Akio listed off a few random concepts that he had been researching, then played them off like they were nothing. Ghosts, monsters, dragon streams? Sounded like Kazura a few years back before he learned the names of Hollows, Shinigmai, and the like. But as for dragon streams, the fullbringer was at a loss. Had no idea what that was supposed to mean. "Dragon streams?" Kazura continued to listen as they walked through the shop. Little was catching his eye except for the guard of a Zanpakutou that was for sale. He stopped the tour to take a closer look at it. While it didn't seem to still have the purifying power of the soul sword, it was still interesting to look at up close.
"Yes, the land here is very rich with energy. One of the reasons that I've chosen to stay here to conduct my own research. I also have many spiritual beings in my employ. I focus on giving them a home to come back to while they're out living their lives in this spiritually dense town. While most of them also choose to help me protect this town from the spiritual threats, and are compensated extra for it, there is still a large group of people that choose to act in a more business role. What about you? What do you do to defend yourself against Hollows and the like? If you're doing research into this, I'm sure that you've been targeted by now?"
Shinigami reiatsu was still present in the guard, a brass-colored hexagon with a single triangular notch reversing the angle of a corner. There is no sign that the blade, hilt, or any other part of the missing sword. Akio was more concerned with explaining things one at a time to mention it just yet. "It is an archaic term, but I'm not in any position to change that. This land has a great deal more spiritual power, both the energy or force, and the tiny particles that are in the air, also extend into the ground, some underground paths seem to be easier for that power to flow along, and typically lead to areas it pools in beneath the surface, or between them." A simple enough explanation of what he'd been looking into. "Those flows are what I have been calling 'Dragon Streams'. Underground rivers of soul."
There's a bit of a gap in time between the mention of being targeted and the "A strange business to go into." He had been perfectly fine with everything Kazura said, except for the idea of having to defend himself. The matter of defense elicited a reaction that had to be cut off, a stutter of motion where he started one action, then rethought it, and moved a bottle of white sand closer into alignment with the others next to it, instead. "I don't do that, anymore. It was... entertaining, back when I was younger, but I lost to a Hollow already. It's easier to avoid conflict as I am." His situation was abnormal, and he had not wanted a reminder of that.

The fullbringer raised an eye at Akio and his philosophy on conflict. "Just avoid it? You know that there are innocents out there that can lose their lives at any minute to an enemy they cannot see, and you choose to just avoid it?" Kazura could get a little bit worked up over his feelings towards innocent humans who had no idea of the spiritual warfare being raged around them. Akio just choosing to avoid conflict because he lost once angered the man who had spent his whole early career losing and learning from it. Growing his technology and his power until one day he lost bad enough to form his own spiritual powers.
Kazura wouldn't stand for cowardice, and prepared to leave the shop without buying anything. "If you have really no intention of standing up for your fellow man, then I'll be on my way in peace. If I'm wrong about you... then come with me and at least train a little so you'll be more prepared against the next Hollow attack."
The Mortal stood quietly, it took him a moment to realize just how bad Kazura's reaction was, and what they'd done to upset them in the first place. They lean back a bit, under the imagined pressure of the argument he'd been given. It the word 'train' that outlined the most common misunderstanding he'd found. "What kind of training do you mean? Would it require having some kind of ability, like the Quincy or the doll-users?" If so, he hadn't counted in years, his original ability was some short-lived miracle he wasn't about to duplicate. A lot of people conflated his being able to see one of those with having one of those, but if anything, it was the other way around.

Hesitation. Curiosity. Acceptance.
Kazura hesitated as Akio expressed curiosity over the "training" that he had mentioned, leading to the fullbringer accepting the shop clerk as not being a coward. He had potential to be something more than just a researcher and one who avoided getting mixed up in the ways of the hollows. He could still stay a researcher to his core, no problem. Kazura was one of those himself, but Kazura also was a man of action who sought to gain the tools to keep humanity safer. "No, all you really need is the ability to see Hollows. I can give you the tools to keep you safe from them while protecting others that they seek out at the same time. Pure science is all that you need."
Holding out a hand, Kazura offered Akio a chance to come with him and leave the shop for now. To learn the ways of the fullbringer who had dedicated his life to protecting others and learning how to do so better. To learn how to equip himself for the task... If he was able and willing.

"You're the first to try applying science to matters of the soul." It was a surprise to the employee that someone would try that. He usually say spiritual matters were usually taken for granted, or giving some trappings of faith, or ritual. He had not, however, seen that as something to be studied and codified, set in place to be taken apart and understood. "Science and engineering are humanity's way of conquering the universe. I think you could change a lot of things, if you put enough resources into that work." He could easily see Kazura going forth to dissolve mysteries, demolish natural systems, and probably become a major figure for those who know there's a spiritual side to the world, one that wouldn't fade for long after they were gone.
"I would like to see you make advancements on that, but I can't leave with you tonight. I still work here" The call to personal action would have to be put on hold, until Akio's work was out of the way, though. And so he merely took hold of the hand, moved it up once, then back down, as mechanically as most other actions. He had a lot of reasons to accept, more than to reject them, for sure. But no amount of good reasons could overturn his existing schedule. "Simple contact information will be enough for now, I'll find time in my schedule for you shortly." He couldn't follow the path of a fullbringer, but he was at least willing to try a path at all.

I think you could change a lot of things, if you put enough resources into that work."
Kazura nodded. That was the point. To change the world, for the better, one advancement at a time. For now, he was content to improve the spiritual world's defenses against threats of the Hollow kind, but in time, he'd learn how to improve the average human lives as well. Too much power in the hands of the average human, though, would bring about too many fullbringers which could imbalance all of society. Imagining a world where just about anyone could open a bank vault with a twitch of their hand, while also blasting fire from their hands... Yeah, no, that power in the hands of a select few heroes would be just fine.
"I can't leave with you tonight. I still work here."
"Understandable. I won't ask twice. Here, my business card. Bring that to the tallest building in the business district here in Karakura when your schedule allows and they'll set up a meeting for you. I don't hand out the card to just anyone, so they'll clear up my schedule for you. Until next time, then."
And so Kazura left, lifting his hood for his privacy while on his way out, having bought nothing that interested him in the odd store.

"Have a nice day." Accepting and pocketing the offered business card with a shallow bow, and a wave of farewell, Akio watched as Kazura returned to the streets from whence he came. Waiting another minute or so before he returned to his desk and sat back down. The nights were long, and this was where he belonged during them. A false Quincy surrounded on all sides by artifacts that no longer were, at least not in the form they first had. The outside world was too rough for anything that wound up there, after all. Was he any different?
