Technique Name: Nephilic Advance
Class: 3
Technique Type: General Hellion/Nakabakki Technique
Usable By: Nakabakki
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects: Much like Nephilim, Nakabakki are neither bound to a reincarnation through the Soul Cycle, nor are they bound to a damned future in the underworld. Nakabakki are those that have the option to make their own choice, whether through the purification ritual, or through allowing their hellish side to permanently take over, binding them to one fate or another. However, there exists a third path Nakabakki can take; one that leads them directly down the middle of both.
Nephilic Advance is a technique that, at the start of a thread, allows a Nakabakki to draw on either their Parental Heritage, or their Hellish Heritage, sacrificing one temporarily in order to bolster the other. During their first post of combat, a Nakabakki must elect to activate this technique or not. If they don’t, they don’t have the option to activate it until after combat ends. Activating this technique costs 200 Reiatsu (100 when Proficient, and 0 when Mastered), and costs a Nakabakki one half of their release. If a Nakabakki chooses to empower their Hellish Heritage, they lose access to the release granted to them from their Parental Heritage. If they choose to bolster their Parental Heritage, they lose their Hellish Heritage.
After the cost is paid, and a release is given up, Nakabakki will find that their remaining release will be much more efficient to use. If they keep their Hellish Heritage, both stages of Saisei Oni will increase by one post in duration (two posts when Proficient, and three when Mastered). Those that choose their Parental Heritage will have similar benefits instead, with Shikai and Bount Dolls gaining the same number of posts listed above in between refresh periods, or for Mod Souls, Quincy and Beast-Clansmen, the cost to activate their release will be reduced by 10% (20% at Proficient, and 30% at Mastered). These benefits last until the end of a thread, or until the end of combat in longer-styled threads.
Cinematically, this technique functions like a Yin-Yang Seal, similar to the Vizard Technique; when one Heritage is given up, all traces of that Heritage’s Reiatsu isn’t able to be detected within the user. At Mastered, a Nakabakki can choose to keep this portion permanently active, allowing them to disguise themselves as their Heritage of choice, provided they disguise themselves well enough to physically back up this Reiatsu signature benefit. Changing to their other Heritage with this effect costs 200 Reiatsu.
How to use technique: Listed Above.
Technique Drawbacks: While certainly potent, this technique is not without its fair share of drawbacks. To start, this technique cannot be obtained by simply spending the TTP to obtain it; a Solo or Joint Training thread must be completed that nets enough TTP for this technique to be Learned, where the one seeking to learn the technique actually learns it. Teaching the technique to someone else halves the necessary size of the thread required. Gaining Proficiency and Mastery over this technique is not easy. In addition to the TTP costs, Proficiency requires this technique to have been used in five separate threads, and Mastery requires use in ten separate threads. Only then can this technique be advanced. This technique is limited to one use per thread, or once per 12-hour rest in longer-styled threads. This technique does not reduce the costs of release techniques, merely the costs of activating said release. When one side is chosen, non-release techniques of the Heritage that’s given up are locked until the technique ends (those that give up their Hellish Heritage cannot make use of Hellion techniques, etc.). This technique takes up two technique slots, and both the Hellish Heritage and and Parental Heritage versions need to earn Proficiency and Mastery separately, with both different versions requiring uses of those specific versions beforehand. They’re Learned together, though. Nakabakki that take this technique are forever locked to Nakabakki, and are unable to change races.
