Their combined assault was more than effective, leaving the hydra withdrawing as not one, but two of its heads were quickly slain. The last retreated, yet still took a beating from Wycliff’s last Kido, one that Zeich could barely detect with his limited ability to sense energy. The explosion of energy was enough for the Vizard to raise his evaluation of the Captain very slightly, given its potency. He certainly possessed the talent for his position, Zeich conceded, though he lacked the attitude to go with the aptitude. At least Wycliff’s efforts were effective, giving them a better opportunity to advance past the serpentine obstacle.
The surprise came, however, when a new head rose from the crevice, one whose size and features marked it as different from the others somehow. With Haiiro so distant, Zeich could make out few specifics, only that it was simply “different”; his lack of sight left him at a disadvantage here. He prepared to renew his attack’s ferocity, ripping apart the hydra’s insides before the new head could strike at them, his willpower focused and preparing to turn his ashen blades into a hail of death within the creature’s innards.
"Outsiderrssss.... we have underestimated you-- GRRAAAAHHH!" Zeich’s eyes narrowed behind his mask as the creature spoke, yet this time he lacked surprise; given the ability of the other heads to communicate, it was no surprise that this one could do the same. More surprising was the request that came after, a surrender that came with the concession to the combat ability of the visitors. "--Masked one. Abate your attack and we shall leave you be... And we will warn you of the threats to come on your journey into Erebus!"
Zeich considered; the creature offered surrender should he cease his attack, along with the promise of information. Yet he had no grounds on which to prove the truthfulness of the hydra’s statement; if he halted his attack, the creature could simply strike in the lapse of threat. On the other hand, it was obvious by the monster’s voice that it was in no small amount of pain, indicating the success of the Vizard’s internal attack; perhaps it truly was beginning to succumb to the pain, and was offering some form of succor in order to try and convince him to halt and spare the creature considerable agony. Perhaps its words were able to be trusted… to an extent.
“Very well.” It was the first time that Zeich had spoken in the presence of the others, and they would find his tone neutral, nearly monotone, no hint of emotion or inflection audible in his words. Even in the heat of battle, and in a potential position of triumph, he kept at an exceptional level of calm. With a simple mental command, his attack ceased, and the blades within the hydra dispersed into ash again. Yet the Zanpaktou’s substance remained within the monster’s body, ready to materialize into bladed death once more. “Speak your part, and spare no detail. But know that if I detect any sign of threat, I will react accordingly.”
“Are we clear?”
