-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 6'8"/255 lbs.
Physical Description:
Himitsu Kasumi’Oji stands out in a crowd, as most 6’8” individuals do. However, let’s not diminish the significance of his size in his general appearance. Because of his height, wide shoulders, and long limbs, Himitsu naturally towers over those around him. Therefore, to those who do not know him very well, he might come off as inherently intimidating and powerful. While his large frame and body might give off such an impression, that notion could not be further from the truth.
The reality of Himitsu’s character is far more present in his kind face. By kind face, I do not mean that he always bears a friendly expression. Regardless of whether Himitsu is smiling, frowning, furrowing his brow, or wrinkling his nose, his face can always be described with that same word: kind. Perhaps it’s a feature of his delicately defined cheekbones or his gently rounded head. Maybe it’s an intangible quality of warmth and amiability.
Most Kasumi’Oji are known to possess beautiful blond hair, serving as a characteristic for their family. Himitsu, however, is an exception. Due to the process that saved his life and gave him a new body, his appearance shifted as well. Instead of golden locks, his curvy hair takes on the deep brown of a chestnut. It arranges itself in orderly disorder, forming networks of intertwined strands that miraculously harmonize into larger units. His hair falls casually down his forehead, ending just above his eyes in the front. From behind, it forms a soft blanket covering the nape of his neck.
For the most part, the rest of Himitsu’s facial features are uninteresting. His nose is completely average. It is neither too large or too small, too wide or too narrow. His ears, which usually hide behind his hair, are standard as well. The man’s chin is not too prominent and defined, but it does present itself modestly. His eyebrows are on the thin side, but they too are hidden by the hanging strands of Himitsu’s hair.
What is interesting, however, are Himitsu’s eyes. Eyes are always the cliche. They are a window into the soul. They portray emotion. They characterize the person. But that’s the thing about cliches; they’re often true. Himitsu’s hazel eyes are unlike any others. The dark circumference of his eyes take on a wood-like hue. However, the color shifts as it comes closer to his pupils to a light brown, much like a chestnut when held to the light of the morning sun.
But the color is not as perplexing as the way his eyes understand effortlessly. The truth of the matter is that Himitsu cannot just look at a person and get them, but that’s not how his eyes work. They look past all of one’s actions, words, and attitude. They make the biggest and most challenging assumption anyone can possibly make: Himitsu’s eyes assume the best. They look at somebody and see the spark of light in the corner of their soul despite the raging darkness that shrouds it. He has faith in people, and the warmth of his gaze reflects that faith.
The rest of Himitsu’s body is proportional to his height. In other words, his hands are big. His legs and arms are long. His shoulders are wide and chest is large. However, these physical attributes are all average. Himitsu isn’t particularly muscular, although he isn’t notably thin and skinny either. He lacks noticeably scars despite all of the battles he had fought in and conflicts that he had been a part of. However, his body is young relative to his entire life, so that’s understandable.
This section by briefly touching upon Himitsu’s attire. As a devout shinigami, he dresses in traditional shinigami garbs with respect to his position. Once before, Himitsu had modified his clothes slightly to stand out from the crowd. That Himitsu, Himitsu Misute, was lost and fought to avoid blending into the crowd without finding who he is as an individual. But Himitsu Kasum’Oji understands the importance of being just like any other shinigami, so he wears the common shinigami uniform assigned to an officer in his position proudly. However, when he is away from the Gotei 13, Himitsu wears very plain yet fashionable clothes. He usually dawns a jacket, some type of shirt, and uniform pants. Himitsu’s wardrobe can be summed up with a single concise word: simple.
-Personality-
Dislikes:
1. Anger - Anger is such an easy emotion to give in to. However, it’s temptations lead away from any and all positivity. Temporarily inhibits rationality and leads to people getting hurt. Anger must be controlled.
2. Indifference - Indifference in a casual context is not sinful in anyway. However, indifference in the face of important matters is disgraceful. When it comes to someone’s life or wellbeing, whether you know the individual or not, indifference is unacceptable.
3. Cynicism - Some individuals pride themselves on their miraculous intellectual ability to see the evil truth in reality. They automatically assume the worst in the world around them without giving the people in it a chance to show them otherwise. Cynicism is a dark mental state at the open to even darker roads.
4. Arrogance - Pride is one thing, but excessive pride that alters one’s view of reality can bring no good. It closes one’s mind to other possibilities except for those that they could already see. Rationalizing with arrogant individuals is a struggle, and the first step must be to eradicate that arrogance.
5. Boredom - Himitsu always needs something to do. He doesn’t like sitting around without any aim or objection. He’d way rather sit around with a goal in mind, as long as he isn’t wasting his time. After remembering his past life as Mamuro Kasumi’Oji, where death kept stalking him behind every corner, Himitsu always remembered to appreciate the time he had to live and make the most of it.
6. Spicy foods - This is a bit more insignificant in the wide scope of things, but to be honest, Himitsu just isn’t a fan of spicy foods. Mamuro Kasmu’Oji’s body could never handle consuming them, so maybe he just never got used to the intensity of the spice? But ultimately, spicy foods just covered the actual taste behind the meal, making the entire experience far less pleasant.
7. Killing - Himitsu made the decision to no longer kill. It always seems like the easiest option, the best way to carry out justice. Just kill all the bad guys and they will go away. But in the end, murder isn't the solution. Causing harm to others cannot make up for the harm that they do. So instead of fighting fire with fire, Himitsu hopes to overcome the obstacles in his path without killing.
8. Bloodlust - It’s disgusting how many lines people are willing to cross to hurt one another out for nothing but self-satisfaction. It’s a waste of life. In Himitsu’s eyes, pointless violence is one of the most severe sins that one can commit.
9. Alcohol and Drugs - Himitsu avoided substance use after rejoining Soul Society due to the already massive gap in his memory and identity. However, after his memories returned to him, he recalled the dismal state of his brother, Yoshihiro, who lost himself to alcohol and drugs. Those substances also hurt his judgement, possibly leading to the disastrous fall of the Kasumi’Oji after the Bakkoto Rebellion. Himitsu swore to never follow such a path and avoided those substances.
10. Liars - There’s nothing worse than deceit for the purpose of manipulation. Himitsu dealt with lies daily in his previous life. He helped his brother lie to the Gotei 13 about their family’s criminal affairs, and he lied to other noble families before assisting his brother in the Bakkoto Rebellion. No good came from it. And in the current world, Himitsu still sees deceit and manipulation within Soul Society and nobles, and he hopes to fight against it.
Likes:
1. Model Shinigami - Not all shinigami are up to his standard, but, overall, the idea of being a hero to all words is pretty appealing. Especially after being rescued by a shinigami from hallows, he had aspired to train and become one as well. There is no better way to lead a new life.
2. Humans - People in general, really. While he was staying in the hospital, he had the pleasure of meeting several patients that would eventually leave and be replaced by new strangers. He got to talk to many of these people and tended to like most of them. Even the hospital nurses and doctors would love to stop by his room and have a brief, pleasant conversation. Sometimes, he likes to just observe the human word and wonder how he lived his life before he lost his memory. Before he was stuck in a hospital on his deathbed.
3. Books and Movies - When lying in a hospital bed most of the time, boredom's visits are pretty frequent. And Himitsu hates boredom. I'm pretty sure we went over that. So when he isn't allowed to wander the hospital and when he is alone for the day, he might grab one of his books, flip to a random page, and begin reading. He built up a small library by his bedside, and he read those books five times each at the least. And when he's in the mood for something different, he might turn on the small square box at the foot of the bed and watch a nice movie, usually comedies or adventures.
4. Solitude - Peace and quiet. He got a lot of that at the hospital and he can still use more. The only difference is that while he stayed at the hospital, he was a prisoner in the building. Now as a shinigami, he is free to explore worlds and enjoy the scenery. Those beautiful places, most of which lie in the human worlds, are the best places to relax and enjoy your privacy.
5. Traveling - He's been locked up in a hospital part of his life, and even before then, he was in constant need of medical attention and could not afford to travel too far for too long. He wouldn't finally wants to see the world through his own eyes.
6. Romance - Himitsu never got to experience romance during his life. He was surrounded by both natural and self-imposed barriers as a Kasumi’Oji, and because of his medical condition and short life expectancy, he avoided a relationship and women avoided him. But now that he was more free to pursue his own passions, he liked the idea of finding a soulmate.
7. Disney Movies - Himitsu enjoys movies in general, but disney movies are nice because they always have a happy ending. Even when things seem dark and hopeless, the heroes prevail and defeat the villains. And when the Disney villains get their own storylines and development, you get to see the full human picture behind them too. Disney movies are just brilliant.
8. Holidays - Christmas. Thanksgiving. New Years’. Halloween. You name it, Himitsu’s in. And it’s not about the holidays themselves that bring him joy. His love for holidays stems from the communal feeling they bring. Thanksgiving and Christmas bring families together. Halloween has entire communities interacting playfully with one another. It’s a beautiful sight.
Flaws:
1. Straightforward - Himitsu speaks his mind. At least most of the time. He's not always the most diplomatic person and Whether he comes across as rude or not depends on the receiver of his words. Hopefully, his light-hearted attitude would spread and they won't take any offense to his honesty.
3. Moral Compass - Himitsu has a nice little set of moral rules in his own mind. Anything that doesn't follow it is a problem. It's not exactly his business to interfere with something that doesn't follow his ethical code, but that doesn't seem to stop him. Justice is relative, after all.
4. Clumsiness - Being as huge as he is, it is easy for Himitsu to misjudge his size and collide with obstacles in his path. If he's lucky, they don't break. He's not the luckiest person. Being awkward and uncoordinated has its pros and cons- well, technically, they're all cons, but he'll deal with it.
5. Pacifism - Himitsu will fight when necessary, but he will never kill. For that reason, he must always hold back to a degree, taking precautions to avoid killing an enemy combatant. It also means that he must find other ways to get rid of his enemies than eliminating them.
6. Idealism - Himitsu’s goals aren’t practical. In fact, they’re about as impossible as it gets. He wants to see a world where all others understand each other, where there is no killing or unnecessary death. He stubbornly sticks to this philosophy despite the opposition he continues to face.
Habits:
1. Humming/whistling
2. Sleeping in public places (especially when the weather is nice)
3. Reading books and watching movies
4. Daydreaming/flashbacks
Fears:
Failure - Himitsu’s greatest fear is failure. He wanted nothing to be the leader of his family as Mamuro Kasumi’Oji, and he is still afraid of failing his family. He wants to protect the innocent from violence and evil, but each death around him tears him apart on the inside and each life he saves is accompanied with the fear that he won’t be able to save another. He wants to hold onto his idealistic dream of a peaceful world with no killing or deceit, but he fears that he’ll fail to make that dream a reality.
Disease - Himitsu had been restrained by disease for far too much of his life. Mamuro Kasumi’Oji was unable to take the mantel of the Kasumi’Oji head because of his illness, which also caused him to lose his fight against Gringei Kuchiki in the Bakkoto Rebellion. The memory-less Himitsu awoke in a hospital, where his human gigai died, leaving his soul to wander New York City. Himitsu now fears that he’ll lose the chance to push his goals and dreams forward to another crippling disease.
Goals:
Himitsu has two main interests. The first is redefining who he is. Himitsu Misute was a very different person than Mamuro Kasumi’Oji, and Himitsu Kasumi’Oji is somewhere in between. He now has an obligation to his rediscovered family, something he hadn’t had in a very long time. However, his family also conflicts with his internal moral code. Therefore, Himitsu’s goal is to find a balance. He wants to reform his family in order to stay through to his idealogy while still fighting to strengthen his family and its standing in Soul Society.
Himitsu’s highest priority isn’t his family, however. It is his own crusade against evil. He wants to start by purifying all immoral individuals within the Gotei 13 in order to ensure that all Shinigami are true servants and soldiers of justice. Just one drop of ink is enough to stain a white body. But the fight cannot end there. The next enemy is Soken Kouhai and his Las Noches, or Satsujun and his Xcution, or the Emperor and his Vandenreich. But killing these enemies won’t do anything, for there will always be those who can step into their vacant positions. He is fighting a philosophical war. By purging the world of hate and violence, Himitsu can truly usher in peace.
Alignment: Lawful Good
Overall Personality:
Himitsu is a kind, happy man. At least most of the time. He finds joy in the little things in life, whether it’s the shining sun breaking through a blanket of clouds or a ladybug landing gentle on a leaf. It doesn’t take a lot to make Himitsu smile, and that’s always a good trait. However, due to his ambitious goal, he feels the constant weight of his responsibilities pushing the corners of his mouth into a frown. It doesn’t take a lot to make him happy because, without those small things that lighten his spirit, he would struggle with his sadness far too often.
Himitsu likes to be conversational. Meeting new people not only connects them but he gets an insight to their background. In Soul Society, a place where people from all different times are mixed together, it would be difficult not to take advantage of that to learn more about different time periods of the world. Himitsu would usually intimidate people with his unusually large size, but his bright smile tends to send a more friendly message. He's always direct with whom he talks to and rarely shies away from people. However, that straight-forward attitude is the reason for his socially-awkward nature. He loves talking to people, but he doesn’t have the best social skills either. Unfortunately, that combination results in heavy loneliness.
But there are benefits to his direct nature as well. Himitsu always sees the best in people. He gives them the benefit of the doubt when their actions might seem questionable, and he has a talent for nudging people toward the light. He is a very passionate man with a love for all people he meets. He doesn’t hold those emotions back, either, and for that reason, Himitsu tends to leave footprints where he walks and an impact on the people he passes.
On some rare days, all of the misery and frustration Himitsu has would erupt from him and even then, a smile is difficult to pull off. But, as always, he takes advantage of his size and rams through those walls of anguish. It was painful but not impossible. To get rid of those excess negative emotions, he enjoys finding a beautiful, remote location and relaxing there. Sometimes, he might accidentally take a nap but that would only make the experience more pleasant. He just needs a break to see the light in the world once more, and when he does, a smile will come more easily.
Himitsu always keeps his head straight and screwed on tightly. He loves to enjoy himself, but that doesn’t mean that he loses track of himself and his goals. His mind is always calm and direct, clear of all distractions. He never gets side-tracked but might take a break and pull over only to start back up the car and keep driving. Life goes on and the trick is to stay right behind it. He tries not to linger on his experiences, both good and bad. Sometimes, he might dawdle a little longer than he should, but he always moves on. There’s always more to look forward to than there is behind.
-Powers-
Fighting Style:
There are 3 typical classes of combat-based shinigami: melee fighters, mages, and release-focused fighters. Himitsu’s fighting style very easily falls into the second category, for the vast majority of his power is derived from his spells. However, that isn’t to say that he lacks close-combat skills or has a particularly threatening release. He specializes in magic and kido, but Himitsu’s physical combat and zanpakuto still contribute to his strength.
Let’s begin by examining a fully-restrained Himitsu. When he truly isn’t taking a fight seriously, Himitsu doesn’t even expend reiatsu. He engages the enemy solely with his glaive. In truth, Himitsu is an expert with a staff, but he chooses to wield a glaive instead for one key reason. A staff may only deal blunt damage, but a glaive has a bladed end which allows Himitsu to choose between cutting the foe with the blade or hitting them with the blunt end.
But both the glaive and staff are more oriented around defense. Their length helps Himitsu make up for his lack of speed against faster opponents, giving him a wider field of protection. But in the end, Himitsu is too slow and too physically weak to rely only on his glaive in high-tier fights. It’s still a useful tool, but his staff specialty can only take the Kasumi’Oji so far.
That’s where we come into Himitsu’s next source of power: his kido. If Himitsu’s wielding only a glaive is level one, then Himitsu equipped with kido leaps to level 50. His power spikes the instant kido is accessible. As Mamuro Kasumi’Oji, he was a technique master and head of the Kido Corps. Himitsu Kasumi’Oji has not yet caught up to the strength of his former self, but his affinity with kido remains. With just a few spells, he can disable Vice-Captain level opponents.
But how does a pacifist like Himitsu expertly wield the destructive force of kido without taking any lives? There’s the obvious answer, which is clearly bakudo. Himitsu is an expert with that defensive sect of spells, masterfully using even the lowest-level bakudo against powerful enemies. However, the Kasumi’Oji does not limit himself only to bakudo. He is capable of casting very powerful hado spells with such precision and restraint that he avoids killing his targets.
While kido is powerful, it is hardly ever enough to defeat more powerful enemies. Therefore, Himitsu takes advantage of his family techniques, many of which he developed himself as Mamuro Kasumi’Oji. They allow him animate and enhance his own spells to amplify their power and expand their utility. Best of all, they rely on his life force, not reiatsu pool. That way, Himitsu can afford to use them frequently.
If an enemy is powerful enough to challenge Himitsu beyond all his techniques and skills mentioned above, then they will be met with the first level of his release. Now, Himitsu’s shikai is unique because it does not introduce a new offensive or defensive tool. Instead, it modifies his non-release spells, giving him more combo options and amplifying his preexisting strengths. Himitsu shikai is indeed powerful, and because of it, his shikai surpasses the level of most other shikai and can often compete with bankai as well.
But Himitsu’s shikai is not always enough to subdue an enemy and protect those around him. That is when his bankai comes out. Himitsu’s bankai is not offensive. It is not a tool for defeating an opponent. It is a means for saving lives. His bankai has primarily defensive and healing purposes, although it has subjugation capabilities as well. With it, Himitsu can truly defend those he pledges to protect in ways that his spells could not achieve.
And last, but not least, is a set of techniques that Himitsu himself created. Their strength is matched by his bankai, but they can only be used in certain situations. This category of techniques, the Light, are only accessible when the user has the purest of intentions. As long as Himitsu does all he can to avoid hurting and killing anyone, he can access the Light techniques for both defense and subjugation.
Cumulatively, it is clear to see that Himitsu is a very powerful mage who uses his techniques and release to amplify his spells. That fighting style alone is quite powerful, but Himitsu’s abilities extend beyond simple spells. It is clear by examining his fighting style that the Kasumi’Oji specializes in defense in general, and not just his own defense. His powers let him protect those around him, and that feature is unique amongst shinigami. He uses his offensive and defensive powers to fight for his goals and ambitions.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance(Optional):
Flex Powers (Alex Louis Armstrong FC)
That's right. That's who Himtisu's Zanpakuto spirit is. The man's name is Flex Powers, and he is the definition of a man. He’s a buff blond guy with a passion for manliness. He has twenty times the testosterone of the average man, and it shows. He always pushes Himitsu to be the best man that Himitsu can be. Not the best person. The best man, which apparently involves speaking through his fists. Himitsu and Flex may not agree on the definition of a real man, but they make one entertaining duo.
Inner World(Optional):
Garden of Eden
Zanpakutou Appearances:
Sealed
The sealed form of Himitsu's Zanpakuto resembles the traditional katana. It has an ocean blue hilt, a small blue guard, and a razor sharp, curved silver blade that extends for for three and a half feet from the hilt. It's isn't too long or wide, but it appears to be thinner than paper and as sturdy as diamond. A cut from that blade cause invisible cuts that would only bring attention when blood spurts out of them.
The sapphire scabbard of the blade is unique, for it has a slot at the bottom that attached to the base of the hilt and locks into position, allowing the scabbard to increase the length of the weapon to a little over Himitsu's height and allow Himitsu to use it as a glaive or staff. The uniqueness of his weapon, even in its sealed state, allows him to use his martial without releasing to acquire his weapon of preference.
Shikai
Shikai Weapon - Glaive
Shinigami seem to specialize in the art of swordsmanship, considering that their Zanpakuto begin as swords and most release into various types of blades. Himitsu, however breaks that stereotype. His shikai is a glaive, an unusual weapon that hit its peak in popularity during Medieval times and has declined significantly since. However, the weapon is convenient. The most prominent portion is a long staff colored with a deep midnight blue. It's composed of spiritual steel and is as durable as the metal of any sword.
The glaive is a total of seven feet long, just a bit taller than Himitsu. At its bottom, the glaive has two small conic shapes that cause a triangular decline of width just half a foot into the staff. Its thickness then increases before returning to a thin cylinder for the majority of the staff. At the top, however, a razor sharp blade lies with a curved edge and dangerously acute point. Like a scimitar, the blade of the glaive curves back inward and allows for a small gap before another curve forms, making it possible for Himitsu to use the weapon to catch other weapons and remove them from the grasps of his enemies.
Bankai
Garden of Eden
Himitsu's bankai is absolutely mammoth, and for good reason. After all, it is based on the concept of the most beautiful place to ever exist on Earth, one that had been closed off to humanity thousands of years ago. Himitsu's bankai is the Garden of Eden. This Garden is massive and spreads out for a full two miles in every direction. If one tried to leave, he would find how impossible it is to do so. After all, mountain ranges as high as the clouds act as natural barriers. Even if one attempted to climb these great mountains, invisible glass would act as a ceiling one mile above the ground. It is impossible to escape just by walking out.
The Garden of Eden is filled with lush vegetation such as bushes and grass. Its many round hills don't have a spot of dirt visible on them, for all of the ground is covered with some type of plant that is thriving upon the divine nutrition of the soil. There are no trees in this Garden of Eden except for one giant tree at the very center that stands at half a mile tall. It's trunk alone is 100 meters thick. It is truly the Tree of Life.
Zanpakuto Release Names
Shikai
"Repent, Tenshi!"
Bankai
"Enter the Gates of Heaven, Tengoku no Tenshi!"
Overall Ability:
Himitsu's Zanpakuto's overall ability is incredibly rare and powerful. In fact, some consider that such an ordinary Shinigami as Himitsu, despite his strength, was able to acquire such a weapon because of his connection to Sozen as the Vice Captain of Squad 6. The concept behind the Zanpakuto is "Paradise." After all, that is one of the most important concepts for everyone. In the human world, they question the possibility of an afterlife where Paradise exists. Those who die and become souls seem to dismiss the notion, but Himitsu turns that myth into reality with his Zanpakuto.
Paradise has so many meanings and connotations, but Himitsu takes all of the stories that it centers around and strips them to their core, leaving him with primary concepts of Immortality. The eternal afterlife where everything is perfect and none suffer. It is the Heaven that religion promises. Himitsu is able to take those ideals of Paradise and apply them, using his Zanpakuto to bolster his own combat ability and even act as the most powerful defense in its late stages.
Shikai Overall Ability:
Paradise has several meanings, but in the Shikai stage of Himitsu's Zanpakuto, it takes on a meaning of "eternity." An eternal heaven. Himitsu applies Paradise to all of his techniques as he fights, making him just in his shikai a powerful force to reckon with. It focuses on enhancing his current fighting ability by having his attacks truly portray Paradise by embodying the eternal afterlife.
Now, what might this mean? It's simple, really. All of Himitsus' attacks and techniques last infinitely rather than fade away. The best way to explain this ability is with examples. Firstly, if Himitsu uses a simple Hado such as Hado #4: Byakurai, the bolt of lightning would jump from his fingers just as it normally does and act in a completely ordinary way. However, the effects do not fade away. Even after Bykurai sores by, the lightning will stay anchored in the air until Himitsu's release ends. This applies to other forms of attacks such as cuts. If Himitsu slashes upward with his Zanpakuto, charging it with energy for of 50 reiatsu, the air that was cut seems to shimmer slightly where Himitsu's sword sliced through. If anyone were to step through that shimmering location, they would find a gash in their skin from Himitsu's sword. If they continue to walk through it, the attack can slice through their body.
Himitsu's techniques that are preserved by his Zanpakuto are not invincible. However, the "eternity" that they last causes their durability to increase significantly. The only way to destroy these techniques is with an attack that has offensive stat superiority as well as class superiority to the Shikai. Both are required. Even if the location shifts and the ground skins a feet or two or an ocean forms over the land, the techniques will be locked into place. At any time, Himitsu may allow one of his techniques or attacks to end.
Bankai Overall Ability:
Although he still retains his glaive and shikai ability in the final form of his release, Himitsu's bankai is not one that is meant for fighting. In fact, if his bankai has to be brought out, it means that Himitsu must save lives at any cost, not kill his foes. His bankai lacks any offensive capabilities, and for that reason, it is difficult to use is many combat situations. However, the incredible power behind the release makes up for its lack of offensive ability. It is the perfect counter to other characters in most cases, and is Himitsu's biggest tool to accomplish the task all Shinigami have of protecting the lives of innocent souls.
The Garden of Eden is similar to the biblical account, for it is truly God's perfect environment. Anything and everything within the Garden of Eden will be under Himitsu’s control. He is the God of the garden, and it is his will that decides the laws that govern the setting. The way the power mechanically works is that there is no overall ability. Instead, Himitsu’s bankai sacrifices a central ability in exchange for enforcing the rules of his paradise through specific zones, each of which takes up a technique slot. Each post, he may change the present zone one time for no reiatsu cost. The second zone change costs 300 reiatsu, but no more than two zone changes can occur during a single post. Himitsu can also pay 400 reiatsu to break the laws of his zone freely for a single post, but if the zone is changed, he has to pay another 400 reiatsu to ignore the zone’s effects during the same post.
Each zone has the same basic drawbacks. They all share one huge flaw. The power of the Garden of Eden comes solely from the Tree of Life, which is positioned in the center of the expansive Garden. Without the Tree of Life, Himitsu's bankai would have no effect. The only way to destroy the Tree of Life is with either a Class 0 technique, or a Class 1 technique that also has triple Himitsu's offensive stat. The Tree of Life must be completely destroyed, so either burning it to ash, uprooting it, or incinerating/vaporizing it would work. In addition, those who are either class 0 or have more than twice Himitsu’s highest spiritual stat can completely ignore the effects of the Garden of Eden as well. Those with just spiritual stat superiority can also overcome the effects of a zone, but doing so is costly. They must pay 600 reiatsu, but it also requires them to be aware of the zone's effects. Therefore, they cannot just power through a zone right when it forms but rather endure its restrictions just briefly enough to understand them.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
All Zanpakuto Techniques are Bankai Techniques
1. Safe Zone
Description - No physical harm can occur to any living things, both the natural inhabitants of the garden and people as well. All in all, it prevents any change from breaking the eternal peace that the Garden of Eden allows. No physical change can take place. Sure, people can move around and they can attack, but no external changes can occur. Wounds cannot be inflicted. Reiatsu based attacks cannot harm anyone. Poisons and toxins do not function. Significant temperature changes do not occur either. The ultimate "no damage" zone. However, no physical harm may come to anyone. If someone is near death when they enter the No-Damage Zone, their bleeding stops and life is prolonged until they leave.
Drawbacks - The simplest way to counter the Safe Zone is through the drowning of the enemy. Otherwise, it abides by the same drawbacks specified in the bankai ability.
2. Life Zone
Description - This is the healing zone. Now, techniques have the opportunity to heal instead of injure. However, the healing mechanic is a little peculiar. Offensive techniques or attacks can only heal injuries that they would otherwise cause. For instance, if someone receives a gash, anyone within the zone can slice right along the existing wound, but instead of damaging it further, they’d heal the cut perfectly. This can work with poisons, burns, broken bones. Even psychological or spiritual damage.
Drawbacks - Life Zone abides by the same drawbacks specified in the bankai ability. Also, if Himitsu or his allies do not have access to techniques or attacks that cause the same form of damage that they are trying to heal, they won’t be able to heal the wound. Lastly, techniques can still cause damage and hurt others if they make contact with a point that either isn’t injured or isn’t injured in a similar fashion that the attack would cause, so when in battle, Life Zone cannot prevent damage like Safe Zone can.
3. War Zone
Description - This is the offensive zone. Contrary to its name and theme, however, it isn’t offensive on its own. It’s just another set of laws for the Garden of Eden. All techniques those within the Garden may now use must strictly be offensive. That prohibits all subjugation, defensive, or utility techniques. Hierro and other passive skin defenses are cancelled. Step techniques cannot be used unless they have offensive characteristics like Shunpo Echi.
Drawbacks - War Zone abides by the same drawbacks specified in the bankai ability.
4. Shield Zone
Description - This is the defensive zone. In fact, it is the exact opposite of War Zone. All techniques may freely be used except offensive techniques or techniques that have offensive purpose. That includes those that summon weapons or other creatures for battle.
Drawbacks - Shield Zone abides by the same drawbacks specified in the bankai ability.
5. Stop Zone
Description - This is the freeze zone. It simply halts all physical movement while it is active. Even if someone is in the middle of their step technique, they will halt mid-motion.
Drawbacks - Stop Zone abides by the same drawbacks specified in the bankai ability. Furthermore, doesn’t stop reiatsu flow at all. Techniques can still be cast, but only pure energy-based techniques aren’t restricted by Stop Zone.
6. Compassion Zone
Description - This is the feeling zone. It is the most important of all of Himitsu’s because its purpose is far greater than simple combat. It isn’t physical but rather emotional. It has two stages. The first is a passive emotional awareness that cannot be ignored by even class 0 characters. Everyone will have an understanding of the emotions of all of those around them. Anger. Happiness. Love. Pain. Misery. No one can hide from this ability. No one can lie or cheat their way out of it. While this won’t forcefully impose the pain someone else feels onto the rest, it will make them aware and understanding of that individual’s pain, which is just what compassion is.
The second level of Compassion Zone requires Himitsu and the target to have some sort of contact, whether through their weapons or direct physical contact. However, its effects are extremely powerful. Himitsu solely goes after those who he believes to be evil and who take innocent lives. Therefore, this technique was created to punish only the wrong-doers. It can be activated if Himitsu pays 500 reiatsu, and it may only be used once per person per thread.
This technique scales off the goodness of one's heart. If the target has a Light Aura equal to or less than their Dark Aura, they will feel all of the pain that they've caused others over their lifetime, but all in one wave. Killing one person is enough to physically bring someone to their knees. Killing three people immediately knocks someone unconscious.
Drawbacks - Compassion Zone first level does not abide by the same drawbacks specified in the bankai ability. Instead, only its second level follows the normal bankai drawback. It also costs 500 reiatsu and, it doesn't cause physical damage, only mental damage. Points in Strength of Will multiply the required deaths before being knocked unconscious. For example, 3 points in Strength of Will make it so that the target had to have killed 15 people in order to be knocked unconscious. An Illusion Resist of 3 completely negates this power. In addition, it has no usefulness in a fight against someone with a greater Light Aura than Dark Aura.

This technique allows Himitsu to trace the application of his reiatsu, letting him reuse already applied reiatsu as a source for other techniques. Essentially, it lets him use a non-release technique from anything with his reiatsu infused into it. If he shoots a byakurai from his hand, for example, Himitsu is able to have another byakurai shoot out of the first bolt of lightning.

History:
Mamuro Kasumi'Oji
Part 1 - The Failed Heir
The modern Kasumi’Oji family has had many faces, all of which belonged to the same main bloodline. Most recently Taiho. Before, her sister, Azumi. Before her, Yoshihiro, her father. But in truth, Yoshihiro wasn’t the intended head of the family, yet he bore the children that would lead the Kasumi’Oji in the future. Yoshihiro was the second born son. His father, Oozuki Kasumi’Oji, and wife, Benihine, had a son before Yoshihiro. A child who wasn’t supposed to live for as long as he did. Mamuro, they called him. The Protector. But just weeks after he was born, the noble parents were briefed of his poor health.
The doctor said that he wouldn’t make it to his third birthday. Mamuro’s soul was simply too weak and unstable to sustain his little life. But Oozuki and Benihine did not give up on their son. To say that they loved him wouldn’t be accurate. No, the Kasumi’Oji were not known for affection, and Yoshihiro was no exception. He was a cruel and brutal head, but he cared about his family and needed to leave a legacy. And so he invested millions of ryo into his son’s health, using the family resources to create medicine in order to sustain his life, but ultimately, he was successful in only prolonging it. Oozuki needed a true heir who could carry the family through centuries, and it was uncertain if Mamuro would survive long enough to take on the mantel as head of his family. Therefore, Oozuki and Benihine needed to try again, resulting in the next family head: Yoshihiro. Mamuro was tossed aside.
But Mamuro did not give up on himself. He was five years old when his brother was born, and he could sense the new distance between himself and his parents. He didn’t have to ask. It wasn’t his duty to become the head of his family anymore, but it was his duty to himself to continue living as long as he could and make the most out of each day. He started his schooling very young, just incase he didn’t have enough years left to see his education all the way through. When it came to academics, he excelled. Mamuro was no natural genius, but he was a fast learner. He understood concepts best. When it came to memorization, he fell short. That took too much time, and he simply couldn’t afford it. So instead, Mamuro was naturally drawn to the abstract. His particular interest was with raw reiatsu and how individuals could harness it. Before he knew it, all he wanted to do was learn more about reiatsu use.
However, Mamuro’s soul couldn’t handle it. Not at first. He began his training at home, learning first from his father when he was just six years old. It came naturally to him. Before he knew it, Mamuro was able to send sparks flying from his fingers or create a light breeze from the palm of his hand. But as his techniques grew more powerful, they took even more of a toll on his body. The beginning was difficult. He would black out after expending just a little bit of his reiatsu, leaving him sick in bed with a fever for a few days. His father was ashamed, but he could not bring himself to deny power to his first child. And so Oozuki held weekly training sessions with his eldest son, each only lasting up to 15 minutes at first before Mamuro’s body gave out.
Over time, Mamuro grew stronger. His endurance improved, but the strength behind his abilities even more so. He was seven years old when he entered the shinigami academy, making history as the youngest academy member ever before. But he was a special case, after all. His life expectancy was projected at twelve years by that point in time, a vast improvement on the original expected deadline. But because of Mamuro’s immaturity and status as a potential heir to the Kasumi’Oji family, he could never seem to make friends. Other students distanced themselves from him, and it was during this time that he realized how lonely he truly was. Strangers hugged, talked, and laughed all around him, but he seemed to have no one in his life. Even his parents only paid him attention out of an inherent sense of obligation, but not out of love. Mamuro was foreign to intimacy, but he deeply desired it.
And the only way he understood how to win his parents’ love was by somehow curing his illness so that he may fulfill his true destiny as the firstborn child. The only way his youthful mind knew how to do so was becoming powerful. And so Mamuro graduated from the academy at the age of ten years old, already a kido expert among his peers. In fact, his reiatsu was uniquely powerful, possibly a side effect of his unstable soul. Just six months after becoming a Shinigami, Mamuro became the fifth seat of the Kido Corps. By the time that he was nineteen, he was the Vice Captain. When he turned twenty-five, he headed the Kido Corps as Captain. The youngest Captain Soul Society had ever seen. One who could die at any second.
But how had Mamuro survived this long? It was all thanks to the advanced medical capabilities of the Kasumi’Oji family. Artificial life was their speciality, and so Oozuki resorted to experimentation to preserve his son’s life. The family’s scientist worked to fortify Mamuro’s soul, allowing it to sustain its energy and his own life. After all, the stronger Mamuro got, the more sick he would become after exerting himself. Expending too much reiatsu could send him into a coma for a week. His position as a high-seated Shinigami was dangerous due to his condition, but with the help of his family’s technology, he was able to temporarily secure his health, allowing him to rise to the status of Captain in such a timely manner. But his strength didn’t just come from exceptional mastery of kido. He understood the behavior or reiatsu as a whole and was able to apply it in unique ways, inventing skills that utilized life force to strengthen his spells. Between his incurable disease and unrivaled raw power, Mamuro became known as the nuke. Whether he was on a mission for Soul Society or his family, he only left indiscriminatory death and destruction behind. He only cared about becoming an asset to his parents and receiving their endorsement as the future head of the family. He wanted their love and acceptance.
But despite his strength, he always seemed to be a step behind Yoshihiro. His brother lacked is incredible power, instead holding even more deadly characteristics. He was cunning and deceitful. Yoshihiro was capable of bending people to his will without them even being away e of the strings he attached to their bodies. While he wasn’t weak, he simply couldn’t compare to his brother in battle, but that didn’t matter. He held the skills that his parents valued. He was the true leader of the two, and so there was no chance that Oozuki and Benihine would ever bet the future of their family on the ill Mamuro. His brother had stolen his destiny, and there was nothing that Mamuro could do to reclaim it.
Part 2 - The Last War
Yoshihiro was thirty-two when he became the head of the Kasumi’Oji family. Mamuro was thirty-seven, but his condition had only worsened. Before, he needed artificial sustenance only before big missions, but now, he seemed to require it every week. Soon, they would need to make the treatments even more frequent. His entire life was completely reliant on his family’s technology. Nonetheless, he was among the most powerful of his relatives, making him an asset whose life had to be prolonged at all costs. Mamuro, who had previously been obsessed with becoming the head, found a new purpose. He needed to assist his family in anyway possible, which made it necessary for him to keep living. He aided his brother with his duties and responsibilities, even assisting him with negotiations with other families.
That introduced Mamuro to many high-positioned individuals. He became familiar with Gringei Kuchiki and his grandsons Sozen and Onuya. Gringei was a very strong man who always seemed to hide his motives, and Mamuro definitely sensed similar traits within his grandchildren. Their peaceful father Mephisto didn’t seem to leave them his commitment to non-violence. They were all ruthless and obsessed with power in scary ways. Mamuro did not like the Kuchikis, mostly because he viewed them as a threat to his own family’s well-being. However, it was essential that good relations with the Kuchikis, the largest noble family, were mutually beneficially. Therefore, Mamuro stayed by his brother’s side as Yoshihiro negotiated appropriate relations.
Then there were the Kawada, who had not so long ago risen to the most profitable and influential point in their history at that era under the leadership of the famous Jinbei, the most powerful Shinigami other than the Captain Commander of Soul Society at the time. Since then, however, the Kawada were on a decline. Jinbei’s eldest son Shokan had disappeared, leaving Kochikochi Kawada as the family’s head. Kochikochi was aggressive, leading to rising tensions between himself and another family, the Shihoin, who were under Hiroshi Shihoin. Hiroshi was a snake, and Mamuro knew from their meetings that he was willing to strengthen his own family by any means necessary.
It wasn’t a surprise to Mamuro when Hiroshi attacked the Kawada, simultaneously launching small offensive campaigns on all families. His brother successfully defended the Kasumi’Oji holdings, and with one decisive battle, Hiroshi had been defeated and captured. The Shihoin had lost the majority of their family’s assets, forcing them to borrow Kuchiki land to reside on. The Shihoin had fallen down to the very bottom, and it was all a result of foolish violence and greed. Unfortunately, Yoshihiro had not learned from Hiroshi’s mistakes and viewed the situation of the Shihoin as an opportunity to absorb the family. Mamuro warned him that waging war on one family was equivalent to waging war on all families, but Yoshihiro believed that he could defeat the weak Shihoin before any other parties could intervene.
He was wrong. Gringei and his forces had been present just as the Kasumi’Oji family began their assault. In truth, the Kasumi’Oji didn’t stand a chance. They were vastly outnumbered and surrounding. Even worse, they were fighting on Kuchiki land. Retreat was no longer an option. Mamuro and his family were fighting for their lives. And for every Kasumi’Oji soldier, there were three or four Kuchiki or Shihoin. Mamuro either killed or incapacitated forty of them before he turned around and found that his family’s forces had been reduced to just 10% of their former number. Even Yoshihiro had been captured. And Mamuro found himself face to face with none other than Gringei. The battle was intense and heated, and all other nobles stopped to watch that one fight play out. It was the Kasumi’Oji’s last stand. Gringei was the more powerful adversary, but out of fear of his health, Mamuro had never truly tested his strength. Mamuro unpexctedly held his own against the Kuchiki head, each unable to land a battle-determining blow on the other. After more than thirty minutes of explosive combat, Mamuro collapsed from exhaustion. His soul could not keep up, and each breath was weak and forced. Out of respect, Gringei allowed a few Kasumi’Oji to take Mamuro to receive medical attention in one of their facilities. The battle was over, and the Kasumi’Oji had lost everything. Yoshihiro would be released only to try to rebuild his family. He lost himself to drugs and alcohol, but that one goal of redemption stayed in tact. First, he birthed an illegitimate daughter, Taiho. Soon after, he was able bring a true heir, Azumi, into the world. And the rest of that story is well known by all Soul Society residents.
But what happened to Mamuro? As far as history was concerned, he seemed to disappear from the surface of the Earth. And that wasn’t far from the truth. Mamuro Kasumi’Oji was below the surface, several floors below a hospital in New York City. The facility doubled a Kasumi’Oji research center, and it was Mamuro’s last hope. They were working on a special undertaking that created permanent artificial bodies that could be programmed into super-soldiers. The research always seemed to fail, however. No artificial souls could inhabit these bodies for a long period of time. It seemed like the research had hit a dead end, but the scientists had one last proposal. It was a last ditch effort, but if they could transfer a real soul into an artificial body, it might just succeed. And that is exactly what was done with the unconscious Mamuro Kasumi’Oji. As the family bled on the floor, the scientists dubbed their final effort Project Himitsu Misute, or Project Silent Pain. And so Mamuro underwent the procedure without the knowledge of the public world. There was no way of knowing that he would lose his memories and powers. After the procedure, the scientist erased their own memories of that event, hoping that one day, Mamuro would return and bring their family glory without his illness holding him back. The only part of that day that was recovered was the actual research. Azumi was able to uses an enhanced version of that procedure to create Hotaru Kuchiki, but as far as anyone was concerned, Mamuro Kasumi’Oji was dead.
The modern Kasumi’Oji family has had many faces, all of which belonged to the same main bloodline. Most recently Taiho. Before, her sister, Azumi. Before her, Yoshihiro, her father. Part 1 - The First Death
"You want to know about my life?" he asked, slightly confused and thrown off by the sudden question. His dazed smile definitely showed his confusion. However, she stared back at him with her usual innocent smile. It was a little unsettling how she can ask him something so serious with such a carefree expression. He never dabbled with her past and the least he wanted was the same. But he wasn't about to refuse either.
"Yeah. I mean, before you died, what happened? How did you get stuck in this rotten hospital before you were finally put out of your misery?" She hated this hospital, yet, for some reason, they never left. It made no sense but with the world changing around them, we were a little scared to explore what we were missing. I frowned at her slightly, biting his lower lip in thought. But the moment seemed to drag on forever but it was about time he ended it.
"I-I don't know. I can't remember." He averted his gaze to the ground, slightly embarrassed to admit that he had little to know memory of his life. Her smile faltered, turning into a confused frown. Ayumi opened her mouth to press the topic further but Himitsu cut her off, knowing exactly what types of questions she would ask. "I mean,, I remember a little bit. I had some sort of disease in my brain, and no matter how many times the doctors told me, I could never remember what it was called. I couldn't remember much really. Just that I read the same books over and over. I walked around the hospital a lot. And one day, I took a nap and woke up like this. That's when I found you."
Himitsu offered her an uncertain smile that was met by a blank stare. She just sat their silently as he waited for her response, refusing to give him one. Eventually, he had to break the silence, as painful as that was. "So...?"
She blinked in response, suddenly returning from a trance of deep thought. Himitsu never got a chance to know what was going on in her mind. Her smile was quickly, though. "So what? I guess you can consider this to be your real life. Your first and best life. And lucky for you, you get to spend it all with me." Ayumi flashed him a playful wink. Himitsu opened his mouth to laugh and joke about what he had to have done in his life to deserve spending eternity with the likes of Ayumi before he was cut off by a threatening roar. Shocked, Ayumi and Himitsu turned to find four menacingly large creatures with bone white masks snarling at them.
Part 2 - The Second Death
]Himitsu was scared. Not quite as scared as Ayumi was, but still scared. She grabbed for his arm, digging her nails into his skin. But he was grateful for it. It kept him awake and alert. Without that rush, he might not have survived. "Wha-what's happening?" He didn't answer. He was too busy staring at the inhumane creatures. It was almost like a stare off but Himitsu's gaze only met red orbs in the eye slots of the monsters' masks. "Himitsu?"
One of the beasts took a step forward. His eyes widened. Himitsu's voice started at a whisper but ended with a thunderous shout. "Ayumi. RUN!" He jumped to his feet and sprinted for the stairs that spiraled down into the hospital. Why he thought the hospital was some sort of taboo for the monsters, he didn't know. But he needed some sort of haven for them to escape to. Ayumi was dragged behind him until she found her footing and kept up. But, somehow, she decelerated quickly and soon fell a few feet behind him.
Himitsu made it to the doors first. However, two of those creatures were already there to meet him. One of them threw him back with a swipe of its massively powerful hand. Himitsu was nearly knocked off the edge of the skyscraper. However, he caught himself with one hand while the rest of his body dangled in the air. "HIMITSU!" Ayumi shrieked. He thought she was concerned and she believed he was knocked off the cliff.
As he pulled himself up, he called to her to reassure her. "Don't worry, Ayumi. I'm fine. Just get out of here!" But as soon as he lifted his head over the corner of the building, he met a sight that made his heart skip a beat (That was another pun. You see, he's dead so his heart can't beat... never mind). She was trapped between the fingers of the largest of the demons. Tears spilled over her eyes as she stared at him. Ayumi wasn't worrying about Himitsu. She was screaming for his help.
With a sudden rush of energy, he pulled himself back onto the roof and jumped to his feat. Himitsu let out a blood-boiling yell and rushed at the monster that had caught her. The creatures didn't react. It was more like they were watching him out of enjoyment with no fear of the damage he wanted to cause. Himitsu leaped so that his body was level with the monster's mask. With the added power from gravity, he let his fist fall and slammed it as hard as he could into the creature's mask... only to meet a solid, impenetrable resistance. As the pain shot up his arm and spread through his body, an invisible force knocked him out of the air and back a few feet.
"Himitsu," Ayumi whispered, not loud enough for him to hear. Through the crack he kept open in his eyes, he could read her lips. Before he could respond and get back up to continue the fight, the beast tossed her into its mouth. Ayumi was no more.
It took a few seconds for reality to settle. Those words just rang through his mind in a tedious repetition, each phrase overlapping over the ones before and after it. Ayumi was no more. Ayumi was no more. Ayumi was no more. Any motivation Himitsu had to get up vanished and evaporated into thin air. He just wanted the demons to finish him as quickly as possible so he could be with Ayumi again. He could see her any second from now...
A black figure appeared out of nowhere. It held a long thick blade that it swung as easily as if it were a paperclip. It soared straight through one of the beasts, vaporizing it into dust. Then, with another few strokes, he eliminated the other two smaller creatures. Finally, the only one that remained was the last demon. The mysterious soldier in black pointed his hand at the monster, shooting a luminous white light at it that launched it into the air before it dematerialized and was defeat.
Finally, the dark knight slowly walked up to Himitsu, but, by then, Himitsu welcomed whatever damage that man would bring him. He just awaited his end. "Please, kill me now," he whispered, praying that he would grant him his wish.
Instead the man merely laughed. But as soon as his chuckle ended, it was replaced by a sympathetic frown. "I'm sorry I didn't get here in time to save the other one, but at least you may finally enjoy paradise." Himitsu didn't comprehend what he said. It didn't mean anything to him. Nothing meant anything to him. Strangely, though, the man stamped Himitsu's head with the bottom of his sword's hilt. Himitsu's vision was suddenly flooded with a bright white light...
Part 3 - A New Beginning
At first, Himitsu didn't know what was going on. He found himself in the midst of an overly-populated village with various aged men working in various stores and young children running and playing around their feet. Himitsu's confusion suddenly turned into panic. His mind went wild with thoughts and he randomly spurted out questions to anyone that passed by.
"Where am I?" he asked one elder man. The man, with an old raspy voice, replied, "Calm down, son. You're safe here in Soul Society." Like that was supposed to calm him down. The old man continued to walk away. Then, a woman walked by Himitsu's side. Like a madman, he suddenly bursted into a question. "What is this place, Soul Society?" She seemed startled and a little violated. While taking a few steps back and hurrying away, she answered. "It's heaven. This is where you can stay from now on."
Himitsu's anxiety was beginning to increase rapidly. Was he supposed to start a new life here? How? Where would he even begin? Then he remembered the man in black that sent him here. "There was this man I saw before coming here! He was wearing black clothes and held a giant sword! Who was he?" He cried out to several people walking by, most of which ignored him and kept moving. One man across the street, however, stared at Himitsu with mild amusement. It took a few moments for Himitsu to notice him, but as soon as he did, his eyes popped in surprise. This man was wearing the same black uniform as the one that sent him to Soul Society. However, another trait made him stand out amongst the crowd. He possessed unusual bright red eyes that gleamed as they examined Himitsu. It was curious, yet unsettling. Himitsu cautiously approached this mysterious man. "Can you help me?" he asked.
The man merely spared him a small smile. "Of course. What is it that you need?" That bothered Himitsu slightly. The man had heard him raving on with his confused question and watched like he was putting on a show. Now he was just playing dumb. "I know you heard me back there. All I'm asking for is some answer." Himitsu's stomach began to growl suddenly in a loud and very noticeable manner. "Over dinner, maybe?"
Sozen, however, seemed to finally take interest at the mention of food. "You're hungry?" He asked in confusion. That puzzlement spread quickly to Himitsu as well. "Well, yeah. I haven't eaten since..." Sudden realization settles with Himitsu. He slowly continues, "... since I died." Himitsu pondered the situation to himself before following up with another one of his many questions. "Is that normal?"
Sozen laughed and began walking down the street. Himitsu followed after him uncertainly. He could't quite match the tone of confidence that Sozen held, though. And for some reason, several people nearby peered out at him from nearby stores and pointed fingers. Who was this person. Finally, Sozen spoke. "You're really clueless, aren't you?" Himitsu didn't need to answer. "Well then, where should I begin..."
And that is when Sozen dove with Himitsu into the world of spirits, shinigami, hollows, arrancar, and Soul Society. He explained Reitsu and Zanpakuto and the rankings within the Shinigami as well. Himitsu was instantly captivated. It was like the stories that he read about in the books come alive. It was what he wanted to do. "I want to become a shinigami," he told Sozen with more conviction that he thought he had. Sozen responded with a smile and a few words. "Then do it."
Himitsu and his new Zanpakuto spirit, Flex Powers, grew close quickly, and he benefited from its unique abilities. As Himitsu grew stronger, he began reaching out to those around him, trying to decide which Shinigami he could trust as just allies or who were impure. His goal was to make the Gotei 13 as close to their ideology as possible, but as it stood, Himitsu seemed to face an impossible task. The most prominent black stain in Seireitei seemed to be a criminal family, the Kasumi’Oji. However, after confronting Shunsui Kasumi’Oji, Himitsu began to realize that he couldn’t begin at the individual level. People didn’t seem to be inherently bad. Evil seemed to reside in large groups, and that was the problem. So addressing person-by-person was a poor strategy that he had to rethink.
Until Himitsu could come up with a new plan, he threw himself into his duties. When Soul Society was invaded, leading to Saeki Kuchiki’s prison breakout, Himitsu battled against Kouhai’s right hand Guujin Karai. Saeki turned Flex against Himitsu, and in that time of weakness, Guujin incapacitated the Vice Captain, bringing him out of the fight. Despite the brutal defeat, Himitsu and Flex reignited the fire behind their relationship, vowing to fight alongside each other regardless of the obstacles in their way.
