Kaen, all of a sudden and out of nowhere, in a completely unexpected manner, was struck across the cheek by something! A small droplet of blood dripped forth from a cut that had formed on his cheek. Simultaneously, his flames met nothing. No ice. No water. That was unusual. How could it have happened? It should of course have been impossible for those to hit Kaen. His fire should have blocked it. But no, it had done no such thing. His fire had met nothing. And he had been cut across the cheek. And then, all of a sudden, again across the arm, a mere split second after the cheek. On his left arm, blood was trailing down. Down his cheek too. What was that?! Kaen had been hit, but how? Better yet, why had his fire come into contact with nothing? Had it just been so light as to not be detected?
As Kaen was circling Ken, he'd find something peculiar. The water began to rise up, and circle heavily around Ken. It was becoming a larger and larger flooding torrent of water. What would Kaen do, given the enormous attack that was surely being prepared? By matter of fact it looked like there were prickling blades of ice inside of the water torrent. To avoid being caught up in it, he would have to continuously back off a little bit while circling Ken, and give some space so that he was not caught up in the torrent of water. And yet, even as this happened, a second cut formed on his cheek, merely an inch or so below the first cut. They were perfectly parallel. The blood ran in between the two and mixed into a larger droplet.
Ken smirked at Kaen. "It would be troubling to me if your ability could directly counter mine." he said. "Luckily it can't." And then another cut formed on Kaen's chest. All cuts were relatively shallow, drawing merely a droplet of blood. However, it stood to reason that it was odd for this to be happening, given that Kaen's eyes, through all of the hits, would detect nothing. The rushing sound of the water grew louder and louder. The torrent became more and more drowning of all other noises. Exactly what was going on? Kaen was surely in trouble in his current state. What was going to happen?! Why was this all happening so easily?! Time to investigate a little bit. What was the meaning behind these attack connections?

Meanwhile. . .
"I am here," the Captain Commander said, "For a very simple reason. Indeed, we have already mapped out the strengths and weaknesses of all of you who have arrived. You were indeed the strongest, those also the first to fall. The others will more than likely soon join you in this prison, and together you will probably stand trial." As the Captain Commander spoke, Raito would hear a woman's high pitched scream. And then lots of other shocked screams. He'd see blood everywhere in a Squad's barracks. The walls, the floors, everything. And there was a corpse too, with a white haori on it. The insignia for "7." "Youare all to be detained pertaining to investigation in the assassination and death of Squad 7 Captain Irie Makimaki."
Two hours previously. . .
It was a typical day for anyone that was meant to clean Squad 7's barracks. And yet, it was anything but typical when the barracks were opened up, having been empty all day by some executive order. It was anything but an ordinary day when the barrack doors were opened, and the halls and walls were decked with with blood. The floors too were smeared. Everything was bathed in that dark red liquid. And further investigation resulted in the pulling out of a corpse on a stretcher. Irie Makimaki. Squad 7 Captain. On that stretcher, the corpse was identified as legitimate. The heart had been gouged out, as had the eyes. The hands had also been cut off. The fatal wound however was unidentified. The body had died before the heart was lost. Something else had happened.
And therefore the squadrons rushed to and fro, getting information across, getting healers, etc. It was a disaster, really. The first death of a Captain in the Gotei Thirteen. And moreover, the first assassination of a Captain. It would not be the last in the Gotei Thirteen's long history, but it would certainly always be one of the most remembered and infamous. This had not been a weak man. He had been a Captain of incredible and immeasurable strength. So how it so happened that he had ended up murdered was uncertain, and the culprit was not known either. No traces of reiatsu had been found at the scene. As a result, they'd been forced to simply go off assumption rather than true leads. And this was why others were to be detained as soon as possible.
