The drop of blood that fell from Kimiko's hands onto the ground below were about as heavy as the mass that covered her entire body. They landed onto the ground below with a loud and notable thunk, staining it with an even greater amount and leaving its presence even more pronounced. At this point, it was doubtful that it was just a matter of blood per say. Perhaps there was something in that drop that was more solid, a remnant of the person she appeared to have ripped in half. Pieces of skin, teeth, rips of muscle and bone... There were many horrid possibilities, with each of the most recent guesses being worse than the ones that preceded them. For all Ume knew, it could have even been something else entirely that she was somehow unaware of. Ultimately, however, it didn't seem to matter at all to the Captain, not while she remained there motionless with her eyes still so fixated onto the one new arrival to the scene she had left in her wake.
Not a single word left the Captain as she continued her observation. Instead, her eyes simply followed Ume. They did not even seem to flinch or even so much as blink; instead, they continued to be as wide as they possibly could. It was needless to say that, even for Kimiko, this was an unnatural sight. She appeared less as a Shinigami and even less so as the superior officer and dojo master that she was supposed to be, and more so a wild animal - or perhaps a Hollow, all things considered - that was on the verge of going on yet another, potentially-deadlier rampage if not stopped right this instant. Worse yet, now, her eyes were set on what may as well be a defenseless fighter who most likely could not confront her as well as all of these other Shinigami had in comparison, and it appeared that there was not even a single survivor among them. A violent beast of the dark consumed by anger, standing over a defeated legion and before a lone mouse.
Ume took her steps forward and asked her question. However, she received no response from the swordswoman. Not initially, anyway. All she really received was just more silence and more staring. But, although the spiritual energy had gone from the area by the time this "conversation" began, the researcher would be able to feel it rise again. It had not reached the extent that it had gone to earlier, but it could be felt again, albeit in a different fashion. Whereas its previous incarnation was a brute force that threatened to crush Ume's body whole, it was this time a seething force that just pressed against her ever-so-slightly, making itself known. She could even hear the noise that it made against the air itself as she ever-so-neared the Captain with every step she took towards her: a distant and constant ring humming in her ears, like tinnitus. If it were any higher, it would probably be just loud enough to cause a semblance of hearing damage.
This would go on for an agonizing amount of time, during which Kimiko continued to simply stand there in silence. But then, just as it would seem as though the Captain was not actually going to respond to the question at all, it would finally seem to reach her. Or well, "reach her", in the sense that she finally bothered to remember what had been asked of her. Her eyes would finally slowly blink and a quiet breath of air could be heard passing into her nostrils and down into her lungs. Was this acknowledgement of her doings? Possibly. But it didn't appear to be the case. Not quite, at the very least, for if that were true, she would have appeared to have some semblance of remorse. Such a thing was not what could be seen in her eyes even as they observed their surroundings again. If anything, it was a deep rage. An unending, unyielding, undying wrath that had reached a level so above the likes of which Kimiko had displayed in the past that it was as if her body could no longer express it.
Then, her eyes returned to Ume. The ringing, at this point, had become louder. Evidently, the Captain's spiritual energy had arisen. But for what reason, it was hard to say. That is, until the warrior's gaze turned almost murderous.
"You."
The ringing became louder, sharper, as the energy began to rise again. It was clear that something had been understood from this the Captain's end, or at least guessed, and that she was blaming the researcher for it. Either way, it was very clear that she did not seem to have any intentions of resolving this peacefully, as before Ume would have the chance to even mutter a word, Kimiko appeared before her in a single instant. There was no sound that preceded her movement or even so much of a hint that she actually moved at all: just a single afterimage left behind her wake and the Captain now standing in front of her, like she had outright teleported to a new location. This, however, would most likely not matter at all to Ume. What would matter instead was the sheer extent of the dark scarlet aura that was slowly rising from Kimiko's body again. Her spiritual energy was rising again, and the deafening tinnitus only confirmed this even further.
Her eyes were already bad from afar. However, from up close, their current gaze could only be described as being so much worse. She was staring down at the researcher at the researcher like predator over prey, with her eyes glowing with a horrifying thirst for blood. Her breathing somewhat accelerated as she seemed to ready herself for what was to come. And then, of course, there was the stench. Oh, the stench. The smell of blood on her person was so utterly potent that it could make anyone sick to the stomach from a whiff alone. Yet, somehow, her blades appeared to be completely untouched by it all. They appeared to have never been drawn throughout this entire incident, to have never been used in the slightest. There wasn't even a drop of red on their scabbards. It was impressive, all things considered. But then, it begged an important question regarding the death of the Shinigami on the grounds around them, or more specifically, about the way they were killed.
But it was doubtful that this question was going to be answered any time soon. Or at least, it was not going to be answered by Kimiko. She had other things in mind, from the looks of things, namely Ume's presence here. Those horrible scarlet eyes continued to stare down at the researcher, seemingly completely uncaring for the sword that she had. Then, suddenly, three words came out of her mouth in a quiet, yet wrathful tone:
"It was you."
Obviously, Kimiko didn't seem to be talking about who had actually killed the Shinigami. For all intents and purposes, she was conscious enough to understand that she was the one who had done the deed, even if it didn't seem as though that was quite true. Rather, it seemed as though she was accusing Ume of having sent the cleansing squads in this part of Rukongai. This was most likely because she was a member of the Twelfth Division, and most importantly, a member who would definitely not bring herself to this corner of the Soul Society without a good reason. But, in spite of the logic behind her accusation, there was most definitely an emotional response behind it all. There was no hiding that... which meant that Ume had to say something before this situation goes from bad to even worse.
