Kuro smelled the night air. He was finally in his official Shinigami uniform, although with his personal alterations. He had removed the sleeves, showing off his toned yet lanky arms. He had been assigned to patrol that night in the World of the Living in a small town. There had been a recent outbreak of hollow attacks and the reports didn't make it sound like it was going to be an easy take on the issue. The specific targets were young adult males with higher spiritual energy and even some instances of spiritual awareness in them.
The part of town Kuro was in was fairly lit with street lamps and the roads made of cobblestones, accentuating the old timey feeling this part of town had. It certainly wasn't the most technologically improved setting. The bench along a bus stop on the street was made entirely of wood and buried into the ground by the legs. It was wide enough to maybe fit three people. There homes about of course, but few and far between, leaving large open areas between the homes filled with gardens for produce. The road itself had walls on both sides with a few gaps over ten meters to allow passage to the road from the homes. It didn't actually seem like an area that would so easily allow young men of all people to be attacked at night. Kuro frowned deep as he thought on the possibility that this hollow wasn't just attacking any young man but perhaps there was another factor or possibly even technique it might have been using to lure these men out.
He definitely knew that hunting this thing was the only thing he could do. He was now a member of the Gotei 13, specifically the 13th squad. Sure, he was an unseated officer, but it was still his responsibility to take this task seriously. These men needed him. To fail would be one of the bleakest marks upon his record, a first mission going badly. He wasn't going to let that happen. He stood from his position, atop one of the light posts as he stared over the street he had been memorizing in his head. He had a gut feeling the hollow would return here. And he would be waiting.
