Why Rio would have ended up in the Sahara Desert is anyone's guess. Maybe he just needed some air, and since all of Hueco Mundo was under Sonken Kouhai's control, Rio hated the entire damn place now. Fuckin' shinigami... they had no right to rule over Hollow-kind. Especially not the Arrancar! And ESPECIALLY not Vastolorde like himself! Pretentious prick. How guys like Kuroi could stand being ruled by the guy was anyone's guess. Then again, if Kuroi was allowing guys like Cierro and Magnus into the Espada, maybe there really wasn't something right with the guys head. Sure he was strong, and Rio respected him for that, but with Kuroi's strength he could have annihilated them, and left the spots open for more worthy arrancar.
Hell, fuckin' MIHO had put up a better fight against Rio than Magnus had, and Cierro had disgusted the Espada. Seriously, there was something wrong with the Espada if a fuckin' Fraccion could outfight them! Ugh. Thankfully Magnus had disappeared. Rio would have hunted down Cierro and killed the bastard if he wasn't so damn quick at running away. And could shapeshift. Those two qualities made him an absolute bitch to track down. Whatever. Someone would kill him eventually. Hell, maybe even that little minx Asuka. Rio would have to fight her someday too, though, being the Noveno, she did not interest him as much. Oh yeah. And then there was that disgrace of a Tercera, Yuki who had emerged from the woodwork. What was up with that?
Oh well. Something was coming. Rio could hear it. He could smell it. Someone was on their way. Getting up from the oasis, Rio cracked his neck, looking out in the direction of the sound. "Finally. Some damn entertainment." He stated.
The Sahara Desert. With its heat, its isolation, and its complete and utter vastness, it was the perfect place to just ... unwind. Particularly at a beautiful miracle of nature like an Oasis. Kubi Tsure, the newly appointed Squad 13 Captain, sat cross-legged in a grove of trees, his shortened and sleeveless captains haori and shihakusho ruffled, as if from a fight. His legs were crossed, as were his arms. His long brown hair was over his lidded eyes, his breathing even. In short, he was meditating. For several minutes, he sat like that, basking in the reflected glory of nature. Suddenly, a noise alerted and his eyes shot open, surprisingly dark and deep, and full of an intelligence that was surprising. However, they were full of a pain and hurt so deep, it was painful just looking at them. He casually stood up, his hands gently sliding into his pockets. He wasn't moving with any energy, rather acting like he was just getting up to go home, and not to encounter a powerful being. As he stood up, his reaitsu flooded the oasis. Even to someone like Rio, who's energy sensory was, quite plainly, terrible, it would seem as if a demon was forcing its hands down on the Oasis.
Casually, Kubi's eyes scanned the area, alighting upon Rio. He slowly took in his appearance, his musculature, and his demeanor. He then let out a small gust of air; not quite a sigh, but not a sign of pleasure, either. His hand still in the pockets of his shihakusho, he stood facing Rio, standing in a nonthreatening position. His entire demeanor was relaxed, as if he was not threatened by Rio ... which, I guess he wasn't. His eyes stared at Rio, not a challenging glare, but rather one of inquiry.

A mere glance at Rio would not inform Kubi of Rio's strengths and weaknesses. Indeed, he actually had a moderately slim build, that would suggest some form of agility based fighting. Certainly not up front brawling. The twin Sai at his side would also suggest this. Anyone unfamiliar with the weapon would likely assume that, from their shape they would be used similarly to daggers, and the fact that Rio's did have sharpened tips was to help create this understanding. At a glance, one might think Rio's style would be one of elegance, avoiding an opponent's blows, and thrusting his Sai into strategic points on an opponent.
Couldn't be further from the truth. Rio liked brutal up front and personal fights, using his shockwaves to gain ground on his opponent. He wasn't the fastest, nor the strongest (though his strength was still his pride), but his shockwaves made him a formidable adversary in close quarters. Seeing a shinigami was enough to get Rio's blood boiling, especially in the heat of the sun. Slipping one of the Sai from its sheath, Rio began to advance towards Kubi. A shinigami out here? Hell, maybe he could blow off some steam.
The Espada didn't bother to waste time bandying words. His killing intent could be felt a mile away. Then the Espada took a hard step forwards, flinging up his arms as he leapt into the air, above Kreiger's head, apparently intending to come down on the shinigami from above. But that was only half the plan. By flinging up his arms he had launched two forceful shockwaves through the air, each roughly the size of a basketball. To Kreiger, however, they would be completely invisible, as though Rio had simply used them to gain some air on his jump. As such, Rio expected the two shockwaves to catch him off guard, slamming into the shinigami's chest with enough force that a normal man would have broken every single rib. And the shockwaves were fast too. As quick as a Bala, in fact.
Above Kubi however, Rio appeared to have gotten a pretty good jump above him, leaping right in line with the sun, so that if the shinigami tried to look up at Rio (which he would have to, as his senses were likely not quite good enough to hear him), he'd be somewhat blinded by the glare, as Rio came down at him, Sai in hand, ready to strike the first bone crushing blow of the battle. Rio's trajectory appeared to be landing behind Kubi. If Kubi could make him out at all, despite the glare, he might assume that Rio was trying to get behind him. Actually, Rio was trying to land in front of him, and was merely calculating how far back he expected his shockwaves to smash Kubi. Well, actually, he expected them to blast him farther back than that, but Rio knew not to underestimate his opponents. If he got blasted half as far as Rio was expecting him to be blasted, he would need Sonido to close the distance fast enough to attack.
The killing intent of the Espada - for, indeed, reaitsu that felt that dangerous and powerful could only be from an Espada - was immense. Even to someone like Kubi, who's very presence made weaker beings quell in fear, it was disturbing. With an aura like this, it was obvious they lived for death, destruction, and wonton violence, reveling in the pain and the suffering they caused, disrupting the balance of the world. Kubi would end him, for he was a being of balance, as centuries of experience, of living in the harshest places the Seiretei have to offer, would attest to. However, unlike what Rio would think, Kubi doesn't determine an enemies fighting style simply by there body structure. Being spiritual being, the youngest-looking opponent can have the physical strength to match a giant, or the speed of a flying star. However, not even Kubi would be able to predict the sudden unsheathing of the sai, nor the almost invisibly fast movement as Rio jumped over his head.
Kubi didn't know where he went, or how he got there. So, he relied not on blocking, but on evading; a simple shunpo, executed with alarming speed and with only a slight indication of movement, nothing more than a twitch of his foot. He appeared ten feet to the left, standing by the pool of water. His eyes did not widen, nor did they show; instead, he made one simple movement; he lifted his right hand out of his pocket and held it by his side, clenched in his fist. With a slight inclination of the head, he motioned for Rio to continue.

(ooc: Don't forget to track your SP)
From the instant Rio's feet touched the sands, he was suddenly gone again, this time opting for a far more direct means of closing the distance. A straightforward charge at Kubi. This would appear to be a huge opening to Kubi, but could it be so obvious? Sure, he had no clue who Rio was, or what he was capable of. Since he'd dodged the shockwave unconsciously, he would never have come to the realization that Rio could use them. This was Rio's advantage. Neither fighter had any clue of the other's capabilities, but Rio had a number of tricks he could utilize even in his sealed state! But Kubi didn't know that.
Rio pushed straight at his target, the desert sands hurling up around him from his speed. Just before he reached Kubi's effective range, however, he slammed his foot down as a hard brake, the impact and his prior trajectory hurling up a wall of sand in the shinigami's face, to blind Kubi. In his free hand, Rio began charging a Cero, using his animalistic senses to keep track of Kubi's movement. Then, in a flash, Rio's arm lashed forwards, blasting the Cero through his veil of sand at where his senses perceived the shinigami to be. His sand wall hadn't been to blind Kubi-- though that indeed would be a benefit to the Espada. It was to hide the act of his charging of his Cero, giving Kubi no time to avoid the colossal green blast. With a reiatsu strength of 400, Rio was able to produce a Cero of such size that at this range, nothing short of a Shunpo would get Kubi out of the way in time. And that was IF he saw it charging. By the time Kubi would see it through the sand veil it would be too late.
