Physical Appearance:What happens when you take an above average looking man and not put any amount of effort into your physical health besides the bare minimum and not eating like you wanna be on My 600lb Life? You get Saito Haruka. Middle aged and aging like fine wine, there is absolutely nothing that really stands out about how Saito looks. He is as plain as you can get. The man is easily a five out of ten on a good day. Saito is a natural born Japanese man who wound up falling into the consumerist lifestyle that so many others fall into. Blessed with being tall, taller than his average peers, Saito could have looked amazing had he taken better care of himself. Standing six foot two and weighing in at two hundred pounds, Saito could look a lot better than he does.
Like it was stated, the man is decently tall with good body stature. He doesn’t have a slumped back by any means. He has messy, spikey, black hair that he desperately prays lasts him his entire life. Saito has rather thin eyebrows with small parts of them sprouting outwards, making it look as though he has two sets of eyebrows coming together to become one. Saito has large, green, colored eyes with small pupils. Again, there isn’t really anything that stands out about his appearance. He’s very plain. Saito has a rather heavy set face due to being overweight. He keeps a well trimmed mild goatee. Facial hair isn’t very common in Japan, but Saito has always enjoyed having some. Saito is almost always seen with a very jovial expression on his face and has one hell of a goofy smile.
Thanks to his job, Saito has a muscular frame despite possessing a fairly chubby beer belly. He has the body type of a working man, or a dad bod as the kids say, thanks to working in the manual labor field for a few years and still keeping up with doing physical tasks. He has rather wide set shoulders and a fairly broad chest. Honest to god if he just put down the beer and started lifting weights he would look so much better. Like it was stated early, Saito is rather tall. He has a slighter darker skin tone than the average Japanese citizen, probably due to being outside way more thanks to work. Or it’s natural. Saito has a birthmark shaped like a foot on the back of his left shoulder.
Apparel-wise, there’s not much to say. When Saito dresses casually he’s usually wearing simple oversized t-shirts with some anime or video game on it. Black or gray sweatpants along with sandals with socks. He’ll often wear sweatshirts when he has to go out or light jackets. When he needs to go out though Saito will usually wear cargo pants with a green jacket so long as it’s not too hot. He’s also a ballcap fan. Besides that though, there isn’t much else to say. He’ll wear his work uniforms when he’s on the job and his closet isn’t very full of interesting things. He stays inside for the most part when he’s not at work, enjoying his shows or games so why bother buying a bunch of different clothes?↓ PERSONALITY ↓
Alignment: Rebel Good
Likes:
✓ Watching TV - Movies, binging tv shows, watching anime. When Saito gets done after a long day at work and doesn't have the energy to commit to a video game or his friends are offline, he'll kick back on the futon with a cold one and check out what's on.
✓ Baseball - His first, or second, favorite sport! Saito always looks forward to February through October because that's when baseball season starts. He loves getting together with his friends in person or over the computer and watching the games together.
✓ Beer - Saito is a pretty heavy drinker, for good or for worse. His favorite beer is Coala. While Saito will often complain about how much money he spends on alcohol every week, and talks about quitting just as often, he always winds up buying some for Friday and Saturday nights. He just enjoys getting drunk and acting like a clown. Helps take the stress of life away.
✓ Snacking - One of Saito's favorite hobbies is kicking back and reading manga while snacking on chips or pretzels. This does not help with his weight at all. BUT! It's one of his favorite hobbies. Saito personally loves pretzels because you get more bang for your buck. They put more pretzels in the bag after all. But he does love chips. Especially barbeque and sour cream and onion.
✓ Reading Manga - See the above like. Saito loves reading manga. From shonen, to seinen, he'll excitedly read manga online first and then support the artist by buying the volumes if he really liked what he read.
✓ Gaming - He's a gamer at heart. Saito grew up playing video games and this hobby of his has persisted well into his adulthood. While his tastes have changed as he's gotten older, switching to a preference for shorter games or multiplayer titles with friends, he still gets excited whenever he gets to talk about games he likes.
✓ Going for walks - The best way to clear his mind of any anxieties that are eating away at him, and maintain his health! Saito likes going for long walks. He prefers walking to and from work instead of taking the train. On the weekends he'll go to the nearby parks and walking trails and stretch his legs for five or so miles.
✓ Napping - It's not that he's old, Saito just gets tired sometimes. He sometimes he just needs a nap on his lunch break, or at midday, or if he is really tired after getting home from work.
✓ Socializing - Saito loves talking to people. He can yap about stupid shit all day. He loves after work get togethers. Drinks and dinner with the coworkers. Or getting online with his buddies and talking about moves, tv shows, anime or games. He's a very social animal.
✓ Sumo Wrestling - His second, or first, favorite sport! Saito is so amazed and impressed by the athleticism, strength, and character of sumo wrestlers. He gets so excited watching them wrestle.
✓ Superheroes - Saito's always had an admiration for superheroes, especially ones like Superman. The idea of people who will put aside their everything for the sake of other people is amazing to him. It's not the super powers he's amazed by, it's the quality of their character. Saito has a lot of respect for police officers, firemen, and ambulance drivers because of that. They put their lives on the line to save other people.
✓ Cooking - Saito likes eating but doesn't always like eating the same thing. So, well, since he's unmarried he decided to start learning how to cook other things. He particularly likes curry and other spicey dishes. He always tries to make a meat dish, a vegetable dish and some rice alongside it.
✓ Family Guy - Probably the funniest show he has ever seen. He loves how you can just pick a random point in any episode and the most insane stuff will be happening. While some seasons have been stinkers, Saito loves getting some beer and just laughing at the Griffin families shenanigans.
✓ Collecting Models - Saito has a very expensive hobby. Collecting and assembling Zoids, Gundams, and other mechas. While most people love Gundams, and Gundams are cool, Saito has always been a much bigger fan of the animal machines. Berserk Fury, Liger Zero, Shield Liger, Gojulas, they're all so cool.
✓ Ramen - What Japanese man doesn't like noodles? Saito much prefers getting it from restaurants rather than throwing a pot on the stove with some instant noods. Not that he won't just do that, of course, but he much prefers it when he can get a complete bowl. Egg, meat, seaweed, bean sprouts. Delicious.
Dislikes:
✕ Smoking - Expensive, gross, and something that Saito needs to stop doing. Only reason he got started was because he thought it would be cool and that it's a social hobby.
✕ Getting Up - Ugh. Monday again Johnny boy. Saito hates having to get up. It's just so hard. Waking up stings at his eyes, the grogginess he feels in the morning, the frustration he feels for the alarm clock. Ugh.
✕ Going to the Gym - Despite Saito constantly talking about getting back on the horse and losing weight, god damn does he hate going to the gym. Too many people. Not enough time in the day. Progress is so slow. Eh, he'll start tomorrow.
✕ His knees - If Saito crouches for too long god knows he's gonna feel it in his eyes. He's not getting older or anything it's just bad genetics.
✕ Weight - Yeah this is a sore spot for him. While Saito carries himself with a positive personality he'd be lying if he said looking at his beer belly didn't disappoint him. Saito really doesn't like how overweight he is, often looking at his gut and grabbing his handlebars. He constantly talks about doing something about it, but never fully commits for long enough to actually achieve anything. He knows what he needs to do to lose weight and what he needs to cut out of his life, but just can't ever do it.
✕ Checking his phone - Screen and swiping obsessed. Saito wishes he didn't have to use the phone all the time. Texting, calling, checking emails, messaging. It's too much. That and the monthly plans. Too much money.
✕ Chores - Adulting blows. Being responsible sucks. Whenever Saito just really wants to be lazy seems to be when he has the most stuff he has to do.
✕ Paying Rent - Always great when the majority of one of your paychecks is just sucked out of your bank account so that you can afford where you live. Saito has a pretty nice apartment, by his standards, so thankfully it's pretty cheap but either way.
✕ Bad Sleep - Ugh it sucks. Waking up throughout the night. Tossing and turning. Bad dreams about ghosts that wake you up and make you unable to get back to sleep.
✕ MMO's - Actual scams. All they do is put you in a rat race that you're never actually gonna be able to "beat". Their gameplay loop sucks, they cost you money every month, and they just seem to get worse every expansion.
✕ Age - Getting older really sucks. You wind up thinking about the past way more than looking forward to the future. "Did I waste my life" is something that Saito asks himself on a far too frequent basis. Life is a series of decisions and living with the regrets of those decisions, but man does Saito feel like he's running out of time about something.
✕ His Last Name - IT'S NOT A GIRLS NAME! His last name is very girly. Saito is a man! A man!
Habits:
✚ Not Finishing Games - With how many games that have been coming out Saito just doesn't have the time to commit to them all! But, what's more, it's a little sad when you finish a game and put it down. Saito doesn't replay many games anymore, so maybe he wants to hold onto those titles so that he has a reason to come back to them.
✚ Smoking - Really bad habit that he needs to kick.
✚ Drinking on Friday - Either this or Saturday really. But Saito loves cracking open a cold one with the boys and getting rowdy on a weekend night.
✚ Being Stupid - Saito likes being the clown. He thinks he has a pretty good sense of humor and likes getting other people to laugh. Whether it's cracking jokes or making funny noises, Saito always tries to lift the mood with his humor.
✚ Cracking Fingers - Saito's usually popping his fingers. Just a bored or nervous tik at this point.
✚ Noon Nap - Saito typically takes a nap after eating lunch. Gives him a little pick me up for the rest of the day.
✚ Daily Walks - See the above like, but, yeah, Saito makes a hobby out of going for walks. It's probably the healthiest thing he does. Too bad the snacking, drinking, and smoking are working against all of it.
Flaws:
✚ Midlife Worries - Wow. So we're here. This is something everybody will understand when they hit their thirties. They'll wonder and ask themselves if where they are is where they want to be. They'll ask themselves if they can do something better. Saito has nights where he struggles to get to sleep constantly wondering about his life and wondering if he's stuck now that he's in his thirties.
✚ Relationship Worries - Saito has been single for a long time. He's worried that he's gonna die, single and childless, alone at this point.
✚ Career Worries - Saito has been working the same job for years now and yet is only a manager of a convenience store. He's constantly thinking about whether he could find something better and yet is unwilling to move on to something else because of a fear of shaking up what he currently has. Is he meant for more or is this all he can do?
✚ Not Bright - Saito isn't that bright. He tends to think and act on his emotions rather than logic. If he feels something is the right thing to do then he'll do it consequences be damned.
✚ Heroic - Saito is heroic which is an odd flaw to state. But what this means is that Saito is willing to sacrifice what he has and himself for other people. Struck with survivors guilt, Saito values other people over himself. He's willing to inconvenience himself for other people without a second thought. His own life is meant to be in service to others.
✚ Gacha Gaming - Imagine throwing away your money on gambling for video game characters that aren't even real. Well, Saito knows what that's like! He wastes way too much money on whatever gacha game he's wound up playing.
✚ Bad Diet - Yeah, Saito could stand to eat better. This is just a simple fact. There's a reason he's over weight.
Fears:
✚ Empty Life - It's not that Saito is unique in this. Everyone has these thoughts. "What did I do with my life?" Each day is a day closer to the end. Life is a series of choices we make and living with the regrets that come along with them. Saito, now in his mid thirties, is often kept awake at night wondering if he wasted his life. Dead end career, no family, with the only thing in his life being his hobbies. Is this really all it is?
✚ No Marriage - Saito's been single for a long time. At this point in his life he was expected have found a wife and had a kid. But lack of social engagement and being busy with his job wound up keeping him from ever meeting anyone he would wind up marrying.
✚ Familial Expectations - Saito wants his mom to become a grandma. He doesn't want her to have to worry about him after she's gone. What's more, he wants to honor the memories of his father. Wants to live a life they'd both be proud of.
✚ Knees Giving Out - The joys of getting older. Saito's started noticing that his knees have begun to get aches and pains when he's crouched for too long. He hopes that isn't a sign of worse things to come.
✚ Gaining Another 10lbs - It is the most demoralizing thing in the world to actively work out, check the scale, and see you've put on weight. What do you mean I didn't lose weight after a week of working out? Saito is already heavy enough. He doesn't need to be adding another 10lbs to his body. Where is it going to go??
✚ Getting Older - The older you get the wiser and more confident you're supposed to get. But as Saito gets older all that happens is his anxieties grow worse and worse. Saito always has this feeling of time running out. It's not supposed to be like this.
✚ Hollows - Something that hasn't been mentioned up until this point is that Saito has always been able to see ghosts. What comes with that blessing though is the curse of also seeing Hollows. Actual, real, monsters. Monsters that eat ghosts and people that can see them. Saito never talks about them because he'd be locked up in a looney bin if people found out he can see monsters. Not often, mind you, at least before he moved to Karakura Town. But Saito had to live with the reality that there actually might be a monster hiding under the bed.
✚ Not Saving People - With great power comes great responsibility. When Saito obtains his superhuman abilities, he intends to use them to help better the lives of other people. Saito believes that because he has the power to help, it's his responsibility to do that. Naturally, this means that he's terrified of the possibility of failing to save someone and the consequences that come from that.
✚ Centipedes - Disgusting horrible creepy crawlies that get everywhere and are so super scary to look at.
✚ Heights - Holy moly is Saito bad with heights. He remembers riding a roller coaster once as a child and forever having a fear of heights afterwards.
✚ Killing Someone - Saito lives to save every life he can, so killing is anathema to him. He truly believes in the best in even the worst villains, and the best way for that to work is if he doesn't kill. Killing takes away someone's future, denying them the chance to get better and help make the world a better place.
Goals:
✚ Become a Hero - Saito wants to become the hero he's always wanted to be. A person who does everything they can to make the world a better place. To save lives. He's not doing it for thanks or for praise, but because it's the right thing to do.
✚ Happiness & Fulfillment - Live a life that he feels good about. What's wrong with that? Find a way to live out a life that doesn't cause him to be eaten alive by the anxieties he's constantly harassed by.
✚ Beat his Games - Saito has picked up and put down way too many games. He'd feel less pressured about buying new games if he didn't have a backlog constantly on his mind.
✚ Get Into Shape - Lose the fat get back into shape get bitches. Seems like a pretty straightforward thing.
✚ Financial Stability - Never having to worry about whether you'll have enough money next week to make it sure would be nice. Or having to worry about bills. Or rent. Or deciding between groceries and gacha games.
✚ Quit Smoking/Drinking - Yeah yeah he knows. It's a really bad habit that costs way too much money and that's way too bad for his health. Saito is well aware how bad these habits are and wants to kick them.
Overall Personality:Saito is a man whose kindness radiates in every interaction he has. Whether he's lending a helping hand to a neighbor or offering words of encouragement to a friend, his supportive nature is evident to all who know him. He possesses an innate ability to listen without judgment, and his genuine empathy allows him to connect with others on a deeper level. This kindness is not just a façade; it stems from a profound understanding of the struggles faced by those around him, shaped by his own experiences of self-doubt and unfulfilled dreams. Saito often finds himself in the role of the cheerleader, always ready to uplift others even when he feels weighed down by his own burdens.
Despite his warm demeanor, Saito grapples with an underlying anxiety that has intensified as he approaches his thirties. The societal expectations of success and stability loom over him like a dark cloud, causing him to question his choices and the direction of his life. Saito often finds himself in a state of introspection, pondering whether he has squandered his youth by abandoning his aspirations of becoming a hero—both in a literal sense and in the metaphorical sense of making a significant impact on the world around him. This anxiety manifests in sleepless nights filled with self-doubt and a nagging feeling that time is slipping away from him, making it increasingly difficult to maintain the positive attitude he strives for.
Saito's sense of unfulfillment is a persistent companion, whispering to him about the dreams he once had. As a child, he envisioned himself as a hero, someone who would save the day and inspire others. However, the realities of adulthood have led him down a different path, one that often feels mundane and uninspiring. He works a steady job that pays the bills but does little to ignite his passion. The contrast between his aspirations and his current life creates a constant tension within him, leading to moments of frustration and regret. Yet, despite this internal struggle, Saito refuses to let go of the hope that he can still carve out a meaningful existence for himself.
To combat his anxiety and feelings of inadequacy, Saito actively seeks ways to maintain a positive attitude. He practices mindfulness and gratitude, reminding himself of the small victories he achieves each day. Whether it’s completing a project at work or connecting with a friend, he celebrates these moments, no matter how trivial they may seem. Saito often engages in self-reflection, journaling about his feelings and aspirations, which helps him regain focus and clarity. This commitment to positivity does not mean he avoids his emotions; rather, he acknowledges them and uses them as fuel to propel himself forward.
Deep down, Saito yearns for the opportunity to become the hero he has always dreamed of being. He fantasizes about acts of bravery and selflessness, imagining himself in scenarios where he can make a real difference in the lives of others. These daydreams serve as both an escape and a source of motivation. Saito often volunteers at local charities, hoping to find that sense of purpose and fulfillment that has eluded him in his personal life. Each act of kindness, no matter how small, brings him a fleeting sense of joy and accomplishment, reminding him that even ordinary people can be heroes in their own right.
While Saito is dedicated to lifting others up, he often neglects his own needs, believing that his worth is tied to his ability to support those around him. This self-sacrificing nature can lead to feelings of resentment and burnout, as he struggles to balance his own aspirations with the expectations of others. The weight of his unfulfilled dreams often feels heavier when he witnesses his peers achieving their goals, further exacerbating his anxiety. Yet, he clings to the belief that there is still time to change his narrative, to take small steps toward realizing his dreams while continuing to be a source of strength for those he loves.
In a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, Saito remains a beacon of hope and kindness. His journey is one of self-discovery, where he learns that being a hero doesn’t always mean grand gestures; sometimes, it’s about the quiet moments of support and understanding he provides to others. As he navigates the complexities of adulthood, Saito is beginning to understand that fulfillment comes not from the achievements he once envisioned but from the connections he fosters and the kindness he spreads. In this realization lies the potential for a new chapter in his life—one where he embraces his dreams, confronts his anxieties, and ultimately becomes the hero of his own story.
