Though tired, and fully aware that he needed rest, Shinsei was a Shinigami, and was far faster and more instinctively guarded than any average human. Miyuki was attractive, there was no denying that. Her slap, he had taken bashfully, fully able to do something about it, but doing nothing so as to ease her pain and spread her relief as the disaster finally came to a close. He allowed the first embrace, because he was a hero, and that was a part of what he did. The second, he allowed as well, except for one part. He drew his head to the side, dodging Miyuki's kiss, and instead hugging her tightly with his cheek touching hers, keeping her against him tightly so that she could not adjust her position, but not with such force that she would be hurt either.
It was instinctive, and Shinsei had practice dodging people trying to kiss him. After the hug, he pulled away from her, and put his finger to her lips. He looked down at his hand, the one with its index finger against her lips, and if she looked down she too would see what he was referring to. Without having to say anything, he would guide her vision to what had not been seen before; There was a gold thing on Shinsei's ring finger on that hand, a wedding ring. Shinsei was married, after all, and wouldn't accept a kiss from another woman, even though she was attractive. Only his own would suffice. That was part of his vow as a husband and a lover. Besides, heroes should not be exempt from moral contempt either. Heroes had to be shining examples.
"I hope all goes well for you." Shinsei said to Miyuki with a smile. He left her soon after that, walking away and going to join Kyousei instead. The new Vice Captain was one that he had barely acknowledged, for Shinsei had been caught in the mission. Shinsei removed the red visor around his eyes and put it away into the folds of his robe. Koros approached Shinsei, having deactivated Orikatsu, and they nodded solemnly at one another. Shinsei put his hand on Kyousei's shoulder, acknowledging the Vice Captain, though most certainly not explaining who he was, who Koros was, nor even what that Hollow was. Kyousei would live his life shrouded in that mystery, wondering what had transpired here.
"Hibiki's death wasn't your fault," Shinsei told Kyousei. "It was mine." He walked away after that, adding that name to his mental list, a note to himself of who it was that he had failed. Shinsei would have to continue to bear that for the remainder of his life. Shinsei noted the dullness of Kyousei's demeanor, his seeming shock at everything that had transpired, and his inability to comprehend. Shinsei couldn't allow him to remain dazed like that. He walked back to Kyousei, looked at him for an instant, and then slapped him across the face. "Don't do drugs." Shinsei instructed, reaching into Kyousei's robes to take back the syringe he had given to Hibiki but had been taken by Kyousei, and then walking away again after that. Koros was waiting as Shinsei went to meet him. There were two of them in those white robes and black Haori, two who were beyond the scope of mortal worlds.
Shinsei held up his left wrist to his mouth, tapping a button on it. "Corp Leader 4E, Status Report. Encountered and engaged Dios Vacuo Level 1. Defeated enemy. Enemy casualties: One. Group casualties: Zero. Gotei casualties: One, Hibiki Kuchiki. Civilian casualties: Zero. Town status: Moderate. Reiatsu fragment: 12%. Pressure fragment: 19%. Mission time 2:43. Request Corp Member 4E Aya Rika for town cleanup and repair." Shinsei trailed off as Koros gave a similar status report, and then Shinsei added one more thing. "Reporting unusual find. Dios Vacuo Level 1 displayed signs of mild intelligence and cunning. Capable of speech. Request immediate pick-up. Corp Leader 4E, Out." Shinsei lowered his wrist after that.
I wonder, Asuka...what life would be like if I'd never joined the Zero Division. Would I have still gone to visit Hueco Mundo on a whim? Would I even be alive? What you and I ever have met? I wonder, Asuka...if I had never joined the Zero Division, would all of these people be dead, or would someone else have accomplished the mission in the same way as me? I wonder, Asuka...why does life take the turns that it does? In the sky, a giant metal pipe materialized, descending and smashing into the ground, though causing no shockwaves or damage. It uplifted into the sky again after that, disappearing in a flash of brilliant light. When it lifted off and disappeared, Shinsei and Koros were gone, and would be nowhere to be found. Even Shinsei's Gigai, which he had abandoned somewhere in the forest, would never be seen again.
