Benjiro grit his teeth and flexed his shoulder as the hollow's fingers dug deep into his flesh, the sharpness of its claws slicing through his skin like a hot knife through butter. If he wasn't careful, this could have been the end of him. He needed to end the fight long before that happened. The pain was intense, burning and searing into his mind as he had never felt something so painful before, and he could feel the warm blood flowing out of the wounds, staining his haori with deep, dark red, but he knew he had to push through the pain, he couldn't let it distract him from the task at hand. He knew he had to protect Furinji and he couldn't let his own pain get in the way, he had sworn to do his duty and defend all souls from danger, that was why he took up his Asauchi. He focused his mind and centered himself, despite the stinging from his left shoulder, circulating his reiatsu within himself to keep his body going. With a lifetime of meditation and practice, he had been able to look past the needs and wants of his body to a certain extent, and both pain and bleeding were included in that. He kept his eyes on the hollow, watching its movements and positioning himself in front of Furinji to act as a shield and defend her, and to act as a sword and purify the hollow. He could feel the pain aching at the fringes of his senses, but he couldn't let it consume him. He let out a deep breath and braced himself for the next onslaught of attacks, determined to protect Furinji and emerge victorious.
As Benjiro aligned the edge of his Asauchi with the mask of the hollow, the dog-like beast that was licking the fresh blood off of its fingers, the Shinigami thanked Buddha for the opportunity to meet and train with Gestalt. His words rung through his mind, reminding him of the lessons he had learned that day from the peace-loving man of war. The doctor, the priest, and the warrior wrapped into one. Those three aspects reminded him of what a Shinigami should have been, and he strived to achieve that balance in his fighting. Now was not the time for the priest or the doctor, now was the time for the warrior, and the best way to defend an innocent from the threat of enemies was to subdue the enemy from the beginning. With a clear mind, solid resolve, and the reiatsu pooling up inside of him, Benjiro lunged forward with all his might, transferring momentum and power from his body to his Asauchi. For the first time, it felt like his blade and his body were in tune with one another as the steel sung, cutting through the wind. It wasn't long before his Asauchi drew blood, as the hollow chose to attack instead of defend, it's massive palm coming in to break the blade. If Benjiro hadn't learned about the proper alignment of his blade, he was worried about what would have happened to his Asauchi.
Instead, the Asauchi sunk in deep into the hollow's palm, causing it to howl in pain. The shriek was unnatural in nature, hitting frequencies that he could not begin to understand, but all he could feel was resounding sorrow. It stung his heart to be trading blows with what was, in his mind, remnants of the folly of the Shinigami. This hollow was once a lost soul, one that needed guidance, but without a Shinigami to lead the way, all that was left was emptiness, and a hollow was formed from this pit of sorrow. He would grant it peace, he swore he would. After all, this was part of the duty of a Shinigami. As these thoughts steeled his resolve, he had just finished the incantation of Bakudo Number 9, Horin, in his mind, and the reiatsu had fully pooled inside of his body. The hollow struggled to rip its palm free of the blade, but Benjiro held firm, using his strength to counter the force of the hollow wherever he could. This tactic would not last forever though, but Benjiro knew that. He let go of the hilt of his Asauchi with his right hand, extending all five of his fingers out towards the canine hollow.
Suddenly, five threads of orange energy emerged from his fingertips, growing and extending up and around the hilt of Benjiro's Asauchi, using it as a fulcrum as it spiraled upwards. He anchored the blade into the hollow's flesh as the tendrils of orange energy grew thicker and brighter as they spun around the blade of the Asauchi, becoming thick like ropes before reaching the palm of the hollow. Despite its screams of agony, Benjiro's will remained strong as his Kido began to wrap around it, starting from the arm. The thick ropes of orange constrained and restricted the already damaged palm and forearm of the beast, prompting Benjiro to quickly pull his Asauchi out in case it would get stuck. Unfortunately for him, the hollow began to catch on and reacted immediately, bringing his other gargantuan palm around and slamming Benjiro's body straight on, the impact sending him flying off of the rooftop. The pain shot up through his spine, the sensation ringing through his brain only a moment after the initial hit, as if his brain struggled to comprehend the pain he was in, and even then he did not yet realize the danger he was about to face.
He was plummeting down from this rooftop to the road beneath him. Fortunately, it wasn't that far of a fall, so it was definitely survivable, just very painful. What he was more worried about was Furinji and how she would face the hollow while he was knocked away. As it stood now, the Horin was slowly making its way up the hollow's injured right arm and was gradually stretching around its shoulder and torso, but the hollow was already making its move, rushing forward in a desperate attempt to consume the only meal left available to it. Furinji.
