Ryunosuke took his first steps into the academy main building, on a fine Sunday morning. His attire was wearing the male uniform, immaculately groomed and clean. Loads of people were running all about, trying to get to class early, or on time. He then walked to the closest map. Then he took a look at his class planner. [Double Kendo, eh?] He then look a another look at the map, in which there was almost a line building up. The class was up on the second floor. He quickly made he was up the closest stair case. Halfway up, he got a little bit apprehensive, as the stair-case was filling up with a numerous amount of students. Luckily, they were all heading in the same direction. He shuddered at the thought of going up or down the stair-case in the middle of two lessons.
When he got up the stair-case, he then found another map. It dictated that the class room in question was merely up the corridor, about 10 doors down on the left. He than walked with a sense of urgency, counting the doors in his head. All sorts of academy students walked past him and with him, red and blue, large and small. Even a teacher, who was most likely late to class… Or had no class to teach in the first lesson. He then found the appropriate door. It was a rather large door, or to say it correctly, doors. He then quickly opened the door, hoping that he wasn’t late for the class.

OOC: Would you please post your stats and first year schedule in separate spoilers?
IC: Ryunosuke seemed to be quite overwhelmed by the sheer size of the Academy, being just another face in a sea of students desperately looking towards the future possibility of being Shinigami, defenders of the Soul Society and those who brought about peace to other souls. Whatever Ryunosuke's reasons for wanting to become a Shinigami, he'd definitely have his work cut out for him. Here at the Shino Academy, those who were weak never became anything special, those who were lazy were culled, and those who couldn't bear to take orders from others found themselves beat down mercilessly. The teachers were strict, but definitely fostered a military environment, for that's what the Gotei 13 truly was, a military.
Ryunosuke found his way quite easily into his first class, Kendo 1, with his teacher being a tall man with a very serious face. He was completely shaven, bald even, over the entirety of his head and showed no emotion but distaste as the brand new students walked in. He snorted as they all settled into a loose gaggle of bodies inside the dojo-like room. "This is the next generation of Shinigami? Can't even form proper ranks? It sickens me to see such weakness. It's the same every year, only one or two students out of every batch will make it as anything decent. I'm guessing this is one of the groups with not even a single good one."
The sensei was not impressed by the group of students, how would Ryunosuke present himself as a student of merit, if he was even able to stand out among the crowd at all? The teacher just stood there, looking at the students with a blank expression. Maybe something that he had said was a clue as to what he wanted them to do? If Ryunosuke was smart, and wanted to prove himself right off the bat as a student worth paying attention to, then now might be his chance to shine. However, there were quite a few students around him that could probably take advantage of this moment just as well as he could. Would he want to take action, or would he want to just go with the flow for now?

IC: Form? Form ranks? What had the good sensei mean by form ranks? Surely he knew that this was the first class of the year... With brand new students? This puzzled Ryunosuke a bit... The good sensei probably meant... Some form of organization... But what? A straight line? Most possibly... Though in what direction? Horizonatally? Vertically? He had no honest clue.
From what he saw of the sensei, he wasn't the kind who like chatter-boxes, and he wasn't a very casual teacher, coming from his overall dress, which was spit-spot perfect. This most likely meant that he couldn't ask a near-by stdent for some help, or he might be smacked with a kendo practise sword, and probably gain disrespect with his teacher... What to do?
He went back to thinking... Organization was most likely what the sensei meant... Was there a certain drill movement with this? Well, if he made a stand now, and tried to impress him, he may be shot down right away, and probably have to do some sort of physical punishment... What to do?
He then took a leap of faith. He slowly moved to the front of the gaggle of students. He then stood up straight, arms by his side, looking straight ahead. This was probably a lucky guess, though what kind? Good? Bad? He hoped at least a student might help assure him somehow... This cloud make or break his standing with his sensei... And probably make him some-what of a laughing stock with his peers. Then again, he saw something moving out of the corner of his eye... Maybe a student who got the same idea?

Ryunosuke made his way to the front of the crowd of students, having to nudge some of them out of the way in order to step out as an example. No one followed him, no one else moved as he walked forwards and just stood there. His arms were at his side and he was looking straight ahead, but he was the only one, as everyone else was looking at him, just staring at him. Even the teacher was staring at him with piercing emerald eyes. The entire room of possibly two hundred souls were all staring at him, sizing him up. What they saw was a student who was incredibly average, nothing special. Some of them chuckled at the scrawny figure before them, but where quickly silenced by a stern glare from the sensei, for it seemed that he had not finished his observations of the man.
When no one followed Ryunosuke to the front, or into any sort of orderly fashion, the sensei spoke up. "Kid, none of your fellow students follow you, and do you know why that is? Because they're stupid, probably. You're the only one in the class with any sense of military conduct it would seem, you'll probably go far. As for the rest of them, we'll just have to wait and see." What was this? Ryunosuke was being complimented for his actions? The entire room got hushed fast in shock, but that quickly devolved into a sense of animosity. Ryunosuke currently was being portrayed as the teacher's pet, the favored one, and as everyone knows that doesn't bode well for the rest of the students. All eyes were on him again, only now they were sending daggers of hatred through the air at his exposed back. This was not how Ryunosuke wanted to start off his first day of his first year, so he'd have to do something to either deal with his title as teacher's pet or make it up to the students without letting his grade suffer.
With an audible sigh, eventually the class settled into some sort of square formation with Ryunosuke at the front. In their eyes, he had put himself above them by being favored by the teacher for his actions, thus they left him standing at the head of the formation in order to be an example and a scapegoat. If the teacher was to lash out, Ryunosuke would be the one he'd have to go through first, and the rest of the class was currently ok with that. Maybe as time went on their feelings would subside, however the first day of the Academy was stressful for all as it was, and this was just another stress to be put upon them. "Ah, that's better. Now I can properly introduce myself. I am Elektra Conda, former Captain of Squad 11 and current professor of Kendo 1 and Kendo 10. You will call me Sensei, nothing more. I see the beginning and end of your lives as warriors, so I know which ones actually make something of themselves and which ones don't."
With the last remark, Elektra nodded in Ryunosuke's direction. It almost seemed as if he was doing this on purpose, isolating Ryunosuke so that he could sink or swim of his own accord. The fresh student would definitely have his work cut out for him right now, so he'd have to be cunning to stay above water. Brains often beat out brawn, and Ryunosuke didn't look like the one to have a lot of brawn. The class was instructed to partner up for an introductory sparring session to get their blood moving as well as test out their ability to fight. Their Sensei would be watching each of them, so now was their time to get his attention and possibly his favor, if they still held on to the shallow hope that his favor could improve their grade. At the moment, everyone wanted to fight Ryunosuke, rough him up a bit, but one girl managed to get to him first.
"So, you're the teacher's pet this year? Well I'm going to be the best Captain of Squad 11 that there ever has been, so I need to show that I've got what it takes. Pick up your Kendo rod and face me so that I can prove myself to the Sensei." Ryunosuke would literally have no choice but to comply with the girl who had not given her name. She was much smaller than him, measuring about four foot eleven, so there was over a foot in height difference between them two. Her straight, reddish blonde hair was tied back into a bun to stay out of her dull blue eye and she was wearing the typical first year student uniform. If she hadn't been holding a sword pointed at Ryunosuke, she might have seemed very attractive, and maybe she still did, however she definitely appeared hot tempered and controlling, an epitome of feminism. This was probably a lot for Ryunosuke to take in, but he had to just push on and deal with it.

"Kid, none of your fellow students follow you, and do you know why that is? Because they're stupid, probably. You're the only one in the class with any sense of military conduct it would seem, you'll probably go far. As for the rest of them, we'll just have to wait and see."
Somehow, he was half relieved, half shocked. He actually got it right. However... The good sensei seemed stern and truthful in his actions... A lot of work would be needed, but at least it was a step in the right direction with his sensei. Good first examples with a teacher are necessary to get ahead. However, he'd have to work hard to remove the "Teacher's Pet" mark of his back, stained by the eyes of many.
How? He was only used to little social groups, not a massive class. He'd have to figure it out later. Then the group moved into ranks, which subsided his worry for now.
"Former captain, eh? And of the battle squad, Squad 11. How suitable for Kendo class." He let that ring in his mind after the speech. Then, the instructions came in. He realized that he'd be in a whole lot of pain, or be suffocated by the people coming to challenge him. Thankfully, he wasn't suffocated, though there was a big group coming towards him, basically, the whole class. "Oh boy...", he muttered under his breath, when the class was approaching him.
"So, you're the teacher's pet this year? Well I'm going to be the best Captain of Squad 11 that there ever has been, so I need to show that I've got what it takes. Pick up your Kendo rod and face me so that I can prove myself to the Sensei." stated the girl, in a so-matter-of-fact voice, with a slight twist of tempered anger thrown into it.
"Teachers Pet... A deplorable title." He stood and analyzed her briefly. There was a massive different in height, 4"11, compared to his 6"0, one foot and a bit. Though, as was smaller, she'd be more focused on speed, than strength, and thus, probably able to out-run him. If she was the opposite gender, then they would probably be evenly matched in strength. Due to his height, he's have longer arms, therefore, longer range, giving him another advantage. He'd need everyone he had.
He got his index finger and pushed the blade down at the tip, with his fingertip, away from his body, slowly, in a non-aggressive manner, trying to not make the lady flare up in anger again. "Hey, you don't need to point it at me yet. Match hasn't started." He then picked up a Kendo rod. He messed around with it for a few seconds, checking the weight and the like.
"You know, it isn't very polite to challenge someone, then not give out your name." He then took a vertical swing at the air, which whipped the air. It was slightly longer than the bamboo rods he made and practiced with his friends, though it was still a nice piece of craftsmanship. He then took a final glance over the blade in it's entirety.
"Well, if you want to start, then be my guest." Holding the rod in a defensive position, in front of his body. He was ready for attack, calculating possible methods of attack from the lady. Front, side, above... Behind? If she was fast enough for behind, then he was probably not going to win. However, due to her rather... Tempered anger, she'd probably go for straight ahead. Hopefully, Ryunosuke wouldn't of miss calculated.

The girl snorted quite haughtily as Ryunosuke bluntly asked for her name, not in so many words, but that was the intent behind his remark it seemed. "You'll get my name when you earn it, not a moment before. I will tell you, though, I'm not one to be trifled with, especially due to my familial roots. Don't try and think that you'll walk out of this class unscathed today, for you're going to be in a lot of pain." This girl was really full of herself, and was downright insulting him without him even beginning to try and see what he was capable of. Whether or not that would serve to be her undoing remained to be seen. The girl had let him push her sword out of his face, grudgingly, but she had let him. She tapped her foot in impatience as he tested out the sword he had selected, apparently way too slowly for her, as if she was used to things being at her beck and call at any time she wished.
With an exasperated sigh she exaggerated her relief that Ryunosuke was ready to begin the exercise that their Sensei had given them. She gave a shrill whistle to get everyone's attention, further representing herself as someone of apparent importance. "Hey, everyone! Watch as I bring down the only one who was worth anything here in this class!" She rushed at Ryunosuke, being completely predictable in her attack. She was using her full speed, which was that of an athlete, to try and blitz Ryu with purely physical force. She had her Kendo stick pointed upwards, but her hands down low, using it as a shield and battering ram to plow into Ryu. When she came into contact with him, she pushed off with her feet into a front flip. This acrobatic move would leave her striking at Ryu's back from up above him and even though the Kendo sticks were wooden that didn't stop them from being painful.

"You'll get my name when you earn it, not a moment before. I will tell you, though, I'm not one to be trifled with, especially due to my familial roots. Don't try and think that you'll walk out of this class unscathed today, for you're going to be in a lot of pain." This gave a slight bit of... Satisfaction? That could be a word. "Someone seems to have too much over-confidence." He let that echo in his mind for a bit. Then went back to paying attention to the lady who was dueling him.
"Hey, everyone! Watch as I bring down the only one who was worth anything here in this class!" "Wow... So overconfident, it's unbearable!" He thought, again.
She then charged as he predicted. He, however, had another plan. He quickly moved the rod his left arm, holding it on his right side, ready to intercept the blow. He saw her muscles tensing in her arms, gripping the rod hard. He waited, then something unexpected happened, something she could never account for. He then moved the rod, to his left, taking her blade with her, leaving her open.
He then quickly gave a knee to the stomach, in a attempt to wind her, then quickly, with a flick of his wrist, slam his kendo rod down on her fingers, which was easily strong enough and had enough momentum and force to cause her to release her kendo rod if played right.
He then danced circles around her, giving a show that could impress sensei and his classmates, due to the fact it was only the first class of the year, and the short amount of time spent in the match. He was hitting her joints, sides and pressure points, followed by a quick kick in the back of the knee to bring her down on the floor, hopefully covered in bumbs and bruises, and he could pull it off, due to his swordplay skills and superior strength due to gender difference. No amount of speed could save her and her over-confidence.
When she was on the ground, he aimed the kendo rod at her neck, though not so that it was pressing against it. She would be breathing heavily, and moaning in pain if she wasn't prepared. "Do you yield?" asked Ryunosuke, asking a emotionless voice, not pride, nor happiness in his victory. It was merely a win, against a girl, who was merely overconfident, in both her family and her skills as a swordsman.

OOC: By the way, just for your information, when graders grade a thread based on paragraph amount (which is what they do when it is anything but the Academy), they consider a proper paragraph to have at least 5-6 sentences, and large blocks of dialogue won't count either, so try and get in the habit of grouping your posts together in blocks of at least 5 sentences so you don't lose out on the TP that you've earned due to poor paragraph length.
IC: The girl charged blindly, mistaking Ryunosuke's humble appearance for weakness. She couldn't have been more wrong. Though they both possessed equal strengths, Ryunosuke had her far outmatched in pure skill with the sword and had already been ready for her attack before she had even begun to make it. Her Kendo rod had been knocked aside before she had prepared to make her flip, and she had her stomach battered by her opponent's quickly raised knee. All of the breath in her lungs was forcibly expelled by the contact between the bone and her abdomen, and she audibly gasped as her body seemed to float in the air on top of his knee.
Her feet touched the ground again but the pain and the shame was far from over. With a flick of his wrist, Ryunosuke brought his kendo rod hard across her knuckles, and only through sheer stubbornness and the clenched fist of pain did she manage to keep a hold of it. The next barrage of blows struck her before she could even manage to keep air in her lungs. She did have a speed advantage over Ryunosuke, but that only barely allowed her to deflect some of the blows. As she was struck in pressure points of her arms and the rest of her body, eventually she succumbed to the pain and dropped her arms limply to her side and let her weapon fall to the mat underfoot.
With a kick to the Popliteal Fossa, the girl's leg buckled and she was forced to the ground. Bruises were already starting to form on her otherwise flawless skin, and as she saw them she seemed as if she might start to get choked up over the blemishes coating her arms and quite possibly the rest of her body, though she couldn't see it. She was relieved to see, however, that her outfit had not been overly messed up, due to the blunt nature of the training weapons that they had been fighting with. The relief vanished from her face as one of those weapons was thrust to her neck in a very aggressive manner and Ryunosuke asked her if she yielded. "This isn't over, you common dog, not by a long shot." She tried to move her arms to knock aside the sword held at her neck, but was simply unable.
She struggled and struggled to overcome the pain and knock aside the sword, but she just couldn't do it. The pressure points that had been hit hard needed a chance to recover, as the intense firing of the nerves could have knocked her out, but instead simply denied her the use of her arms in any manner that required strength. With a defiant glare and a sigh, she changed her words. "I guess I have no choice but to yield. And I guess I've no choice but to tell you my name now. My name is Katarina, Katarina Kasumi' Oji." The whole room gasped and took a few extra paces back from the spar quite rapidly. During the whole time that Katarina had been crushed the rest of the students had been rooted to their positions by the brutal show of force, but the revelation that she was nobility, and nobility of a very dangerous family at that was enough to shock them into retreating a fair distance away, even if they had been safe where they were.
Whether or not Ryunosuke removed the sword from her neck, Katarina would attempt to stand with as much dignity as she had left. Her arms hung loosely at her side like spaghetti noodles and she couldn't even bend down enough to grip the Kendo rod tightly enough, it simply slipping out of her grasp as she tried three and four times to pick it up. A few chuckles escaped from the crowd, followed by some scattered laughter before the entire room echoed with a raucous uproar. Lonely tears struck and were absorbed into the mat as Katarina ran off out of the room, accidentally leaving behind a long white ribbon next to Ryunosuke. It was an elegant ribbon of silk, and well kept, though she probably would never be back to retrieve it nor would she probably realize that it was missing. Ryunosuke couldn't avoid seeing it, so what would he do with it?

OOC: 'Kay then.
IC: Ryunosuke's plan had worked, more-so due to the predictability of his opponent than anything else. This was some-sort of relief to him. He was surprised that she still had a grip on her Kendo rod. Most people would drop it and blow on their hand in a attempt to make the pain fade out. She was seemingly resilient in his eyes. Her speed, which was double of his, also protected her a bit. However, she couldn't block the rapid strikes. Maybe was going overboard? Maybe he was infuriated in his treatment by her, subconsciously. On the surface, he was calm, unaffected. In his conscious mind, it was of a similar nature. Maybe something went 'click' in his head. He was never this aggressive. Never. When she fell to the ground with his hard kick, he could see her eyes, darting all over her body, wincing at the bruises she could see. Her uniform was slightly crinkled where he had striked her, though nothing a mere second of grooming couldn't fix. Nothing appalling, nor embarrassing.
The aggressiveness was apparent when he'd thrust the rod to her neck, and his question of if she would yield. Her response wasn't truly unexpected. "This isn't over, you common dog, not by a long shot." Common dog. Was that all he was? Sure, a fair number of students where nobility. Not high ranking nobility, but still. Maybe that was all he was. Common. Though he could see the effort that went into moving her arms, as still as they were. He was glad he went to the extra effort of hitting the pressure points. Otherwise, he would have to think of another plan to keep her down. He could see her glare. Right at him. It was defiant. It wanted to continue. Though nothing it could do could make it so. He then heard her sigh, then spoke these words, "I guess I have no choice but to yield. And I guess I've no choice but to tell you my name now. My name is Katarina, Katarina Kasumi' Oji."
The whole room was taken aback. They retreated away from her, from even the safe boundaries of where they were. He heard whispering of her family name. A respected, yet powerful and dangerous name. That would mean that was near royalty. Why would she be in the Shino Academy? From what he'd heard, the Kasumi' Oji clan had a matriarchal system. And he had heard that they rarely involved themselves in Shinigami affairs. Why was she here? Was she the second daughter? Not meant to take the throne? Or was she merely here to be disciplined? Whatever she was here for, he remembered her ambitions to be with Squad 11, and the captain, no less. That took away the latter option.
Whatever she was here for, she was here to stay. He saw her attempt to get up, her arms dangling by her side. Did he hit her that hard? He was... Starting to feel sorry for her. He moved the sword away from her, and pointed it at the ground. He probably should of done less damage, though what's done is done. No point in feeling sorry about it. He watched as she tried to pick up her Kendo rod. Always picking it up, but slipping it from her grasp.
One. It felt like a hammer, nailing a coffin. Two. More nailing. What was she doing? Putting the nail in her coffin for her time here? Did she want to be here that much? Three. It then stopped for a moment. He could hear... Chuckling in the background. A pair of male students. It then spread. Four. More and more people joined in. Only three people weren't laughing at this point. Katarina, Sensei and himself. He saw... Tears. In her eyes. She was... Crying? She ran past Ryunosuke, as she dropped her long, elegant ribbon next to him, accidental or not. She then was out of sight. He slowly bent down, and picked it up. It was well made, was soft and smooth to the touch.
He then slowly moved towards Sensei, ribbon in hand. He then faced the sensei. The next method in his approach, was to ask the Sensei a question, amongst the uproar of laughter, of the inconsiderant students. "Excuse me, Sensei. Would I be able to leave the class to return this ribbon to Kat-..." He stopped himself for a moment. It would be impolite to refer to nobility as their given names. "Kasumi' Oji-san?" He then hoped that the Sensei would allow him to return her belongings to her.

"Permission Denied." The words fell upon the classroom like the gavel of a judge doling out justice. "I will not have my classroom be the den of weaklings nor the source of mercy. She made her decision to flaunt what she didn't have, and she paid the price. That is the way of the Shino Academy, for that is the way of the Shinigami and of War. Find a new opponent, for this session isn't over yet." Most of the class turned back to their forgotten spars, save for three who had either never found a partner with which to spar or had already completed their spars and hadn't found new partners yet. The three of them looked curiously at Ryunosuke, as if they were waiting for him to choose who to fight. This was a monumental shift from earlier when everyone had clamored to beat him up, as if they at least had some fear of his prowess if not respect for him.
The first of the three students was a big, burly man, appearing to be in his mid thirties. He had broad shoulders, a well built physique, and an ingrained frown that probably was permanent. This man had two different colored eyes, one a mute green color and the other a very deep blue. His chin was bald, though from underneath his uniform a large amount of chest hair could be seen. Impatience rippled through the man's posture as he tapped his feet and slouched to the side, which didn't stop him from appearing over six feet tall. Whatever his skill with a blade, this man would probably have considerable physical abilities to have to overcome.
The second of the three students was almost the complete opposite. She was extremely small, shorter than even Katarina, appearing to be only four and a half feet tall at most, and appearing to be no older than fifteen. Her hair was cut short and if it weren't for her hips and breasts she might be mistaken for a boy. The most obvious characteristic that she had was her extreme energy, as she practically bounced up and down and up and down and up and down in place. Her light brown eyes weren't anything special, but they had a nice sparkle to them like most girls tended to have, especially energetic ones like her. She was carrying a Kendo stick in each hand, which could be very problematic if she was as fast as she appeared to be.
The third student was a tall, slender boy appearing to be about twenty years old. Ironically, it seemed as though he took all of the hair off of the girl, for his hair was down to the small of his back. He was of average height, seeming to be about five foot nine or ten, and he stood up with a very straight posture, not unlike a military stance. Why this student hadn't originally gotten into formation was curious, but not unheard of if he was only military-born. His hair was black and straight, and his eyes were green with brown flecks around the iris. The boy didn't appear to have extreme brute strength or extreme speed, at least outwardly he didn't appear to, but looks were often deceiving, and the way he held his Kendo rod upside down was definitely strange. In all of the three students, their facial expressions were the same - it was obvious that no matter what, Ryunosuke would have to attack first.

"Permission Denied." The words echoing out through the room, had put everyone to sheer silence. "I will not have my classroom be the den of weaklings nor the source of mercy. She made her decision to flaunt what she didn't have, and she paid the price. That is the way of the Shino Academy, for that is the way of the Shinigami and of War. Find a new opponent, for this session isn't over yet." Ryunosuke, agreed with his statement. It was truthful. Probably over a thousand had done the same thing, and most likely, all met the same fate. "Yes, Sensei," replied Ryunosuke, being in agreement to the permission to leave and the task to duel again.
He looked over at the three people standing near-by. One, was muscular. That would either mean that he was strong, but slow, or strong and fast, though lacking in other areas. If he wanted someone to duel, and wanted someone to test his physical mettle, he'd be the one. Since he was taller, he'd have a longer reach than Ryunosuke, so that could be a option. The next was... Hyper-active. Too hyper-active. She was short... Really short. She seemingly had a preference for duel wielding weapons. That could make up for lack of strength with the fast nature of her attacks, if she was as speed-oriented as she had imagined. The range of her arms, was shorter then Katarina's, which would be helpful. The last, was a seemingly neutral one. He had no peaks in any areas, as far as Ryunosuke could distinguish. He could be one with more skill than the rest of them, and balanced. His arms were of near equal length of Ryunosuke. He had a very disciplined stance to him. It reeked of confidence and the like. And his reverse stance with the Kendo rod was... Odd. It could be effective in combat. It might be able to exploit angles that the regular and duel stances couldn't reach, though if hit hard enough, could be sent spinning out of the wielder's hands, or at least budging, due to it not having enough strength in one hand, and the way that the hand bends.
Nevertheless, he had a choice in front of him. Physically powerful, though having a regular stance with his Kendo rod. Hyper-active, and rather fast looking, with two Kendo rods. Or one with seemingly no peak in any area, odd stance and could be skillful. Now, there was only one thing that could be left to decide; who would be the hardest to take down? He walked up to, the guy who had a reverse grip on his Kendo rod, he looked like he could be a challenge. He then spoke in his normal tone to him, "You heard the Sensei, we have to get in another match."
He saw the boy nod, as he walked to his starting point, as the same was for Ryunosuke. Since Ryunosuke challenged him, he was going to go first. But what to do? Be predictable, and just charge? No, something different was going to be needed, particularly in his sword-arm was his left. That mean that it would be harder to connect blades and parry, though easier to hit each other. Ryunosuke, came up with a plan. The plan was, that he was to dart from left to right to center, often changing the pattern to get rid of the predictability. The attack plan was to connect a blow to his side, or his sword-arm's knuckles, then he could connect his abdomen with his knee, much like in his last match with Katarina. At that point, it would be over. Though a plan B was needed. If he dodged in any way, he would attempt to quickly turn on his heel and slash. Now was the time to begin. He started off slowly, then got slightly faster. He then got into a random movement pattern. Then, he attempted to land a blow to his side. If it connected, then it could cause pain, and cost the duel.

With the ribbon probably tucked somewhere in his belongings or on his person, Ryunosuke set out towards the opponent of his choice. The boy who held his Kendo rod backwards had peaked the curiosity of the other student and now they were about to go toe to toe in what was probably going to be the last spar of the session. They both made their way to the center of the room, the other boy not saying a word, but rather waiting on Ryunosuke to make a move first. In the previous spar, Katarina had acted first and Ryunosuke had reacted to her assault, so this spar would, at least at first, test how capable he was making his own attacks. Neither boy looked very special, but as Ryunosuke had proven, how one looks on the outside is not completely indicative of their strength.
Ryunosuke advanced, strafing from side to side in an attempt to throw off his opponent, seem random and unpredictable. Katarina had failed in that regard, and had been too predictable in order to be dangerous. The other student just stood there with his knees slightly bent, his head looking forward, and his Kendo rod held horizontally and in front of him. When Ryunosuke got close enough to attack, he swung his rod to attempt to hit his opponent's side or knuckles, because the student hadn't dodged. Wood met wood as Ryunosuke's Kendo rod was knocked aside, then flesh met flesh as the student cushioned Ryunosuke's knee with his other arm and pushed it back to the ground. Physically, the boy was only barely stronger and faster than Ryunosuke, so it wouldn't be initially obvious how he had accomplished this so effortlessly.
As Ryunosuke continued to move around and attack at the boy, he'd find every one of his attacks stopped and redirected with little to no effort at all. The other student was easily keeping track of Ryunosuke's movements and not necessarily knowing where he'd be, but reacting to them even though they tried to be random. The last slash that was directed at the boy's side was not blocked and pushed away like before, but instead was blocked and just enough pressure was applied to hold it where it was. It seemed like the boy wanted to say something before continuing, so he forced a slight pause in the spar where they'd be focused on not losing control of their rods. "The name's Shou. Shou Hideaki. And yours?" Whether or not Ryunosuke responded, Shou eventually pushed off with his feet and his Kendo rod, gaining a little distance between the two of them. It was a friendly spar, so there was absolutely no trickery to be had in asking his opponent's name. Shou simply wanted to know who it was that he had the pleasure of matching in a battle of blade and wit.

Ryunosuke was surprised with his sparring partner's skill. Every blow; deflected. And so effortlessly too. More planning was going to be needed. He couldn't be predictable. That'd just make him lose outright. Though being unpredictable wasn't working. The guy had a few advantages over him, and those advantages would count. As he aimed for the last blow, his opponent caught it, yet again. The guy was far more experienced than Katarina, and would be more fun to spar against. A slight pause was added. No more tension, nor strength was added either side of the confrontation. The boy then spoke, "The name's Shou. Shou Hideaki. And yours?" This was followed off with a quick, but slight, movement backwards. Nothing was stopping him from answering him. No tricks could be used in this little spar. It was merely a friendly fight between two students. What harm could come of it?
"So sorry. I was very rude to challenge you, yet not give out my name," replied Ryunosuke. "Ryunosuke Kinuatemi is the name that belongs to me. A pleasure to meet you." he replied again, fully answering his question. Now, a plan was needing to be made. Shou was smart, no doubt. Something unorthodox was going to be needed against him for victory to occur. There was no point charging in. A calm, cool mind was going to be needed for success, even though there was nothing to rage about. Strafing didn't work that well. Jumping around wouldn't make much good; a well placed strike, originating from below could knock him down. Perhaps guerrilla attack would be in order.
He started slower than last time. Merely a walking pace. A attempt to see his striking range was in order, as well as a rough reaction time. All the factors and variables would have to be in order, for any sort of victory for him to occur. He then laid out a few quick strikes, each quicker than the last. All flowing from one to another; a small part of his skill with the sword. He then quickly took a small leap backwards, then quickly went back in. Attacking with no set pattern, then retreated again from his range. A small second test to see how he reacted against randomized attacks. Then another one to to try to find a blind spot to his defensive range. Attacking in circles, with small, rapid attacks, flowing from one to the other in quick succession. After that, he would then retreat back a bit, and wait for Shou's next move. What would it be?

With the introductions settled, Shou simply nodded and returned to his defensive stance. With that, Ryunosuke started to advance, slowly and not so abrupt this time as it hadn't worked before. There was no flashy dodging around, just pure and simple brute force and skill. Again and again Ryunosuke struck out at Shou, but the slightly faster student and much better reaction times got the upper hand at the current moment. Ryunosuke took a jump backwards and then rushed back into the fray, trying to attack randomly. "There is no true random. Where you think you are trying to attack without a pattern, there is always a pattern, and I see your patterns every time. You can't match me like that."
With all of Ryunosuke's attacks blocked with the superiority of mental speed combined with the linear nature of his strikes, maybe the student would start to feel discouraged. Maybe Shou's words would have an effect on him, maybe not, but whatever the effect it was, Shou was getting ready to attack this time. His long hair whipping up, he spun around on his heel with his Kendo rod hurtled straight at Ryunosuke. It wasn't a complicated attack, it seemed, but what was different about it was, if Ryunosuke blocked it, the backwards grip of Shou would slacken to cause the block to be ineffective. Ryunosuke would have no way of knowing this, but if he raised his blade to parry or block, then Shou would let his blade slide past his opponents to continue to travel straight at his head. Ryunosuke could do a number of things, but blocking seemed like the most obvious and he would most likely take that route if he didn't act before the attack.

Ryunosuke's seemingly random movements had no effect, yet again. "There is no true random. Where you think you are trying to attack without a pattern, there is always a pattern, and I see your patterns every time. You can't match me like that." That was Shou's answer. It was blunt, to be sure. What option did he have left?
Honestly, Ryunosuke pondered this. However, no matter how blunt he was, there is always a chance of victory. Sure, he may be able to think a lot faster than him, and react faster, though there are always other options. There was no point in trying to do anything, however, the session wasn't going to end until he'd finished. Though he loved the challenge. The guy was superior in nearly every way he would think. However, if he wanted to think, he'd have to retreat be a bit.
He quickly jumped back. However, Shou had already started to swing his rod at him. Due to Shou's speed, it clipped the edge of the kendo rod. Not enough to dis-arm, or cause damage, but enough to make the rod shake in his hands. He had to think, what could he exploit? Range was a pitiful advantage, there was nothing too great about that. A extra inch on his blade would do nothing.
What else could he exploit? Perhaps strike in the middle of either one of them was talking? That'd be rather dirty, and it probably wouldn't work. Perhaps push him to the edge of the dueling ring? No, that wouldn't really be a win either? Pull on his hair? That thing is like a damn cape. No, it's probably not allow. Kneeing Katarina was probably going a bit too far.
Wait a second. Why was he trying to be random? That isn't a major factor in his style. That wasn't his style. It didn't work, so what's the point? He should just fight how he fights, not try to look random. Okay. First off. Look for imperfections. Shou's had a few knots in the wood, nothing too much. There was a slight bend in the top of his rod too, nothing too special, though the length has been changed a small amount.
His own was in a similar position. Nothing too special. Now, he had to watch Shou's muscle movements in his arms. He had to try to find the moment when they were at their weakest; that was the key. That was all there was to it, without trying to perform anything yet. Now, for the approach. He ran at jogging pace. He swung his sword, and aimed it at Shou. However, unlike his previous swings, he took all the force out of it, by applying the necessary amount of force required. This would be helpful when he tried to block. He would follow this, be it random or not. He then, with all the experience he had, used multiple flicks of the wrist all over Shou's body, in 'random' places, though more-often-than-not, into places that affected his ability to perform in the duel. He wasn't going to lose to guy with 'cape-hair.'
