Rio was pissed. Granted this was not unusual for him. Rio was usually pissed. It was amazingly easy to anger the man. Being bored could anger him. Insuboordination bothered him. Fighting an unusually tough opponent that just wouldn't crack would anger him. Beating someone he'd originally deemed a worthy opponent would anger him. Being challenged by an unworthy opponent could anger him. There were a lot of things that could anger Rio. And being teleported into an underwater dome, with no prior warning definitely angered Rio.
Rio hadn't come for the King's Key. But Rio knew shinigami. Specifically, he knew that no shinigami would wait around for someone to take the King's Key, that was the prize of this tournament. So, what better way to get the chance to crack some shinigami skulls? He knew where they'd be, all he had to do was wait. There was just one problem with that. Waiting angered Rio. He was not a patient man. "If this fucker keeps me waiting any longer I'm going to blow this place to hell!" He snarled. Then added as an afterthought. "Literally."
He glanced out the glass dome at a passing great white shark. Kuh. Fuckin' fish. Reminded him of the dipshit he had to share as a comrade once. Rio had taken great pleasure when he had turned that freaky fish guy into a red mulch. When he'd been crushed it had felt so satisfying. But that was in the past, and before long, the shark turned off and swam away. Rio turned back to the dome. "Guess I'm gonna count to five. That's all I'm giving the piece of trash." Rio growled. "One..... Two..... Three....." It seemed Akeru would be in for facing an incredibly pissed off Rio when he arrived. Not a promising proposition.

Akeru was anxious..., he had an ominous feeling. One that he could probably attribute to being suddenly being teleported in a flash of light to an underwater dome. He glanced around uneasily, all around him were ruins and destroyed buildings. He looked up, it was like black glass on the outside. Sharks swam and giant ringed octopus did as well. Was someone trying to kill them, wait... that was a stupid question. He was in a tournament, that would probably end with him being maimed. He wasn't a direct line fighter, not after one day his Armor of crystal just shorted out. He wondered why it had, he couldn't get it to work. He sighed and hopped from the top of debris to debris. He was pushing out with his energy sensory when he felt something. It was weaker then him when it came to Spiritual pressure that was at least comforting.
When he came across the person he was above him. It was.... an arrancar..? He had an arrancar's outfit, with minor alterations. He looked on the lighter physical fighter. Maybe that meant that it would end less with him being beaten into the ground. He sighed, the arrancar was clearly unhappy, and was counting... "Four... Fi-" "Five..." Akeru cut him off, he was uneasy. This could backfire, he knew nothing of this Arrancar. If he was an arrancar, but he looked like one. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Why don't we begin."
OOC: Akeru will be upgraded to Class 1 for the duration of this thread.

There his opponent was. Perfect timing. Oh. But he'd interrupted Rio. That was not so good. "Sounds good! Die!" Rio snarled, thrusting his palm in Akeru's direction. An orb of green light appeared and blazed into an immense column of green reiatsu, blasting in his direction. This was the Arrancar's Cero. A basic, but extremely destructive technique. Because of the battlefield, Akeru would probably have to watch out for the collateral damage caused by Rio's attacks.
Rio hadn't even bothered to check who or what he'd been fighting really. The moment Akeru had interrupted him, he'd spun and fired the Cero. His energy sensory was not exactly at a high enough level to sense Akeru's species. So not only did he not know even what his opponent looked like, he didn't even recognize he was fighting a shinigami. For all Rio knew it could have been another arrancar, or a Quincy, or a human. Didn't matter. The idiot had made the mistake of interrupting the Quinta Espada. And he clearly wasn't Kuroi or Adalo. So as far as Rio cared, he could just die.
The Quinta lowered his hand with a scoff. Cracking his knuckles. "Worthless trash." He growled, half prepared to walk off after firing that Cero. Most people wouldn't have been able to react to an attack that sudden, nor survive it when it hit. Even the 13th squad captain Shade Kawada had been completely obliterated when Rio had struck him with his Cero.

OOC: I have a bad feeling about this fight. Also, short post ahoy!
Yeah, that was a mistake. This Arrancar seemed temperamental and he didn't care that they were in a underwater prison. He's insane thought the fourth seat. Akeru stepped off with a shunpo stepping backwards as he brought his hands together. he appeared out of the shunpo and around him spinning forward were two flaming spinning axes. The Axes sliced through the Cero causing it to explode and dissipate. Akeru after that before the smoke cleared mentally cast Kyyako on himself as he held himself in the air on air ground. It wrapped around his form like a ovulated bubble. He merely after that ordered his axes to go on the attack. The axes which were diedric in appearance composed of reiastu were lit with super condensed flames.
The axes flew down and went straight for the Arrancar, one axe went to cleave through the arrancar's collarbone. The other aimed to pivot behind the man and cut out his legs from behind him. As soon as they got within five feet of the Arrancar, he'd feel the intense heat that were coming off of them. They were fast much faster then Rio, and he would have to react fast to avoid them. Akeru planned to let his axes do most of his fighting for the moment. To see how his opponent reacted and how his fighting style panned out. he'd just have to see how it all worked out and make sure that the arrancar didn't blow the dome.

Rio could tell his opponent had survived. Mainly due to the explosion, but also due to the fact that Rio's keen nose was telling him that his opponent hadn't been vaporized by the Cero. The fact that the foreign scent which was his opponent was still present was an obvious hint that his body hadn't been completely annihilated by Rio's Cero. As for Kyakko, there was one issue that Akeru couldn't get by. Although he could hide himself from Rio's sight, he could not do the same for Rio's sense of hearing, or sense of smell.
A flash of movement as Akeru's axes hurtled towards Rio was all he needed for his diversion. The sound of static crackled in the air. Rio had used Sonido to dodge the attack. At least, that is what it would look like to Akeru, as his axes slashed through the space he had just been. Using Sonido to evade his attack. But to be truthful, that was just the diversion for the evasion, and likely the one Akeru would believe. He had used Kyakko. He was invisible to the naked eye. Until he broke it, or made a blunder, his opponent would have to fight blindly right?
Wrong.
As mentioned above, Rio's keen sense of smell and hearing had enabled him to gauge Akeru's location. Not his EXACT location, but the general location down to a few feet. Rio had used his Sonido to appear right behind Akeru, with a spinning backfist. Since Rio could not gauge Akeru's exact position, he was using a long sweeping technique that would pass through the maximum amount of space, and smash his target flying. It was unlikely Akeru would realize that his Sonido was an offensive one, instead of a defensive one until his blow landed, his own kido spell working against him psychologically.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom. Akeru was very fortunate that Rio could not perfectly pinpoint his location from the outset of his Sonido. Now that he was close, of course, he could, but he was already swinging. Akeru's cutback would likely prevent severe damage from the swing, but he would undoubtedly be sent flying by the attack, to the ground below, if it connected. Rio's strength was immense, and cutback could only save him from so much. This blow was quite brutal and was going to cause Akeru significant trauma, even if there was no external damage. Smashing into the ground at the speeds associated from a hit like that were going to be quite a trip.

Akeru was determined, He watched as his axes went to carve into the Arrancar and the bloody man vanished in a sound of static. Akeru's mind began to processing as fast as possible. His hairs were standing on end, He immediately threw his mind into his senses and this included his energy sensory. He was able to track the Arrancar as he began to de-accelerate out of his step, right behind the shinigami. Right behind him and getting even closer. This was bold, or stupid... or He knew where Akeru was even masked. Akeru's instincts took over, he stepped off into his own step technique. He thrusted himself forward without care that his step technique might take him out of his Kyyako.
His axes during this arced back and met him as he exited out of his shunpo. They began to spin, turning to disks of heated flame. His hair whipped around him, landing in a spin to face the Arrancar. He braced his hands before him and began to chant, "The stars are high, the winds are loud and painted in the east. The steel trap closes upon your neck and tears out your throat. Blinding White and Glorious Red, Bakudo 88. Aironhitonomi!" The speed of this chant was increasingly quick, and Akeru flared his reiastu with increasing density. This was a bluff, though Akeru spoke with defiance and purpose. There was a subtle hint and a lie, Akeru was speaking a fake spell. He had shown only aptitude at running and casting magic, this would help bolster the farce.
So far he had figured out the Arrancar was able to use reiastu attacks with great strength, he was fast and apparently not afraid to get physical. He was an all around built fighter, This meant he was dangerous and could fight conservatively or liberally. Whichever was his choosing, this meant that it would be a hard fight, not to mention... Akeru's gaze darted to their prison, they were trapped in a glass prison and this Arrancar didn't care. Perhaps he didn't care due to the fact he had an ability or skill that had to do with water. Perhaps again that put Akeru at a disadvantage. He was uneasy, but perhaps his plan would work as his spell "finished" he flooded his reiatsu and mentally cast Rikojokoro causing a little orb of reiastu to appear on his outstretched index finger, he would see how reactive this Arrancar was.

Unfortunately for Akeru, Rio didn't care whether he was bluffing or not. Rio's preferred fighting style was an all-out assault, and Akeru's attempts at hit-and-run combat were weak against such a style. A Hit-and-run style of fighting would work well against someone who tried to defend. In the space between defending and countering, one could dance away out of reach. But to someone who met force with greater force, it was a futile effort. Your attack was merely an opening for your opponent to exploit.
As Akeru even started his incantation, fast as he spoke, Rio wasn't going to allow him to finish it. Oh, Akeru could talk fast. But the funny thing about words. Words travelled at the speed of sound. As Rio launched into Sonido, he reached speeds comparable to the speed of the words Akeru was speaking! No matter how fast Akeru spoke, he couldn't speak at supersonic speeds-- which is what he'd need to be able to do to execute his spell before Rio slammed into him like a freight train.
Rio had a funny way of using his bulk in combat. Rio knew he was much stronger than most people. This meant, that while most people had to often use their stepping techniques to go AROUND targets, Rio would often use the common principle of punching. Don't stop at your target. Drive THROUGH your target. Which is exactly did. Around the point Akeru was uttering his "...tears out your throat" He'd feel a tremendous impact slam into him, as Rio's Sonido sent the Quinta right through Akeru. Or, at least it would have sent Rio through Akeru, if Akeru didn't have that damnable cutback. Rio would certainly feel some recoil damage from such an attack, thanks to cutback, but it was just as probable that Akeru would be winded, and his concentration shattered, unable to finish either his incantation or mentally cast his Rikujokoro.
However, if Akeru thought he'd be knocked flying like before, or that he'd be able to juke out with Shunpo, he was sadly mistaken. No sooner had Rio's Sonido collided with Akeru, he'd feel the Espada wrap both arms around Akeru's torso, trapping the shinigami in a bear hug. "Cutback? That's annoying." Rio growled at Akeru as he began to tighten the hold. "But you're just in time for an experiment, shinigami!" He exclaimed with a sharp-toothed grin. "How much pressure your cutback can handle before it caves!" He stated gleefully as his hold tightened further, in an attempt to crush Akeru's ribs in a bear hug. While Akeru's cutback would protect him from blunt force impacts, it would do nothing against gradual-- or for that matter, rapidly applied, pressure.

Panic, that would be a good word to describe Akeru at the moment. Panic, why panic? Because he'd been caught, he been caught and he was about to be crushed. Getting slammed into by an Arrancar at almost mach one speeds knocked his concentration on the fake spell out of the ball park. He used all of his mastery in reiastu control in kidou and in his ability to maintain a calm mind to keep his phasmatis axes from dissipating on the spot. He skidded backwards around six feet as the Sonido came to a halt, and tried to escape but even before he could use a step technique the Arrancar had caught him. His arms were like iron Akeru realized now, although slender the corded muscle underneath the iron skin was like solid steal. The impact left minor bruising and he would be alright, but he had more pressing matters to deal with.
Pun not intended, He stared up his arms trapped under the Arrancar's extending arms. His panicked turned outward and his axes responded and shoot backwards blades extended to shoot straight into the shadow of the man, through the arrancar and Akeru. They were in a blind spot, but Akeru was sure that with the sensory level that this Arrancar possessed to be able to track his location when masked by Bakudo 26. Kyyako. He'd hear the crackle of the flames and the wind, feel the heat of the axes as they approached and possibly even more simple, sense the reiastu signature. His mind was working on overtime and he though of the spell he needed to brake free as Rio's hands firmly wrapped around and he began to actually squeeze. Akeru's mind shouted Sukkiri Sekisho! Akeru possessed a rare talent, he was able to cast his kidou mentally, he chalked it down to a mastery of his kidou, reiastu manipulation and theory skills, and his innate ability to center himself due to his unnatural calm mind.
The effect was instantaneous, Akeru's body himself gained an ethereal quality. He was transparent and Rio's bear hug passed clean through him, Akeru simply drifted backwards through the Arrancar's arms, however this confusion however short lived would have to wait for Rio had something else to deal with now even in the midst of his confusion. The phasmatis axes were upon him at the moment of Akeru's sudden etherealization, so given that his spell was hidden until the moment it's casting took effect. Rio would not know that Axes were in fact only aimed for him. Their Speed was was 438 which made it simple and the impact strength was at a modest 600. It would be hard for him to get out of this situation completely unscathed due to the lack of warning and miniscule time frame in which to choose a plausible counter to the situation and implement it.
Akeru's spell had a simultaneous after effect, The axes while running through the arrancar, would phase through Akeru, as he could phase through reiastu and physical based objects. He just couldn't use any new reiastu while in this current form. He shot downwards at full speed gaining distance. This gave him space and his mind time to think, he deemed it prudent to draw his blade as he descended. He readied it, his eyes riveted on the Arrancar. This would be a Severe maiming blow to him, if it did not end him outright. If there was a bright side it would be that all wounds would be instantly cauterized, which was overpowered that 4th degree burns in the body would leave his internal organs to be cooked and the Arrancar's battle capabilities severely hurt. But the point remained that in one move the battle had shifted and he would use it to win or gain information.
Remaining Reiastu: 5075/6000 (+150 reiastu for Rikojokoro, -400 for Sukkiri Sekisho.)

As Akeru surmised, Rio detected the axes coming at his back. And yes. They were fast. But not nearly THAT fast. Akeru had made one minor flaw in his execution though, which was in part, due to his panic. His choice of kido was good, but he had misread Rio's line of thought. Having fought shinigami before, Rio, upon sensing the axes, had jumped to the conclusion that if he killed Akeru, the axes would naturally dissipate. As such, he intensified his bear hug, just as Akeru cast the kido. A minor qualm, but it may have resulted in Akeru suffering more than mere bruises and may have cracked a rib, with the sudden increase in pressure, even if it was immediately alleviated.
This, naturally confused Rio, of course, that his arms had simply passed through Akeru. However, his warrior instincts took over immediately. He had detected the axes, and he had failed to kill the shinigami, which meant he had to act immediately, to avoid a serious wound. With an angered roar, Rio spun to face the axes. Fast as they were, they were not significantly faster than the Espada, and Rio had enough time to swing his arm in the direction of the axes like a club. In that same instant, perhaps to Akeru's amazement, the axes would be smashed away from Rio, as though repelled by an invisible barrier.
Akeru lacked the physical senses to see Rio's shockwaves, and so it may have been time for his own confusion to take place here. His axes were powerful, but Rio's focused shockwaves were stronger still, and were able to smash the axes away from him, leaving Rio unscathed by the conjured weapons. Of course, the fact he wasn't hurt wasn't enough. Rio was not happy that his prey had evaded him. "Typical shinigami." He snarled. "Too much a coward to stand and fight!" He bellowed at Akeru, keeping an eye on the axes, which were unlikely to have been destroyed by his shockwave.
His opponent seemed to have become intangible. How annoying. That meant his shockwaves would be unable to destroy him either. What about Cero? Or Bala? Rio supposed they were worth a shot, but not worth firing blindly. The shinigami seemed quite keen on avoiding him. Worthless trash! Rio would dispose of him the moment he came up with a means to catch the damned rat.
