“Ugh can’t we be sent somewhere with actual excitement?”
“Come now this is our post, we’re here to protect as all shinigami should.”
“My lord you never stop with the blind belief. We’re at this crappy Rukon District with criminals and weaklings. We should be storming an enemy base instead of wasting our time here.”
“We’re here because there have been so many attacks recently. They need us in case it happens again.”
“Attacks! From beasts! They’re mindless vermin that I doubt even exist, let alone could challenge the might of a true shinigami like myself.”
“Jeez you just never stop.”
The duo wasn’t aware though that only a few minutes away were those very same Beasts that had attacked months ago.
1 Hour Later
The sound of a little girl crying as she ran through the street as much of the district had been toppled over. What was going to happen to the thousands of souls running for their lives now from an unknown amount of Beasts that sought to destroy everything in their way? Would the shinigami step up, would they be enough to save everyone?
Wycliff looked over the documents that squad twelve had sent him in regards to hollow reiatsu and the effective methods that they had come up with repelling it. Wycliff had asked them to give him two different copies, one which had simplified terms that he could understand and another that was unedited. While he wasn’t a genius when it came to scientific terms he wasn’t an idiot, he just didn’t get all the technical jargon right away. Still these notes did give him a good idea as to what repelled hollow reiatsu and the way things interacted with it. This was the first step in being able to create what he assumed would be the final kido.
His reading was interrupted by a loud bang, looking up Wycliff saw that someone had dropped a metal spike onto one of the rails causing the two metals to clash creating that loud sound. He let out a sigh as he looked out at the damaged rukongai, it wasn’t that long after the hell invasion and the rukongai was rebuilding. Luckily for him the idea of having an active railway system in the rukongai to deliver supplies easier was seen as a priority and was being pushed forward as they rebuilt. He had been worried that his personal project to rebuild the rukongai would be pushed back, but instead it was being pushed forward.
While progress was being made while he watched over there was a hell butterfly coming to drag him away. The butterfly told him about the situation going on in the outer rings of the rukongai. Without thinking too much about it Wycliff took off heading towards where the attack was being done. Releasing shikai as he made his way towards the outer area. His speed and spiritual pressure rising right away as he ran their hoping to save whatever lives still remained.

The newly minted Captain returned to a place that had very nearly killed him, earlier on in his life. The Roaches were a relentless hoard of beings, little better than the animals they were modeled after. Connor stepped through the town under siege, as a child ran past him. He could still remember the group he had joined with, sent to investigate the mass gathering of these invaders. These bugs in particular were a loathsome bunch, as they were intelligent enough to plan and attack in massive groups, while uncaring of the fact they were killing and consuming intelligent life.
In many ways, these beings were worse than hollows, both on a moral standpoint, and being forced to deal with them. There were so many people screaming now, he could hear the people fleeing from the untamed Wilds. It was a testament to the sheer tenacity of humanity that the Rukongai had spread out so close to the titanic jungle that surrounded them. It was only natural that the Wilds would fight back against them, and yet that was still something the Soul Society could not accept. Connor was now running, sprinting towards the source of the commotion.
Connor was here because he had gotten wind from those Soul Reapers he had posted in the various districts, that there were many sightings of the Roaches along the trees. Watching the town with the lifeless orbs they had for eyes. Connor had decided to investigate for himself, and hoped that it would be false. Connor had sent a note of what was happening to the other Captains, just in case. Maybe Celes would join him, for some reason she wanted to fight him, and he could not tell why, but if the sightings were true, a competition to fight the bugs might appease whatever it was she had in mind.

Invasion. Desolation. Horror. All of these words served to describe the past few years in Soul Society. The Rukongai served as the battleground for countless malevolent forces to leave their mark upon Soul Society. The invasion orchestrated by lords of hell... the transformation of Rukongai citizens into lumbering corpses... the invasion by Kuroi described to her by Senshi; these incidents seemed to become more and more frequent. Celes' division stood as the shield of Soul Society. If a threat arose, the Tenth would meet it head on. She took pride in her position. At the same time, it reminded her of her failures. The Hell invasion had claimed a number of her officers' lives. She felt responsible for their safety. It was for this reason that she'd find herself among the outer districts of the Rukongai.
Since the invasion by Orobas and Alastor, Celes had begun to assign more detachments to various districts in the Rukongai. The civilian districts, which made up a significant part of Soul Society, were some of the most vulnerable points within the Shinigami realm. The citizens were largely defenseless against significant spiritual threats. Even the occasional Hollow incursion from the unexplored Wilderness could have grave consequences for the souls who happened to find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. The protection of the people she had sworn to protect wasn't the only reason. Celes had asked the members of the Tenth to help with relief efforts. After all, the districts suffered much more collateral than the Seireitei ever sustained.
Celes oversaw the efforts of her Division personally by joining them out in the field. She preferred to play a more personal role rather than merely sitting in her office and barking out orders. It helped boost the morale of many of her underlings. The Captain wanted to show that she'd never ask anything that she herself was not prepared to do. Though she took on a largely administrative role, she'd help out where she could. Clearing of debris, disposing of the bodies that littered the street or even just being a shoulder to lean on. The people of the Rukongai had it rough, especially in the districts that resided farther away from the Seireitei, but Celes would do her best to show them that there were those among the Seireitei that had their best interests in mind.
As she continued to walk through the battle-scarred district, a familiar little critter came to greet her. Jigokuchō, more commonly known as Hell Butterflies, were Soul Societies' primary way of issuing orders. The blackened insect fluttered before Celes for a moment until the green-haired Shinigami stuck her finger out and allowed it to land. The jigokuchō attuned its reiryoku to Celes' own. Celes tilted her head for a moment. "A note from Connor Greaves huh?" She knew the name well. One of the newest Captains to join Seireitei and someone who Celes had a bit of personal history with. A spar of theirs had gotten out of hand, but ever since then, Celes had been itching for a rematch. Connor blooming into a Captain didn't suprise Celes all too much. He was a little lazy, but he certainly possessed the strength worthy of a Captain.
After her bit of reminiscing, the Shinigami turned her attention back to the blackened butterfly. It began to convey the message that Connor had sent to the Captains. At first, Celes remained calm, but soon her eyes would widen. She gritted her teeth. "Another attack? Give these poor people a goddamn break!" She sighed and turned into the rest of the message. "75th District of the South Rukongai?" Celes reasoned that Connor was on his way there already. He tried to rally some forces in response to this threat. Thankfully, Celes was pretty far out into the Rukongai anyway. She lightly flicked her finger, allowing the jigokuchō to fly off. She took a deep breath before suddenly vanishing from sight. She was sick and tired of these attacks upon the people she had sworn to protect. She was going to do her best to get there as fast as possible to assess the threat. Hopefully there wouldn't be too much carnage by the time she got there...
Streets littered with appendages, puddles of blood while the shacks these people called homes were splattered enough that many would call it art. A scene ripped right out from a horror flick awaited the Captains as each of them arrived. Connor, the first one on the scene, would see the little girl running down the street too frantic to clear her vision from the tears that streamed down her cheeks. While he was coming to a familiar scene, she was fleeing from the worst experience of her life. The sounds of more and more screams spread out over the District, this one in the south looked like many of the others with one exception, a lake on the left side coming from Seireitei. The district was built along the edge of the lake giving the citizens easy access to water unlike so many other districts yet it couldn’t be built around much of the lake limited only to its right side as steep hills covered in thick vegetation and stones took up residence on every other edge.
Two miles in width from the edge of the lake to the outskirts of the district, five miles in length from when the shakes begin to the last one. This was the size of the Seventy Five living area and the current target of the Infestation. The Captains would have to save as many citizens still alive, a dwindling number by the second while hopefully coming to a conclusion; why were the Roaches back! Seireitei had captured some to study, finding they weren’t much different than other Beasts physically yet they possessed very little in terms of individuality. Once they’d been captured though the attacks stopped, sightings of the Roaches hadn’t come up in the last two years. So why were they suddenly back again!
The splintering of wood, loud almost explosion of matter as a roach slams through the shack on the right side of Connor, sections of the wood flying into the street as the Roach stares down the little girl who’d just run past Connor. Chasing after the little creature this roach was going to crush her fragile little body before it spots the Shinigami and goes into full gear rushing him with an forward punch positioned to hit him right in the mask with the Roach’s full force.
Wycliff and Celes would both arrive in the District although not together it seemed, half a mile away from one another. The Captains in fact almost positioned themselves as a barrack to keep the Roaches from getting past them to prevent entrance to the Seventy Fourth District. Wycliff would spot a Roach walking out from a close alleyway holding the head of a woman in its massive right hand. Covered in blood yet no indication if she were deceased yet while she was being dragged the Roach would notice Wycliff. As for Celes, the Captain of Defense would find a Roach herself squatting on the ground punching the corpse of a Shinigami who likely had only just fallen before her arrival.
Wycliff would see countless puddles of blood and flames start to engulf the rukongai. While he wanted to be mad about all of this he just couldn’t bring himself to have the rage burn inside of him. He had to be calm and collected about the whole thing. He wasn’t allowed to get angry as he knew exactly what his anger could do to his own powers. His own inner hate and anger had turned something that could have been used to save others into a weapon of death and destruction. Too many had been hurt by his own power now he had to make up for that and help those around him.
As he ran past an alley way he saw one of the causes of this disaster, a large roach like being. While he hadn’t been part of the first wave of defense against these beings he had heard rumors of what these things had done. It was as he saw the head of a woman in the hands of this beat’s hands that he acted. Without even given a second thought he used Shumpo to speed past the roach carrying the head. His blade extended outwards right at where the head of the roach would have been. If everything went smoothly the head of the beast would go flying off and allowing him to check to see if the woman was still alive. -50 for shumpo 2/16 shikai posts (SpPr and speed boosted back up) 1/2 posts for next stat 11,650/12,000

Arriving on the scene, Celes would be horrified. The very edges of the Rukongai were feral environments. Her Division had spent enough time there while offering aid after the invasion by Hell itself. It was not unlike Las Noches in some ways. Public order had effectively broken down almost entirely. Stealing and murder were not necessarily uncommon. Yet, at the same time, Celes understood their situations. While this did not absolve some of them, Celes knew that they were victims of their environment. People dealt an unfair hand.
Adding to the general chaos, however, were the Roaches. Before Celes was one of these beings. They were almost alien in appearance. Their skin had an almost copper-like sheen to them. Short brown fur surrounded most of their body. A pair of antennae sprouted from their head. The most notable feature of them were their eyes. They had wide-pitch black irises. "What the hell is that thing?" The Shinigami had never come across these creatures before. They did not seem to be undead like the zombie outbreak that occurred a while back.
Celes' eyes drifted towards the roaches' bloodied fists. Beneath it was the corpse of a Shinigami. Practically battered, the corpse had been flattered after several harsh beatings by the Roach. Celes quivered for a moment. It was likely to be one of her own. After all, she had began to expand the Tenth Division's duties to encompass far more of the Rukongai. Her blood was white-hot with rage as her fingers briefly touched the hilt of her Zanpakutō. It was time to exterminate this pest!
Dashing forward at a speed of nearly 900, Celes cleared her mind. For a moment, everything around her became as black as night. Everything besides the creature before her. Focusing on the it, the Captain drew her blade. In a display of impressive speed and technique, Celes slashed at the Roach's head, her blade soaring through the air at 2000 speed. She had a singular goal. To decapitate this creature and end its life before it even knew what happened. If Celes was successful, she'd sheath her Zanpakutō nearly as quickly as she had drawn it. She'd then kick its hopefully lifeless corpse off the Shinigami.
After a brief glance at the Shinigami's marred body, Celes looked away with a wince. They had been beaten to a pulp. The Captain would have to be sure to help bury the dead. After all, she believed it her duty to see of her own men. However, that time was neither here nor now. Needless to say, the girl was furious. She'd allow her reiryoku to flare briefly before calling out to the fleeing men, women and children. "Fall back! Run for the Lower Districts!" Celes voice radiated with authority and her flaring energy hopefully gave them the idea to follow her orders.
Usable By (Technique is available to which races?): Any
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects (Explain appearance, powers, and effect): The user of this technique draws their sword and strikes with one fluid, lightning-fast motion. This technique can easily catch an unprepared opponent off-guard. This attack is made at 2x the user's Speed, or at a speed of 600 (whichever is faster). Due to the sudden nature of this attack, characters with less than 200 Instinct are caught completely flat-footed and unable to react to this attack, unless they meet one of the alternative requirements (see drawbacks below).
Except where noted, this is otherwise an ordinary melee strike and has no reiatsu cost. Proficiency with this technique allows the user to immediately sheathe their weapon after making their attack.
Mastery of this technique allows for it to be combined with Shunpo to draw, strike, and sheathe the weapon in the blink of an eye. This variant costs 50 reiatsu to perform, and gains the benefits of a 3x Speed Boost (instead of the usual 2x). This variant is imperceptible to characters with less than 200 Senses. Characters with 200+ Senses detect a blur of movement from the user but may not be able to react to the attack unless they have 200+ Instinct and/or one of the benefits listed in drawbacks below.
How to use technique (How is it activated?): Simply draw your weapon and strike in a single fluid motion.
Technique Drawbacks (Limitations, repercussions for use, etc) This technique rarely works more than once per thread, as any opponent who witnesses this technique being used can react to it normally (regardless of Instinct). Even against aware opponents, this attack retains its speed however and should not be underestimated.
In addition, characters who know this technique or have Battle Analysis of 2 (or above) can easily identify the ready stances used in this technique and predict the user's intent. Such characters are never caught off-guard by this attack but will still need to react to its incredible speed.
This technique can only be used with a sheathed sword. In order to use this technique more than once during a single thread, the user must sheathe their weapon prior to using this technique again. This technique requires 2 SKP in Weapons (Sword) in order to be used, and 3 SKP to be mastered.
