| Hanako is taller than average for a Japanese woman, standing at 5'7" and weighing approximately 137 lbs. Her naturally endomorphic build makes it incredibly easy for her to put on weight, a problem which she tirelessly combats to achieve her current soft pear shape with a layer of muscle tone hidden underneath. She likes to wear her black hair tied up, or back into a ponytail, but it is always styled rather than allowed to fall freely. Her hazel eyes change in intensity and shade from the center outwards, creating a burst effect that sweeps from a light blue to a darker toned ring on the outside of her iris. A small nose hides in the center of her face, often overlooked in favor of her expressive eyes and mouth. Her limbs ere on the side of lithe, due to diet and exercise, and her midsection is toned with a layer of soft fat on top. Her hips and breasts, however, are larger than the rest of her would suggest, as one cannot as easily lose fat from these areas. Long legs make up much of her height, and are noticeably thicker than her arms. Outside of her uniform, she dresses to complement her body, rather than hide traits she isn't fond of. Tops tend towards flowing or open affairs that draw attention to her breasts, alternating with bottoms that might hug her curves, flow with the lines of her body, or bare her legs altogether. Hanako is a very expressive and outgoing sort. She wears her emotions on her sleeve, is quick to anger, and quite impulsively gives her thoughts and opinions on what's happening without care or thought for tact. While such honesty is often proclaimed to be a positive thing, in reality, one who so readily and openly calls out people and situations for what they are can often be seen as rude, and even self-centered. One is not entirely wrong to describe Hanako in this way. She tends towards selfishness, thinking of herself first and often what she can personally gain from a situation when deciding to butt into it.
However, this honesty also speaks to the sort of person she is deep down. She wants to see the world as a fair place, where good deeds are rewarded and the bad punished. She is unafraid to call out injustice when she sees it. In her eyes, the world would be a more harmonious place, and its people all the happier for it, if only they were more open about their true selves and feelings with one another. It's for these reasons that she's a terrible secret keeper, and is frequently in trouble with authorities when her values clash with rules she doesn't agree with.
Hanako has a very playful tone to her voice and mannerisms when interacting with others. To some, this may come off as innocent fun, but to others, it can seem sinister. She loves to tease, to pick apart the facade that is worn in front of others and discover the true person hiding underneath, and to indulge herself in enjoying this process of getting to know others. She is quick to assign nicknames, even at a first meeting, and invites them to do the same. Behind these spontaneous games and disregard for socially acceptable rules for personal interaction, the more astute might notice glimpses of the woman's intellect showing itself as she seeks to learn more about them.
Hanako is intelligent, and particularly gifted in the field of problem and puzzle solving. She is also highly empathetic, quick to understand the feelings of others, and willing to fight to soothe them. She has a particular affinity and fondness for children, who don't typically know how to mask their feelings like adults yet, and is especially quick to protect a child in danger.

Fighting Style: Hanako has been trained to be swift and efficient with her attacks. Hit and run tactics are her preferred method of dealing with a threat, wearing down her foe's stamina before going for a decisive killing blow. A prolonged fight only means greater chance for herself to be harmed, and thus, is to be avoided when at all possible. Tools and spells at her disposal are used to create opportunities for her to attack, rather than direct head-on charges. She likes to employ distraction and subterfuge to keep her foe off balance, whether with magic or physical actions or even her words themselves. To this end, she is trained in Hakuda in the style of Chinese Kung Fu; namely, Drunken Style. By appearing to be off balance and unable to defend herself, she reduces her foe's ability to accurately predict her next move.
However, her primary weapon remains her zanpakutō, and even its shape is informed by this style of combat. Rather than a katana, Hanako's zanpakutō takes the form of a sakabatō; a curved sword with the cutting edge placed reverse of a katana. By giving the impression that she wields one weapon before revealing its true nature, she can take advantage of the confusion when a fight first begins. Once this moment has passed, however, she is prone to using the curve of her weapon itself to lock and divert her foe's attacks away, opening up opportunities to slip passed their defenses and end the fight.
When zanjutsu or hakuda fail her, Hanako falls back on her skill with kidō to give herself the necessary time and space to sway the fight back into her favor. In particular, she is skilled at and prefers the use of bakudō over hadō.
If it becomes clear that she cannot win a fight through any means, she is not above fleeing to regroup and reassess her situation. After all, what good is honor when you're dead?
Zanpakutō Spirit Appearance: Tsukikage appears as a beautiful woman draped in white robes and a veil, both of which seem to emit a light of their own. Her features are obscured by the veil, though her skin appears to be a darker tone, and her eyes pierce the obstruction of the veil as silver beads of reflected light. Locks of dark hair fall about her ears underneath the veil, and when she takes a step, her feet are clearly bare. Bizarrely, shadows are drawn towards her figure, rather than being cast away by her emitted light.
Inner World: A vibrant field of flowers that stretches endlessly in all directions. In the night sky overhead, a waxing crescent moon keeps watch over the field.
Zanpakutō Appearances: Tsukikage takes the form of a sakabatō with a moderately curved, twenty-four inch blade and a circular tsuba resembling a sakurasou in bloom. The hilt is wrapped in dark purple cloth, with decorative menuki which depict the phases of the moon. The saya is jet black and bears a mei in the form of a crescent moon in dazzling white contrast. It is worn by Hanako with the cutting edge facing down, as though a katana.
In shikai, nothing about Tsukikage's outward appearance changes overtly. However, more observant foes may recognize the glint of light reflecting from the blade has become less harsh, as though reflecting moonlight rather than sunlight.

Overall Ability: Tsukikage's power commands the realm of dreams and the shadows which conceal them. Its blade dances on the edge between this realm and the material, existing within both at once. It can interact with the realm of dreams through the medium of shadows, dealing death to a foe without ever needing to touch their physical form itself.
Shikai Overall Ability: Tsukikage bears the ability to damage a foe via contact with their shadow. Wounds inflicted are as though they had been dealt to the appropriate area on the body as where contact is made with the shadow; in cases where the shadow is amorphous or otherwise does not match to the body, such as when a strong light source is directly overhead, damage is dealt to an appropriate area on the shadow-facing side of the body of the receiving player's choice. With this ability, outward defenses are bypassed entirely; such as shields and barriers. As no additional damage is dealt by this ability, its usefulness lies entirely in its ability to deceive the foe and strike unexpectedly. To that end, attacks to the foe's shadow can be made with either side of the blade, not just its cutting edge.

History:
Hanako's earliest memories are of the Rukongai. Unlike many lost and wayward souls who call the districts their home in the afterlife, she was born native to the land. Her parents raised her as best they could, with what little they had in the way of food and shelter, and for the longest time, she couldn't complain. Life was neither hard nor exceedingly difficult. It simply was.
However, as she grew, the young girl began to show signs that she was different from the friends she played with daily. Souls needed little or no nourishment at all, usually, but the girl hungered. She craved food, more than her family was able to provide, and thus, began to find ways to get it herself. She got caught more often than not, but over time, the girl's talent for thievery showed itself; talent, or simply a skill built upon by desperation.
Eventually, like with most who showed promise of a higher power, this had gotten the attention of patrolling shinigami. Thieves and pickpockets were certainly nothing new, but those very acts drew attention to the quirks of the young woman's budding strength. She was caught again, by those far more skilled than herself this time, and was given the choice: languish in poverty here in the districts, or serve something greater than herself in exchange for luxury she had never known.
It was a difficult decision, but Hanako made it her own in due time. When next the shinigami had shown himself during a patrol, she accepted the offer and was taken to the heart of their world: the seireitei. There, she was enrolled into the Shin'ō Academy. There, she made friends and was given an education she had never known to want. The classes were grueling, yet she persevered in the interest of never suffering the kind of life she had lived before, not now that she'd known what she was missing.
It didn't take long for her skills in the art of stealth to show themselves, and Hanako was soon moved to a specialty course that would emphasize on complementing her existing talents. In addition to the sword she was to train with, she was taught to properly suppress her presence. Speed and efficiency became the goal of her training, rather than brute force. However, the young woman still bore other interests, particularly in a style of martial arts she had seen one of the teachers practicing. In her off time, she came to join the older shinigami in meditation and practice.
Now nearing the end of her training and graduation from the academy, Hanako's path is set before her. Division 2 awaits to make use of her skills and talents, but is it truly what she wants? Dancing lights and sweet smells flit about in the dark of night, coming with a faint voice after sleep has taken her. The world will soon change, and she along with it...
