Section 6: Types of Threads
On this forum, there are many different types of threads. Among these are the basic types called Adventure, Quest, Battle, Training, and Social Threads. While they are the ones you'll see most frequently, other types of threads exist and are discussed in this section. Before we move on, the most important part about threads should be explained. This is the thread's title. In the title, you'll mention an arbitrary name, perhaps a difficulty, a threat level, a rating, and other details. For example, a full thread title could be "The Fullbringers: Whirlwind of Death [R, NDE, Extreme]." While not every single detail needs to be mentioned in the title, it would be wise to add as much as possible.Threat Level
The threat level determines how dangerous a thread can be to your character on a more permanent basis. Every thread has a threat level, including socials, though socials are typically always NDE. The three threat levels are Non-Death Enabled (NDE), Damage Permanent (DP), and Death Enabled (DE).
- Non-Death Enabled (NDE) - The safest level. Any injuries do not need to carry over to subsequent threads after the original one is completed and no risk of permanent death exists. You have the option of keeping any existing injuries so long as it is voluntary on your part. Any injuries being carried over are also voluntary if they are in your own character's canon, but deaths can be hand-waved to have never happened if they do occur. Your character could simply be described as severely injured or defeated without any details.
- Damage Permanent (DP) - The middle ground between NDE and DE. Injuries given must be kept in subsequent threads without healing at our hospital thread or In-Character healing occurring. This allows players the impression of a threat to their characters, such as lost limbs, scars, or damaged organs without exposing them to death. It also allows for more character growth and development due to their injuries and helps them learn lessons in realistic ways.
- Death Enabled (DE) - These are the only types of threads in which death and injuries are truly a threat since it is permanent once it happens. Death is not reversible, and there is no way to bring them back. This level is highly challenging and not recommended for beginners. Generally, for the sake of a flowing story and making it enjoyable, Dungeon Masters won't kill you off at whim. Despite this, they won't save you from your own stupidity. Make wise decisions.
Rating
The thread rating determines the level of graphic and violent content within it. Higher ratings, like "R" typically touch upon strongly sexual or graphically violent themes, such as foul language, blood, gore, and other things. Whenever anything is about to become overly sexual or violent, you must either put it in a spoiler or make the scene fade to black. We ask members to respect the thread rating given at the thread's creation. Staff members will step in to deal with violations of rating. There is room for interpretation on the matter, but obvious and blatant disregard for ratings will be dealt with immediately. It can lead to punishment if the violation is excessive enough.Template for Starting Threads
For any thread type, you are allowed to also fill out the provided template. Feel free to make any modifications you see fit, but this may help you along your way. This should be filled out as the very first post in your created thread and be separate from your introductory posts.Name: [Insert Here] What is the name of your thread?
