The sunlight was absolutely beaming out over Kansas City as the birds sang and the city bustled about, noisily honking cars ran through the streets, and children laughed as they ran alongside their teachers as they headed to their new favorite activity. It seemed very odd to Colina that a garden would be placed in such a populated area, but the city had torn down a building in the middle of downtown and gifted it to a local school. It seemed that today was specifically for the kindergartners, she noted as she sat across the street from the garden itself while perching on a lamp post. Colina licked at her front right paw as she stared at the children, no hunger in her heart, but instead thought of an old, silent friend.
The day seemed to be beginning perfectly for these small creatures as they were assigned tools and given bags of dirt and seeds. Colina wondered what they might be planting today. "Is it squash? Or perhaps carrots? Could even be corn." She sighed happily as she leaned forward, trying to peer down at the innocent as they ran along giggling about their business. That was until Colina felt it. A sudden drop in the air, a cold shift in the universe, and a sudden increase in spiritual energy that felt.... hollow. The sky above split, twisting and gnawing at itself before a loud gasp of air escaped from between black lines that split reality. The gaping maw of black suddenly became wide as a man clad in a white robe and two large white horns like an Ibex stepped through.
"Ah. What a pleasant day. Beasties, feed....." The man spoke eloquently and swept open his robe as he finished his singular phrase, revealing a horde of hollows that spilled out from the black maw and from behind the man. Colina's eyes widened and she growled as she rushed into the air. "What are you doing?!" she growled loudly, exerting her spiritual pressure as much as she could to try and intimidate the man. No, the arrancar. But he laughed.
"What? Oh, little beasty. I'm going to let my flock feed. And feed. Until I can challenge all of Las Noches itself. Why not enjoy the free meals and join me?" The arrancar wiggled his eyebrows at Colina, which made her lurch slightly at the absurdity. But as she was about to attack him, Colina heard a scream below. One of the children. She immediately turned and dashed towards the ground and got to the hollow threatening the garden... too late. Three children were currently being used as a meal in a game of tug o' war. And Colina had a flash of Caballaro in her mind looking so... ashamed.
Colina roared and rushed forward, slamming into one of the hollow, a tiger looking Adjucha that seemed to be enjoying his meal too much for her taste. It quickly lashed back out at Colina and attempted to swipe at her left side, but she easily sidestepped his attacking. She danced around his paws like water slipping over rocks, just out of reach and causing frustration in her opponent. Colina might be losing her head a little, but she knew she had to fight smart to protect the rest of the children from harm. Caballaro wouldn't want Colina to fail in this task, she knew it.
Colina leapt back for a moment and studied the scene. Most of the kids and two of the teachers had made it to the supply shed in a hurry and had locked themselves in. The hollows were too busy with the victims they had or in other parts of the city to notice them. But colina knew that wouldn't last much longer. She had to end this fight and start hunting all of these bastards soon. Colina quickly closed the distance between herself and the Adjucha, coming directly up to his face and growling loudly as she swiped with her left claw at his head. The Adjucha ducked low, according to Colina's plan. She drove her righthand claws up and through his head and began devouring him with urgency.
