Each of Zeich’s attacks found purchase, and all three of the sirens were skewered on his blades. Though the attacks weren’t as devastating as he had aimed for, it bothered the Vizard little; his strike had forced them to move, and had displayed their inability to avoid it. Further, they had revealed their capabilities of flight, which in other circumstances would be an interesting note to Zeich: flight opened up options and maneuvers that could make combat tricky. However, the brief clash between Vizard and sirens had revealed all that the former Shinigami needed to know, his skill in analyzing combat allowing him to break down the situation and determine the general abilities of his foes. And these abilities were quite weak, to his understanding. Indeed, he didn’t even need his Zanpaktou, dissolving the weapons and calling the ash back to him to shroud his body within his clothing.
It didn’t matter that the creatures flew into the air. It didn’t matter that they could attack from a range, that their bladed feathers were as sharp as knives. Even their seductive song meant little, now that it had stopped. Zeich’s sharp ears, Haiiro’s eyes, and the Vizard’s keen intellect all worked together to paint the picture, to place everything. There was one, striking down directly. There was another that kept out of range, but within sight. The last was so high up that Haiiro could no longer spot it, but continued to bombard them. Each element was placed into its appropriate position, and in a swift, calculated moment, Zeich knew what he would do, projecting the thought to Haiiro.
“Ah, I’d brace yourselves, if I were you!”
Haiiro’s words would allow only seconds of reaction time for both Ken’ichi and Wycliff, just enough time to secure their footing before things got serious. In an instant, the air felt incredibly thick, so charged with spiritual energy that it was almost completely tangible. Ripples started to spread out from the boat as that energy grew more and more dense, as though some giant hand were pushing down upon the river’s surface. That pressure grew more intense by the moment, at first just a tingling push that bore nothing upon the two Shinigami, but quickly becoming more and more unmanageable. Soon it would be enough to threaten to knock the air out of their lungs, the swelling sensation of sheer pressure growing to intense levels as the moments passed.
This was Zeich’s Gravitational Pressure, the slow release of his power. It took no Reiatsu, merely a relaxation of the safeguards and bindings on his spiritual energy. It had started as a slow trickle, a warning of what was to come, a pressure that built like a mounting wave. And as it grew, so did its effects; its initial release would affect mostly lower-seated officers, or maybe a third seat at best, and its power had shown itself in the light waves atop the water. As it had grown, however, it soon reached a point that the average Vice-Captain might have been bowed, or even brought to their knees. By now the water was churning, waves being pushed outwards, enough that the boat itself might sink slightly further beneath the surface. And then it reached a new level, one that the two Shinigami might not have been prepared for, a power strong enough that even a Captain might struggle to stay on their feet.
The sirens, of course, would be susceptible early given their weaker nature. Even if the first wave was not quite enough to stop them, the second would likely be enough to make them plummet from the sky. Whether they fell to the rocks or into the river made no difference, as the Gravitational Pressure would drag them down and crush them mercilessly. If the one diving crashed onto the boat, it would still fall to Ken’ichi’s strikes, though the same attacks might find themselves tearing through a smashed corpse rather than a living siren. This, of course, would also be dependent on Ken’ichi’s ability to remain standing as well, given the intense gravity that was bearing down on him and Wycliff just as it was the enemies that fought them.
The pressure would stop short of its absolute peak in strength, but it did not immediately cease, even after the sirens were brought to earth; that pressure would remain, a pressing force that would require the two Shinigami to actively struggle against it or else be simply pinned down where they were. Only Zeich and Haiiro—and perhaps Charon, who knew how this emissary would be effected?—would remain unbowed, the former maintaining his seat while the latter simply let his vision rotate, taking in the effects of the Vizard’s Gravitational Pressure, to see who could keep to their feet. In a way, it served to judge the strength of the two Shinigami.
After about thirty seconds, the pressure finally eased, and Zeich replaced his internal restrictions, putting the safeguards back on his spiritual power. The air felt thin again, and the sense of downward force simply ceased to be. Wycliff and Ken’ichi were allowed to stand, should they choose to do so, and consider what had just been shown to them. This man that accompanied them was no quiet shade on his way to his destination; he was a silent reaper, one whose very presence could serve as a threat to those who were not prepared to handle it. Whether this made the two more wary of the Vizard, or relieved them that they were not the man’s enemies, one thing was for sure: Zeich was not one to be crossed lightly.
As the two recovered, Haiiro loudly cleared his throat with deliberate theatrics before raising his voice to the others. “Ah, a message for you two, if you don’t mind.” The wolf playfully took on a deep, gruff tone that was almost like a growl for him. “‘There’s no use in wasting your Reiatsu, not against creatures like these. Be mindful of wasting your resources so early into a mission!’ Annnnnnnd that’s it. Carry on, as you were, all that good stuff.” While Zeich would not have been so loquacious in his own speech, Haiiro had passed along exactly what the Vizard would have otherwise said: save your resources for when they are actually needed. While he wasn’t working specifically with them, he’d prefer they’d not be dead weight if they actually became necessary.
((OOC: For clarity – Zeich started with a Gravitational Pressure held back to Class 4, then slowly worked himself all the way up to Class 0 Gravitational Pressure, though he would have held the latter back enough to not crush his companions if it would effect them enough to actually do more than bring them to their knees.))
