A few months later
The shadows were ubiquitous. Their looms, cast by the overhead moonlight from the behemoth in the sky caused the silhouettes of the buildings to release that darkness. In that area, where the tall buildings of the most industrial part of Karakura Town existed, shadows were stretching for ages, everywhere. They bathed everything in the lack of light that was shadow. There was no escaping the incomprehensible omnipotence of the shadows. Some sort of chill had come to fill the air. Despite it being near summer, it was getting to be icy cold in that area. Anyone that was there would be able to see their breath.
As a matter of fact, one person was running through the area. His breaths were in gasps, and his blood was dripping from various wounds on his body. He was short, and his hair was spiky. The silhouette in the shadows was of a young man, running away from something. His blood was dripping, and he was panting. His breaths all caught frost as he exhaled them. He stumbled on a rock, and fell onto his stomach while running. Quickly clambering to his feet, he continued running. A taller figure followed with an indolent stride powered by long legs, lazily walking after the young man that ran.
As the young man turned a corner, he arrived at a river bank. Karakura's most famous river. He stumbled down the hill, rolling down to be near the river, at the border. Standing up, the moonlight was able to hit him and illuminate him. His hair was a mess, and the white strands were sweaty and sticking to his head and his face. Both eyes looked weary, and two cuts were on his left cheek. Other multitudes of cuts were on his body, which wore torn clothing in the form of a torn up white t-shirt and black jeans. His sneakers were demolished. He was wearing a pendant around his neck. His blood was noticeably blue when it dripped. Xcution Seven Guns, Kento Sasaki.
The taller figure stepped out into the moonlight as well, facing the shorter one. He was wearing black robes, fancy and adorned with flowery clothing. The magnificent silk was very drawing of the gaze of eyes. He was holding a blade in his right hand which was red, a katana. It had a red blade, and it was noticeably quite long and sharp looking. This tall man was Sozen Kuchiki, Shinigami Squad 6 Captain. "Now, now," Sozen taunted, "Surely you can do better than this." Kento stood there, panting. His eyes never left his opponent. Sozen, in stark contrast to Kento, was completely uninjured. Sozen lunged forwards, stabbing forwards with his blade.
Kento rolled to the left to try to escape Sozen, but Sozen was able to quickly spin on his hinges, whirling so that he continued, this time stabbing downwards as Kento tried to get back up. Kento's pendant glowed a bright green, and gloves materialized on his hands. They had metal pieces along the fingertips and the knuckles, with a dome-shaped piece on the back of the hand. With these gloves, Kento blocked Sozen's blade, though the gloves then proceeded to turn red immediately after. Kento, exasperated, quickly released his Fullbring. Green light enveloped it, and the gloves were gone again. The pendant was back around his neck.
From there, Kento whirled into a kick towards Sozen's face. Sozen caught Kento's leg, and gripped it. He slashed his blade down towards it, trying to sever it from the knee down. Kento's gloves materialized again in another flash of green light, this time normal. He aimed both at Sozen, who stopped slashing, released Kento, and retreated. He'd been going slowly and cautiously enough to make this move. He whirled into a series of complex slashing motions at Kento, who dodged all of them, except one, which he could only block. When his glove turned red, a burst of green light sealed it up again.
"Can you really protect Shizuka with skills like that?" Sozen asked Kento. Kento's eyes narrowed. "The only reason I agreed to this was because I lacked that confidence." Kento replied with a start. He was getting irritated. He'd snapped at Sozen. A couple of months earlier, Kento had gotten into an argument with Shizuka, and had then been attacked by a Hollow. With his heart in a weakened state from Shizuka storming out, he had not been able to activate his Fullbring, and had taken heavy injuries. Though he'd made up with Shizuka, and their relationship was stronger than ever, he'd realized that even Sozen had beaten him up. So, approaching Sozen, he'd asked for training. To get stronger.
Shizuka worried a lot afterwards, and Kento truthfully did not know what to say. He wanted her to know that the harsh words she'd said did not matter. He knew without a shadow of even the slightest doubt that she loved him. He knew that she knew that he loved her. And did he love her. He couldn't ever get her off his mind. He loved her more than anything else. She was absolutely the best thing that had ever happened to him. This was why Kento had decided to better himself. To continue to be able to make her happy. She saw it as an issue of confidence. Kento saw it as an issue of growth. It was necessary to mature to be able to keep her happy.
Sometimes she was easily distracted, and this was something that greatly impacted Kento. But he could work with it. As long as she would be with him, and return his love. As long as they could continue to spend time with each other, Kento was okay. All that he really wanted was to stay with his beloved girl, his darling. She had so many things that Kento loved. Besides being funny, besides being beautiful, she had many traits. Despite occasional carelessness, she really cared for him. If she made a mistake, she acknowledged and tried to fix it.
She tried hard to make him happy, moreso than many girls ever would. A lot of times, when Kento felt worthless, she knew just what to say to make him happy. She talked to him for hours at night, and she returned the sweet things he said to her sometimes. It was nice. Truly, if he could say he was in love with her, it was at that point. He really was truly, madly, deeply in love with that girl. She was sweet. She was wonderful. Kento knew in his heart that he would be with her forever. He was never going to forget her inside. He was always going to keep her close and treasure his memories with her. This was absolute.
Kento, just thinking of Shizuka, felt his heart and his chest warm. He closed his eyes, and smiled. Sozen cocked his head to one side, his smile never leaving his face. "Did you find your resolve, Sasaki-Kun?" he asked. Kento's eyes opened up, and he smiled. "Yeah..." he said to reply. "I found it." And then with the memory of the most special and amazing girl in the world in his mind, and this person he'd fallen in love with in his heart, Kento released his Fullbring again. A green light lit up, and his gloves were back on. "My resolve is that I love her. That's what keeps me going. Like all other obstacles, you better get out of my way, or I'm going to plunge straight through you with my memories with her as my fuel."
Little did he know, that someone was watching...
