Physical Description:
Shōkan is tall, although probably not the tallest person you've met, and of average build. He has a pale complexion like many of his clan, and deep cerulean blue eyes. People say that the eyes are the window to the soul, and Shōkan is no exception. Most of the time, day to day, his eyes contain a determined, steely gaze, however, in his moments alone, when no one is watching, they hold a melancholy that conveys a deep yearning... His shoulders are slightly broader than average, and his posture is excellent, always proper and straight. This is very important to Shōkan, so perfect posture is a constant for the man.
One of the things people first notice about Shōkan is his startling white hair. It is pure white, and is pulled back over his head, ending at the back of his neck. THe look is actually very becoming of him, contributing to his already considerable good looks. Back in his time, Shōkan was considered one of the most eligible bachelors of the soul society, and already it is becoming apparent that the women will consider him to be so once again. With noble, aristocratic features, he is extrememly handsome. However, Not only are the aristocratic, but they are also strong, firm, mature... Shōkan is definitely not a child.
Among Shōkan physical traits, one of his most noticable is a tattoo traveling up his right arm. From the back of his wrist, all the way up to his shoulder, spiraling around his arm, is a stylized tattoo of a phoenix. The phoenix is black, although many times in combat it will glow a startling white. The tattoo was placed upon him at birth to mark him as the heir to the Kawada Clan, and has bonded with him so closely that it responds to his emotions. While this isn't his only significant physical trait, it is probably the on Shōkan is most proud of. It permanently marks him as a member of the once illustrious Kawada Clan, something he is immensely proud off.
Shōkan's attire varies depending on the situation he is in. When on duty as a shinigami, he wears the regulation garb of his rank, along with a white silk collar around his neck. The collar is of extremely hihg quality, and is tied off around the back of his neck. When not on duty, or at home, Shōkan will wear a simple (yet hihg quality) silk kimono that is a recreation of one he had when alive. It is black, but with white stylizations of clouds and wings all along the kimono. The style actually almost looks angelic. It is very beautiful and elegant as far as clothing goes.
One of Shōkan's more discernable traits is his habit of being lost in thought. Often one can find Shōkan with eyes glazed over and his hand on his chin, or looking far off in the distance as if remembering somthign long forgotten. To the ladies, this gives Shōkan a 'Deep and Mysterious' aura, and makes them like him all the more, to his enemies however it can be somewhat annoying as it seems like he isn't paying attention to the at all, which, to be honest, he is not. This is easily one of Shōkan's largest flaws, nut he simply cannot help it, he has so much memory to, well, remember.
Shōkan is prone to smirking smugly or arrogantly when he smiles, simply out of habit. It is at times incredibly infuriating, even to his own comrades, especially because whenever he does have that smirk, he is almost always right, or correct in his assumption of the situation, making it twice as agitating for his enemies and comrades alike. Most of the time however, Shōkan has a firm look of aloofness, or disinterest on his face, emotion is usually reserved for those who actually garnr some bit of respect from the man, which is generally those who are strong, or graceful.
Shōkan's reitsu is very unique in that its color is pure white. There is not an ounce of color in this zanpakuto other than white, making it difficult to see in snowy environments. This color extends any of his techniques that use reitsu of course. Something particular about Shōkan's reitsu is that it appears almost intelligent, while being focused into a technique, his reitsu seems to swirl around him almost protectively. Tihis is somethign extremely unique and not a small bit awesome about Shōkan and his reitsu in particular. Other than the sheer power it posesses, there is not much esle appearance wise to speak of on Shōkan's reitsu..
Shōkan's appearance has changed drastically since his sealing. Before, he was of similar height and build, but with raven black hair of a similar style. His hair contained red highlights throughout as well. He was significantly less pale, with a healthy tan. His a=eyes were also a much darker shade of blue, dark cerulean instead of the glacial blue they are now. All of these changes are mainly due to the stasis seals affect on his body, which was obviously much greater than anticipated.

~Denizens Of Hell~
In life these beings, these, monsters, were the lowest of the low, and the fact that they continue breathing, despite the fact that they reside in hell, is an atrocity to him.

~Sour Foods/Candies~
Why would you want to eat something that makes you want to spit it out the moment you put it in your mouth?? That doesn't amke any sense!

~Parents of Bastards~
Shōkan finds this to be incredibly disgraceful and irresponsible. It's not the childs fault that their parents made this decision, and yet they still have to bear the weight of their crimes.
~Chaos, Disorder~
Shōkan is a devoted believer in law and order, so it is no surprise that he dislikes the opposite of these virtues.
~Forces of Las Noches~
Arrancar. Traitorous Shinigami. These beings go against the natural order of things... They are an abomination, and go against everything that Shōkan believes in.
~Kuroi Naito~
"The state this man, nay, monster hath put my clan in is horrifying! He will pay dearly for his crimes!"
~Hell~
Yes, even in Shōkan's time Hell was a terrible terrible place. In fact, if anythingit's grown worse.
~Criminals, Malfeasants, and Unsavory Characters~
One of Shōkan's largest personality traits is his sense of Justice, so, given his morals, it is of a matter of course that he would dislike the dregs of society.
Likes:
~Sozen Kuchiki~
From what Shōkan understands, Sozen is one of the most powerful members of the Gotei 13, and the only one capable of standing up to such foes as Kuroi Naito and Adalo. For thism Shōkan respects the man for protecting his home. Also, he likes the mans personality and fighting style, befitting that of the leader of a noble clan.

This is one of the most beautiful things in the world to Shōkan, the bond between a zanpakuto spirit and their shinigami is a deep and powerful connection, and Shōkan dearly misses his.
~The Kawada Clan~
Using like is too weak a term to describe Shōkan's feelings towards his clan. He loves the Kawada. He adores the Kawada. He would do anything and everything for his clan, it was for the sake of the Kawada that Shōkan submitted to the stasis seal, for their future safety. And so it will be for them that Shōkan regains his former strength and reclaims his clans former glory.
~Battle or Enemies He Can Be Proud of~
Just because you're enemies with someone, doens't mean you can't respect them, or the battles that you take part in. Shōkan believes it is very important to have enemies and rivals you can respect and be proud of.
~The Noble Families~
They are the paragon of virtue in the Soul Society, and Shōkan respects them for the law and order they provide for the Sereitei
Flaws:
~Holding Back~
While partially because of his need to restrain his immense power, Shōkan also holds back in ways he doesn't really need to, such as not drawing his zanpakuto in most situations. Mostly it's because people just aren't as strong as they were back in Shōkan's day, and he forgets he isn't as powerful as he used to be since he lost his Zanpakuto. Shōkan has a very bad habit of holding back, which will probably come back to bite him some day.
~Tends to Overestimate Opponents~
Becaus epeople in his time were stronger, and because he realizes he's holding back, he tends to think that people will be stronger than they turn out to be, and overestimates his opponents. This usually leads to him being disappointing.
~Not Knowing The Names of Modern Terms~
"I apologize, there has been much I have needed to catch up on since my ressurection. So many new terms... Now what was that called again? Twerking?"
~Sunburns Easily~
One of Shōkan's flaws is that he sunburns easily, due to his fair skin. Because of this he does't often go to he beach.
Habits:
~Speaking Old-Fashioned~
Even though Shōkan is adjusting to this new time very quickly, whenever he drops his guard, is relaxed, or is in some kind of extenuating circumstance, he tends to speak very old fashioned, occaisionally even speaking in an archaic language.
~Getting Lost in Thought~
It's no surprise really, Shōkan has a lot of memeory to remember, and he tends to remember stuff often...
~Aloofness to Lower Ranks (In Battle)~
Shōkan has the habit of treating those of lower ranks in battle as well... underlings. Those of a class or rank lower than Shōkan's he tends to pay much less attention too. He doesn't see them as lesser or anything, he just tends to overlook their abilities.
Fears:
~To Return To Stasis~
There is a common misconception about the stasis technique Shōkan was trapped in... That the person being frozen is unaware of their surroundings for the duration of the technique. This is partially true, Shōkan couldn't see hear or snese anything beyond the technique... However, for over a thousand years, Shōkan was trapped in a barren purgatory, with nothing but his thoughts...
~The Kawada Clan Dying Out~
It goes without saying that Shōkan, who cares for his clan so deeply would fear such a situation ever coming about... This is one of the things that haunts Shōkan's nightmares.
~Forgetting His Past~
For Shōkan, he hasn't lived in this era nearly long enough for it to define him, so losing the memories of his past frightens him. After all, without his past, what is he?
~Agoraphobia~
Shōkan has a slight case of agoraphobia, A.k.a. fear of large open spaces. This stems from his time in the stasis seal, where for over a thousand years he floated in a barren wasteland of nothing infinitely, in every direction. While Shōkan has it under control, and has lessened it considerably, it's still there.
Goals:
~Redeem His Clan~
Coming into this new era, Shōkan was horrified at his clan's recent misfortune. Their fall from grace at the hands of Kuroi Naito, and just as they were returning to their former glory, the clan is nearly completely wiped out. Shōkan will redeem his clan, return it to its former glory. At the moment, this goal supercedes all others.
~Retake Squad 13~
It is incredibly mortifying when a noble clan loses their ancestral Squad. In Shōkan's time, the Squad 13 captaincy had been a line of kawada's unbroken for centuries, and it was a disgrace for this to change now. This is one step among many that he most take to reclaim his clans former glory.
~Regain His Lost Power~
Because he was locked in stasis for so long, all of Shōkan's abilities have withered to a shadow of his former self, and his connection to his zanpakuto spirit was lost. This was a tradgedy, Shōkan was once the most powerful captain of his time, and possibly the most powerful shinigami the Kawada had ever produced. For him to be reduced in such a state is unbearable to him. While he still retains his massive talent and potential, he has lost all of his hard won power.
~Regain His Zanpakuto~
Although it is in vain, and more of a wish than a goal really, Shōkan deeply years for his zanpakuto, Honō- Haraikiyome. The bond between a zanpakuto and a shinigami is very deep and meaningful, especially so in Shōkan's case. Losing his zanpakuto to Shōkan was more than losing power and release, it was losing his best friend and closest confidant.
Alignment: [Lawful Good]
Overall Personality:
The term 'old soul' is often used to describe someone who's personality is much to mature for their appearance. This holds especially true for Shōkan, as he literally much older than anyone would ever guess, even by spiritual standards. As a result, Shōkan acts much like an old man in some aspects. He is very intelligent, and regards those who are not with no small amount of contempt. He has none of the 'innocence' that some young people have, any naivete he once possessed was wiped out by his thousand year imprisonment in the stasis seal. One can see that Shōkan has many old fashioned values; those of family, morality, truth, justice, these are the
things that drive Shōkan towards his goals.
Being raised as the heir to a great noble clan caused Shōkan to grow up very responsible and mature, and thhis has not changed to this day. In matters of duty, he is the most trustworthy individual one might find, he finds no amusement in the childish antics of some that exist in the soul society. This is not to say that he is completely devoid of emotion, he simply finds happiness and laughter in different aspects of life. One of the surefire ways to get Shōkan happy is to put him with a young and upcoming shinigami, he loves seeing the next generation getting stronger to surpass the former, and enjoys imparting his knowledge with others. This isn't to say he has no sense of humour at all of course, just not in the immature variety.
Shōkan holds himself with a composed air. He is supremely self confident, although not quite to the point of arrogance, he knows the full extent of his abilities, and is aware of his limits. Because of this he never seems flustered or surprised, even when inwardly he might be, although that feat is dificult to accomplish. Shōkan is very determined, he knows what he wants to do and goes after it, he is never unsure, never falters in his motivation. This strength of will is the only thing that kept his sanity in tact for over a thousand years of purgatory, and it is not to be underestimated, when Shōkan set's out to do something, one can bet that it will be done.
To his comrades, Shōkan has a very reassuring presence, he is devoted to them, and treats them all as he would treat his own family, helping his squad mates and underlings as one of his own. This precense alone can be enough to calm his comrades in the midst of battle. To his enemies however, Shōkan seems an unstoppable force, his mere presence is so intense that it can cause some of his enemies to shake in fear, Shōkan is a domineering presence in any fight, be it a simple skirmish or a major battle. This can make him a target for enemies, or a beacon of hope for his comrades.
Shōkan is very patient, and does not mind waiting in the slightest for his comrades or family. This quality makes him an excellent teacher, one of the things he was known for in his era was teaching his Vice-Captain to unlock bankai in just 3 years, a feat previously unheard of. He is extremely intelligent, and can dissect a situation in a matter of seconds, be it social or a battle. This combined with his massive experience makes it extremely difficult to catch him by surprise or off guard, Shōkan knows all the tricks in the book, even the forgotten ones.

Shōkan's style of fighting is very old fashioned and classical, he hasn't quite adjusted to these current times yet you see.For one, Shōkan abhors dirty fighting, things that could be construed as cheating, if you're going to win, you should do so by your own strength. In this, Shōkan always fights 'fair'. In this way he handicaps himself, or allows an opponent to do certain actions if he percieves them weaker than he is. If he is serious in a fight however, he will not grant these handicaps though, as it only goes so far.
In battle, Shōkan emits a presence, an aura if you will. This is not a technique, and it doesn't use any reitsu. To put it simply, it's the air in which he holds himself, the way he walks, talks, moves, and fights. To his enemies, Shōkan has a domineering presence, both the unstoppable force and the unmovable mountain. He effortlessly counters your every move, analyzing you're entire fighting style and countering it in a single instant. With his massive experience, Shōkan has faced it all, and in many cases knows what move you were going to make even before you did. This sheer confidence and presence he maintains is enough to break the resolve and cause panic in any weak enemy. It is psycholgical warfare at it's finest.
The opposite also holds true for this skill. For Shōkan's allies, his presence is very reassuring, and him being on the battlefield by itself calms his allies and raises morale. They can feel his comforting presence around them, and they know that he will never allow harm to befall them. Because of this, Shōkan's mere presence turns the tide of many battles, demoralizing his enemies and rallying his allies in an incredible reversal of fortunes. Shōkan is an asset any general or commander would love to have in their army, not only for his unmatched battle prowess, but the sheer confidence he emits to his allies and enemies.
Unfortunately, his time in the stasis eroded all of his abilieis to the point where he is a novice once again, but Shōkan will regain his power... and soon. In his own era, Shōkan was known as a master of the sword, in fact, he was the foremost expert in swordsmanship in the entirety of the Soul Society. This has not changed in this day and age, Shōkan is still a supreme user of the sword, reigning over his enemies with skill unmatched. His sheer skill in his clans style of zanjutsu is a marvel to behold. His strokes are swift, precise, and most of all, perfect. With his experience, he never misses at what he aims at, and always hits his mark. To Shōkan, while raw power is nothing to sneeze at, and precision is important as well, perfection is far more important. To explain, perfection isn't moving the fastest, or striking the hardest, or even aiming the most prescisely... No, perfection is using the best combination of these 3 in conjuction for the desired effect. This travels over to his Hakuda as well.
Just as he is a master with a sword, Shōkan's skill in hand to hand transcends that of even the most skilled shinigami. He uses the now ancient style of Hakuda used in the Soul Society in his era. However, he has changed it considerably, incorporating many of the new innovations of the current form of Hakuda into it. Just as he is with his zanjutsu, Shōkan is perfect in his Hakuda, blocking and dodging strikes effortlessly, predicitng your next move 3 steps ahead, Shōkan utilizes the intimidating presence he has to pick his opponent apart piece by piece, never stopping his offensive, or alternatively, never faltering in his defense. He is both the unstoppable force and the immovable object, he is invincible... At least thats what his opponents begin to think within a few minutes of fighting Shōkan.
Overall Ability:
Shōkan's overall ability is named Honō-Haraikiyome, or, Purifying Flame, in honor of his lost zanpakuto. His power is simple, yet incredibly powerful. It is heat based, and because of it, opponents find it becomes harder and harder to fight Shōkan the longer the fight lasts. Personally, Shōkan believes that his bond with his zanpakuto was so strong that even when lost forever, it imprinted on him, because his reitsu's overall ability is fire based like his former zanpakuto's. However, that's enough speculation, let us delve into this power of his shall we?
To put it simply, an aread of 20 yards around Shōkan is affected by Honō-Haraikiyome at any given time, when the situation arises however, he can reign in his reitsu somewhat and limit it to 10 yards. In this area, heat is generated by Shōkan's reitsu. The closer you get to him, the more intense it becomes; at its fring of 20-15 yards, its simply that of a hot summers day 90 degrees, at this distance it is somewhat uncomfortable, and the victim will begin sweating due to the heat. At 14-10 yards, the heat is increased even more to a record hot summer day, at this distance, the victim will begin sweating even more, causing distractions from it, and mild sunburns are easily gained after a few posts. At 9-5 yards, the heat is cranked up to that of an intense desert at mid-day, the victim will begin sweating prfusely, the bodily fluids slackening their grip on their weapon and getting in their eyes. Intense sunburns and heat exhastion are also symptoms caused from any significant time in this area.
Finally, at 4-2 yards, any time spent in this area longer than a few seconds immediately creates mild burns to the victim, and the heat becomes unbearable for those without significant points in certain skills. The final level of this ability is 1 yard to skin contact with Shōkan. By this point, Shōkan's enemy will see the pure white flames dancing around his heels. At this distance, immediate and severe burns will appear on the body, and skin contact will burn the victim to the bone. This makes Shōkan extremely dangerous in close quarters. There are several ways to counter this ability however.
Points in Heat tolerance ecan mitigate these effects, 1 point reducing them by 20%, 2 by 35%, and 3 by 50%. Points in Strength of Will can allow the victim to ignore the pain for 1 post per point, it should be noted that this does not apply to the closest ranges of this ability, as the damage will still be present. Points in battle focus or a similar ability will have the same effect. Also, this ability is based on Shōkan's RS. If someone has 75% of his RS, they ignore 25% of the effects. If they have equal to his RS, they ignore 50% of the effects, if they have 25% more than him, they ignore 75% of the effects, and if they have more than 50% more, they ignore it altogether. One of the drawbacks of this ability is that it effects EVERYONE surrounding Shōkan, even comrades, and he can only reign it in by 10 yards in combat while keeping it active, otherwise, it is either off or on.
Also, for a huge expenditure of 500 reitsu, Shōkan can overcharge Honō-Haraikiyome, sending white flames in every direction for the 20 yards (or 10) surrounding him, these flames have the same effect as touching Shōkan's bare skin, horrible beyond 3rd degree burns anywhere they touch. These flames can be countered in the same way as the standard form of this ability. As you can see, Shōkan's overall ability is devastatingly powerful.

Technique Name: [Shunpo (Flash Steps)]
Class: 7
Technique Type: Kido
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects:
A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The focal point that determines the bases of this technique is speed. As speed is the main point of the technique the method is best characterized by how fast one can get from point A to point B in the least amount of steps. Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Shunpo can move; those of little skill in the technique or those who haven't used it an extended amount of time would obviously be out of practice, causing those individuals to be considerably slower, which requires the use of more steps to move the same distance and become winded far easier in a shorter amount of time. A single step magnifies speed for that step by 10 times. Uses 50 Reiatsu per step. This one is automatically learned in the academy. ALL shinigami know this when created. This technique does not take up a technique slot.
How to use technique:
A focus of reishi around the feet area, and then launching off into a single step which blurs, not unlike teleportation in appearance, except it is simply extremely fast movement. Often used to gain an edge in a single moment of combat, or to dodge incoming attacks.

History:
Shōkan was born nearly 1400 years ago, over 6 centuries after the Spiritual Arts Academy was founded for reference. Born as the sole heir to the illustrious Kawada Clan, Shōkan came into the world with an immense amount of responsibilty on his shoulders. He was also a very controversial child among many, for several reasons. Firstly, his heritage. Many thought of him as not a true Kawada, due to his mother, who married into the Kawada Clan from the Kuchiki Clan. Also, at the tender age of three, Shōkan lost his father to Squad Zero, Which he was recruited into due to his exemplary service, and immense power.
Shōkan proved them wrong, extremely wrong. Not only did he showcase incredible talent in any are he chose to attempt, he also proved to be a bridge between the Kawada and Kuchiki, a point to say that, yes, they could come together as one. In fact, many speculated that Shōkan could be the most talented shinigami born to either of the two clans in the last thousand years. When it came to learning the shinigami arts, Shōkan took to it like a fish to water. It seemed less that he was learning a new discipline, and more that he was simply remembering something long forgotten, so immense was his talent.
Since his father could no longer be the clan head, and Shōkan was too young to fill such a role, a group of the older members of the Kawada Clan came together to form a council to governt he clans affairs as regents until Shōkan came of age. Coming of age in the soul society is actually considerably older than in the human world, which is generally 18. In the Kawada Clan, the age one was deemed an adult was 70 years old, which, actually isn't that old when looking at the incredible age shinigami can live to become. Because of this, Shōkan was able to live the first decade of his life relatively peacfully with his mother in the Kawada Manor.
It wasn't until Shōkan was 13 that he began studying the shinigami arts. He quickly proved to be a prodigy in every sense of the word, surpassing the expectations of his mentors a hundred fold. By the time Shōkan was 20 he was already at the level of a higher seated officer, at 30, a vice captain, and by 40 years of age he was as powerful as a captain of the Gotei 13. At this age, Shōkan decided himself that he was an adult, and requested the elders to relinquish their control over the clan. The elders, who had grown to enjoy their new found powers gave Shōkan a stipulation, he must become a captain og the Gotei in order to wrest control over the clan from them. The elders were happy with this, they figured it would take Shōkan at least another 50 years to gain that level of strength, they had no idea of the power this boy, no man already possesed.
In a show of incredible superiority, Shōkan struck down the current Captain of Squad 13 in a one on one fight without even releasing his zanpakuto. Returning to the clan manor, Shōkan stunned the clan elders with the Haori he had gained from the battle, and his newfound rank. With no small amount of reluctance, the elders relinquished their control over the clan to Shōkan, the council of elders had been disbanded, and Shōkan was named the new clan head within a month of his ascendancy to captain. From this point on, Shōkan proved himself to be both an exemplary leader, and warrior.
Over the next 300 some odd years, Shōkan grew only more stronger, until he was without a doubt the strongest captain of the Gotei 13. Any battle he participated in was a victory, any mission he led was succesful, and he was undefeated in over 1000 duels. The fame and power Shōkan had amassed, not just for himself, but also for his clan, created a new problem for him. Marraige. Shōkan was in his prime, and his clan pushed him more and more to take a wife and sire them an heir, for the stability of the clan. Shōkan continuosly put them off again and again until he was left with little choice.
Narumi Kasumi'oji. A beautiful, and skilled shinigami, born to the noble house Kasumi'oji, had been sent with a request for an arranged marraige between the two. However, while the girl was undoubtedly beautiful, and intelligent, Shōkan simply did not love her. Unfortunately for him, the benefits of such a marraige for his clan was simply to great, and Shōkan chose duty over feelings, accepting the proposal for marraige. His clan was overjoyed at the good news, and preperations were quickly set up for a wedding, to be had in one years time.
Over the course of that year, Shōkan was sent on mission after mission to the human world. Something was brewing there... Numerous menos and adjuchas class hollows had begun popping up all over, and in continuously growing numbers. This worried the Sereitei to the point where they station Shōkan himself permanently in the 'hottest' area of the Human World. Because of this, the weding was postponed for another 6 months. Shōkan couldn't say he wasn't relieved at this however, just becaus eit was his duty, did not mean that he had to like it. And so life went on for Shōkan over the next 3 months, obliterating countless hollows that attempted to enter the Human World, none of them coming even close to challenging him.
Three months after he was stationed in the World of the Living, Shōkan sensed a massive energy source. It was so powerful that it actually rivaled his own, something Shōkan previously thought impossible. Shōkan quickly traveled to the location of the energy source, an area which is known today as the Nevada Desert. Arriving at the location, Shōkan was stunned to see hordes of hollows emerging from a garganta the size of a battleship. Attempting to call for reinforcements, Shōkan found that somethign was jamming his connection to squad 12. He turned to look at the source of the jamming. A lone humanoid hollow of immense power standing at the head o thee army... A Vasto Lorde.
Seeing the countless enemies arrayed before him, Shōkan activated his bankai.
"Cleanse all Evil, Honō-Haraikiyome!"
Before I continue, one must understand how dire the situation must be for Shōkan to have activated his bankai. Before this moment, Shōkan had never released his bankai in battle. In fact, he had only ever released it twice before, once when training, and another time to prove to the Captain Commander that he possesed this power. The number of hollows arrayed before him ranged in the millions, and the Vasto Lorde leading them could by himself defeat any two of the other captains of the Seireitei. The whole time, more hollows were pouring out of the garganta. Shōkan had to stop them now... He could not fail.
After releasing his bankai, Shōkan's form had changed. He was covered head to toe in slim armor of the purest white, and in his hand, he carried a flaming greatsword covered in white hot flames. Above his head, similar flames were arrayed in a halo. This wasn't the part of his release that was powerful however. Behind Shōkan, an army of 10,000 angelic beings stood. Covered in golden light, and wielding flaming swords. These beings were semi transparent, and some of them seemed to be stronger than others. (( Think similar to the ghost army in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, except with angels)) Turning towards his enemy, Shōkan charged, and the army of angels followed...
THe battle lasted for 7 days and 7 nights. Raging to and frow, it was so intense that reinforcements couldn't even join in to help, lest the be destroyed. Angel fought hollow, and Shōkan fought the un-named Vasto Lorde. He was strong. Extremely strong. In fact, Shōkan had never fought a stronger opponent in his entire life. Hour after hour, day after day, the two fought for an entire week, neither giving an inch, until the Vasto Lorde finally ran out of strength, and fell to his knees, head looking down. The other hollows, seeing their leader fall, quickly retreated back to Hueco Mundo, and Shōkan slowly approached the Vasto Lorde.
As he slashed his flaming sword to bisect the hollow however, it suddenly struck Shōkan with the palm of its hand. The instant it did, an gel struck it down, killing the unnamed vasto lorde, but the damage ha dbeen done. While he had no noticable mark on him, Shōkan immediately lost consciousness and fell to the ground. The shinigami that had been standing at the edge of the battle quickly retrieved Shōkan, and rushed him back to the Soul Society, and Squad 4. Startlingly Squad 4 was unable to do anything for him, whatever the Vasto Lorde had done to him was slowly killing him, they predicted that Shōkan would die with the year if nothing was done. That was when Squad 12 stepped in.
Squad 12 offered a solution. A newly created portal which led to an alternate universe where time passed 1000 times slower. They would put Shōkan into this dimension, and pull him out when the technology required to save him could be found. Everyone thought that this was a brilliant idea, with Squad 12's research capability, it would only be a couple of decades until Shōkan was cured! Unfortunately, they misscalculated. They thought that Shōkan's thought processes would slow down with his body, they were wrong, Shōkan's thoughts were completely unhindered by the time dialation. So Shōkan spent 1000 years lamenting his fate...
A millenia later, a Squad 12 member found a strange device tucked away into storage, it seemed that the device had been lost 500 years ago, when R&D switched the location of their headquarters. This was the portal to Shōkan's dimension. After opening the portal and rushing Shōkan to Squad 4, they had many questions for him. Who was he? What was he doing inside of that dimension? It would seem that the illness that struck him had run its course in 500 years... It ravaged Shōkan spiritually however, all of his hard won power and skill was gone, and his zanpakuto was destroyed. The shock of the illness passing through his system also turned his hair a startling white. Shōkan mourned the loss of his zanpakuto, and everyone he had ever known. But he was alive, and out in the world once again. Shōkan decided to make the most of the second chance he was given and revive his clan from the shadow of its former self it had become.
