The orders were simple and easy. Miranda would dive into the depths of the wilderness outside the Rukongai an investigate a strange report sent in. Normally this kind of job wouldn’t fall upon one of squad 10, but her superiors thought it beneficial for those of lower ranks in her division to gain experience. After all, there weren’t many opportunities to do so for a defense squad in a relatively quiet era. Still, Miranda couldn’t shake the familiar feeling the task gave her. The feeling knawed at her, warning her to stay away, to let another take the task.
But that wasn’t in Miranda’s nature. She grinned, staring at the thick forest ahead of her. No, if her feelings were correct, why leave this job to another? How much better would they fare than she? Miranda’s hands brushed away the pale locks of hair that fell over her eyes, that steel grey eyes of hers reaching deep into woods. Of the unseated population of her division, she was among the strongest. This job was for her and whatever she’d find in the shadow of the seemingly forever reaching canopies would be hers to deal with, for better or for worse.
She took her first step into the forest’s entrance, the place where a suspicious being had been sighted. Reports state that it was humanoid in nature, but wasn’t like the normal beastclansman that pass through here occasionally. If it wasn’t that, what else could it be? Many of the villagers nearby wouldn’t dare step from the safety of their borders, while the others would travel in packs to ensure safety. Miranda’s brow furrowed in concern. She wasn’t granted that particular luxury this time. With as big as the Gotei 13 was, their realm of control and the number of objectives they’d have to handle seemed way too much considering the manpower the organization could field.
Miranda sighed and gripped at her right sleeves edge. She couldn’t shake the eery feeling this task gave her. It sank deep into her stomach and sat there like a heavy stone. Miranda needed insurance of any kind, but now the only thing she could do is mark her position should things go awry. She tore at the sleeve and dropped the fragment to the ground. Should something happen to her, god forbid, the little trail would be all that an investigation team would need to follow her trail. With her starting position marked, the Unseated member of squad 10 began her search.
{Spoiler}{Techniques and stuff} Mastered Techniques
Shunpo [Shunpo (Flash Steps)] Class: 7 Technique Type: Kido Technique Element: None Technique Description and Effects: A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The focal point that determines the bases of this technique is speed. As speed is the main point of the technique the method is best characterized by how fast one can get from point A to point B in the least amount of steps. Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Shunpo can move; those of little skill in the technique or those who haven't used it an extended amount of time would obviously be out of practice, causing those individuals to be considerably slower, which requires the use of more steps to move the same distance and become winded far easier in a shorter amount of time. A single step magnifies speed for that step by 10 times. Uses 50 Reiatsu per step. This one is automatically learned in the academy. ALL Shinigami know this when created. This technique does not take up a technique slot.
How to use technique: A focus of reishi around the feet area, and then launching off into a single step which blurs, not unlike teleportation in appearance, except it is simply extremely fast movement. Often used to gain an edge in a single moment of combat, or to dodge incoming attacks.
Hado #1 Sho Technique Name: Hado #1: Shō (Thrust) Class: 7 Technique Type: Kido Technique Element: None Technique Description and Effects: This technique creates a simple burst of force that pushes at the opponent backwards. The force is equal to the user’s Reiatsu Strength. How to use technique: Speak the spell and point hand at the target.
Incantation and Effect: Incantation unknown. When the incantation is spoken, the Reiatsu Strength used to determine the power of Sho is increased by 10%. (i.e. 100 Reiatsu Strength is treated as 110.)
Class: 7 Technique Type: Kido Technique Element: Thunder Technique Description and Effects: The user fires a concentrated, powerful lightning bolt from their finger that pierces a target. How to use technique: Speak the spell and point hand at the target.
Incantation and Effect: "Arise god of thunder! Awake mother of storms! Unleash the lighting on the sinners!" When the incantation is spoken, the Reiatsu Strength used to determine the power of Byakurai is increased by 10%. (i.e. 100 Reiatsu Strength is treated as 110.)
Technique Description and Effects: This technique is a more powerful version of Hado #31, releasing a fireball of blue flames that’s about half as large as an average person in size. The impact of this fireball leaves first-degree burns upon impact, and has more impact force than Hado #31.
How to use technique: Speak the spell and point hand towards the target.
Incantation and Effect: “Ye lord! Mask of flesh and bone, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws!” With the incantation, this spell gets a 20% increase in Reiatsu Strength (i.e. if Reiatsu Strength is 100, this is treated as 120 with incantation).

Mariposa enjoyed the intense spiritual saturation of Soul Society, letting the warm breeze brush her ashen skin as she sat high above the ground on a thick branch. Her supple frame barely caused the branch to bend under her weight, and as she slowly opened her dark eyes, she realized that someone was approaching. It was not through her own senses of course - her spy-moths were already deployed all around the forest, and she was more than capable of monitoring the area through her Pesquisa with their help. She was here to gather information after all, hopefully on the hated squad twelve who tried to drag her off before she became what she is now...she assumed that they still possessed a clear interest in abducting her - dispersing her Reiatsu was one way to manipulate the odds of a delegation being sent out to her favor.
She found it curious that they have sent out a lone Shinigami to fight against her, especially after the brutal incursion against Hueco Mundo. This one didn’t even bear the insigniae of an officer for that matter, and her Reiatsu seemed vastly inferior, even in her unreleased state. How could she be useful for her plans, if at all? Would it make sense to abduct her, like that one sweet Shinigami she sought to keep for herself before those filthy Quincy stifled her plans? She was weaker for sure, but she had other interesting qualities that would make her a possible target.
The mere fact that she was sent out alone could mean a few things already. Maybe she was an ambitious one - she definitely had the determination in her eyes, and more importantly, the look of a young prodigy. The mere fact that her gorgeous looks made her swoon a little was something that disturbed her on a deeper level. While she definitely had some dark urges in her Hollow state, becoming an Arrancar had caused a freak shift in her romantic interests and an unhealthy obsession with the female sex. This was even more prominent during her Resurrección, and she dreaded her release because of it - not only did her attractions become fiendishly overbearing, possibly clouding her judgement, but they were almost invariably prove fatal to the subject of her attraction since she placed great care to keep the nature of her release hidden. A distasteful prospect at best for someone who has woved to avoid violence as much as possible, despite the quarrelsome reputation of her race.
And that’s what she intended to do. While she had only marginally succeeded in suppressing her Reiatsu, she knew that her prey would be too inexperienced to know the quiet technique she was going to use to conceal her approach. Sin Sonído - a simple, yet almost intimidating example of Arrancar ingenuity, a step technique devoid of the namesake sound - one that would make the user simply appear next to another...or even behind them, as it was in this case. If Miranda would indeed not notice her approach as she had predicted, she would place her cold, small hands on hers, whispering a word of warning into her ears as sought to dissuade her from taking the path of violence. “Don’t move. If you as much as touch that Zanpakutou, I’ll tear you apart” she said in a monotous voice, as if she was stating a mere fact. Her sinister Reiatsu would permeate Miranda’s very being, leaving no doubt that she was an Arrancar, and a strong one at that.

Miranda’s gut screamed like you wouldn’t believe. It was that feeling of someone burning two eye-sized holes in the back of her head, except from all directions it seemed. There was something here for sure, but damn was it hard to pinpoint just exactly where it is. She kept her composure calm and natural, continuing her stroll through the dense foliage. Her head slowly glanced about her surroundings, grey eyes scanning the branches. Who ever was there hid well physically, but spiritually? Frost could track traces of the being’s presence. She had found her objective.
And the objective found her. As that feint reiatsu signature vanished, her hand instinctively flinched, her sword hand reaching for her blade. It would never reach it. A cold hand touched her own and Frost froze. The power was strong, though not as strong as other’s she had faced. Hers was a strength similar to her Lieutenant’s, if only a little bit weaker. As far as the being’s weight upon the world was concerned, it was very much like a hollow’s but different. This wasn’t an intolerable feeling, but the hollow influence within it brought a shiver down the shinigami’s spine.
Frost exhaled slowly. “You’ve my word. I will not draw my blade, not yet.”, she affirmed. She turned her head slightly. “I will make one pace forward and then I will turn to face you. I do not intend to fight.” She spoke as calmly as she could but truth be told her track record on these missions were not good. Miranda recalled her first mission ever being similar to this one, only she had a team with her. Only she survived the encounter, but only by goodwill will of the hollow the patrol stumbled upon. She didn’t expect lightning to strike the same place twice. She didn’t expect to be shown mercy again.
Still, there was no need to fight if it could be avoided. In fact, her orders stated that she avoid danger if possible. She was to obtain a visual of the being in question and return to confirm the report. Miranda didn’t expect to get too close. “I am moving now. Stay your hand for a time, if you would.”, she requested before stepping forward, her movements slow and easy to read. One pace later she turned on her heel, her arms slowly, and loosely, crossing before her. The steel of her eyes looked over the being, this arrancar.
It didn’t take much observation to see the arrancar was female. If anything she was a bit surprised on how human-like she appeared, not that she minded. The arrancar was easy on the eyes and the human qualities made it easier to swallow the hefty reiatsu the being put out. “A little aways from home don't you think?”, she mused. Arrancar, Hollow, or no, the best time to kill Miranda was at the point in which she couldn’t pinpoint. She sighed and held a hand to her chest, the flesh contrasting against the black uniform. “My name Is Miranda Frost, Unseated of the Gotei 13, and you are…?”

“You have the hands of a warrior...let’s hope you are not one of those blockheads who’d rather impale themselves upon the point of an enemy’s sword rather than face the possibility to surrender. I have no use for those...no use at all.” she said, before letting go of Miranda’s hands. It seems that she was intent of keeping her word, as she took no offensive action while the Shinigami moved over to face her. She had ample time to punish her trusting attitude with a swift coup-de-grace, and the urge was definitely there for a moment, only suppressed by her superior will - the will that let her shed the hideous caterpillar’s body she possessed as a Hollow and a Gillian, and bloom into this fragile, yet elegant form.
As Miranda faced her she could see that her opponent was, for the most part, a broad white cloak with a pair of eyes peeking out from below a shadowy hood. A servant of Las Noches, an Arrancar-vassal of Sonken Kouhai, the traitorous Shinigami who betrayed his kin to Hollowkind. Her silhouette betrayed the frame of a mere teenage girl, and the softness of her thin-boned hands quickly identified her as someone who only rarely wielded a sword. She nodded in content as Miranda chose to obey her command, but her posture seemed just as stiff as before - as if she was vary about something. She closed her eyes for a moment, seemingly absent-minded - she bared her right hand from within her cloak in a slow, steady fashion, and placed her index finger on her pale grey lips, as if signalling her to remain quiet.
A sudden burst of motion interrupted the stillness, and her hand swung backwards, pointing behind her as she unleashed a small burst of energy, which formed a barely noticable ball-shape before bursting out with an audible bang. It crashed straight into the torso of a shadowy figure - a fellow Shinigami wearing the characteristic shroud of the Onmitsukido, seeking to slay the arrogant Arrancar with a surprise attack. The Bala threw him backward and blew a jagged hole into his chest, causing him to collapse before his body even became aware of his death. “Tch...How rude.” - she retorted, but this was not nearly everything they would throw at her - she jumped backward defensively as more opponents would enter the fray.
A smoke bomb detonated right in front of her feet, filling the area with a greyish fog almost immediately, obscuring both her vision and that of the Shinigami standing in front of her. The characteristic sound of steel clashing with steel was heard, again and again...then a revolting crack of bone, followed by a squish and a death cry that would make anyone feel shivers running down their spine. A burst of dark Reiatsu surged from within the cloud, blowing the smoke away with ease, revealing a grisly scene of destruction. Two more shinobi lay dead at the feet of the small Arrancar - one’s head contorted into an impossible position, the other squarely impaled upon the fragile little hand that had caressed Miranda’s fingers just a brief moment ago.
“Ugh, look at this mess. It seems that someone did not trust you to finish the job alone. A shame, really. I would have preferred to have a polite conversation with one as easy on the eyes as you...but as it stands, I’ll have to take you with me for that to be possible. There’s more of these sparrows around, and it is only a matter of time before a violent throng of your people descends upon me.” she said, while trying to shake off the blood and guts from her appendage and tarnished sleeve. It was evident that she didn’t consider Miranda a threat from the casual way she acted, dishonoring her warrior’s heart and treating her like a mere damsel who didn’t have any say in what was to come.

The arrancar woman would motion for Miranda to quiet, cutting off the ability for her question to be answered. Miranda furrowed her eyes confusingly. Had she sensed something she hadn’t?. Her grey eyes flicked above the moth-like arrancar, focusing on the strangest of shadows formed against the tree. Before she could say anything the shadow was stricken with a modicum, sending it crashing to the forest floor below. Frost recognized that figure to be that of the stealth force. Her left hand took up her blade by the sheath, her right appendage tightening into a firm fist beside her.
Smoke flew and bodies dropped to the cool ground below. Miranda kept her composure, but inside she was swirling with various emotions. She was horrified of the moth’s efficient brutality in handling the situation she was put in. She was angry that she wasn’t told about the stealth’s force’s involvement. She felt ashamed that she could do nothing but keep herself alive by doing nothing. Her teeth ground together and her eyes steeled, falling upon the bloodstained hand of the Arrancar. “I was bait, it seems.”, she realized aloud. Still, something felt oddly familiar about this ordeal and it did not sit well with her stomach.
Miranda made a quick scan over the bodies. Their reiatsu signatures were depleted and gone. They were surely dead, but could she even blame the Arrancar for defending herself? Her eyes rose back to the Arrancar’s own, her eye nearly glowing with anger, not at the moth, no, but at this whole situation. The unseated member was used as a sacrificial lamb again… Again? “......” This has happened before, hasn’t it? The same forest. It was her first mission, wasn’t it? What choice did Miranda have? Go with the Arrancar or die here in the forest. These weren’t good choices. It was clear Miranda had little control in the situation, so she’d have to use what little she had while she had it.
“You flatter me, Ma’am, but I can’t have you take me just yet.” Despite her better judgment it would seem Frost would have to go against her better judgment and fight to defend herself. Her right hand rose to the hilt of her blade and gripped it firmly.“If you want to whisk me away, Moth-girl, you’ll have to put a little work into it.”. Her reiatsu spiked and shot through her veins. Granted she was afraid of releasing. This would be the first time since her failed attempt on the first day in squad ten. It was not pleasant. “Fall from the angel’s mercy, Towaitaro”
Upon command, the blade and sheath melted away into something akin to black flame or mist. The viscous energy clung to her hands, solidifying into black leather gloves with steel-like talons forged at the end of each fingertip. A pulse of her reiatsu formed around her at a fifty-foot radius, her reiatsu forming around the two women. Simultaneously the reiatsu bubble compacted at two positions above each of Miranda’s shoulders, attracting nearby reishi to clump into a pair of dense crystalized spikes about a meter long each. She stood tall with the points of each pilum aiming their points at the arrancar. She could have launched them, but instead chose to wait. “I still haven’t learned your name.”

Miranda’s swirling emotionst weren’t lost on the Arrancar, and there was a certain feeling of disgust creeping up on her when she noticed how the Shinigami must see her now, despite acting in self-defense. Yet she seemed to be one of the more reasonable ones, at least reasonable enough to see how outmatched she is, even with the help of her allies. No, that was not it. She knew about the open secret of the Stealth Force, yet this was the first time that she has faced them in battle. Observing the blood dripping from her hand in solemn melancholy, she mused whether she would have been worse off if she hadn’t seeded the area with her messenger-insects...but ultimately, she was less than impressed by their performance.
And then again, it seems that Miranda wasn’t particularly distressed by seeing these people getting massacred. What was her deal? Does there exist a rivalry so deep between the Squads of the Gotei, that they would render even such a young member unfeeling towards her comrades? Or was it something else entirely? Shinobi did not have a particularly good reputation after all, and existed as quasi-nonpersons during the Tokugawa rule and before, and according to their dresscode and tactics, the Onmitsukido were eerily similar to those almost legendary figures, often portrayed as in league with hellish powers such as the oni of lore.
When Miranda ultimately decided to duke it out instead of submitting to her dominant attitude, she sighed loudly and rolled her eyes in a dramatic fashion. “Here we go again...” - she exclaimed with a slightly annoyed voice, and an expression that betrayed a profound disdain for this turn of events. She crossed her arms and watched as the Shinigami released, quietly observing the transformation of her blade into a pair of clawed gloves, then the condensing of her Reiatsu into crystalline spikes aimed at her. Her eyes moved ever so slightly to size up the threat they posed, but she didn’t deem them dangerous enough to change her stance into a more active one.
After hearing her question, Mariposa shrugged her shoulders and answered her with a carefree expression on her face. “Eh, there ain’t much point in hiding it, since your bureaucrats undoubtedly have a file on me already. Arrancar Trece, Mariposa Serrato. Don’t worry about the number...the misfortune attributed to it is just superstition, after all.” She took a step forward, and removed the hood of her cloak to reveal the face of a young, tender teenage girl, her skin as grey as smoke, with warm, black eyes and chin-long hair with jagged edges. To think that something as tender and frail as her could have such a monstrous, smothering Reiatsu - Arrancar transformation must be truly formidable.
“Well, if you want to get hurt, don’t let me stop you.”
(OOC: Fight Music) Miranda was shocked at how human-like Serrato was. Her skin looked as soft as her freshly cleaned sheets and her hair appeared as fragile as thin ice. However, her eyes were as dark as the oppressive reiatsu that intermingled with her own. It was true the Arrancar lady's spiritual strength was greater than her own, but there was still a glimmer of hope. It didn't drown hers completely and her shikai seemed to be responsive enough to operate. She grinned defiantly, shining claws combing back the hair from her eyes if only to give Miranda a better view of the Arrancar.
"Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Serrato.", Miranda replied, Bowing her head slightly to the moth woman as she took a step forward. Miranda answered with a step of her own, in the opposite direction. There was only a handful of feet between the two. A step and an outstretched arm could touch Serrato and the same applied to herself. Still, though, something was quite off with this woman. She killed the shinobi without much consideration with their well being yet she seemed to be keeping herself from attacking Miranda, for the time being. The moth had let it be known Miranda was to be taken alive, but to be allowed to release was something she didn't expect.
Her fists flexed, the gloves' leather creaking in an unatural manner. She felt its powers ebb from her fingertips, but something seemed off, seemed different from when she first achieved it. Before, it felt incomplete, but as she faced down the danger that threatened to consume her very being, she could feel it slowly change. It was subtle, almost too subtle for her to notice, but the changes lay just beneath the surface of the mass of reiatsu it sent out. A desire to persist and a stubborn attitude buzzed in her grip.
"No worries. If victory is to be achieved, I expect to earn it.", She laughed and sent the shards flying at full speed towards the woman, the constructs splitting the air with minimal resistance with one of the two aimed at the Arrancar's shoulder, and the other aimed downward at her thigh with both at a speed of 600. Should they miss, Miranda will not let them embed themselves in the ground nor exit the area unless the arrancar did something to ensure this act. Instead, she'll have them circle just within her area of influence maintaining their speed until she requires them again. The projectiles were quite speedy and gave no tell that they were being propelled, at least none that the Arrancar could sense. Miranda assumed at this range, she would be forced to react, and react fast. The nature of the hierro was a curious subject, but even a knight in plate armor would do well not to ignore dense objects hurled at proficient speeds, lest their armor be bent.
Should the two bolts of crystalized reishi fail to do their job, Miranda needed a backup plan. As soon as the two projectiles were fired she sprung forward, a singling claw reaching for Serrato's neck, the other looking to grapple with her arm. If successful she'd apply enough pressure only to hold onto those two positions. If she as much as touches her in those or whatever place her gloves may touch, she will leave traces of her reiatsu stuck to that particular place. For safe measure, a clump of her reiatsu formed behind her about a foot. Nothing marked its location, save for the small clump of frosty crystal suspended in midair. Should she appear to move backward, Miranda will side step and trigger the floating mine, sending the 6-foot long crystal spike hidden within hurdling forth from that small position towards Serrato at a speed of 800.
OOC: Whew. A lot to put here -125 for Stalagtite Mine -Cold Shoulder attempted. If successful cost and effect will start on my next post. -Durability of the two non-tech constructs is 101 -Durability of the mine and the contained construct is 203 -750/1150 Reiatsu remaining -I noticed you used a few techniques before this engagement. Be sure to include their cost in your reiatsu total. those do count ^^ If you notice me slip, be sure to let me know!

For a moment, Mariposa considered how satisfying it would be to shatter that cheerful confidence of the girl, since “every smile is just a frown waiting to be turned upside down”...she quickly subdued her emotions however and focused on the attack the young officer launched. Not deeming the pila noteworthy enough to put real effort into dodging them - their speed would have made it difficult and stressful anyways, and considering the much tamer Reiatsu she felt that they were more an annoyance than the real attack - the two crystalline weapons smashed into her body, forcing her to regain her footing but shattering upon the seemingly impenetrable bastion that was her Hierro.
She braced herself for the real attack, the one delivered by her opponent’s own hands - she paid no heed to the knot of Reiatsu behind her back, choosing instead to accept the grappling attempt and grab the clawed hand with her own, interlocking fingers with the slightly slower opponent. It wasn’t an overly violent motion, nor some fancy martial arts grab - furthermore, Miranda was strong enough to push the petite hand back next to the Arrancar’s chest. She immediately felt the cold numbing her fingers and looked upon the display with a mixture of curiosity and appreciation. “That’s...interesting. You should be careful though, exposing yourself like this - you might run into a concealed knife."
The Arrancar braced herself and a roaring ball of energy formed in her other hand, glowing with a baleful, dark purple hue. “Cero” she stated, warning her opponent and giving her ample time to dodge - and as she would, she’d dissolve the Cero instead, making it disperse within her body, seemingly without a trace. This technique, Cero Stigmata, was a personal creation of hers, one that she would, in time share with the Espada as a measure of effective self defense. If the young officer (or perhaps one of her hidden allies) would somehow be able to breach her Hierro, she would likely do it from close range with those gloves of hers - and suffer retaliation that would forever make her think twice before engaging a fragile Arrancar in melee.
And yet, she stood there again, stoic as before. She could have easily given the girl a run for her money with a Bala or two, but not only would every hit from those would likely cause nasty burns and lacerations which would make the aftermath much less smooth, she also had to watch her reserves for the cavalry that would undoubtedly arrive on short notice. She tilted her head sidewards and flexed her frostbitten hand to stop the progression of Miranda’s ability, and asked her a defiant question. “How long do you intend to defy me? Or rather, how long do you think I’ll let you play on? Don’t get me wrong, I do very much enjoy to see you prance about, but to be honest, I’m not too keen of waiting until the messengers return with reinforcements.”

The Moth, however appearing to be frail had flesh as hard as the highest quality steel from her home village. She hadn’t expected the pilum to penetrate deep, but she had hope for as much as a scratch. Unfortunately, when the shards of the two constructs faded back into the dome of dense reiatsu, Frost would find the flesh in which she had stricken as flawless as it was prior. Her hand was caught and redirected not by the Moth-girl’s own strength, but by slightly manipulating Miranda’s own committed momentum.
Still, though, she was successful in planting the seed of her crystal growth, just not in the place she needed. Miranda frowned in concern. She was well aware of the wittling of her own reserves of power. Already she could feel her breath quickening and her sweat forming upon her brow. She was not done, not yet, but she was made aware of how inexperienced she was with her own Shikai. The drain was just too much it seemed. Frost would have to learn to deal with it in the future if she survived that is.
The steel of her eyes flicked to the dangerous beauty of a cero’s light forming in the free palm of her opponent. Rather than flee, she doubled down on the slight advantage she held over the arrancar, her strength. Her claw’s grip tightened around Serrato’s hand, keeping it still as the other moved to grasp the shoulder in which it was attached. While the cero charged, Miranda pulled the captured arm down and out, blocking the cero’s trajectory with the woman’s own body, but the beam would never come.
“Hm?”, she audibly inquired, curious onto where the dense portion of energy went. At first, she sensed its buildup then it vanished, seemingly going nowhere. Perhaps it was dismissed? No. Something built to that degree couldn’t be dismissed on a whim like that. This was too quick. Where did that energy go? Her brow furrowed. She felt the moth tense her hand but Miranda answered in kind, keeping it still as her digits clenched their interlocking digits together, thus negating such resistance and allowing the growth to grow unimpeded.
Beautiful as the constructs before, the encroaching crystal covered her fingers and spread out over her arm in a rapid pace, solidifying as the crystal claimed the Arrancar’s arm. Miranda gritted her teeth, shocked on how fast this technique worked. “There are comrades that depend upon me. I’d be a terrible soldier if I just let myself be taken. “, she answered, her frown melting into a soft smile. The ice-like crystal just surpassed her shoulders at this point, moving closer and closer to its goal, the end of this battle.
The end was near, but fear could be felt within the depths of her aura. Upon inspection, Miranda recognized the fear as not her own, but her Zanpakuto's. It feared the end of the battle but why? Peace and calm followed, not matter what the outcome, so why was Towaitoro afraid? Her brow furrowed, attempting to shake off the feeling as a mild annoyance, but Towaitoro was more persistent than she anticipated. As aggressive as the crystal that grew upon Serrato's flesh, so to was her blade's desperation. She had to continue, no matter the fatigue, no matter what exhaustion and pain would behold Frost.
Miranda bit her lip, trailing the structure’s progress as it traveled up the arrancar’s neck and head. “You seem reasonable. Had the roles been reversed, would you not put up a fight?.”, she sighed, her hand letting go finally. She stepped back, another pair of crystal pilum forming at her shoulders, their points trained on Serrato. “Worry not, Lady Serrato. In your favor or mine, this duel will end soon. If I lose I will allow myself to be taken. If I am victorious, however…”
She glanced out towards the trees, feeling two weak reiatsu signatures slowly closing on their position. They were still a ways out, but they were indeed getting closer, no doubt sensing their fight. “I will make sure you are not captured.” Upon her final word the crystal completely encapsulated Serrato’s head, blocking out her sight, hearing, sense of smell, and the ability to breath. The end of the struggle was nigh, and Miranda had the gut-wrenching feeling that it wouldn’t be in her favor.
OOC: -Resistance attempt thwarted, allowing Cold Shoulder to cover 25% of Serrato's body. That entire arm, the attached shoulder, and the portion of the chest and back beneath that shoulder, as well as the entirety of her neck and head, are inflicted. Due to the durability of the crystal covering the joints of the affected area, such things cannot be moved without breaking the crystal in those points. -Suffocation begins upon your next post and will take 3 (of your) turns total. - 550 reiatsu remaining -note that your remaining reiatsu should be at 750 to take into account Sin Sonido. seems you already accounted for the bala. -again if you have questions let me know ^^

“If the roles were reversed, I would have let my comrades die and retreat the instant I felt I had no chance. It seems you still need to learn the valuable lesson when to retreat - if you live long enough, that is.” Mariposa retorted, calmly observing as the Shikai of Miranda took hold of her and started encroaching upon her arm, numbing the appendage as the icy growth moved up towards her shoulder. Her Reiatsu was constant and as calm as a mountain lake in winter - there was no doubt that she didn’t feel threatened by the show of finesse from her opponent, seeking to put her already agitated advesary even further on the edge. “I’d not do that, if I were you...unless your intention is to aggravate me before we depart” she added coldly before her mouth froze over.
The last thing Miranda would see from her sealed form was the pair of dark, warm eyes that froze over as her ability had encased the Arrancar’s head completely. In the same instant, a purple sphinxmoth from before would land on the Shinigami’s ear, and flutter its wings softly before starting to speak in the owner’s voice. “I see. I would have rather avoided this outcome, but you leave me no choice after all…” Her Reiatsu started to ripple with a darkness yet unseen, and the surge of power would soon spike so terribly that the entire surrounding forest started to tremble with the power of the Arrancar’s monstrous release, and cracks began to form upon the icy coffin that encased her fragile form as it grew into something truly intimidating.
The true form of Mariposa would soon unveil itself as an unnerving, yet immensely alluring moth-human hybrid covered in Hollow porcelain and patches of fine, white hairs akin to those on the real thing. Her little hands which were clutched by Miranda’s clawed gloves grew a set of tapered, long claws of her own, brushing up neatly on the back of the Shinigami’s hand. An additional pair of arms formed just below the first, both of them pulling Miranda closer to herself by grabbing firmly onto her hip with a strength that now surpassed her own. The shoulder that was formerly sealed in frost would shatter its prison as a pair of large, triangular wings erupted from it, dropping to the ground like a massive cloak, then rising up to display their splendid, hypnotizing patterns. Within the hazy angles of the crystalline case, a pair of compound eyes started to glow balefully while long, serrated antennae bursted the prison open before sloping down upon her now white and full hair.
Her glowing eyes grew wide as the release had freed her from her prison - and so did the smile that was all but unseen until now. She grinned like a hungry wolf staring down on a wounded lamb, but the consciousness behind it made it all the much worse. “Aww, you are awfully cute when you are afraid. I can’t wait to play with you!” she spoke, her voice warped, distorted and echoing through her release before a pointy, dark tongue licked along her pale white lips in unnerving anticipation. It seems that her release turned her personality upside down - what was calm and collected became excited and playful, with a sinister undertone that brushed away any need for consent to the games she would like to play.
And yet, there was at least a shred of hope for Miranda. She could feel the urge to become entranced by the mesmerizing patterns on Mariposa’s wings, but the strength of her will would allow her to look away, unlike many other lesser enemies. And despite the firm grip the Arrancar now displayed which held her trapped,, she still had a pair of allies closing in on their position, and more powerful Reiatsu signatures sparked up in the distance, one belonging to a Vice Captain at least. Together, they could bring the monstrous being down - together, they could chain and drag away this sinister advesary to the Maggot’s Lair where it would rot in perpetual darkness until being called upon.
Mariposa would not allow for something like that, however. The two Shinigami seemed to be comrades as they attacked in unison - a chain of yellow lightning wrapped itself upon the Arrancar’s right wing-pair, jerking her body backwards while the other had released a red ball of explosive power to obliterate their target. The younger male seemed to be an expert in Kidou, as he cast the spell at full force without saying a single word, startling the Arrancar just enough to turn to the defense. Something seemed off in the entire exchange however - it almost seemed like they had given up on Miranda, as the young officer had fired his destructive power without regarding the safety of the trapped female.
The Arrancar lifted Miranda up by her hips and sent a ripple of Reiatsu through the frail binding spell that made the chain-links shatter in an instant, freeing her trapped wings. Instead of darting away however she pulled them forward to encase the captive Shinigami, their tips brushing below Miranda’s heels - and with one of her clawed, jet-black hands covering the face of her captive, she made sure that she was covered from head to toe and would not be injured by the blast that shone through the translucent wings of the Arrancar as it smashed against them with a force that blasted a charred hole in the surrounding earth.
“How dare you interrupt me...She’s M I N E! I’ll not her let go, even if I have to murder each and every one of you! DIE!” - she shouted with unbridled hatred as she pierced her own wing with one of her tapered fingers and fired a massive Cero through the hole that would obliterate both of them in a single swoop, leaving nothing but charred remains behind as it fell a quarter mile of trees behind the deceased pair. Miranda could feel the vicious Reiatsu ripple through her body in a nauseating fashion - there was no telling what this being could do if angered further, as the brief surge in power indicated that it would be enough to threaten not only a Lieutenant, but possibly even a Captain with it’s raw power if it was able to evolve.
Her antennae perked up slightly as she felt the stronger Shinigami close in upon their position. There was no time to enjoy her victory here - she cradled her captive to herself, shattering the crystalline pilums formed by Miranda’s Shikai with a single brush of her wing-tip. It seems that her Hierro extended to these aswell, seeing how easily she deflected the friendly fire blast that would have caused massive burns on Miranda’s body. Valuable information, along with the freakish personality shift...in the unlikely event that Miranda would be able to return to Soul Society, she could definitely impress her superiors with this expansion on the dossier of the Espada and their Fracción.
Her problems were more immediate however - she could tell that there was no reason to struggle anymore, as the mere strength and density of Mariposa’s clawed fingers would be enough to rip her apart in a few moments, even though the graceful appendages moved about in a less hostile and more...posessive manner around her. Where the previous form seemed to be almost repulsed by the notion of touching, this one was the stark opposite, seeking as much skin contact as possible, forcing a close embrace while holding Miranda’s wrists captive to prevent the usage of her freezing powers. One of the inky hands cradled the snow white head of the Shinigami as she was pulled closer, while another moved up to her face and put a finger on her closed lips. “Hush now...it’s time to go. Don’t worry - there’ll be no pain, I promise!”
From below her wings, a myriad of purple sphinxmoths fluttered forward, forming a swirling cloud around the both of them, closing in rapidly upon the captive Shinigami, latching onto her body. Their wings shedded a damp, sweet-smelling powder that stuck to her dark clothes and skin, and she could immediately feel her eyelids grow heavier as the large, docile insects covered as much of her as they could, sapping her strength and pulling her deeper into a forced slumber. “Rest, my brave little warrior...Surrender...there’s no need to struggle anymore. You don’t want more of your allies to end up like these, do you?” - she asked in a hushed voice, looking deeply into Miranda’s eyes from up close, letting her gaze drown in those luminous disks of hers, her nose almost touching that of the Shinigami she held captive.

“Come on! Come on! We are so close. So close. Just a little longer. Go to sleep Serrato. Go to-” She thought frantically, the steel of her eyes viewing the many facets of the crystal statue she created. Miranda didn’t think she was going to achieve victory. The Arrancar’s power was comparable to her Lieutenants, if only a little weaker. The cold words Ms. Serrato had spoken before the crystal casket closed was harrowing. It was then she’d feel the soft touch of a single moth landing upon the curve of her ear.
“I See. I would have rather avoided this outcome, but you leave me no choice after all…”
Miranda froze, her eyes watching the alluring glow slowly pierce through the ice-like crystal. “No.”, she muttered. She could still flee. If she moved right now, she could put enough distance between the two to get away. After all, Ms. Serrato could only get so close to the rukongai before the various squads on patrol would notice the anomaly caused by her strong reiatsu. She could move that instant, yet she remained still. It would seem her hand couldn’t be pulled free so easily. This blunder born of inexperience with her own power would be her downfall.
Like the creature the Arrancar was based on, Ms. Serrato emerged from the crystal cocoon, one part after another. In the blink of an eye the crystal growth that still clung helplessly to the moth was set to a state in which it no longer hindered her. Multiple arms were revealed, each clinging firmly yet delicately to Miranda’s frame. Frost’s words choked and she resisted, not that it did much good. The stubbornness in her heart refused to accept this defeat, but her mind knew otherwise. She had lost the moment She decided to stand her ground.
“Please, let me go.”, she muttered, Finding it rather difficult to affix her eyes away from Ms. Serrato. From the beautiful, snow white hair to the alluring patterns swirling about the Moth-woman’s wings. It took all she had to merely glance away, but even then she didn’t go unaffected. Her useless squirming against the strong hands and claws securing the shinigami ceased. “Please, Let me go, Serrato-san.” Stern words without the weight needed to make them effective. Her cool was becoming compromised, but who could blame her. If Ms. Serrato willed it, Miranda would be dead like the shinobi corpses nearby or perhaps like the pair that approached swiftly to her aide.
“Please don’t hurt them.”, She begged, but the moth wouldn’t hear those words. The predator took action to protect her prey, her new collectible to keep to herself. These shinigami threatened her. Hell, one seemed more powerful than even Frost, but she had already seen this dance before. Ms. Serrato had given Miranda mercy, and it would be possible if they just let the two be. Surely Ms. Serrato had felt their approach, yet she did nothing to counter their course. Frost was forced to watch as they angered the Moth, but her vision was blocked as she shielded the defeated one, keeping her safe from what they threw at her.
Miranda’s eyes widened. She needn’t see what the lieutenant was doing. She felt the powerful surge of his kido spell just prior to his firing. Lethal and hot, the spell would undoubtedly killed her if not maimed her. Were they not here to rescue her? Was her situation so dire that they would give up so soon on her rescue? Why would they result in deadly force without first separating Miranda from the moth? Ms. Serrato was indeed lieutenant level as was one among the pair that challenged her now. Did a comrade’s life mean nothing to him?
Doubt washed over her, and then despair. Five of her comrades and died in her presence. She could almost feel the dampness of their blood upon her fingers. Her shikai was still active, she could have helped them, but instead didn’t. Her cool demeanor and strength of will were not enough against the despairing weight of defeat and the vow that Frost had given Ms. Serrato. This wasn’t the first time her actions were hindered by her own sense of honor, and it seemed it wouldn’t be the last.
Her heart pounded hard inside her chest, the pulse Ms. Serrato would no doubt feel given their proximity. For the first time in decades, tears streamed down her face for those horrible deaths. The guilt hung low upon her heart, but there was nothing she could do, not yet. She forced a smile and closed her eyes. She was afraid of the road ahead of her, but not of the one that was dragging her down that particular path. Ms. Serrato had won their bout without lifting her finger when she could have. She protected her from the kido when it posed no threat to the Arrancar.
Twisted as the situation was, Miranda was now indebted. As the moths covered Frost, she felt a disturbing sense of calm wash over her. “No. I don’t want to sleep”, her mind protested, but the exhaustion was a bit much for her. The embrace felt warm and welcome. Her mind muddled and the pain from her strained muscles eased away. As if floating on a cloud, her relaxed against the arms that held her close. “P-please don’t.. H-hurt a-any more of t-them”, she begged, fighting the sleep to the best of her ability. As she was forced to look into the pale eyes of her captor, he vision blurred, her steel grey eyes slowly drooping shut.
Her body fell before her mind did, and soon the Shinigami woman fell into a dreamless sleep, yet a presence in her mind persisted. The dragon within her blade roared in her mind, fighting the sleep that become Miranda. In her unconciousness, she felt Towaitoro's fire burn in her hands as it sapped what little of Reiatsu it could from its owner to stay active. Miranda began to understand its persistence, its fear. To be sealed away was to be forced back into the depths of Frost's soul, where its only source of interaction with her world would be through subtle manipulations. It had decided that it would no longer be its prison. It would not longer be Her prison. Nay. Towaitoro would persist. Towaitoro would deny. Towaitoro was here to last. This was not only her future's twilight, but her wielder's. As Miranda's consciousness drifted further and further away into mindless oblivion...
Miranda's Twilight remained.

As the darkness finally took hold of the young Shinigami she entered a comatose, dreamless sleep weighing as heavy on her as a leaden cloak With no sense of how much time had passed while she was staring into oblivion, she awoke to a startling, distant choir of screams that would send chills down the spine of any seasoned Soul Reaper. Massive, skeletal trees made from solid crystal rose towering from the ground in this place of eternal night, and she would sit on a wide branch high above the dreadful depths where a myriad of eyes glared back at her from the gloomy distance. There could be no doubt - this was the Forest of Menos, a place where the strongest Hollows known to Soul Society coalesced from the countless cycles of consumption.
Perhaps even more startling than the location itself was that below them lied a damp graveyard of steaming, discarded bodies of misshapen beasts. The Hollows below gave a wide berth to the ring of slaughter - what would be the reason that Mariposa didn’t take her back to Las Noches and came to this wild place instead, where she had to fight droves of these fiends just to be left alone with her prey? There was no telling, but as Miranda arose from her deathlike slumber, the sphinxmoths lining the entirety of the branch started glowing with a bright purple light, almost as if welcoming her. If this was to be the place of her passing, at least her last minutes will be filled with beauty, even if it is eerie at best.
“Good morning, sunshine…” - Mariposa whispered gleefully, while cradling the Shinigami closer to her supple bosom. She cusped and turned her head upwards with her clawed hands and gave a kiss on her forehead. The moth-arrancar felt soft and nice to the touch, especially the tufts of silken white fur adorning her neck and wrists which caressed Miranda’s neck as she held her captive. The other pair of hands moved unseen below her untied uniform, touching the naked skin on her abdomen like a gentle lover - or a merciless killer threatening to disembowel her. Mariposa’s Reiatsu had calmed down from the smothering, whirling maelstrom it was before, but the darkness it exuded was still dreadful, especially up close like this. The struggle in the wilderness has come to an end - but perhaps a new one would soon begin.
“Now, my sweet little doll...tell me all you know about that Division Twelve of yours. If you behave, I promise...we’ll play a very, very nice game afterwards.”
