Shinsei was quick to catch on. Being in the Zero Division, one had to travel to many different worlds. This one was no different from that idea. Strangeness. Shinsei had had to master many different social situations, and luckily this one was a very easy one. As soon as Hibiki began to hit on the girl, Shinsei saw the look in her eyes shift into annoyance. Simultaneously, he was processing what Hibiki had said, and coming to the realized answer that in actuality, he could not fight with the man Kyousou Ningen. Was Shinsei capable of surviving the encounter? Yes. Was he capable of killing that man? Entirely possible. However, the one who had been on one of the toughest missions in history was stronger than any run of the mill Captain Commander. None realized it, but Kyousou Ningen was the strongest Captain Commander in history.
Given that Shinsei processed this silently in his mind, he did not speak as Hibiki flirted. However, a moment or two later, he did catch on, locking eyes in only a momentary, furtive glance to the other, slightly older girl. His eyes held the apology. He said nothing. He had acknowledged her, and hoped that she would speak to them. His eyes showed a more serious sense than Hibiki had given. He had come off as trying to hit them up. Shinsei did not smile. Standing behind Hibiki, he had a serious look which the Vice Captain would not see at the moment, unless he rudely turned around, and kept his eyes in a serious position. He fully understood the gravity of the situation for this girl. This silent apology won them some leeway.
“I apologize for my friend’s behavior, sir. She’s… well, she’s having a hard time coping with all of this." The girl's dialogue touched Shinsei. It always did when these people gave him their stories. He always felt as if he had to solve the problem. "What about you?" he asked. "We all are." she responded to him. Shinsei's lips felt dry. He could feel it too. He could detect it. It was a dry taste on a chilling air. A blighted sensation where there should be none, given the condensation of water in the air. "What's your name?" Shinsei asked. "My name is Okuma Mizuki," went the girl. "What happened?" Shinsei continued. "My father is the owner of one of the largest tourist guide businesses in the town. Up until two weeks ago, our business was booming, and we were enjoying the influx of people that tourism brought to our town. I, in particular, was one of the tour guides to lead people through ‘The Suicide Woods,’ down trails we had set up in advance to improve the experience.”
Shinsei listened intently, taking note of every detail that she said. He was no master of memorization, but he was under the impression that as long as he kept a note of it, he'd be okay. Likewise, his Zodac was secretly recording it. It in fact took record of everything in regards to Shinsei's interactions, whether or not he wanted it to. Just so that Central had a complete record of everything at all times. “You’re from out of town, aren’t you? You’re not the first, but visitors aren’t common anymore. In fact, the last person who was here looked a lot like you guys. Well, not as much like you, your uniform is different. But he was a lot like you two, carrying a sword, which is odd enough in these days of guns and technology. He made me think of an old-fashioned samurai, too."
Out of town. Such a quaint term. Shinsei wasn't even from this world. He'd been born in Soul Society to begin with. Shinsei said nothing, letting her continue speaking for a while, up until that samurai bit. Then he cut in. "What happened to that man?" he asked her. “He went into those woods, at least a week ago. I haven’t heard anything from him since, and I don’t think anyone else has either." He sensed hesitation from her momentarily, and understood it. She was deciding on whether or not to trust them. “I don’t know why, but looking at you, I think I can trust you. Both of you. I need some help. My… my little sister went into the woods with that man that looked like you guys. She helps on the tours as well, though normally with someone else, as she’s only fourteen. But she hasn’t come back either, and it’s been a whole week. We’ve tried to go search, but with all of the monsters…”
Shinsei was about to open his mouth to respond, but she cut him off. He waited for her story to conclude, and then put his hand on her shoulder reassuringly. He had a somber look to his face. "Don't worry," Shinsei said calmly. "We'll find them." He motioned to the sword on his back, and to the one at Hibiki's side. "There's a reason we use swords. You need to feel it when you fight. Guns won't let you ever be sure. It takes an assuring, cold metal to kill monsters. You can't do it with a gun. Only with a blade...And for the both of us, killing monsters is our specialty." Shinsei was quite confident in saying this, but he did not give his classic, charming smile. Rather, he said it in a somber way. The goal was to let her know that she was safe with them. Not only was he certain of his ability to protect her, but he was certain they could at least find her loved ones, dead or alive.
Therefore, it was only natural that he desired for her to lead on. Shinsei had faith in Hibiki as well. Though restricted in that Gigai, Shinsei also knew that Hibiki would be able to guard him long enough for him to escape into his true form and unleash true devastation if things grew to be too rough. Truthfully, if it existed in the human world, then the threat was minimal enough that Shinsei could annihilate it effortlessly at full power. Anything that could exist this long here was not dangerous. Shinsei had checked the fragmentation levels upon first entering. They had been 0% until his presence arrived and simmered a little bit. Only Shinsei made the fragmentation. And if whatever it was did not have enough power to cause fragmentation, then the Zero Division would eat it alive.
"Lead us," Shinsei said. "I promise we'll do everything in our power to help you find them. And, if we get the chance, we'll see to saving this town of yours too. Monsters? They'll have to crawl back into their swamp..."
On their way, once they got to beginning their walk, Shinsei had to steal up next to Hibiki to say one thing to him, and to give him something. He handed him a syringe filled with green liquid. "This doubles physical speed for a short time. Careful. It's very potent, and very addictive. If we make it through without your using it, return it to me. Use it only in a dire situation." Shinsei let the girl get a little ways ahead. "If things get too dire for her, take her and run away...Don't even think about me. Worry about her. Worry about yourself. That's an order. Disregard my life in comparison to yours or hers." Shinsei continued walking, speeding up to catch up to the girl properly again, after saying all of this to Hibiki.
