KILL SIX MILLION DEMONS [DE Hard Adventure]

[Tala Selao]

As Tala walked off from the gate, he was shortly joined by one of the older unseated members, one he’d recently went on patrol with, “Well, I can’t exactly let you get yourself killed after how you proved yourself just now. Also, can’t let you greenhorns show us older, more experienced members up.” Tala gives the older man, who he remembers had introduced himself as Arata, a grateful smile and nod. Arata himself looks as if he'd already been in a few fights himself so, Tala figured he must be capable enough, or at least more capable than Tala himself. They’re about to continue when another voice had them stop in their tracks, "I can lend a hand with that, easy!" Tala had only met the young man once before, but he recognized him as Takagi Rei from the when the Academy students had visited Squad 3. Tala saw that Takagi was still outfitted in the white and blue striped shihakusho that the students wore and this fact caused him a great deal of worry and concern although he didn't let this show on his face. He wondered for a moment if he should have just gone by himself but he knew it was a good thing he'd ask for help, as he knew he was way out of his league here and could definitely use the help. So instead of showing his concern and worry, he gave Rei the same grateful smile and that he'd given Arata, "I'll take whatever help I can get."

He finally leads them out of the gate, running as fast as he could while keeping up with the other two as best as he could and as he does he begins informing them of what his plan was and what he was hoping to accomplish with their help, "I was hoping we could get one of the seated officers to help us, but I think between the three of us, we can handle this. For now, let's avoid getting into any fights unless absolutely necessary. Plenty of others are here and able to hold off these demons that three unseated officers won't be making much of a difference if we're gone. As I said earlier, I'm sure there's plenty of people trapped in the Rukon districts, so we're going to there to help escort them back to the gates." Arata glances back and gives Tala a look of concern as he runs ahead of the two, clearly being much faster them, "Kid, I'm no savant when it comes to sensing energy but even I can feel the pressure of Reiatsu coming from over there. You sure you want us to be heading there?" As Arata mentions this, a grimace settles on Tala's face as he knew this issue was true. He could also feel the intense pressures coming from the districts closer to the Seireitei but that didn't change the fact that there were sure to be Rukon residents trapped and suffering out there. Tala steels himself and nods, "I'm certain." Arata stares at him for a moment and then simply let's out a hearty laugh and shakes his head as he glances at Rei, "Well probie, looks like you've chosen to join the group on a suicide mission. Steel yourself as Selao-san here has and listen to what we say, when we say it. We're heading into the heart of things now."

As the trio entered the first few districts of the Rukon, Tala had to stop and let out what was left of his last meal, the carnage and brutality of what the Hellions had done to those unfortunate enough to be caught in their path, causing him to be sick beyond belief. After assuring the others that he was fine, they continued on their way and Tala finally caught a glimpse of those leading this attack on their homes. Tala was thankful that the Akki were too focused on their individual opponents to take notice of him and his allies. Even if his Reiatsu sensing skills were awful, he still knew that if they even looked at him with their overwhelming spiritual pressure and the fact that they were holding their own against some of the Seireitei's finest, they'd surely be dead in an instant if they so much as glanced at the trio. His attention is torn away from the battle of the leaders as the screams and feelings of utter terror and hopelessnes from the Rukon citizens began to overwhelm him. They had to help them. They had to save as many as they could. Tala watched as Arata jumped straight at one of the larger and more terrifying looking Hellions, letting out a war cry as he swung his sword down on it. It was a great effort but it seemed as if the blade hadn't been swung with enough force, as the wound doesn't look like it cut that deep. The Hellion slowly turns on Arata is about to swing on him, however Tala quickly runs over and holds up his arm and shouts, "Bakudo #8: Seki." The orange shield popped up, but was instantly shattered as the demon's arm swatted Tala back and into Arata, sending them both flying backwards a few meters. Tala was holding his arm and screaming in pain as it had instantaneously been broken at the wrist, the hand hanging limply now. The demon howls almost as if it was laughing at them and then begins to charge with heavy, thunderous steps toward them. Luckily, for those two and unfortunate for the charging demon, a barrage of forceful winds assails the demon, covering its body in cuts and lacerations. The winds keep barreling through the demon for a few seconds, pushing it back as they do, before the current stops and the demon starts to stumble back and forth for a moment until it eventually slams down on its knees before it gets dragged away back into Hell.

The officer who had just rescued them ran over to Tala, who recalled was the 8th seated officer and was named Hayato, began pouring the green aura of Reiatsu into him, "Y-you look like you've seen better times, what's the situation out here? How're you holding up? Captain Minamoto sent me out here to try to get you guys to head back to the gate; he's not looking to lose his family, yeah?" As the officer healed Tala with the green aura, the poor lad had to hold back his cries as his wrist slowly healed. To keep himself distracted, he focused on Hayato and tried to answer his questions, “We just got here sir and respectfully sir, I’m not leaving these people here to fend for themselves.” Hayato gives Tala a stern look for a moment but then sighs, ”If I can’t convince you three to come back to the gates then as an officer, I will stay and help make sure you all survive and come back alive. So I’ll be taking over from here, understood?" Tala gives Hayato a nod, who lets out a sigh as he finishes healing up Tala’s wrist, "S'all I'm able to do for now, but we've got medics back by the gate. Please, take a moment to rest if you need it! I'm going to continue to get everyone I can to return, please don't hesitate to do the same if you see anyone!" Hayato then gets up and runs over to help and check on Rei, should he need it.

Tala started to feel a little guilty as he watched Hayato take off. He knew that what he was wanting to accomplish here had to have been far too much for them to take on, yet Tala still foolishly believed they could handle it. And in doing so, he nearly got himself and Arata killed, all of them if Rei was struggling on his own. He looks over at Arata and makes sure the older man is alright before they rejoin Hayato and Rei. Hayato had just finished up healing a little bit of Rei’s wounds with his green aura before he glances at the other two and nods, “Alright, here’s the plan boys. We’re going to go through each building one by one and take out any demons on our way and gather up as many citizens as we can. I’ll scout out the building before we head in and then Tala-san and Takagi-san will head in, if I don’t sense anything too big or strong, while me and Arata-san keep watch outside. If there is anything too much in the building, then we’ll all head in. Once we’re in and the building is clear, then we’ll gather up any survivors and take them back to the gates. We’ll do this for as long as we can before we need to fall back. Everyone understand?” Tala and Arata nod their heads along with a verbal confirmation and as soon as he gets the same from Takagi, Hayato nods as well, ”Good. Now let’s go.”

Hayato then leads them to one of the buildings and holds his hand out for a moment, gathering some Reiatsu in it before releasing it. He waits a couple minutes then glances at Tala and Takagi, ”Alright you two, it seems like you should be able to handle this. It’s a two story building, one large open area on the first floor and then three smaller rooms on the second. There’s about five entities in there, two of them currently hiding in the furthest room from the stairs on the second floor. The other three entities are on the first floor and shouldn’t be too much for you two if you work together. Got it?” Tala nods and then gives a reassuring look to Takagi before he grips his Zanpakuto and slowly begins inching towards the door. He gives Arata a nod, who’d been standing near it, waiting to open it for them and he does as they get closer. As soon as it opens, Tala quickly makes his way inside and hides behind a table that he spots. He ends up knocking over a plant pot in his haste however and the shattering draws the attention of the three Hellions in the room, who screech and rush the duo, readying to attack.

NORTH GATE

Zatoshi dragged the shinigami aside, helping him to prop himself against a wall. His eyes scanned his body for wounds. They were serious, but survivable by his estimate. "M-much appreciated, lad," the shinigami spoke, his words all but forced out, "you're something of a lifesaver, y'know that?"

Zatoshi merely shook his head, “You fought well, it would be a shame to see you die here. There are medics behind the front, they should be here soon.” He watched his senior improvise a bandage, and clapped a hand to his shoulder in solidarity. “I think I'll be alright," the shinigami spoke, a gruff tone to his voice, "been through worse in the years I've been here. I'd like to catch your name if I can, though; I want to know whom to thank for this."

“Zatoshi Kizukara.” The response came freely from him as he stood. “We don’t have time to exchange courtesy now, however. If you continue to draw breath I’ll take it as thanks enough.” He glanced down the road to see two members of squad four rushing over. As he turned to take his leave, one of them spoke while he crouched to assess the fallen warrior. "What happened?" The shorter of the two spoke, turning her head toward Zatoshi, "anything we should know immediately about his current condition?"

A muscle in his face twinged. Despite being clad in an academy uniform, the severity of Zatoshi’s voice and demeanor cut an imposing authority. In this chaos anyone could be a leader. “Look around you, woman!” He snapped, “I don’t think you need to have it explained to you what happened,” he turned fully to face the pair as they huddled over the casualty. “His current condition is that he is bleeding to death in front of you while you waste time with stupid questions. Do something about it!”

He had initially planned on returning to the front line, but in honesty now he was concerned he had to oversee this man’s care. There was a sore lack of urgency with which the situation was being handled and it concerned him greatly. These medics needed someone to kick them in the ass and damn it if that wasn’t something he was just angry enough to do now.

Something caught his eyes. Just at the end of the street, where medics hurried casualties back on stretchers and carts stood an imposing figure. They were clad in crimson armor like a samurai of Earthly origins, an ebony skull mask beneath their helmet obscuring their features. Something was deeply wrong, he knew it immediately. He, who felt no spiritual pressure or trace of energy beyond what he could physically see, felt something.

Something sinister. It permeated from the motionless warrior like rot from a corpse pile. It seethed a bile like murder in the air, and worst of all, it stared at him as though looking through him.

“Something w-wrong?” The shinigami he’d pulled out of the front forced out. Even the pain on his features couldn’t mask a concern; Zatoshi looked shaken in a way that the present situation had failed to produce. He couldn’t imagine something worse than this hellish battle.

Zatoshi looked down at him, and then back up at the figure. The words were on his lips to warn them of what surely must be a monstrous invader behind their lines -- but the armored figure simply wasn’t there. Moreover, he felt no trace of it. A chill ran through him. Either they all were in grave danger, or there was something happening to him that he could not explain.

Zatoshi shook his head and turned to leave. He found himself staring into gaping chasms; eye sockets of an ebony skull with nothing but blackness behind. The crimson armored warrior. A wave of putrid energy crushed the world. The sun from the sky shined gray, the world was robbed of all color.

Zatoshi stumbled a few steps back and his hand dived for the hilt of his sword only to grasp at air. He realized that around him the battle had frozen. Every man, hellbeast, and cloud in the sky, stopped cold as if frozen.

“The raven stands on its perch,
the cage door hangs openly,
black wings are found clipped with fear.”

The voice that left the skull echoed hollowly through the soundless street. It took Zatoshi a few long moments to both collect himself and realize that the words spoken were about him. “I am not afraid.” Zatoshi growled in defiance, his fists balling.

The figure stood aside in silence, raising a gauntlet clad hand towards the battle lines as one might open a door. Zatoshi’s eyes passed to the frozen chaos and the sinister figure. “There is only so much I can do, to put myself in that position would only encumber the fighters there that are stronger and have more experience.” Zatoshi shot back, but his teeth ground together.

The figure shook its head as if in disappointment. It began to walk. Slowly it circled Zatoshi who stood, following it with his eyes.

“This storm upon us, claw and fang, sword and spear,
Weapon and Master, both doomed, made weak by fear.”

“What?...” The words left Zatoshi involuntarily. Weapon and master?

“That is correct, little bird. I am your power. I am born of your soul. I am mighty and terrible, as are you. How it pains me to see you shackle yourself so.”

“That can’t be right!” Zatoshi shouted, “you stink of evil, murder and death. There is more to me than this!” The figure stopped in front of him.

“Evil? Murder? I suppose some would paint it as such. Very well, Kizukara. Know my name, and know that I will not tolerate another moment behind the front line.

For I am...”

The moment Zatoshi had turned away from the trio he froze in place. A rogue wind whipped between them - first a breeze, quickly a howl. Blood that seeped from the shinigami’s wound began to float upwards, forming perfect droplets and streams that defied the pull of gravity, drifting towards Zatoshi. A spiritual pressure began to build that was completely unbelievable given the academy uniform that whipped across his back.

“Surely not...” the injured shinigami whispered. Zatoshi’s hand drifted to the hilt of his asauchi. As his fingers tightened around it, he spoke in a whisper that would be heard by few.

“Spirit of Murder, Satsujin no Seishin.”

As those fateful words left his mouth, all of the blood in the street from the fighting rose upwards to his call. It drifted from the earth, from the dead and dying, from the weapons, claws and maws of every man and beast who spilled it. It spiraled through the air like a storm in many streams and flows. A length of it flowed down towards Zatoshi as he drew his sword. It wrapped around it, enveloping the blade until it grew crimson. As soon as that blade had been drawn from its sheath, Zatoshi’s eyes took on a dull red. There was a moment of stillness from him. And then he exploded into action. A flash step sent him over the front ranks, forward, far forward.

He landed skidding on his feet as he hit the ground next to Tsuyoshi, a moment after leaning forwards with a wild swing of that glowing blade. A blast of pure ruby energy left his sword in a wave as he swung it, the glow of the sword whipped outwards into a pure expression of destructive power. It screamed through the air, the edges crashed into the front of the buildings lining the street with great and calamitous results. For two hundred meters that sword stroke blasted through the street.

The demons that had begun to fill in the gap that Tsuyoshi’s shockwave had created were culled, split in half at the waist as that blast ripped through countless bodies as if they were nothing but many toys to be discarded. It would continue until it dissipated at the end of its range. The mass bloodshed that resulted also too, fell under his control. It began slowly drifting through the air towards the captain and the academy student where they stood, beginning to orbit them in a slow, lazy circle. As more and more of it gathered it spiraled upwards into the sky, a slow-motion cyclone that reached towards the heavens.

In his head, he ran through a dozen hypotheticals. He would need to reach Ken'ichi as quickly as possible and extract him without stopping to rest. Just how long would it even take Luca to get through 40 districts, and back again? Last time it took weeks to cross 75 districts. Then again, he had been trying to blend in that time. He was a lot slower too, come to think of it. I'll find him. I'll show him just how much stronger I've gotten. Wouldn't that be awesome? Luca kept running. There was no time for a break. No time for anything that wasn't rescuing Ken'ichi. Luca tried to turn his uncertainty and fear into resolve. The only way he would know for sure Ken'ichi was ok was if he reached him.

He had to. Failure wasn't an option. Maybe he hadn't known Ken'ichi for long, but in that short time, Luca found something he didn't want to lose. Luca looked down as he ran. One of the dragons was carving a bloody path of reiatsu infused destruction not far from him. Luca wanted to do more. He wanted to kill every demon between here and the district Ken'ichi was stuck in. Luca knew he couldn't do that. He was all alone. No one to count on but himself, and that meant conserving resources... "GYAHHHHHHHH-!!!"  What the hell? Luca turned around. Something was flying through the sky. Not a hellion. Hellions didn't have such high-pitched voices. Luca could only see a shape heading right by him. He didn't know what it was. It was small, and somehow he felt the urge to protect it.

Luca fumbled , trying to reach out, only to lose his balance and fall on his face, arm dangling over a newly-formed air platform. The object was falling, fast. Luca knew he had to save it, even if he didn't know why. Reaching out with soul command, he created a large updraft in an attempt to catch the unidentified flying...plushie. What the fuck, is that a stuffed animal? Luca did his best to float the creature over to him, assuming they did not resist the jet of air under them keeping them at neutral velocity. Luca picked up the plush creature as he rose to his feet. "What the- How did you- WHAT?!?" Luca asked, bewildered. This creature could scream, so they could probably speak as well.

A mod soul...I've never seen one like this before... They looked comically out of place in a mythical battle between hell and the shinigami. Even so, Luca would stay quiet and listen to their answer about what happened to result in them flying through the sky. "Look, this is super dangerous, ok? I don't even think you should be here..." Luca sounded unsure. He wasn't "supposed" to be here either, but he was. Still he didn't like the idea of this little creature thing getting hurt. "I'm kind of going on a dangerous mission to save someone. I don't think you ought to be coming with me. It's like super dangerous... And you're like all small and soft." Luca sounded unsure, as if the very action of talking to a plushie was disconcerting. To be fair, it was. Plushies were all soft and kiddish, and Luca was WAY too cool for that! Just talking to the little critter made him feel like a kid playing make-believe.

If Shio insisted, Luca would quickly relent. "Fiiiiiiiiine!" Luca groaned. "I guess it's probably safest for you if you stay with me... Hold on tight, cuz I'm about to break the sound barrier!" Luca hoped such a small creature would not notice how lame that last line was.

Luca wouldn't have the chance to get very far when he found another unexpected visitor.

”Luca! Your objective.”


Luca was taken aback. This was even worse than the talking fluffball he was now babysitting. This was... A captain?!?!? Luca had never met the Captain of the 12th. He had heard about him from Ken'ichi, though. He's heard about me as well... As it stood, this was not how he'd have liked to meet Ken'ichi's boss. Luca measured his words carefully. If Captain Tezuka was anything like Ken'ichi, he would be hard to hide things from...Probably harder since Ken'ichi was an idiot. Luca had ties to one of the invaders, and was toting around a mod soul who was marked for death by nature of being a mod soul. That wasn't to mention he was part hollow now. One wrong word, and Aramis might just execute him Maybe he'd be pragmatic like Ken'ichi, but Luca couldn't know that. "You don't need to worry about the mod soul. They're here to help too. It would be stupid to throw away an ally in a time like this, you know. Me, I'm here to save Ken'ichi. I know he's in danger. I won't just sit back and let him face hell alone!"

“I’ve never seen you before in my life, so I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Resisting the urge to punch Albin through the stratosphere, Wynne watched as the silver haired shinigami retreated behind the barriers. There her answers went, further and further away. After all this time, after months of searching, she had finally found what she was looking for. Yet ironically enough, the answers were still out of reach. Should she pursue? Even now, in the midst of battle? Staring at her surroundings with narrowed eyes, she shook her head. Too dangerous. Or was it?

Leaping back into the fray, Wynne slaughtered more demons as she kept an eye on Albin. Camile’s last thoughts to her were important, more important to her than anything. And she would have them. No matter what. Even if it meant kidnapping Albin. If she saw an opportunity, she would take it. The problem was that the nearby demons were much too weak. Albin was strong, he wouldn’t be injured by small fry. Not only that, but her allies were another hindrance. Looking around dangerously at her fellow Shinigami, Wynne wondered how she could separate her fellow members of South Gate. She needed to get Albin alone. And she needed it now. How could he ask her to wait! After all this time! She had waited long enough! Ripping apart a hellion with a frustrated growl, she allowed more and more demons to swarm her as she thought.

The number of demons here was impressive, but their strength wasn’t. Surely there had to be stronger ones. The question was, when would they appear? And when should she make her move? She needed answers from Albin, but he was acting like a good little trooper. Wanting to finish the battle before giving her answers. And this wave of demons seemed endless, and so many things could happen during this time. What if this naive fool died? Then she would never have her answers. No, she would need to get her answers before then. He might not give them out of spite if she kidnapped him, so that would be a last resort. Instead, she would try to get him injured, to take him out of the fight. That way she could take him to Squad 4 where she could question him about Camile. A scuffed plan but she didn’t particularly care.

And even though she didn’t like it, she’d need to wait a tad bit longer for stronger demons to appear. Or for Albin to make a mistake. Whichever came first, and wherever he went she’d have to follow. The urge to suplex this boy was strong, but she’d resist it for now. For Camile. Just how did Albin know her last thoughts? Who exactly was he? These were all things Wynne wanted to know. And things she would find out. One way or another. For now she’d watch and wait. Prepare. These demons provided endless opportunities, and as long as she was careful she should be able to get what she was looking for.

From the top of the Blue Stream Gate, the first few districts of Rukongai was unrecognizable. The buildings, the streets, and everything in-between was simply swarming with the legions of the underworld, giving it all a coat of black, grey, brown, and red that did not fit well with the usual sunny blues that hanged over the Soul Society. It was needless to say that even taking a glance at it all did not quite encourage many to go in there. Even some of the most fearless members of the Tenth and Eleventh Divisions that neared the gates found themselves becoming hesitant at the sight. However, down there, it was somehow even worse. Anyone who had the displeasure of stepping forth into this literal heavenly hell would be met with vandalized establishments, destroyed homes, and gruesome depictions of the Souls who were unfortunately unable to properly flee the enemy. This was not the first invasion Soul Society had suffered, though it was clear that it would nevertheless leave a despicable aftertaste once this is all over.

And yet, there Kimiko was, rushing onward towards the horde without any restraint.

Above, those of the Fifth and of the other Divisions who remained closer to the gate watched as the Third Seat of the Eleventh sped towards the demons. It was a rather incredible sight for many of them, to see someone so fearless brave the incoming force, and for a moment, many believed that she was throwing her life away... but that was not the case. A wish to kill herself was not fueled the girl's body to move forward. Of course, that was impossible: she will not allow herself to die here, or possibly ever. Rather, what did was utmost excitement. She had suffered for a long time under Taishokukane. Every time she trained with him, he treated her as a being inferior to another, something to push to a limit that appeared unreachable. All this time, she had made sure to maintain herself before the others, before Wynne, before Celes, though now, she could not do so any longer. She needed something to blow off the steam that had collected in her mind in one way or another. It needed to be something big, bigger than just a typical Hollow she was sent to finish off.

This was it. In every single aspect, this demonic invasion was exactly what she was looking for. Although she has never met one before this particular incident, and even less so conversed with one, she has always had a sort of hatred for the denizens of the underworld. In her eyes, they were irredeemable pieces of filth that did not deserve to be part of any society, whether it be the Soul Society or whatever civilization is supposed to be inhabiting the Hueco Mundo wasteland. They had no right to be here in this world - or any world for that matter - and so they ultimately deserve to be killed over and over and over for their mortal transgressions until they understand that they cannot be permitted to ever leave Hell. It did not matter to her that they were once Souls like her who were corrupted by whatever lies within the fiery realm: they were simply nothing more than mindless beasts whose slaughtering is imperative for the safety of everyone in this world, even Hollows.

Taishokukane was delivering many words within her head that told her to both calm down and not show weakness before the enemy. They overshadowed those who were told by Shizukakane, so much so that for a moment, it almost appeared as though the older Zanpakuto spirit simply refused to speak. Despite this, it did not matter to the wild Kimiko. If anything, in response to the things silver specter told her, her excitement grew tenfold almost as if it had a mind of its own. It was so strong that it made her simply ignore him. Then again, even if she didn't want to ignore him, her current emotional state would have prevented her from keeping her attention onto him. Her eyes became wide with downright-bestial eagerness to cut down everything that she could see, and her heart began to beat both rapidly and powerfully within her chest with the strength of a raging bull. Her spiritual energy, usually calmer, was downright shaking her surroundings with its power, enough so that glass would shatter around her presence as she moved along. At times, it kept the Hellions ahead from attacking her head-on.

There were unsurprisingly many who did try to attack her. Emboldened by their hellish mania and inhuman pride, the more savage beasts were encouraged by their nature to face the Shinigami in battle while those that bear a modicum of intelligence instead would observe at a distance. The lot of them watched in a mixture of horror and fascination as their pitiful brothers-in-arms were absolutely overwhelmed by the woman. In the matter of what appeared to be a second, or maybe even a split-second, they were cut to pieces. Those who had the proper speed to notice it would realize that the girl was using Iaijutsu slashes with the both of her blades in order to deliver her attacks, but all the demons nearest to her saw were Hellion body parts flying about all around. Heads, arms, legs, all followed by geysers of blood spilling onto the rooftops. Those were the lucky ones. The unluckier demons instead found themselves downright cleaved in two by the power of the two blades she wielded. Either that, or they would instead find themselves with heads reduced to two or three separate chunks of flesh flying about.

Kimiko did not keep count of the beasts she slew. There were too many to do so proper, and quite frankly, her excitement outright prevented her from doing it as much as it prevented her from putting to much attention into the corpses of the dead filling the streets below. All she instead did was keep moving forward at all costs, slicing as many demons as she could to both reduce the numbers heading towards the Blue Stream Gate and fulfill her own emotional quota. Ironically, as fearsome as she made herself ought to be before both the demons and her own people who stood nearer to the gates, her carnage allowed the later to be bestowed with newfound motivation. Those from the Eleventh stepped further onward, pushing back against the horde to the best of their ability while the more magically-proficient officers blasted a few more of the beasts with their spells. Unfortunately for them, this boost in morale was then cut short.

The bolt of black fire that crashed into the barricades was loud enough to cause the dual swordswoman to look back towards the gates after she had pierced through one of the Hellions' chest. Her scarlet eyes briefly widened at the sight of the fallen officers being burned alive by the black fire, and for a moment, she found herself clenching her teeth. However, while she did so, the weakened demon she had pierced would let out a dark laugh. "What's the matter, Shinigami? Are you afraid to die?" It would ask with a sickening grin as it showed its sharp fangs to Kimiko. Though it was on the verge of being returned to where he came, it seemed just lively enough to muster the energy to speak. "Your pathetic struggle is pointless. We are infinite. The further you strike us down, the more powerful we shall bec- URUEGH!" 

Its last laugh would be swiftly and cruelly interrupted by the swordswoman as she suddenly pierced its chest with her other blade, then raised them into its neck. Once done, she then violently pulled the blades back to bring the demon's face closer to hers, enough so to force it to gaze at her widened, excited eyes. If it was not the sheer pain the demon felt in the moment that caused it to shut up in the moment, the brief darkness within her spiritual aura made sure to seal the deal. "Then you know what to do. Go back down there and bring us more!" She would order to the demon as it returned to her a spiteful, pained glare. From such a closed distance, her spiritual pressure was such that it was causing its body to crack and cave into itself. "We'll strike you down all the same!" After she finished, the beast let out one last cry of agony before its head caved into its chest from the invisible force pressing onto it, causing the both of Kimiko's blades to cut through it and finish it off completely. Soon after, its body would dissipate alongside the others, reduced to nothing but hellish dust.

The others, also affected by the pressure, had made sure to keep themselves away from Kimiko in the meantime, ready to pounce at her any moment. Kimiko would give them all a good stare before she would resume her carnage with newfound energy. This was going to take a while. Good. She was going to enjoy this to its fullest.

When soaring through the air, Shio could not be described as anything graceful. As much as she might have anyone else believe she were simply 'gliding like an eagle'; that it was an intentional display, the truth of the matter was far from this. In truth, had she spun out of control, part-way through her course, and in doing so was vaulting around in circles. As she yelled out in a fashion that made even the beasts of hell stare up in confusion, as well as amusement, she cries out in her destabilized - panicked mind.

Internally, attempting to gain some semblance of balance to herself restored, but all the while failing. Right up until Luca arrives within her whirling sights; in an abrupt turn of events, she was now rotating, but instead of in the direction she had been flung - it was now skyward. 'What now?!', is the initial thought of the mod soul, as she was fully without control. Little did she know, at least not until the proceeding moments, that the tiny soul was being pulled towards another individual; that she had caught their attention, not even registering upon her at that moment.

Eyes accompanied by nausea and a distinct 'Bleugh' noise does emit from the doll, as Luca grabs ahold of her. It was a good thing she did not have a stomach, else she may have just given up her lunch. Nonetheless, she was disorientated, too much of so to actually form a response to the otherwise befuddled utterances of Luca - "What the- How did you- WHAT?!?". Likewise, the doll lay flat in his palm, it appeared she was attempting to recover from her dizziness; abruptly, Shio shakes her head in a frenzy, and gazes upon Luca.

Yet another person she did not recognize, but this one felt different from the others - familiar, somehow. At the very least, she could notice at a glance that this one was no Shinigami, and that already put her opinion of him high above the rest forthwith. "Uah.", in a shaken tone does she finally articulate, muddled and dizzy still. "You look better than the Hellions, at least; and most of the Shinigami, for that matter." It was as though she were drunk on vertigo, stately declaring the abbreviated thoughts in her head.

"Just... stay still, I'm going to rest for a bit." In an absolutely unscrupulous way, does Shio clamor up the arm of this stranger; a person she had never met even once before. Wriggling free from his light grip like a drunkard, and placing her soft squishy chin upon his shoulder. Her other arm slung over that selfsame shoulder, without even asking. It appeared as though she gained some semblance of calm from this, in stark contrast to the hellscape around the duo - the hellbeasts that threatened to slay them in cold murderous rampage, she appeared just satisfactory.

Upon those next words that affected her, however, all of that changes - "Look, this is super dangerous, ok? I don't even think you should be here..."; much like a punk would in some pre-twenty-first century media, she bellows - "Haaah?!". Furthermore, does she argue back at him. "Do you see anywhere else safe around here buddy? I'm trying to rest here, sheesh." And on that note, the plushie appears to melt into Luca - figuratively speaking. In a manner that aptly conveyed just how leisurely and acquiescent she had intended Luca on being.

"I'm kind of going on a dangerous mission to save someone. I don't think you ought to be coming with me. It's like super dangerous... And you're like all small and soft." - "Are you trying to say I'm too WEAK to be here- why you?! I'll have you know that I'm leagues above those Shinigami goons, you be grateful that I've even offered you my protection!"; so that was how it was, that's how she saw this situation as at the moment. "You have no choice in the matter, so be quiet-! Furthermore... bleugh-" whereas once talking with her chin raised, does it now fall back onto Luca's shoulder reluctantly; "-I think I'm gonna be sick.".

As Luca does eventually relent, allowing her to rest upon him, is Shio finally content with the situation. At least, she was too disorientated to argue or assert her wishes any further. Much like an unwanted guest in the passenger seat of a taxi cab, Shio was destined to accompany Luca. "I guess it's probably safest for you if you stay with me... Hold on tight, cuz I'm about to break the sound barrier!" Without any further protests, Shio grabs ahold of him with her little mittens; nonetheless making herself comfortable, even though one important thing she had almost forgot to mention - she lets out with a groan. "Awesome." - it almost sounded sarcastic, a twisted mix between pity and deadpan cringe.

In those selfsame moment is Shio blasted by wind once again, her scarf tugged at her; even her lupine ears bent backwards. Caught in the wind tunnel produced by the velocity of speed that Luca was moving at, it was difficult for her to recover any of her senses. All she could do was bury her eyes into his shoulder and grit her felt lips together. It is within this wave of nausea that Luca arrives to a sudden halt - one which threatens to throw Shio overboard. Thankfully, it did not, but with sickly trepidation does the mod soul raise her head.

There was a figure in the path of the duo, Shio did not seem any wiser to who this person was - in fact; she was so dizzy that, upon her impaired senses, she could not even make him out properly, he was a blur. In regard to this, neither could she tell just how delicately Luca was attempting to disarm the situation. As a matter of stated fact, since the very beginning of all of this, she couldn't tell anyone the specifics of anything that was going on at the moment. So, this being the case, whoever this was, they were simply another happenstance in a series of events she was swiftly growing tired of. Shio stared down Aramis with a twinged eyebrow.

"Who's this prick?"

Technique Description and Effects: A Mod Soul's ability to reach out with its Reiatsu and take control of a body it inhabits is something truly unique. By simply surrounding itself with material, it can reach out, and make that substance its own body, take it in and use it as if it were part of itself, and for all intents and purposes, become its surroundings.

This technique works on the basic principle of the Mod Soul's ability to take over that which is within its surroundings. By having its Reiatsu extend from the body that it is physically inhabiting and branching tiny roots of it's own Reiatsu, the user implants them into the surroundings before taking them into their body, adding the material to the body they already inhabit, making it a part of them. In its most fundamental stages, this ability can simply be used to create a shell of material around the user from surrounding materials in very thin layers. In its most powerful of forms it can integrate entire landscapes and take control of them. While this extension allows them to sense changes in the controlled environment, they do not receive pain as a result of it. Additionally, control of the environment is effected by Skills such as Battle Focus, Strength of Will, and any other mental skill that would effect their ability to concentrate on manipulating it (Having multiples increases this further, allowing extraordinary control). In addition to control, both buffs and debuffs of a Reiatsu nature can be passed to the Mod Soul through the environment that they have extended into. This control of the environment does not extend to Reiatsu attacks such as Cero or Kido unless the attack manipulates physical material such as water or fire. In these cases it can be controlled so long as the user has Superior Reiatsu Strength to the attack's power. The environment manipulated maintains its properties, and aside from the Speed at which it moves (based on the Mod Soul's Reiatsu Strength) its features such as durability and malleability are unchanged.

At Class 8-6 the user can take in dust or spirit particles in the air and make it a part of themselves. In this most simple of forms, it is as if the air surrounding them is a part of them, allowing Mod Souls to sense anything passing through this air as if it were touching them. While this does not hurt, it is a useful sensory tool that can be used to notice incoming objects. The effective range of this ability is approximately three meters, extending to four meters at Class 7 and ten meters at Class 6. This process costs 100 reiatsu to initiate and lasts four posts before it needs refreshing.

At Class 5-4 the user can, in addition to sensing and branching their Reiatsu into their surroundings, fuse these dust or spirit particles to their skin in small layers, allowing them to actually use material they are in direct contact with. This enables them to add protective layers of material to their body in order to create a surface, much like a weapon. Areas of their body that have had this layer added to them can be considered like the edge of a sword or other weapon and can be used to attack and parry incoming slashes, though reiatsu-based attacks and the like will tend to weaken the bonds and cause the layers to peel away. At Class 5 this layer can be applied to any small patch of skin no more than ten square inches in area. At class four this increases to an entire limb. This process takes 150 reiatsu to initiate and lasts for five posts at Class 5 and seven posts at Class 4.

At Class 3, the user can extend their Reiatsu into their immediate surroundings for brief moments. Anything nonliving within five meters of their body can, for a brief moment, become as though it is a part of them. They will feel anything passing through it, and they will be able to manipulate the material within as if it were a part of their body. This lasts for roughly fifteen seconds, or about one post, and costs 175 Reiatsu to initiate every time

At Class 2 The user can spread their influence, making their surroundings part of them. This allows their soul to take root in their surroundings. With this active, they can freely manipulate their surroundings within five meters of their body indefinitely, as well as any material that COMES into this range. This ability costs 500 reiatsu to activate and lasts for eight posts.

At Class 1 The user can not only influence their surroundings, but completely fuse with it. Taking in ambient materials, a Mod Soul can modify whatever body they inhabit into a weapon using surrounding materials, transforming their body and taking on a much more intimidating form. For seven posts, this form can be maintained and utilized, though it cannot be refreshed for another three posts after that as the Mod Soul takes time to recover, blocking them from any Class level of use during this time.

How to Use Technique: This uses the basic principle of a Mod Soul's ability to control a body it is placed within. To use, a Mod Soul Simply needs spread their spirit energy outside of that body in the form of tiny roots.

Technique Drawbacks: Using this technique, the Mod Soul's surroundings becomes a part of them in every way, as such any poisons or negative ailment abilities can use the affected surroundings as a means of spreading their debuff to the Mod Soul itself. This technique's TTP cost depends on the level being mastered. 5 TTP at class 8, 10 at class 7, and so on. However, one's aptitude with the technique must be "Upgraded" when learning the next highest class, paying the new ttp cost in order to upgrade the Tech, making up for the cost as if you learned at a higher class. It also cannot be used to affect Seki Seki rock.

[Shawn Rabuburēdo]

Shawn looked on, watching his fellow Shinigami tear into the horde rushing at the South gate. The other Shinigami that he's been helping to mow down some of the Hellions from up here Shawn found out the name of, Shin. "I can't keep creating these spears, don't have the reiatsu capacity for it, that's why normally I'd be out there in the midst of the horde." Shawn understood, after all not everyone gains a giant pool of reiatsu to use, even he didn't have a ton to use. "I get it, if my hands weren't so messed up right now I might have joined you. Gotta deal with what you're given though."



As if the world heard the conversation going on between Shawn and Shin, a silver haired guy started yelling about making weapons for people. "Well, it seems we might have gotten ourselves some more ammo!" Running over to the silver haired fella, both Shawn and Shin stop in front of him. "We need some throwing weapons, Javelins would probably be the best, could you help us?" Shawn would ask this but before an answer could be given the battlefield began to explode, this wasn't even an overstatement as multiple fire and electrical explosions went of all around leaving massive craters where Hellions used to be. He would be very happy at this if he didn't also now some Shinigami probably also got caught in whatever that was. Hearing the man he assumed did this destructive act yell, Shawn turned to see him disappear into the crowd shredding through any Hellions that got in his way.



Turning back to the guy with silver hair Shawn once again asks if he could get some Javelins or some other kind of throwing weapon. "Oh, sorry, my name is Shawn and I'm from Squad 11, just escaped from a bad situation just to return and find an invasion going on, to boot my hands are currently damaged", saying this he raises his hands up, "So I can't even wield a weapon, thankfully my friend here is wielding some for the both of us." Just then a Hason with bird wings flies upward and over the gate, knocking a Shinigami over the wall who was casting Byakurai's previously. Quickly raising his hand and wasting no time Shawn mentally speaks the words Hado #4: Byakurai, sending a beam of lightning that managed to pierce the Hason's head, dropping the flying Hellion from the sky. "I'm really getting sick of dealing with Hason."

[Taiyo]

Taiyo's journey through the streets of Rukongai was not uneventful, as he had come to meet many demons. He was thankful for his strength and speed at this point, as he was able to dispatch the weaker demons that flocked to him like flies to a carcass. Yet he had not been able to regroup with the other shinigami, much to his annoyance. Taiyo had learned to remain calm, much more so than he had even believed himself to be. He was afraid sure, but having slain his fair share of demons now... it was becoming a cold act to him. He didn't like this feeling, the sensation of emptiness when he cut down his foe. No pride or satisfaction, nor sorrow or regret in his actions. He simply killed because it was the only option that didn't involve dying.

As he stood amongst a group of dead demons in a back alley, Taiyo felt... nothing. His expression blank as he looked to the seireitei, the pristine buildings just beyond the barrier. He wondered how Kaen was doing... or how Toki was doing. In his wonderings through the streets, Taiyo had only encountered enemies or slain allies. Sure he knew the way to the gate, but going straight there was not an option, and as such he was forced to take the round about way to his destination. This was taking to long for his liking yet he couldn't simply rush back to safety. It was then that the sounds of a blast could be heard some distance away. Taiyo's head turned just in time to help him narrowly avoid a falling demon's smoking carcass, which had been dropped thanks to that massive attack from earlier. 

Whatever had just happened had at least wiped out a vast group, but... there was so many demons in the air it was hard to see just how many they had killed. Whoever had unleashed that blast had done a great job at least, yet he hoped it didn't come at a great cost. Though Taiyo wished to think more on this, the demons did not remain oblivious to his presence long and soon another group arrived. They did not immediately advance and instead landed just outside the range of his blade. There they stood, horrible creatures of tooth and fang. They watched with eyes devoid of anything but malice yet they held their ground.

Taiyo took his stance, getting ready to be attacked and yet nothing came. Instead a voice rang out, one that was hoarse and rough. Like sandpaper to the skin or razors as cold as ice on ones nerves.

"You've survived... for quite sometime... Not an unranked... but perhaps more?"

This voice was soon revealed by a shape taking form to Taiyo's left, still out of range unless he lunged for it. The lanky arms that let its talons drag the ground, and the burning embers of a familiar set of eyes. The demon that had slayed those he had been working alongside. Its body was a true mess, one of a nightmare given life. Taiyo would have been afraid if not for the burnout he was experiencing. He was suffering from what most would if suddenly introduced to a warzone without proper preparation. Taiyo had never experienced battle, only teachings and now... he was suffering from the emotional burnout. 

It didn't mean he wasn't a threat, but his overall mental health was not doing great. Perhaps that is why they didn't immediately strike. Whatever the case was, The Lanky demon got into a stance to which Taiyo responded with his own. His eyes were on the demon, but his attention was not without focus on the others. Instantly the demon before him began to move, its attacks were straight forward. Slashing and clawing in a manner that seemed more like a beast, not at all like the precision it showed before. It had committed its killings with precision and lethal efficiency. But now it seemed to be lashing out like a beast in fury? 

The others were not idle, they too rushed in to aid the other. Taiyo was quick to respond by moving away, trying to create distance by not only moving but also by using a wide sweeping slash of his blade. The demons did not stop, pushing each other into his sword. This caused Taiyo to panic for a moment as the demons showed no care for their own safety, but rather simply threw themselves onto his sword. His immense strength allow him to cut through them but the sheer volume of bodies being thrown at him caused Taiyo to stumble.

His error quickly lead to a stab wound to his torso, and he felt his eyes snap open as the pain reached his brain. Like a bolt of hot metal had been stuck through his abdomen but thankfully it did not pierce any organs. Taiyo regained his footing before slamming the hilt of his blade against the hand that was stabbing him, breaking the nail of an unfortunate demon off into his own torso. The others clawed and bite down upon his but Taiyo's immense strength allowed him to shake them off before returning to a standing position. Within a matter of seconds, Taiyo had suffered numerous wounds and blood trickled down his body. He was not grievously wounded, but his injuries were apparent to anyone with eyes to see. 

But it was not the shinigami alone who had suffered injuries. In striking and biting him, the lesser beings had also suffered wounds themselves. His spiritual pressure thankfully breaking jaws and fingers with their blows. It wasn't going to stop several of them, but a few of them were cradling their wounded parts with cries of agony. 

"So easily... broken."

The demon stated, its pauses were caused by deep inhales of air, as if breathing was difficult. What sort of monster was this creature, it was cunning and not easily disturbed by its allies agony. Taiyo remained steady, sword pointed at his foe but the fatigue of battle was catching up to him. His wounds awakening the fatigue his body felt. He was not exhausted but his breathing was heavy like someone who had ran for a while. The claw in his abdomen hurt like hell, but he was able to block it out at least a little. Adrenaline was helping at least. The talon was not large, and didn't pierce through, yet it was still a knife in the gut even if a short one. His black outfit slowly turning dark redish around the site of the wound.

However, thankfully just as the demons got ready to launch another attack, a shout of fury sounded from behind Taiyo. The shinigami turning to see who it was only to spot more of his allies running into battle. They rounded the corner in a wave of fury, blades cutting down Taiyo's foes  as the group began to overwhelm the small band of injured demons. The lanky armed demon was faster however, disappearing with that same technique as before in a strange hazy manner. Whatever it was using as its ability was terrifying. Taiyo assisted in the clean up and as the last demon fell, so too did Taiyo fall to his knee.

Clutching at his stab wound, he felt his vision haze as pain racked his brain and the mental fatigue dulled his mind to anything but the moment. He could hear talking, but couldn't understand a word they said. Slowly he was helped up, a shinigami under each arm as they began to haul him towards the gates. The wounded Taiyo staring with dull eyes at the destination with a blank mind now.

What a joy it was that it was not just two going out into what may as well be no man's land. Yet, all the same, it meant more was on the line, did it not? There was concern to be held all around when it was their home at stake here. Tala made a good point in that given they didn't seem to have much in the way of power, it was better to avoid unneccessary engagements. Which...yeah. Given the sheer number of hellspawn around there was definitely no reason to potentially get in a fight that they could not win.

Moreover, there was an immense pressure coming from the Rukon. The very SITE they wanted to go to. There was a rather sharp inhale from Rei...before he exhaled. "Plenty of suicide missions to go around, given everything." He spoke to Arata-san. "Like it or not, we've got a duty to uphold!" The intent was not to die, and yet...as they ventured forth into the first few districts of the Rukon, the sight was...brutal. Blood, and much more had been spilled thanks to the Hellions' ruthless swathe being cut through anything unlucky enough to stand in their way.

Rei didn't lose his lunch, thankfully, but there was a part of him that was...disgusted by this. A part of him that admittedly wanted to do what was impossible at present (alone), that being...well. Kill the demons. Yet, he shook his head. He gritted his teeth. No, he had to focus here. He moved on in with Tala to engage and rescue civilians from the aforementioned demons--and while Tala and Arata were engaging the larger Hellion? Rei was moving about to ensure the safety of anyone in the area. Which of course involved cutting at a couple of oncoming Hellions.

...

No small amount of bloodshed on both ends, really. Steel versus claw. At the same time, with Hayato's intervention? The Hellions took off--it would appear these were...smarter than most for one reason or another. A bloodied Rei glanced faintly towards Hayato--the medical aid for his arms and a cut on his side was much appreciated. "Thank you..." A little bit of healing goes a long way in an invasion like this, really. Moreover, Hayato seemed to have a plan--yes, that was arguably instrumental right now. It helped the group be on the same page, yes! It was a relatively simple one.

Go through each building, clear out any demons and gather up as many civilians as you can. Numbers for each building were dependent on what precisely Hayato sensed within. "Understood--We'll likely have to work as fast as we can, but...it's doable, I think."

Not I think. You KNOW.

A voice not his own rang in his head, they sounded almost...annoyed! But, there was a relief felt that Rei was catching onto this so quick. The layout for this first building was straightforward. Large open space on the first floor before it branched out into three rooms for the second. Rei offered a nod of acknowledgment to both Tala and Hayato, before doing the same for Arata. The duo entered. The duo drew the attention of the Hellions.

That voice spoke again.

Stop them before they get the others! C'mon!

And who do you think you are to order me around...? I've-...

Rei would draw his asauchi before he'd flash step over to one of the hellions to draw its attention away from Tala, the quick movement giving the academy trainee enough room to try land a sizable cut on the Hellion! If successful? He'd break away to try using Shunpo to move for another, and another. Distractions, distractions for Tala to hopefully capitalize on!

“Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws!”

At Tsuyoshi's orders, there was shuffling amidst the ranks of Shinigami. Since the Captain had joined the fray, previously hesitant and wavering Shinigami had turned full force, following the more powerful and stalwart seated Shinigami in front of them. Multiple shikai had since been released as the concentration of enemies shifted to either end of the defensive line. With the line of combat thinning in the center, logic would have dictated that the incoming horde would begin to found cracks through their defense. Unfortunately for the Hellions, there was one major obstacle that stood before them that had thus far proven absolutely, unequivocally insurmountable - Captain Minamoto.

With a grin permanently painted onto his face, Tsuyoshi's already blindingly fast movement merely increased in order to control the extra creatures that now entered his threat range. His steps became wider and bolder, his swings focused more on wide sweeping movements, and his martial prowess continued to shine. Even with the occasional stronger Hellion, a series of sword thrusts and Hakuda combos were often executed faster than even the more experienced Shinigami could keep up with. On occasion, his sword swings would emanate with the flow of Reiatsu, splitting air and causing shockwaves to slice through the immediate area, often thinning out the crowd just long enough for him to catch up with any stragglers.

The force and speed of his swings quickly found an equilibrium - despite the increased exertion, he still remained well below even his normal restraints, but at least the increased numbers were keeping him engaged now. With Tsuyoshi handling the brunt of the center forces, more firepower could be concentrated to either flank as Shinigami began to force the Hellions back, slowly but surely. The sounds of incantations echoed from the previous ranks, giving the front ranks time to utilize their step techniques to make enough room for the Kidoists to get a clean blow. Recent drills and training allowed for his Shinigami to work in a coordinated effort, and even the weaker martial fighters were at least capable of holding their own.

"Hado #40! Gouzen Demizu!"
"Hado #33! Sokatsui!"

With the help of multiple Shinigami using Kido within rapid succession of each other, a series of massive waves cascaded upon the Hellions, pushing the weaker ones back in droves. As the water receded and washed harmlessly over those Hellions strong enough to stand their ground, a wall of blue flames shot forwards, unevenly engulfing the Hellion line and creating a new area for the Shinigami to defend. The battle pulse rejoined as Shinigami immediately engaged despite their very short reprieve, focused on securing some type of avenue using the walls and some alleyways as cover to give the citizens of the Rukongai somewhere to escape to, with particularly bolder Shinigami driving headlong into combat to stonewall any pursuers.

In the rush of combat, Tsuyoshi… almost didn't notice the subtle near-disappearance of one of the other Captain's spiritual energy. In front of them, it seemed that not only had one of the Akki's spiritual signatures nearly completely disappeared, but Odayakama Senshi's as well. "Tch. That strong, eh?" His attention was stolen long enough for a Hellion to make solid contact with his chest, only for their arm to make a sickening crack. A second attempted to make a coordinated swipe at his face, only for several lacerations to immediately tear its arm apart. Fortunately, their suffering was ended by a swift horizontal swing that separated their bodies in twain. "Ludwig is on his way - seems everyone is busy today. If I leave the line though - we've made ground, but how long can they maintain it without me?" Tsuyoshi gritted his teeth only for his thought process to be interrupted a second time.

The buildup of Reiatsu struck Tsuyoshi first, and his ears picked up on its call: “Spirit of Murder, Satsujin no Seishin.” Tsuyoshi turned his eyes to one side, comfortable in the inability of the Hellions to cause him any significant harm. He followed the flow of bloodied mist to the source of its energy only to watch Zatoshi Shunpo forwards and come to a stop next to him. As the crimson crescent sliced indiscriminately through the horde in front of him, giving the two of them a brief reprieve to assess what was left standing, Tsuyoshi took the opportunity to make a verbal jab at Zatoshi.

"Impressive swing, eh? What's your name, Student? You should think about joining Sanbantai (Third Squad). Your Shunpo is pretty sloppy, but we can work on that." He turned his head, still grinning, forwards again. His eyes scanned the already rebuilding horde in front of them, taking a mental note of the Hellions as they approached and the position of the rest of the members of the defensive army. He gave his Uchigatana an idle twirl, leaning back on his heels as his eyes leveled a particular pair of Akki charging directly at them. The bloodlust in their eyes and movements mirrored the strength of their respective releases, and their savage aura could be felt from the hundred meters they still had to cross to the two of them. "Guess we should push the line shouldn't we? Do me a favor, eh Greenhorn?"

There was a pause as he angled his Zanpakuto upwards directly at the closest Akki in front of him, who now had a small horde forming again behind it.^[1] It was unclear what happened first - perhaps it was the indentation on the ground, or the vacuum of air that rushed to filled the spot Tsuyoshi had been standing in. Perhaps it was the way his afterimage faded from view, or maybe it was the red mist that sprayed in seemingly every direction as every Hellion in a straight line of Tsuyoshi froze and split into pieces of various shapes and sizes.

Tsuyoshi's Uchigatana is a 28in. slightly curved Japanese blade that he primarily wields one-handed. While there is nothing astonishingly impressive about the blade itself, the hilt and guard are fashioned much like a Zanpakuto might be. It sports an oval guard that is securely fastened between the hilt and the blade, and the hilt itself is slightly longer than normal, though Tsuyoshi almost exclusively handles it directly underneath the cross-guard. The hilt is wrapped in a series of interlacing black and white wraps and dangles approximately two inches from the end.

The scabbard for Tsuyoshi's Uchigatana is built specifically for the blade itself and is fashioned in a much older Japanese style than modern swords are. It is constructed to be clipped and worn at the waist, and the scabbard itself is fairly ornate with depictions of dragons and clouds along the front and the back. At the base of the scabbard, closest to the Uchigatana's cross-guard, is the clan insignia for the Minamoto clan, circa 1100 AD.

Even the students of the academy had been called to help out with the shortage of manpower, the battle calling for more fighters to keep the hellions out. Most of the other the students had been paired with a full-fledged Shinigami and sent to the front lines, however the officer assigning personal had taken one look at her and refused to send her to the front lines. While it had irked her slightly to be labeled a liability in battle, the fear that filled her stomach made her extremely thankful not to have go to the front. With only a frown of irritation Toki allowed the officer to assign else wear without a fuss, the small woman quickly scampering off as orders were issued to deliver supplies to the back lines. Along with several other students deemed unfit for the front lines Toki quickly gathered up as much of the list as she could carry before having another student strap it to her back. With preparations complete the group headed to the west gate, Toki falling into the back of the group as they approached the makeshift hospital near the west gate.

       The air was filled with despair as she looked around the makeshift hospital, the cries of pain echo throughout the repurposed warehouse. Her eyes looking form one fallen figure to the next as she walked further into the hospital, the heavy bag on her back only seeming to weigh more as dread filled her thoughts. Despite the need for haste Toki could not help but look for Taiyo among the wounded, her eyes looking for the large oaf as she failed to notice one of many staff run up to her and speak. It was only after a moment that she snapped out as the man's words woke her form her stupor. "Put the supplies down right here! They can grab it when they need it but for now, I need an extra pair of hands! Hey! Come here!" the man all but yelled at her, the panic in his voice making her hurry over to a wounded shinigami with a viscous looking chest wound. four deep slashes ran across it as the medic had her push down on the bandages. The man's cries about pain filling her ears as she pushed hard against the bandage, the doctor next to her trying their best to stop the bleeding as a green light covered their hands.

    Despite it only being moments for Toki it felt like forever before to doctor was finished, his hands no longer glowing as the exhausted doctor shook ever so slightly. "I stopped most of the bleeding for the moment, however, keep pushing on the bandage while I grab a spirit out and rest for a moment. I need to check on the others as well" he finally muttered weakly before standing up and leaving Toki alone with the wounded man. Now alone with the man Toki could not help but look him over, the pained look on the older mans face made Toki worry about Taiyo. Her mind filled with images this man being filled her thoughts as she worried the big oaf might be injured some where. So deep in her own thought's she failed to realize the man next to her slowly still.

    It was not until sometime later the doctor returned to notice the man had passed and with a shake of his head quickly pulled to Toki away as sputtered apologies "dead? wai...what? I did ..." was all that could come from her mouth as the only stopped her. "Let's worry about those who still live, now come here and shake it off the best you can" he finally said with a sigh, the man pulling Toki with him for the time being. The older doctor keeping a closer watch on the small woman now as she explained the medical procedures for each patient, a small effort on the doctors part to distract Toki's thoughts about the man who had just died next to her.

A few hours earlier...

Thunder rumbled within the skies above, dark clouds looming overhead as a light drizzle of rain fell from the heavens. Blanketing the entire Seiretei in darkness and gloom. A prelude of the destruction that was to come, yet for the moment, many were unaware of the impending chaos that would befall the Soul Society. Despite such terrible weather, that was not nearly enough to stop those within the Gotei 13 or the few organisations that worked alongside it. A terrible day yes, but such sodden ground would not be enough to allow for a day of rest. Rather, simply a day of soaking wet clothes as many trudged through the mud. A fact that hadn't gone unnoticed by a certain emerald haired Shinigami once he had awoken that morning, a frown tugging at his mouth in solitude as he looked beyond his small window. The atmosphere was a horrid one and he held no desire to step into. Not if he could help it.

Unfortunately, he could not overrule his superiors instructions, as much as he might wish it so. Leaving the male to his duties and in turn, trudging about in the rain filled lands. The pathways within the Kido Corps were clear and shaded, free from such things, but stepping beyond meant a day of unpleasantness. How very true such a thought was, would eventually come to light. Yet until such a time, he spent the morning going back and forth. Passing on messages here and there, even joining in some training. All before submerging himself into a bath, changing into a mud-free and warm uniform, and finally after hours being able to fill his stomach with food. Something he would never take for granted, a meal was always hard earned and even if for some it seemed just a fact of life. For someone like him? Even after months and months working, it still felt like an utter privilege. So few others understood, so he kept it to himself, retreating to the archives once he had finished with his own food. Content to spend a few hours reading.

Not knowing they would be his last moments of peace for days, if not weeks.

Present

It started with a loud thud.

Not due to the Shinigami in question dropping a book, but from a stack being knocked over as another individual rushed into the archives. Seemingly uncaring at the moment about the rules of the place, not to mention disturbing of precious materials that he knew for a fact some of the few seated officers they had planned to use later. A certain someone would definitely be getting a talking to later, or maybe even a rough training session. Kido thrown their way again and again as they were expected to evade, deflect and counter the assault laid down upon them. For a brief moment, the elder looked up from where he'd been resting, upon a staircase halfway up. A slanted gaze looking down as the young woman that had just entered began to look around rather frantically. A smiling visage in place as he observed her for a few moments, wonders just what in the world she was doing. Of course, the words that soon passed her lips, were far from what he expected and would change well... just about everything. There would be no more normal days in the Seiretei.

"HELL HAS INVADED! WE NEED TO MOVE!"

Had he been holding a beverage or anything else, it would have fallen from his grasp. Instead, the book within his lap toppled to the ground in a heap, abandoned entirely, as the Shinigami rushed down from his perch. Stopping only once through the doorway, as many others within the archives rushed out and past him. How had such a thing even happened? Why had no one seen it coming? Had there been attempts? Nothing from the Kido Corps at least, though it seemed their more senior members were already off by the sound of ringing bells throughout the barracks and Seiretei as a whole now that he had paused to listen. How had no one seen this coming? Shaking himself out of his own concerned stupor, he ran. As fast as he could, weaving between similarly rushing bodies in the halls until he reached his own quarters. Grabbing his Zanpakuto from the stand, he took once brief look over his shoulder. At where he knew he'd kept Shin's items, what was left anyway, safely protected and tucked away. He hoped they would still be like that when he got back, if he came back.

"Wish me luck, or maybe just.. good odds? Yeah." Murmured words, quiet and nearly soundless as he blocked out everything else for just that moment, the tiniest glimmer of hope. If it was Hell, well his chances of survival weren't exactly high, but that didn't mean he wouldn't damn well do everything he could to stay alive. Moments later he was gone, the door to his own room locked tight as he rushed through the many halls and out. The skies clearer now, foreboding even still with the clanging of sirens going off constantly. Each section gathered split into groups while the newest remained, Seiji knew he had to listen as much as he wasn't sure he wanted to be anywhere near hellions, let alone fighting them up close. So like the rest, he ran though towards his own destination, his peers seemed content to stay back. To avoid the worst of things as countless people began to arrive at each gate defending the outermost walls of the Seiretei. His destination? The South Gate.

The sight before him was enough to terrify and inflict fear upon many, but with a deep breath and a harsh swallow, he collected himself enough to move forward. Smile still in place, despite the chaos around him. No matter the sounds of battle that erupted in his ears and rattled through his head, he had seen large scale fights, but this... he'd never seen anything like it. It was what they trained for he supposed, situations like this. Arriving on the scene to the bloodshed that had already begun, the emerald haired Shinigami wasted no time in joining the fray, Zanpakuto drawn in one swift motion, cutting the first hellion before him asunder. Only when spotting a familiar face did the tension in his form ease just a bit, knowing others were around, that he wasn't the only one fighting helped. Though there were plenty more here that he didn't recognize, but that did not matter. If they were helping in taking out this massive fucking horde, he wouldn't get in their way. Instead, he kept moving, cutting down a few hellions here and there when he found their attention distracted elsewhere.

Only when he found himself tiring slightly, did he shift back, ducking and weaving as best he could. He hadn't gone that far forward so it wasn't too difficult, to soon step back behind the barriers that his colleagues had already begun to rapidly set up. There he found Albin for the briefest of moments before he was heading further back, understandably so. None of them could afford to perish out here, yet for the moment he stood beside those he'd trained with and began to speak. "Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws!" The chant a familiar one on grinning lips, from stationary to running back through the barricade, aimed at a small group that had rushed to try and attack the barriers directly. Not a chance. "Hado #33: Sōkatsui!" A rush of blue flame burst forth, hotter than normal to eradicate the group into nothing but a pile of cindering ashes and reishi.

[Wycliff]

Wycliff continued towards the hoard of demons that were attempting to breach the gates of the Seireitei. Each time one of these weaker demons came into contact with his chill they would find that their bodies would freeze over, killing them without much effort needed from the captain. While Wycliff wasn’t moving slow, it would take a bit for him to make it to the front of the gate. Luckily the size of the gates and the small buildings of the rukongai allowed Wycliff to get a clear view of the battlefield at the front. It was as he was making his approach that he saw the bolt of black fire spew out from somewhere in the hoard.

He could only watch as it struck a squad of shingami. In rage, Wycliff let his spiritual pressure flex out and push down on everything around him. He wasn’t using the full weight of it, given he knew very well that he would also of affected the rukongai citizens and other weaker Shinigami, however the air would grow heavy for everything within range. The demons from hell would find themselves stunned by the weight pushing down on them. Wycliff with one single goal started to use shumpo to close the gap.

Using shumpo continuously he rushed past the demons Wycliff saw that there was a lone shingami right in the center of the demons. He didn’t know their name, however right now his focus wasn’t on that Shinigami. It was on the fire the strange black flames from hell. As he arrived at the spot where they had been hit, without a second thought he raised his blade up towards the flames and unleashed a gust of cold wind to absorb the flames. Almost instantly the black flames would be extinguished, Wycliff could see members of his squad dead, some very hurt, but still alive. The cold would slow them, it would slow their bodily systems. He hoped enough that members of squad four could arrive and save them.

To those that could move he spoke “Fall back, get the injured out of here.” He looked over at all those here defending the gate and screamed out. “All of you, get back, I’ll hold the line, these demons won’t pass me. I will stop them, but I can’t guarantee your safety if you stay.” With that said Wycliff looked at the hoard that he had been using his pressure to stun. He smiled, only for the simple fact that he had something to take his anger out on. Without a single word Wycliff’s form vanished and reappeared back closer to the hoard. As he did a massive explosion of chilling wind radiated from his body freezing everything it came in contact with.

With a single hand extended three twisters fifteen feet tall appeared around Wycliff. He would start to walk forward into the hoard. With each step he took the three twisters spun around Wycliff, slamming into the demons the raw force of the twister shredding their flesh. The very few that could withstand the force of the winds would find themselves instantly chilled in a cold close to absolute zero. Wycliff was heading to the dead center of the hoard, with one goal in mind, to kill every last demon.

Location: West Gate

Moving through the streets at a pace that Rafael wasn’t totally accustomed to, well moving at a good pace wasn’t a problem for him it was more that he hadn’t ever really run this fast through the streets. What had started as a typical trip to the Rukongai in order to buy supplies had pretty much immediately turned into something out of a horror movie. Getting through the Rukongai took time and based on what he’d been told by the citizens running away from the Shinigami stronghold. . . It didn’t sound like many of these humans had time. He wasn’t so sure he believed what he’d been told and wasn’t even sure why he was so adamant about helping.

He’d made his way up to the stronghold’s gate in the past and knew he’d be reaching it again soon, but this time he had someone to watch his back. Zadora had come with him to help carry supplies back as she was the only one that could keep up with him while carrying a decent load. Still he wasn’t quite sure if she’d be able to handle herself based on what was giving him this crawling sensation up his spine. It was almost as if he could feel himself walking into the cave of some horrendous monster that at any moment could chew him up and spit him out.

Thirty Minutes Later

Reaching the start of the first Rukongai District now standing on top of a building Rafael could see an army of chaos so encompassing it was almost like witnessing a flood. “Don’t leave my side ever. If you need help scream for me and I’ll do the same. Remember everything you’ve learned. Find a roof like this if you get overwhelmed and I’ll follow.” Rafael could feel the pressure now and wished he could send her away. It was a mistake to come here with her yet what he saw in front of him now told him. If this army wasn’t stopped and they brought down the shinigami. . . The wilderness is next.

Jumping off the roof down into the ever moving sea of enemies Rafael strikes the enemies directly below him with his knees positioned to impact the upper back. His weight would likely carry him down while smashing the first targets into the ground. His tail uncoiling from around his waist would wrap around the one closest in front of him only for Rafael to swing with all his might using the body of his target like a mallet against everything immediately around him. It’d only last for a moment so Zadora would be able to join him down here with the room he’d just made while Rafael begins to strike out with his fists, elbows and knees at everything in front of him.

Zadora was expecting to have a nice trip to the Rukongia with Rafael. Hoping that it would be better than it was last time. No fighting. Just the two of them enjoying their trip to the Rukongia. Getting their supplies/ necessities that they needed and/or wanted. Most of what she came from where items that she needed to cure and season meat that she was planning on jerking to start increasing the shelf life of their food. Plus get some chocolate that the one stall was selling that she particularly enjoyed.

But that all seemed to end. It started with a few running from the from the center of the Rukongia. Quickly escalating to everyone running passed them. She mildly heard what was being spoken to Refael before he gestured to her before he took off. Indicating for her to follow him. A mild look of annoyance washed over her as their peaceful outing ended abruptly. Couldn’t she just have one peacefully and fight free evening with her friend?

She released a chuff of annoyance before she ran after him, keeping pace with her gigantic feline friend. When he jumped to the top of one of the buildings, she quickly followed. Just when she was about to comment something, her golden irises stared to the large mass of demons. Fear almost paralyzed her on her spot... what the hell was this?!? What was she in some type of horror movie!? A movie with some type of zombie movie of sorts where zombies sworn all areas, killing all in their path.

She wanted it to be or hoped it was all fake... that it wasn’t real. But reality kicked in when she heard Refael’s voice. Speaking to her, telling her not to leave his side. Real fear began to set in. She had never been in this type of combat or situation! Never against this many enemies! This was the most she has ever seen. Her mind raced with all the thoughts that flooding her mind in that one instant. Completely paralyzing her for the moment.

Until Refael left her side and jumped down from the top of the building. Leaving her by herself. Her pawed hand reached out was the only movement she gave. Her breath began to escalate. Her pupils dilating until her golden irises were nearly black from how wide her pupils had gotten. Loud, nervous filled chuffs left her muscle at her growing anxiety. The fur along her back began to rise along her spine and around the back of her neck.

She knew he needed help down there. But her fear had her rooted in her place on the roof. ‘Come on!! Move your feet! Refael needs our help...!’ She thought as she tried to move her limbs that were petrified stiff. Trying to force them from their paralyzed state. She felt the muscles in her calves twitching. Yet the fear that was overwhelming her made it hard for her to move to add her friend who was fighting below.

Soon her muzzle contractions in a sneer. Fangs clenched between her fear and the anger she was feeling. Anger that she was paralyzed with her fear and was down there helping with her friend. Mainly when she knew he needed her help. And knew she needed to be down there. ‘Come on move it Zadora!’ She growled the thought out. Clearly becoming distraught with herself. Knowing she had to force herself to move.

Forcing all the muscles in her back and legs to become tense. Forcefully preparing herself to jump off the building. Her knees started to bend stopping as the fear yet again forced her limbs to stiff up yet again. She forced her muscles to finally move. Forcing them to walk her forwards and off the building. The nauseating feeling of her falling nearly making her vomit. But she would do anything for her friend. Anything for Refael. As he was her rock and courage.

Her feet contacted the ground harshly then she fell slightly forwards. Her left pawed hand came in contact with the ground, breaking her fall. Her three-inch-long claws tore into the dirt. Leaving long claw marks in the ground. Her large head lifted; fear clearly edged onto her feline features. But at the moment she was running on adrenaline, ready to slash anything that comes near her. Right now all she needed was to rely on the adrenaline that was running through her vines.
