W A K E U P Voices echoed inside of Zauberin’s mind like an angry and impatient conglomeration. The souls that made up her being grew restless. She had been dormant for too long and her hunger began to cloud her mind. She blinked several times, trying to acclimate to the low levels of light inside of the Menos Forest. Her eyes trailed slowly from tree to tree as she tried to reorient herself. She was tucked away inside of a bundle of trees - as though she had fallen asleep here some long time ago. She reached forwards, bony fingers pushing against the trees themselves and causing them to shift slightly, though her meager strength did little to get them out of her way. She continued to push against them in an exercise of futility, grumbling to herself.
ᛗᚨᚲᛖ. Her voice emanated from behind her mask as she called out the name of ancient runes in an old, forgotten language. It was distorted, hoarse, and it sounded very far away. She was struggling to hear herself amidst the rumble of souls that simmered underneath her will, but she would not succumb to their pathetic attempts to usurp her. Not now. She dragged her finger across the air in front of her, carving runes into the air in front of her. Her reiatsu built around them, forming a swirling orb of chaotic violet energy which glimmered and shook with volatile energy.
She sunk her fingers into the orb, which seemed to twist and contort around them as though bending to her will. She reared her arm backwards and then thrust it forwards, lobbing the orb at the nearest tree in front of her. Upon impact with the tree, the orb exploded outwards, carving a path approximately twenty feet in either direction as shards of wood and debris were sent flying forwards. The remainder of the tree groaned, creaked and then fell forwards. She stepped carefully over it and examined her surroundings. E A T.
Zauberin growled low, as though in response to the flood of sounds coming from deep inside of her being. Before she could try and formulate a thought to counteract them, her eyes snapped to a flicker of movement from the corner of her eye. From behind some shrubbery, it seemed that several smaller hollow had gathered in the distance. Likely, her awakening had drawn them to her. Unfortunately for them, she wasn’t about to let a free meal go, even if they were only going to suffice as a snack. The mouth of her mask cracked open, freeing a mouth full of sharpened teeth. Red reiatsu swirled inwards towards her mask, forming a flattened disc before Zauberin fired two bala into the trees. The first missed its mark, however the second was met with a resounding howl.
Zauberin followed the injured shouts and growls, reaching her hand up and into the air before stabbing it down and into the mortally wounded hollow in question. Its screams and futile resistance echoed throughout the Forest of Menos as she consumed it. After several long minutes following her meal, her thoughts were finally hers again. Unfortunately, she was still hungry. Her long-ignored hunger would not be satiated with mere fodderlings like this poor excuse for a snack. She would need to find more substantial prey for herself. She would need to find other menos. Fortunately, here in the forest, there was an abundance of menos available for hunting. She was confident that her abilities would far surpass her peers, especially that of other Gillian. Her eyes scanned the darkness of the forest as her feet carried her forwards. Her figure lumbered in and out of the trees and came to a stop only when she heard the familiar roar of another menos gillian in the distance. It calls, and they will answer. It will be consumed like the rest, until the hunger inside of me is satiated.1
