Date: Winter-ish. Time: Early in the Morning. Location: Hell on Earth.
Winter in Russia was already a miserable time of year, but this year was particularly bad. Vesta and Takara had made it to the Police Base where they prepared for assault from the enemies of this region, but a large snowstorm made it impossible to move in or out of the area, forcing the armies of the Blades and Ghosts to retreat for now. While waiting out the snowstorm that lasted for a full week, the two UE ladies received a rundown on everything that was going on. They had proved themselves, after all, by taking down a Ghost.
Meanwhile, Jak had proven himself to the Blades by destroying his phone and keeping his spiritual energy concealed to let the squad stay hidden and move about the city undetected. They moved out of the shack and into the underground subway system that lead even deeper underground into the main base of the Blades. There, Jak would meet the Queen that he had heard so much about from Asya. The Queen was... not what the man would expect, probably. Wearing the pendant around her neck, she appeared to be a toddler of the age of 3 sitting on a makeshift throne.
The police started by getting a translator for Vesta so that she could understand everything that was being said. The translator from before hadn’t made it into the base and was presumed dead by snowstorm or Ghost, so they managed to find someone who spoke enough Japanese to translate for her. The scrawny man was very fidgety, with a parkinsonian tremor in his right hand. ”Well… let’s begin with what we know about the three factions. You have us, the police, the defenders of what little lives the civilians have around here. We outnumber the Blades and Ghosts, but they overpower us.
The Queen began to instruct Jak as soon as he arrived into her presence. ”It is rare for us Asya to bring an uninitiated to me like this. She must have a lot of trust in you.” While the body was of a toddler, the voice was of a mature woman in the later parts of her life. Very odd, but the people around Jak said nothing of it. They barely looked at her, bowing their heads in reverence and kneeling while she spoke. ”First, before you get any ideas, this is not my true form nor is it my physical form. I am speaking from afar through this image of my reverted self. Before I tell you about us, let me tell you about our enemies.”
”We know very little about the Blades save for they convert only the strongest to their cause and their cause is unknown. They worship their Queen and nothing else. The Ghosts, however, we know all too much about. They seek only to destroy and consume. There are no civilian survivors in towns that they ‘pass through’.”
”The Police want to believe that the bount fiends that call themselves Ghosts are only destructive in nature, but this is not so. The Ghosts are cunning, incorporating the weak into their fold and making them powerful somehow through dark forces. Their inner circle has powers that exceed that of normal Bount. They do more than feed, they create new and powerful Bount. I don’t know how they do this, but I do not like it. They take no prisoners, in that all of their captured are forcibly converted into loyal Bount that are hungry and need to feed.”
”We have been struggling to keep the peace the last few months as these two gangs have raged in this small forgotten part of the country. The equipment that you brought and the second shipment that your boss is sending should really help even the battlefield. The small message we got through the radio static said that the armored convoy has nearly reached us. Somehow your boss got them to go through the snowstorm effectively.”
”The Police aren’t a huge threat to us. They are weak, uncoordinated, and not well led. My people, on the other hand, are led extremely effectively by handpicked commanders that have proven themselves in battle. And the Ghosts are just raw power that completely overwhelm the poorly equipped Police. It’s sad, really, but that’s just life. We have come to this cold wasteland to establish our mission here and we won’t be stopped. Not even by the Ghosts who seek to convert all the civilians and all of my Blades for their purposes.”
”Oh… that knocking must be the convoy…”
The doors of the Police Base opened up to find a series of trucks roll in with large racks of equipment. There was a note for Vesta and Takara as well, from Kazura. ”Get out if you need to. Your report worries me for your safety.” The report that had been given just a few hours before the snow storm knocked out communications was all that the CEO had access to, so he had mustered up as much equipment as he could and a means to get it to the base.
Now briefed by the translator and the head of the Base, Takara and Vesta would be given a mission, if they chose to accept it. ”Once this storm ends, we are going to be hit hard by Ghosts. And possibly Blades too. You two have proven yourselves, so we need you both to lead a fireteam to help defend the Base. If we fall, then this region falls. If this region falls… I don’t know what will happen to the world.” Takara and Vesta would have the opportunity to organize their fireteam with three police officers, each wielding either a sniper rifle, a submachine gun, or two pistols.
Meanwhile, Jak had just been brought up to speed as well on the conditions in this small part of Russia. ”We know nothing of your physical prowess, so if you want to continue to follow us around then we’ll need to test you first. If you agree, you’ll fight with one of my Dull. They have been initiated into my teachings and wish to gain a Blade of their own and become known as a Sharp. I only grant Blades to those who have proven themselves. So, what do you say?”
