Incursion of the Citadel (DP-Hard)

[Lucien Dantes]

The Hollow had made one critical, and grave error. Not that it could have known the error it had just made, since Lucien's Firing Property was unknown to it. But an error all the same. What the Hollow couldn't have known, unless it had possessed an extremely high aptitude for sensing reiatsu, was that each of the arrows Lucien had just fired had left an invisible trail in the air. These trails would last several hours afterward unless Lucien consciously dispelled them, even if he deactivated his firing property. The trails purpose might have initially seemed uncertain. They didn't trigger an alarm or harm anything that passed through them, and they didn't disperse when you walked through them either. So what did they do?

The Hollow would learn that momentarily, as he dodged. Two more arrows, each of Class 2, would appear right out of thin air, right beside him as he tried to evade the first two. Lucien didn't have to fire his Class four arrow at all. There wouldn't be time to avoid, or even to enter his Gargantua if the Hollow wasn't expecting them, as the arrows generated and fired less than a foot from the Hollow. If the Hollow had been anticipating being able to barely avoid Lucien's main arrow then there would definitely be no time to avoid these two, as the two arrows would sink into the Hollow's chest, followed by both arrows detonating in an explosion that would likely take off most of the Hollow's upper body, and possibly even leave nothing left above the beast's stomach.

If by some miracle the Hollow evaded this surprise attack, the arrows would continue on towards the frozen waterfall, and explode there instead, removing large portions of the wall. If the Hollow kept to its plan, Lucien would release his held Class 4 arrow directly at the wall of ice, piercing straight towards the Gargantua. With Lucien's own formidable spiritual power, a mere wall of ice was unlikely to prevent his arrow punching right through it like it was made of cardboard. Whether the Hollow left its Gargantua or not, the arrow would pierce through the creature as it emerged and then explode on the Hollow itself. Since Lucien's firing property was still active, all three of these arrows would create the same invisible trails that Lucien would be able to fire future arrows from. If the Hollow opted not to emerge from the Gargantua, then Lucien's arrow would simply enter it, and leave the same path through. Poor creature. Lucien briefly thought.

At any rate, Lucien noticed the elevator and walked at a brisk pace towards it. The ice wall was of little consequence to Lucien, as the Hollow would have doubtlessly become aware. If he desired, Lucien would be able to turn the wall itself against the Hollow. Of course, if the Hollow was dead, that was a moot point anyways, but even assuming it survived the three arrows, Lucien would draw it in by showing his absolute lack of concern for the wall of ice it was launching towards him, by simply walking towards the elevator as though the Hollow were of zero concern to him. The wall wasn't closing in very quickly anyways, and it would only take a blow or two to prevent it filling the entire space. Just in case, Lucien still drew power from his Spirit Fragment and Quincy cross, but he didn't expect it would be necessary at all.

[Connor Greaves]

If there was one thing he could say about this girl, was that she was a tad creepy. She looked exceptionally young, though that might have been how short she was in comparison to his abnormal height. She was probably a spiritual being, given how she glowed, but he was unsure of what exactly she was. She brushed off Connor's concerns with ease, putting him off just a touch, in spite of how nice she was about it. What was not so nice, was how her attitude took a drastic shift, as the air around her filled with a dark and wicked malice. The shift was so sudden, the shinigami stumbled back several steps in fear.

"Ahh, I see now; You are here for the violence. My mistake, carry on." Connor was proud that he managed to say that without stuttering in fright. Regardless of her appearance, she was quite the intimidating figure with how murderous she seemed to be. The guards seemed to be in agreement with him on this one, as they responded to her threats of bloodshed in kind. Looking back on it, storming the front gates was probably not his best of ideas, as the guards gave them a warm welcome. Then again, he doubted that most people considered 'fireballs' to be a very friendly response.

Connor was ready to shunpo out of the way from a crispy death, but the pink woman beside him seemed to have a better idea. This woman, as he had no better way to describe her at the moment, fired what could only be called a cero towards the attack, blowing through the flames as though they were little more than warmer winds. She followed up by shooting twin bolts of lightning at the men who let loose the attack. He gobsmacked at the power that this person possessed. In fact, he was so amazed at the strength of this pink woman, he very nearly missed the glimmer of movement in front of him.

His one good eye widened in shock, as he threw himself to the right, twisting to avoid whatever was speeding towards him. It was a blade made of air, as it turned out, cutting through his shirts and into his chest as it whizzed by. He let out a grunt of pain, holding his wound as he drew his own weapon. Tamashī had been waiting in his sheath with a surprising amount of patients, though that was only likely because it knew it would taste blood this day. The bastard sword was already released, and the Soul Reaper let loose an oily black wave towards where the blade had come from. He made sure to avoid hitting the pink woman, because he knew that such a thing would spell his end if she survived his attack.

This Vandenreich wasn’t the run of the mill that had now been proven as the two additional arrows fired from the trailers that the first two had left behind pierced the Hollow through the chest causing it to expel large portion of sickly green blood only for a moment later the arrows to explode killing the Hollow and ending the first guardian of the Citadel rather quickly. Lucien wouldn’t need to worry about the ice wall enclosing in on him now that the Hollow was dead the ice wall ceased its motion although its form remained.

He was near the elevator now and would be able to gain entrance to the true start of the Citadel now. Specifically the same building that the Vice Captain was currently moving through doing his best to keep from sight. Would Lucien enter in the same way or would he continue to do his own thing and find a different entrance. It would come down to whether he wanted to risk taking his time and the Hollow he just killed giving away to the leaders of the Citadel that something was wrong, or would he start to move with more drive now that he was potentially on a time limit.

At the front gate things were going pretty much just the same as the stream of intense flames that the two Fullbringers at the top of the gate building fired off at Keira were blasted apart easily. Evading the cero was one thing that both managed to accomplish yet the bolts of lightning through the chest wasn’t what they had been expecting. Facing off against an entity that could utilize both cero and kido wasn’t normal and most individuals didn’t have a chance in Hell against whatever could employ both.

The blade made from air that one of the other Fullbringers crafted against the Shinigami managed to just barely graze his chest yet sadly as Keira grabbed a hold of the stone slab and threw it back that same Fullbringer was painfully unaware of the inky black wave of reiatsu headed his way as he starred in shock at the slab falling towards them. Whether it be by the slab or the wave of ink didn’t matter as the Fullbringers in back were now deceased and the gate broken down. There would be only one question now, where had the Bount boy gone? He wasn’t anywhere to be seen and neither would be able to sense him?

As the Hollow was obliterated by Lucien's arrows, the Vandenreich quietly made the symbol of the Emperor's Cross and murmured a brief prayer for his departed foe, hoping his soul would be at peace. There wasn't any joy in Lucien's movement or attacks. Poor deluded creature. Its death was a necessity, but what a cruel necessity it was. Lucien did not give his departed foe another look, however. He strode with an even, somber stride toward the elevator now. Perfect. This was what he needed. A passage to the surface! Lucien climbed inside and looked for a means to operate it. He didn't see any reason to dally. If the elevator was a trap, there would be no reason for it to have a guardian, or to be hidden so within the falls.

With the battle resolved, Lucien now allowed his illness to strike since the coast appeared to be clear. Lucien staggered against the wall as he began coughing viciously into his arm. The coughing fit was so intense it brought Lucien to one knee, and when he drew his arm away from his mouth, his chest heaving with haggard breaths, he saw flecks of blood on his sleeve. At least it hasn't impeded my performance... At least not yet... Lucien thought sorrowfully. His Bow properties had dissipated now, and although Lucien drew a bit more power back through his Spirit Cross and Fragment to replenish his reserves, he did not intend to keep drawing for much longer. He didn't want to draw a giant signal beacon to him. But it would be good to be ready. Just in case someone was waiting for him at the top level of the cliffs that this elevator was traveling toward.

Lucien's breathing evened out and he took a deep breath as he rested now against the wall, letting his focus draw outwards. First through the elevator to assure himself that there was not some hidden enemy here that he could detect with Energy Sensory. Then further out beyond the elevator above. Lucien drew back in his memories for a moment to reflect on his situation and the best way to move forward. Identify your immediate surroundings. Then expand your sphere from there. Knowing an enemy's location five miles away is no use if you do not know the enemy's location two miles away, or one mile away. Discern your objective and then determine how to reach it, starting with the first step. If there was an enemy waiting for Lucien as he left the elevator, for instance, it didn't matter what the defenses of the Citadel itself were. Lucien would have to defeat the enemy at the elevator before he could even conceive of such an opponent. No matter who was running this show, with their forced transformations, it didn't matter unless Lucien could reach them first. So the first place Lucien checked after he was finished examining the elevator was to direct his energy sensory upwards, towards the top of the cliff to sense the reiatsus of anyone up there. After that, he extended out further, extending past the top of the cliffs and toward the Citadel itself. He could still sense the monstrous reiatsu near the Citadel. He expected he would have to face that at some point soon.

For now, Lucien took a much desired breather.

[Tsukuyomi Kawada]

Once the door opened to the outside Tsukuyomi wasted no time. Stepping forward making sure that he was just enough out of the building that those inside wouldn’t be able to see him unless they were facing the doorway. Good thing it was bright outside he could see any sort of movement in the area which was honestly way more natural than he had been expecting. It looked like this group or at least the base they were using was for the most part built on a river that had quite a large amount of land inside of it.

Getting out of sight was the first thing he’d have to do. He wasn’t the best at stealth yet thankfully in this situation his weight was going to help him a bit. He was suppressing his reiatsu doing his best to conceal himself and stay undetectable. Moving across the distance he’d try to reach the metal bridge connecting the section of land he and the building he had just been in to another. From what he could see the land that he was on now wasn’t very big with the largest section to his right having nothing in sight. The bridge he approached was rather long, easily one hundred feet. He couldn’t see anyone on it so he just hoped as he approached it and began to walk across crouched down he wouldn’t be seen.

Lucien would find that there were no threats inside of the elevator and he truly had a moment to catch his breath now that he had defeated the gatekeeper. In truth that section of the elevator was actually the center as Tsukuyomi had been given a pass allowing him to enter below where all those that were a part of the Citadel entered. Lucien had proven himself though by defeating the gatekeeper. As for what he senses with his reiatsu well that was a bit heavy on information. First of all he’d pick up the signature of a dozen or so Fullbringers in the building above that he was ascending towards. Just outside of the building he’d be able to sense Tsukuyomi although only ever faintly almost like if he didn’t take the time to sense everything slowly like he wanted he could have missed him entirely.

Once past that it would get harder though, but Lucien would be able to sense that there were dozens upon dozens of Fullbringers along with Mod Souls and Bounts spread throughout although they didn’t even number a dozen altogether. Once he was able to feel the Shinigami and Failure at the bridge far off again he experienced a sensation that’d cause a twinge of instinctual fear and goosebumps across his body. For an instant he’d see himself surrounded by darkness yet in front of him a massive western dragon larger than a skyscraper dark pink and ready to devour him in an instant. Then it’d be over and should Lucien attempt to sense so far out again that same sensation would warn him. Once the elevator reached the top the same Fullbringer that met Tsukuyomi grinned at Lucien. “Wasn’t expecting a Quincy. All the same you’re probably here under Asmoskon’s orders. Good we need all the support we can get.”

Lucien stepped out of the elevator, acknowledging the feeling of the dragon. There is a powerful individual here. I hope to be able to bend them to the Vandenreich's cause. Lucien thought quietly as he took stock of his surroundings. Lucien coughed a few times as he felt the cold sweat break out across his body. It is Human to fear. And I am human afterall. But I am also Vandenreich. I am not permitted to succumb to fear. Fear or not, I shall not retreat from a mere phantom. I will move forwards. Always, and ever forwards. Lucien therefore steeled himself as he walked forwards.

He looked at Tsukuyomi for a moment. Asmokon. As in the family of Masurao? A family of Vandenreich defectors that had long since thought to be extinct--? No. No that wasn't right. Lucien remembered that one of the Vandenreich had encountered Asmokon. Hadrian. A man that Lucien had believed he would have enjoyed a long conversation with on the nature of the Vandenreich and the Emperor and how they could improve it. Alas. Unfortunate. "I'll need you to explain the situation, Shini--" Tsukuyomi's Hell reiatsu hit Lucien like a wave, and Lucien's eyes hardened. "....I'm sorry. I correct myself. You are no Shinigami, even though you wear their colors." Lucien stated surprisingly gently for the accusation he was making. Ironically, that may well have been the one thing saving him. There can be no mistake. Hm. I'll have to notify Lord Alexander when I return to the Sillbern. He'll be interested knowing there is a Sinner in Soul Society. Lucien thought to himself.

"In any case. Explain the immediate situation. I will be making my way toward the Citadel, to see what this research they've been developing is all about. I need you to tell me what you can about this area. You were here first, and I presume you have completed a preliminary scouting?" Lucien asked of Tsukuyomi as he began to move onwards immediately, expecting Tsukuyomi to keep up. His back was stiff and his posture formal, as a soldier's should have been. Lucien hadn't explicitly acknowledged or denied Tsukuyomi's assumption, though Lucien wasn't the type to lie. If addressed on the matter directly he would reveal himself to Tsukuyomi, but for the moment he would take advantage of Tsukuyomi's misunderstanding. In the meantime, he would treat Tsukuyomi as he would a Soldat for the moment. Granted-- he did not expect the same level of professionalism from a Shinigami... or worse, as he would from one of his own, but he expected Tsukuyomi to have at least learned something.

[Kiera Bright]

Like a cowboy from an old western film, Keira blew the smoke trailing form her index finger. The technique itself didn't cause the smoke from her by itself, just a interesting little side affect she could cause with a little reiatsu manipulation. The two fullbringers that dodged the cero, as predicted. What they didn't see coming was the lightning to the chest. Their faces were priceless, though she did not laugh verbally. Only a small smirk spread across her face. The slab of stone, and the fullbringer that threw it, were just as easily dispatched. Keira felt the attacking coming from the shinigami and adjusted her position accordingly. She sensed a large amount of reiatsu from him. Not unstable and destructive like hers, more wild and unrefined. That thing about him did catch her attention, but that would be something that she explored later. 

She was concerned that she could not sense the bount boy. She assumed it must be some sort of suppression power from his doll. It was irksome that he managed to remain hidden from her, but it was nothing that would delay her for long. All she had to do was stay alert, and that was something that she had gotten really got at. She turned to the shinigami was a pleasant enough smile showing her non-hostility. "Lets go assistant, we arn't going to get anything done out here." She said turning back to the gate and walking through it. She made sure to avoid any pieces of rubble using her reiatsu arms to move the larger pieces, or any dangerous looking pieces out of the way.

Connor held his blade to the side, keeping it from touching himself, or the ground. He could feel his sword chomping at the bits to spread its corruption far and wide, but he wasn't about to upset the woman with the giant floating hands, who just crushed their opponents to death. That hadn't stopped the wave of poison from reaching the two cadavers, however. His poison was too potent to be stopped by a few thousand pounds of debris. He stepped ahead of the woman, and held his arm out in front of her, in an attempt to stop her advance. "Do mind the zombies, please." He said in a calm tone, as the rubble began to shake violently.

Suddenly the hunks of rock twisted and morphed in place. What once was a broken pile of rocks, suddenly became a hoard of hissing and angry rats, that looked dead and rotted. Underneath the animal swarm, the bodies of the fullbringers clawed their way out of the pile. The screamed in pain and agony, whipping their heads about looking for prey. Their sunken eyes landed on Keira, before they saw Connor in the way. The Hoard ignored her for the moment, before they made for the gate, crossing through like a tidal wave of rotten flesh. After ten seconds, the only living people were Keira and Connor. "I hate to ask this, but I would ask you to walk with air-ground. I will be converting the ground in a similar manner, and I would hate for you to suffer the same fate." He asked her politely.

[Tsukuyomi Kawada]

This was it he was coming upon the door that led outside. He could see what was in view to the greenery outside that there weren’t any guards although that wasn't definite due to the fact he couldn’t see everything outside. Either way he’d have to take the risk. No guards on either end of the hallway that housed the main door. That meant this was his best chance to simply get outside and hope that he wouldn't have to start fighting yet. He was a good distance away from that large tower which Tsukuyomi undoubtedly believed the person behind all these issues was likely to be.

He stopped though when he heard the sound of someone coughing behind him several feet away. Was it the man that had helped him get inside by revealing the elevator? No, that didn’t make any sense for him to start moving around now. Turning his body as slightly to the side as he could Tsukuyuomi gained vision behind him and could see the individual approaching him. Just one huge problem, Tsukuyomi possessed no skill in sensing reiatsu and based on the clothing this man was wearing he couldn’t tell he was Vandenreich.

Now Tsukuyomi faced a very big problem. The individual walking towards him, was he a guard or someone else that had sought to gain access to this place without barging in? He did everything he could to try and tell if this man was threatening towards him and in the end it was only his instincts. Tsukuyomi had a feeling in the pit of his stomach that this man couldn’t be trusted yet, but he flashed no fangs. Tsukuyomi’s eyes burst in shock though as the man began to speak. Immediately raising his hand up in the universal signal to be quiet. Pointing at the doorway, Tsukuyomi took off now moving at 300 speed to get through the door and outside in little more than two seconds.

“There are guards inside the building. Why would you just start speaking so plainly inside an enemy controlled territory?” Tsukuyomi sighed, giving himself a moment to collect his emotions. He’d begin to move towards the first bridge that connected this small bit of land to a much larger section. In this time the Quincy would likely ask his questions and make his statements. “Yes I’m not a typical shinigami. I’ve only just gotten here, the only information I gathered were the guards inside that building. We can only hope now that one of them doesn’t get bored and look out a window. We’re here for the same purpose, I suggest we work together for the time being, our chance of success together is likely higher than separate.”

Despite being outnumbered the intruders at the front gate made quick work of the gate guards. The gate literally ruined now laying across the front of the entrance while the guards themselves with the exception of one were now morphed into hideous zombies. For that first minute after they had defeated the guards they wouldn’t have any sort of issue. They’d only face the next challenge as they moved past the rumble and a few feet further down the bridge. That’s when they’d sense the reiatsu of a very powerful Fullbringer getting closer to them. It’d only last a second before their physical senses altered them to the sound, sight and feeling of something incredibly heavy impacting the bridge roughly ten meters in front of them.

A small cloud of dust brought him from the impact wouldn’t even completely conceal the new guard that faced them down. A large male based on the full plate armor of dark silver color that wore a helm which somehow managed to conceal his face in darkness. At the top of the helm were two large spikes almost looking like horns. Holding a long broadsword in his right hand at his side and a large shield in his left facing them was this enemy. He wouldn’t attack instead bringing his sword around in front of him and scratching a line across sending the message that they wouldn’t be getting past it. Afterwards he stepped forward and it seemed Keira and Connor wouldn’t be getting any time to know one another any better.

[Kiera Bright]

A thin eye brow was raised as Keira silently questioned what the hell the shinigami was doing stopping he. Then he mentioned the zombies. She could feel his reiatsu at work before any noticeable signs of his powers manifested. Fist a plague of rats spawned from the rubble, then the two corpses of the fullbringers rose back from the dead. She couldn't fully stifle the giggle that came from her throat. This was almost cute. Though she was reminded to check on her own hoard whenever she was able to get back to the lab. Maybe she could swipe something from here that would help her in that too. She didn't like competition , but she was more than willing to take advantage of them for her own benefit. 

She formed a fresh reiatsu arm from under her feet, and adjusted the height to about a foot off the ground. It wouldn't give her the imposing position that she was used to, but it was enough to protect her from whatever the shinigami's power was. They advanced a bit only to be stopped by their next opponent. This one was much stronger than those that they had fought at the gate. A knight in full silver plate armor stood before them. A shield in one hand, and a sword in the other. She had no idea what to expect from this fight, but it was a good thing that she did not need to go in blind. Keira sat down in her hand like a queen on her throne. Her other reiatsu hand moving just behind Connor. 

"Well looks like there is a new challenger, go get them my dear Wattson!" She said using her other reiatsu arm to slap him hard in the back. Not hard enough to cause any pain, but enough to get him to stumble forward. If all goes well, she would not need to do anything to get through this next obstetrical, and she would get to see what the shinigami was all about. She would cross her right leg over her left, and rest her cheek into her right hand. A small smile spread across her face. It wouldn't be right to expect her to pull the weight of the entire operation on her own would it? "Don't worry, I will intervene if it looks like you are about to die." She said in a weak attempt to reassure him.

Lucien looked at Tsukuyomi sharply, before considering the situation. "I'm sorry." Lucien replied softly. "I presumed you had handled the situation already. In that case, what are you still doing here? My arrival was not announced, so I do not expect you were waiting for reinforcements." He chastised Tsukuyomi. "Remaining in an area heavily patrolled by enemies at risk of discovery? That doesn't seem particularly wise." He added. His voice was quiet, but there was a tone of admonishment, like a disappointed parent. Do Shinigami not even address basic tactics and strategy? Lucien wondered in disappointment. The so-called rivals of the Vandenreich were in an even more sorry state than he had believed possible. That also left the notion of a Hellspawn among them.

Lucien looked ahead as he followed Tsukuyomi out of the building. He would admittedly like to clear this with as little trouble as possible. Tsukuyomi's comment about working together gave Lucien pause, the Quincy's brow furrowing. "...We'll see." He replied, tersely, as he began to advance, at a low crouch. If nothing else, he'd be able to dispatch Tsukuyomi when the time was right. "So you have not uncovered any further information about this place, besides that there are guards in this building?" He inquired of Tsukuyomi. Fine. Lucien admittedly had never operated alongside a Shinigami before. This could be useful for information. He could deliver a full report on Shinigami tactical process and patterns, to better determine ways to exploit those patterns in addition to whatever he may retrieve from here. So long as the Shinigami did not receive what he was going after, it would be fine. Even so... Tsukuyomi was no Shinigami. Lucien could learn to cooperate with a Shinigami that he found like-minded and inclined to side with the Vandenreich. There was no future for Tsukuyomi in the Vandenreich with his Hell blood. Lucien pitied the man, but contrary to Lucien's typically more caring side, there was nothing he could do for Tsukuyomi. It was best to get this over with shortly. Lucien would gather what he needed to know from Tsukuyomi, and then either abandon him, or drop him. Whichever the situation required.

[Connor Greaves]

The woman lifted herself up with her hand-shaped reiatsu construct, and was floating a foot off the ground, from what he could only guess. It was good enough, as he dragged his weapon along the ground as the unlikely pair continued forward. Ripples of poison coated the ground wherever the blade touched, ten feet in either direction. The vile purple liquid was quickly absorbed into the grass and ground, making it look like a trick of the light, due to how fast it vanished. "So. What issue does a woman like yourself take with these monsters?" Connor asked, trying his best to sound cordial.

The zombies were a good distance ahead of them, spreading poison along the path they traveled. Then something appeared in their way. A man with black-iron armor, polished to a sheen. Sword and shield in hand, he looked ready to take the two of them on. The Bount must have retreated to gather reinforcements. It was a shame then, when the man came ill prepared for a hoard of zombies. The vampire had left before Connor had turned anything, so it was to be expected that he didn't see the wave of rats leap at him, trying to cover him from head to toe in rotten flesh.

Connor would have been content with letting the rodents and zombies finish him off, but the Failure gave her words of encouragement, beckoning him onward, to face the inhuman knight. Connor rolled his eyes. "Your wish is my command, Ms. Holmes." He said sarcastically. Still, he appreciated the bit of humor, thinking that she might not be half bad. Connor strode forward, blade in hand. If the knight made contact with any of the undead, the corruption would begin. The armored inhuman would be fated for a painful death.

Whether of not the Freak flung the animals off of him, Connor would launch a poison wave at him. The crescent wave would stem from the ground, like a shark cutting through the surface of the water. Anywhere the poison touched would twist and mutate into more zombies, crawling themselves from the earth they were once trapped in. The blade was moving at a speed of 800, and would hopefully cut the knight in twain. If not, he would have to face another hoard.
