"Mayday! This is Vice Captain Connor Greaves of Squad Nine! Requesting emergency backup! The target is- AGH-" Radio static is the only answer from that point onwards.

Moving throughout Karakura had been something they’d been sent to do, not just moving quick and small although they were exceptional at such things, no the life of those living was what they were seeking and they’d accomplished that . . . for now. What had come out from the sewers were small grey little things that had a tendency to laugh and scratch. An unknown amount of humans had already been taken by the time the Shinigami had figured out something was going on and by the time they got there even more had been taken without a doubt. That group though they had been led by someone powerful indeed it hadn’t mattered.
A sneak attack from behind by one of the small grey things, a deceptive strike to the back of the head and everything was darkness. Now though the light of consciousness would be returning to that same Shinigami, yet the light of the sun wouldn’t be present. He along with his team and a couple of humans were being dragged through a tunnel with no light. All he’d hear were the chuckles of small things dragging him by his uniform at the back of the neck. His clothing soaked in sewer liquid while his nose was assaulted by the scent all around him.

As for the group of Shinigami that were cast out as backup, this was no laughing matter. Enough humans had been captured that a Captain was being sent to handle the situation along with a Third Seat from a different Division. Inc won the scene in Karakura the Shinigami would immediately be able to pick up the signs of battle. Shops with broken windows, deep scratch marks on buildings, sidewalks, even the road was covered in them. It was like a nest of rats with knives for feet had come rushing out from the sewers. Blood covered more than two blocks of the road like a Jackson Pollock painting.
These two were the only Shinigami on the scene with two others from each division accompanying them. It was up to them at the moment to figure out what exactly had gone on here, where the first team had gone along with all the humans that had been captured based on what they had been told. Above all else though one thing would be on everyone’s mind. . . What in the hell were these things and why were they doing this?
(Sorry for the delay. Celes and Albin are in the same posting group while Connor can post freely whenever he wants.)
Making sure everything went smoothly from their time within the Senkaimon, Albin kept himself on high alert. Being the first real time he'd been given the opportunity to escort a group like this since he joined his Squad, he felt good. Something about actively taking part in his Squad's duties, putting into practice everything that he'd been taught since joining Squad 13 (technically again, but that's beside the point) filled the boy with quite a notable sense of fulfillment. If nothing else, it was a good start to an otherwise horrific experience.
"And, here we are," he spoke aloud, though somewhat talking to himself, "northern Karakura Town. Reports from a Vice Captain Greaves come from somewhere around here." Turning his attention toward the captain currently in charge of the excursion, Albin gave Celes a smile. "Captain Shindazu, if it's all right with you, we can begin examining the scene immediately." Even despite the somewhat friendly terms he was on with the girl, Albin knew first-hand that keeping things professional while on duty was likely for the best. He didn't exactly want anyone from the other divisions to think he was getting any special treatment.
Assuming she signed off on his excursions, Albin immediately went to work, and put his analyzing skills to the test. Taking a moment to examine the scene to the best of his abilities, he made a mental note of just about anything he could find; the blood, the tracks, and the general devastation within the marketplace. Just seeing everything like this filled him with a sense of dread. Gods, he thought to himself, these poor folks didn't deserve any of this.
Shaking his head and trying to keep his mind from wandering too far, the boy got back to work for the next twenty minutes or so; marking down any bit of information he could from the scene, purifying any stray souls that found themselves caught up in the attacks nearby, and trying to play "damage control" as best he could. Truth be told, it wasn't the most difficult all things considered, seeing as everything had taken place long enough ago that he wasn't inherently worried about an incoming threat.
After a short while, he did what he could to seek out Celes. Reporting information was likely going to be the best option here. "Captain Shindazu!" He exclaimed upon seeing her, looking to get her attention. Assuming she wasn't busy, he'd continue. Otherwise he'd wait for her to finish what she was doing. "I've done what I could to scope out the damages thus far. We estimate somewhere between eight to ten Shinigami casualties, with an unknown margin in regards to Human life as well. As far as what happened to the rest of the team that was sent here originally, we're still trying to figure things out. We've found a trail leading just south of here, but it's presumed dangerous so we've yet to fully investigate it. What would you like to happen?"

Walking through the Senkaimon was always something that Celes found interesting, but usually wanted to get over with. Though the Jigokuchō that Soul Society used prevented chance encounters with the Dangai, Celes still did not like testing fate. After all, there could be mistakes in any system. Thankfully, Celes was in good company. Three of her finest Unseated Officers were behind her and leading the pack was Albin Landry, recently promoted to Third Seat of the Thirteenth Division. With his help, passage through the Senkaimon would go off without a hitch. Celes always did appreciate the Thirteenth Division. Aside from their duties which mainly dealt in transportation, Camila was once a member of the Thirteenth. In some strange way, Albin seemed like a blast from the past given his relationship to Camila. Celes was... hesitant about him, but he had shown himself to be compassionate and trustworthy. This was all that Celes needed.
As they continued through the Senkaimon, making excellent time, Celes ran through her orders one more time. The situation was unclear. For some time now, humans had been seemingly randomly plucked from the streets. It seemed to be entirely at random. The only trace left was some strange liquid that led into the sewers. As a result, Soul Society sent out a squadron of Shinigami to assess the situation. If the threat showed itself, they were tasked to neutralize it. The squadron would never return. The only message received was an eerie one. "Mayday! This is Vice Captain Connor Greaves of Squad Nine! Requesting emergency backup! The target is- AGH-" Celes' orders were clear. This had become a rescue mission. They were to find the missing squadron and retrieve them.
Soon the group would find themselves leaving the Senkaimon. Albin began to announce their destination, sounding somewhat like a flight attendant. "And, here we are," Celes certainly got a chuckle out of it. "northern Karakura Town. Reports from a Vice Captain Greaves come from somewhere around here." That name was instantly familiar to Celes. Not only did he send the request for backup before going silent, but Celes had attempted to spar with him once. While it did not lead anywhere due to the untold destruction that they had caused at the time, Celes had a lot of respect for the Vice Captain of the Ninth Division. Just like her, he had attained Bankai even as a Vice Captain. More than that, Celes had a responsibility. As the Captain of the Tenth, her official duties were strictly relegated to Soul Society but to her, she swore to protect anyone who needed their help. She would not fail them.
Leaving the Senkaimon, the members of the Tenth would remain somewhat close to Celes. This was, after all, some of the first field experience that they would ever get. In some ways it was cruel. A mission that not even a Lieutenant made it back from. Regardless, she was short on staff. Arantima was hard to track down and Wynne even more so. This was all she had. Yet she had faith in them. Now it was time to focus on the mission. As Albin turned to Celes, she hummed softly. "Captain Shindazu, if it's all right with you, we can begin examining the scene immediately." Celes flinched ever so slightly upon being referred to as "Captain Shindazu". She was not big on the formality of her position. She would not let it bother her now though. At least, not yet.
"That would be prudent, Albin." She smiled, looking at those of her Division. "Fan out. Try to cover as much of the scene as you can. If you find something, report it back. Additionally, and I will stress this..." Her voice grew much more serious. "If you encounter whatever did this, do not engage alone if you can absolutely avoid it." Her voice would become much gentler once more. "Connor, a Vice Captain, went missing. While I don't doubt any of your abilities, I want to try and avoid further losses." The members of her Division all nodded. "Yes Captain Celes!" They all roared out in unison, fanning out. Celes herself would begin to make her way around the scene as Albin seemed to move out to conduct his own investigation.
Celes was no Sherlock Holmes. She did not have the ability to vividly notice subtle details that are normally present at crime scenes. She was, however, a seasoned veteran of battle. Bits of flesh and blood that scattered the area. Marks of swords and other signs of battle would fall on her radar. She definitely knew when someone put up a struggle. She could tell that the fight was short and brutal. Almost as if they were caught off-guard. Celes sighed, shaking her head. She was not on high alert given the time between events, but she was cautious. After a few minutes of skimming the area, looking for any signs of battle that could give an idea to the scale of what they were dealing with, Celes heard a voice call out to her. "Captain Shindazu!" Celes flinched ever so slightly again as she turned to Albin who was running at her.
"Please, just keep it to Captain Celes if you need to be formal." She chuckled somewhat. "I never did like the formality of Captaincy." She sighed. "Oh well. Found anything?" Albin would swiftly and precisely report back his findings.
The report was not very reassuring. They had a lead, but it was like walking through an ominous black gate. Celes thought about it for a moment. She'd call out to her officers, given that the scene seemed somewhat small. "Tenth Division. Fall in!" As she waited for them to hopefully return, Celes turned her attention to Albin. "Well. I've to admit that we are lift with little options. I'd definitely like to investigate that trail. Our first priority should be to recover the missing Squadron. Additionally, given the loss of human life, the dead may also require our assistance." She sighed for a moment before returning her attention to Albin once more. "What are your recommendations for proceeding, Albin?" Celes always liked to hear the counsel of those she worked with. She found that even the weakest officer could foster great judgement and creativity. She was eager to see if Albin had any recommendations.

Further investigation of the scene by Division Thirteen would find a lot of the same, more scratch marks through the pavement and cement of the sidewalk, some more blood that if they felt directly they’d be able to tell was both human and spiritual. So not only had humans been attacked, but the first team of Shinigami had definitely been in combat and most likely taken as well. As they got closer and closer to the sewer cap they’d notice the cap itself wasn’t actually in position. It had been taken out of its hole and was on top of the pavement with only a portion of it over the hole.
Getting within ten feet of the sewer though would be enough that anyone was able to smell the repulsive scent. Thirteen was transportation mainly while Ten dealt with defense. Neither one of them usually dealt with the sewers of Seireitei, otherwise they might have realized that this scent was far too nauseating even for a typical sewer in the human world. Something else inside the hole was giving off this scent, but would anyone have the knowledge to tell that?
Celes the commanding officer of the situation would feel something, something no one else would be able to pick up on, movement! It’d feel as if something was scuttling on the ground beneath her feet. Almost like rats moving along the floor of a metal cage, their tiny little nails rattling against the metal. Hearing it though and figuring out what was going on were two different things so what was going to happen to this second team of Shinigami?

There was a reason Connor had joined this mission to the Human World. He could still remember that day against the chimera spider-ants well, having nearly died several times to those unholy abominations. The product of a warped and twisted mind intent on playing God. This reminded him so much of that failed mission. The creator had never been found, and some of the monstrosities had managed to escape. He had spent months keeping his ear to the ground, so to speak, and yet, he had found nothing. The sins against nature had never resurfaced, and he had never gotten the chance to put an end to them.
When he heard about a strange creature, hiding in the sewers he had decided to join in the investigation, hoping he might get a second chance, however unlikely it was for the two situations to be related. Instead of gigantic bugs, it was something smaller, but much faster than the ants had ever been. Connor had tried to fight it off with his squad, but the creature was more than his team could handle. It was not one by one that they fell, but several at a time. Connor had managed to deflect what he thought was a killing blow, using his Purification Blade to catch the attack.
He tried to get a good look at this thing, but it was already moving after the failed strike. The Vice Captain wanted to say he put up a halfway decent fight, but that would have been a lie. Connor felt a strike impact the back of his neck, and the world faded to darkness. He faded in and out of consciousness, but he could feel himself being dragged by the back of his collar through the disgusting sewer tunnel. Or, that was where he guessed he was, based on the smell. He could see his Purification Blade, fallen to the ground underneath the manhole cover, the silvery moonlight draping it in an ethereal sheen.
Connor tried to rouse himself from the stupor he had been forced into, but his eyelids were heavy, closing steadily, and his body felt like it was made of led. As much as he wanted to, his body would not yet respond to his commands. After a second longer, he passed out once again. He could not guess how much time had passed when he next awoke, but he could no longer see the place where he and his captor had entered these disgusting tunnels. What he could tell, however, was that his body was more responsive than it had been. He waited for the right moment, flexing his hands open and closed... before he moved.
He ripped open his shihakusho, and used Shunpo to flash away from the monster. He turned to face his captor, Tamashī unsheathed in his hand. He could not afford to hold back against this abomination, especially after what had just happened. He touches his face, trying to adjust his mask, only to realize it was no longer there. It must have fallen off at some point. Grumbling at the loss, he holds his Zanpakuto at a defensive stance, still not feeling at a hundred percent. He turns to run, ready and willing to start unleashing the might of Tamashī in the enclosed space. He needs to find a manhole to try and escape out of.

This entire situation seemed a bit eerie to the Captain of the Tenth. The scratch marks, the message, the blood... it all hinted to a brutal battle. The intel that they had on the situation wasn't detailed either. All they knew is that a team of Shinigami had gotten attacked... that they were strong enough to potentially incapacitate a Vice Captain... and now, according to Albin, there was an ominous trail that had yet to be pursued. The blonde-haired Shinigami gripped her Zanpakutō tightly. Hopefully Albin would have something to reassure her? The Woman turned towards Albin and waited for his opinion on the matter. After all, she trusted his counsel.
Unfortunately, as he began to talk, Celes' attention would be diverted. It was subtle, but she could sense it just barely. She was not quite sure what it was, but it was unmistakable. Something was definitely beneath their feet. The Captains' entire demeanor would change. She became far more tense. On edge. "Whatever attacked them... is it still around?" It was of great concern to Celes. Her lack of attentiveness would be clear as day. "Captain? Is everything alright?" Albin's inquiry drew her from her stupor. Staring at the Third Seat with a hint of concern, her own Division would return. The Captain had a decision to make and she needed to make it fast.
Celes closed her eyes and hummed for a moment. She felt a kinship to all those present, and it was that connection that would guide her next moves. As she spoke, her voice would be surprisingly firm. She sounded less like a friend and more like a superior officer. "Listen. All of you. I want you all to spread out and handle crowd control." She gently tapped her fingers on the hilt of her Zanpakutō. One of her own would immediately pipe up. "Excuse me, Captain. How will that help us find the missing Shinigami?" Celes turned her head, her amber eyes meeting those of her subordinate. "It wont. I want to avoid further casualties, Shinigami or not..." She'd take a deep breath before clarifying. "I'm going at it alone."
What Celes was suggesting... it was crazy! Hell, even she knew it was insane. "Captain. An entire group was wiped out! Even a Vice Captain among them! You ca-" Celes took a single step, nearly vanishing from sight. She closed the distance between herself and the girl so quickly that she barely had time to blink. "Exactly right. It is for that reason that I am ordering you all to withdraw and handle crowd control. Now, are you going to question my order again, Officer Morgan?" The intensity that was radiating from the Captain would be enough to make Morgan recoil. "N-no. Captain Celes!" The Shinigami nodded and Celes allowed herself to settle. She took a deep breath as Celes withdrew from her space.
As she spoke, she'd be very clear to address everyone, but Albin. "Listen carefully. You are to assure that this space remains clear. I don't want another soul besides myself near here." They nodded, giving Celes a familiar salute. With that, they'd all disappear from sight with a Shunpo. Shifting gears, Celes would now turn to Albin. "As for you. I want you to return to Soul Society. I am not prepared to jeopardize someone who's not one of my own." Celes understood that this was foolhardy. If needed, she would use her authority once more, but it would be clear that this wouldn't be necessary. Of course, Celes had her own motives for sending Albin away.
Thankfully, the Third Seat would give her little pushback and opened up a Senkaimon to leave the scene. Now, she was alone. Taking a deep breath, Celes tried to listen for any more sounds. If she heard some, she'd try to follow them to the best of her abilities. If, however, the movement had stopped, then Celes would proceed to the trail that Albin had mentioned prior. Perhaps that could give her more insight into the situation and more importantly... track down her quarry. If the latter was the case, Celes would disappear with a Shunpo, moving just south from her present location to find the trail. A fire burned in her eyes as she silently prayed for her fellow Shinigami who were captured.

Jeff heard a major commotion earlier, at the time he was to busy to pay it much time. Sadly it seemed this was a mistake, for outside of the building he was in the Saika could hear some parents screaming frantically for their kids. This wouldn't do, he couldn't have it on his conscience that he let kids die. Moving to leave the building he runs up into the air using air ground, getting on top of some buildings before running to where he heard most of the earlier commotion.
Stopping short Jeff noticed a group of Shinigami down below, one of them looking to be a captain even. Whatever happened it must have been bad if a Captain was here to solve the problem. Though whenever a Childs in jeopardy that's easily enough in his mind to have someone captain level deal with it. Not wanting to give away his true identity he snaps his right fingers, doing so he can feel his bones crunch as his body shrinks and changes to that of a woman's.
With the transformation complete Jeff looks down and spots the mostly uncovered manhole cover, That must be where any captives were taken, if I find out kids were killed I'll slaughter those responsible. With that thought he sends reiatsu into the gate seal, causing his feet to blaze up in flames that don't actually seem to scorch anything. The pain of burning is still there but that's all, so with Hell Step activated Jeff launches himself forward at 3000 speed.
Usually when Jeff does this he creates a doorway in which he can jump to another place he can see, this time he decides to just use it for a burst of speed. With that speed he heads straight to and into the sewer, not caring if danger lies ahead. Once he enters he'll look around to see if any threats must be dealt with, or if there aren't any he would look for clues to see which direction the kids might have been taken.

Getting out of the clutches of those that had managed to bring him down and had been dragging him through the sewer Connor would find wasn;t something super difficult. The small hands that had been dragging him couldn’t hold on to his much larger body once he actually had the strength to pull himself away. Perhaps he’d have to believe executing Shunpo had helped him get away, but in reality the things that had brought him down weren’t the most blessed when it comes to physical strength. Now though Connor standing in the sewer tunnel would get to see those that had managed to bring him down for the first time. Things that had scurried away the moment he got up to his feet moving into the shadows.
The small child sized bodies of gray would only start to come into view slowly as they inch closer essentially on top of one another, one aspect Connor would be able to see though even in the depths of the shadows in this tunnel, the amber eyes. Although the tunnel was dark there were lights stationed throughout for the maintenance crews of Karakura yet for some reason they were actually on. These lights would give anyone enough sight to navigate throughout and now would give Connor his first view as the bleak child-like monsters come into view. Six of them staring at Connor with some of them actually drooling.
These things didn’t look like any of the spiritual races, perhaps they could be Hollows, but they were all identical with no mask. Readying himself for combat against them now Connor would have to worry about unleashing his plague of a zanpakuto as he wasn’t the only shinigami in the tunnel. The others who’d been captured five of them, all unconscious, left within the twenty feet of space between Connor and whatever these things happened to be. Could he really fight them without killing the others? He’d have to weigh his options as the small group rush forward at full speed only for the sewer water to burst a moment later as one comes up beside Connor, bringing down a small dagger at his right foot intending to pierce through crippling him.
Celes would have to make her choice soon with how to approach the situation especially as Jeff rushes into the sewer right past her, even moving at such a high speed the Captain was likely to witness at least the blur of his movement. Leaving the rest of the second unit to cover the area in order to prevent these things from capturing anyone else? It wasn’t a bad choice, but would it work, or would these creatures just pop up from a different manhole cover? Could these other shinigami even stop them if they did spot them? So much was in the dark so the only way to figure things out would be to press forward. As for Jeff, well the moment they got into the sewer they’d heard the same scurrying that Celes had been able to hear. Would he move towards the noise or go in the opposite direction? Which way led to Connor?
