Hi there. We're back. Last time I got a call saying "Do it right or we shut off the lights" and well...can't afford to have one of the bigger discussion creating writing sections be shut down. So anyways, today I want to bring up a issue I have found, but others seemed to have not, with the Fighter type. Specifically with Fighter v2. Full disclosure time, yes I almost made the character whose account I am using to write this into a Fighter type. And yes I did not do it when I found out just how shafted HWDs are when it comes to this type. So yes, this topic could, in your eyes, be an attempt by me to make the type more appealing for my own character. But, please, you wouldn't be here if you were not interested. Please put such thoughts aside and have an open mind in regards to the subject at hand.
Anyways, let's get on with what I need to talk about. We all know how Fighter v2 works. It's a type that prioritizes the release over techniques, most notably by disallowing reiatsu based techniques from being learned. Sounds simple enough, right? No magic in exchange for a release focused character? Unfortunately...this isn't the case. I find that the type heavily benefits Shinigami players and their off shoots (Rogues and Vizards) in a unfair way compared to Human World Dwellers. Why is this? Let's look! See, while Fighter restricts access to things like Kido...Shinigami still have access to Hakuda. The Shinigami martial art techniques are, at best, a grey area for this type. Fighters are, seemingly, allowed to have them as a way to at least give them some techniques, but we have Hakuda that explicitly use reiatsu.
A few of the Wild Arts and Rasengeki come to mind. So Fighters cant use Kido...but they can still use reiatsu techniques. See what I mean? There is a bit of a inconsistency in what Fighters can and can't use. I, painstakingly, went through all of our accepted Shinigami to find our FIghter types to look through their techniques to see if they had techniques that would classify as "reiatsu techniques". I want to address this now: To the players of the apps I am going to link now I am not trying to disrespect you in any way. I am simply show casing Fighter type characters that have techniques that, seemingly, shouldn't be allowed by the type.
Hotaru kuchiki has Tsuba and Direction, both which seem more like Kido than Hakuda.
Aevus has stuff like Entei, and Ni.
Kaen is a Fighter v1, which has the same drawbacks to Fighter v2, and he has Sakugen.
So you see what I mean when I say there is a inconsistency with what is and isn't acceptable as techniques for Fighters? But even with this, Shinigami have a huge unfair advantage with this type in comparison to HWDs. Why? Because they have access to these techniques. I've seen it said that Fighter HWDs cannot have Willpower, Bounts can't have their racials even a good number of them should be allowed since they are techniques that augment or alter the Bounts physical bodies. Are Mod Souls allowed to have their Giga or Mofingu techniques? Why can Rogues use Vita Sollertias while the other races are unable to use their own unique racial techniques? Can Arrancar still use Hierro? And if so, why? It's a reiatsu technique isn't it? Why can Vizards still use Vizard Cero if the Inner Hollow shares their type?
What I am asking for is more clarity on what can and can't be used as techniques. Here's the way I see it should work. Fighter causes the user to give up their section of magic based techniques. Shinigami, Rogues and Vizards lose Kido. Bount, Quincy, Mod Souls give up Energy Generate. Arrancar give up Ceros. But, in keeping in line with Shinigami still being able to use Hakuda, the others, especially HWDs, should still be able to use things like Willpower and a number of body based techniques, like Schatten for Bount. Fighter type HWDs have nothing, they're unfairly disadvantaged. There is a reason there are no HWD Fighters. Techniques win fights. Even Fighters, the release specialists, use techniques.
Hell, if it makes things easier than we could do a case by case thing. Someone is playing a Fighter and wants to learn a technique? PM a mod asking if its okay, or present an argument as for why you believe it's okay. There are a lot of techniques, a lot of characters, and I get that it can be hard, or impossible, to keep track of everything.
Off topic a little but I have to ask....why the hell are Quincy approved for this type? I mean...the entire Quincy structure revolves around reiatsu and reiatsu related abilities. But hey, that's my rant. It's a little weird because I am on some medicine, but go ahead and give it a read.
