Ranmyaku simply stood and observed his bankai swallow the arrancar’s attack. That would come in handy later, but the actual absorbing process caused blood to erupt from the worm’s mouth. The insides of the worm’s mouth were torn up as the football entered its mouth, but the outside remained unharmed. It was a small cost in the grand scheme of things since Ranmyaku didn’t actually feel anything that his zanpakutou did. He was burned practically beyond usefulness and more injuries would certainly not bode well for him. The lizard’s bankai was powerful though. It may have been a tad scarred, but its mouth was designed to absorb fearsome attacks such as gran rey cero and kidou spells of any level. It could certainly continue operating at full capacity under the circumstances. The worm felt no pain for it was simply a sword. A mindless thing to be used however its master saw fit.
Ranmyaku watched as he controlled his other worms that were currently engaging the arrancar who was left undamaged from the missiles and the Treinta. A calm, calculating expression was all that graced the shinigami’s face as he watched the giant worm be halted by a burst of air that was greater than Rio’s. It looked like he had successfully defended Rin from the incoming threat and immediately prepared a follow-up attack. The worm that had been waiting to swallow the missiles, had they missed, dove back underground along with the one that had swallowed the football as Yamato charged Rio. Ranmyaku was left with three worms above ground. Two were near him and the other was the one that had been hit with the shockwave.
Before Yamato reached Rio the sixth worm that had been staying below ground burst out of the earth between the two arrancar. It was impossible for Yamato to identify this as a sixth worm since it looked like all the others, and since two other worms retreated below ground he would most likely assume this was one of those worms. Just like last time the worm charged straight ahead at the charging arrancar. Its mouth was wide open and Ranmyaku was ready to adjust its position depending on whether Yamato tried to veer to the side or not. It was almost an exact repeat of what he did last time with one main difference. One of the two worms that had just retreated underground had tunneled directly under the charging arrancar. The shinigami didn’t gauge Yamato to be the most skilled at battle tactics, so he figured he’d most likely do the same thing a second time since it worked the first time.
As soon as Yamato showed any pause or attempt at dodging the charging worm, the second worm burst out of the ground from directly underneath him hoping to swallow him whole. The charging worm served the purpose of defending Rio and distracting Yamato to the true danger below him. Surely Yamato’s football obsessed personality relished the thought of his enemy charging directly at him. Hopefully he wouldn’t expect an indirect sneak-attack from below.
