In a battle such as this, you had to be quick on your feet, else you would be just as damned as the hellions with which you clashed with. Shunpo was a technique that Rei found...genuinely to be the most versatile thing he had picked up in the academy, and he hadn't even set himself to learning any other techniques yet. A detriment in times such as now, but...There was the hope that Soul Society could live. The hope that we could survive. Hope as a whole.

You're faster, but you can't even hit them hard enough, come on! You sure this is the right sort of fight to pick?

That voice again. They had a point--despite him having the advantage in reflexes, the Hellions were not necessarily backing down just yet. The next events were a blur, but Tala was able to restrain the threat with Seki, formulated a plan, promptly dropped it after another one had tried lunging for him--an attempt made in failure, and admittedly pretty understandable. Though, the shaking of the building and the declaration of the voice...Tala and Rei were both on similar wavelengths. They could not linger. They could not linger here at all. "Got it." Rei nodded, going to swiftly cut the Hellion down before it could even form words, having only just found the time to regain it's footing as Rei made an admittedly reckless gamble to try and make sure it stayed down.

It worked.

It should not have. But it worked.

"You-"

...Was it ever good to dignify a corpse with words?

No.

It's useless to do that, stupid! Not like they'll hear you.

Is this all that you're going to be doing? Admonishment? Who...even are you?

Fuck you, you purple asswipe. Stop dwelling on me and focus on what's in front of you, focus on what has to be done.

Internal dialogue aside, the group reconvened outside afterwards. "I don't think we WANT to know what that voice was--we should focus on- SHIT!" Rei's words suddenly turned to a single curse, bellowed as Hayato was suddenly batted aside like a gods-damned ragdoll! Holy shit! Hayato didn't waste any time in unleashing his Shikai, and...Of course. All that would come from them fighting alongside Hayato was them being in the way. "Better we help where we can than not." Rei spoke, as he looked to Arata--being helped by the konpaku at that building he got slammed into.

...Rei looked crestfallen at the man's condition. Doubts roared within. He hesitated, of course, but he couldn't argue with what was being told of him. "...Right. Every second counts. Let's move. Stay close, remember Tala-san's words. DO NOT try to make your way back on your own." He had no way of knowing how the situation at the northern gate was at the moment, but he had an obligation to help these people, so he got moving. Hopefully, they'd be able to make it back without much issue...

And if there was issue? What would you do then? Die a whimpering coward?

Did Rei even have an answer for this strange voice? Not...right now, admittedly. He had to be ready for anything as they began to move through. Rei remembered the route they took to get here, but there was nothing saying hellions couldn't pop up at any point...And there was a general feeling of unease to grapple with right now. Not just due to the invasion but a feeling of being watched.

[Wycliff]

Screams of rage and fury quickly died as more and more demons continued to charge right at Wycliff and the gate his winds destroyed those that dared to get any closer. Blood would have flown freely if it didn’t freeze the moment it left the bodies of the demons. Wycliff didn’t stop the onslaught of his twisters, sending them now further away from him to spiral around a larger area taking out more demons. While this was working to thin the numbers the truth was he was simply waiting till he could use his bankai.

Wycliff knew very well how skilled those that he sent to clear the area were, he knew it wouldn’t be much longer till most of the souls were out of range. Even in the battlefield he could see that most Shinigami had long left the gate after getting the message. There were only a few stragglers left and when it came down to it he knew that he would make the call to sacrifice those few lives to save the rest. He wouldn’t be to happy about it, but in the end he wasn’t going to value the life of a few shingami over the entirety of soul society.

A rumbling was felt as the ground started to shake, a immense pressure was felt as something rose from the ground, the sound of it moving shook the earth. The demons stopped for a moment in awe. Wycliff didn’t know what it was, but he could tell that it wasn’t on their side. Looking back he saw a massive worm creature assaulting the western side of the wall. He could only hope that they could manage to stop it. However that creature did make Wycliff’s decision much easier, he knew that most of the evacuation had been done, while some lives might be lost any more time spent here fighting these things one on one would be sentencing other lives to die.

At his own gate he saw two shingami, one he knew very well. It was Kyomei another captain and someone Wycliff respected on his skill of kido, the other he didn’t know all too well. “Forgive me the both of you.” He said to himself as he resolved himself. The demons started to move again, however Wycliff was about to end this assault as best as he could. “The sky grows dark, the ground turns white, on this peaceful night. Let the world know that winter has come. Boreas” Wycliff screamed out as he held out his zan.

In an instant without warning to all those near him everything was enveloped by his zan. Everything around the demons would be changed and sadly for Wycliff’s fellow shingami they would also be wrapped up in this as well. The sky raged with a massive blizzard that would leave next to no visibility for anything. The ground would be replaced with snow and ice everywhere. Worst of all the cold that had been somewhat survivable now plummeted to the extreme lowest it could naturally get. It was at absolute zero. Sound would be drowned out by the raging wind and snow flying. Everything within a mile of Wycliff was now directly inside of his bankai.

Many of the weaker demons would simply die due to the cold, while the more heartier ones could last a bit longer with the fact that now their goal was obscured and masked from sight it would become easy to be lost in the blizzard. However to Wycliff he saw nothing of the snow, no hills, no sound, no beautiful white paradise. He simply saw right through his bankai allowing him to strike at the weakened demons while slowly moving towards the female shingami who had been caught in his bankai. He had a plan to get her out of it, as far as Kymoei was, he was sure that the kido master could survive longer than this girl could.

It seemed Luca had scarce heard Aramis before he was off again, heading in the direction that Aramis suspected Ken’ichi’s unit had gone. Very well. So long as he isn’t in the way. The Mod Soul seemed to be ranting at him angrily but Aramis put that out of his mind. Though his ears were primed for picking out key details from the rant, it truly seemed to be purposeless, angry ranting at the Nakabakki. The Zanpakuto went snicker-snack, and a Hellion’s head came off its neck. Aramis continued to survey and re-evaluate the situation. The giant Shinigami and the one who’d identified the Espada to him as one Aramis could trust were retreating back to the gates. Aramis was not in their direct command, so while he could attempt to issue an order, it seemed the goliath was distracted by something. F. Aramis thought as he dodged aside from a Hellions’ swipe and impaled it through the neck, a twist of his rapier opening the beasts’ throat from the inside out. Allowing yourself to be distracted by petty things like ones’ emotions in the midst of a battle like this is how we join their ranks. He thought as he sliced across a demon’s legs to bring it down, and then lashed out with his left hand, that same something beneath the cloaked hand ripping through the demon’s face like it was made of cheese.

With Wynne and Albin drawing back to the gate, no sign of the Academy student, and Luca abandoning the front to pursue Ken’ichi, it seemed it was up to Aramis to push this particular front forward. Lack support for this… Very well. Abilities are ill suited to eliminating mass numbers at a time. Cutback Assault can compensate at the cost of defense. This is not a battle that can be won in a single decisive blow—it is a marathon. We win by outlasting them. Cutback Assault viable option but should not be abused. Limited number of uses. Will not significantly dent these numbers Aramis reached into his haori with his left hand, and procured a small remote. Hitting the button on it, something under Aramis’s Captain’s cloak began to glow on his back. At the same time, Aramis’s eyes spied one of the reception towers that had been set up in the Rukongai. Distance to objective…. One and a half miles. Acceptable. A Hellion noticed the glow under Aramis’s cloak and attempted to attack the Captain from behind, but the Captain flipped his rapier in one hand and stabbed backwards through the beasts’ heart without even looking, before initiating a reverse-gripped cut on another that seemed to believe this was an opening, with a quick warding cut that broke its charge with a hesitation—a thin line that leaked black ichor across the beasts’ chest, before Aramis corrected his grip and slashed its throat.

The Hellions were growing more numerous. As more Shinigami retreated to the safety of the Seireitei walls, the weaker the vanguard grew and the more Hellions that slipped through the cracks. Already Aramis was finding himself up against a solid wall of demons. No longer was he aiming for kill shots, but desperately slicing and stabbing—keeping the wall at bay only by virtue of his greatly superior speed. But while his speed outpaced theirs his endurance was finite. Certainly he was killing demons, his eyes detected at least half a dozen falling with fatal wounds from his frenzied offense, but at any moment, fatigue could cause him to falter. And if Aramis faltered he’d be overwhelmed by sheer numbers in an instant. But for once the Captain did not give himself a disparaging grade for putting himself in this situation.

He’d come prepared.

”Initiating live test of S.H.P. project.” Aramis stated allowed, as four projectiles suddenly lanced out from under his haori in an eruption of spirit energy. Suddenly, the wave in front of Aramis was bombarded by piercing bolts of reiatsu not unlike the Quincy’s arrows, killing a dozen Hellions from sheer volume of fire. They were nowhere near as precise as Aramis’s sword, nor were they as powerful as Aramis himself, but against low-caliber opponents such as these, they’d suffice.

Developed following recent data from skirmishes with the Vandenreich, one of the researchers in Squad 12 had attempted to replicate properties of the Quincy arrows, using shards of a Shinigami’s Zanpakuto and their spirit energy. While this was very much a work-in-progress, according to the calculations Aramis had from them, this was a weapon design that should, at its zenith, be able to replicate the efficiency of Quincy arrows, without eradicating the soul, and instead returning it to the soul cycle—in keeping with Soul Society’s prerogatives.

The current form of the weapon had been designed solely for testing purposes, but Aramis could think of worse things than having a set of automated drones that fired on any Hellion beyond the reach of his blade. Their programming was simplistic—only able to differentiate friendlies from hostiles, and they could not operate more than ten meters from Aramis at a given time, but they were already doing a satisfying job of reducing the pressure on him. Or at least would until the Hellions decided to target them instead. As a test prototype, there had not been any evasive maneuvers planned, only able to move to keep up with Aramis and get a better shot.

Still, now with this added strength, Aramis began to push forwards through the horde, finally making actual progress as the S.H.P’s continued their supportive fire, gunning down five more Hellions while Aramis’s rapier dispatched another two, and his left arm a third, creating a gap for the Nakabakki to press onwards through towards his objective.

Meanwhile, while Luca and Shio pushed toward their objective, there was a sign they might have been on the right track. About three miles out from Luca’s location, a massive silver form rose up above the various Rukongai buildings. It was a dragon, not unlike his own, but this one was much larger than Luca’s and seemed formed of liquid silver. The beasts’ roar could be heard even above the din of screaming Hellions and, jaws agape, a torrent of mercury blasted from its mouth, liquifying the hordes of Hell. And not far from the beast, cutting down a dozen Hellions with blinding motions of his blade was a familiar Shihoin—though how well Luca would be able to identify Ken’ichi at this distance was questionable. Still, in addition to the dragon, a number of other kido spells were being launched, identifying a visible Shinigami presence in the area, meaning even if Luca’s senses were inadequate to see the Shihoin it wouldn’t be hard to guess that the massive mercury dragon marked his location.

[Tsuyoshi Minamoto]

In the midst of his onslaught, Tsuyoshi had only caught part of Zatoshi's own offensive. "Kizukara, eh? Wonder how long he can keep that up." He wondered aloud, his attention snapping back to the Hellions in front of him as they piled in. For the most part, Zatoshi's sudden offensive had given them quite the reprieve, but as Tsuyoshi pushed forwards alongside him and the other members of Sanbantai and Jubantai, the density of the horde picked up again until it threatened to overwhelm the center and collapse around the flanks of the combined offensive.

A dull ringing in Tsuyoshi’s ears echoed from the attempted onslaught by the Hellions as they clashed harmlessly against his sword. He urged his legs backwards, bringing his sword across his body in preparation for a shockwave-enhanced blow. Just before he could manage to swipe his blade across, however, he heard it in the background. ”Tenryu Satsujin!!” The battlefield seemingly froze for a second or two as the words echoed over the entire roar of the battle, drowning out sounds and accompanied by a golden light that seemed to briefly color the entire area. Tsuyoshi barely had time to turn his head to his side to get a good look at which Shinigami had just released their Zanpakuto when the second call came. ”DORAGONZUREJJI!” The explosion of spiritual energy cascaded over the crowd as the golden ethereal dragon cascaded overhead. The Hellions that were immediately in Tsuyoshi’s way were decimated with little way to prepare themselves.

His eyes finally caught sight of the man moving amongst the crowd of Hellions, accompanied by the near-divine sight of his Shikai. He couldn’t hold back the smirk that played on his face. “Sheeeeesh. The Officers are always so flashy, eh? That’s impressive though, coming from a Vice Captain. Even if he is late.” His eyes continued watching as Arantima waded into the crowd of Hellions with some type of shield that seemed to make him nearly impervious to harm, at least from these lower Hellions. Tsuyoshi lowered his blade slowly back down and to his side, eyes scanning the area as Hellions had already begun filling in, despite the brief deterrence brought on from Arantima’s attack. With Zatoshi and Arantima assisting him in the primary defense of the Northern Gate, it left a lot of room for the other Seated Officers to continue working together to secure various escape routes amongst the crowd.

With the offensive proving to be incredibly promising and several lanes in the Rukongai secured now by Shinigami of various calibers, the initial adrenaline rush of combat had slowed considerably for Tsuyoshi. He clicked his tongue three times, before beginning to talk to no one in particular, aloud. “We’ve made a lot of ground, but it’s already been quite the fight for some of these youngbloods. Fighting off a horde like this isn’t an easy task. We’ve lost quite a few and quite a few are still being tended by Yonbantai. My, my. Tala and Hayato had better get back here soon, we can’t burn resources on this evacuation forever. Fortunately, I’m not really seeing any kind of chal-”

“Haaaa… It’s been far too long… Since I’ve had Shinigami… Let’s see how you lot fare.” The voice, though hushed, waved over the entirety of the Seireitei, and the resulting spiritual energy from whatever had just arisen from the Western Gate did not go unnoticed. Tsuyoshi turned his head in its direction, grinning broadly.

“So they do have something more exciting! They’ve been holding back! Hehhehhahahahaha!” The laughter escaped his lips unbridled and, just like that, Tsuyoshi’s attention was brought right back into the scenario at the thought of having something more exciting eventually making its way to the Northern Gate. “Now, let’s just hope they don’t only have one, eh? I don’t know that I can make it over there given how many bugs there are to squash.” By this point the Hellions had filled in the gaps again and began to threaten the gate’s defense properly. With Zatoshi and Arantima assisting however, it was a matter of getting right back down to business. Tsuyoshi carved effortlessly through the Hellions as they approached, dancing amidst their attacks at a fairly leisurely pace (albeit still difficult for most Shinigami to keep up with).

Chaos ensued at one of the Evacuation Checkpoints. The more ground that the defenders had taken, the harder it was becoming to hold and the more - it seemed - that Hell was fighting back. Like most of the Shinigami at the Northern Gate, two of the 13th Seats, an 8th Seat, a 6th Seat and a particularly confident Unseated Shinigami had been emboldened by the efforts of their comrades and their superiors, pushing forwards despite the looming echo of the Hellwyrm in the distance.

For the most part, things remained comfortably under control. That was, until, the Akki showed up. A black, billowy covering hid a deceptively strong and healthy frame; Porcelain skin accented the fresh blood that stained her limbs and her face and the crimson of her eyes sat in stark contrast to the black discoloration around her eyes. The Akki in front of them was a lean combatant, standing at approximately six feet tall, though her footwear seemed to add anywhere from one to three inches - it was difficult to tell given that her footwear seemed to meld in with her outerwear.

"Pathetic." She spat, staring at the impaled Shinigami at the end of her spear, black in color and jagged at either end. Long fingers gripped it's shaft and with a quick turn of her arms and deft handwork she twirled the incapacitated Shinigami in the air before sending him skidding to a halt in front of his comrades. Her gaze slid from behind midnight black hair from the incapacitated Shinigami to the 13th Seat that rushed to his aid. She reached her hand back, as though to throw her spear forward, when suddenly a bolt of lightning tore through the air and pierced her shoulder, eliciting a howl.

From her back, four bladed limbs, so dark that they were barely visible in even the slightest of shadows, protruded from deep underneath her skin, betraying a carapace-like backside that presumably covered her and offered protection against surprise attacks. One of them was currently keeping the 8th Seat, Aime, in check, forcing her to hide behind the ornate heater shield that functioned as her Shikai. Another had pinned down, or so she thought, the 6th Seat, Ryuu, who was deftly defending against it and somehow had loosed an impressive Byakurai from his free hand.

"Trying to save your friend? Touching, but futile. I expected more, Shinigami." She gripped her spear tightly and rushed forwards with all four of her limbs outstretched and her spear in hand.

"Retreat! Get him out of here! To the Gate!"

Tsuyoshi's eyes caught the sight of five Shinigami fleeing towards him, recognizing them as mostly officers from his squad, and one he didn't recognize - an unseated from one of the other divisions who had come to help. He was being carried over the shoulder by another Shinigami, with a third running after them and visibly wounded. Behind the trio, two more experienced Shinigami were trading blows and rapidly losing ground to an Akki in her Segunda Etapa. Even with their Shikai released, they were steadily losing ground.

He adjusted his body to gain ground towards them, leaving the center primarily to Zatoshi and Arantima while covering their retreat. "Ehh? You're back early, aren't you? You took a rookie with you?"

"Taicho! You have to help them! They-!"

"Yeah, yeah, I see it. Get back behind the gate. Try to avoid the waves of blood and the dragon, eh?"

Tsuyoshi ushered them off and away towards the gate. His pace quickened when he noticed that one of the two remaining Shinigami had the left side of their body wrapped from fingers to torso in a layer of what looked like spider silk, bleeding in between the layers and coating the white material with fresh crimson. The other had already suffered two brutal stab wounds and the Akki herself seemed mildly injured at best. A single Shunpo cut the space between them substantially.

The demonic woman batted one of the Shinigami to the ground, leaving a splatter of blood and causing his comrade to rush over. She stood shakily with her shield held in her one working hand, apparently determined to defend her fellow Officer to the death if she needed to. At this range, Tsuyoshi was unable to make out her exact words, but they were dripping in condescension. She raised all four of her limbs upwards, as well as her spear and thrust all of them towards the final standing Shinigami. She braced herself for deadly impact, but impact never came. Instead, she raised her head over her shield and saw her Captain standing in front of her, blood dripping down onto the ground in front of him, with his scabbard in one hand and his blade in the other.^[1]

"What-? Where'd you-"
"Ehhh? Get out of here, both of you. Get up, run, and don't stop. Jubantai's Vice Captain and one of the academy students are holding the line. Don't get caught up in fighting."
"Y- yes, Taicho!"
"Not so fast, runts!"

The exchange was brief, but this time, Tsuyoshi managed to use both his blade and his scabbard to impressive effect, knocking aside her spear and intercepting three of her limbs with his scabbard in a stunning display. His blade carved upwards and sliced cleanly through one of her bladed limbs, sending a spatter of discolored blood to the ground as Aime and Ryuu took off in an addled sprint. "Yiiaaaaeeeaaaahhhh!" The Akki’s howl echoed as a result of the strike and seemed to distract her long enough for Tsuyoshi to make some distance and backpedal slowly to ensure that his subordinates made it a promising distance towards the gate and at least under Zatoshi or Arantima's range.

Using this extra time, he slid his blade back into its scabbard and moved to affix the scabbard back to his hip. "Those limbs of yours are pretty sharp, eh? And here I thought there wasn't a single one of you that could cut me!" He gestured to his chest, where two puncture wounds had cut through his top, leaving bloody splotches darkening the black fabric. Tsuyoshi, despite the blows, seemed completely unperturbed. "And you've got guts. Trying to attack-"

"Silence, brat!" She reached her arm back and threw her spear full force at Tsuyoshi. It tore through the air and was promptly stopped fractions of an inch away from his chest. "I won't be berated by a street urchin." She flexed her three remaining limbs and glared at him in a clear attempt to intimidate him, visibly working to regain her composure at being so suddenly outmatched, even if she was caught off guard. The mere thought of being bested by any Shinigami made her skin crawl, especially one that looked as roughshod as Tsuyoshi did.

"Hah! Able to make me bleed, angry enough to keep fighting and maybe even fast enough not to bore me! Ah, it's too bad you're from Hell, eh!" He chuckled, grinning and giving his blade a slow turn, shaking off the remnants of blood that stained the blade. She gritted her teeth, outstretching her fingers wide and showing a lethal set of claws on either hand. Tsuyoshi's grin lingered for a few seconds before a scowl set on his face.

For the first time through the course of combat, his spiritual pressure could be felt throughout the battlefield, making a noticeable presence that could easily be felt by anyone in the vicinity of the Northern Gate. It was uneven and poorly controlled, pouring from his body like a faucet that was quickly and haphazardly plugged up with a cork, begging to be let loose in a torrent. It was enough to make the Akki pause in her tracks. "It's too bad… that the worst I could possibly do to you, is send you back in pieces. So much potential, wasted. Try to last long enough for me to break a sweat, eh? It'll be a good warmup for that Wyrm's friends, whenever they get the brass to actually show up."

Tsuyoshi's Uchigatana is a 28in. slightly curved Japanese blade that he primarily wields one-handed. While there is nothing astonishingly impressive about the blade itself, the hilt and guard are fashioned much like a Zanpakuto might be. It sports an oval guard that is securely fastened between the hilt and the blade, and the hilt itself is slightly longer than normal, though Tsuyoshi almost exclusively handles it directly underneath the cross-guard. The hilt is wrapped in a series of interlacing black and white wraps and dangles approximately two inches from the end.

The scabbard for Tsuyoshi's Uchigatana is built specifically for the blade itself and is fashioned in a much older Japanese style than modern swords are. It is constructed to be clipped and worn at the waist, and the scabbard itself is fairly ornate with depictions of dragons and clouds along the front and the back. At the base of the scabbard, closest to the Uchigatana's cross-guard, is the clan insignia for the Minamoto clan, circa 1100 AD.

{Summary}Zatoshi, Arantima, and Tsuyoshi work together with a small number of other higher-seated Shinigami hold the center. The entirety of Sanbantai that isn't injured is working together to create and maintain a foothold to allow for evacuation routes for Rukongai citizens running from the carnage. There were five checkpoints in total, one at either extreme side, one on either side closer to the center, and a final one on the left side, closer to the center than the others. The final checkpoint was overrun by an Akki who attempted to run down what remained of the checkpoint and failed after running into Tsuyoshi. She has engaged Tsuyoshi, but the two of them are close enough to the center that either Zatoshi or Arantima are free to intercept. Feel free to DM me (preferably on discord) if you want an idea of her statline, but her name is Archaeva, she is a Spider-Based Akki with Monstrosity as her Aspect of Death, she is Class 4, Rank 2, Fighter v2 and currently in Segunda Etapa.

[Ishikawa Seiji]

The ground shook like nothing else.

Blood pounded in his ears, and briefly Seiji wondered if his brother had ever experienced anything close to this as he cut down another hellion that sought to lunge at him during his moment of thought. The claws extended failed to reach him and soon the hellion was cleaved in two, most in his immediate path had been turned into nothingness from the blast of fire and for that, he was thankful, even if his gut instinct told him the worst had only just begun. Trembling earth left him very little room to maneuver and glancing over his shoulder, the smiling Shinigami could see a few other unseated individuals having even more trouble than he was. But if they were, then so were many of the hellions and so despite the chaos, he'd press whatever advantage he could. Clearing the foremost few, though he'd noticed Albin heading back into the Seiretei, the younger male was too far to even shout his name. He wouldn't be heard, there was no point, he'd just have to manage on his own.

"So alone, so thoughtless aren't you boy?"

A rustling in the air even as it felt like something was attempting to rip the whole Seiretei apart. Just for a moment, he turned his head to find the source and instead he only found pain, surging from his gut and sending him flying and sprawling into the dirt. Coughing and groaning in agony, vision flickering from the force of the blow, a few others rushed to dispatch the handful of hellions that had rushed ahead of the pack. Thus far things seemed calmer here, it was with a harsh cough that he shifted up onto his knees. Heaving out a breath and waving away one who tried to help, a fellow unseated from the Kido Corps, well he wasn't dead so he was fine. "'M fine, go, get back ta it. Jus' gimme a minute." Words rumbled out as he dragged himself to his feet, wincing at a spark of pain, well that would certainly leave a massive bruise come tomorrow. Hoping he survived that long. It was as he tried to rapidly put himself back together, that a large hellion made itself known in the distance, a fair distance away from their gate. Well shit. He just had to wonder if whoever was over there would survive, and hope that thing didn't end up coming over here to wreck the place. It was bad enough already.

"Why do ya disembodied voices always gotta pick the worst fuckin' times. So what if I am? Kinda busy here." A split-second thought, a note of frustration there as he grabbed for his Zanpakuto, grip tightening. If something like that creature had surged to life, it meant that the weaker hellions out here were likely to become more confident and surge in higher numbers. Or at least, that was the assumption. Yet for the moment things seemed reasonable enough to handle, enough that he could rejoin the fray without risking further injury or being attacked while he'd been laying on the floor in pain for a few moments. Yet that same sound on the breeze caught his attention as another was cut down, not of words, but of laughter. Directed at him most likely, rather than the situation he was currently in. He knew he had heard it before somewhere, he simply couldn't place it, a dismissive and critical tone. Few every used such words with him.

The spray of blood, the pounding of his own heartbeat, the call of another for him to go ahead. To help the move forward onto the front lines, rather than waiting around here. All of them would handle it, and the smiling man doesn't need to be told twice, off without a word more. The thumping of footsteps as he rushed back towards the gate, through the carnage, cutting down anything that got in his path. Most were occupied already, threats and individuals that were far easier targets than him, racing past those who barely sped him a second glance. That was fine, pooling resources was one thing, but remaining in an area that was in hand wouldn't help them. Not when he knew the front lines likely needed far more help than where he had arrived at. Even if the shaking had somewhat subsided now, enough so he could rush through the red soaked streets without falling over, this was far from the end. Hell had launched so many, and he would be a fool to believe that this amassing of forces was the only card they had left to play.

"Even now, you refuse to heed my words and warnings boy, you come here for what purpose? To die once more? How pitiful."

"Keep yer damn mouth shut, ya don't know shit."

"Oh? So you don't wish to gain power, to never return to that place?"

That much, struck a cord, a sudden surge of memory as he slowed to a halt in a ruined unoccupied alleyway. It all came back, the memory from before, the question he'd been asked, the voice was the same Suddenly, he felt rather stupid for not realizing, the heat of battle was one thing but even as the emerald haired Shinigami caught his breath for a moment, he chided himself inward. It was no excuse for not thinking, for just following like one of the pack, he never was and never would be. It seemed, whatever or whoever this voice was, sensed such an understanding, that same laughter from before echoed in his ears. Around him, like she was just behind him, but he knew not to look. No one was there, it was all in his head, a little worrying. But if this was what he thought it might be, then he saw no reason to be overly concerned. Even less so when this being seemed to sense his thoughts, his growing remembrance as to that day.

"Ya were the one askin' that question back then, before Shin..." He did not finish the thought, would not dare to do so. Screams in the distance faded into nothing and for a moment he just stood there. Questioning, waiting. Wondering if what he had seen back then was true, if that had been him, if he had fallen and never even screamed at the rage he'd seen on a face so similar to his own. "Do you have an answer for me then boy? Or are you simply content to wallow in your own self-pity?" That same critical, feminine voice cut through his thoughts on loop. Unfortunately for him, she had a point. Sure, he'd had gotten here, done what had been offered to him over a century ago. Only he was alone, there hadn't been a need to be, but he had been stubborn. Thought it better then join what equated to simply an army for a being that no one ever saw. Who knew the afterlife could be so depressing? In a way it was, but Rukongai had been and always would be about power. Gaining enough to walk the streets without fear, he had done that, but what about those that couldn't?

He couldn't stay stagnant forever.

Plenty of things met their end in this world, the entire Soul Soceity reeked of death, of repeating the soul cycle and sending others into it, like it or not. He might never be as good as Shin, as talented or as exceptional with all of this. But that didn't mean he couldn't try. No one else was going to help him, so why not do it himself, as he always had? Anything had to be better then following the motions as he since leaving the academy, of simply feeling like he was waiting to be slain by a hollow and start the process anew. No, he wanted more than that. Wanted to be more than some brief and inconsequential footnote whenever someone mentioned his fallen sibling. It was this, that gave Seiji the answer he needed. How could he have been so stupid not to see it? The edges of his mouth spreading wide once again as he took off. Out of where he'd momentarily stopped and right back towards the front lines.

"Oh I've got an answer for ya." He murmured as he ran, Zanpakuto drawn once more, a strong breeze blowing past. As if pushing him forward, back to where he should be. The shaking continued but with a creature having surfaced, he hoped that for now they'd be fine. Those here could handle this, they all could. At first all he saw were masses of hellions and a rare few fighting. But the closer he got to the front, the more he witnessed other Shinigami fighting back, defending what was a key point of entry into the Seiretei. Something he should be doing as well. Even if there were lesser than he expected, with a fair few having retreated to behind the walls, that did not mean he was about to start fleeing as they did. Hell no. Instead he advanced and spotted two high above who seemed to be working together, one with shaggy blonde hair. Javelins launched just as he approached, close enough that even after he passed by he could see the surge and sparks of electricity. Best to keep a distance then. Maybe if he was lucky they'd back him up.

In the back of his mind, he swore he could hear low grumbling, impatience from that voice perhaps. He paid it no mind as he cut down a few hellions that approached, ducking under one to slice it in half. Blocking another claw with his Zanpakuto only to slide around it and behead the creature. Finally after he heard the grumbling become louder, a huffing feminine hiss clearly directed at him, did he form his response inwardly. "Ya asked what doesn't die right? Most everythin' does though, even souls, even this lot, even if they ain't gone forever, still looks like dyin' ta me." One cut down, then the next as he carried on forward, pounding footsteps and distant rumbling of terrible beasts all seemed muffled. Drowned out by the wind that seemed to circle him continuously, growing stronger with each step, each sweep of the blade. Back and forth he went, though he did not get far, it did not seem to matter to the emerald haired Shinigami, grinning wildly as he carried on. This wasn't just about wanting power, or to never return to that place weak and afraid, but about survival. And what was more of a testament a person's survival once they were dead and gone? A legacy.

"All things die, 'cept one. A dead man's reputation."

"Not giving up, smart boy. I'll lend you a fraction of my power then, if you survive this, then we can talk."

There was a howl of wind, a sudden gust, like an oncoming storm and a pleased rumbled in the back of his mind as his own reiatsu flared to life. The voice clearer now, an image in the air, that of a girl with bright golden eyes that stared at him for a moment with a pleased smile before she was gone. One that no one else saw as he ran, one after the next they fell. Each inch closer to the front, brought with it more power, faster and all the more chaotic. The pure white aura of reiatsu soon lines his entire body, pulsing and surging with newfound strength just waiting to be unleashed. The unseated Shinigami goes as far as he can, before he sees the Captain nearby, fighting almost single-handedly. Well, it wouldn't hurt to see if he could give the other a hand, even if all he did was clear a brief path through this madness.

"Ne Tezuka-taichou, ya want a hand!? Lookin' a little lonely out here." He called above the crowd, to reach him, to ensure the other listened despite the bombardment he was unleashing and his own wouldn't be that far behind. Zanpakuto for once not used, but sheathed for a brief moment, not suppressing such power. Not by a long shot, but letting it build and gather as the moments passed him by. A particularly bold hellion thought this the perfect time to strike, to rush forward to aim to assault Seiji, to rip his throat out and tear him apart. The creature would not get that far, rushing as it was, the elder soon did the same. Pushing off the ground and speeding forth as fast as he could. A murmur under his breath, only two little words, but that was enough. All he needed.

"Fall, Soyoukaze."

A sudden gust, a drawing of his blade in a singular fluid arc and that hellion seemed to freeze mid run. A second passing before it and many others fell to his blade, extended far beyond a normal reach. A sweeping arc, following his arm as he released in Zanpakuto, ripping apart anything that dared to get in the way of his arcing strike. That same steel retracting and shrinking back, no longer a katana but a wakizashi held in his grip. Flashes of information flooded his senses, of what this power, his Zanpakuto was capable of and he only grinned a little wider. More confident now, surer of his survival. They could do this.

Then, the ground began to shake once more. Shit.

[Rafael]

Striking out at almost everything around him Rafael was starting to feel after a couple of minutes as if he was essentially trudding water. This wasn’t going to get him anywhere and if he was starting to feel this way he knew Zadora more than likely was as well. The swarm of nightmarish things coming at him just seemed endless. Although with each hit he could feel the bodies breaking and watch them soar backwards colliding with others, it didn’t seem enough. It was almost like he was beating back a stream or water from a hose which only meant eventually he was going to tire and get swarmed. His paws covered in blood already he had to make a choice and one quickly,

Between each forward strike whether it be delivered by his fists or feet Rafael was thinking his mind contemplating what was available to him at the speeds of a supercomputer. Reaching two separate actions that he could do at the moment that could alleviate the pressure that was being placed on Zadora and himself. The first wasn’t one that he could logically employ at the moment as it was his trump card and could likely harm Zadora as well. Which left the second option and one he’d start right away by focusing his reiatsu to the front of his chest.

“Zadora duck down.”

Rafael shouts knowing that although her back was nearly pressed up against his own with the number of bodies swarming them it was quite possible she wouldn’t be able to hear his voice otherwise. At the moment it was comparable to say the two Beasts were being targeted inside of a mosh pit and everything was screaming during a concert of thousands. Not the best situation for one with senses as adept as Rafael yet he could still manage for the moment. A second or so after he shouted to his friend Rafael’s fur thrust forward from his chest twirling around itself and taking shape into a large tendril with his face at the front. Over the course of the next few seconds this tendril would circle around Rafael and Zadora biting everything in its path until the both were inside.

“Should have brought Lolth. Doubt even you’d have a problem with the little ones in this situation huh?”

Joking in a stress situation wasn’t something Rafael was known for yet Zadora was his friend and this was the worst situation she’d been in to his knowledge. Stern wouldn’t help her right now, confidence and reassurance were what he’d bet on helping at the moment. He’d give Zadora a chance to breathe while his tendril circled back around in the opposite direction replicating the same action as before in order to both kill the next wave while keeping them at bay as well. That’s when the trembling started and Rafael felt he’d made a mistake by bringing his friend.

The sight of something so large was shattering. He’d never come across something he didn’t believe he had a chance at beating and yet that’s exactly what he saw riding up from the ground and using this entire city as a couch. That thing would take everything he had while working with perhaps the strongest of the Shinigami and even then he had a hard time believing success was even a possibility. So far there still weren’t any Shinigami that he could see near them and even the monsters had stopped moving with the appearance of the calamity.

“Ah so he’s here then.”

Rafael says with a grin while a couple figures of purple the size of buildings rush towards the serpent. The Shinigami in the mask of fair height with a hellish power, at least this time it seemed they’d be working together. “If you see purple liquid or anything that looks like that don’t touch them. Just run in the opposite direction. Zadora . . . If we’re separated I want you to run back home. Get Lolth and find somewhere else far away.” His tail uncoiling from his waist moved behind finding Zadora’s and twirling around her own connecting the two. Now he knew what was going on even if he could see her.

Her claws slashing through the flesh of one of the hell beings that had gotten to close to her. She could feel the slight resistance the flesh of the being had as her claws tore through. Leaving large gaping claw marks going across the hell beings chest. Exposing several different ribs in the diagonal strike she had just delivered. Turning her body slightly to the side, her other arm moved. Swinging up right with claws extended. Bringing her paw down, allowing her claws to yet again dig through the flesh of the hell beings. But this time allowing her slash to go directly across the hell spawns throat. Claws tearing through the flesh, muscle, esophagus and trachea. Blood soaking her white and black fur. Her mostly black eyes stared at the gaping tear she just landed on the hell being.

Her chest heaving as she steps back. Her heart pounding in both her chest and in her ears. Nearly deafening her with how long her own heart beep sounded in her ears. The ears on her head twitching and swiveling constantly. Trying to distinguish the sounds going around her. Briefly hearing the word 'down' being yelled out. She wasn't exactly sure if it was being spoke to her or not. But she dropped her body. Landing on her front paws. Claws digging into the gravel as she lifted her head up. Just to see a black mass swirling around the two of them. Its jaws opening and closing as it bite through the spawns that were surrounding them.

She turning her head slightly to look at him to see that the mass had protruded from his chest. What... that thing was made from Rafael?! Blinking a few times before she felt her spine stiff up from his joke. Even through she was staring to grow close to the spider woman. Her little 'children' still made her fur crawl as she still was afraid of spiders. But she would rather be with the spiders that Lolth had claimed as her children than surrounded by the dead like she was. Oh what she would do to be in that situation at this moment.But here she was terrified and surrounded by hell spawns.

But soon she was distracted from his joke when the ground began to slightly shake. She turned her head down to look at the small pebbles that surrounded her paw, claws still imbedded in the ground. Seeing the pebbles roll around before they started to jump when the shaking become more intense until the shaking turned into a constant tremor. Grow in strength until she was jostled from her spot. Retracting her claws from the ground as she moved to stand up. Changing her stance to a more wide spread stance to accommodate the tremors.

Then the tremors stopped as quickly as they escalated. "Wh..What was that?" She asked as she turned her attention to the hell spawn to see that they had paused in their advancement on them. Moving her attention to Rafael as he started to speak to her. She blinked a few times at his words. What was he going on about? Purple liquid and not to touch it. Then her eyes narrowing as he told her that if they were to be separated to run home. To take Lolth and hide somewhere far. To basically leave him behind. Just when she was about to comment on his words, she seemed to paused as she felt something touch her tail. Wrapping and coiling around the thin appendage. Looking towards her tail to see that Rafael's tail was wrapped around hers.

"Im not leaving you Rafael.."

[Zatoshi Kizukara]

NORTH GATE

Zatoshi's eyes were drawn forwards as his pupils dilated to near pinpricks, the iris of his eyes starting to shine a soft red glow. Adrenaline roared within him as his perception shrunk, the calls of his allies began to reduce to a dull murmur. This feeling of rage welled up within him at such a pace that he didn't have time to even worry that he was spinning out of control. He saw the hordes of hell closing in, the never ending tide washing back into the center. They weren't going to stop. Not unless every single one of them were dead.

Once again Zatoshi's image blurred as he suddenly closed the distance. A thrust of his sword impaled the leading demon through the abdomen, circling passed it and ripping through the side of it's body to spill it's entrails down. He was in close with the horde now, his fist colliding with the very next one's jaw, the triangular metallic teeth covering his knuckles biting deep into bone. The back of his gauntlet exploded forwards, blasting the challenger's head to pieces. A crowd of them were upon him in the center of the horde, and like a blood clot in an artery ever more began to pile into the fight while the flanks squeezed passed.

Even while encircled Zatoshi was maelstrom of rage and violence. A bladed forearm came down at him from two more and his sword smashed into the side of one to force a deflection while he raised his armored forearm to parry the other. Blood from the disemboweled akki corkscrewed up over his shoulder and shot through the one off to his left, penetrating in a line several more behind it. He whipped his sword up from parrying the other and took a leg with the motion, his blade as chipped and weathered as it appeared proving supernaturally sharp, made so by this anger welled inside of him.

Still more piled in. He weaved out of the way of a thrust only for the blood of the fallen to mist together, forming a four foot spear that erupted through the Akki's back. Zatoshi ducked and circled under another slung blade, grabbing the haft of the spear with one hand and cleaved through the side of the attacker's chest as he passed with his sword, wrenching the spear free. A growl left his lips as he whipped the spear forward like a javelin, impaling another through the pelvis. A running pair of steps closed enough for him to stomp the spear the rest of the way through. It ejected and skittered on the ground before abruptly flying back passed Zatoshi's just as an Akki assaulted from behind, impaling through it's chest. A large hason bullied through the crowd just to be annihilated with it and everything behind it for hundreds of meters by a red blast of energy - this wave of crimson even more destructive than the last, cleaving through a row of several houses as it tore through the demons without restraint.

The swarm closed in on him and the blood storming around them surged along the ground to sweep upwards underneath Zatoshi's feet, geysering him upwards into a twist over the front rank. He slung downwards another horrible blast, cleaving a massive gash of bodies and gore into the street before landing with the blood following him in a wave that screamed into a blizzard of knives once more, tearing through bodies mercilessly all across the street. The spear he formed earlier shot from the body it lay impaled in into his off hand. He twirled that haft before trapping it under his arm against his back, turning to face the horde once more as they charged over the viscera of their fallen.

This was it. This was joy, accomplishment, passion, purpose. This was exactly where he belonged.

((A quick bit of OOC to get into why we're down one poster for this round of North Gate: Tala's been MIA for more than a few weeks. They've been skipped.))

For the most part, Arata and Rei were unhindered with the task of transporting the konpaku towards the gate, yet despite everything...Rei could not shake that feeling off. Like something, someone was watching him. More than one person, in fact. Judging from how that spiritual pressure felt, it was...not a friend. Neither were--it felt all the same akin to the hellions that they had been cutting down this whole time. "...This is too risky. Keep moving, I'll try dealing with whomever these may be." If there were any protests, they'd be met with a "GO!"

I know. But compared to one dead student versus several more...

Rei was going to assume the silence was good. Golden, even. He waited till Arata had gone on with the konpaku, before he stepped forth, asauchi in hand as he scanned his surroundings. There was giggling now, hellions no doubt, yet...This was much different than before. It was sort of like being corralled, no real escape when you'd just invite pursuit. Then, and only then did the owners of the pressure felt earlier stepped out. Well, one stepped out from a collapsed home. Another descended.

"Little far from school, aren'tcha?" One of the Sinners spouted, twirling a zweihander as if it weighed far less than it should've. Rei...did not really have a response for that, simply holding his asauchi in a defensive stance while the other of the two simply...stared towards him. As if they recognized him.

"So, this is where you went."

They even sounded familiar, too. Rei did not have much in the way of time to think on why, as the crimson-haired devil practically lunged at Rei, and before he could really respond in kind? Struck him with a sheathed blade, right to the side. It did not just knock him to the ground, it pretty much launched him into the collapsed home's ruins. The other demon found this amusing enough to laugh at. "What, this one 'unworthy' of a quick death? C'mon, Kyo, we're I N V A D I N G! Gotta keep score, us Akki have aspirations unlike you."

Rei's...senses were disoriented. Plus, that strike hurt...far more than it reasonably should have. He swore he heard the name Kyo...As his vision blurred less and less, focus returning to him, he saw the...ronin of sorts turn towards his compatriot, point a hand forward, and fire forth a blast of some sort of flame--the big sword haver promptly jumping away. It was...an odd dynamic to witness.

He called him Kyo...

The odds of what was going through Rei's mind at the moment being correct were, to put things lightly, astronomical to one. For one, the Kyo he knew certainly didn't look like that--beneath the robes the figure wore, there was a lot of scales and spikes protruding. Yet, at the same time...He couldn't dismiss the possibility. He never did saw his brother again after he had died...Faint as those memories now were.

...Hey. Jackass. I'm here. Worry about this later.

Rei Takagi has advanced to Class 7.

The voice was right--as Rei dragged himself to his feet, certain he was bleeding a little worse now, he saw that a small group of other Shinigami had come upon the scene, and had begun to engage the two...Akki, were they? Figured. The student rushed in to join them, steel meeting steel, yet the crimson-mane turned his attention to him once again. "Of course." He hissed, as he finally drew his sword.

Rei was prepared this time. Even if it took him every bit of willpower to clash. It was...arduous. Punishing. At the same time, the chaos around them was only rising. Remember how hellions were mentioned earlier? They saw an opportunity for fresh meat. They sought to take it. "As always. Very well. Go, die to the ceaseless tides of Hell!" A push back. A balled up fist. The whizzing of air. The impact of a fist to flesh. The swing of a sword.

The will to move. The sword did not impact anything. The sword did not cut. Yet everything felt...so...harsh. As if moving was an exertion...

That must be how he 'ticks.' The idea of punishment... The voice mused. Rei grit his teeth, feeling a fire start...kindling, within. This Akki spoke as if he knew him like the back of his hand. That alone was enough to really grind his gears. Yet, it was all part of another reason why this was actually beginning to rile him up. Rei had found himself in a tough spot, along with the three Shinigami that had come.

Two Akki. Seven Hellions of lower class.

Rei Takagi has advanced to class 6. In spite of odds that are by all means, overwhelming to him, and the others. His strength rises--as does his Spiritual Pressure. He rushes the Akki once again, engaging in an exchange of blows that ends in him sustaining more cuts, though he manages to land a few upon the Akki by virtue of the other Shinigami aiding in a coordinated assault. Well, not quite coordinated. Close, though.

It wasn't even a group effort for long given the other one quickly reared his head once more, swinging in a wide cleave for the others while Rei was left to continue getting wailed on by the ronin. He was fairly certain most of the blood on his clothes was his, with a smattering of the Sinner's own. They charged, locking blades again. The Akki was bearing down on Rei, before he let out a yell, his blade igniting with his spiritual pressure--which promptly surged outwards, knocking Rei off-balance as the Akki grabbed him once more, slammed him upon the ground once and HURLED him away.

...The world blurred once again, time seemed to slow as Rei's blood poured down his face. From within?

Rei began to once again, pull himself to his feet as the Akki took a calm stride towards him, the fighting raging on in the back--and chaotic as ever. Neither side really showed any signs of stopping nor backing down. "Got anything else? Or are we done here?" The Akki inquired, stopping a foot or three away from Rei Takagi. He clutched his asauchi close, gritting his teeth as he looked ahead with fervor in his eyes. Fervor that wasn't there before.

Finally, after what appeared to be an eternity of staring between the two denizens of opposing realms, the man spoke. There was a different air to him, now... "Just one, actually. Erode, Dokusesshi!" As if on cue, a fine mist, lavender in color formed around Rei as a violent wind kicked up, his asauchi being enshrouded in that mist as it became a Zanpakuto, finally allowed to run wild. The blade was shorter, but it felt more...correct in his hand.

There was a lot to address here, namely that an academy student that has been beaten to shit and back just acquired and used his release. The Hellions paused. The other Akki paused. The Shinigami paused. Before they promptly proceeded to take advantage of the surprise and start cutting the hellions down PROPERLY. And Rei did too, using renewed vigor to rush the Akki down and deliver a NASTY series of cuts with his Zanpakuto, something that had it's own effects as the crimson-maned Akki had found he was exerting more effort to muster up the Reiatsu to use any techniques.

...The Sinners had to run.

And run they did. Cries that this wasn't over sounded, yet it also sounded as if they had run into -more- Shinigami. What of our four, though? The three Shinigami looked to the student, who looked as if he was running purely on a lot of adrenaline right now. There was a wordless sort of agreement between them--they had to go back to the gate. And thus, they all set off running towards it.

And it was likely that they were going to come upon a scene, alright. Knowing where the gate was was easy--given Captain Minamoto's Spiritual Pressure was like a bonfire amid a field of rice....

Reiatsu Pool: 2000/2400.

After getting the shit beaten out of him, Rei went up several classes using accumulated rewards. Said rewards being 2400 TP. 1500 converted into CTP. 900 into 450 SP. Combined that with the 120 from the classups...Rei has acquired 570 SP. He has also used Shikai immediately for a -200 Reiatsu from his pool. Anyways, moving back to the gate. 

[Kyomei Kuchiki]

East Gate

Kyomei allowed the gate guardian to raise the gate ever so slightly. He suppressed his force aura for a moment, allowing himself to roll under the east gate with his acrobatic mastery. He popped up and flared his Aura, rising off the ground once more so he could get a better view of everything going on. It was a nasty environment, even this close to the gate. Wycliff's Squad 5 was peppering the battlefield with what Kidou they could muster, but it looked like things were haggard at best. In the distance the Squad 6 Captain could see his fellow Shinigami, Wycliff, but only for a moment as suddenly a blizzard rocked the Rukongai.

Sighing, Kyo held up a hand and willed an orb into it of Shakkaho made most powerful with its Aura Pulled out. The temperature in this mile wide field was dropping rapidly, so the Kuchiki formed as much heat as he could without risking burning out his Refocusing device so early. His other hand moved to grab at the Shakkaho, Fusing both another Shakkaho with the Bakudo Kaze Utsuwa. Taking the element of fire out of the second Shakkaho, the Captain drew Heat into his body and locked it there instead of drawing Air into his lungs and locking it there.

He still couldn't see worth jack in this snowstorm, but he could fly at least with his Sho-empowered Force Aura. He rose up into the air and let fly the Shakkaho that he had drawn heat from into the face of the nearest Hellion. It had little burning power as it had been drained, but it was still explosive with strength of reiatsu from one of the strongest spiritual Captains. The head of the Hellion was no more. Drawing his dagger from the scabbard on his hip, Kyomei began to hover around the East Gate, stabbing any Hellion that dared to draw close to his zone of control.

Knowing the Torc would make his energy drain faster, but also knowing that the Senreimon and the Shakonmaku created by it would be empowered to impenetrable levels because of it, the Kuchiki stayed conservative in his spell use. He also was still in the mindset of "Kidou=Pain" and would take some time to get used to the Refocusing device that prevented this pain. Squad 12 was pretty ingenious, he had to hand it to them. So with his dagger in hand, and his heat locked into his body, Kyomei continued to clean up stragglers caught in the Bankai but bold enough to move towards the gates.

Technique Description and Effects (Explain appearance, powers, and effect):

Most techniques, at their core nature, have an element. They model some sort of naturally occurring phenomenon but exhibit the extremes. A burning Cero, a tsunami of a Kidou, etc. Through training, natural gift, and intense study, Kyomei has learned to resonate with the elements of techniques and bring out their inner Aura. When casting a technique, he can increase the reiatsu cost by 25% and stimulate the technique's soul to exude its Aura. This has the following effects:

All techniques with a corporeal form (projectile, barrier, etc.), regardless of element, gain a shimmering field around them. This aura's size is one foot in all directions from the technique and requires 100 ES to sense.

For Bakudo and other defensive/barrier/binding techniques, the aura has the same effects as the technique in question. For example, a Danku's aura would block and a Rikujokoro's aura would bind. Hierro's Aura would block, but would weaken the hierro. The aura is just an extension of the defensive technique.

For Hado and other offensive/projectile techniques, the aura has an effect based on the element. The aura is equivalent to the natural substance being present. A Water aura does little more than extinguish fire and "drown" anyone who doesn't leave the aura to breathe, but a Fire aura can burn a target or start fires if flammable material is present. For projectile techniques without an element, this aura is simply an extension of the technique, like with Bakudo.

Kaze Utsuwa is a Bakudo that doesn't bind an opponent, but rather binds air within one's self. By taking a deep breath inwards and paying the reiatsu cost, a sphere of air is locked into the user's lungs, slowly releasing the necessary oxygen in order to breathe. This can allow the user to survive without oxygen, whether it be submerged in water or held in a head lock or whatever else that would restrict air flow, for five posts of combat at a time. Five extra posts of non-combat can be used up when learned, ten extra posts of non-combat when mastered. When only learned, the lack of the lungs inflating and deflating is shocking enough that the user must concentrate on the Kidou lest it dissipate. When it is mastered, the concentration is no longer necessary as the user is completely used to receiving oxygen in this manner. In order to refresh the technique, the user needs to breathe in again, so if they are still in an oxygen-free environment, then this technique will not be able to be activated in order to save them.

[Nakajima Kimiko]

As the demonic invasion continued to proceed on this one faithful and terrible day, the Shinigami officers that still remained at the top of the eastern Blue Stream Gate watched from above the devastation that has befallen what was once but a peaceful part of Rukongai. Though they were still focused on their task at hand, which was mainly to defend the gate from any demon with the capacity of flight or the ability to use magic ability, they could not help but look down at it all in sorrow. It was very clear to them all that many of the people they knew from these parts had perished in the attack. The strongest denizens were unable to do much against the swarm, and the weakest which believed in the former's capabilities were mercilessly slaughtered not long after, leaving those who were meant to secure the place thereafter grim reminders of their failure to defend them. There were many of them who couldn't help but find themselves staring at the corpses strewn about the city in grim silence. A few even shed tears. Truly, this will be seen as one terrible day to be remembered by the entirety of the Soul Society.

However, amidst this despair, they found themselves looking towards the figures that were directly confronting the horde head-on. Even now, after the great worm rose from the grounds which the White Way Gate was meant to tower over, their eyes remained locked onto their brethren who had been sent to eliminate the beasts on the ground. Three of these officers were able to catch the brunt of their attention. The first was Kyomei Kuchiki, the Captain of the Sixth. Previously only preparing himself to brave the horde behind the gate, it seemed as though he was preparing himself even further to eventually become ready to unleash a powerful attack that would wipe the demons in the areas nearest to the gate. The second of these officers was the Third Seat of the Eleventh, Nakajima Kimiko, who was still battling the fiends on the rooftops. She cut down demon after demon without mercy, reducing them to unrecognizable shreds that would fly from every direction around her position. Terribly bloody, but terribly effective. And then, finally, there was the third officer who had just arrived to the scene, Wycliff Mason, the Captain of the Fifth. The sight of this third figure was enough for many of the ones guarding the top of the gate to feel prompted to steadily start moving away.

The aforementioned Third Seat hadn't noticed the arrival of the other officers. She was simply too busy partaking in her impressive rampage across the rooftops. Well, not too busy. That wasn't the right term. "Focused" was a better way to describe her in this instance. Hell, maybe that was not impactful enough to appropriately put into perspective what was currently at the forefront of her mind. As she moved further and further onward into the fray, cutting down every freak that dared stand in her way, she would eventually come at a point where everything would become automatic. It was as though she had become an automaton of wild violence. Audible information would be ignored, visual information would only partially be taken into account. In the distance, she could hear familiar voices coming from her blades, but her commitment to the elimination of these monsters would prevent her from hearing the. Truly, in this very moment, it was as though everything mattered was the defeat of her enemy, nothing more, nothing less, regardless of how violent it may be. The display of a creature longing for bloodshed, a devil wishing to kill, and the more it went on... the more intimidating it became.

As she moved, the eyes of the damned that she faced became increasingly fearful of what they were facing. It was becoming clearer and clearer to them that this particular officer was no normal officer. Though she was not a being recognized by even the most experienced of them, she possessed a most-brazen will which - when combined with both the speed her body was able to reach in short bursts and the range of her weaponry that somehow kept increasing further and further - caused their very own instincts to ring dozens of alarms within their hellish brains. Each of these alarms told them to flee immediately, to avoid this officer and instead head towards the gate. Unfortunately for them, however, whether they listened to these alarms or not was irrelevant, for every time they would move, she would be near. The worst part about her unmatched speed was that they could not land a single attack on her. Even now, minutes after she arrived, she stood unharmed. It was causing a few of them to almost wish to stand down, with only but the reminder of what awaits them in Hell keeping them from fully committing to the idea.

Kimiko found no regret in what she was doing. If anything, the actions she committed against this invading force felt somewhat relieving. Here on this battlefield, she didn't need to think about her problems or deal with that pesky Zanpakuto spirit that remained within her darker blade. She didn't need to listen to anything he said nor his constant berating about her not being strong enough for some imaginary figure that seemed more mythical than factual. No, here, all she needed to do was head onward into this demonic horde and slash anything that did not wear the typical garbs of the Gotei 13. That's all she needed to. She just needed to enjoy this long and challenging battle against these critters, and not actually question what kind of consequences that may come out of it. Hell, given how pathetically weak they were against her, she didn't even really need to think about getting hurt. Really, she didn't need to think about anything, just slash away in great glee.

In a way, she knew that what she was doing was inherently wrong. It was not normal for someone to enjoy this, let alone find relief in it. Sure, she liked fighting, and sure, she found joy in coming out victorious of a conflict that she has to face head-on; however, that shouldn't mean that she should enjoy this.  She shouldn't find such dark, downright-bestial pleasure from all of this, not when pretty much almost everybody that remained in these districts had been butchered and eaten alive by the demons. Yet, despite this conscience trying desperately to find negatives about this matter, she still enjoyed it nonetheless. She wanted all of this to go further and further, possibly even forever. She wanted to fight these demons without stop, wanted to reduce them to nothing but bloody smithereens. In her monstrous wish for eternal battle, she wanted to prove to them that they are themselves unworthy of standing in front of her, let alone the gate that she was meant to protect. So long as that meant she wouldn't have to return there, wouldn't have to deal with that man again... then that was enough for her.

But then, suddenly, everything turned white.

It happened quickly. In what almost seemed to be akin to an instant, the entire area that surrounded her would be hit with some kind of massive snowstorm. The sky and even the air itself would take on a blinding white color, ridding her and the demons of sight, while the blood-stained rooftops beneath their feet would very quickly be covered in snow. But that wasn't the worst part of it all. What was worse was the sheer cold that then permeated throughout the area, adding ice on top of the snow and freezing anything that was previously susceptible to it. The peacefully-cool temperature of the Soul Society had been literally turned upside down, and needless to say, everybody was thrown off by this. The demons who were used to the fires of Hell felt like they had been moved to the coldest parts of Hell. Meanwhile, Kimiko felt like she had been moved from a pleasant summer day in the middle of Tokyo to the very top of Mt. Everest.

The Third Seat had no idea of what was responsible for this sudden switch in the weather, but regardless of what it was, she immediately wanted to get out of it. There was something about this cold that made her deeply uncomfortable to the point that her instincts were screaming at her to move away from it with any means necessary. Perhaps it was because she wasn't wearing an attire that was really fit for such temperatures, or perhaps it was because of the supernatural nature of the blizzard. Either way, it didn't matter. A few seconds after the blizzard had set in, she would clench her teeth powerfully against one another to resist the brunt of the cold, then vanish from the sight of the demons she was fighting, leaving them behind in this soon-to-be frozen wasteland. She'd move as quickly as possible with the aid of Shunpo, pushing herself as fast in the direction that she believed to be the most fitting. In fact, she did so with such a bestial need to get away from the cold that she stepped forward a total of three times during this process.

Eventually, she did get out. It was much further away from the Blue Stream Gate onto the top of some sort of water tower. As she landed on this tower, she found herself letting out a quiet cry as she looked herself over. Due to how many demons she had cut, much of her body had been covered in the blood of the demons she had slain prior to the blizzard. Well, now that blood was frozen. She was covered in red ice from practically head to toe, and it caused her such discomfort that she eventually felt the frantic need to immediately shake away and wipe the ice off with the hilt of her blades. "What... the hell!" She found herself shouting in frustration as she then turned her gaze towards the stark-white blizzard that was still very much ongoing. Now that she had a proper look at it, it was clearly not natural and was the result of some kind of spell. Noticing this brought anger within her heart. Her moment of enjoyment against the demons had been interrupted, and now she was here, further away from the gate and the demons she was meant to slay. "Coward! If you wanna steal my fight, then at least do it with dignity! Stupid wizard!"

It was childish. Of course it was. However, to have her moment ripped away like that could not be more bothersome. Her pleasure was taken away, her fun squashed. She had thoroughly interrupted, and now she was not only confused, but also covered in icy blood. It was annoying. Although, she had to admit that staying on this tower allowed her a brief moment of respite from the chaos. It allowed her to take a bit of her breath and scout the area to see how bad the invasion was. Turns out, it was still bad. Incredibly so. Even when further away from Seireitei, there were still a shocking amount of demons scattered about the districts of Rukongai. Admittedly, upon seeing the horde, she found relief. There were plenty more of these hell-spawns to eliminate, and thus plenty more battle to enjoy. In fact, it would seem that some of them had already noticed her location and were planning to climb onto the tower. It caused her to grin excitedly.

"Alright then... I guess I can still go on," she would find the urge to mutter underneath her breath before sharply raising her blades by her sides. Their power was steadily increasing, allowing them to become longer and longer as the "inks" surrounded their beings. That was good. With them, she could definitely cut her way through this horde in no time. So, with wild eyes, she would look down towards the bottom of the water tower, then let out yet another war cry before jumping down, ready to face the demons yet again and have them face her in combat.

Technique Description and Effects

A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. As speed is the main point of the technique, the method is best characterized by how fast one can get from Point A to Point B in the least amount of steps. Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Shunpo can move. Those of little skill in the technique or those who haven't used it for an extended amount of time would obviously be out of practice, causing those individuals to be considerably slower. This requires the use of more steps to move the same distance and become tired more easily in a shorter amount of time. A single step magnifies speed for that step by ten times. Shunpo uses fifty Reiatsu per step. This one is automatically learned in the academy. All Shinigami know this when created. This technique does not take up a technique slot.

How to use technique

Focus of Reishi around the feet area and launch off into a single blurring step. It is not unlike teleportation in appearance, but it is simply extremely fast movement. It is often used to gain an edge in a single moment of combat or to dodge incoming attacks.

[Arantima Kawada]

North gate

Arantima is in the air when his dragon begins to fade slightly. He Growls and pumps more  energy into the dragon as it roars out with renewed vigor it Swims through the Hellion horde and vaporises any of the demons that it contacts with. The clawed arms striking out as its wide body carves a swathe through the horde Arantima is riding the dragon atop like a surf board and while he does so he is not simply a passive rider, He holds Two of his projection blades and cuts down several hellions who seek to jump atop the dragon and strike at him, The Wyrm in the sky however.. Is something he could not ignore, however due to the overall size of the creature he could not send himself.. But a dragon against a dragon? Yesss!

Arantima Pointed a blade at the wyrm in the sky and grinned as his Dragon took a sharp upward turn and Rushed at great speed towards it. Arantima Lept off the back of his dragon and landed on the top of a hellions head with a gentle landing before stomping once and crushing the creature with the sheer force he was able to put out with his released body. His dragon spiralled up and up and up, roaring out at the wyrm that by all rights may very well outsize it, but by no means was this Spiritual dragon afraid. it could not die in a way that mattered, and Arantima's command was law. The Dragon would not try and do anything but run straight for the center of the Wyrms chest and try to run the entire length of its body through the great beasts heart.

While Arantima Was on the ground there was a sudden shrieking of joy from the hellions below as they apparently had new prey that had just willingly jumped into the heart of their offensive. The shriek turned from thrilled into panicked as he stomped once on the hellions head and crushed the creature into a flat-ish mess of bones and meat in a pile beneath his feet. "There are two kinds of arrogance. One where you are unequal to the task and one where your dreams are too big. The former is commonplace stupidity… but the latter is a rare species that is difficult to find. And yet here, I find a Puzzling combination of the two!" Arantima's voice is a snarl as his blades fly out from his hands and begin to carve a perimeter around himself. 

He moves very slowly, A third blade being added to the two that were already flying about his body in a space that has essentially been turned into a 120 foot radius evaporation zone.  However a few enterprising Hellions manage to Slip past the blades into the bubble, only to find that inside of this bubble there is a man awaiting them, unarmed, Cross legged and seemingly meditating. The Hellions leap at Arantima only to find that he is faster and stronger than they thought he had any right to be with such a spiritually focused weapon. On more than a few occasions the hellion was caught by a shockwave from a backhand motion and knocked into the whirring evaporation zone to be ginzu'd like fresh stir-fry. 

Arantima is fading swiftly however, as Tenryu is quickly taking over and Tenryu is not so patient of a fighter.  After a few moments of no hellions trying to enter the Evaporation zone Tenryu Growls and leaps up off the ground and has two blades in his hands along with the three hovering behind himself.  He Begins to move through the horde that is now rushing after him with his defences down. They are all swiftly caught in the snapping sweeps and sudden stabs, finding that attacking from behind is just as dangerous as engaging the Vice captain head on as the three blades floating at his back can spring to life and skewer any that get too close.

The golden Dragon that Arantima had sent up towards the dragon roared out as it got ever closer and closer to the Wyrm It was travelling at its full speed to try and race down the wyrm even though it was so far off, It was hurtling through hellions in the air and on the ground as it barreled across the large gap with the beast. This Giant wyrm would know the might of Arantima's own dragon! A Golden beacon flying towards the Horrifying beast showing no fear in the face of hellish horror in the hopes that it spurred other Shinigami forward to try and take this beast on, and if the dragon somehow did not make it or for some reason did not fare well, Arantima himself would move to come for the Wyrm.

And that would be when Tenryu would take full control of Arantima's body and show the rest of them why he was called Heavens Dragon assassin.

Class 2 : Shidai Spiritual Torc



Description: Each of these Necklaces are a Torc style Necklace made of Spiritual steel with Sekki sekki rock at the ends compressed into balls resting against the wearer's clavicles. These Torcs are likewise inscribed with a seal on the back and set with several gems made of crystallized Reaitsu infused blood that sits against the back of the neck. This seal paired with the gems are Connected through Specialized Kido to the Actual gates of the Senreimon, the walls of the Seireitei. Each Gate has the seal inscribed in Reaitsu ink to solidify the connection between the gate and the Torc. The Torcs are Truly their best when in range of the Gate they are attached too, and yet still produce an effect without being in proximity to the gate.



These Torcs create a Shakonmaku around the bearer, this Shakonmkau is small and weaker in scope than the Shakonmaku that protects the Senreimon. The Shakonmaku Barrier Has a Durability equal to the IP of the worn Torc. This Shakonmaku only works against physical things formed of spirit particles, The bodies of Shinigami, Hollow, Arrancar and Sinners. As well as manifestations charged with Reaitsu, Ice shards, Stone projectiles, Metal shards. While Within Range of the Gates the Torc makes the Senreimon and the Shakonmaku created by the Senreimon Impenetrable. However the Gatekeeper must be OUTSIDE of the Shakonmaku for this effect to manifest, while within the Shakonmaku the Torc can not properly charge the Gate and walls.

Arata looked as though he was about to argue with Rei but he knew that with the state he was in, he was much weaker than the Academy student at the moment to be of much use here. It was certainly a sting to his pride as a Shinigami but he knew that it wasn’t what mattered right now, but instead the safety of the konpaku. So, without any further delay, he quickly ushers the konpaku away from the site and back to the inner gates, where they are safely taken away. He then alerts the others that Rei, Tala and Hayato are still out in the Rukongai dealing with demons.

Meanwhile, back with Tala and Hayato it was beginning to get a little more intense. Firstly, Hayato’s battle had gone even further in the officers favor as he drove the stronger hellion back with his water based attacks which seemed to be hitting with enough power and impact to slice into the demon's skin, and cut off its limbs as Tala had noticed before but had started to take note of now of it's offensive power. The hellion was doing its best to put up a fight but it seemed like it had underestimated Hayato at first and was now in a place that it could not get out of yet.

He couldn’t focus on this fight too much however as he still had to deal with eight other demons of his own and he’d already used up one fifth of his reiatsu at the moment, at least as far as he could tell. Still he could tell that something had changed within him, like a part of himself had finally surfaced. As it would turn out, that was exactly what he was experiencing as a warmth flowed through him and began to revitalize him in a way he hadn’t experienced before. He stands straighter and makes his stance stronger as he glares at the demons who’d come and destroy his home.

Several of the demons seemed to be hesitant as they glanced at each other, but three of them didn’t seem to have this hesitation as they charged at Tala. However, Tala is already in front of one of them in a literal flash as he slides his blade cleanly through the neck of the one at the head of this trio. He noticed that compared to earlier, it was much easier to slice these Hellions now as he found little resistance from their skin. He then swings his blade downward diagonally through the torso of the second with equal ease as the first one. The third reaches him before he can transition into the next strike and tries to drive a spiked fist into his face.

Before he even knew it, he was already dodging out of the way with speed and reflexes he didn’t know he had, especially with how tired and beaten down he’d felt earlier. His mind was trying to figure out what was going on at the moment but he quickly snapped back to focus on the battle as the demon reels back and twists to try and drive its spiked knee into his rib cage. Unable to dodge or block with his sword, he simply does the next best thing and quickly strikes it with his arm. To his surprise, this is actually quite more effective than he thought it’d be as the demon’s leg is knocked back rather harshly.

He then makes use of this sudden room and before it can recover, positions his sword downward, with the blade facing up, and drives it through this demon's body. The remaining five Akki were still shocked by this sudden turn in the fight, thinking they had found an easy opponent. Yet now Tala had just dispatched three of them as if it were nothing when he’d previously struggled to take out what must have been the two weakest ones of this group, and could hardly cause a scratch on any of them. Still they did not flee as they just seemed to steel their resolve and rush him, looking to get even. Yet the next several attacks happened in a blur and soon they found themselves losing their consciousness.

For Tala, it was as if everything had slowed down when they rushed at him. They were much slower now and he had quickly found the gaps in their defenses, which he quickly exploited to dispatch those remaining Akki as efficiently as possible. He then returns his attention to the fight between Hayato and the larger Akki and finds that it had somehow managed to regrow its missing limbs and the limbs that had been severed were now assaulting Hayato who was doing everything he could to defend against the sudden counter attack. It seemed like he couldn’t quite do much in the way of handling the limbs despite how strong his Shikai seemed to be.

Tala felt like he should rush in but was at a loss as to what kind of assistance he could be. He couldn't use any kind of healing kido and he was nowhere near as strong as Hayato-san, who was having trouble now even while his Shikai was unleashed. So what could he, a lowly Shinigami who hadn't even learned his Zanpakuto's name yet, hope to do? Sure he felt a little stronger now but there was no way he could do anything as he was now, right?

Stop doubting yourself. The longer you hesitate the more time you lose and the more they'll destroy you. You'll lose your home and loved one's again. They'll take Mica and everyone else here away from you. REMEMBER WHY YOU FIGHT BOY.

Tala hissed as he felt a sudden heat in his hands, and glances down at his Zanpakuto but then blinks and pauses for a moment as he sees a smoldering hand in his and glances up to see the beautiful, elderly woman with molten like skin and fiery hair. She gives him a gentle smile and raises her other hand to point outwards, into the Rukon. He glances over and doesn't immediately notice anything at first but then suddenly, a creeping sensation begins to envelop him as he feels the warmth of all the konpaku around them, waiting in fear for someone to come help them. He also felt the angry heat coming from all the Akki that rampaged throughout the rest of the districts.

Suddenly there's a flash and he finds himself inside a great mausoleum, with a great fire burning at its center. Yet despite this fire burning so fiercely, it seemed as though there were shadows creeping in from all over the great hall, inching closer and closer to the center where the fire resided, almost as if they sought to snuff out the flame. Tala didn't even have a moment to question what this was before he found himself moving forward to the fire. He knew there was something missing here. No, not something...someone. The woman he saw earlier. She was supposed to be protecting these flames...yet where was she? And how did he know this?

As he reaches the center, he shoves his hand into flames and sees that it wasn't actually his own but that of the woman's. The goddess who was in charge of watching over these flames. She turns around and glances at the shadows and sees the doubt and uncertainty that filled them. She closed her eyes as she kept her hands in the flames, letting its warmth fill and wash over here before she opens them again and her eyes are now glowing brightly and she pulls her hand from the flames. Yet as she does this, the flames trail and follow the movements of her hands as she raises them and let's the warmth that she had just obtained wash away the shadows.

Tala, please...have confidence in yourself...don't let your flames die out. Just let me do what I need to do. Tell me what to do. You know what it is, so why do you wait? Why are you doubting our strength? Call on our power boy and let them see. Let me show you how strong you truly are Tala.

Tala raised his Zanpakuto with just his left hand, with the tip pointed up to the sky, and ran his right hand along the side of the blade all the way down to the hilt where he stopped just below his left hand. He then grips the hilt with both hands and turns it to align the blade parallel to the ground. Smoke starts to rise from it as he concentrates his reiatsu on his blade and knows the phrase that he must say, ”Tend to the flames, Hasū.”

Flames erupt from the pommel of the sword, engulfing the entirety of the handle. As the flames blast out from the pommel, reaching about eight feet away from the handle, it begins to solidify and settle down before eventually dying out and leaving behind Tala’s Shikai. The once two foot long katana was replaced by a ten foot long, double bladed staff. The shaft was made of dark, almost burnt looking wood and the three feet long blades formed into an almost spear-like tip. The air around the blades themselves seemed to ripple and shimmer as the heat the blade gave off was intense enough to cause the refraction in the air around it.

As Tala feels his power grow, he watches as Hayato is raising his Zanpakuto to defend against the large Akki yet it seems he hasn’t noticed the two limbs that were about to strike him from behind. Without another thought, Tala disappears from the edge of the roof that had just been the spot of his battle, and reappears right behind Hayato to block the limbs with his staff. The limbs recoil from the sudden block and as they land back on the ground, they suddenly become covered in numerous lacerations and bruises as they contort on the ground as if they had been severely broken. Hayato notices his appearance but it seems that he’s too preoccupied at the moment to say or scold him about remaining behind as he currently wasn’t doing too hot on his own as well.

With the reinforcement of a seemingly much stronger Tala, Hayato put his full focus on using his intense water pressured Zanpakuto to beat the Akki back down, who now seemed just as weak as before, if not weaker as it seems the detached limbs must have drained it’s reiatsu in some way, compared to the eighth seated officer. With the final blow dealt and the Akki sent back to Hell, Hayato turned to see how Tala was handling the detached clawed arm and leg yet he was surprised by the sight before him.

Tala had just finished bisecting the arm through the web of its fingers straight down the middle with a spin of his staff as it had tried to leap at him to drive its claws into Tala’s chest. As the arm fell to the ground and quickly burnt up, the leg flew in and bent itself so the knee spike was aimed at Tala’s gut. Yet this was also too slow and Tala ended up simply leaping back and with a swipe of his staff it seemed as though the leg had suddenly been hit with an explosive of some type as it flew back from the impact of meeting the wave of heat that Tala had sent out.

The leg also burned up in a similar manner to the arm and Tala let out a gentle breath as he planted the staff into the ground and glanced around, taking in the sensation of his Shikai, unsure of how long it would last. Hayato steps next to him and glances at Tala for a moment before clearing his throat, ”We should regroup with the others at the gate…after seeing how things are here, I’m not sure we’ll be able to do much with just us. And if the gate falls then they’ll have nowhere to go and take shelter.” It was hard for Tala to accept, especially since he could feel the warmth of all the konpaku around them even if they were faint and miniscule, but he knew it was true as he could also feel the raging heat of the thousands upon thousands of Akki that were gathering at the gates. He glances up at his senior officer and nods, ”I’m following your lead sir.”

With this confirmation from subordinate to superior, the two take off back towards the direction they came from. They make their way past what looks like the spot of several fights that had taken place and Tala can only pray and hope that he had made the right call in sending Rei and Arata back to the gates. He’d find out soon enough however, as he felt Captain Minamoto’s immense spiritual pressure. This also surprised him in a way as up till now, he had never been able to really sense or differentiate spiritual energy like that before. He was also taken back by just how many Akki there were here at the gates now. It seemed they had their work cut out for them if they intended to make their way back to their Captain. Yet this didn’t stop Hayato and Tala from charging into the horde of demons from their flank, one sending waves highly pressurized water to cut through many at a time while the other used his newfound Shikai to send about three waves of heat that would basically explode on impact, scattering many demons in all different directions and leave them covered in burns. Before they could fully recover, Tala was shifting through the Akki, spinning his staff back and forth to slice and impale them as they tried to get up. He didn’t stray too far from Hayato however, as he still wasn’t completely confident in his abilities as always, especially with his Shikai which he’d never used before.

{Hearth’s Warmth}By controlling and combining the heat that Hestia gives off with his own Reiatsu, Tala is able to launch a wave of intense heat towards his target when he swings his Zanpakuto. It travels at a speed of 300 and all flammable objects will be set aflame. Once it hits its target, it will feel like a small explosive has gone off and leaves second degree burns.

Drawbacks: Cost 100 reiatsu to use. This technique can also be noticed quite easily as it does appear as a heat vapor. As long as someone has a 50 in Instinct or Energy Sensory, they will be able to notice it. The burns can also be pushed through with Heat Tolerance 2.

[Tsuyoshi Minamoto]

Tsuyoshi and Archaeva squared off some twenty or thirty meters away from the direct center of the gate, creating a natural schism as their spiritual energy threatened those within range who weren’t at their level. Even with Archaeva in her Segunda Etapa, however, her spiritual energy was dwarfed by Tsuyoshi’s own, restrained as it was. A toothy, near-maniacal grin sat persistently on Tsuyoshi’s face as he waited, his blade held loosely at his right side and his other hand resting comfortably on his left hip, settled where his Haori met his belt, comfortably secured around his leg. Archaeva’s eyes searched Tsuyoshi’s stance, glaring daggers at the man. Her mood seemed to be more and more agitated by the second. How dare this filth challenge me? Who does he think he is? She shot out a strand of silk from a series of slits in her left arm, which wrapped around her spear and pulled it back to her hands. She flourished her spear briefly in its repossession and flourished it at her side while Tsuyoshi, meanwhile, stood completely unperturbed by her actions.

”Don’t tell me you’ve got cold feet, Hellspawn. You were so keen to attack my subordinates and chase them down. Did you not expect someone stronger the closer you got to the gate? There’s a reason they haven’t been breached yet.” Tsuyoshi spoke confidently, purposefully attempting to goad the Akki on. The movement from the Akki merely proved that the tactic had worked.

”Be silent, worm!” She scowled, bursting forwards with a surprising amount of speed, using a step technique that Tsuyoshi had never seen before. Her movements made a distorted sound when she left the ground, but it wasn’t a sonido, unless Tsuyoshi had forgotten his step techniques. Regardless, his eyes briefly lost sight of her in her initial movements, before noticing her dash to his left side. When she fully appeared, he had managed to turn himself barely in her direction. Steel clattered against steel as she thrust her spear forwards, making contact with Tsuyoshi’s Uchigatana. Once she had come out of the step technique, it was clear that Tsuyoshi was easily matching her speed, though it was unclear if she was giving all she had to give. Sparks flew as their weapons clambered together. Growls came from between her lips while Tsuyoshi merely continued berating her aloud amidst dodging, parrying, and flatly blocking her onslaught in their impressive display.

”Ehhh? What was that you used just now? I’ve never seen anything like it - is that some new trick they only teach Hellions? Or are you actually smart enough to have come up with that one yourself? You know, for a worm, I seem to be holding you off pretty well. You should step it up, before you get - “ He spoke deliberately as he ducked forwards, to one side of her spear swing and angled his body such that one of her remaining legs grazed his chest, stabbing his blade forwards. This time, again, she used that same movement technique to make space. Unfortunately, the damage had been done - a thin line of blood appeared on her torso, to the right of her breast and leaving a thin laceration that seemed to carve across her body. ” - hurt, Hellion.” Tsuyoshi ended the sentence with a smirk, ignoring the new laceration to his own chest, seemingly unperturbed by it.

”Hah! Your insults won’t get you anywhere, and one lucky shot won’t deter me, whelp. Do you know how long I’ve been stuck in that hole? How much hatred I have built up? I won’t be beaten by the likes of you - you disgust me.” As she spoke, the thin bleeding line had seemingly stopped bleeding as her high-speed regeneration kicked in, sealing the wound closed, albeit with a scar to talk about at a later date. ”You can’t even hope to compare to me, Shinigami. But since you’re so eager…” She paused, her spiritual pressure rising around her, easily noticeable by the other combatants if they were paying attention. While two of the chains around her body were already broken and shattered, three remained. The third, however, began to glow with violent and black energy and her form began to twist. A third pair of limbs protruded from her torso and serrated edges of obsidian grew along the lengths of her, now five, remaining protrusions. ”. . . come, meet your death!”

Tsuyoshi watched calmly as she began her transformation into her Tercera Etapa form, tilting his head at the sight of her extra pair of limbs while his eyes scanned her form to see if there were any new threats that he had to worry about. He gave his sword a simple flourish in his dominant hand, eying her carefully. She met his gaze with a bloodthirsty grin, twirling her spear in her hands again. ”Scared, Shinigami? You should be.” She spat the words in his direction, before lurching back and throwing her spear very predictably at him. What he did not predict, however, was the silken web of reiatsu that came directly behind it as he batted it away with his free hand.

The webbing stuck to his left arm, covering it and - impressively - weighing it down. At first it merely felt sluggish to move as he looked at it, appraising it. His attention was caught for just long enough for her to charge him. This time, she fought with her fists and her feet, intertwining her blows with coordinated attacks from her bladed limbs and - for the first time today - she had Tsuyoshi on the back foot as he struggled to dodge the incoming onslaught. Still, no matter how she came at him, he seemed to always manage to barely dodge or parry her attacks, suffering only minor cuts and impacts as he ducked and dodged out of the way. It was only after thirty seconds or so of fighting that he noticed the sharp, stinging sensation in his left arm which caused him to shunpo-step away from her.^[1]

”Ehh?”
”Oh, so you noticed?” She grinned, placing her hands on her hips and eying him. “My webbing does more than simply stick to you, idiot. It’s made from my own spiritual energy. All the while that it’s - “ She was cut off abruptly as Tsuyoshi swung his blade sharply in her direction, lifting dirt and concrete with the resulting shockwave that she only barely noticed as it tore up the ground on its approach. She leapt up and out of the way of the damage, landing about ten meters away from him, glaring daggers in his direction.

”You misunderstood me, eh? I wasn’t asking for you to explain what it did - I know what it does now, Hellspawn. … I’m just wondering what you think this is possibly going to do to slow me down, eh?” He grinned, bringing his Uchigatana up to his arm, tracing a line through the webbing slowly and lifting it free from his skin as his sword almost melted through the technique, not unlike a hot knife through butter. Coated in blood, he rotated his now-free arm around once and decided he would ignore the numerous small lacerations that her technique had made. ”You’ll have to do better than that.”

Description: A rather basic weapon, this katana has a blade about twenty-eight inches in length, and is curved at the end. It is made to be wielded either one- and two-handed with ease.

Tsuyoshi's Uchigatana is a 28in. slightly curved Japanese blade that he primarily wields one-handed. While there is nothing astonishingly impressive about the blade itself, the hilt and guard are fashioned much like a Zanpakuto might be. It sports an oval guard that is securely fastened between the hilt and the blade, and the hilt itself is slightly longer than normal, though Tsuyoshi almost exclusively handles it directly underneath the cross-guard. The hilt is wrapped in a series of interlacing black and white wraps and dangles approximately two inches from the end.

The scabbard for Tsuyoshi's Uchigatana is built specifically for the blade itself and is fashioned in a much older Japanese style than modern swords are. It is constructed to be clipped and worn at the waist, and the scabbard itself is fairly ornate with depictions of dragons and clouds along the front and the back. At the base of the scabbard, closest to the Uchigatana's cross-guard, is the clan insignia for the Minamoto clan, circa 1100 AD.

Erisichthon. A beast renowned through the depths of hell for being insatiable. An insatiable, callous monstrosity with an appetite for anything in sight. A beast standing before Soul Society, blind to the concept of allies, and foes alike. Only there to simply consume. As he sensed the monstrosities created by the Shinigami - gargantuan zombie-spawn poised to strike him down, a slow, almost sadistic chuckle came from the beast. Seems he wasn't worried for what was to come. Only time would tell if that was warranted or not.

Opening his massive mouth, Erisichthon began to forcibly inhale. First, wisps of reiatsu began to resonate from buildings nearby. Wisps quickly turned to streaks of bright light, and eventually grew into more than that. First sucking up reiatsu in the area, not unlike the Hollow technique Gonzui, Erisichthon began to show that what was coming was much more than some simple Hollow technique. As reiatsu began to circle into his mouth, predominantly harvested from the bodies of uncorrupted Hellions and Shinigami alike, dust and debris began to find its way into his mouth as well.

Dust and debris quickly turned to larger scatterings of buildings, to chunks of pavement, to eventually full-sized structures. Buildings, beasts, people, you name it. Anything that didn't possess enough Strength to compare to the Strength of his lungs quickly found itself subject to the immense vacuum now emanating from this monster. A vacuum so wide, that it threatened the structural integrity of the West Gate itself; not enough to pull it from the ground, but enough to cause chunks of the gate to fly into the beast's mouth.

With the same force that brought Erisichthon's mouth open, he instantly slammed it shut, causing a reverberating shockwave through the Rukon streets, decimating the remainder of buildings that hadn't been swallowed whole. In just the span of a few short moments, the area itself had been utterly decimated; a widened cone in front of Erisichthon had been left barren. All that remained was dirt, and life forms that were physically sturdy enough to prevent themselves from being pulled in.

"Give my regards... to the chef..." he bellowed, feeling it appropriate to crack a joke at Soul Society's expense. Around his rocky exterior, Erisichthon's body began to glow a bright red, like lava flowing down the side of a cliff. His once-hidden eyes glowed with the same intensity, as molten rock and liquid began to seep from his maw. Shinigami and Hellion alike that found themselves within ten feet of him began to practically cook; not ignited, but rather boiled from the outside in. The immediate area around him quickly became a hellscape.

{Iron Stomach}
Erisichthon is a rather unique Hellion with a rather simple start to his abilities. Being a monstrosity hellbent on consuming the world around him, Erisichthon possesses a technique known as Iron Stomach. What this does is simple; Iron Stomach allows Erisichthon to consume, and digest any and every material substance that ends up inside of his mouth. Much like the phrase the name of the technique is based off of, once its in his stomach, digested materials cannot do Erisichthon harm. Toxins, contaminants, you name it; Erisichthon's stomach is stronger. Only effects that possess a x3 OS superiority to Erisichthon's own Strength can bypass his Iron Stomach.

{The Most Important Meal of the Day}
Breakfast is largely regarded as the most important meal of the day. Being your first meal, it's where you're supposed to stock up on energy that your body needs to make it. Erisichthon is no different; he needs breakfast just as much as anyone else, to fill his stomach up entirely. That's what this technique is for. Once per Thread, before consuming anything else in said thread, Erisichthon can activate this technique for no cost; if used at any other time, this technique costs 1,000 Reiatsu. When activated, Erisichthon begins to suck up anything and everything in front of him, with a pulling force equal to his Strength, and setting his Stomach Capacity to 100%. Buildings will be torn from the ground, people will fly into his mouth, and absolutely nothing will be safe. Provided they're unable to resist, that is. Those with Strength higher than his own, or Speed 1.5x higher than his Strength care able to keep themselves from flying into his mouth, either through sheer force, or by constant movement. Stepping Techniques can also be used in order to escape, but for this to work, those looking to escape must use all of their available step technique slots for that post to keep themselves from flying in. The Most Important Meal of the Day can only be used once every six posts, and only while Erisichthon's Stomach Capacity is at or below 20%.

Almost forcing himself to a stand after the rampant rumbling beneath his feet, and loud shouting from something, Albin quickly darted his head around the medical bay. Something didn't sit well with him; well, aside from the fact that demons were currently knocking on their front door, threatening to tear everything down. No, something felt worse. Much worse. Looking around the rest of those near him, he softly sighed. He was in better condition than the others; he didn't have the time to sit around and twiddle his thumbs. He needed to be out there, fighting.

Silently cursing his own behavior, Albin made immediate note of Wynne right near him. Stretching his shoulders, he walked over to her with a soft sigh. "I suppose I owe you an explanation," he started, "n' you'll get it if you're willing to walk with me." Assuming she followed him back out toward the battlefields, he continued to survey the area between the makeshift bases they had set up, and the entrance by the gate. They were holding fairly well, that was for sure, but more effort was still going to be necessary in order to deal with all of this.

"So, where to start?" He asked rhetorically, "I don't need to be the one to tell you that Camila had a pretty strong amount of care toward you. I'd like to think that could be pieced together by a good amount of people, all things considered. She saw a fair amount of herself in you, Wynne; you were someone she wanted to protect. To make sure you didn't go through the same fate she did, being cast out by Soul Society like she was. A fate like that isn't fair to anyone."

As they continued to walk, Albin made his way over to one of the spatial reiatsu crystals that had been floating out by the barricade Luca had set up. Gently placing his hand upon the crystal, Albin watched as it cracked and shattered, spraying streams of light in oscillating patterns before seeking, and subsequently being absorbed by his body. "Fact of the matter is, Wynne, she got herself killed trying to make Las Noches a place befit for the two of you to stay safe. When this is all said and done, do some research into the name 'Guujin Karai'. He's a fairly notorious Shinigami traitor. For what he's done, I'm going to take him out of this world. I can only assume you're looking for revenge, too?"

Turning back to the girl, Albin held his hand out. "Camila might've lost her life trying to keep a friend safe, but I'll be damned if the same thing happens to me. I'd be glad to take him down alongside you, if you're willing."
