-Basic Information-
Name: Miya Okari
Age of Death: 3
Real Age/Age of Appearance: 36/19
Birthday (Month/Day): December 12
Blood Type: A-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 5’2’’ / 119lbs
Physical Description: Miya is an attractive young woman who takes care of her appearance. She is of a little below average height, with a slight build. She is naturally slender and though she is clearly in good shape, her muscles tend towards leanness rather than bulk. She is not particularly well endowed but her figure is still unmistakeably feminine.
She has dark brown hair that she keeps shiny and healthy. It is naturally straight and hangs down to the middle of her back but she usually styles it to be slightly wavy when not on combat missions, slightly overhanging the right side of her face, partially obscuring her eye. When expecting to be in combat, however, she keeps it straight and pulled back tight, often tucking it into her clothes as well.
She has dark brown eyes with long eyelashes. They are an attractive feature, large and warm in colour. They seem to be expressive, easily conveying joy or excitement, but when Miya assumes a more serious demeanour they can instantly become cold and impassive.
Her features are soft, with large eyes, full lips and a rounded face. She usually wears makeup intended to draw attention and enhance her beauty, even in situations where it is not called for. Her skin is tanned and perfectly smooth, with no visible blemishes or scars on her face.
When off duty or in disguise, she tends to wear loose, colourful clothing that is comfortable to wear and is attractive to the eye, revealing just enough of her figure to tantalise without crossing the line into scandalous. Her shihakusho is similarly worn just a little looser than regulations would usually suggest, with the right sleeve shortened to only come down to her elbow and her zanpakuto secured loosely on her left hip. When going on missions where she expects to see combat, however, she instead wears a black outfit that covers her entire body, including a head covering that leaves only her eyes exposed. On top of that, she often wears a blank, ceramic mask that is not entirely dissimilar to a Hollow’s mask. She also carries her sword horizontally across her back, more securely than when she carries it on her waist.
Her reiatsu is a silvery-white colour.

-Personality-
Dislikes:
Indecisiveness: Know what you want and go get it. Sometimes you might have to make tough decisions but dithering over it will just make things worse. Decide what you can afford to sacrifice and then go ahead without hesitation.
Gloominess: Life can be hard, cruel and often short, but what point is there in brooding over this? Take pleasure where you can get it and power through the pain in pursuit of your goals.
Disloyalty: If you pledge yourself to a person, an organisation, a cause or anything else, then you had best be prepared to fight and die for it.
Disrespect to the Shihoin: Miya lives to serve the Shihoin family and will not take disrespect towards them lying down.
Cruelty: Life sometimes calls upon Miya to take hard actions and she will do so without hesitating, but she never takes pleasure in it. Those who inflict pain for its own sake are the lowest level of scum to her.
Intoxication: Miya enjoys drinking and partying but always retains her faculties. She knows exactly where the line of her tolerance is and will not cross it, and she thinks less of those who cannot say the same.
Hedonism: A surprising dislike for Miya, given that she very blatantly enjoys pleasure herself, but she always holds pleasure as secondary to her duty. Those who value their pleasure above all else leave a bad taste in her mouth.
Stoicism: Of course, she feels that denying pleasure altogether is completely foolish. So long as one keeps control of their indulgences, it is not just acceptable to enjoy life, it is actively recommended as it keeps the body healthy and the mind sharp.
Sloth: Whatever your goal may be, work towards it. Those who lay about, growing fat or lazy with no ambition for the future, draw Miya’s scorn and pity. Not everybody has to be a warrior but nobody should allow themselves to languish unnecessarily.
Hunger: While Miya is sufficiently disciplined to ignore most discomforts if need be, she has a great dislike for being hungry. While she will go without food if need be, it is the one thing that can casually disrupt her stoic demeanour on missions and she will always try to eat something as soon as she gets hungry.
Likes:
The Shihoin: Like may not be a strong enough word. Miya all but worships the Shihoin, viewing them as the great providers who gave her everything she has.
The Okari: Miya also cares for her own adopted family, albeit less than she admires the Shihoin themselves. She recognises how fortunate she is to have been taken in by the Okari and is proud to serve the Shihoin alongside them.
Colour: Miya likes colourful clothes, colourful locales and colourful people. She recognises plain or dark colours are sometimes more practical but when given the chance, she will always be drawn to the bright and colourful.
Sake: Miya very much enjoys drinking sake. She is always careful not to overindulge but frequently drinks in moderation and knows how to make a small amount last an entire evening.
Beauty: Miya has a refined sense of aesthetics and appreciates beauty wherever she finds it. Whether it be a work of art, a beautiful location or a pretty face, she likes to keep her eye open for any memorable visions.
Dance: While not particularly interested in music itself, Miya does have a deep fascination with all forms of dance. She appreciates the physical mastery and control they require and has learned to be quite the capable dancer herself.
Efficiency: A job well done is its own reward. Whether she’s partying in a bar, training to master a technique or assassinating a target, she likes to go about it in the most effective way possible to maximise the benefits of success.
Food: As somebody who knows what it is to go hungry and to starve, Miya understandably has a great appreciation for food. She is not remotely a picky eater and will eat just about anything. She likes hot food most but generally prefers to experience a wide range of different tastes and flavours.
Conviction: If you know where you stand, then stand firm. Miya has great respect for anybody who will stand by their chosen position no matter the cost. Even if she fundamentally disagrees with your opinion and may hate you for endorsing that position, she will at the very least begrudgingly acknowledge that you stood by your beliefs.
Flaws:
Obsequious: Her idolisation of the Shihoin cause her to be a bit too eager to please. She gets flustered when in their presence and tends to be a bit overly effusive in her praise.
Blindly Loyal: It’s not enough to say that she views the Shihoin as good, her entire concept of good is centred around them. She will agree with just about anything that she believes comes from them mouth of a Shihoin and doesn’t waste time questioning or considering their orders.
Cold: In her personal life, Miya is a very friendly, gregarious individual who quickly forms strong friendships. In her professional career, however, she shows no emotions at all and should the two halves of her life come in conflict, she will turn on personal friends without hesitating.
Defensive: While Miya understands and accepts that not everybody shares her intense loyalty to the Shihoin, she is nevertheless a touch overly sensitive to perceived criticisms against them. If you have anything less than 100% enthusiastic praise for the Shihoin, then it is best not to raise the subject in Miya’s hearing.
Martyr Complex: Miya is not just willing to sacrifice herself or others, she seems almost eager to do so. An offhand remark from a Shihoin on something they want will lead her to risk life and limb to obtain it.
Nosy: In her more public persona, Miya is fairly inquisitive and doesn’t appreciate the value of privacy. If she picks up that somebody is going through something, she will constantly needle away at them to find out what, and is not above using her skillset to investigate.
Habits:
Stammering: When in the presence of a Shihoin, she will often get flustered and start tripping over her words in an attempt to praise them. While she can give formal reports efficiently, anything else will have her melting into a puddle, eyes downcast and head awhirl.
Sunbathing: Whenever she steps into direct sunlight for the first time, Miya always takes a moment to stretch and luxuriate in the warmth.
Framing: Whenever she sees something new that she finds aesthetically appealing or interesting, Miya forms a frame with her thumbs and index fingers and looks through it at the subject, taking the chance to memorise the image.
Partying: Whenever given the chance, Miya will celebrate all the joys in her life. Eat, drink and be merry is her motto, for tomorrow we may have to kill people.
Mixing Food: As much as Miya likes food, she typically prefers a variety of new tastes rather than consistently high quality. As such, she will often mix foods together in odd and frankly off-putting combinations.
Fears:
Rejection: Miya owes everything in her life to the Shihoin and the Okari for taking her in. The idea of being cast out by them terrifies her beyond all reason.
Failure: And equally terrifying is the possibility of failing to protect the Shihoin. She would rather die than allow them to come to harm but fears that she will not be given the choice.
Starvation: Miya has only faint memories of her time before the Okari, but she knows what it is to go hungry and in her training as a youth, withholding meals was a common form of discipline. She dislikes missing meals and the idea of protracted starvation is one of the few things that can break her emotionless façade when she is on mission.
Paralysis: Miya values herself as a tool of the Shihoin and in her personal time, she is a very energetic and kinetic individual. As such, being paralysed would severely hinder both aspects of her life.
Goals:
Serve the Shihoin: Miya’s fondest wish is to help the Shihoin climb to ever greater heights. She intends to live and die in their service.
Raise Up the Okari: The Okari are merely vassals of the Shihoin, but at the moment they are very minor vassals. Miya would see them becoming more honoured subordinates, the first ones the Shihoin look to for support in matters of importance.
Be Adopted into the Shihoin: Okari Shinigami who excel and rise in the ranks are occasionally adopted into the Shihoin household themselves. While Miya would never presume to expect this, it would be one of her greatest dreams come true.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Overall Personality: Miya is an individual of great duality. She is simultaneously a gregarious, fun-loving young woman and an emotionless tool to be used as her superiors see fit. While the former may be her more natural personality, she views the latter as the most important part of who she is.
When given free time to act as she pleases, Miya believes in living life to the fullest and taking whatever pleasures she can find. She approaches life with an almost hedonistic appetite, spending a great deal of time partying and indulging in all manner of pleasures. She is extremely friendly and social, willing to have fun with anybody who can keep up with her, though she admittedly is drawn to people she finds attractive even if there is no intention of pursuing anything beyond conversation. She loves good food, good sake and good-looking companions, either platonically or more intimately.
While this can give the impression of irresponsibility or recklessness, the truth is that for all her enthusiasm, Miya is actually careful to stay within her limits and not overindulge. While she appreciates a nice buzz from drinking, she is careful to never become fully drunk and though she may dance the night away, she always ensures that she will be capable of completing any necessary tasks the following day. She walks the line between hedonism and practicality but she is careful not to go over that line.
Her more stoic personality stems from the intense loyalty she feels towards her own adopted family, the Okari, and more importantly, the Shihoin. She all but idolises the members of the Shihoin family, viewing them as almost divine beings. She has been trained from a young age to serve and obey them and now she views herself as a tool of the Shihoin first and a person second. As far as she is concerned, every breath she takes is owed to them and as such, it is only fair for her to dedicate her life, and quite possibly her death, to their service.
In order to serve the Shihoin, she has trained to be an effective spy and assassin. Her bright, exuberant manner in public serves as a nice distraction from her more secretive activities. Nobody would expect the girl who spent all night drinking and dancing on tables of spying on the people sitting at those tables, after all. When given a task by the Shihoin or when assuming her covert duties, she suppresses any emotions that might distract from her task and becomes cold and ruthlessly efficient. If tasked with killing one hundred innocents, she will do so without hesitating or even questioning why. She takes no pleasure but accepts it as a necessary part of her duties and, seeing no point in lingering on it, she will put it behind her after a brief moment of reflection and go right back to partying.
Very few things can break through her stoic façade when she is “on duty”, so to speak. First of all, as she is motivated by her adoration of the Shihoin, she will react harshly and sometimes even violently to any apparent disparagement of them. Secondly, for all her self-discipline, she has always had a weak spot when it comes to hunger. While she will continue on her missions even while hungry, she can’t help but show signs of her growing hunger and has trouble devoting her full focus to the mission.

-Powers-
Fighting Style: Miya prefers to end her fights quickly and efficiently. She lacks the physical strength and stamina to go toe to toe with more direct fighters, so she ideally prefers to strike rapidly from hiding. Her speed and stealth are her greatest assets and she uses them both to her utmost advantage.
When she is drawn into a protracted fight, she will use any dirty trick at her disposal to gain an advantage. She doesn’t care about honour or competition, she simply strives to succeed at any cost. Blinding foes, targeting weak spots and using extra weapons are all common tactics for her. If need be, she is willing to take hits herself in order to gain an opening on her enemy.
Due to her physical frailty, she does not excel at unarmed combat and thus always prefers to use her sword and other weaponry. When assassination fails and she is forced to rely on open combat, she favours tactics of misdirection, utilising feints and rapid changes in her movements. She often incorporates large, seemingly flamboyant gestures with her blade that draw the eye and allow her to then draw another weapon and attack with a free hand.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance: It is difficult to make out details of Nagareboshi’s appearance, as she is constantly shining with a bright light. However, she appears to take the form of a woman in an outfit similar to a nun’s habit, complete with wimple. This resemblance is supported by the fact that she often has her hands clasped in front of her, as if in prayer. She does not appear to have any facial features, the front of her head simply appearing as a blank, featureless plane of light.
Nagareboshi is a perpetually joyful spirit, seemingly incapable of feeling any emotions beyond happiness. This does make her rather friendly and cooperative towards Miya but it can also be off putting. As a sword, her main method of interacting with the world beyond Miya is through bloodletting and she very openly derives just as much joy from combat, including the killing and wounding of others, as she does from Miya’s own prosperity and success. She also has trouble understanding why Miya would ever choose things like duty or morality over the pursuit of pleasure. She doesn’t care enough to argue with Miya about this but she is very blunt and will not hesitate to voice her perplexity on this or any other subject.
Nagareboshi also has a mischievous side, deriving great deals of amusement from pranks, with Miya usually serving as the sole target. She spends much of her time setting traps throughout Miya’s inner world and while they are not deliberately lethal, Nagareboshi doesn’t think twice about setting traps that could easily injure or even kill an unprepared target. While she enjoys seeing one of her traps succeed, she is also proud and pleased when Miya manages to evade them.
Inner World: Miya’s inner world appears as the interior of a sprawling building with traditional Japanese architecture. Shoji screens line countless, labyrinthine corridors. The corridors seem identical, with no signs or identifying features beyond a preponderance of Shihoin crests, and the myriad rooms seem to be scattered about at random. Nagareboshi may know her way around but for anybody else, it would be impossible not to get lost, especially given that staircases lead to multiple levels which do not seem to match the layout of the surrounding floors.
It is always night, with no moon in the sky and stars as the only source of light. As such, the corridors are nearly pitch black when Nagareboshi isn’t around and while there are a few open roofed courtyards throughout this world, the rest of it only has small windows in the ceiling, walls and/or floor to allow a minimal amount of light in. Through these windows, one can often see glimpses of the rest of the structure that makes up this world, a three-dimensional labyrinth that should not be remotely structurally sound.
Miya’s inner world is also filled with numerous traps scattered around, though this is not a natural feature. Nagareboshi regularly sets up pitfalls, trip wires and more, with the payloads ranging from harmless but humiliating annoyances to borderline lethal.
Zanpakutou Appearances: In its sealed form, Nagareboshi is a ninjato with a blade about 16 inches long. The hilt is wrapped in black cloth, with the white hilt underneath visible in the diamond-shaped gaps in the wrapping. It has a thin, rectangular tsuba and a black sheathe.
In its shikai, Nagareboshi’s physical shape doesn’t actually change at all. The colour of the white hilt and its black wrappings reverse but the greatest visible change is that the blade starts to glow with a white light. An aura of light forms around the blade, the approximate length and shape of a katana blade. Even without the aura, the physical blade continues to glow brightly and this light makes it hard to look directly at and falsely gives the impression that it has grown a little larger, though this is just a trick of the light.
Zanapakutou Release Names Flash, Nagareboshi (流れ星) (Shooting Star)
Overall Ability: The overall ability of Miya’s zanpakutou is the generation and manipulation of light. While this light can be used to form energy-based attacks, its primary use is its blinding brightness. Most opponents will have a hard time dealing with the blinding light while to Miya’s eyes, it only seems to illuminate without impeding her vision at all.
Shikai Overall Ability: Nagareboshi passively glows brightly enough to make looking directly at it rather difficult but this light grows even more intense when Miya channels more of her reiatsu through the blade or when the blade itself moves. The faster it moves and the more reiatsu channelled through it, the brighter it shines. This can cause it to emit blinding flashes as Miya moves to attack, dazzling enemies and leaving them incapable of defending themselves.
The light Nagareboshi emits also forms an aura around the blade which is capable of physically cutting through objects, effectively extending the cutting edge by about ten inches, the exact length increasing as the intensity of the light grows, and leaving a short-lived trail of cutting energy in its wake. It is worth noting that while this aura can cut through objects like a physical blade, it doesn’t actually have any mass and functions more like a shaped laser. Any object durable enough to resist being cut will pass through the aura as if it wasn’t there, albeit sustaining a degree of cutting damage as it goes. Miya can also manually manipulate this aura, utilising it in a number of techniques.
Zanpakuto Techniques: [Generate below. Include powers and weaknesses.]
Other Techniques:
Birthplace: Toyama, Japan
Current Residence: Okari Barracks
Memorable Figures:
Tenjiro Okari: The member of the main Okari Clan who was in charge of training Miya’s batch of trainees. He serves as her direct superior within the Okari. Very strict but also protective of his trainees, he ensures that Miya and her peers are not pushed beyond their breaking point and that they remain in good health.
Hirotetsu Okari: The current head of the Okari Clan. A cold man who works tirelessly to promote his Clan’s wellbeing but doesn’t view the adopted members as “true” Okari and would gladly sacrifice them without hesitation. He works hard to promote the Okari Clan and gain support from their Shihoin patrons but some believe he has grown tired of being mere vassals and is looking for ways to split from the Shihoin and stand by themselves.
History: Miya was born in the world of the living with greater than average spiritual power, and likely would have developed the ability to see spirits if she had grown up there. Tragically, however, she was only three when she fell ill and passed away. What little memories she had of her life and family in that world have long since faded and her earliest memories are of the streets of the Rukongai, consumed by hunger with no ability to provide for herself.
The course of her life was set when she was found by a representative of the Okari Clan. The Okari are a minor noble family that serve as vassals for the Shihoin. They largely serve as recruiters for the Shihoin, though they function more like a cult. They periodically send their agents through the Rukon District to search for young children who show signs of high spiritual pressure. These children are then brought to the Okari compound and are raised together in a barracks on the clan’s grounds. There, they are taught to show absolute loyalty and respect to the Shihoin as well as trained in combat and stealth. Those who show little aptitude for this are instead trained as skilled, loyal servants of the Okari and Shihoin clans while those who do show promise are adopted into a branch family of the Okari and put through the next stage of training.
The newly adopted Okari would then go through extreme training to become the soldiers, spies and assassins of the Shihoin. This allowed the Okari to provide a steady stream of high-quality recruits to the Gotei 13 and the Onmitsukido, all loyal and devoted to the Shihoin. Most of these recruits, while competent, lacked the drive and innate talent to advance through the ranks and instead remained as rank-and-file members of their squads, albeit relatively skilled and dedicated ones. For the occasional recruit who did excel and rise to officer positions, however, there was always the tantalising hope that the Shihoin might see fit to adopt them from the Okari into their own family, so as to bolster their status further.
Miya’s innate physical condition was somewhat lacking compared to her peers but she did well at her training and was exceptionally susceptible to the indoctrination of loyalty to the Shihoin. While the Okari’s methods had always been very successful at instilling strong loyalty in their trainees, Miya went beyond loyalty, all but worshipping the Shihoin. She strove to excel so as to better serve them and was one of those selected for adoption and further training. She and the other trainees were put under the supervision of Tenjiro Okari, a member of the main household who had served within the Gotei 13 before retiring to focus on training his family’s next batch of recruits.
The training she and the other children underwent was brutal, being pushed to their limits, held to the highest standards and disciplined harshly for any failings. Most of Miya’s peers, those who did not fail to keep up at least, were broken down by the brutal training and became fairly emotionless but Miya’s adoration of the Shihoin drove her in a different direction. She embraced the harsh training eagerly and though she was taught to be cold and practical in her tasks, she retained a sunny attitude outside of her training.
Indeed, she seemed to grow even more cheerful in her limited free time as the training intensified and she further compartmentalised her emotions. Miya struggled to keep up with the combat training but displayed an early talent for stealth, which combined with her fanatical loyalty made her a promising candidate as an assassin. This involved further mental conditioning to ensure she could lie, kill and do anything else that the Shihoin might require, but again she defied expectations by internalising these lessons without losing her overall joyful nature. Indeed, if anything her behaviour became even more exuberant and cheerful in the limited free time available to her. This was likely due in part to compartmentalisation of her emotions, but she also made a deliberate attempt to divorce her public actions from her missions on the Shihoin behalf and thus evade notice. While the other stealth-oriented trainees tended to be cold and quiet, drawing suspicion on themselves for their behaviour, she had a talent for passing among others and mingling without drawing attention. Or rather, drawing attention in ways that ensured she would not be the subject of suspicion.
Even as she excelled at spying and detecting the secrets of others, however, she had something of a blind spot when it came to the secrets going on within the Okari themselves. As a mere adopted trainee of the branch househould, Miya never had cause to interact with Hirotetsu Okari, the head of the family, or those closest to him. Tenjiro was the most senior member of the family she regularly interacted with and he had little patience for politics. She was thus largely oblivious to the fact that the leadership of her family viewed her and her peers as disposable pawns, or that they were secretly considering a change in direction for the family; it was time, some said, that the Okari stop living in the shadow of the Shihoin and look to rise up and stand equal to them… or even above them.
This training carried on for years, decades even, with Miya proving herself to be the best of her peer group when it came to matters of espionage and assassination. Having been deemed to be sufficiently prepared, she was sent to the Academy, with instructions to pass her classes and secure a position in the Onmitsukido. For Tenjiro and the more traditionalist members of the family, this is a fairly standard position for somebody in her position but others keep an eye on possible futures where having their own people in the Onmitsukido and the Gotei 13 could prove useful for their own reasons.
