Question for my character

well, I'm kinda at a crossroads with my character as I have a few ideas for her. This revolves around where I'm aiming for her to be, so these are my options and questions:

Class 8 unseated officer (squad 3): I wouldn't mind starting at the beginning for this character, however; my only concern/issue is that I'm not sure whether or not I'm allowed to use/have a zanpakuto and therefore, a shikai.

Class 4 10th seat (squad 3): This is where I'm aiming currently, but the problem is that I don't get the benefits of starting from the bottom up, but does guarantee I can have a zanpakuto of my own and access to shikai.

Class 1 Captain (squad 13): This is a interesting choice for me since originally, my character, Fauna, on the first bleach site I was on, made it to become the captain of squad 3, which I'm quite happy for. However, I understand this requires a lot of work for a class 1 rating.

so if anyone can advice me on things on what path I should take, please let me know

It's worth noting that while you will not receive a shikai if you start at Class 8, Ranking up to the point that you obtain your Shikai is relatively quick and painless, and perfectly feasible within only a few threads, if they're of decent length. I would recommend either starting at Class 8 and ranking up, or aiming for a Class 1/2 Captain level app. Starting in-between is probably the lowest priority, as ranking up from lower ranks is relatively easy, and it's not until around Class 4 that progression starts to slow down.

All Shinigami, no matter the class, retain a zanpakuto at class 8. (barring types like Technique Master).

Shikai is automatically gained at class 4, so your second choice would already have it, and your First choice would get it fairly quickly. its only 1500 CTP from class 8 to 4.

For a Captain, you don't necessarily require class 1, Captains can also be class 2. However, it IS a lot of work. This can be mitigated by a unique character and power, but even then, it requires a lot of writing. THIS is around the size you would be looking at for a Captain app, maybe a bit smaller if you accept class 2.

In the end its up to you! But don't be afraid of any choice cutting off your options! It's all about how you want to play ^_^ Have fun!

Hmmm I see, so even though at the start, I might not have shikai, its still possible for me to have my own zanpakuto (as in its sealed form and final shape anyway) and I wouldn't mind training with someone to help me OC unlock shikai and help communicate with my zanpakuto.

indeed and when I original made her, she was original at a 10th seat's level, but I worked hard to get to captain level, which I really enjoyed doing.

So, I may do a mix of both: starting at class 8 and work my way up to captain level, where seeing a gap in the gotei 13, she'll take up the vacant position as the captain of squad 13.

Fauna one thing to note is that when trying for a captain after creation you need to have bankai and be class 2 at min. Bankai seats for non captains are very limited and highly contested, so do note that not going for a captain seat off the bat could result in a long time waiting , unless you're able to lay a claim to be a captain for a squad and win the captaincy fight against the current captain.

I'm aware, I do have her bankai already from my previous bleach site, just has to be converted. Again, I'm aiming for squad 13 captain to fill that void up, although I presume that would be a captaincy test of some kind since there isn't a captain there

Well that depends on if you start at class 8 or straight to captain. If you start at class 8, once you get to class 3, you can attempt to gain bankai, depending on if there are any slots open, you may have to fight for it. And at class 2, you can apply for Captaincy. If the role is open, you should get it if you're class 2 and have bankai, if it isn't you will have to fight the current holder of the position. If you Power Tier into Captain, there is no test, and you automatically have Bankai.
