John shrugged his shoulders, not fazed by Jack's answer. Well, now he was definitely worth investigating. John smiled. Jack was still under the impression John was working alone. But if the whole force of the Vandenreich came crashing down on his little operation, things would be a different story.
"Oh, that's ok then, sir. I'll just settle for the equipment. I've always wanted a Selee Schneide."
John let the excitement creep into his voice deliberately. It was so easy to put on, because he was kind of excited about it. Selee Schneide were so cool. Like the lightsabers in Star Wars, their design was simple yet elegant. A nice, effective replacement for his Hohle Schneide. Plus, perhaps when he was stronger, he could learn the Quincy technique 'Sprenger', which would make him a fearsome foe in battle.
The bartender walked over and deposited two silver objects on the table. Of course, these were the Selee Schneide. When not active, one could mistake them for simple metal pipes with a hook at the end. But if one looked closely, they would see the hilts were square, not round. And they would also notice the fine engravings down the side, which were purely just to make them look slightly cooler.
John put his hands on them eagerly, like a child with new toys. He looked at the bartender, and nodded as a sign of thanks.
"Thank you very much."
He said to Jack with a smile. But the two 'adults' had already moved on in their conversation. As they spoke, John felt a sense of fear growing in his heart. They were talking about... killing Spiritual Beings? That... that... John looked at Kazura, almost a frantic begging in his eyes. He remembered how Kazura had mercilessly pummelled him for information, and John believed fully that Kazura would kill to further his research. The deal was getting closer to being signed, Kazura just had to add his signature.
But Jack had turned to John again. The threat in his voice was not difficult to detect. If John so much as made a move to contact anyone, he would die. John felt his fear replaced by annoyance. Jack was really confident of his own abilities.
"What secrets, sir?"
John said innocently, like he would have at primary school. He hoped, as far as Jack was concerned, that he was no longer considered a threat.
