Hell Ranks
Born from the Remnants of the Former Envainar base. The Sanctus was born to give a sense of order and power to those who are free from their chains. The Kings and Queens of Hell who rule over each layer pull in Sinners who want to not be tortured anymore in return for their absolute loyalty. As such they are the enforcers of Hell's power, as well as Lucifer's personal army. Each Legatus has a given task that is made upon character creation / Character acceptance into The Sanctus. This task benefits Hell, but is largely up to the player to choose. Any of the four hell races are capable of joining The Sanctus. Saika, Hason’s, Akki’s are all capable of reaching Legatus Rank. Nakkabaki are capable of becoming Legatus Rank once they turn into full blooded Akki’s.
Also known as the "Legions of Hell", the Sanctus act as Lucifer's personal army, and while they are largely autonomous (save the rare times Lucifer directly issues an order to his subordinates), their actions should always further the interests of Lucifer, and Hell itself. The Sanctus is divided into eight legions, each governed by a Legatus, and their Dominus. Beneath these two, each Legion is filled with a multitude of Eques (Knights), and Servus (Servants), who act according to the mandates of their respective Legatus.
Members of the Sanctus are no longer tortured by the denizens of Hell, so long as they remain members in good standing. As agents of the Legions of Hell, the Sanctus are free to leave Hell at any time of their choosing, under the assumption that their actions have the blessing of Lucifer himself. Should a Sanctus member abuse this privilege however, they may be found wanting, and lose all benefits of their rank and privilege. Such is the temptation of Lucifer's gift. Saika are still bound by their "Out of Hell" limits, however they no longer need to seek out methods of escaping Hell.
Each Legatus has a given task that is made upon character creation / Character acceptance into The Sanctus. This task benefits Hell, but is largely up to the player to choose. While each legion is numbered, they are all considered equal in rank, with no single legion (with the possible exception of the Primus Legion) being granted any special hierarchy over the others. Should Lucifer choose to command a legion directly on a given task (either in person, or by issuing an order directly to that legion's Legatus), that Legion becomes the Supreme Legion for the duration of the assignment. Otherwise, each Legatus is equal in rank, and has no authority over the others. Only Lucifer and his 4 Hell Beasts hold superior rank to any Legatus.
Nakabakki may join the Sanctus by swearing fealty to Lucifer. Doing so severs all ties to their former organization (if any), including access to organization specific techniques (such as Squad or Noble Techniques for Naka-Shinigami, or Vandenreich-specific Quincy techniques). Sanctus Nakabakki retain their racial release techniques, and access to techniques not specific to their organization (such as Quincy techniques available to all Quincy). Sanctus Nakabakki instead gain access to the numerous Hell Magic techniques available to members of all other Hellion Races. Nakabakki cannot use Hell Magic techniques without joining the Sanctus however. The maximum rank that a Nakabakki can obtain in the Sanctus is Dominus. To advance to Legatus, a Nakabakki must purge themselves of their non-Akki traits, and transform into a pure Akki.
Saika who join the Sanctus are given full leave to exit hell in pursuit of their duties. While this does not increase the duration they may remain outside hell, Saika who join the Sanctus are protected by the Legion Mark seared into their flesh upon joining the Sanctus. Mechanically, this mark functions as if the Saika was permanently protected by a Cloak and Mask, without the need of using such fragile devices in order to shield oneself from the prying eyes of hell. Saika are still kept on a short leash however, and still have a maximum duration they may remain outside Hell before they must return, however Sanctus Saika are under no risk of being returned prematurely as a result of damage to their cloak/mask.
Membership in the Sanctus is eternal. Should someone betray the Sanctus, their very next thread must be a DE PvP thread in which the traitor must face off against a Sanctus member of higher Sanctus rank and class (or failing that, two Sanctus of the same Sanctus Rank). Failure results in the traitor being cast back into hell in which they are tortured for eternity at the claws of one of Lucifer's Hell Beasts. This thread is only Death-enabled for the rogue Hellion, and is considered a DP thread for all other participants.
Success results in the character receiving a permanent bounty against them in the amount of 5,000 Ryo (for Class 8-5 traitors), 15,000 Ryo (for Class 4-3 traitors), 30,000 Ryo for Class 2+ traitors (this bounty rises as the character advances in class). The bounty on Dominus who dare betray the Sanctus is 50,000 Ryo, while the bounty on any Legatus who dares betray the Sanctus is 100,000 Ryo. Bounty is payable upon the rogue Hellion being returned to Hell dead or alive (at which point they suffer the same eternal damnation as described above).
Consulari Legion (Consular): Recruitment / Corrupting Mortals / Administration
The Consular Legion's role involves day to day administration of Hell, the recruitment of new Sanctus Members, and the corruption of mortals. Their administrative duties rarely leave the Legatus time to leave hell, but from time to time they may take a personal interest in corrupting a highly prized soul, or other task that may have them delegate daily administration to their Dominus.
Outside of administration, this legion concerns itself primarily with the corruption of mortals. As not every soul is marked by Hell to join them, sometimes you need to convince the brighter souls to become darkened. This legion's goal is to trick, force, and take whatever steps necessary to convince beings to sell their soul and become a sinner. While Faustian bargains are largely the purview of the Crossroads legion, the Consular Legion is not above using such tactics if necessary to make certain that a particularly valuable soul is damned for an eternity in hell.
Praeventori Legion (Vanguard): Combat / Hell Beasts / Defense
Even hell has a place for those who are more useful as front-line fighters. In addition to rank and file soldiers, this legion is tasked with the taming of lesser hell-beasts for use in both combat and defense. This legion works closely with the Crossroads legion when it comes to the use of powerful magics that are frequently necessary in order to subdue, and bind the will of the hell beasts under their command. While most members of this legion usually focus on either combat or beast-taming, the duties of the Legatus require them to be capable in both, or at the very least - be able to delegate tasks outside their expertise to a Dominus specializing in the other focus.
The combat expertise of this legion also makes them the first line of defense against any would-be invaders foolish enough to assault Hell itself, and while it is inconceivable for anyone to succeed at such a task, defending the strategic points of Hell serves as a distraction for these otherwise violent sinners.
Custos Legion (Wardens): Hell Enforcement / Torture / Forging
The Wardens of Hell are tasked with the torture and imprisonment of damned souls. Acting as both jailer, and torturer - it is their job to ensure that the vile, depraved souls of hell are punished creatively for their sins, while also preventing them from escaping their bonds and fleeing their torture. It is also their responsibility to prevent the multitude of violent, murderous souls from massacring each other.
This legion is frequently made up of Sinners who realized their mistakes and want to earn their freedom/humanity. Hoping that by keeping others from killing each other, that they might repent of their sins. At the opposite extreme, this Legion is equally made up of the most vile and sadistic sociopaths, who revel in the torture of others.
Finally, this Legion is granted command of Hell's Eternal Forges. This is in part to allow them to easily forge the multitude of torture devices with which to mutilate their charges, but also to equip the legions of hell with the arsenal of weapons, armor, and siege engines in preparation for the final battle.
Compitus Legion (Crossroads): Infernal Pacts / Magick / Faustian Deals
The Crossroads Legion is the legion most frequently employed into the World of the Living, as it is their task to answer the pleas of wicked souls, and grant them their blackened hearts desires. When a mortal calls upon the agents of hell to grant them power, it is the Crossroads Legion which answers the call. Members of this legion are masters of the darkest of magicks, and delve into the study of the most ancient, eldritch, and forbidden corners of the arcane world. This Legion attracts the most power-hungry, and cunning of all Sinners, making them highly dangerous foes who should never be underestimated.
While left largely to their own devices, in battle the Crossroads Legion unleashes magical fury upon their enemies, and is tasked with counteracting the various spiritual powers of the Shinigami, Quincy, and other Spiritual entities. Members of this Legion are also tasked with the acquisition of enemy magics, and to scour the multiverse looking for powerful artifacts, spells, and other mystical energies that they can harness, corrupt, and ultimately bind to the will of Hell.Sanctus Ranks
- The Legatus - You must be at least Class 1. Legatus are the Elite Overlords of hell, all specifically chosen by Lucifer or those who forced their way to the top. The Legatus are a special group that answer to Lucifer directly, their orders or tasks taking up most of their time. The Legatus rarely leave Hell or are rarely discovered outside of it. The Legatus are as powerful as high tier Espada, High Tier Captains, and Sternritter. Only Akki, Hason, and Saika may hold the position of Legatus. Sanctus aligned Nakabakki may only obtain Legatus rank by purging themselves of their non-Akki traits and transforming into a pure Akki. Additionally, the Legatus gain an additional 200 SP.
- The Dominus - You must be at least Class 2. Dominus are the Lords of Hell that serve under the Legatus. These Lords are the ones in charge of managing combat plans and aiding their Legatus in their tasks. A Dominus whose Legatus’ task is to cultivate sinners, would go out and search for sinners that have yet to break their chains as an example. Otherwise they are in charge of managing and ordering the Eques and Servus. If a Dominus is not pleased with their Legatus, they can attempt to overthrow them and become the new Legatus. The Dominus’s are as powerful as Espada & Captains.
- The Eques - You must be at least Class 4. Eques are the Knights of Hell. These beings serve under the Dominus’s and Legatus, often taking orders from just the Dominus’s. However, they are requested at times to serve the Legatus directly. The Knights are also in charge of observation and tracking of Nakkabaki that have yet to join them. Often they will be deployed into the mortal world to aid in the capture of escaped sinners. The Eques are as powerful as Third seat officers up to Vice Captains.
- The Servus - Servus are often the new recruits, weak and vulnerable. These work under the Eques in hopes of gaining power to become stronger. Yet those in the Servus who show themselves to be powerful enough can become a Eques. Often if the Servus aren’t taken for a combative roll, they are also the personal attendants and assistants to The Dominus members. For the Servus they have already reached rock bottom, it’s only up from there on. Servus members are the weakest, with them at the strongest being comparable to unseated officers.
