With everything that had been going on recently, Raphael realized that he hadn’t had time to run his simulator. He’d set it to run a tiny simulation of humans vs shinigami, setting higher levels of stronger shinigami vs humans at the level that he knew of. He knew that this would take several hours and so, in order to use his time better, he pulled out his work laptop and began pulling up the code for the Uzaki Enterprise mainframe. As always he ran through several different test layers, several different programs, subroutines and functions and he couldn’t deny that Kazura had done one hell of a job in designing the firewall, but there were a few problems with its design, some areas that he could improve on.
Functions connecting to the shop and website, as well as the civilian side, were incredibly well put together and would’ve been difficult to crack. It was, however, the physical mainframe that he was concerned about. He’d managed to break into it, after all, and while he was a decent technophobe himself, he felt that the fact that he’d manged to crack into it meant that it needed upgrading. Besides Irina was busy with her department and Kazura was… Well, Raph was trying to let him rest more. Their adventure out into Hueco Mundo made him realize that Kazura needed a LOT more rest. The man was an amazing spiritual crafter, but Raph had an odd feeling that the way he was going about it was injuring him.
As he ran subroutine NEMESIS, he began looking at a few other options more things for work, to help Uzaki Enterprises. Or, perhaps, mankind? Maybe even just himself, he still hadn’t decided. Several areasa of concern began flashing as NEMESIS made its course through the mainframe’s firewall. It was going to take a few hours to determine all of the affected areas. Thankfully NEMESIS didn’t do anything but try to penetrate the firewall and any other defenses and then came up with areas where they could be improved. After that was done then he could go back through and shore up those defenses with new code, then he’d upload that and do it all over again.
BUT, for the time being NEMESIS would have to run its course through the main system and that would take several hours. Sighing, he pulled up one of the tickets on his computer. He groaned. He knew that he didn’t technically HAVE to work on the non spiritual team’s IT tickets, but looking at the status bar on NEMESIS… Well, suffice it to say that he had a while. So he opened the first ticket and shook his head as he read the report. Every cell in his body cringed. Their mouse wasn’t doing anything. He picked up another mouse, just in case, and headed out for the office.
“Oh, thank goodness you’re here with a new mouse!” The guy that had requested it was a mid-manager, male, probably late fifties. He was the team lead for one of their sales teams, but the computer that he had was…well it was pretty darn old; he hadn’t seen one like this since Irina. Ignoring the guy, as he usually did whenever he’d helped friends with their computers, he unplugged the guy’s current mouse and immediately plugged in the new one. After giving it a few seconds to fix, and seeing that it wouldn’t correctly install, he shook his head.
“So, your computer’s mouse connector isn’t working anymore, it’s not that the mouse is bad. Give me a second and I can get you a wireless mouse, it uses a USB infrared connector instead.”
Yet the man he’d come to help suddenly looked concerned. “Wait, wait wait… You’re IT aren’t you? You’re supposed to help with things like this, y-you’re supposed to be able to fix this!” The general panic was something that Raph was used to helping out with, back in the library, when older people came in concerned that they were going to lose something if they had to plug something new into their computer or use a new method of document transfer that they weren’t used to, but he didn’t expect it with a mid level manager in a sales department.
“Look, your only two options are either I get you a wireless mouse or you submit a recquisition request for a new computer. Those are the only two things that will get this done.”
“But…” The man started at his computer for a few seconds and then looked at Raph. “But you’re IT aren’t you? Aren’t you supposed to fix things like this?”
Raphael sighed. “Yes I’m IT; however that doesn’t mean that we have the parts to fix this. It’s the entire connector on your tower. That isn’t something that we can just fix in five minutes. That will literally force me to take it apart, replace the connector and then put it back together. That’ll take at least three hours. In the meantime, because you don’t have a working computer, your team will lag behind the others leading to a more intense performance review for you. Is that really what you want? Or do you want me to just go and get you a wireless mouse so you can continue to do your job and your team can do their job?”
The man looked first at his computer, then looked at Raph and sighed after a few seconds. “A-Alright, fine! Get me a damn wireless mouse. I’ll just make due with it, I guess…” Raphael, still annoyed, went and got the man a wireless mouse. The man grunted as he dropped it off, but didn’t seem to pay him any further mind and practically waved him away, dismissively. But as Raph continued to stand there, the man turned to him with a frustrated gaze. “What?”
“Please keep in mind that if your USB connectors go bad, too, then you’ll have to recquisition a new computer. You will literally have no other choice. Anyways, hope you have a good rest of your day.” With that Raph gave a light wave and headed out of the office, the man’s face red as an apple, but without a thing in the world to say in response to Raph’s words, was seared into his mind. He chuckled a bit as he headed back towards the main computer lab. “Dumbass. Doesn’t understand a mouse from a hole in the ground… I hope that the next ticket I have to deal with isn’t nearly as idiotically pedantic…”
