Beast placed the keys into the door and it opened to him without trouble. Relieved, he pocketed both of them and as the door began to close again he hurried into it to get into the next stairwell. Starting the climb upwards, he felt more of his strength and speed returning to him as he pushed further on towards the exit of this Nest of Maggots. He also felt more of his spiritual energy restored as he climbed for five minutes. That would help him the most, perhaps. He had to be conservative in the floors to come, for sure, but having more reiatsu to work with would definitely not be a bad thing.
When he got to the top of the stairs and found himself in another stupid maze or labyrinth or whatever you wanted to call it, he immediately got incredibly frustrated. Testing his new strength on the bricks, he took a swing on the wall in front of him. He refused to go left or right until he knew that he couldn't just go straight through the walls. He didn't know how much of his strength had been restored until he tested it out, and what better way to test it out than slug a wall?
The moment beast hit the wall with his fist he would find that a force would send him flying backwards almost down the stair. This force came from where the punch hit. It seemed that any sort of attack against the walls would result in an equal force coming at the attacker. While it wasn’t enough to hurt beast, he would find that his arm was now totally numb and unresponsive. Was the numbness from the force that struck back or was it another property of the wall itself? Beast would have time to try and figure it out as there was only one way to proceed, and that was to try and solve the maze.
Deeper in the maze a loud scream echoed out for a moment before being silenced. There would be a sound of loud crunching and chewing for a moment. As the crunching and chewing ended there would be the echo of heavy hooves taking steps from the left passage way. The right passage seemed to be totally silent. It was up to beast if he wanted to meet whatever was making all that noise or if he wanted to simply try and avoid it.
Punching the wall was a bad idea. Now Beast's whole arm was numb and unresponsive. Not one to give up so easily though, Beast started flexing will all of his superhuman might to get some sort of blood flowing to that arm to counteract whatever had just happened to it. When he heard the sound of crunching and chewing, though, he realized another gatekeeper was close. One that was probably significantly more powerful than the previous ones, but one he needed to take down if he was going to get out of here in a timely fashion. So, against his better judgement, probably a worse idea than punching the wall, he headed towards the crunching and chewing sound, still massaging his numb arm to try and get it working again.
The closer beast got to the sound of crunching and mashing bones the more the light of the labyrinth started to turn to a deep red. Whether this was part of the power of the warden or if this was an effect built into the maggots nest was unknown. One thing was clear about this light, for whatever reason it seemed that the redder the light became the more the hairs on the back of beast’s neck would stand up. A sense of dread would start to fill the back of his mind. Turning around a corner Beast would find a sight that he had seen in the last floor. There walking down another path was another prisoner.
This prisoner unlike the others seemed to be fine and even healthy, however as he crossed what seemed to be a square opening to go north the floor under him turned black for a moment. A few seconds later the floor would vanish around the prisoner and the man would fall into a pit of spikes. Beast would hear the sound of screams before a thud, the pit would stay open long enough for beast to peak down if he so wished. In the pit if he looked he would see that there were several bodies all impaled on the spikes. Some clearly very old as they had been reduced to skeletons.
It was clear that this labyrinth’s only danger wouldn’t be the warden. If Beast continued down the path towards the mashing bones he come across what had been making those noises. There sitting down in a circular room with several other corridors leading into it was a massive half bull half man creature. The body sitting down almost reached the ceiling of the labyrinth. Beast would be able to finally see what the creature was eating, next to the monstrosity was a pile of bodies and every so often it’s arm would reach over to grab one and the sound of chewing would begin once more.
As he rounded a corner and watched a prisoner fall into a spike trap, Beast just shook his head. Not only had there been a few second pause in between the panel changing color and the trap opening, but a sufficiently powerful soul should simply been able to jump off of Advanced Air Ground once the falling started occurring. Beast continued walking down the hall, avoiding any panels that turned black and/or jumping off of the air if need be. Upon entering the central room with the gatekeeper, Beast knew he'd be in for a good fight. But the bigger they are... right?
Head held high, Beast just attempted to walk right into the room with this minotaur. Good arm held up in a defensive stance made out of a mixture of boxing and hakuda, the Wraith was ready for anything at this point.
The gnawing sounds of bones being crunched and flesh being swallowed would come to a halt as soon as beast entered the room. The large minotaur’s nose would sniff at the air smelling the scent of fresh prey that willingly came into his lair. The massive beast would lick it’s lips as it slowly stood up the horns of the monstrosity scrapped the ceiling of the labyrinth. As it turned around the sounds of metal scrapping stone echoed into the maze. It would only be once it faced Beast that the hollow wraith could see that this monster was blind.
The eyes of the minotaur were carved out and the flesh around it’s eye sockets were slowly rotting away. Lowering it’s self to all fours the minotaur started to charge head first towards where it had smelt the intruder. As it ran attempting to gore Beast the speed of it was slower than Beast however each step it took cracked and broke the stone under his strength and weight. Being hit by the monster was surly a death sentence.
Beast could see the minotaur charging him blindly, lowering his massive ceiling-scraping body to do so. The logical response to this would be to run as this creature cracked the ground with every step. Beast, however, was not very logical. He instead planned on getting up a floor by getting this creature to break the ceiling. Somehow. As the minotaur charged him, he noticed it was slower than him, which would help tremendously. When his opponent got within 50 meters of him, Beast would exude a predator aura even though he was sure to be drained of reiatsu quite quickly from it. It was going to be necessary though. Using the Dark Wild Arts Hakuda technique, Beast suddenly became a scary scent and aura towards any around him, including the minotaur.
When it got closer, Beast would leap with all his considerable might to try and get over his opponent. He tried to use Advanced Air ground to jump again to make sure that he'd get high enough, and if he was just barely able to get over he'd try and kick the minotaur in the back of the head to get it even more riled up. He needed the minotaur to try and thrust upwards quickly and powerfully in an attempt to break through the ceiling and allow Beast access to the higher floor of the Nest.
The moment that beast had used the dark wild arts to change is aura and his scent was the moment that the minotaur increased its pace. Instead of moving at a slow pace it instantly speed up in rage. There was no reason that it should be afraid, it was the king of this labyrinth, this was its domain he was the scary beast in the dark, not some random newcomer that was simply his next meal. As it got closer it let out a bellowing roar towards where beast was. The tech while granting fear also made it easier for the minotaur to smell exactly where beast was.
As beast jumped over the head of the minatour, it acted. Without warning it used all of its strength and jumped upwards in a blind rage. It's horns would make contact first, if beast wasn't fast enough they would impale him on his sides and lock him in place as the rest of the minotaur slammed its body at full strength upwards. This impact would cause the ceiling of this floor to start to crumble away and reveal the next floor. The hole would be large enough for beast to escape through, if the hollow wraith was still able to move from the impact.
Beast had to act fast. As he kicked at the head of the minotaur, the creature jumped upwards and tried to gore him to the ceiling with its horns. That was an easy to solve problem though, Beast just used his kick to Shunpo to the ground. He wasn't a master of the step technique, so he would hit the ground pretty roughly and have to roll to avoid breaking his legs. But this was the opportunity that Beast needed. As the ceiling began to crumble revealing the next floor, the wraith deactivated his predator aura and jumped with a second Shunpo towards the next floor, trying to avoid the minotaur as best he could. Hopefully it was stunned enough from breaking an entire ceiling of the maggot's nest, which had just moments earlier proved to be able to numb Beast's arm from punching.
Fleeing to the next floor, Beast would hopefully regain some more of his power. He was almost out!
Beast would find that the next floor was entirely different than that of the last three. The moment he landed up on the floor he could feel his power come back once more. He was almost at full strength again. However unlike all the other floors that lacked any sort of weapon, beast would find himself in a floor covered in weapons. Each one hanging on a hook against the wall. There would be countless swords and strange parasitic being attached to some of them. Beast could easily tell that this floor was where they stored all the taken weapons of the prisoners, most importantly he could tell that his own weapon was here somewhere.
The floor was arranged like a library, rows upon rows of weapons hanging on hooks. Beast would hear the chains of something rattling in the distance as he looked around. He would have some time to try and find his own zan, however the biggest issue was that while the minotaur was stunned for a moment. It wasn't going to let its meal get away. After a bit of time it would sniff at the air and jump upwards through the hole it had made to continue the chase of beast.
The wraith found himself in a library of stolen weapons. Stolen from the prisoners and locked away. Perfect. Beast reached out his limited energy sensory to search for his twin Zanpakutou, one a copper saber, the other a smaller shortsword. Even if he didn't detect them, he'd start running down the rows of the weapons searching for his power. He had forged both of these Zanpakutou himself, upgrading Grodd's puny dagger into a shortsword and pulling the saber from his very soul. The saber was most important to him, it was his power, not Grodd's. HIS. Searching frantically for his weapons, he kept an eye and ear out for the minotaur who was on the hunt, as well as making sure to keep watch for the guardian of this trove.
Guessing that there was going to be resistance to getting his swords back, Beast prepared for the worst.
Remaining Reiatsu: 855/1,630 (-100 forgotten Shunpo from last post, +380 SpPr Restored)
Beast would find that while each row seemed at first to be randomly have each blade placed wherever the longer he looked the more he would realize the actual ordering system of this place. Each blade was placed in order of length, while a bit crazy the more to the right he went the longer the swords on the hooks would be, the more to the left he went the shorter they would get. As he reached the end of a row he would find himself facing a wall with numbers written on it dictating the sizes of the swords and up to what length they would be on that row, down to the micron. Beast could go left or right from here to try and find his weapons, let's see if he knew how long his blades really were.
Beast scoffed at the organization system of the weapons on the wall. Wouldn't they have to move an entire row of weapons in both directions each time they added a new sword? They'd have needed to rearrange everything twice for him. He had forged those twin Zanpakutou himself, so he was intimately familiar with how long they were. He'd have no issues finding the roman pugio with the seven inch blade and standard hilt and the copper saber with the thirty inch blade and standard hilt. If the minotaur had found him faster than he could navigate the dewey decimal sword system of this Library of weapons then he'd need to get creative, but he was confident in his ability to locate his weapons before the minotaur cornered him. From there, he'd have the power to defeat that blind creature.
As Beast moved towards the copper saber he would continue to hear the sounds of chains rattling in the distance. Each step he took the sounds of chains would get louder and louder. The moment he grabbed his copper saber a single chanined hook would come flying towards him. The speed of it was fast, however it wouldn’t be impossible for Beast to dodge the hook. If he didn’t the hook would pierce right into his hand. The chain connected to the hook looked rusted and aged, however it didn’t mean that the chain it’s self was any weaker than when it was brand new.
“PUT IT BACK!!!” A voice would say once Beast took his sword. While he had been running from the minotaur he hadn’t yet seen the guardian of this floor. Now Beast would be face to face with the Guardian of the confiscated weapons. The man, or rather what could be called a man was covered in bandages from head to toes as well as having several chains hanging off of each of his limbs. Without anything else being said more chains came right out towards beast without any movement from the guardian. Each one having a large hook at the end of it.
