Staring out over the city she was protecting, Addy watched oblivious bystanders go about their lives. It was always an experience visiting the Realm of the Living as it was so different from the Soul Society. There was so much life here, so much excitement. But this increased vitality came with a cost. While crime wasn’t particularly rampant here, it was still a thing. People were suffering, and there wasn’t much Addy could do about it. She wasn’t here to fix the world, only to protect it. From enemies the people down below couldn’t even fathom.
Glancing up at the cloudless sky, Addy enjoyed the pleasant sight of the moon frolicking with the nearby stars. It was a nice night, with her surroundings being easily visible thanks to the light from above. It made her job easier. She had chosen to patrol at this time for two reasons. The first was that her shinigami robes blended in naturally to a dark setting like this. Lurking in the shadows and waiting for her prey was pretty cool, and Addy felt quite impressive doing so. The second was that hollows usually hunted around this time. And if she wanted to purify them, she would have to adapt to their times.
The people down below were innocent, and as long as Addy was here, no hollows would be snacking on their souls. She wouldn’t allow it. This was why she was fighting, why she was always striving to improve. To protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. Plus she wasn’t a fan of hollows to begin with, so she definitely didn’t mind killing them. All the ones she had fought before were monstrous, both in appearance and personality. They would hunt for sport and extend the suffering of their victims just for fun. Was it their base nature to do so? Addy couldn’t comprehend how one could be so cruel, but she didn’t need understanding in order to stop such an action. So here she awaited, perched on top of a roof, on a cool quiet night. One that wouldn’t stay quiet for long.

Stretching her shoulders as she stepped into the Human World, Leonie took the opportunity to glance around the area, picking up on what she could. There was something to say about how the moonlight shined high in the sky; most would've called it beautiful. Somewhat relaxing, even. Leonie couldn't stand it.
Taking a walk through the street, the girl ran through her mission in her head once more. There was a fair bit that she'd needed to get done, and this was the first operation that she was given on her own; a demonstration of leadership, and self-sustainability. She only hoped that she'd live up to Caesar's standards. There was quite a lot riding on this little endeavor, and she couldn't afford to fail.
Namely, this was her first extinction campaign.
Humming a soft tune to herself as she adjusted her hat, the girl continued down the sidewalk, looking toward a small number of people simply enjoying the nightlife. In due time however, that was prone to change. Hearing a loud crash, and the near-deafening roar of a hollow, Leonie took the opportunity to spring into action. Almost immediately, she fired a pair of arrows at the beast as she caught sight of it, putting it down almost as quickly as she'd arrived. Not without the damned thing making quite a bit of noise, though. Ugh, she thought to herself, this is only going to slow down my productivity.

From her vantage point, it wasn’t too much of a challenge for Addy to spot the hollow lurking below. Like most of its brethren, its body size was pretty large, so it stuck out. Easily noticeable for one searching for its ilk. Yet before she could make a move against it, it vanished. After a moment of thinking on the matter, she shook her head. No, it was exterminated. And since Addy was the shinigami in charge of this sector, it was up to her to investigate. What had killed her prey? A spiritually aware human, or something else? The only thing she had really noticed was that the hollow was killed from a range. Truly not much to go on unfortunately.
Leaping off the roof and descending towards the ground in a series of hops, Addy kept her hands on the hilt of her swords as she looked for her mysterious hunter. She wasn’t sure if they were friendly, so she kept her guard up. When she reached ground level, it should be pretty obvious who her hunter was, assuming they stayed where they were. After all, there weren’t many people out and about, especially at the location she had just descended too. Brushing some of her golden hair out of her face, Addy listened out for any noise in her vicinity as she spoke.
“Hello? Is anyone out there?”
Watching her corners and surroundings carefully, Addy waited for a response. There was a chance she wouldn't get one, which meant that her search would have to continue. Hopefully she’d get an answer though, as she didn’t really want to chase down whoever was prowling nearby. But if she had too, she would. The safety of this town was paramount. And Addy would do whatever she needed to do in order to accomplish her goal.

“Hello? Is anyone out there?”
Those words immediately piqued the Quincy's interest. Turning her attention toward the woman, before taking the opportunity to walk in the direction of the voice, Leonie found herself chuckling. For someone to hear such a sound... She had to've been spiritually aware. There was simply little that could be done to justify otherwise, especially after the cry of a Hollow. It was time to have a little fun.
"My, it seems that someone's found their way into a rather precarious situation." She taunted, "why don't you come out, that we can discuss your... existence, mm?" She chuckled. If nothing else, she was going to be quite interested in tormenting this human. Given she couldn't convert, and given she was out on an extinction campaign, she had no reason to spare some human.
Walking down the street, as her heels tapped against the sidewalk, the girl resummoned and readied her bow. She allowed her spiritual signature to flare, in order to point her out a little easier. If nothing else, she was curious to see how this hunt was going to go. If nothing else, if this human proved to be competent, then there was quite the hope for her advancing out of this! She could hardly wait.
"If you're not going to come out and face me, then perhaps I'll just have to chase you down."

Just from the woman’s first sentence alone, Addy was able to understand what type of foe she was facing. The worst of the worst. Utter scum. Repulsive. The shinigami hated those types the most. The ones that preyed on the weak. Merely for fun or for a passing whim. Unsheathing her swords quietly, Addy listened around the corner as her opponent continued to taunt. “I think you’ll find such a chase quite dangerous.”
Leaping out behind her corner, Addy charged to where her opponent’s spiritual signal was with a shunpo. She would need to strike hard and fast. She could ask questions later. Perhaps immediately attacking was too hasty, but she would have to be a fool to not recognize the subtext of the stranger’s words. It was her duty to protect the innocents, something she had a feeling she might fail if she allowed her opponent to get away.
Raising her arms in front of her, Addy would finish her attack with a thrust of her blades. Speed was on her side this time around, so she needed to fully use it to her advantage. Perhaps the attack would catch the woman off guard, but the Kuchiki doubted it. This was more of a probing attack, to see where her opponent’s skill laid. The woman was a bit too confident for just an average opponent. The question was, would her strength back her words?
--------------- Reiatsu: 490/540 Combat: - Shunpo towards Leonie's spiritual signature at a speed of 540 - Thrusting dual blades approaching at a speed of 54
A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. As speed is the main point of the technique, the method is best characterized by how fast one can get from Point A to Point B in the least amount of steps. Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Shunpo can move. Those of little skill in the technique or those who haven't used it for an extended amount of time would obviously be out of practice, causing those individuals to be considerably slower. This requires the use of more steps to move the same distance and become tired more easily in a shorter amount of time. A single step magnifies speed for that step by ten times. Shunpo uses fifty Reiatsu per step. This one is automatically learned in the academy. All Shinigami know this when created. This technique does not take up a technique slot.

The moment she heard the Shinigami's words, Leonie drew on a steel hilt as fast she could. Before she could even blink, the woman was immediately upon her, quickly catching her off-guard. She'd reacted quickly enough to start the ignition of her blade, but not fast enough to launch a counter-offensive in the meantime.
Locking blades with the Shinigami, doing she she could to intercept the incoming blows with a pair of Seele Schneider, the Quincy found herself almost buckling underneath the girl's physical strength. This was going to prove to be quite the fight, if nothing else. "Tch," she scoffed, taking a short leap back, "such may be the case. That said, I'm not going to let some Shinigami deter me of my goals." The declaration aimed to strike like a knife.
Pointing her blades toward the ground, the girl squinted her eyes, and did what she could to size up her opponent. "Multi-weapon fighter, proven by your stance. Self-taught, and not half-bad. Or, perhaps you've acquired your skill through tutoring?" She smirked. She knew full-well that picking others apart tended to get underneath the skin of some; perhaps this woman was the same? She certainly hoped so.
Keeping her eyes on her foe, Leonie did what she could to prepare for an incoming series of attacks from her opponent. Especially while this woman could outspeed her like that, she wasn't exactly at liberty to start an assault against her. Such just wouldn't be successful. Thus, she'd need to see where this girl was going to take her approach.
{x2 Class 8 Selee Schneider} Name: Seele Schneider Description: A decently sized shaft of spiritual steel resembling that of a sword hilt, with a small loop on the end of it. These Quincy items are necessary for the technique of the same name to be activated. When activated, a medium-length blade of Reiatsu is formed from the hilt. This blade vibrates at very high frequencies, and is capable of loosening the bonds between Spirit Particles, and then stealing the free Spirit Particles. Type of Item: Tool/Weapon Class: 8 Item Power (IP): Varies. Offense Type: Spiritual. Durability: 500 Bonuses: When the Seele Schneider is activated, it has an IP of 0. However, it cannot be overpowered by a technique of equal or inferior class, regardless of that technique's offensive stat. Instead, any technique that interacts with Seele Schneider has its Offensive Stat reduced by 100, and then the Seele Schneider's IP increases by 100. If the Seele Schneider interacts offensively with a Reiatsu-based being - such as a Shinigami, Arrancar, Hollow Akki, Rogue or Beast-Clan - then the person struck loses 50 Reiatsu, and the Seele Schneider's IP increases by 50. This includes when the Seele Schneider strikes an extension of that being's soul, such as part of their Zanpakutō or Resurrección. At any stage, the Seele Schneider can be fired by the user, using their standard bow, as an arrow. This arrow has an IP and Speed equal to that of the Seele Schneider's IP at the time of firing. Drawbacks: The Selee Schneide can only be activated at a Class equal to or lower than the user's. The Selee Schneide can only steal Reiatsu from techniques or beings whose Class is lower to, or equal to, the Class of the Selee Schneide. The costs for activating the Selee Schneide is the same as normal Quincy arrows of the same Class, and cost that much Reiatsu per post in order to maintain. While these items are reusable if they can be retrieved, a Seele Schneider's Hilt will always take damage to its durability as though it were a Class 8 Item, with 0 IP. The Hilt itself must be damaged in order to reduce its durability, however. This items is only usable by Quincies, Nakabakki-Quincy, or Failures.

Clashing blades with her opponent, Addy attempted to overwhelm the woman in front of her with her strength. But alas, the Kuchiki was not known for her power, and thus the two were at a standstill. Yet that was only what it looked like from a glance. “I guess we shall see won’t we?” Rebutting Leonie’s declaration with a snarl, Addy watched her opponent carefully as she was examined from head to toe. It was a tad bit annoying seeing as how they were in the middle of combat, but there wasn’t much else she could do. She only had her meager strength to blame.
“Wow, it seems your eyes do in fact work. Mucho impressive.” Ignoring her opponent’s smirk, Addy glanced down at her zanpakutos. Something wasn’t right. When the two collided, she was met with a brief sensation of exhaustion. The two only had a singular exchange of blows, it didn’t make sense that she was feeling this drained. Narrowing her eyes at her opponent’s weapons, the Kuchiki leapt back before dashing towards Leonie’s right side. This time she angled her attacks towards the lower part of her opponent’s body.
The reason for this was twofold. Something strange was going on with Leonie’s weapons, and Addy wasn’t quite sure what it was. Just mere contact with the blades was enough for her strength to be sapped? An annoying weapon, that was for sure. And because of this, the Kuchiki only had limited options for moving forward. Her go to plan was to Shunpo in and out of combat, but with her power being drained, she might not have enough reiatsu for this tactic. Currently she was aiming for the legs in hopes that such an attack was harder to block. Not the smartest of tactics she had come up with, but it was all she had for the time being. Avoiding contact with her opponent’s weapons was a must, Addy just wasn’t sure if she was capable of such a feat.

Listening to her foe's words, before glancing down toward her swords, Leonie couldn't help but smirk. Seems that she'd realized something was up. "Seems someone's quite cocky, no? Surely you know better than to try and taunt an opponent you know little about. Unless, do they not teach you to keep in check back in Seireitei~?" If nothing else, she was going to have fun with this woman. It was the second Shinigami she'd encountered, and the second that seemed to hit her back with the same comments. An interesting pattern, no doubt.
Watching carefully as the Shinigami girl took the time to approach her, Leonie watched her stance drop, as she went in for a low strike toward her legs. As the blades closed in on her, Leonie took the opportunity to jump over them, though suffered from a clip of the blade against her leg. "Tch!" She scoffed once more, the girl did what she could to throw her weight into Addy from her jump.
The goal from here was to utilize the girl's chest and stomach as a sort of springboard with her good leg, pressing off in order to kick, as well as create a bit of distance between the two of them. Being quite the untrained maneuver, and lacking the physical strength to do much to force the girl's movements, Leonie had only hope that her plan would work. If not, she'd need to take other measures to deal with such a foe.
Regardless of whether her maneuver worked or not, Leonie was going to take whatever opportunity presented itself to rebalance, and stand across from her foe. "Surely you've picked it up by now, mm?" She asked, "it might do you some good to fight from a distance, Shinigami. Surely you have a few spells under your belt?"

“And what? Do your superiors just teach you how to mouth off? Not my fault if you take offense at the truth.” The woman in front of her was proving to be quite the vexing opponent. If she had her way, the Quincy would have been strangled ages ago. Addy didn’t want to think about their previous exchange, but she was currently being left with no choice. Was Leonie actually stronger than her? Judging from the lack of air her body now possessed, she was assuming so.
The amount of disrespect the Shinigami was receiving from the Quincy was truly a sight to behold. Spring boarding off of Addy herself? Especially when she had been mid-attack? She was being toyed with. It was an embarrassment. While the damage she received from the blow was negligible, the same couldn’t be said about her pride. It was hard to mouth off when you were getting your ass whooped. And it only took a few moments of silence before Leonie began snarking at her once more.
“If I had a few spells under my belt, why would I not be using them? Are you truly so idiotic that you couldn’t even realize this?” It was obvious fighting the Quincy at close range would be difficult, but she had no other choice. Was she supposed to make distance then? And then do what? Her only skill lay in her swordplay. She knew no Kido or anything of the like. This would be fine if her swordplay made up for it. But seeing how the fight was going, she clearly had more to learn.
Glaring at the purple haired woman with a frown, Addy pondered her next move. She could try to take the woman by surprise, but currently such an endeavor would be impossible. Nothing in her repertoire would allow her to do so. She’d be more prepared in the future, but as for now, she had nothing. Fleeing was still an option, an option Addy wouldn’t take. How could she look herself in the eye if she fled from a battle? Especially one like this. She had already said so much. If she couldn’t back her words up, the amount of shame she would feel would be unbearable.
Shunpo’ing in front of Leonie, Addy thrusted her blades towards the upper part of her chest. With thrusts, her attacks should prove more difficult to block, as her blades were a smaller target than if she chose to swing. The odds weren’t looking too good for the shinigami, but when had that stopped her before? She would persevere onwards, until her body couldn’t anymore. That was the path she laid for herself.

Leonie couldn't help but smirk at the Shinigami's words. Seemed that she was starting to get underneath her skin; good. "Oh, please," she started, "you Shinigami do the same little trick all the time; willfully holding back until you need to let loose something fierce against your opponent. Be it something as utterly mundane as Kidō, or even unleashing that Zanpakutō of yours. If you don't have Kidō, surely you've some powers you can make use of, mm~?"
Another smug laugh followed thereafter, as the girl maintained the same composure she had previously. Unfortunately though, her cockiness seemed to be quite problematic for her; problematic enough for her to end up once again caught off-guard from Addy's frustratingly quick speeds. As she took the opportunity to Shunpō in front of her, Leonie found herself almost flat-footed; at least, long enough to end up pierced in the shoulder by one of the blades, prompting an agonizing pain from the Quincy.
"Ugh!" She groaned, "f-fine, then. If that's how we're going to do this..." As she trailed off, and released a small burst of her own spiritual aptitude, a series of arrows began to manifest overhead; no use of a bow had been necessary for Leonie. Not at this point. Instead, each individual arrow had been pointed downward, aimed for both Addy, as well as the sword that currently poked through Leonie's shoulder. Within a split second after manifesting, each one fired.
The goal here was to force the Shinigami to fall back, and potentially even withdraw her blade. If she'd taken too long, or left her sword still in the Quincy's shoulder, those that remained would find themselves pelted fairly hard by the girl's arrows. While it likely wouldn't be enough to put the girl down on their own, the same was unlikely to be said for her Zanpakutō. Even a single arrow was going to be enough to shatter one of the blades; the question remained, was she to pull back? Leonie was dying to know.
Instead of firing from her bow, Meteorregen allows Leonie to instead fire her arrows from the sky. By paying the normal Reiatsu cost, Leonie’s arrows manifest ten feet above the location she’s looking to hit, before pelting down. In buildings or areas where the ceiling is below 10 feet, it instead manifests at the ceiling. In order for her to pick an area to pelt, either the area she’s looking to strike needs to be within her sight, or the area in which she wants to create the arrows needs to be within her sight. Arrows can only be fired downward from this effect.

Perhaps Addy had overestimated her strength. By quite a bit too, judging from the attack headed her way. An attack from above? She was under the impression that Quincies required a bow to shoot off their arrows. Thus she would naturally have the advantage of getting close with her zanpakuto. If she could stop them from gaining distance, then the battle would be in her favor. A naive conclusion. Something she was currently being forced to come to terms with.
As the arrows began to buzz louder above her, Addy racked her brain as she figured out her next move. Keep pushing, or retreat? While she had managed to wound her opponent, Leonie’s counterattack was proving to be quite vicious. For someone who complained about Shinigami always having a trick up their sleeve, Leonie was proving to be quite vexing herself. And this was only the start. Who knew what other plans she had in her pocket?
Ripping her sword from Leonie’s shoulder with a nasty twist, Addy leapt back with a shunpo. She had barely placed her swords in front of her before she was bombarded with Leonie’s arrows. Her blades were slammed with each arrow, one after the other. She was lucky there were only five, yet judging from their power level, she wasn’t sure if she could handle even one. Would her swords withstand the oncoming tide? It was time to find out.
Looking down at her broken zanpakuto, Addy let out a tired sigh. “Fuck.” Her blades were broken. In all honesty, they never stood a chance. She had gotten cocky, so sure of her power that she hadn’t properly examined her opponent. She had done such a thing before, and came out on top. But as for today, it seemed that history would not repeat itself. Instead, she would be forced to come to terms with her weakness.
While her shunpo enabled her to avoid one arrow, her blades were only able to stop three together before breaking. This left her with a single arrow. One that had already pierced through her defenses. Her new wound was near her shoulder, throbbing with the intensity of the sun. If the arrow had hit just a few inches below where it was, Addy wasn’t sure if she would even be alive. With her swords broken and her new wound, the battle was already over. There would be no comeback from this, not with her current skill level.
Thinking was even starting to be a challenge for her. Her head throbbed, be it from the battle or the whiplash from her zanpakuto breaking. She needed to retreat, as much as she hated doing so. Sliding her zanpakuto back into her sheathe, Addy bolted towards a nearby alleyway behind her. Perhaps she could lose her opponent in the streets? They were pretty empty, but perhaps she would be harder to shoot at. Doubtful from the open space above her, but getting Leonie to lose sight of her wouldn’t hurt.

Feeling quite confident in her little maneuver, Leonie did what she could to stand tall and proud. She'd felt that putting up such a fight proved to be quite useful against the girl, especially given the circumstances. She wouldn't've been able to live with herself if she hadn't done what she'd done after provoking the fight.
Though, any sliver of confidence she'd once had would quickly fade upon that blade being ripped from her shoulder. As the weapon was twist, shredding and stretching muscle, Leonie did what she could to follow through with her arrows, but quickly found herself taking a knee with a bloody shout of pain, gripping at her arm. "D-DAMN IT!" She let loose, glaring at the Shinigami with nothing short of daggers in her eyes.
As she watched on, it seemed that Addy took a rather similar blow all things considered. Enough to prompt her to seemingly reconsider. As her weapons were sheathed, and she seemed to bolt, Leonie found herself scratching at the skin on her arm. "D-Damn you," she forced out, "what's wrong, Shinigami? Can't... can't keep up the fight?" She forced out a pained laugh.
Trying her best to stand back up, the girl almost immediately threatened to crumble. Truth be told, her tolerance to pain was not the highest; such an attack, along with a brutal retraction of the blade from her shoulder quickly proved that to her. Though, she felt like she couldn't give up. Not yet. Every fiber of her being told her she needed to continue to fight; to put down the Shinigami that dare threatened one of His Majesty's own. Given her current condition, though? That wasn't happening.
As much as she wanted to push herself further, she couldn't bring herself to give chase. Not now, anyway. Though, she'd remember the Shinigami's face if nothing else. Last thing she was going to have happen was letting this woman live when next they met. For now, it seemed that time was going to be needed for her recovery. Letting out a sigh, the girl took the time she needed in order to steady her breathing.
Post by Addy Kuchiki on May 10, 2024 10:01:14 GMT -5
In order to survive, she ran. Like a dog with her tail tucked between her legs. Embarrassing. Shameful. What had she become? Even now she was still eyeing behind her as she tried her best to gain distance. Was she being hunted down? Would there be more attacks coming at any moment? Her wound throbbed constantly now, sending shockwaves of pain through her body whenever she moved her arm. But the pain couldn’t even compare to the pain she felt in her heart. She had said such big words. So confident in her strength. And now look at her.
Leaning against a nearby alley wall, Addy slid down slowly as her strength left her. Before she could stop it, the downpour of tears began. Putting her face between her legs, she tried to ignore the shame coursing through her body. But how could she? In reality, she had started the fight. And lost. She had become the thing she hated most. Arrogant. Was this all she was truly capable of? Was this what she really was? Was this all she was capable of?
As the tears flowed without end, Addy let out a shuddering sigh. Her life had been so good. Peaceful, fun, exciting. Now it all came to a halt because of this rude awakening. She wasn’t strong enough. No, she wasn't strong at all. She was just a normal run of the mill shinigami like the rest of them. Would her goals be forever out of reach then? Would she die before even accomplishing a single one? The future was uncertain, and all Addy could wish for now was to not live in the present.
