The Kawada Family's symbol is a black phoenix with its wings open and pointed towards the heavens. It's circular in shape, making for a visually appealing design that's easier to place on clothing and architecture. The reason that the Kawada family has chosen the phoenix as their symbol is because of their resilience and undying loyalty to the Soul Society. Some say that the reason the Kawada family banded together under the symbol of the phoenix was because they used to be in charge of the Sokyoku. Whatever the case, the Kawada family proudly displays their crest on both their clothing, jewelery, and property.
The Kawada family has been a prominent force in Soul Society for as long as anyone can remember. Squad 13 has typically been a division under the Kawada family's control, just as Squad 6 remains with the Kuchiki. Recently the Kawada family has dropped its status as a Great Noble House due to the tragedy that occurred over 45 years ago when the Segunda Espada, Kuroi Naito, slaughtered the Captain of Squad 13, Kochikochi Kawada. His wife, and vice-captain, Suzume Kawada was left alive with grave injuries that forced her to quit becoming a shinigami and focus instead on raising her son, Shade Kawada, who would become the next head of the family.
Since the events that transpired almost 50 years ago, the Kawada family has regained much strength with the newest generation of shinigami. They push forwards in hopes of earning a place among the Four Great Noble Houses again. Like a phoenix, the Kawada family intends to rise from the ashes more powerful than ever. Their unique brand of kidou, sword techniques, and hand-to-hand maneuvers make fighting a Kawada a unique experience that one will not soon forget, assuming they survive.

{Special Kidou}The Kawada family, being one of the stronger families of Soul Reapers in Soul Society, have developed and claimed an entire brand of kidou for their own. Every member of the Kawada family is given the option to learn their own custom techniques entitled "Saiwan" instead of "Kidou." There are twenty Saiwan total, each one stronger then the next. This coupled with Kawada-unique sword styles or boxing techniques can make an incredibly powerful warrior.

The family has perfected their very own art of sword wielding that combines strength and speed with the refined technique. These sword styles are referred to as The Kosumosu. Each one reflects a different aspect of the cosmos as they come together to form one of the most frightening collection of sword techniques ever created.

{Unique Kentoujutsu} Within the last thousand years the Kawada family has emerged as a dominant hand-to-hand combat force. Perhaps the one to attribute this sudden increase in hand-to-hand abilities is the ex-head of the family, Jinbei Kawada who developed many of the boxing styles passed through the Kawada family himself. These techniques are well-guarded and are only taught to Kawada members who actively seek it out.

{Kawada Family Funding} The illustrious Kawada family has quite a substantial financial backing and has a Grant system in place in which any Kawada family member can withdraw or deposit ryo. Those who are not part of the family can request to borrow to be paid back by the agreed date with 10% interest.
