hand out, pushing her palm against Hanako's chest to stop her movements. "We're going to kill that Menos." She declared with no hint of sarcasm or jocularity. Ume closed her eyes. "Don't worry, you don't  need to do much, if anything." Ume said and used her free hand to push her hand into the lab coat Hanako was wearing. She pulled out some gauze and plucked out an eyeball from her zanpakutou. She wrapped it in gauze and then offered it to the purplette. "Hold this." She said. "And then hold out your sword." 

Ume glanced at where the Menos was reeling. She then turned and looked at Hanako and made eye contact so that the student would pay attention to every word Ume said. "Here's what I need you to do. It's mask is cracked and it's still dazed. I'm going to get you into a position where I can launch you at it. Then, I'm going to throw an eyeball at you. The explosion should jettison you to the thing's face fast enough for you to just hold out your zanpakutou and plunge it into the crack of the mask. Pry it open enough to stuff this eyeball into the crack, then it can watch its own head explode." 

Ume didn't wait for an answer. She stuffedthe gauze wrapped eyeballinto Hanako's palm and grabbed Hanako's wrist. Ume then bent her knees. She shunpo'd into a jump, hit a lamppost and used it to springboard off of it. It would require a bit of doing on Hanako's part, because Ume was, by no means, the strongest, or strong at all, but she was using speed and momentum to help heave Hanako along. She did just that, as she slung Hanako like she was doing the do-si-do. When Hanako slipped past her, Ume flipped and used her feet to mule kick Hanako in back to propel her further. As she did, she plucked an eyeball from her sword and lobbed it. With a snap of her finger, she closed her eyes and let it explode. She felt the white flash of light. She just had to hope her calculations were correct and that Hanako could do as Ume had instructed. 

The explosion she had created with her eyeball sent her rocketing back into the ground, into another pile of bushes, which did even less than last one as the ground cratered underneath her in an explosion of dirt and foliage. Ume laid there groaning in pain. She needed to stop doing this or next time she wasn't going to get up. At this point she was practically free food for anything else that might come by, but as long as she held onto her zanpakutou, she could see it coming. For what comfort that was. At the very  least, she could still see what Hanako was doing. 

If all went according to plan, Ume would detonate the eyeball once Hanako had stuffed it inside the mask's crack. Right after Hanako retracted her hand. Ume figured the blast might propel Hanako off of the beast in a hopefully safe way.

Alternatively, if Ume has "Marked" something, she can focus to expend reiatsu less violently. Instead of exploding a mark, Ume can expend [50 reiatsu] to force the object that has been marked to move towards another mark. If the marked object is moving then it will continue to move at the same speed, just changing its trajectory. If it is not moving, then it will be shoved or pushed towards the other mark that at it's speed (Or Ume's, whichever is faster). If the mark collides with something, then it is consumed (as if Blink was activated). If it touches another mark, then both marks will explode as if Blink was used, Consuming [200 Reiatsu] but having the effect as if 3 marks were consumed instead of the two.

When Wink is used, Ume can spend [50 Reiatsu] to not have the colliding marks consumed.
