Wycliff had only taken a few steps back as the voice boomed out again and the very first thing it said confirmed for Wycliff that this thing was indeed a demon. Making a mention that they couldn’t handle the voice of a thousand demons. That all but sealed what Wycliff was going to do, get the fuck out of there and have this place nuked with kido from above. No need to waste time, energy and lives dealing with whatever demonic entity this was and whatever it wanted. It was the logical and rational choice to do so, none of this was to do with the fact that Wycliff just didn’t want to deal with a crappy horror movie come to life, nope not at all.
With his mind made up Wycliff took another step backwards when the voice continued speaking, making mention of others that had come that way and that they had the mentality of gods of death. Which brought to mind that he was talking about other shingami, or at the very least individuals that assumed the same role. The only thing that gave him pause from leaving was when the voice stated that the others while they had crossed the river Styx they could still return to the world above. Shit….. I thought the others were either dead or…. damn it. I can’t leave them there…. Wycliff bit on his inner lip as he started to debate if he should keep going.
As he contemplated he heard another voice from behind speak and announce that they would be walking in. In the darkness Wycliff couldn’t see who it was but the name and their rank was given, it seemed to be the squad 12 vice captain that was going into the darkness. Damn it he thought as that meant that the decision was no longer in his own hands. While he was a captain and didn’t have to follow Ken'ichi into the obvious trap he wasn’t about to let an ally just wander in alone if he could help it. Tho later on he would give a mouthful to Ken'ichi about accepting shady offers from people in the dark, it’s almost as bad as falling for the old candy in the back of a van trick.
Letting out a heavy sigh he started out into the purple flame that was barely illuminating the back of the cave he spoke. “Ya better keep ya word. Name’s Wycliff capt’n of squad five.” Wycliff really didn’t want to go deeper into this without a better idea of what he was getting into, but it seemed that, that ship had sailed. He started walking towards the abyss and deeper into the darkness all the while trying to figure out why the sentence about them crossing the Styx was bothering him so much, there was just something about it that was off.
