-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 6'0'' | 185lb
Physical Description:
On the most general sense, Aoshi would strike you as a pretty normal guy, specially given he is surrounded by the many extraordinary people of the Gotei 13. He stands at 6ft tall, which is certainly respectable, but nothing extraordinary, and weighs and appropriate 185lbs. He is pretty muscular, but when wearing his Shihakusho or other training clothing, he is the definition of a sleeper build. Many people would be in for a surprise if they watched him take off the top of his uniform, or if they caught him during an early morning run or workout. He is very lean, with muscle definition that makes it look they are almost chiseled from rock, with a V shaped torso and powerful legs, because missing leg-day is a very bad idea. However, since he is usually seen wearing training clothes that do hide a lot of his figure, he will rarely turn anyone's eye with his usual appearance alone.
Now, for the fun part. Aoshi's appearance varies wildly depending on whether he is holding back or not, due to his overall ability, Ruination. While holding back at the specified Kenpachi threshold, he resembles a normal 22 year old. He has black hair kept at a short length so that it will not become a hindrance during his martial arts training, light blue eyes that were inherited from his biological mother--and that was already a big tell that he was adopted--, and his other features are rather pleasant to the eye. While is not incredibly attractive, he can be surprisingly appealing if he puts some effort into his appearance, which does not happen that often, unfortunately. His skin also sports a healthy tan with visible lines from all his hours spent outside training, although he is careful to take good care of his body and will rarely allow himself to get sunburnt.
When not holding back, however, Ruination's cosmetic effects on his body makes his appearance change drastically. His skin turns a sickly ash gray, symbolizing the decay caused by the ability, which would look almost deathly pale to anyone--more so if you have medical expertise. This is complimented by line-like marks resembling tattoos that appear all over his body while he's fighting, very similar to the three line marks on his forearms, courtesy of his encounter with the law. During this state, Aoshi's hair becomes a light shade of crimson, his irises turn yellow, not too different from a Hollow, and his digits acquire the same pigmentation as the line-like marks all over his body.
As far as clothing goes, Aoshi is fairly simple. Either the standard uniform for the Shinigami, modified for the practice of martial arts--since flowing robes can easily get in his way--or belted gis for standard martial arts training and practice. The former, he wears with sandals as is customary, but he'd rather be barefoot for the latter. The level of resilience his body displays makes it so he doesn't really care what he's stepping on, and his overall health and fitness (and overwhelming Spiritual Pressure as a Kenpachi) all do a good way at staving off infections. He rarely shows concern for fashion, and usually requires help dressing up from friends that are more concerned with those things. It's just not his thing.

Overall Personality:
Aoshi is, for all intents and purposes, a pretty good guy. He is mostly friendly with everyone, and rarely goes out of his way to antagonize or belittle anyone. Despite his fears, he actually takes well to socializing with others. His personality is rather upbeat, he is always up for any plans when invited unless he has other obligations, and he tends to be very optimistic when dealing with his issues. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, he would rather do something to change whatever parts of himself he does not like. Get on good terms with Aoshi, and you will be able to count on him for anything you need. He is appreciative of good exercise, good food, and good company, and prefers outdoor encounters to just sitting somewhere for coffee or tea. He has completely sworn off alcohol, since that could lead to him losing control, but he still thoroughly enjoys a good party--and can even be reckless at times! He'd be the type to jump onto a karaoke and sing his heart out, even if it's the most embarrassing song you can think of.
Now, while all the above is usually true, he can be quite the doormat at times. Aoshi shies away from confrontation, even more so if it escalates physically. Not because he knows he might lose or get hurt, but because he's afraid of what might happens if he does accept the battle. As such, he rarely stood for himself, and let other people in the Academy get away with bullying him ever so slightly, let his superiors talk down to him a bit too much, and generally would always prefer to turn the other cheek. This left him with the reputation that he was a weakling back at the Academy, so much so that his teachers considered failing him in different fields--Kido aside, since he naturally sucks at it, of course. He also isn't bookish or book-smart, and is notoriously bad at memorizing theoretically complex information. While far from illiterate, he is definitely not material for Squad 12.
Once he gets into fighting, he loves it. He loves the feeling of being in complete control of his body, of using his strength, of feeling his heart thrumming in his ears. For him, the sensation of battle can only be described as exhilarating, and it's because of this that he takes martial arts so seriously: because they channel and temper that passion, turning it into something more manageable, more serviceable to his line of work as a Shinigami. Unfortunately for him, this love for battle is turned up to eleven when fully under Ruination's influence on his spirit, which leads to blood knight tendencies that are very difficult to quell. Examples include seeking for strong opponents, allowing a foe to release, stop being able to hold back under the threshold dictated by the technique... in short, he becomes far more difficult to deal with when in that state. The more posts he spends under it, the more the tendencies will be accentuated, until he becomes a full-blown menace once it reaches the limit. Once all out, he will not takeEven so, he rarely taunts the opponent, and will instead praise their skill or ability as he fights them off.
In his normal state, Aoshi hates that personality change whenever Ruination is activated, but this is one of the many things that he needs to learn he cannot control. Instead, it would be better for him to just accept that side, recognize when it might emerge, and then put the stops so it doesn't happen. The problem is, once he gets going... well, the prospect of a fight is too enticing isn't it? The worst part is that it's not two separate personalities, it's him being fully aware of how he gets, and actively taking steps to avoid it until it's too late to do so.
- Braggarts: Aoshi can't stand those who continuously feel the need to remind others about how strong they are--even more so if they are full of shit--as if that would make them more important. He knows full well that strength is not the end-all-be-all, and that irrational confidence is something incredibly dangerous. It's important to note that making an occasional demonstration will not immediately make him dislike you; but obnoxiously making a habit of it will.
- Kido: His complete inability to learn and cast even the most basic of Kido, owing to their lack of fine Reiatsu control because of their nature as a Kenpachi, has made Aoshi particularly bitter toward the magical arts of the Shinigami. Being on the receiving end of a lot of laughs when failing those lessons at the Academy did nothing to change his opinion on the craft, although he does respect those skilled enough to make proper use of it.
- Studying: Since he'd rather be outdoors than cooped up at a desk with a boring volume or two, Aoshi had a particularly hard time with the more theoretical aspects of becoming a Shinigami. This, coupled with his inability to use Kido, made him a particularly bad candidate for graduation. How he managed to pull to his last year and complete it, he does not even know, and frankly, it is a miracle he's sure to never be able to pull off again.
- Overly spicy food: Who was the idiot that seasoned this dish? It tastes like fire! As a rather opinionated cook, Aoshi thoroughly hates foods that are spicy for the sake of being spicy. What's the point, to open a hole in your stomach? To have a bad time at the toilet hours later? To impress someone? Spicy should be a touch on a main dish, not its main feature.
- Alcohol: Alcohol suppresses one's inhibitions, potentially opening the door for you to do things you'd normally be too scared to do. For some, it may be loosening their tongue or giving them false courage. For Aoshi, this might very well result in them accidentally harming others because of that lack of control over his own body. As such, he has completely sworn off drinking, even if he would most likely be the friendliest drunkard around. This does not mean he will discourage the use of alcohol or judge those who drink, however.
Likes:
- Domestic animals: Aoshi has always enjoyed the company of common household pets, and just melts when seeing a cat and specially a dog. There's something comical about seeing a man built like a mountain playing with a puppy. Unfortunately, he tends to keep himself away from them in fear that he might slip and crush them through sheer strength. Hopefully in time, he will gain enough control to leave this fear into the past!
- Being outdoors: Aoshi can't really stay inside for too long of a time, and would rather step out into the outside world, even by himself. Be it training, enjoying a good meal or relaxing for the rest of the day, he is the type of guy to leave the barracks behind and sleep on a hammock under the stars, even when he feels sick or when he has been injured. Due to this, hospital stay is a big no to him, which is a huge problem for Squad 4. They may be able to handle him now, but what about later? Who's going to be the brave soul to force him to rest for the appropriate periods?
- Women: as a straight male, Aoshi appreciates the charms of the opposite sex, and enjoys flirting as much as the next guy. He will tease someone he's interested in at the first opportunity and will happily continue the back and forth dance if chemistry happens to spark with the recipient of his attentions, but he is quick to take note when someone rejects him. If anything, he will take it in stride, even making a joke out of it. All in good sport, of course, nothing passive aggressive. As a note, his fear of his own strength will make him recoil if someone does indeed get closer to him, so it's kind of easy to turn the tables on his teasing if you know which buttons to push.
- Martial arts: Martial artists hone their skills and acquire immense control over their bodies by entering communion with them on a daily basis. They may very well hold the key to allow the Kenpachi to gain better mastery over his own strength. As such, Aoshi greatly respects both these arts and anyone who practices them to some degree, and seeks to become better at them himself.
- Food: and all that relates to it. Aoshi needs to eat lots in order to maintain himself, since he needs far more fuel in the tank to function that most people due to his sheer strength. As such, he is very appreciative of food and does not really shy away from trying new things; he has even become an expert cook over the years because of it. Still, it almost doesn't seem like he enjoys his food, since he eats at lightning fast speeds. Granted, this is necessary or else anyone else would still be at the table waiting for him to finish his massive portions.
- Going all out: Given the rest of his personality, you might be surprised at this particular like. It's something he's not proud about, something he hates about himself, in fact. Going all out, finally being able to drop all restraints and just let go of all inhibitions is a feeling that is not only almost completely foreign to him, it also gives him the ultimate high. This is not unlike someone drinking one night and feeling like a superhero throughout their inebriation only to wake up the next morning and cringe at the thought of what they did during those past hours.
Flaws:
- Afraid of his own strength: Aoshi often downplays himself as an under-average fighter due to his fears that they might break someone. This prevents him from having a full grasp on his all-out abilities, at least for the time being. Perhaps this will change in due time, as he continues to gain experience as a Shinigami.
- Stepford Smiler: Aoshi has the very bad habit of keeping his suffering within and dealing with it in silence. When someone feels he might be sad or upset about something, his very first instinct is to brush it off and insist he's okay, even when he's not. Regardless, he faces life with a smile, but not with the optimism of someone who is confident in himself; the complete opposite, in fact, as he's actually trying to fool himself. Of course, this often leads to Aoshi keeping things bottled, which will explode at one point or another... and a Kenpachi exploding is something we really don't want to see, do we? Knowing this, he may take some periods to cool off or unleash his frustrations, but by himself. Catch him during those times, and you might see him actually being truly vulnerable for once.
- Restless: Aoshi can't really stay put and remain idle for too long before he acts. Thus, he can get a little impatient during any customs such as ceremonies that require him standing still for a long time. It's common to see him fidgeting, shifting his weight from one foot to another, or sighing as ways to cope with the slowly building stress.
- Bad patient: Owing directly to the above, Aoshi is one of the best inpatients you could possibly have at your hospital. Unable to stay put and rest without exercising behind his nurses' backs, becoming fidgety and grumpy when cooped up in a white room for too long, and thoroughly hating anything that involves medical needles, to the point that at higher tiers of Strength, he will actively flex to prevent those from breaking into his body. He will insist that he's alright and okay, which is nothing short of reckless behavior, and often needs someone to keep him in line, one way or the other.
- Formalities: Aoshi has none of the graces a socialite. He is straight-forward and honest, but that rarely bodes well in those velvet-glove environments that nobility and the like are so fond of. As such, you can expect him to do or say something inappropriate during the more formal events of the Gotei 13 just because he feels like it's the correct thing to do. He also tends to take far too many liberties with his superiors, even with those he does not know, which may end up in prompt punishments for those that don't take kindly to this sort of thing. This does not mean he will actively be an asshole, just that he can be polarizing to those that expect certain customs to be followed.
- Blind rage: It is very hard to invoke Aoshi's rage. Very, very hard. However, to those who manage to do so, he becomes someone incredibly vindictive, willing to go all out after finding something that, for once, he does want to break. Unfortunately, he can get so caught in the power high and his feelings of hatred that he might get tunnel vision and end up hurting those he cares just to see the object of his fury die a painful death.
Habits:
- Willfully Weak: Aoshi has come to hate his power after he raged and killed the assassination team that took his adoptive father. Since then, he takes precautions not to fight so he can maintain Ruination ineffective. Even when he gains further control and experience with his power, it's just a safety measure to bring himself some peace of mind. This also extends beyond battle. In physical contests, he will often let the other part win, and even if they could easily beat him, he will still hold back, giving the win without officially conceding... unless they specifically tell him otherwise and are very persistent about it
- Martial arts drilling Since one has to put one's money where one's words are, Aoshi would be a hypocrite if he did not practice the martial arts he seeks to become better at. Thus, he can be seen training in the mornings before hitting the showers or any cold body of water, and at times in the afternoons if there are no tasks on his plate. This the main reason why he has tan-lines, since he rarely wears his Shihakusho when drilling.
- Big eater: for Aoshi, a normal-sized portion means something completely different than for most other people. He seems to have a black hole for a stomach, or a furnace that just consumes everything that has the misfortune of looking delicious in front of the big guy (and that is mostly anything that's edible and can be cooked). He will shy away from eating raw or undercooked food, of course, as health is very important.
- Meal prepping: Aoshi often had to make meals for himself in the past, and he maintained the habit throughout his transition to becoming an Academy Student. With some more years of experience under his belt, Aoshi has actually become quite a skilled cook, and prepares meals for himself on a weekly basis. He does not mind spending his limited funds on it; a good diet is the basis for a good Shinigami.
- Dancing: when something good happens, he is prone to busting out some simple dance moves to express his happiness. This is nothing overly dramatic, just a pep in his step, life on his hips, some extra movement on his shoulders... You'd think this would be a source of embarrassment, but if seen by anyone, he'll actually lean into it and maybe even pull the other person into the same little dance, silly as it may be. While he has no formal knowledge of the, perhaps in the future he might want to learn?
Fears:
- Losing control: Ties in directly to his Willfully Weak habit. After nearly killing his childhood friend during a childish spat because of his overwhelming strength, as well as being reminded of that deed when beating the assassins that sought to murder him to an inch of their lives, Aoshi has been deathly afraid of his own power. Losing control could lead to him injuring someone he cares about, which is something he will not go through again.
- Claustrophobia: a natural result of Aoshi loving being outdoors is that he does not do well in closed spaces. While he can manage with normal rooms, spaces that are too tight for comfort such as an MRI will send him absolutely reeling, and he will do anything in his power to break free. The fact that he's a big guy only makes this worse. In fact, a recurring nightmare is him being unable to move, and caught between two walls with no hope of escape. Just the thought of it makes his heart race, and not a the good way.
- Becoming para/tetraplegic: even while being careful of his own strength, Aoshi enjoys making use of all the abilities and possibilities his body gives him. Jumping, running, swimming, fighting, you name it; as long as it's a physical activity, he loves it. That is why he would not know what he would do if he were to ever become confined to a wheelchair or a bed; in fact, he would rather die than being forced to live the rest of his life that way.
Goals:
- Become a master martial artist: It's simple. Aoshi loves martial arts for many reasons, so it's only natural he would want to become one of their best practitioners. He will diligently train and seek advice from more experienced mentors if it means getting closer to that dream.
- Gain full mastery over himself: While he does not know if this is possible, Aoshi wants to gain full control over his abilities. He wants to be able to choose who to cut and who to spare without fearing he will mistakenly direct that strength toward the wrong place. While he does not know exactly what he needs to do to accomplish this goal, becoming a proper martial artist might be the very first step in that journey.
- Find a proper rival: Aoshi lives in a world of cardboard. He fears he might break something at all times. But if there was someone able to trade blows evenly with him, even as he continues to grow in power, then perhaps he would not have to be so careful. He would be more confident knowing that, no matter what, someone can handle and beat him even at his strongest.

-Powers-
Fighting Style:
Let us begin with a general breakdown, and say that Aoshi's fighting style revolves entirely around the use of his body. This means that martial arts and Hoho are his go-to abilities, the ones he relies on the most, and the ones he feels most comfortable with. While instructed in Zanjutsu and Kido throughout his years in the Academy, he ran into some complications incorporating either of those into his fighting style. For one thing, using the swords feels clunky and unnatural to him, as if he was waving around a cumbersome stick rather than letting the sword become an extension of his body. Ironic, considering how his physical attributes should allow him to wield it with far more ease than many of his peers, but this is just how things go. This means he really only uses his Zanpakuto to purify Hollows or send Plus to Soul Society via Konso, little to no actual fighting is done via the sword--in fact, he will often use it when he wants to hold back, rather than go to his fists. Considering what his overall does, this is definitely advisable.
As for Kido, he gave up on them after a few months of practice that ended up with multiple Byakurai blowing up in his face, despite the spell not being supposed to explode in the first place. His lack of Reiatsu control does not allow for these complex spells, and while he may attempt to learn a few after his student years, the end result is always the same.
Thus, Aoshi's options have become very limited, but it also means that he excels at these few things that he actually can do. He is fast, and hits strong. These qualities turn him into a sort of lightning bruiser, only limited by the amount of time that a Kenpachi is able to fight all out without their bodies breaking down on them. His bloodthirsty, more savage personality when he becomes afflicted by Ruination will lead him to create a martial art style of his own known as Massacre Demon [Ōma - 鏖魔]. Massacre Demon revolves around striking techniques that make full use of the entropy-induced decay effects to not just strike the opponent's most vital areas, but to tenderize and turn those that are not into weak spots that can also be hit for major damage. These techniques range from barrages that seek to apply the decay to the target as quickly as possible, and heavier hits that can not just break a healthy foe, but thoroughly destroy those that have already been afflicted by Ruination.
Zanpakutou Appearance: Aoshi's Zanpakuto is nothing to write home about, and will most likely never be, considering the lack of communication between it and the user. It's just the most standard issue katana, 4ft in length, without any decorations whatsoever on the scabbard or the hilt. The guard is squared, simple but resilient, and accomplishes its function with little to no flourishes. The blade is nothing special to hit home about, perhaps because Aoshi's potential resides on his fists, and the spirit within has long since given up in communication with their wielder because of it--hence the bland, boring appearance. Aoshi usually wields it tied to the right side of the Shihakusho's belt while on duty, but it can--and is--usually dismissed and/or relegated to his back whenever he's properly fighting.

Kenpachi Ability: Ruination
Aoshi's Spiritual Pressure is a representation of death itself, corruption, rot and the decay of things: entropy, in a single word. To be more precise, the theme of his power would be 'entropy acceleration'. Cinematically, this is represented in multiple ways in an growing area around Aoshi. Cinematically, spiritually weak beings (never RPCs) in a 100ft area around him will see their injuries, such as cuts, scraps or bruises, increase in size and gravity. Flesh and bones ache with strain, skin dries up, etcetera. Physical and spiritual matter will see any imperfections slowly take over: stone slowly turns to dust, metal rusts, wood rots and moulds, the grass and plant-life around him wither. Ruination also causes Aoshi to shift in appearance and personality, as described earlier, as the ability turns him into a counduit of decay and destruction.
How does this play in a fight?
Aoshi's physical touch on an opponent cause the natural effect of entropy decay effect to greatly accelerate, further weakening the foe's body and causing an increase in severity of previous injuries around the impact area. This is easily noticeable by the zone in particular becoming grayer and grayer, with its colors losing vividity. The skin cracks a bit, too. Under the effects of entropy, the opponent's physical defenses are also made more brittle, and injuries increase in severity: minor cuts don't close and become deeper, leading to grievous wounds; fatigued muscle fibers snap, bones with partial fractures break completely. This allows Aoshi to overpower defenses through relentless assault.
While the opponent retains their physical Strength, each contact with Aoshi will cause this stat to be treated as 5% lower of their maximum, but only when defending against a physical attack (does not apply to OS clashes). barrage/multi-hit techniques will see this amount double. Note that Massacre Demon techniques may have a different rate of reductions (contingent on approval for each), as the style was conceived to make full use of Ruination. These reductions are cumulative, but reset when Aoshi starts holding back again. If he won't stop going all out, the opponent must remain untouched by Aoshi for at least three posts of combat to purge the decay effect. Items/defensive powers or Releases that make contact with Aoshi's body will see their durability is directly cut by this ability in the same way, but at twice the rate; this durability is not refreshed if Aoshi starts holding back again. Of course, this includes any items he himself holds, which will rapidly decay due to prolonged contact with him. Thus, Aoshi can't physically hold an item for more than 2 posts without it breaking.
Since the enemy's body becomes weaker and frail, techniques that are taxing or have adverse effects on the foe's body will further strain them. This will lead to injury if their durability goes under the required Strength threshold for use. However, they will never be locked out of using them if they so desire. For example if a technique requires 400 Strength, it would injure the user's body if the stat would be considered as 380 defensively due to this ability. As Ruination also affects spiritual matter, long lasting spiritual techniques in contact with Aoshi's body (such as Bakudo) will wither and decay at a much faster rate, making it easier for him to break free of them. Hierro also suffers greatly from Ruination's effects, reducing the number of posts required for adjustment by 3 per hit (multi-hits do not add any extra for this purpose). Techniques like Cero or Bala that hit the foe to cause damage and then disperse are too fast in their effect to be weakened by Ruination.
Now, how can you stop Ruination, other than by not getting hit?
Another added drawback is that Aoshi's personality change makes him far more unstable and difficult to deal with, going as far as to attack his allies if they get in the way of a good battle. He may even attack them if he feels unsatisfied with the brawl. This personality effect does not go away just by lowering his stats back down again, and will require 3 posts of non-combat to be purged entirely. Needless to say, any ally Aoshi touches will be subjected to the same decay effects as an opponent would.
Custom Skills:
Martial arts: Massacre Demon (Ōma - 鏖魔): a strike based martial art, developed by Aoshi over his time as a Shinigami, courtesy of the bloodthirsty personality that emerges when Ruination is going strong. Baptized on Aoshi's description in his arrest report, Massacre Demon revolves around striking techniques that make use of his Kenpachi strength and speed, in order to either apply entropy decay to an opponent at a much faster pace, or finish them off with powerful attacks once they have been 'tenderized', in Aoshi's own words. These techniques are brutal and merciless, conceived to break and destroy the opponent as fast as possible. The style uses arms and legs alike, without priorizing one over the other.
Techniques:
- On hit, any opponent who has been struck can spend a flat amount of Reiatsu to cancel the effects of Ruination on their body. The necessary amount to cancel a 5% debuff will increase with Aoshi's class, and will be increased/decreased by 50 per Class difference with the opponent. The numbers are 5 (Class 8), 25 (7), 50 (6), 75 (5), 100 (4), 125 (3), 150 (2), 175 (1), and 200 (0), with a +/- 50 Reiatsu per Class difference adjustment. For example, with Aoshi at class 4, it would take 100 Reiatsu to block the Ruination effect when taking a single punch if the foe is also class 4, 150 if the foe is class 5, or 50 if the foe is class 3.
- On cast, defensive techniques can be formed at higher Reiatsu costs to undermine Ruination's effects by granting them a spiritual buffer to repel Aoshi's strikes.
- For defensive release overalls, paying the cost of releasing at 1 class higher will negate a total of 15%, up to a total of a 60% Ruination buffer per increased class. This cost can still be paid even if you would overshoot any maximums, (e.g. Shikai could pay an extra 150, 300, 450 or 600 Reiatsu to gain the 15, 30, 45 or 60% buffer respectively, but would still only be class 3). A 60% buffer means Aoshi must, for example, land 12 basic attacks before Ruination will begin to take any effect on it.
- For defensive non-overall techniques, (e.g. Danku or a release technique that creates a shield), paying 20% more for it will grant a 10% Ruination buffer, up to a maximum buffer of 40%. This won't have any effect if Aoshi has a +2 class superiority over the technique. Conversely, the buffer % for the same cost will double if Aoshi has a +2 class inferiority over the technique. Release overall buffers stack with these, but will be consumed first.
- Each level of Damage Recovery helps by adding a permanent buffer on the body of 1.25%, so with a 4, you can fight normally against Aoshi without basic attacks giving you any Ruination decay (wounds worsening still apply), meaning Aoshi can't stack it with ease. However, the skill itself will NOT have any further effects on the places Aoshi strikes, so the skill bearer would recover from that damage normally instead. This means Ruination is still applicable, but only via techniques, and even then it's at a reduced rate.
Another added drawback is that Aoshi's personality change makes him far more unstable and difficult to deal with, going as far as to attack his allies if they get in the way of a good battle. He may even attack them if he feels unsatisfied with the brawl. {Shunpo}Technique Name: Shunpo (Flash Steps)
Class: 7
Technique Type: Hohō
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects:
A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The focal point that determines the basis of this technique is speed. As speed is the main point of the technique, the method is best characterized by how fast one can get from Point A to Point B in the least amount of steps. Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Shunpo can move. Those of little skill in the technique or those who haven't used it for an extended amount of time would obviously be out of practice, causing those individuals to be considerably slower. This requires the use of more steps to move the same distance and become tired more easily in a shorter amount of time. A single step magnifies speed for that step by ten times. Shunpo uses fifty Reiatsu per step. This one is automatically learned in the academy. All Shinigami know this when created. This technique does not take up a technique slot.
How to use technique:
Focus of Reishi around the feet area and launch off into a single blurring step. It is not unlike teleportation in appearance, but it is simply extremely fast movement. It is often used to gain an edge in a single moment of combat or to dodge incoming attacks.

-History-
Birthplace: Seireitei, but left in Rukongai
Current Residence: Academy/Squad 10 Barracks
Memorable Figures:
The Kuzan family: not a family whose name bears any weight or nobility at all. Just a couple who somehow found a newborn Aoshi abandoned in their district of the Rukongai. They have nothing special to them, really; they were just the ones to shower their new child with love and affection.
History:
Aoshi Kuzan remembers very little of his past life, only brief flashes that really don't matter much in the grand scale of things. He was a human make that lived up to 28 years of age before suffering an early death in an unfortunate traffic accident. Unremarkable life, by any means: single, mostly driven by work, few hobbies and fewer friends; a drab and dreary existence courtesy of human society and the instant gratification culture that ended up entombing people like him. Even before he died, he didn't seem to have a single thing to be proud of, nor any remarkable achievements that could've been worthy of mention here. Just a plain, simple man, going at his business quietly until his life was snuffed out.
Life would be very different when he got to the Rukongai. Purified in the Soul Cycle, perhaps after becoming a Hollow, he was reborn as a new being in the Soul Society. Actually raised by a couple in the 45th North district, Aoshi Kuzan was born poorer than richer, but perhaps his life was all the better because of it. He was mostly free to do what he wanted, didn't usually go hungry at nights, and while non-luxurious, his life was definitely enough to be happy. He helped with the family business, knew his neighbors, and could go out to play with the other children.
What he didn't know was that he was not really born to them, and he still doesn't know to this day. Instead, he was the result of a dalliance of one noble house seeking to climb the ranks in Soul Society. The mother, horrified by this development and aware that this could throw a wrench in their plans and her lofty dreams, decided to keep the pregnancy in secret. She would go about her duties normally during the first third of the year, and then feign illness courtesy of her already delicate physical constitution. At least, that's the way it began. As the baby continued to develop inside her, she inexplicably grew weaker and weaker, with her body barely being able to keep itself alive and in one piece due to Aoshi's entropy related ability. She would end up dying when giving birth.
Out of spite, the family got rid of the baby by attempting the kill, leaving the gruesome task to a lesser subordinate to avoid sullying their hands. This one, however, could not bring her heart to it, since the baby was not really guilty of anything. Thus, she ended up dumping him into Rukongai, where the sheer number of people should make him impossible to find. If he survived, he would grow up there, have a chance at life away from all velvet glove politicking and back-stabbing... if he lived. Perhaps not surprisingly, someone actually did take pity on him and took Aoshi in as their only son. These people would be the Kuzan, for whom the baby was nothing short of a happy blessing. He grew up to become not just a healthy boy, but a surprisingly strong teenager, so much so that his adoptive parents could barely believe it. Soon, people around the North 45th were seeing a boy performing feats of strength and agility way above someone his age as he aided the Kuzans' family business with nearly boundless energy. It was a joy seeing Aoshi at work, so much so that word began to get out.
Naturally, the nature of his exploits brought attention to this otherwise unremarkable boy. Since his resemblance to his biological mother was uncanny, it was only a matter of time before some of the family found out that the child was still alive despite the districts of Rukongai being so large... and if they had recognized him, it would not take too long for their main competitors to put two and two together and air the scandalous story. After promptly assassinating the man that had sworn he had killed the baby, they carefully orchestrated riling up and paying a mob to just wreck the family business, pin the blame on a competitor, and have them kill Aoshi while making it look like a vendetta.
Aoshi and his father were not able to stop the mob by themselves, but many people in the district loved the Kuzans, as well as the boy that had become an asset to the community, and thus this attempt was stopped. More drastic measures were determined necessary, and this time it would be trained assassins going after the boy. This time, of course, they would do so in the middle of the night, where none could help, and where they would be indefense. The only target was the boy, but since killing him alone would've raised suspicion, the parents would need to die as well. Thus, Aoshi woke up to the screams of his mother and her father, as the latter blocked the door leading to the boy's room with his body and died because of it.
Aoshi's rage burned white, so he could not put the entire night together piece by piece. However, the official reports state that there were no less than six corpses within the Kuzan's home, not counting the father. He was the only one that had died from stab wounds, from crude knives that were used to keep up appearances--fine weaponry may have raised suspicion, after all. However, the other six had been completely brutalized, turned into bloody paste by what appeared to be his fists alone, as nothing else in the house showed any signs of having being used as a weapon. Said reports also described all corpses being half-rotten despite the fact that only hours had passed since their demise. The damage to house was ignored, thinking it was just old and badly built, but it collapsed not three days later.
The result was that Aoshi Kuzan was arrested and taken into Seireitei custody--not much proof was needed other than the blood splattered all over his body, and the marks on his fists. His mother was taken to the hospital to deal with both wounds that were too large for what had happened to her, and her manic rantings about her son, her husband, and whatever demon or beast that had killed those men--a creature that had smiled with bloodthirsty glee as it decimated the assassination squad.
Aoshi was summarily judged for his crimes, as self defense couldn't justify the full-blown massacre that had taken place in his home. Perhaps more strings being pulled? Who knows, but this certainly was a desired outcome by his biological family. While the prosecution called for a quick execution, the tribunal came up with a better decision. Seeing how he was young, he was marked on the arms to signalize he was dangerous, and so he would never forget his crime. However, he would get a second chance, get to the Shinigami Academy, train to become a Shinigami, put his assets to the service of Soul Society. The amount of untapped potential in Aoshi made him a prime candidate for this role. This would be not too different from being on probation, with a close eye kept on him at all times. Aoshi himself took the offer with little to no consideration, not because it would save him from whatever sentence he would otherwise get, but because after what had happened, he knew he needed to be around people that would be able to stop him if he rampaged again. And where better than the place that had the strongest, bravest souls taking care of all others?
Thus, under the suspicious gaze of the townsfolk that had once called him a good lad, the new Shinigami hopeful made his way to the Academy, where he would live in constant fear of his own strength, taking great care in making sure he never fought anyone outside of basic exercises--thus giving him no understanding of his own power. His lack of mastery in Kido nearly saw him fail, but the rest of his attributes somehow managed to compensate. Now about to graduate, only the future can tell what lies in wait for the well-intentioned, yet dangerous Shinigami.
