It looked like the Ichinen attack had some effect, and caused Celes a serious injury as well. Kaen was pleased to see that, reminding himself that Ichinen could be a useful tool in his kit for fighting a more physically dominant fighter like Celes or Yuri in the future. Still, the game was still on and he wasn't about to get complacent. After-all, another shot like that to his left ribs and he probably wouldn't have bones for Squad 4 to put back together there, to say nothing of the internal damage. But... It didn't matter. Kaen's blood as a fighter was boiling over. His soul was aflame. Nothing mattered. Nothing but the fight. Not his future, not his representation of Squad 7, not his pride. Nothing but his skill as a martial artist and a dance along the edge of demise if he mistepped, or if Celes failed to check a blow appropriately.
When Celes suggested the continuation and, Kaen gave a small mock bow, before resuming his fighting stance, palm up as if extending it for Celes's hand. "I'm glad you agree~." He replied, with a grin. He was ready to attack if Celes looked like she was about to try her breathing technique to recover, but instead Celes was ready to take on the offensive. Shunpo? Kaen immediately shifted to spin in a half-circle, moving towards Celes's previous location, and off to the left. If Celes was intending to Shunpo behind him or to his left or right, he needed to reposition before the blow struck, while reorienting himself to address the rest of her onslaught. But it seemed that wasn't her intent.
An after-image technique. What an incredible display of speed. Their speeds were close enough that Kaen could perhaps make out the copies if he focused, but that would likely just draw him into Celes's trap. A deadly dance of feints and weaves, disguising her true intent. Fine then. Kaen breathed in... then exhaled, and focused on nothing more than the space within his arm's reach. A gap that Celes would have to pass through to strike him unless she opted to use shockwaves. Barrier Stance. Kaen constructed a mental sphere around him, no further than the reach of his arms. The world beyond that sphere drifted away into blurry white noise. His focus was so intense, that little short of the brightest Cero or Fireball imaginable would have caught his attention beyond these four or five feet around him.
But within that sphere?
Everything was heightened. His eyes could nearly perceive the dust in the air. Nothing happened within this sphere without Kaen being able to see it. Despite its name, Barrier Stance didn't make any literal barrier, it instead condensed and focused Kaen's senses to such a compacted area, that they were effectively heightened at the cost of rendering him all but deaf and blind to anything beyond it. Normally it would be a risky ploy but Kaen had picked up some traits about Celes. If she was playing with this after-image move, she was going to commit to an attack. And she didn't strike him as the sort who would use Shockwaves. She was enjoying this brawl as much as he was, and she wasn't going to spoil that now. No, Celes was going to strike and it would be in the form of a close quarter attack. All Kaen had to do was be ready to receive it.
There!
Celes's committed movement alerted Kaen the moment she moved to strike him. There wasn't any way Kaen could see through her after-image hell without giving her the advantage. But with Barrier Stance up? There was no way he'd miss the moment she transitioned to a committed blow. Kaen's arm rose in an outside chest block, slamming against Celes's forearm. But with Celes's full committed strength, combined with Do-Re-Mi, it wouldn't be enough. It would knock Celes's strike off-target, sure, but that would only result in the blow colliding with Kaen's shoulder, and utterly destroying the limb. So Kaen combined Jiujitsu principles along with his Karate ones.
This wasn't like Celes's earlier downward kick. Kaen used the force of his own block against Celes's arm to shift his own body away from her attack, using his soto-uke chest block as a lever to push himself out of the way of her blow and along the outside of her punching arm. This sudden rush of movement shattered Kaen's focus on his barrier stance, which was not equipped to handle such sudden changes in position, but that was fine, it fulfilled its purpose. The instant Kaen's feet touched ground again, Kaen's opposite hand struck out beneath Celes's arm, to punch her in the side. A move that could have been pulled straight from a Karate textbook. Block-and-counter.
And this counterattack would have a nasty surprise of Kaen's own. Celes was about to experience a move Kaen had designed for this exact purpose-- the shattering palm. If Kaen was successful in landing his blow, the force of his punch would transmit in a straight line from his fist and straight through Celes's body. It was for this reason that Kaen had dropped his punch to Celes's lower-abdomen. He had no intention of sending this force through her heart. However, everything below it, was about to sustain a heavy impact from Kaen's full strength piercing through Celes like a steel beam, her honed muscles offering little protection to everything behind them. This technique had been designed by Kaen to be an equalizer after his infuriating defeat to the Mod Soul Yuri. Realizing he would not always have a physical advantage, Kaen had spent months devising this move to allow him to quite literally punch above his weight class.
However, this was new ground and he'd yet to actually use the technique in live combat. Celes though? She was the perfect opponent to test the move on, and Kaen could think of nobody better. She was the epitome of the very opponent Kaen had designed the move to be effective against afterall, so its effects on the Captain would be vital for his understanding. Assuming it hit of course. Celes was still faster than him, and a canny Hakuda fighter herself. There was every possibility this move would fail against her. Ah well. Kaen would deal with that bridge when he came to it.

{Barrier Stance}Technique Name: Barrier Stance
Class: [2]
Technique Type: [Hakuda] - Kidou, Quincy Technique, Bount Technique, Human Technique, Hollow Technique, Other
Technique Element: [N/a]
Technique Description and Effects: [This is a defensive fighting stance, inhibiting the user’s mobility in exchange for a near perfect physical defense. The user focuses all of their senses on the space around them, enhancing their perception and reflexes within a short radius around the user, roughly the space of their arms, allowing them to react to attacks within this space with unexpected precision and speed. Instinct is doubled within this radius, and sensory stats are also counted as doubled with regards to sight.]
How to use technique: [The user visualizes a sphere around themselves, that extends out to around their maximum arms reach, and concentrates all their focus into this sphere around themselves, unconcerned with what goes on outside of the sphere. This technique requires at least a 2 in any hand to hand martial art to learn.]
Drawback: [Mobility is heavily restricted while using this form. In fact, when unmastered, the user is incapable of maintaining this form while moving around, and so a user must remain stationary when using this technique. Even when mastered, movement is limited to only one or two steps at a time. This form cannot be used while holding a weapon, although gauntlets, or any form of device that does not need to be held is fine. Finally, using this technique too many times will inhibit the user’s senses for the remainder of the thread. After three uses of this technique, the user’s senses will be overtaxed and their Sensory stat will drop by 10%, plus an additional 10% per use afterwards. This user will suffer similar consequences for prolonged usage of this technique. Using this technique for more than two consecutive posts, will cause the same 10% reduction in senses, with an additional 10% per additional post.]

{Shattering Palm}Technique Name: Shattering Palm
Class: [1]
Technique Type: Hakuda
Usable By (Technique is available to which races?): Shinigami only; Vice Captain level or higher
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects : This is a devastating Hakuda technique, designed to allow a weaker fighter to defeat stronger ones, or opponents protected by powerful defensive techniques or armor. Shattering Palm is a basic strike, typically a palm strike or punch that takes the striking principle of “punching through your target” to the highest possible level. Upon striking an opponent with the Shattering Palm, the user is able to transmit a shockwave directly through the target’s body, uninhibited by Hierro, Blut, Cutback, Flex Defense or any other defensive techniques. The result is that everything behind the point of impact, such as vital organs, ligaments or their very skeleton is struck by the user’s full strength, without protection from the target's muscles or anything else. This principle makes the Shattering Palm ideal for weaker martial artists fighting stronger opponents as it negates much of the protection from their blows that the stronger opponent’s muscles would normally provide. Thus, it gets its name from the fact that it tends to shatter opponents, crushing their skeletons and organs alike in a single strike.
At a basic level, the Shattering palm can only be performed with either a palm strike or a direct punch. At an intermediate level of mastery, it can be performed with any hand strike whatsoever, and when fully mastered it can be utilized with any physical strike using the body.
How to use technique (How is it activated?): Once this technique is learned, the user can make any physical strike an application of this technique it at will, for no reiatsu cost, provided they meet all of the requirements and limitations listed below:
To even learn the Shattering Palm, the user must first possess a minimum of 10 Skill Points in hand to hand martial arts. Of these 10 Skill Points, at least 4 must be put into a striking style martial art. They must also possess enough strength to be able to generate shockwaves (a minimum of 600).
Technique Drawbacks (Limitations, repercussions for use, etc): Once this technique is learned, as long as the character has it, they are no longer able to use long range shockwaves through the air. The training to develop the control for this technique renders the act impossible. Shockwaves may still be used through the ground or water like the earthquake stomp, and the user is not incapable of performing very generalized effects (such as using the wind generated by their swings to clear away a cloud of sand or fog), but actually causing damage with their shockwaves alone, at long range becomes impossible. This technique requires significant focus and perfect form to use correctly, and as such, striking with poor technique, or with a disrupted psyche renders the technique unusable. This technique cannot transmit the shockwave through any empty space greater than one inch, therefore if more space than that exists between the point of impact and its intended target (in the case of hitting something like armor or a shield for example), the attack will not reach them.
This technique does require more effort and control than a normal punch or kick, and some minor muscle damage is accumulated with each use, to the offending limb, which will be exacerbated to moderate muscle damage after three uses with the same limb, and severe muscle damage after six uses. The limb can still perform one more application of this technique after reaching severe damage, but will shred the muscles in the arm, and it will become nearly useless for the remainder of the thread, unless treated. Not that this damage is cumulative with the strain from other Hakuda techniques.
It should be important to note that this is not inherently some death touch technique where landing a hit anywhere on the opponent's body will strike every organ inside them with your full striking force. The shockwave generated by Shattering Palm will only travel in a straight line, and will remain the size of the point of impact. That is to say, if the user strikes the target with their fist, the shockwave will be the size of the fist, and travel in a straight line, in the direction of the user's force, meaning in order to actually damage someone's internal organs, the user does have to make sure those organs are lined up behind the point of impact. You can't deliver the shockwave to someone's heart by punching them in the shoulder. A useful rule of thumb for determining what the shockwave hits is to visualize what would be hit if the character’s attack went straight through the opponent.
