Thread Title: It's Abount Time Participants: Luke and Vesta World: Human World Death Setting: Non Death Enabled Rating: R Location: Special Conditions: Circumstances:
You know it was really weird. Ever since Luke moved to Karakura Town his life had just become one big dramatic mess. Attacks from drooling monsters, attacks from drooling Quincy, attacks from...well...a lot of things. Life had become one huge battle. On top of all that he even found out that he was, technically, a vampire like entity. No, sorry. The source of all the vampire folklore aka a Bount. Add on top of that a duo of chattery assholes in his head and Luke could certainly say that Karakura had become one hell of a headache. But the weird thing was...that after joining up with Uzaki Enterprise that all just seemed to stop. After having accepted the invitation to the company given to him by Marcus, Luke figured that his new life as a employed hero would be filled with...well more than it currently was.
Sure, he had the occassional Hollow to deal with every couple of days but so far things had been...quiet. Very quiet. Like Luke was concerned he had woken up into some sort of twilight zone version of Karakura Town where it was a normal city and not Disney Land for freaks. With how little had been happening, Luke had begun getting bored. While he had been recently promoted into to a Senior Employee, it was because of his apparent battle strength and not for any desk job related matters. Hell, Luke didn't even do that sort of work at Uzaki. He was incredibly focused on his job of being a "hero". Any time there was any sort of blip of a Hollow he'd be the one of the first responders, trying his hardest to get to the affected area first.
But with how quiet it was...Luke decided to do something else to pass the time. He was going to follow up on a suggestion that Kazura made. While the Bount normally worked the night shift, not showing up at UE's main building until after the sun had set, he decided against doing the normal thing today. Felt nice having the sun on his skin. But he didn't get to feel the warm light for long. He found himself beneath the sprawling skyscraper, deep underground in one of the training gyms. The Bount sat quietly on a bench at one end of the gym, resting his eyes as he waited for his guest to show up. Well, if she did show up.
See, Kazura had suggested that Luke meet with a certain someone. And that someone was someone Luke had already met before. Vesta. Kazura made the comment that Luke should look into sparring with Vesta, saying how she could give him quite the good fight. Luke decided, since it was so quiet around Karakura the past few days, to forward a request to Vesta for her to meet him here. He made it obvious he was wanting to spar with her. It wasn't a any sort of rude challenge either. "Hey Vesta, it's Luke. Turns out we'll be working together from now on. Small city, eh? While I'd love to catch up, maybe go grab a bite to eat with the other coworkers, I wanted to ask you to spar with me. The Boss talked a bit about how fun it was for him to fight you, and I've never fought another Bount before. So, yeah, just message me back if you're game."
Okay, so, Luke lied. He actually had forgotten while typing that message that he had that little thing with Timor that resulted in the loss of his left arm. The Bount let out a sigh, looking at what remained of his left arm. Wiggling the stump a little, Luke pulled on the shoulder of his sleeveless hoodie to get it back in position. Still felt weird being armless. His swordsmanship hadn't quite recovered yet either. Well, regardless, Luke had been lucky and not been forced into a situation where his lack of a arm would do him in. If push came to shove, he had his Dolls. Speaking of whom, Luke was enjoying a rare moment of quiet from them. Both were apparently napping. That was a first. It just meant that Luke had the quiet of his own thoughts to keep him company as he waited for Vesta.

Vesta's time in Karakura Town has been fairly interesting so far in her young life. Since moving here, she learned of a power that resided inside her that was given to her at birth. The power to summon a Doll, which was given to her by her father. He had decided to not tell her about this power until she was faced with a strong enemy, something called a Hollow. It found her and decided that she was going to be its next meal.
Faced with a thing she had never seen before, she heard a strong voice inside her. Thinking it was her father, it was actually Zorn, her Doll ready to be used against the enemy that was in front of her. She followed the directions and then Zorn appeared. He lunged at the Hollow and was able to defeat it rather easily. He then walked up to her and curled protectively around her. She never understood why he just accepted her.
Was it because of something he saw in her that no one else did? She always wondered and Zorn never answered her. She would just think about it randomly from time to time. Then, when she met Jin, he opened the rest of the world to her. He told her about using reiatsu, which seems to be what she had been using to summon Zorn and use her 'other' powers. She learned a technique and it seemed that Jin was glad to help her get better at just being a Bount.
From him, she also learned about the chains that were on her body. She was what was called a Nakabakki. The chains marked her as a 'sinner,' someone that had escaped Hell. She, of course, had never been there, but it seems that one of her parents had to be from there. It wasn't until she grilled her father that she found out that her mother was someone her father had met and given birth to her. He didn't know anything else, but she had to be this 'sinner' that Jin talked about.
She was able to form the chains into a ring on her hand, so they weren't an eyesore anymore, but her chest was still slightly red and the markings were still there. It was a constant reminder of what she was and thanks to Jin, she controlled her power now. The 'other' that lived inside her that called itself Death. Jin then directed her to Uzaki Enterprises, where she was hired and promoted.
Receiving the letter from Luke she definitely wasn't expecting. She had met the fellow Bount a few days before, surprising him where he lived and surprising her with not knowing Jin. Maybe everyone didn't know about him, but she just assumed all Bounts knew about him. So, he was now working in the same organization that she was and he wanted to spar with her? Kazura told him about their fight as well? She was curious about how much he had actually told him, like how she changed to Death and was able to hit him in the side with some of her rot.
Never fighting another Bount before? Well, she had only sparred with Jin before, so maybe that was a leg up? She doubted it, but you never know. She would immediately message him back. "Hey Luke! Sure, I'm game to spar, you just let me know when." Once the day arrived, she got ready at her house and looked at the new jewelry that her father had given her. She looked at it and felt something....different when she looked at it.
Placing it on her left arm, she looked at it slightly before summoning Zorn and running off towards UE headquarters. When she got there, she jumped off Zorn and ran towards the front desk, Zorn trailing behind her. She asked where Luke was and they directed her towards where he was. She nodded, jumped back on Zorn and ran off to find Luke. She saw Luke and ran straight up to him. Zorn would boop him with his snout to get his attention. "HEY LUKE! How are you doing today? So, with Mister Kazura telling you about his spar with him, how much did he actually tell you about it?"
Thanks to Energy Sensory Luke sensed her before he saw her. Well, it was more than just her he sensed. Alongside Vesta's energy signature he felt the presence of her Doll, Zorn. She had already summoned him? Luke needed to remember that, unlike him, Vesta really enjoyed letting her Doll out. Hers was much more behaved than his own were. "I'm the definition of well behaved!" Jäger replied in protest. "You're the definition of idiocy." Springflut replied. Ignoring the two as they started arguing, Luke wasn't surprised when he suddenly heard the sound of a giant lightning tiger running up to him and then suddenly booping him with its nose. Opening his eyes, Luke couldn't help but smile as Vesta just came right up to him.
Hearing her greeting, Luke reached over and gently placed a hand on top of her head and rubbed her hair for a moment. "Hey squirt." Luke greeted with a smile before getting to his feet, removing his only remaining hand from her head. He was glad to see her in good health, even if they only just barely knew each other. Their last meeting had been awkward. Very awkward actually. The entirety of their last meeting had been a back and forth between "Jin said this" and "who is Jin? What do you want"'s. Really it wasn't the best first meeting between people. But, regardless, they had separated on good terms. Maybe not friends, but certainly well meaning acquaintances. "And hello to you, Zorn." Luke greeted the Doll with a smile and nod, despite his general discomfort with being so close to the giant lightning tiger.
Returning his attention to Vesta, he blinked when she asked him just how much Kazura had explained to him about her. Those light blue eyes blinked softly as he thought back to what Kazura had said to him regarding Vesta. "I'll be honest. I employ some individuals that would not be accepted into certain other societies. For example, there is a Bount here that has parentage that is half Bount half... I'm not sure what. I haven't thought about asking her since it seemed a bit private. However, sparring with her is a blast if you ever get the chance..." And that was it. Luke remembered the words rather well. To answer her question though, "He only explained that you're half Bount and half something else. It simply came up when I was giving him my reiatsu sample." Luke explained.
But, there was more to the reason he wanted to spar with Vesta. When last they met she had let some of what was hidden inside of her slip out. He remembered it vividly. He remembered the cold chill that travelled down his spine when he saw those blazing eyes. It was the same sensation he'd felt not long before that moment. He'd experienced that same primal fear from Vesta as he had from Timor when she had used whatever dark power laid hidden in those hands of hers. Luke, upon meeting Vesta, had become interested in figuring out just what that power was. Was it dangerous? Was it evil? Could it be used for good? How did it affect the host? Just what was that power? Luke didn't have any of the answers to any of his questions.
But instead of simply going to Timor, he decided to turn to Vesta for answers. Maybe clashing swords with her would give him the answers he was looking for? Plus, besides that, Luke just wanted to both fight against another Bount and get to know Vesta a bit better. He had a couple reasons for being here. "So don't worry. He didn't spill any beans about you that you didn't want him too. Besides, whatever your other half is ain't that much concern to me. I'm half human myself. Mutts are just more unique than the pure bloods, you know?" Luke said with a smile and shrug as he rested his sheathed Zanpakuto against his shoulder and began walking to the other end of the gym.
Turning to face her once he was some distance away, Luke let his sword sheaths tip touch the laminated hard wood floor. "Also, don't go holding back against me. I'm tough enough to take what you can dish. I want to see the girl who gave the Boss a run for his money." Luke said, smirking. He didn't want Vesta holding back against him just because he had one arm. That wouldn't be fun, and it would make Luke rather upset.

Vesta smiled as she saw Luke open his eyes. But, what he did next, putting his hand on her head was okay. When he ruffled her hair a little bit, she groaned slightly and stuck her tongue out at him. He called her a squirt and stood up. It wasn't until he fully stood up and removed his hand that she saw he only had one hand left. She just stared at him, looking between his full arm and his stubby arm rather quickly. What the heck happened?
He then said hello to Zorn, who nodded his head in return. "Hello to you as well, Luke. I hope you have been well since our last meeting." Vesta had warned Zorn before they got here that he needed to be on his best behavior. Thankfully, he was doing very well with it and she petted him in approval. After she had asked her question, it seemed like he was trying to figure out how to answer.
So, it seemed that Kazura did tell Luke that she was half Bount and half something else, but not what the other half was or what powers she had. She was happy for that. But, what was said next made Vesta smile again. He didn't care what her other half is, since he was half human. Mutts are more unique than pure bloods made her smile bigger. He was like Jin in that regard, he didn't care about her other half. He got a lot more points for that comment.
A sword was at his shoulder, sheathed, while he walked away from her. Wait, what?! He has a sword now!? What the heck had happened to him after they had met up? He must've been through the ringer. But, what she was really curious about was the sword. She didn't think that Bount had any other weapons besides their Dolls. She doesn't have one and neither did Jin. But, then again, she didn't know a lot of other Bounts to compare this to.
Once he reached the other side, before she said anything, he said to not hold anything back against him and he wanted to fight the person that gave the Boss a run for his money. She didn't think she was THAT good, but it was nice to hear it from someone. She jumped off Zorn's back and stood where she was, Zorn walking to face Luke as well. She had so many questions to ask and she figured that she needed to ask them now before they started.
"Well Luke, I have some questions first. One, HOW IN THE HELL DID YOU LOSE YOUR ARM?!?! I'm pretty sure that you had both of them when we met and now you're down one. Did you like lose it fighting Mister Kazura? Did you stick your hand in a blender while it was still on? Two, WHEN DID YOU GET A SWORD?! I didn't think that Bounts could have other weapons besides their Doll. I'm slightly confused. Though, that sword reminds me of a shinigami sword. I know a few of those."
When he mentioned not holding back, she felt pricking at the back of her mind. She fought it off until she finished her questions. You heard what he said, little Vesta. He doesn't want us to hold back. That Kazura person was an interesting fight and I actually got him! Seeing him get hit with my power was addicting. Let me loose on him. When you let my power go last time, something changed in him. I promise I won't purposefully hurt him too bad.
Vesta visibly rolled her eyes at that. She didn't trust Death that much, but Death put Kazura to the limit and since Luke didn't want to her to hold back, it would make sense. They talked a bit more and when Vesta felt more secure to let Death out, she nodded. "If you don't want me to hold back, very well then." She nodded and let her demon reiatsu flare up slightly.
The next thing that would happen is that smoke would start to form around her. The same kind of smoke would flare around Zorn as well. Zorn would take a deep breath and he would change. His body would turn black with yellow stripes flaring with electrical energy. He would start to growl and roar in Luke's direction. Vesta would be covered in smoke and then when she appeared again, her skin was white with black scrawling on her body and face with a new outfit.
With the semblance of floating, three Nether orbs sprang into existence and started to slowly float around her in a circle. She would put a hand into one of the Nether orbs and pull out her own sword and smirk at Luke. "So! This is the Luke that Vesta has talk about before. I figured I should even the playing field since you have a sword too. They call me Death, by the way. I can't stay out long, but I'm sure we'll have fun before I leave."

"Oh, this?" Luke asked, looking surprised for a moment before letting out a slightly chuckle as he wiggled his left stump some. He chuckled, looking at the stump for a moment, wondering if he should give her the whole story or a half truth. "I lost it trying to save someone." Luke answered. It was a half truth. It was true he lost his arm trying to save someone...but he ended up fighting that someone and taking her own arm when she took his. But no, Luke didn't lose it fighting Kazura like Vesta had asked. Luke wasn't even sure if he'd ever even spar with Kazura. It felt odd to him to spar against his boss. The idea of it just felt unprofessional. But Luke was still, more or less, learning the ropes of Uzaki Enterprise. He was sure to be in for a few surprises now and again.
Vesta continued pestering him with questions about his arm, before finally shifting the focus of those questions to now be about his sword. Blinking, once again, with surprise and confusion, Luke wasn't really sure how to respond to that one. "A friend gave it to me. And why wouldn't a Bount be able to use other weapons? If you were to pick up a stick and start swinging it you'd have yourself a new weapon as well. You shouldn't let other peoples opinion on Bount warp your own thoughts. Hell, I've thought of getting myself a gun license and bringing a firearm with me when I go out on patrol." Luke replied. He wasn't sure why Vesta thought Bount could only use Dolls. Did she think they were incapable of learning how to use a weapon?
But what Vesta said was right. There was a reason his sword would remind her of a Shinigami's Zanpakuto. Because it was one. A Zanpakuto, given to him by his teacher, with its own name and release. Mūnran'nā was its name. As Aevus explained to Luke, the sword was an artificial version of what Shinigami normally possessed. It had no soul, only a name and power. It paled in comparison to a real Zanpakuto. But that was fine. Luke wasn't a Shinigami. He was fine with having an Artificial Zanpakuto. It was his own power. While his Dolls could technically also be called his own power, Luke preferred doing things with his own hands. He had come to realize that he just wasn't very good at being a Bount.
He shifted a little when he noticed Vesta suddenly roll her eyes, followed by her stating her intent. The Bount watched, calmly, with analyzing eyes. What was she going to do? He didn't need to ask that question. Within moments that reiatsu he'd felt from her at the bar, and from Timor, suddenly flared up. His eyes widened as he recognized that cold chill once again. A primal discomfort that put him on edge. Narrowing those blue eyes, Luke watched as the girl was consumed in a obscuring black smog. Not just her, but Zorn as well. "It's affecting the Doll as well?" Springflut asked. Luke wasn't aware he was even watching, or awake. "Hey hey! Isn't using that power already a little fast??" Jäger questioned as Luke flicked the sheath off of his sword.
"Cast away, Mūnran'nā." Luke whispered, and with a small cost of reiatsu activated the transformation of his sword. The silver steel of the blade itself began to illuminate with a blue light. Like the sword, the bottom of Lukes feet began glowing as well. The sword itself changed shape as well. Staring ahead at Zorn, Luke narrowed his eyes at the Dolls change in appearance. It appeared more feral. More...demonic, guess would be the word for it. Frowning, Luke felt himself steeling up. He kinda wished he had his left arm. Finally he saw Vestas new form. Yeah...they're the same.. Luke concluded.
What was odd was the fact that there seemed to be a new personality talking to him. "Death? That's not a very unique name. Still, better than a name like Impossible." Luke commented with a smirk, watching as whatever this Death was draw a sword from one of the three floating orbs that had appeared. She seemed to be waiting for him. Fine. Luke didn't mind walking into the tigers jaws. "Hmph. Here's hoping I break a sweat." Luke poked, before he began to simply walk towards Vesta and Zorn. He realized now he made the right call with waking up Mūnran'nā. He was facing two releases here, and he wasn't certain that he'd be able to handle Vesta and her Doll as he did Timor and her own.
"Luke let me out! I wanna play with the kitty!" Jäger begged, but was ignored by the Bount. "Hush Jäger. If anyone gets to fight it will be me. I want to test my strength against another Doll." Springflut wanted to fight? That was different. He only wanted to fight the very strongest of opponents. If Luke was to summon him against an opponent that Springflut felt was a waste of his time, he'd turn his attention on Luke. At least he threatened to. Luke had never been in that situation. But we'll see. Luke wasn't sure about summoning anyone just yet.
With the fight now starting, and Death giving Luke the opening move, he decided to go for it. Once he'd taken three steps, Luke would suddenly vanish. He started small, using Movement to close the gap between him and...Zorn! He chose not to go after Vesta first. He chose to go at Zorn first. Bursting ahead at 3x his normal speeds, Luke would reappear before Zorn with that glowing blade in motion.

Remaining Reiatsu: 6775 / 7000 -200 for Release -25 for Movement
{Artificial Zanpakuto} “Cast away, Mūnran'nā” (Cast away, Moon Runner) is the call out phrase. a bright white light emanates from the artifical blade and the soles of the user's feet also gives off the same light. emitting the very same light as his blade. The blade pulls the user back, up, or forwards at twice their own physical speed and three times their own physical strength by an invisible force latent in the reiatsu under the soles of the user's feet, up to a maximum of ten yards, user's mental choice. It costs 200 reiatsu to release, while the ability costs 100 reiatsu to use and can only be done once a post. Also lasts for 7 posts.
Furthermore, the light can, for an additional 50 reiatsu during the aforementioned movement, become extremely blinding to those who gaze upon it even out of their peripherals. Those blinded by the light will have very blurry vision for their next post. It is worth mention that even without this blinding effect, the light from both the blade and soles of the feet are very painful to look at except for the user.
What makes this deadly is that, once per post for 100 reiatsu, separate from the movement portion of this power, the force that would normally be exerted on the user can be released as a large offensive blast of air, either from the held blade or the soles of the user's feet. If someone is struck by this force, then not only are they in danger from the natural effects of the power, but they have been "marked," and those marked can, for 100 reiatsu, once per time being marked, be pulled or pushed forward, backward, up, or down by the same force that exerts over the user for the original portion of the technique.

Death waited and watched to see what Luke would do. It seemed to her that his fur was already ready in case the man touched him and she saw his lightning net start to form. Since he was pre-released before this fight even started, the net was held back. Now that he was transformed to a 'demon mode' and there was someone actively trying to get to them, the net showed itself. Black lightning started to flow out from the Doll as Luke walked closer to the both of them.
The net would extend to the maximum of two hundred feet, sparking slightly, waiting for speed to turn into static. Once Luke vanished, Death immediately knew what was going on. He was using a step technique to get closer to one of them. She waited, with her sword at the ready to try and attack this brazen man that thinks that he can hurt her. Her eyes darted back and forth, trying to figure out where he might strike. Zorn did the same.
When he appeared, Death had to think quick. He appeared before Zorn! The movement into his net gained much static, but Zorn had bigger things to worry about. Once Vesta noticed him, she used a step technique to get behind him, changing her sword to cover her right hand in her Nether. Zorn ran to his right, trying this best to sidestep the blade, adding more static to his charging net. This would definitely come in handy later.
Zorn would run full tilt to the right while Vesta would try to appear right behind Luke, getting as close as she could, extending her right hand out to touch him right when she appeared. Once she had touched him, or not touched him, she would quickly run backwards as Zorn would use the static buildup to strike Luke with a lightning strike. With the speed of the attack, she hoped that they had at least singed the man. She stood, her orbs quickly surrounding her again, as she pulled out another sword. "Are you so afraid of me that you have to use a shinigami's power instead of your own to face me?!"

So this was what it was like being on the otherside of things. Luke had always wondered just what sort of pressure someone felt whenever they had to face a Bount and their Dolls. The pressure of fighting two equally strong beings with vastly different abilities, bodies, and skills had to have been its own unique form of stress. Now Luke was experiencing that for himself. He had intended to use his Step Technique to approach Zorn from the front, and cut along its electrical body with his released Zanpakuto. There was the worry of rebound, since Zorn was made of electricity Luke wasn't sure how shoving a metal sword inside him was going to affect the sword wielder. Luke could have been walking into a world of hurt. But, considering Zorns response, it seemed that maybe that wasn't the case.
Luke picked up on the sudden flick of Vesta's reiatsu. He was able to recognize the slight and subtle reiatsu cost that was Movement, along with the reiatsu in her legs. Luke was a Master of the Movement tech, and seeing just how many Human World Dwellers used it, it stood to reason that he would be able to catch on when other people used it. That was thanks to his own experiences, his sharp Instincts, and the combination of his Battle Analysis and Focus skills. He detected her behind him, aiming to get a attack off on his back while his attention was focused on Zorn. Thankfully for Zorn, Luke had swung slower than he was naturally capable of.
This was what let Zorn get away. Luke didn't realize it right now but Zorn was...slow. It really wouldn't be too farfetched to say that, well, someone with a mental condition could react to things faster, and better, than Zorn could. He had WELL below average Instincts. He wasn't quite mentally retarded, this was true, but Vesta had to have a lot of confidence in her Doll to use him in that condition. Granted, Luke wasn't aware of just how bad Zorn was yet. Back to the fight. Vesta, or Death, had begun reaching for Luke. With her hand covered in her Nether, she was aiming to reach out for Luke to touch him. But, unfortunately for her, she wouldn't quite reach him. Before her hand would make contact she would simply reach through empty space.
Using Movement, Luke moved away seeing how his own attack failed and there was one coming for his back. He'd reappear away from the pair, eyes locked onto the nether that was coating her hand. But before he could ask her about it, Zorn attacked. Light from the lightning bolt lit up the room, as the bolt arced with that incredibly speed towards Luke. Shit Luke had no idea if it would work, but anything was worth a try. Luke didn't have time to let go of his sword, so instead what he did was point it at the lightning. "Cast away...Mūnran'nā!" Luke shouted. From that glowing blade came a wave of force that collided with the lightning.
An explosion of opposing forces echoed through the gym. His attack, far stronger than the lightning, canceled it out. But because of the way the attack worked, his was canceled out as well. Lowering his sword, Luke returned a raised eyebrow gaze to Death. Was she...actually giving him shit? "Uh..." He was actually a little shocked. "That's funny. Aren't you using two releases against a guy only using his Zanpakuto? You've got the numbers advantage, so what're you complaining about?" Luke asked with a shrug, before deciding to have some fun. "Or...is Death afraid that my little sword is stronger than her?" He smirked as he said that, trying to rile her up.
((Will do the costs when I get home tonight, okay?))
