Edward was looking over the documents that had been brought to his desk, something was off in the budget and he took it upon himself to figure out where the discrepancy had occurred. This had been brought up to his attention the other day when a subordinate had informed him that their pay had been delayed. Now while serving his majesty was the highest reward one could obtain there was still the need for money for the soldiers. Many had families back home that depended on something to keep them afloat, they also required uniforms, food, supplies and other needs to be met with money.
To that end many vandeirech members are often tasked with obtaining wealth via one way or another. He knew that some would resort to hunting down other races and selling them to the world governments for research, usually to the highest bidder. Edward was fine with this as it solved two issues and also acted as training for some of the newer recruits. All of the money that was coming in from those requests usually was handled by a financial department so that the money was sent out to properly reward those who actually did the hunts and then the rest was used for Vandenreich usage.
There was also the odd job of taking down high target bounties now and again that some of the stronger Vandenreich would take and those usually were successes but had to be approved as they were usually offered by some of the other organizations. Because of that many of the bounties that were offered in the bingo book went untaken, however others would be taken. Then there were some Vandenreich who developed tech for normal humans to use and acted as tech companies selling high end tech in mass to help bring in money for the Vandenreich, however those members kept the truth of where their money would go to hidden from the public.
Either way with those three sources of income there should have been plenty in the coffers of the Vandenreich for this month’s pay. There were even some families of quincy who payed monthly tributes to the Vandenreich just to support the cause. Yet there were some soldiers coming to him telling him that they wouldn’t be getting paid this month for their work. Something was off and Edward needed to figure this out. Mostly due to him spending all of his money he had saved up for a very expensive replica set of saint seiya. It was the limited-edition anniversary set and he wasn’t going to let it just slip out of his hands.
So here he was going over paperwork trying to figure out where the discrepancy between what should have been paid to them and what they should have been paying out. Everything seemed to check out at least on paper, in fact they should have had a surplus of 10% given the way all the numbers added up. Something didn’t make sense, they were missing money, a ton of it actually and this wasn’t ok. Someone was stealing from the Vandenreich and to steal from the Vandenreich was to steal from the Emperor himself.
Edward wasn’t going to stand for this, he had to fix this and sitting around looking over documents wasn’t going to get him the results he wanted. No he had to take a more drastic measure in order to make sure that everything was actually being done right. Slowly he stood up from his desk with a list of names of people he had to interrogate about the missing money, the first group was the bounty hunters and corpse sellers themselves as sometimes they were paid in cash and this time there were three that had been this month so the possibility for three of them to have pocketed a bit of money was there.
Looking down at the list that he had in his hands Edward gave a frown at the first name. The first name on his list was wolfguard he was a rather interesting quincy with the ability to turn his arrows into a pack of wolves. He was often tasked with hunting down strays that had deserted the Vandenreich, however from time to time there would come jobs that required someone with a keen sense of smell and that’s where Wolfguard would come into play. While Edward couldn’t say anything bad about the man’s job success rate, the rest of the quincy bothered him very much so.
Wolfguard was a portly quincy, round would be the best word used to describe this man. While he did have a unique way of attacking and dealing with threats the fact that he used them for everything made Edward sick to his stomach. The longer the man stayed in the Vandenreich the fatter he got. Edward knew Wolfguard had a high success rate, however he also lacked discipline and the actual ability to follow proper orders. More than once Edward had to remind the quincy that the morning training sessions were mandatory for everyone, especially for his fat ass.
Without giving any warning Edward flung open the door to Wolfguard’s bedroom, there he saw the quincy laying about, his uniform unkept, the room a mess and his face covered in what looked like chocolate. “Wolfguard, please remind me how much exactly was the last contract you did worth.” The moment Edward had come into the room he forced both his gravitational pressure on the man and sealed away his powers. If the fat fuck wanted to do anything he would have to ask for permission from Edward. Edward took a step into the room kicking away some trash that had collected on the floor from the lazy quincy.
Obviously Wolfguard wasn’t expecting any visitors today, much less Edward. The fat quincy started to sweat, his stomach being pushed into it’s self from the combination of the gravitational pressure and fear from what Edward would do to the man. Stuttering Wolfguard spoke saying that he had gotten an amount that didn’t exactly match what had been written down as the proper payment. It was off, not more, but less than what was originally stated. “Are you sure that’s correct Wolfguard?” Edward took another step deeper into the cesspool that this man called his room. Here was a discrepancy and looking over the financials of this quincy there were some things inside of the room that didn’t add up.
Wolfguard screamed that that’s what he had been payed, that they offered everything in cash and that’s how much it was. Edward went to the sofa that the quincy was pinned under and pressed his boot against his stomach forcing down with part of his strength. “You mean to tell me you accepted fifty thousand less than what was originally written down?” The quicny screamed out saying that no it was a mistake, he had been given less, but he was also given another payment of 75 thousand that had been given to him electronically instead of cash. He hadn’t just given it to the Vandenreich yet.
Edward grabbed the Quincy by his collar and held him up. “Transfer the amount to my account right now.” Edward could see that Wolfguard was scared, and right he should be. Edward was forcing Wolfguard to pay for his crime. Wolfguard used his phone to transfer the amount over totally emptying out Wolfguard’s bank account. Edward made sure of that given that the man was short by ten thousand. He didn’t need to ask the quincy where that money was, he could tell by what was in the room that Wolfguard was spending money on needless things. At least this had solved a fraction of where the money had been going.
“Good job, as a reward for properly serving his majesty the Emperor I see it fit for you to die.” Wolfguard started to scream again asking why, he had paid back most of the money and the ten thousand that had gone missing could just be his payment for the mission, he didn’t need more. This was true, even that was a low payment for a job like that, however there was one thing that Edward couldn’t excuse it was clearly the first time this had been done. Looking around the room Edward saw several things that were too expensive for someone of his rank to afford, even with the jobs he took.
Edward grabbed the fat pig by his neck and slowly started to squeeze the windpipe of Wolfguard, his fingers digging deep into rolls of fat that the man had. It would take some time but slowly Edward would see the light in the quincies eyes fade as the gasping of the man started to fade. Eventually the kicking would stop and Wolfguard’s body would lay limp against the sofa that the man had been resting on. Edward would do one final squeeze crushing the wind pipe of Wolfguard as well as snapping his neck. Death as punishment shouldn’t be swift it should be painful and deadly.
With this done Edward crossed off Wolfguard’s name off of the list at least he had managed to recover a small amount of the missing money that hadn’t come in and a bit extra that wasn’t even supposed to exist. With that settled he took a calculation of what was left that was owed, sadly this hadn’t even been a drop in the bucket of what was missing. Luckily with Wolfguard dead and everything he owned belonging now to the Vandenreich they could make some more money from this, all they would have to do is either sell or trade off the rather odd items that Wolfguard seemed to value.
That wasn’t a job for him however, that would require too much manpower for one person and he had other more important tasks to deal with. He did know however who he had to call to deal with this situation. Adelheid, she was a competent quincy who was good with dealing on selling goods, a less than savory aspect he knew some quincy took part in was theft, Adelheid often took care of reselling those goods to wealthy individuals for exorbitant prices. If one actually thought the hope diamond was still in the royal family one would be wrong, Adelheid sold it years ago to someone in the middle east.
It was a simple call to let her know that Wolfgaurd had died and that his possessions would be sold to supplement the loss that had accumulated with his theft, as well as letting her know a massive deposit would be coming in from him which was an oversight of payment that Wolfguard had forgotten to give to the Vandenreich. The entire conversation took place in less than a minute and by the time he was finished leaving the dirty room there were already other quincy there to clean and get anything of value out of there to Adelheid for resell.
With that all said and done Edward turned to his list once more for the next name. Alice, this girl, while she wasn’t a hunter like Wolfguard was she did handle the requests and also payments. There was a large discrepancy between a few jobs that had resulted in about five hundred thousand Ryo going missing. Edward believed that she was stealing and it would be easy to prove, however he had to give her the benefit of the doubt that the error was just that an error and nothing more and that the money was still around, with that in mind he headed towards her office to confront her.
It didn’t take long for him to arrive there, it was a short walk away from where Wolfguard had made his home. Edward entered and sat down right at the desk in front of her. He didn’t say anything as she was on the phone. He started at her till she told them she would have to call back and hung up the phone. His gaze was filled with anger and hate, he had to do this in order for her to understand that he wasn’t playing around. With her no longer on the phone he spoke in a clear and authoritative tone. “It has come to my attention that there is close to a half a million dollar discrepancy between what we should have received for jobs and what we actually were paid for, do you care to explain yourself?”
Alice let out a sigh of relief as Edward spoke almost as if she knew exactly what he had been talking about. Then she started on why there were those issues, the first was that one of the jobs hadn’t been properly done, while they wanted a few corpses of fullbringers they were hoping to obtain them in good condition and the quincy that had done that job actually brought them back in states that could barely be used. She went on to say that out of the three bodies only one was slightly usable so they did take that, however it was only taken at a very reduced cost which was why that job had given them less than expected.
That one job in and of it’s self was worth a lot, but there were still a few more jobs she had to account for, over all Edward listened to the reasons and for the most part everything was adding up right. Taking everything into account it was that the jobs had been done poorly and the proper paperwork hadn’t yet been submitted to his office to clarify, Alice had all the proper documents to back everything up, everything say for one job that was worth by it’s self three hundred thousand ryo. “What about the black site job?” Edward looked at her noting that that job should have given them more than enough but no record of payment was shown.
She looked at him puzzled as she went on to state that she wasn’t aware of any issue with that as her supervisor took that payment personally. Edward furred his eyebrows and sighed he knew exactly as to who she was speaking about. His name was Adolf, a captain supervisor like him, not a ritter, but a man of somewhat equal standing. Edward personally couldn’t stand Adolf as that man was always going on about the luxury items that he should have or deserves. If anyone had been stealing money it would have been Adolf and to blatantly steal that much was a crime against the Emperor.
Edward thanked Alice for her time and left her office knowing exactly what he had to do. The scare tactics worked on the lower ranks because they knew exactly what Edward would do if he found the truth or even thought that they were lying to him, for someone of equal rank however he would have to beat the truth out of them before he would be able to get any information at all. Edward knew that around this time of the day Adolf would be in his office and that would be the perfect time to strike.
Outside of the man’s office in the SIlburn Edward took a deep breath in before throwing a punch aimed right at where the desk of Adolf would be sitting at. The shockwave echoed into the building forcing the walls to collapse and the entire room to shake. Adolf was thrown from the chair he had been sitting in. His body was bruised and broken blood was pouring from his wounds as he looked up to see Edward slowly walk into the office stepping over the rubble as if it was a minor inconvenience. Edward had a pleased look across his face as he stepped on the broken ankle of Adolf.
“Adolf, so good of you to be around. See Alice has told me something rather interesting and I made sure to follow up with the other group. You were paid for the black site job, you remember that one right? Where we were kidnapping female bounts for transport. Yet as the paperwork shows and the bank accounts of our officers reflect that you haven’t given it to us. Care to tell me why that is Adolf?” As Edward said this he made sure to take another step ontop of Adolf’s leg crushing his knee making it next to impossible for him to run away.
As expected Adolf screamed and yelled at Edward calling him crazy, that the job did get credited towards the Vadnenreich, that he was looking at the wrong person, that it had to be Alice who made the mistake. Yet Edward waved his hand at this, he wasn’t stupid he had done his research before going like this. He had other quincy dig into Adolf’s finances and they had found that shortly after the black site job was done the quincy had deposited a bunch of ryo into his own account before sending it off to another one. They had traced the money back to an account and had found several interesting things.
The first thing they found obviously was that Adolf had stolen the money that he claimed was paid to the Vandenreich, was in actually there along side a lot more ryo. All the ryo that had been found was enough to pay over three times the amount that was missing. Digging further they had found that Adolf had been slowly stealing ryo from the Vandenreich for a long time, however there wasn’t an exact date or amount as they could tell that the one bank account they had found wasn’t the only one.
Edward continued to press against Adolf’s leg till the man started to scream for him to stop, Edward did but only for a moment only to speak to him. “Oh don’t worry Adolf, I won’t be the one getting the information of your betrayal from the Vandenreich from you, that will be someone else’s job, I’m just here to make sure that you can’t run away and so you know that this action will not be tolerated.” With that Edward kicked Adolf in the face knocking him out and silencing the man for the time being.
With the silence came the other Vandenreich that Edward had ordered to stay outside till everything settled down. They dragged away the unconsiouis body of Adolf as Edward looked around at the half-destroyed office, sure there were better ways about doing this, however this was to send a message to all those who would assume to do the same. If they were ever to try something like this again this would be their fate. Sadly Edward would know two things would come from this, the first is that the investigation would take a bit longer and secondly that he would probably be responsible for the damages to the office and have to pay them out of his own salary .
With that all settled Edward went back to his own office to rest, it was already late and he had spent a majority of his day tracking down the various loose threads that connected Adolf’s bank accounts with the thief. While he did have others actually do the computer work he did any sort of physical work that needed to be done or intimidation. Honestly the day had been mentally draining and all he wanted to do now was relax and forget about the money. It would all be settled by the financial department’s new head, Alice. Who he had told to visit him after all the paperwork was settled.
Opening the door to his office he found it empty and quiet, just the way he liked it. He locked the door behind him and with a grin turned on the Tv that he had hidden in his office. The curtains were closed, the blinds drawn, and nothing was getting in unless he wanted it. It was time for his guilty pleasure. He had missed the live showing of it, but he had set his DVR to record it for him he didn’t know why, he didn’t know how, but they had decided to revamp Digimon the original season and tonight was the first episode. That along with a few more animes he needed to catch up on was how he would spend the rest of his night.
It was around eight in the morning when he heard a knock at his door. Edward looked over to see that the sun had already risen and he had spent the entire night watching new episodes instead of sleeping. His hair was disheveled, his clothes a mess and his face had stubble growing on it. He wasn’t in any position to be represented as a proper Vandenreich at this time. He debated on simply letting the person at his door continue knocking however he heard a familiar voice from beyond the door. It was Alice, she was telling him that she needed to speak with him right away about yesterday’s events.
Edward toyed with the idea of simply telling her to come back later that he wasn’t seeing anyone at this time, however he knew that doing so would be selfish as he had a responsibility to his subordinates to make sure they got paid. With a loud groan he got up off of the chair he had spent the last several hours in and tuned off the TV, making sure to hide it back in the wall where it had been before. Slowly he made his way over to the door, tired and zoned out of his mind he reached for it to try and open it, only to find that he hadn’t unlocked it himself.
As the door opened Alice would find that the man she was to be reporting for looked disheveled and tired. Heavy bags held under Edward’s eyes and his hair appeared to be a mess. She assumed that the stress of the situation from last night was getting to him and that he couldn’t find it in him to actually sleep while his subordinates weren’t being paid properly. She had a high opinion of Edward before, however seeing this it rose as she respected a leader that would worry that much about their staff. The real truth was however Edward just got lost in watching anime.
He opened the door wide enough for her to come in, his office was a bit messy due to what he was doing before, but not that much. Closing the door Edward slowly moved to his desk and sat down with his tired eyes looking at Alice, he hoped that this would be over quickly so he could take a nap to at least gain some rest. Alice laid out a large file across the desk with several papers typed up notating a bunch of information. Edward was in no mood to read this. He was too damn tired and just wanted to sleep now that he wasn’t watching anime. Seeing that Edward was tired Alice spoke up and started with why she was here.
She started with the fact that they were able to complete the investigation into Adolf rather quickly as they had a Quincy who was excellent in getting information out of people. It turns out that he had several other bank accounts all with thousands and thousands of ryo either stolen from the Vandnereich or meant for them. Given all that money that was taken and the fact that they had also seen plans of him trying to defect and leave Adolf would be publicly executed in a few hours. However telling him that wasn’t the main reason why she was here, no it was another one entirely one that she hoped would make him feel better.
After taking all the Ryo there was more than enough to pay the soldiers in his division and then some. Due to his actions also leading to a massive gain in Ryo and as well as finding a traitor that had been stealing from the Vandenreich the financial department decided to reward Edward with a small bonus alongside his regular pay. She handed him over a check with a substantial amount of Ryo for him on it and excused her self. Edward felt happy knowing that he had gotten his soldiers their proper pay and that he had gotten himself a nice little bonus out of it, now it was time for a nap.
Edward was looking over the documents that had been brought to his desk, something was off in the budget and he took it upon himself to figure out where the discrepancy had occurred. This had been brought up to his attention the other day when a subordinate had informed him that their pay had been delayed.
