All that Hideo's turn and slash managed to do was prevent Manabu follow up with another attack. Manabu didn't just stop as soon as he slashed. By the time Hideo hit the ground, Manabu was several feet away and turning back towards his opponent. A running slash, let's not forget, involves running. Furthermore, though Hideo may have been a master swordsman program, Manabu Brock had been studying swordsmanship and combat since before Hideo was even in beta (or alpha if this is beta). Hideo would not catch him off guard with his back turned. If he wanted to catch Manabu Brock off guard, it would have to be while right in front of him.
Hideo managed to close the distance between the two of them with his couplet of spins. This really didn't become a problem for Manabu until the stabs came. Simple stabs like that were not terribly problematic. All he had to do was deflect them as they came in. The repetitiveness of the attacks gave Manabu an advantage Hideo couldn't afford: time to think. Hideo was obviously trying to push Manabu back, but Manabu didn't feel like being pushed just now.
Manabu picked a stab he liked and deflected it with a movement that turned into a slash at Hideo's head. Now Manabu started with a flurry of slashes and stabs. The slash toward the head turned into a stab to the torso, which led to a lateral slash followed by an upward slash. With that, Manabu put his left hand behind his hilt thrust his sword forward at Hideo's face. He immediately switched hands and gripped the sword with his left hand and slashed down with his reverse grip with a spin of his own.
"Good! Good!" came Hideo's voice as his stabs were being deflected every which way. Then, the next thing Hideo knew, his stab was deflected. He was offbalanced while a slash was coming towards his head. He used his offbalance positioning to lean himself backwards so that the slash passed over his head. He watched as the blade, gleaming in the light from the sun, moved across the spot where his head had once been. Swish He heard the sound as the blade sliced past. That had been a close one. Now, he had to act for he could sense another attack coming at him if he remained in that position any longer.
Hideo had to counteract, and he had to do so quickly. Brock was sending a stab at his torso next. Hideo swung his upper half to his right so that the blade wouldn't pierce the center of his torso, then he kicked off of his right leg to send himself in a horizontal flip to his left. The stab grazed his side as he flipped. He was lucky that it hadn't been a real blade. If it had, it would have drawn blood. That was why he didn't worry too much about letting it graze him like that. Then again, even if it was a real blade, Hideo seemed the type to take damage like that as long as he was able to make a good hit afterwards. He was a guy who loved battle. Relished in it. Hideo landed about five feet to Brock's right where he charged in once more, praising Brock as he did. "If that had been a steel blade, you would've drawn blood from me Brock! Good one!" Hideo seemed enthused. He was glad that Brock was doing so well. It gave lot sof information to the system and it also allowed Hideo to test himself. If Hideo was this strong in swordsmanship and Hideo was able to keep up with him, think of how he would do against someone of a higher rank! He would be able to hold his own even better by learning from Brock!
So, with his next charge, Hideo began a few slashes. He started with a horizontal slice across Brock's right arm and then transitioned that at the slice's end into a diagonal slash towards Brock's right calf. When that was done, Hideo twisted his wrist so that the wooden katana in his hand also twisted. He was now going for a slice towards the back of Brock's head near the neck area, putting more power into it than he had done with the other ones. Oh, this would be a long and vigorous training session. Both of these warriors today would get lots out of it.

It seems that Hideo wasn't going to wait around for Manabu to continue pushing him. Well, if he had, he could hardly be called a master swordsman. "You're not so bad yourself, Hiroki-san!" Hideo was now charging back at Brock. He had a moment to think about what to do next.
You know, it is training, and we're using wood now instead of steel. I don't HAVE to do everything in order for maximum combat effectiveness. I could really mix things up. Maybe I should learn to get hit a little more. Know what? I'm going to do something... else.
As Hideo came in, Manabu suddenly thrust his blade out at him and did a backflip?! Well, that certainly discouraged Hideo's charge and got Manabu out of the way of the initial slash, but it left him in a rather untenable position. Hideo would surely be fast enough to cut into him in mid-air. As Manabu continued his circular trip through the air, he brought the blade back towards himself and brought it behind his back parallel to his spine. Upon landing, he would turn that into a powerful, overhead, downward slash. However, he'd probably be dispatched before getting to deliver that attack.

Hideo watched as Brock leapt over his primary slash. He did so backwards, which interested Hideo. He was wondering what Brock was going to do now. He continued his slash though, bringing it down into a transition to the diagonal slash since he was already midway into it as Brock was moving into the air. Then, as he was about to come back up for the slash to the back of Brock's neck, he saw him move his blade behind him. Hideo suspected that was so that Brock could protect himself while he was in the air like that. Hideo withdrew his slash and prepared himself for another one. That was when Brock landed and his blade was raised in the air. Then, it was coming down in a vicious and powerful slash. He was putting strength into this one. Hideo could see that, so that was why he was going to meet Brock's force with his own.
Like the samurai, Hideo was going to meet Brock's slash with equal force rather than dodging it, which he could have easily done. So, rather than do that, he gripped his wooden katana tightly and placed his other hand onto it as well so that he now gripped it tightly with both hands. He drew his blade back and then slashed upwards, putting his full force behind it. He also stepped forward with his right foot to strengthen the upwards moving slash. The two katanas meet with a powerful SMACK. The sound that one would expect to hear when two pieces of wood slam together. Hideo's blade was held parallel to the ground as the two wooden katana met. His smile widened as he stared up at Brock.
He then lifted that same right foot after it had already come down with the ending of the slash. It lifted up and smashed into Brock's chest, knocking him up into the air slightly with the wind pushed from his lungs for a few moments. If Hideo's kick did hit, the sudden shock would probably keep Brock floating in the air like that, coming back down to the ground in a sort of slow motion. However, Hideo's plan wasn't to let Brock hit the ground, at least not yet. He kicked off of the ground, his body moving towards Brock's own falling body. He lifted his wooden katana over his head and slashed down onto Brock's chest with a rather powerful swing of his blade. With the strength behind his slash, Brock would be sent crashing down into the ground. Not enough to create a crater or anything, but just enough where he would need some time to recover after hitting the ground like that. Hideo meanwhile slid his blade to the side as he landed. Had he been using a real blade, Brock would have had a huge gash wound across his chest. Good thing they weren't right? "You're right Manabu Brock! If I had been using a steel blade, that slash just now would probably have ended it." he said with that same smile upon his face as he turned to face Brock.

As Manabu fell back from the kick, he saw Hideo rear his sword in preparation for a heavy strike. Well, Manabu wouldn't let him have it that easy. He brought his blade to block this hit with support from his other hand. However, he didn't make it a horizontal block. This was a diagonal block with the left hand and top of the blade up around Manabu's head and his right hand (especially elbow) in towards his body. It was rather askew in fact. The elbow was all the way in front of his torso. Hideo's blade came down with a crack, and Manabu was hurled into the ground. Unfortunately for Hideo, he failed to anticipate what would happen next.
The impact surged through Manabu and exploded upward in what would normally be a bit of useless flailing. However, Manabu was becoming accustomed to being hit and knocked down. He had finally gained enough experience to make better use of these situations. Manabu used the energy travelling through his left arm to flick the top of his blade up and the energy travelling through the rest of his body to strike out with a quick and powerful slash. The way he had positioned his right arm would translate the unwieldy force from the crash into a moderately well directed strike. The blade connected with Hideo's chest. Had he still been on guard, he'd have blocked it easily. Either way, Manabu was now out of moves until he could recover. If this were a real fight, he'd be dead. Again.

Whoa! Hideo hadn't been expecting that one. It was a hit for a hit. Had they been using real blades, Hideo would have been wounded in that encounter as well. The wooden blade moved across his chest as he was landing. He clutched at it upon landing and then turned towards Brock with a smile on his face. "Wow Manabu Brock! I wasn't expecting that one! Nice hit!" Hideo called out. He held his blade loosely in his right hand as he watched Brock stand up. He noticed that Brock seemed a little weakened after that one.
"Alright over there Brock?" he asked while he kept that blade held loosely in his right hand. He began to spin it in front of him while he asked. He still had that smile on his face, but there was also a little concern that could be seen despite the smile plastered there. "Get ready because I'm coming again!" Hideo called to Brock as he rushed forward. That speed of his which tripled when he moved at full speed allowed him to move past Brock. Now past Brock and behind him, Hideo was able to stop and jump backwards where he executed a backwards leaping spin slash towards Brock's head. He knew he was open like this, but with his speed, Brock wouldn't be able to get off a counter in time after dodging. All he could do at this moment was dodge, and by the time he did move to make a counter, Hideo would already have both feet on the ground and executing another attack to follow up.

Manabu was getting worn out, and a blow like that last one didn't help any. "I'm not dead yet, Hiroki-san." It looked like Hideo wasn't short of stamina though. Manabu watched him suddenly take off in his direction. He wasn't going to make this a head on attack. He should know it wouldn't work, and that didn't seem to be Hideo's m.o. anyway. No, this would be a pass and attack from the rear.
Manabu closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and focused. Everything slowed down all of a sudden. Even though he couldn't see, Manabu was aware of Hideo's position. He felt him run past and stop, and then he felt the incoming strike. It was coming towards his head, so he ducked. However, while ducking, the leg closer to Hideo came up in an attempt to kick him in the head.
Manabu semi-frequently trained with eyes closed or blindfolded in order to improve his instincts. This was the first time he'd tried it with an animate opponent. It was going fairly well. When Manabu shut off part of his conscious mind, it seems that instead of just working at less power, his brain insisted on reapportioning it. Manabu was now fighting on instinct.

Hideo was quite surprised at Brock's counterattack. The duck didn't much surprise him because he expected something like that out of someone like Brock. He proved to be pretty resilient and tough throughout this whole training thing. It was the kick that surprised Hideo more than anything. It had come while Brock was turned around. How had he even known where to send the kick if he hadn't even looked back once to see where exactly Hideo was? Sure he was behind him, but Brock knew the exact angle to send the kick to hit Hideo. That interested Hideo greatly. The kick was coming in too fast. He wouldn't get out of it unscathed. Hideo leaned his head back while coming back down from his leaping spin slash. His face would be coming around by now to face Brock's back and that foot would be coming to greet him.
Just barely. He was only just barely able to avoid the full brunt of the kick. It pushed up against his jaw, though since he had leaned his head back, most of the kick would be off. He was coming down as the kick hit, so it caused him to fall as he landed due to being unbalanced by bending back as he came down. He quickly rolled away towards Brock's far left so that he could gain some distance in case Brock came after him with a follow-up attack. He quickly stood with his left hand rubbing his sore jaw. "Whoa there Brock! That was a strong kick. I would have had to say goodbye to my good lucks if that had connected!" he said while chuckling slightly. Wait a minute. Hideo was a program. A hologram of sorts to be exact. Would damage like that have really been permanent? Was Hideo just joking or was he serious?

OOC: I think we should finish this up soon, so I can collect some SP, so I can have a worthwhile upgrade, so I can finally become a productive member of the Gotei 13. However, I'd love to continue our training in another thread.
Manabu popped back up and twirled his blade all around him ending with a planted, semi-triumphant stance with eyes still closed. That was just for fun. He felt that Hideo had fallen back, but he no longer knew where he was. He opened his eyes again and looked at Hideo.
"Surely you'd get them back the next time you're loaded. Come to think of it, we've each had more than one close call today. I think I may have had enough for now. Shall we continue tomorrow... or the day after?"
This had been quite a day, as had yesterday. Brock was understandably tired. In fact, he'd probably have to take tomorrow off to recover.

Hideo stopped rubbing his jaw when Brock asked his question. His hand went behind his neck, rubbing that. He looked a little sad. Brock did need some rest. He wasn't a hologram like Hideo was, so he didn't have as much stamina. "Ah...yeah I guess you'd be tired by now. You're not a simulation like me..." Hideo said a little disappointed. Then he lowered his hand and flashed Brock a big smile. He waved his hand, and the wooden katana in their hands disappeared into thin air.
"Well, I guess I'll see you next time you come....unless you choose to train something else." Hideo said. He then bowed in Brock's direction and spoke when he came back up. "Manabu Brock, The Twelfth Division thanks you for your contribution to this training system. I would really like it if you came back again after the developments to the system have been implemented. You're strong Manabu Brock!" Hideo spoke. He waved towards Brock as everything melted around him. The beautiful field the two were fighting in just melted away to reveal the Barracks Dojo once more. Hideo was gone as well. His voice was replaced by a robotic voice that seemed to echo from the walls of the Dojo.
"Thank you for your contribution Manabu Brock. Come back another time. We will inform you when the system has been updated."
