Monstrosity Techniques
Monstrosity techniques have stringent costs and drawbacks but provide extreme physical benefits. Though they are intended for monsters and NPCs, RPCs may also take techniques of this type, should they qualify. Before a character can take a Monstrosity technique, they must have no more than 0 in Reiatsu Strength and Spiritual Pressure and must have at least 1 rank in the Monstrosity skill. Monstrosity techniques may require their user to have a certain level of Strength and Monstrosity skill ranks and may cost cuts to either of these stats. If a Monstrosity technique cuts Strength stat or Monstrosity skill ranks, they return at a rate of 100 & 1 per post, respectively. If a Beast-Clansman takes a Monstrosity technique, it comes with the additional drawback of requiring 1 post of stamina to use in addition to any other stamina costs they must pay, per the Genius stamina rules (or the stamina rules of the Beast-Clansman’s type, if they have one).
Technique Name: Anathema Awakening
Class: 4, 1
Technique Type: Monstrosity
Usable By: Beast-Clansmen, Hollows, Arrancar, Bount, Mod Souls, Akki, Nakabakki, Hason, and Saika
Technique Element: None
Technique Description and Effects: The user transforms into an even more powerful monster for 4 posts, gaining a selection of traits unique to the character (chosen when this technique is first Learned). When this technique is Proficient, its duration extends to 6 posts, and when the technique is Mastered, its duration extends to 8 posts. While transformed with this technique, the user’s body resists cutback as though they were using a release.
The Class 1 version of this technique adds a second potential stage of transformation to the user, which lasts for the same duration as the Class 4 version, and has its own additional properties.
When this technique is Learned, its user must select which body properties the technique can give them while the technique lasts, regardless of whether they are learning the Class 4 or the Class 1 version. For each stage of transformation, the character may select either 1 Anathemic Power trait and 1 Anathemic Form trait or; 2 Anathemic Form traits. The Power and Form traits allowed are as follows:
Anathemic Power
• Swallow Whole: By catching a character in their maw, the transformed character can quickly swallow an entire character whole, storing them in their gizzard or stomach, where they take damage each post based on an Offensive Strength equal to half the monster's Strength. The first time this trait is chosen, it allows the monster to swallow whole up to 3 characters; the second time it is chosen, it allows the monster to swallow whole up to 7 characters.
• Terrible Appearance: Characters looking upon the body of the monster are struck with a deep terror. Those without at least 2 ranks in Lack of Fear have their Offensive Strengths reduced by 50% against the monster. If this trait is chosen a second time, it advances to Will-Breaking Appearance, which causes characters looking upon the monster to lose 2 Mental skill ranks of victim's choice per post. Ranks lost to Will-Breaking Appearance return at a rate of 1 per post a character is not looking at the monster. A character with Lack of Fear 4 is not affected by this Power trait.
• Increased Tolerance/Resistance: Any Tolerance or Resistance skills the monster has increase by 1 rank for each time this Power trait is selected. This Power trait cannot raise any skill to 4 ranks for any reason.
• Matter Ingestion: From any maw, the monster may ingest matter of a single chosen type. Each post that a maw consumes a sizeable amount of that matter, the monster regenerates 50 points of Strength.
• Power Regeneration: By repurposing parts of their own body, the monster may regenerate from injuries that would otherwise be debilitating. The first time this Power trait is chosen, the monster may spend 25 points of Strength to regenerate from any injury to their limbs and up to deep lacerations and heavy bruising to their body. The second time this Power trait is chosen, the monster may spend 250 points of Strength to also regenerate from heavy injuries to their core and internal organs. Strength stat spent to empower this ability is not regained per the normal Monstrosity technique rules, until the Anathema Awakening expires.
• Singularity: The monster's Anathemic Power traits and Anathemic Form traits cannot be copied or mimicked by any other character in the same thread.
• Toxicity: The monster's body secretes a thick slime that poisons characters coming into contact with their skin. If this Power trait is chosen a second time, the monster's natural attacks are laced with venom. Poison from this trait drains 1 rank of Poison Resistance per post of contact; when a character has no Poison Resistance remaining, the poison instead inflicts a 10% debuff to their highest Offensive Stat. Venom from this trait breaks down victims' bodies internally, dealing damage each post based on an Offensive Strength equal to one-tenth of the monster's Strength, less 100 Strength per point of the victim's Poison Resistance. If a victim has Poison Resist 4, it takes 2 posts for this trait to reduce their skill to 3 ranks.
• Breath Weapon: Up to once per post, the monster may exhale a gout of weaponized breath up to 10 feet long per 200 Strength they have. This breath weapon must have an organic basis and component, but can be either cold or hot in nature. If the monster has the Toxicity Anathema Power, the breath weapon may instead be poisonous in nature, matching the effects of a poison the monster has.
Anathemic Form
• Two Extra Arms: The monster grows two additional arms.
• Two Wings: The monster grows two wings, which are capable of propelling them at up to half their Speed. If this trait is chosen a second time, an additional two wings grow, increasing the monster's flight Speed to their full Speed stat.
• Dermal Armor: The monster's body develops thick scales, bone growth or some other form of armor. The first time this Form trait is chosen, the monster's body becomes Class 4. The second time this Form trait is chosen, their body becomes Class 1. This trait cannot increase the monster's body to a Class higher than their own. Dermal Armor is bypassed by released weapons of equal or greater class, though they are reduced by half in effectiveness.
• Chitinous Morphology: The monster's body develops a thick chitin, limited to one region of the body. Attacks at this region of the monster's body with less than or equal to 50% their Strength are ignored; attacks over 50% of their Strength damage the chitin, depleting Durability from a pool of x2 the monster's Strength.
• Maw Manifestation: The monster may grow an extra maw on a core part or extremity of their body. To do so, the monster must spend 100 Strength, which does not regenerate per the normal Monstrosity rules until the Anathema Awakening expires.
• Natural Weaponry: The monster's body develops natural weapons, taking two different selections from the below sub-list:
• 2 Claws: These claws usually grow on the end of two arms, and strike at Anathema Awakening's Class.
• 4 Bone Spikes: These spikes sprout from the monster's arms or shoulders. By spending 10 Strength, a bone spike can be fired from the body at an Offensive Strength equal to half the monster's Strength. Strength spent to fire a bone spike does not regeneate per the normal Monstrosity rules until the Anathema Awakening expires.
• 2 Horns: These horns typically sprout from the monster's head, neck or shoulders and can be used for goring attacks or blocking attacks. The horns have Durability equal to twice the monster's Strength.
• 1 Tail: This tail sprouts from the monster's torso or abdomen and is half as long as the monster is tall. It can be used as a battering ram or sweeping attack to hit everything nearby.
• 2 Tentacles: These tentacles can sprout from anywhere on the monster's body. They have half the user's Strength but are 10 feet long per 100 Strength of the monster.
How to use technique: Channel your inner beast and make it your outer beast.
Technique Drawbacks: Before a character can take a Monstrosity technique, they must have no more than 0 in Reiatsu Strength and Spiritual Pressure and must have at least 1 rank in the Monstrosity skill.
The user must have at least a 2 in Monstrosity to learn the Class 4 version, and at least a 4 in Monstrosity to learn the Class 1 version. To use the Class 4 version, the user must take a 300-point cut to Strength and a 1-point cut to Monstrosity. To use the Class 1 version, the user must take a 500-point cut to Strength and a 3-point cut to Monstrosity.
