Trial For The New Bloods [JT, Chika/Celes]

[Tala Selao]

Tala has recently been struggling with figuring out what to actually do as an official seated officer. While he was only the second lead and seventh seat, he knows he's still expected to assume a certain level of responsibility. Of course what that responsibility was exactly he was still somewhat uncertain about. He's certainly gone on an increased amount of missions and patrols, of which he's mostly been the one leading, since becoming second lead however he's sure that he's expected to do more than just that.

Putting all these worries and concerns aside however, it was a bit of a surprise that he'd been invited over to Squad Ten's barracks by none other than the Squad Ten's Captain herself. He wasn't sure what exactly she wanted or why she'd invite him over however he wasn't going to turn down such an invitation. He'd heard rumors about the legendary strength of Squad Ten's Captain, which apparently almost rivals his own Captain's strength. Someone with that kind of reputation was not a person he would want to upset.

So he quickly made his way to the barracks in a rush as he was already slightly late now, thanks mostly to the paperwork he'd need to fill out since he'd been back from his missions. He had hoped to make a better first impression than this but hopefully she would understand. As he raced his way to the barracks, his mind goes through why she'd invited him over for a spar of all things. Perhaps she wanted to see much he'd grown since the Hell Invasion, hearing that she'd been handling the main threat.

Little to his knowledge, he wasn't the only officer that'd been invited to this little hosted sparring session as another invitation had been sent to a certain member from Squad Six whom he's yet had the pleasure of meeting. However, all this aside he just hopes that he doesn't go too far with his powers, knowing he still needs some practice with controlling his Shikai's abilities.

[Celes Castellanos]

The Tenth Division. Known to some as the Jūbantai, it was the bastion of Soul Society. Serving as its primary defense force, each of its members was prepared to give their all to defend the Seireitei from invaders. Lately, the Division had found itself overworked and pressured by a seemingly endless onslaught of invaders. There was the rowdy Beast-Clansmen, the incursion of Las Noches striking at Shin'ō Academy, even the gates of Hell themselves opened in an attempt to swallow the Shinigami whole.

Despite the harrowing loss of life at times, the Seireitei stood strong. For their efforts, Celes had decided to give her Division a day off. She had the authority to do so. Besides, they had done much to prove themselves lately. Aiding in reparations, fortifying defenses in the far more vulnerable Rukongai and fighting to their very last breath. They had earned themselves a break. As such, the courtyard would not be filled with the sounds of clashing steel and the countless groans of exertion. 

Most of its officers found themselves simply talking. Some read books. Others were having a grand time over a bottle of saké. There were, of course, those that couldn't help themselves. Some would train there Hakuda or Zanjutsu. Celes could even see a few of some attempting to commune with their Zanpakutō through Jinzen. She shook her head and chuckled softly. She'd be sitting atop the roof of the Barracks lounging in the sun. It was more appealing than the heaps of paperwork that continued to sit on her desk. If her Division was to enjoy herself, then why shouldn't she?!

She could sense a subtle shift in the wind. Turning her head to the side, she'd witness the arrival of someone. A Shinigami with bright-red hair whom she recognized immediately. Celes smiled. "Ah Nadia. Welcome back. I presume that all went well?" The woman nodded in return. "Yep, I delivered the messages to Tala Selao of the Third and Chika Hirabayashi of the Sixth as you asked." The Captain was clearly pleased. She clapped her hands together excitedly. "Excellent work, Nadia! Go ahead and enjoy the day off. Everyone else certainly is." 

Celes couldn't help, but grin at the Officer. It wasn't uncommon for her to be uptight. She needed to loosen up a little. With a hint of hesitation, she nodded and hopped off the roof of the Barracks only to be received by a few of her fellow Officers. It warmed her heart. Celes saw her Division as family. They were her brothers and sisters in arms, yes, but they were always more than that. She cared for each one of them deeply. To see them forge bonds with another was such a pleasant development.

Now all she had to do was wait for Chika and Tala. This was not intended to be a formal summon. They could always choose to decline it if they had other things to take care of. Celes simply hoped that Nadia kept out all the fancy embellishments that would make it sound almost forced. Alas, Celes had not given Nadia a reason to share with these two other than a mere spar. Celes had met the two Shinigami at the Sanbantai Mixer. At least... she thought she did? It was a wild night filled with alcohol and other vices that made her forget about the stressors of being a Shinigami. She couldn't remember every single detail all the time! Nevertheless, she'd simply await to see who'd show, closing her eyes as she enjoyed the brilliant sun and the shifting breeze.

[Chika Hirabayashi]

"Hyah! Hup! Haah!"

The foxgirl's voice carried loud throughout the barracks of her squad, swinging her blade with fervor against one of her squadmates. Excited cries of strain and faked conflict carried throughout the air as she continued to make her advance on her foe, backing her attacks with the full power of her blade. She wasn't going to give up, even in some spar like this! Striking up from the ground, and looking to lead into an overhead strike against her partner, Chika smiled when she found that her blade was so perfectly parried.

Drawing back for a moment before taking up another stance, the girl huffed with a smile on her face. "Hah, you've gotten quite strong, Shiro!" She couldn't help but give a compliment where one was due. One of her long-time squad friends had quickly become one of her favorite sparring partners, and one of the few individuals that could keep up with her rather rigorous amount of stamina. Suffice to say, she was impressed. Regardless, though; she refocused herself.

"You're not bad yourself, Hirabayashi!" He quipped, lowering his blade in resignation, "that should be enough for me today. I'm tuckered out, y'know?" Giving her a simple smile, he sheathed his Zanpakutō and placed his hands on his hips. While certainly not advised (especially without a capable healer nearby), the two had taken quite the liking to live sparring. Using a blade made the conflict feel much more authentic. She was glad to see that there was the opportunity to have something like that.

Though, it seemed her attention was going to be cut short. She'd been pulled aside rather quickly by someone from... Tenth Squad? Truth be told, such an encounter wasn't exactly one that she was expecting. Especially given that her spar with Connor and Miranda had been delayed for a small while. Sure, she was a little upset by the fact, but what was she going to do otherwise? With a smile, she read the note she was given. And, as she did? The smile across her face only continued to grow.

Sprinting toward Squad 10 with abandon, Chika continued to trek over toward the barracks as fast as she could manage. She'd been so damned excited to have the opportunity to get another spar in! And, to meet a new officer as well? Lord, she was simply ecstatic. The afternoon was going to be absolutely spectacular, and she wouldn't take anything less as an answer! As she arrived, shouting as loud as she could, Chika made herself rather prominently known (much as she was always doing).

"Chika Hirabayashi, Exalted Bearer of the Starcursed Brand has arrived~!!"

{Level 7: Lucid Dreaming}
Despite being a released stage, Lucid Dreaming isn't technically part of Chika's "release", so to speak. Serving as the black sheep of Yabureta Yume, Lucid Dreaming doesn't actually give Chika any powers. Instead, the activation of Lucid Dreaming simply allows Chika to use Yabureta Yume to cut with her Spiritual Pressure, and suppresses the Bakkōtō's specific Reiatsu Signature. Note that this doesn't suppress Chika's Shinigami signature, but merely hides the fact that the girl is, in fact, a Bakkōtō-wielder. Those that have an amount of Energy Sensory greater than her Spiritual Pressure will be able to see through this illusory dream, but will not be able to tell that Yabureta Yume is a Bakkōtō from just that; an amount of Energy Sensory to be able to read surface thoughts is still required to do so, provided they still have more than her Spiritual Pressure.

Given this stage does not count as a release, Chika is still subject to cutback while wielding Yabureta Yume, and is unable to benefit as though her Bakkōtō had been released, preventing the Life Force to Reiatsu Strength transfer, among other beneficial effects. In return however, releasing this stage costs no Reiatsu or Life Force in order to do, seeing as it's simply giving up a stage of release for little combative effect.

Tala had arrived at the barracks entrance just a little after Chika had dramatically announced her presence to the entire courtyard which he'd noted seemed quite relaxed for the rather busy Defense Squad. Of course he didn't really have a good chance to fully observe what Jūbantai did in their off time as he collided with the exuberant foxgirl from Squad 6. While he'd never met her before, he'd seen her at the mixer and figured she'd seem like an interesting character. He just wished that they'd met another way instead of him running into her.

"Oh jeez, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there and I was in a rush. I should have been more careful. Are you okay?" He quickly apologizes, helping her to her feet if he'd knocked her over with his own entrance or just fussing over her if she hadn't. She'd get a good look at his finely detailed tattoo that covers the right side of his chest and arm as the right side of his slightly oversized shitagi and kosode slipped off just enough to expose them.

She'd also very likely recognize him along with just about everyone else who had attended Sanbantai's mixer as he'd held a rather dazzling and extravagant fire show near the end of the night. Of course he just wanted to help everyone relax and put on a good show for them to all enjoy however the attention that followed afterwards was an unfortunate consequence that he had not foresaw.

If she did make any mention of this, there would be a quick look of regret on his face as he holds back a groan but it's quickly gone and replaced with a sheepish smile as he would then try to change the subject from himself, "So I take it that Captain Shindazu invited you here for a spar as well? I'm a little worried if she does actually plan on sparring with us." If she mentioned the tattoo then she'd also get a somewhat similar reaction to this minus the regretful look.

"Chika Hirabayashi, Exalted Bearer of the Starcursed Brand has arrived~!!"

Alas it seemed that all good things had to come to an end. Celes opened her eyes to look upon the new arrival. It was Chika just as she had remembered her. Those fox ears and tail were quite unique traits for a Shinigami to have. It still made Celes wonder whether the girl was one of the Beast-Clansmen. She couldn't help, but chuckle a little though as the girl made her announcement. Her Division didn't entirely share the same amusement though. A few murmurs arose through the groups. "Bearer of the what?" "Who the hell is she barging in like that?" "Could you be more obnoxious?" Other more seasoned officers couldn't help, but enjoy the showmanship much like Celes.

Soon, however, the entire atmosphere would change. Another Shinigami rushed in and unceremoniously dashed into Chika, presumedly knocking the girl over. There was silence among the Tenth and a few giggles arose among them. It was a good way to ease the tension, as clumsy as it was. Nonetheless, Celes set her sights on Tala. The officer of the Third had put on quite the performance during the Sanbantai mixer. She hadn't an opportunity to converse with him much given the thrills of the night.

As he helped Chika up, the Captain couldn't help, but smile. She sighed. "Well, guess it's time to get up and welcome them." Rising to her feet slowly, the blonde-haired Shinigami stretched and groaned. She almost missed the spot already. Getting to be lazy for a change had its appeal. Nevertheless, the Captain took a few steps forward and hopped down from the roof of the Barracks. Landing gracefully, Celes made her way to the pair at an eager pace. She'd certainly come upon them any moment.

As Tala conversed with Chika, one of the nearby groups was listening in. "So I take it that Captain Shindazu-" Her attention suddenly drifted as she could practically hear Celes' voice echo inside of her head. She shuddered for a moment, turning to Tala. "-worried if she does actually plan on sparring with us." She would then speak softly enough to be heard by the few around her. "Hey, a piece of advice. Try to avoid calling her Captain Shindazu. She hates that. Celes or Captain Celes if you need to be formal. Trust me." She flashed him a quick grin before returning to her group who collectively giggled. 

Drawing nearer, Celes waved her hand with a wide grin on her face. She was practically gleaming. Upon standing a foot or so away from the two, Celes placed her hand upon her waist. "Well met, Tala and Chika. I hope I'm not dragging you away from anything important in your own Squads!" She couldn't help, but giggle. She always liked to build the relationships between herself and others. She was not as close with other Divisions as she was with the Eleventh, but it did not matter. Building bonds was one of her favorite things to do. 

She briefly looked both Tala and Chika up and down. They had their Zanpakutō with them. "Excellent." It seemed that the idea of a spar had gotten across. She turned around and spoke loud enough for Tala and Chika to hear, "Walk with me." Assuming they followed, Celes led them down a path that led to a few spacious training grounds. Some of them were occupied by Shinigami, both of the Tenth and otherwise. Thnakfully, there would be a rather spacious and vacant. "Perfect." She'd turn to face the pair and grinned. "So! What do you two know about my calling you here?" She was curious to see if the two officers had any suspicions.

As her words finished carrying through the squad, she made apt notice of something - or, more accurately, someone - barreling into her from behind. Toppling the girl over, and quickly finding herself on the ground with a thud, Chika immediately fell into a pseudo-state of worry. Just what had happened!?

Turning around to meet the individual that took her down, and smiling as he helped the girl up, Chika patted herself off. She wanted to make sure there was little to no dirt or dust on her uniform after a fall like that; certainly wasn't a way to present toward Captain Shindazu, that was for sure. Listening to Tala's own apology, Chika did nothing more than maintain a smile. She'd address him in a second; first she wanted to make sure she was clean.

"You are quite all right," she spoke, eventually focusing her full attention toward the Shinigami, "it seems every time I leave Sixth Squad's barracks someone's always running into me! I swear, the crazy things that this Brand of mine leads to... Regardless of that! I accept your apology!" As she finished speaking, Chika found her eyes immediately going wide, her ears perking up immediately, and her tail wagging rather quickly. She'd recognized this individual!

"Wait a minute," she spoke, starry-eyed, "you're the one that performed at the end of Third Squad's party recently! Oh my Soul King; it's an honor to have the opportunity to meet you!!" Chika could barely contain her excitement; so much so, that she was already bouncing in place. She'd very quickly fallen in love with that show when it happened, lord only knew she'd hoped that it would've gone on forever! Though, this was not the time to watch in awe as she did; she needed to get a hold of herself!

"S-sorry for that outburst," she spoke, "I'm just... it's really nice to get to talk with you!" Listening to what he had to say thereafter, Chika vigorously nodded her head. "Mhm! Captain Celes invited me here as well! In truth I'm quite excited to have the opportunity to spar with the both of you! Here's to hoping it goes well, right?" Placing her hands close to her chest in a semblance of nervousness, Chika smiled regardless. She wasn't going to let some Captain trouble her!

Speaking of, it seemed that Captain had been approaching. After giving one of the Tenth's a nod in affirmation regarding how Celes preferred to be addressed, Chika turned to face the Captain as she made her way closer. "Oh, believe me, nothing important~!" She chimed, remembering her oh-so-valuable sleep that she could've caught up on later. After all, this wasn't time for rest, this was time for training! Soul King only knew that Chika wasn't about to head back to sleep without a good spar.

Following Celes, presumably alongside Tala, Chika hummed softly after hearing the Captain's words. "Mm, I know you were looking for a spar, correct? Though, I'm certainly curious as to your choice behind inviting both of us! That's not to say that I'm against it or anything, merely that I'm looking forward to having another person to scuffle with~!"

Tala was relieved that the girl didn't seemed to be injured in anyway however again he does his best to hold back a groan after covering the regretful look that had flashed through for just a moment and offer a sheepish smile as the over joyous gal was practically buzzing with excitement after recognizing him. He was starting to really regret having done the whole performance with how many people were starting to recognize him.

He was also somewhat confused by the people actually wanting to meet him, not really sure why, although he wasn't against making new friends he just wish they didn't look at him in any special way as he was no different from them. However that was a worry for later as he gave an appreciative nod to the Tenth for their warning just as he noticed the Captain approaching them. He quickly gives a respectful bow as Chika answered.

He contemplates whether the paperwork he'd been working on could actually be considered important or not as he knew his own Captain wasn't much of a fan of paperwork himself and while Tala knew of the importance of them, he could very much understand why. However he'd been a good Expeditionary Leader and was quickly making short work of his to do list. Still a direct summons by a Captain, even for what seemed to only be just a spar, could probably be a good excuse for putting those papers on the back burner for now.

He doesn't mention any of that as he follows just a few steps behind Chika. He nods in agreement with the Sixth as she'd answered the Captain's question, "I was very much under the same impression although I do wonder as to what type of sparring exercise the Captain of the Defense Squad would like to conduct with us." It wasn't an understatement nor a lie as he was extremely curious, and somewhat praying, that they'd just be doing an exercise similar to what his own Captain would have them run.

As he realizes that it seemed this other lady was also a bit of a sparring nut, he begins to grow a little nervous as he reaches up to rub the obsidian pendant hanging from his neck between his thumb and forefinger, "I will admit though, I don't think I'm a very proper sparring partner. I've only just barely gotten my Shikai and quiet honestly, I haven't really had a chance to properly commune with my Zanpakuto since then." 

Of course Tala was always one to doubt and second guess himself however this time he felt he was rather validated in this instance as it was true. Ever since he'd heard seen what his inner world looked like during the rescue/evacuation mission he'd participated in during the Hell invasion, he's yet to take a moment to sit down and reenter that world once more and speak with the woman he'd met at the hearth of that great hall.

Celes wasn't entirely surprised by their answers. Chika, naturally, answered first. "Mm, I know you were looking for a spar, correct? Though, I'm certainly curious as to your choice behind inviting both of us! That's not to say that I'm against it or anything, merely that I'm looking forward to having another person to scuffle with~!" Celes hummed softly. Then Tala. "I was very much under the same impression although I do wonder as to what type of sparring exercise the Captain of the Defense Squad would like to conduct with us."

She simply smiled at both of them for a moment as she didn't immediately speak up to respond. It was Tala who would reveal a little nugget of information. "I will admit though, I don't think I'm a very proper sparring partner. I've only just barely gotten my Shikai and quiet honestly, I haven't really had a chance to properly commune with my Zanpakuto since then." The Captain's eyes widened for a moment and then laughed boisterously. As she composed herself, the Captain walked forward and placed her hand upon Tala's shoulder.

"I wouldn't go so far as to say all that. Shikai is only one link in the chain of a Shinigami. Besides, it is an accomplishment. Even if it takes someone a hundred years to finally develop their Shikai, they should be proud of it. It's one of the first steps to forging a bond with your Zanpakutō." She winked at him and grinned shortly after. That is, however, a great segue into why I called the both of you here." She'd take a step back and briefly take a look at them. Drifting her eyes up and down, she'd grin.

"Yep! You two will be perfect for what I had in mind!"She couldn't help, but giggle for a moment. "As you two know, the Hell invasion was devastating. I believe... we have grown lax in our defense. That's on me. I should've helped to take appropriate countermeasures so this could all be avoided." It was clear as Celes spoke on the topic that it was a source of shame and more than a little guilt. Nevertheless, this wasn't about her. "So, I have taken it upon myself to help foster strength in our lower ranks." 

Her eyes drifted idly between the two Shinigami. Chika was an Unseated Officer of the Sixth. Hot-blooded and always eager to fight. She could use that. On the other hand, Tala was a Seventh Seat of the Third. Clearly recognized for some level of achievement and earning his Shikai, he had self-esteem problems. "Also good, but we'll need to work on that last one." She hummed contently. "Now then. Normally I'd have you face off against one of my Division, but I gave them a break today and others are conducting their own training. Your opponent for todays' training... will be me."

Celes expected some level of shock, at least from Tala. She expected Chika to be more than excited. After all, their spar with Connor and Miranda has been put on hold until further notice. Facing a Captain was no easy feat. Nevertheless, Celes considered it a necessity. "Now before you freak out, there's a method to my madness." She paused, collecting her thoughts. "We need more Bankai users in Soul Society. These threats... these attacks are becoming more frequent. I recently had to face the Primera Espada and her companion at Shin'ō Academy. An attack this deep into the heart of the Seireitei has me worried to say the least."

She'd pause for a moment to allow it to sink in. Naturally, Celes had her own reasons for wanting to foster more Bankai users. She herself was a threat with her Inner Hollow. She feared the day that she would possibly be discovered and cast out or worse yet, destroy a Rukongai District. "The plan is for the both of you to further your bond with your Zanpakutō. A great way to do so is by utilizing your Shikai and fighting alongside your partner." Celes firmly believed this. She would, however, throw Tala a bone a well since it seemed to appeal to Chika quite a bit more. "To solidify that bond, I'll go through the Jinzen ritual with the two of you." Her eyes darted over to Tala with a smile. "Perhaps that'll give you a chance to commune with your Zanpakutō."

Hearing what Tala had said, Chika nodded her head along with the Seventh Seat's words. She couldn't quite relate to the sentiment, given she hadn't had a Zanpakutō. Though, part of her wondered if she could commune with her Bakkōtō? It was hard to say. For as long as she could reasonably remember, she'd simply just given it a piece of herself - her own force of will - in order to empower the weapon. Her own Shikai and Bankai, some might've considered. Though, it was truly hard to tell if this was the same as what Shinigami went through.

Though, she couldn't help but smile as Celes had talked about what Shikai meant for a Shinigami. After all, that was all she really had to go off of when it came to the abilities given to her by the illegal weapon. It was truly difficult to say whether or not such a weapon was going to compare to that of a normal Shikai and/or Bankai - especially when it came to self-refinement - but she'd have to see. There was likely going to be an opportunity to show what she could do here, but just what did something like that entail? It was difficult to say.

Nodding her head along with the Captain, Chika interjected when she had the opportunity. "Oh, yeah! I was still in Shin'ō when that attack happened, I'm glad everything's gone well since then! From what I heard, you were quite the line of defense against their leaders, Captain Celes!" Chika's tail swayed from side to side. "I can't wait to have the opportunity to be on the front lines like that!" In truth, she meant every word of it. Nothing excited her more than the prospect of fighting back a large-scale attack from Hell, the Human World, or more importantly, Hueco Mundo. She wasn't sure she'd ever get that time, but a part of her could dream.

As the captain continued to speak, and made mention of the fact that the two were going to be fighting against her, Chika's ears shot to the sky. "Really~!?" she squeaked, very evidently unable to hold back her excitement, "I've been waiting for this moment for I can't tell you how long! It's been like years since we planned that fight with Vice Captain Frost!" Chika's inability to tell time made itself known once more.

Putting a finger to her chin, the foxgirl found herself pondering just what the Captain had said. 'More Bankai users', huh? She thought to herself, boy, do I have a show for her in that case! Smiling triumphantly while she spoke, Chika nodded her head. She was up to the challenge that Celes had posed. Though, one rather noteworthy road-bump made itself very quickly known; the idea of Jinzen.

"O-Oh!" Chika forced out, "u-um... Jinzen doesn't really work for me because... um... the Starcursed Brand! Yeah, it prevents me from being able to commune with my Zanpakutō! So, I can't actually perform Jinzen." Chuckling to herself, Chika took a moment to step aside. "I've no problem watching you two and learning, though!" Assuming Tala and Celes took the time to run through the ritual, Chika would've gladly sat down, and simply studied the two of them. If nothing else, this would've been a good exercise on how to pass when it came to performing said ritual.

Tala's eyes go wide for multiple reasons. Having been a part of the Hell Invasion, Tala was surprised to hear the Captain say that she felt their forces had been lacking and while he wasn't sure how true that was, he felt they had repelled the force quite well given what the circumstances were. However she then follows this up with the casual mention of how she'd fought not just an Arrancar but the top Arrancar that Las Noches had to offer. He wasn't sure who that was but he was informed enough on how the Espada's hierarchy works to understand the severity of this, especially since it had been within the Seireitei.

However what seemed to be the most surprising of all was the implication that the Captain seemed to think that Tala and Chika were ready for Bankai, which was very much not true for himself. Of course he'll gladly accept her offer of teaching them Jinzen as it was something he still needed to learn however he'd need years mastering his Shikai before he felt ready to try and obtain Bankai. He understood her meaning and sentiment for wanting more Bankai users within Soul Society's ranks however he doesn't see himself being one of them anytime soon.

As Chika spoke up, Tala was surprised to learn that the Captain and the fox-girl had previously planned to spar with Vice Captain Frost, another person he's yet to meet. Still Tala was somewhat impressed and slightly worried by the fox-girl's eagerness for a spar with such high-ranking and powerful members of Soul Society. Tala has a hard time finding the drive to spar with his juniors let alone someone above him. Again, the only reason he was here was out of courtesy and respect for the Captain.

Once Chika was done speaking, finding it surprising and making a mental note to ask more about this Starcursed Brand she spoke of if she was willing to, he offers a bow to the Captain, "Despite how I feel, I will at least try and do what I can to give you a proper challenge Captain. I'd hate for my own to hear that I'd embarrassed and showed a poor demonstration of Third Squad's capabilities."

He then rises up and offers a rather sheepish smile, despite the conflicting feelings within him, as well as the many thoughts rolling around in his head, "And thank you. I'd been meaning to learn Jinzen for some time now but I hadn't found or thought anyone to teach me" It didn't matter how he felt or thought, he should be respectful and grateful for this opportunity as not many likely get them. Besides he could still learn what he could while he was here and make the most out of this experience.

[Celes Castellanos]

As usual, Chika seemed to have nothing but adoration and respect for the upper echelons of the Soul Society. Her infectiously energetic attitude seemed to drive her passion as Celes revealed herself as their opponent. "Really~!?" Celes simply nodded. In truth, Chika's reaction really didn't surprise her all that much. "I've been waiting for this moment for I can't tell you how long! It's been like years since we planned that fight with Vice Captain Frost!" Celes blinked for a moment. Once the surprise wore off, she chuckled. "Actually it's been a week... at best, but hey. Who's counting?" 

By comparison, Tala's reaction was more understandable. "Despite how I feel, I will at least try and do what I can to give you a proper challenge Captain. I'd hate for my own to hear that I'd embarrassed and showed a poor demonstration of Third Squad's capabilities." Celes frowned a little at first at his continued lack of confidence. Shortly after, though, he'd show some spark and determination. At least the passion of Captain Tsuyoshi seemed to rub off on the Shinigami a bit.

Celes tapped her shoulder for a moment. "Just to clear something up, I don't expect you to obtain Bankai in a day. To achieve Bankai requires incredibly mastery of self and most importantly, time. As I said, Shikai is an excellent first step." She'd smile briefly. "As for posing a proper challenge... all I ask for is your best. If your best isn't good enough, that's okay. We'll dust you off and try again." Celes, if nothing else, had a very encouraging attitude. She believed in failure, but she always thought it should be learned from. Integrated into the greater whole. 

As the Captain brought up Jinzen, however, it seemed once again that the two would have wildly different reactions. This time, though, they were in reverse. Chika was the apprehensive one. "u-um... Jinzen doesn't really work for me because... um... the Starcursed Brand! Yeah, it prevents me from being able to commune with my Zanpakutō! So, I can't actually perform Jinzen." Celes raised an eyebrow for a moment. "I still have no idea what that is..." Suffice to say, this would be complicated. A relation with a Zanpakutō was typically achieved through Jinzen. She supposed that it wasn't impossible to build one through strictly Jinzen alone, but to be completely incapable of communicating with a Zanpakutō? That was beyond strange. She'd get back to that later since Chika was at least willing to watch and learn. 

Then there was Tala. "And thank you. I'd been meaning to learn Jinzen for some time now but I hadn't found or thought anyone to teach me." The Captain simply nodded and smiled. "No worries. It's been an invaluable skill, in my experience. Not only can you learn a great deal more about your Zanpakutō this way, but it gives you a place to talk away from prying eyes." As she spoke though, there'd be a hint of melancholy in her voice. Since Yunorashi was brutalized by her Inner Hollow, Celes found it more and more difficult to enter her Inner World. Even when she could, sometimes Yunorashi wouldn't be around. While she rarely experienced the solace of her Inner World anymore though, she could at least pass it on to others. 

She clasped her hands together. "Excellent! Well, we'll tackle Jinzen at the end then." Celes moved away from the pair, establishing a bit of distance between herself and the officers. "As I said before, one of the best ways to foster a bond with your Zanpakutō Spirit is by using your Shikai." Celes sighed and crackled her neck from side to side. With a bit of a hop in her step, the girl faced down the two Officers. "So then, now for the rules." Bring her her hand beneath her Haori, Celes pulled out... two bells. 

As they moved, the two bells let out a slight jingle. "This is your objective." She did expect a little confusion for a moment, but she'd elaborate shortly. Before did though, the Captain tied the two bells to the front of her waist along her Shihakusho. They'd be somewhat covered by her Haori, but the jingle accompanying her gentle movements would assure both Tala and Chika that they were still there. "Simply put, your goal is to get these bells off my person. You can use any strategies you want. If you feel the need to use Shikai, you may do so. As long as you get these bells, it really don't matter what you do." She'd close her eyes and smile brightly for a moment. Her next words would be anything but positive. "I assure you two, though. If you aren't willing to kill me, there's no way you're going to get these bells." 

It would probably seem rather shocking to anyone involved as Celes spoke of it so nonchalantly. She needed to see the depth of their abilities. They only way to do so was by having them unleash their full abilities. The training grounds of the Tenth were far apart enough that they'd have quite a bit of space to play around with. That being said, Celes stared at Tala for a moment. His energy was... overwhelming. It eclipsed her own by a long shot, but it was rough. It reminded her of both Miranda and Connor. Celes could sense brief bursts of excitement from Chika, but her reiryoku was fairly stable. The question was if her "Starcursed Brand" would inhibit her from developing a Shikai. That was yet to be seen in a few short moments. "Well, you may begin whenever you are ready."

[Chika Hirabayashi]

Listening to what Tala had to say, Chika couldn't help but feel a little upset about her lack of ability to assist in the matter of Jinzen. Given she had no experience on the matter, there really wasn't much she could've done. She didn't like feeling like dead-weight in that regard. "Don't worry, Tala," she started, "I'm sure it'll come quite quickly in no time~!!" If nothing else, she was going to do what she could in order to maintain a positive attitude about the whole situation.

Not long after Celes had mentioned that Jinzen would be at the end of their training session, Chika let out a soft sigh of relief. If nothing else, she was grateful for the opportunity to put that off, even if just for a moment. After that however, it seemed that the Captain had started to talk about the assignment that her and Tala were going to have! Perking her ears up, and wagging her tail, Chika's attention focused toward the Captain as she spoke. It seemed that the Captain had pulled a pair of small bells from her Shihakkushō. Just how had she done that? The rogue took a moment to ponder. She hadn't heard any ringing thus far. That was... Celes had been quite impressive to have hidden something like that.

Regardless, the Captain tied them to her waist, and continued to explain. The two had to secure the bells from Celes in order to complete their exercise. Seemed simple enough on paper, but given the Captain had been, well, a Captain, Chika quickly realized that this was going to be anything but easy. A statement that only made itself ever prevalent as Celes had spoken those rather concerning words; "I assure you two, though. If you aren't willing to kill me, there's no way you're going to get these bells."

They needed to what? Shooting Tala a fairly concerned glance, and moving her attention back toward Celes, Chika did what she could to take a deep breath. This was not going to be easy. "Understood," she spoke, almost losing her characteristic energy, "if that's what it takes..." Slowly drawing her blade, Chika pointed the sword of starlight toward Celes. If going all-out was going to be a necessity, then she'd damn-well try to do exactly that!

"Fight for a brighter future, Yabureta Yume!"

As her words finished, and her sword quickly began to collapse in on itself like a budding supernova, her weapon eventually changed shape into that of a polearm; a naginata with the same starlight blade, to be specific. Taking up a stance, and taking a deep breath to prepare herself for what was to come, Chika turned back toward Tala, and then back to Celes. "I swear to you, Celes, that I'll grab that bell!" With a smile, she glanced back to the Seated Officer. "And, I swear to you, Tala, that we'll succeed on this assignment!!"

{Level 4: Transcendent Oathkeeper}
Upon unlocking Level Four, Chika has reached a point at which she'll use Yabureta Yume's abilities more frequently. Serving as her Shikai guise, Transcendent Oathkeeper's activation is usually preceded by a fake Shikai callout; "Fight for a brighter future, Yabureta Yume!" As one can expect from something masquerading as a Shikai, Transcendent Oathkeeper comes with a change in form. Now appearing as a naginata of sorts, Yabureta Yume utilizes the girls' skill in Katana in order to determine her proficiency with this new form. Additionally, the amount of Essence of Dreams earned from landing a strike is increased by 10, totaling to 30 Essence of Dreams per hit.

Upon activating this stage, Transcendent Oathkeeper allows Chika to draw upon her hopes for the future by making an oath to motivate her and bolster her chances of attaining the desired outcome. By locking down a Fragment of Heaven per Oath she makes, spending said Fragment and reducing her maximum number by 1 while an Oath is active, she is able to declare a statement aloud, binding her fate to that potential future. Examples of Oaths include "I swear to you, I will protect you!" or "I swear to my friends in Soul Society, I will return home!" Any action taken to progress toward such an outcome will automatically grant Chika Essence of Dreams as though she had landed a strike against a foe.

Naturally, there are some stipulations as to what counts as an Oath. For starters, every Oath that Chika makes must be shouted aloud, and follow the same format; "I swear to XXXX, I will XXXX!" While the desired outcome is fairly open-ended, she is incapable of swearing to herself, and those she does swear to needs to make sense situationally. This means she cannot swear to some random, unrelated individual while defending Soul Society. If there is nobody that situationally makes sense for her to swear to, she cannot make an Oath. Up to twelve Oaths can be maintained at once, but each Oath maintained will eat away at her Fragments of Heaven, so it might not be wise to do so. If four separate Oaths would grant their Essence of Dreams at the exact same time, Chika can instead elect to gain a Fragment of Heaven instead.

[Tala Selao]

"Don't worry, Tala, I'm sure it'll come quite quickly in no time~!!" Tala responded to Chika's encouragement with a smile and a grateful nod. What he thought or felt about all this didn't quite matter as what Celes had said was true. It would likely take him several years or even decades before he started to comes close to learning Bankai. And if that was so then for now he'd focus on making use of his knowledge and abilities now as well as getting used to his Shikai.

Speaking of which, he shared the same sentiment as Chika as the Captain had begun explaining the goal of their spar, impressed with how nimble she was to have kept the bells quite for so long. A note he'd keep in mind when they actually do start the action. However he soon realized that this wasn't going to be as simple as it sounded. "I assure you two, though. If you aren't willing to kill me, there's no way you're going to get these bells." A chill and a shiver running down his spine as the Captain uttered concerning words.

He didn't notice the concerning glance that Chika had given him as he'd kept his attention on the Captain, a hand silently reaching up to rub the obsidian stone that hung from his neck. However he did hear the slight serious edge to her voice as she spoke up and gave her a surprised look as it seemed she had quickly decided to release her Shikai, feeling a bit of kinship with her as he saw that she too had a polearm for a release, and gave her rather bold proclamations, unaware of their effects.

He returned her smile as he stepped next to her, pulling his own sword from it's sheathe as he held it steady in front of him, "I appreciate the sentiment Chika, however let's not be too hasty. We'll need a plan if we're going to succeed. However..."  He initially had no intentions of actually using Shikai and while he may not really be able to engage in this spar with the intent to kill like Celes was asking but he could at least give his all in making sure that he didn't let Chika down. With this sentiment in mind, he took in a deep breathe and exhaled slowly as he uttered the following words under his breathe, "Tend to the flame, Hāsu"

As he uttered the release phrase, the air around him immediately began to warm up as his sword glowed brightly for a moment before it died down and left in its place a double bladed spear. He quickly swings it around to hold behind him as he takes a more defensive fighting stance, "If you're going to go at this with your all then I guess I'll have to respond in kind as well." He then smiles at her before returning his attention to the Captain and then mutters underneath his breath for Chika to hear, "I'm going to try and trap her, move in when you can."

He then holds up one hand aimed at the Captain and quickly spoke, "Bakudō sixty-one: Rikujokoro!" As the words left his mouth a spark of yellow energy is generated from the tips of his fingers that quickly flash and disperse as six thin, wide beams of light suddenly appear and move to slam into Cele's midsection, where she would then be held in place, completely paralyzed by the beams of light. He quickly braces himself afterwards, ready to try and dodge a retaliating strike, not quite sure nor really expecting it to work.

{Zanpakuto Overall}Hestia's abilities, much like the mythical goddess of the same namesake, revolves around heat and fire and the power she has over them. She gives her wielder the same capability of tending to the heat and fires in the world and in themselves.

Her abilities very much focus on making use of pre-existing heat and fire to work although Hestia provides a constant source of heat so that the user can make use of after much practice and understanding of her abilities.She also allows the user to sense and differentiate types of heat, being more like a feeling than any other type of sensory cue.

{Shikai Overall} In Shikai, Hāsu's abilities are more focused on the generation, control, and manipulation of heat. To start off with, Hāsu's blades are always hot to the touch, producing enough heat to cut through metal and other materials that aren't reinforced by reiatsu and even burning flesh that it cuts through.

The user also learns how to make use of the heat that she is giving off and will continue to give off as long as she is released. Hāsu can also allow the user to control and manipulate any source of heat and fire, excluding the heat of living creatures save for their own.

[Celes Castellanos]

The Captain loved the confidence radiating from the two Officers before her. It seemed that even Tala was beginning to get into it. This was good. To further add to the hype, Chika raised her sword towards. The Captain felt a surge of energy arise from the Unseated Officer. Celes' lips curled into a smile. "Fight for a brighter future, Yabureta Yume!" The Captain would recognize the phrasing anywhere. It was a Kaigo. A release chant. Despite her reservations earlier, Chika was able to melt all of Celes' worries away.

This was an exciting time. After all, Celes found it exciting to learn what unique abilities that her fellow Shinigami possessed. As Chika's reiryoku finished molding her weapon, Celes would be downright ecstatic. Her eyes lit up. Chika's Shikai weapon was a Naginata. It certainly was rare that the Captain got to fight a polearm. After all, she once wielded a spear herself. Her train of thought was disrupted as Chika called out to her. "I swear to you, Celes, that I'll grab that bell!" Then she shifted to Tala. "And, I swear to you, Tala, that we'll succeed on this assignment!!"

Celes smiled brightly. She loved the confidence. She loved kinship between her fellow Officers. At the end of the day, those bonds were among the most uplifting. She truly had no idea of the true purpose of the proclamations. Interestingly enough, this brought about a reaction from Tala. "I appreciate the sentiment Chika, however let's not be too hasty. We'll need a plan if we're going to succeed. However..." Celes hummed to herself. "Excellent. Don't just rush in without some goal." 

The Captain looked at Tala as he took a deep breath. Was he muttering something? She'd find out pretty quickly as his energy shifted. Suddenly, his blade glowed, and Celes' eyes sparkled. "Magnificent!" Seemed that she was going to bear witness to not one, but two Shikai. "If you're going to go at this with your all then I guess I'll have to respond in kind as well." She'd be even more excited as Tala's blade turned into a double-bladed spear. It seemed that she'd need to face off against two polearm users today. She sighed and cracked her knuckles. Every shift in her movement caused the bells to jingle. They'd certainly be an advantage to Tala and Chika as they'd give away her location anytime, she moved. 

Suddenly, her eyes became trained on her two opponents. This was an exercise to explore their creativity, battle tactics and individual skills. Not only that, but it'd give them a chance to bond to their Shikai. Celes would not dare make the first move. That is... unless they took too long. Thankfully it seemed that after some slight deliberation, the two of them were ready to begin. Celes relaxed her stance with a slight bend in her knees. She'd seem totally relaxed. In fact, she didn't even seem to reach for her Zanpakutō. Would she really fight unarmed? Against two Shikai no less? 

Keeping herself light on her feet, the Captain hopped up and down ever so gently. She'd continue to do so until she saw Tala's arm raising up towards her. There was also a notable spark in his reiryoku. She smirked briefly. She was a master of at least two Shinigamy styles. Hakuda and Zanjutsu. Her Hohō required a bit of work, but she was also quick on her feet. Despite having little to no Kidō background, Celes still encountered it enough to understand some of its tells. 

"Bakudō sixty-one:" Celes' eyes lit up. She couldn't resist. She'd spring in, saying it with him. Rikujokoro!" Suddenly, six beams of light materialized around Celes. She knew this Kido well. After all, Orobas had used it against Senshi and before that, the Captain of the Eighth had used it to bind her in a spar. "Clever." Flashing Tala a brief smile, the Captain suspected that he was looking for an easy capture. However, Celes would show off some impressive speed. Before the beams of light closed in on her, aiming to crash into her waist, the Captain jumped up and brought her legs against her chest. The movement, while simple, was performed at nearly her full speed.

By the time that the Kido came crashing down, Celes would already be above it. Having jumped in an arc, she landed a little behind the Bakudō. She couldn't help, but grin. "A 60s level Bakudō. Well, aren't you full of surprises, Tala." There was no condescension in her voice. Quite the opposite. Celes was actually rather impressed. Bakudō was, admittedly, one of her weaknesses. Total body paralysis was downright crippling for a Hakuda user. Nevertheless, Celes extended her arm, palm up. She'd make a gesture as if to say, "Come at me."

[Chika Hirabayashi]

Hearing Tala's remark, Chika nodded her head with a smile. He was right, after all! They absolutely needed a plan. Though, she might've had an idea, provided Tala was more than willing to provide a bit of cover for her! Seemingly, that was almost exactly what happened thereafter! With a smug grin, she prepared for what was to come.

As Tala muttered to her, Chika nodded her head. She didn't dare say anything; she wasn't going to let Celes know just what was going on. Instead, she was going to take the opportunity to make a move alongside her ally! As Tala spoke those words, and Celes chimed in along with him, she was going to take her opportunity. Not taking any risks, she held the blade of her Shikai low to the ground, and followed through with an upward slash.

As she did, and the mark of her blade traced across the air in front of her, a spatial pattern painted itself into the air before quickly opening up like a blinking eye, before dissipating. Not a moment later, that same eye opened up just behind her, almost as though keeping an eye on the battlefield itself. Alongside this movement, though, the slash of her naginata actively displaced itself from reality; instead of its cutting edge simply staying where it was in front of her, the swing of her weapon instead traced directly along her target; directly along Celes.

Provided the Shinigami made no move to block or dodge the attack, the swing found its way directly across her vertical movement with Chika's full force. Which, granted, wasn't a lot, but it was something! As her swing reached its peak, and eventually came to a close, the Shinigami wasted no time in immediately looking to close the distance. She was on it!

Rushing up at her full speed toward the Captain, Chika made no effort to hide her intentions; before anything else, the girl's goal was to snatch those bells! She tended to get very one-tracked into those sorts of things, after all. Even though Tala had warned her against doing so, she still found herself getting a bit reckless regardless. Perhaps it would pay off in the long run? It was hard to say!
