{Spoiler}{RP Sample (3 Paragraphs)}Chance is such a fickle force of nature, weaving in and out of the favor of some, for others it is a endless bounty, never leaving their side like a loyal familiar, but for Ms. Nickel, chance has abandoned her, cast aside as her curse commands; if something is left up to chance and includes Haida, it's is extremely unlikely that Haida will ever end up on the receiving end of good luck. She opened up her laptop once more after pushing the hair of her face, working on some source code for a freelancing job that's due rather soon, and if she didn't email the file in time her work wouldn't see a single penny. "Of all the jobs to beavailble, it''s my usual luck to find one that doesn't give a lick of forward pay, I'll have to add this event to the spreadsheet then." She was running through the debugging process, but the time limit was coming up, being somewhat aware of this curse, or at least aware of her horrid luck, Haida needed to do everything in her power to combat her Osen.
Another 20 minutes pass by and her eyes felt strained once more, she closed the laptop and placed it at her side before stepping up and over to the counter. "Coffee's ready, I'm always stocking up on this stuff, then depleting large amounts near deadlines, I've got to get rid of this nasty habit." Albeit her distaste for her ritual, the programmer was already pouring coffee and creamer into her mug, and her hand is quick to make sure that it at her lips in no time. The tipped mug has a tacky design with the phrase 'Good luck!' plastered on top of the design. After a few moments to finish off her cup of 'joe, Haida eyes the clock "Hmm, 2:32 AM, I wonder if I'll wake up late- no, I wonder how late I'll wake up." She muses to herself before waltzing back to the couch to complete her job.
She had finally finished her component on the code, 10 minutes left until the cut-off time sending it to her employer's email address, only a minute later an error popped up 'Network Connection Failure, please try in 15 minutes' An irritated growl followed by "Like hell I'm going to let you pull me back into poverty you flawed asshole!" She tried every outlet she could and everything came back with an error, it was only moments before the contract would be violated; and Ms. Nickel had one chance left to send her code. She sent it through a dropbox link and a private twitter message, with such a robust system like a major social media network, chance wouldn't be an issue, at least the unlucky programmer hoped it wouldn't. All that was left was the silence of the early morning apartment and herself gazing up at the ceiling fan, wondering why her fate was as it had been handed to her: Why was her individual luck such an apparent concern for the universe? Would she be forever bound to this 'charm' until she dies? What does it mean for her? Questions like these crossed her mind nightly, and every night none of them prompted an actual answer, just more inquiries.

Height/Weight: 5'11, 198 lbs
{Spoiler}{Physical Description (Two Paragraphs)}Haida is a rather tall pear-shaped woman, and her 'diet' leaves her with a moderate amount of chub over her body. Her eyes are a deep hazel, although it is lighter than her ebony skin, although the birthmarks on her upper arms are a lighter tone than her eyes, and look vaguely akin to falling cards. Her hair is a dyed dirty blond, and is usually tied up in a messy bun; and when it's not it reaches a few inches past her shoulders. Her hands are still somewhat rough and callous from the manual labor she had to do as a child to get by, and her nails are chewed slightly due to her nervous habit. She has a single tattoo, across her shoulder blades it says 'ERROR: LUCK NOT FOUND' in a glitchy font.
Her outfits consist of two types: Sharp business suits/t-shirts with sweatpants and bunny slippers. Her t-shirts are usually in reference to some random band that she's seen in a concert or some random minimalist design, her sweatpants are all gray except for one tacky cyan colored pair that she wears on especially unlucky days. {Spoiler}{Likes, Dislikes, Goals, Fears, Etc.}Dislikes:

Flaws:
Habits:
Fears:
- Signs of bad luck: this one is pretty easy, but because of her Osen, Haida tries to be extra cautious with superstitious luck charms, and that includes bad luck charms, and her avoidance of them eventually turned into a distaste of things like black cats, ladders, spilled salt, etc.
- Dice or cards: This has less to do with her Osen and more to do with her family being brought done and broken apart by the failed casino business, it brings up painful memories whenever she remember it.
- Stew: A broth or stew-like dish makes her sick like stomach the next morning, and she doesn't find it appealing going down either due to it's chunky texture.
Hot Showers: Haida hates the feeling of hot water water splatter down on her skin, and always opts for cold or luke-warm water instead, although she prefers the former. - The term 'Jinxing': Haida dislikes this just because of the sheer absurdity of the term, although not in the usual way, since she believes her own luck is afflicted, but rather that anyone and everyone's luck is affected just by a few simple words, and secretly finds it somewhat insulting to her struggles with luck, but she lets that resentment go since she knows that no one knows of her long unlucky streak.
- Not being able to afford things: Haida usually keeps a good eye on her bank account, but if she looses track then it's ease for her to overspend and to find out she's unable to use her debit card or is out of on-hand cash, this reminds Haida of her helpless time in poverty back in Bogota, a period of her life she would rather not remember.
Likes:
- Tacky knickknacks: In an effort to alleviate suffering, Haida will sometimes buy tacky novelties on purpose so she has something to laugh at and keep as a reminder to goof around sometimes and that not everything is out to get her.
- Smiles: Just to look at someone's genuine happiness in physical form is enough to perk her up, especially if it's someone else's smile, a sort of conformation that things are ok.
- Tarantulas: Their creepy appearance and fuzzy feel to them are a perfect offset to her, and while she only has one as a pet, Haida grew up around the fuzzy little creatures as a child, and they gave her comfort when she needed it.
- Gourmet meals: While she's seldom able to afford such a luxury, Haida thoroughly enjoys fine dining on the occasion she can dish out the dough for the dishes, and when she can't do that, she'll settle for cheap knock offs of a luxury meal, which ruins any attempt at an actual diet.
- Challenges: When she's issued a challange, Haida has a weakness refusing it, not only is it due to her pride of her abilities, but also because she sees it as a chance to better herself, no matter if she wins or looses.
Flaws:
- Haida has a major problem with anxiety, which was influenced by her bad luck but it was mainly formed from her dangerous environment that she grew up in. She is a bit bitter when first meeting someone, and can come off as rude or even dismissive unless is a prospective employer.
- Haida depends on coffee a lot when under stress, and when she drinks too much the caffeine's effect wears off, leaving her prone to passing out for the next few hours.
- Haida spends a bit too much time discussing and reading up on online forums, and will loose track of time if she's too engaged, spending hours down the rabbit hole
- Ms Nickel has developed a nervous twitch with her left leg, and it's severity will increase as her nervousness/anxiety does, this serves as a hindrance when trying to appear strong or capable under pressure.
Habits:
- Haida bites her nails, especially in times of panic Haida will chew on her nails, not all in one sitting, but in short bursts in between moments.
- Before a big programming session or job, Haida will make a simple 'Hello World' program as a means of not only remembering her beginnings, but also to remind her that's she not saving the world or defusing a bomb, just simply writing a program.
- Every month Haida will buy a pack of dice and walk down to the river, rolling them into the stream before sitting down, trying to strengthen her resolve to fight this curse and make something of her self in spite of whatever has been brought upon her.
- Haida will mutter under her breath with a lot of swearing whenever she get annoyed more than usual.
Fears:
- Her biggest fear is to be done in by her bad luck: Haida barely made it out of a doomed life as an adolescent, and her Osen plagues her daily, despite all her efforts, there are still nights in which she will cower in fear at the idea that the one thing that will kill her is what she has fought all her life to defy. Haida fled to programming for this reason, being able to program gives her a great sense of control over absolutes, and it alleviates her fear of things being left up to luck, not only because other programmers put in strict code to not let thing fall into physical chance, but also that every job she takes she puts more code she knows is not up to chance, and feels a bit safer because of it.
- Becoming Obsolete: This is mainly brought on from her study with computer science theory and work on programming, but Haida has a nagging fear in the back of her mind that something better will come along to write programs for people, someone will outdo her when she needed to prove herself most, that she is just a temporary solution. This fear leads to her hesitation on big/important decisions in the fear that she will either mess it up or isn't the right person to make this choice.
Goals:- To improve her programming ability: This is more of a simple, ongoing goal that Ms. Nickel keeps in mind when she has something to do with her free time.
- To make something of herself despite her bad luck: Haida is incredibly spiteful of her curse, so much so that she's made it an active goal to achieve what she can while encumbered by her bad luck.
- Actually find a driving force: So far Ms Nickel has only strives for success and thriving in her competitive freelancing work space out of spite, and she realizes that it wont be enough to carry her throughout her life, so while she can't exactly achieve this goal through actively pursuing it, it's something she considers when looking at an event that would require dedication and loyalty.
Alignment: Chaotic Good.
{Spoiler}{Personality- Overall (4 Paragraphs)}Nickel Haida is -on first meeting her: jaded, bitter, and routine. Her 'better safe than sorry' approach to avoid her curse has led to this set-up, and it conflicts with her goal to find a drive. She wont be bitter and wont be as jaded around her prospective employers, yet she still give a routine conversation and greeting, as she sees it as a means to an end instead of meaningful interaction. While she does this, Haida will usually have her own conversation with herself about something else since she has become so used to this method of conversation. It's hard to break her out of the routine because of this, since at any given moment she will only be half-listening to who she's talking to. This can sometimes lead to her making mistakes when talking to someone, but it's most likely pointed out by her conversation partner and Haida corrects herself. Although her first impressions are meager at best, her true personality shows out after that initial state of 'acquaintancemanship', and is actually quite open on her thoughts and feels past this shield.
Beyond her semi-charade, Haida's nature is a little awkward, anxious, and determined. She will sometimes pause mid-conversation to try and words things correctly, and is cautious as to not say something she would find might blurt out something hurtful or 'jinx' something. When talking to her, unless it's a simple exchange of words or there's something more pressing at hand, get ready to sit and stay a spell as Haida will try her best to exhaust a subject when she and her conversation partner start it. This is one of the reasons Haida can find herself trapped on an online forum for a long night, and why she reads up so much on computer science theory, just because she enjoys exhausting a subject when she can. Ms Nickel will find herself making another pot of coffee whenever she gets on her conversational rants, as she's already gotten into the habit to stay up late. She isn't really aware when she sucks someone into a long conversation, but she's generally pretty polite when someone asks to leave in the middle of a conversation, which will leave Haida to herself and her thoughts, which can sometimes lead to an anxious and pensive mood.
Her anxiety plays a big part in her hindrances and certain personality traits, and it was fostered thanks to her rough childhood and her curse. She always has trouble taking a job because of her anxiety, that she'll fail her job and have to pay the fine, or that if she goes to get food in a certain hour her Osen will cause her to get mugged or something along those lines, and her anxiety makes it hard for someone to make a strong personal connection with her, since she is so apprehensive to step out of a comfort zone that she's set up for herself. This has made her more empathetic, her fear of being hurt makes it easier for her to connect to those who have been burned by the fire, and will be quite generous to those that have been. Mainly, it limits her, but sometimes, Haida has found her anxiety to be a slight boon, as it will limit her from taking unnecessary risk, although if you asked her she would rather live without it. Her anxiety will also show in her social life as well, as she will become wary of whether or not she is a 'burden' or and annoyance to who she's made friends with, and sometimes will need reassurance that she's not one of those things to them.
Haida has a awareness of her own personality, at least most of the traits, both negative and positive. In knowing this, Haida is a bit self-conscious whenever she's interacting with others and at random times by herself, wondering if she's letting her anxiety or bitterness get out of hand and leading them into an uncontrollable rate. It leads to a lot of warranted and sometimes unnecessary self-reflection, and will often make her look at her 2 majors fears. In an attempt to escape her negative feelings like these, Haida will usually retreat back to online forums. Her awareness does however let her know more about herself than others do like her limits and potential, and grants her more control over her abilities. Her self-analysis doesn't apply to others, however, so she doesn't know much about others nearly as easily as she would about herself. What Haida doesn't know about herself is her lousy ability to keep track of time, her tendency to strive to impress and outdo others, and her overall control over a situation; which usually leaves her with a false sense of no control.

-Powers-
{Spoiler}{Fighting Style (3 Paragraphs)}Haida was taught to fight in two fashions while growing up, evasive fighting to look for an escape, and biding her time to look for a weak point and abuse said weak point in a fight. If it were a weak opponent that she was fighting, then she wouldn't try escaping or biding her time, rather she would try to find a weakpoint right away and strike at it, using feints to throw off her opponent from her actual attacks. If the opponent is about the same skill level as or was somewhat stronger than her, then she would try to run, and if that isn't an option, be patient and try to learn her opponent's weak point instead of just guessing where it would be. If she were truly outmatched, then Haida would devote her entire time fighting to finding a way out and escape, using feints to get to a better position for escaping and hitting a weak point if it wasn't a costly risk, basically just wasting the opponent's time and exploiting weaknesses to escape.
With her main fullbring activated, Haida's fighting style changes considerably. She focuses attacks based on whether she knows her opponent's location or not, if she does, then she will try to chain her attacks together to make a much stronger single attack and quickly finish her opponent off. If she only knows her opponent's direction, then she will shoot with various algorithms and directions to find them and the quickest way for her shots to reach her opponent and then continue with her usual way of fighting (combining shots and quickly dispatching her opponent). Haida fighting style is odd in this way because even if she's unaware of her opponent's position, as long as she's able to sense their presence she will try to attack at a range instead of searching out her opponent, letting her attacks do that for her. The other oddity about this fighting style is the lack of defense for close up melee attacks, instead of defending she relies on hitting her opponent to distract them and keep distance between herself and her opponent.
Her secondary fullbring is used for three purposes: minor defense, info gathering, and counter attacks. The minor defense is for an enemy attacking with a ranged attack like Hado, and counter attacks are used for the same purpose, although the counter attack cant be controlled so it has to from a close range ranged attack or from an enemy that has to stay still for a moment. The data gathering is used on powerful attacks, Haida allows herself to get hit once from the attack and use the information she recorded to avoid being hit with it in the future; this has limited uses as it can't be used on attacks that would deeply would Haida, but using on weak attacks wouldn't have much use, but it's an important part of her bob-and-weave approach to fighting as it lets her know how to better avoid her opponents mid-level and more frequently used moves.

Main Fullbring Appearances:
- Sealed Appearance: Her trusty laptop that she stole all the way back in Bogota, Columbia. It's almost always on her person in a secure laptop bag. When it's not in it's bag, the laptop itself is a dark blue color, although about 3/8ths of that blue space is filled with silly or tacky stickers that she's decorated it with over the years she's had it. The keyboard is clean but worn down from it's use, and the screen slightly dimmed when turned on.
- Fullbring Level One Appearance: there are is a high-tech visor over Haida's eyes, it displays a 2-D grid on one side and what she's typing into the console on the other, the keyboard component from the laptop that looks as if it's been taken straight out of the laptop, including the tarantula stickers on the hot-bar, and lastly there's a white glove on her right hand that glows at the fingertips.
- Fullbring Level Two Appearance: Haida's visor now completely displays the grid, and can switch fro ma 2-d grid view to a 3-d one. There are now three keyboards in a horizontal arc infront of Haida for her to use. To use the two extra keyboards, there are now two pairs of gloves on the outside of her hands, which are connected to her with taught wires that resemble limbs.
Main Fullbring Name: Aquello Que Carves El Camino
'That Which Carves The Path'
Main Fullbring Level 1 Property:
- ------------'Script, Search, and Destroy' [100 Reiatsu]
- This property is used by typing a function into the keyboard and pressing enter. After doing so and setting on a target, a 'stab' of spiritual pressure will be shot out of Haida's chest. This 'stab' will go in a horizontal path set upon by the function (x=9 would shoot out a straight line to the right of Haida, y=x+3 will shoot out a diagonal line, etc). All shots are displayed on Haida's grid visor, where the position 0,0 is her position (each unit is about a yard in length), all shots start out from 0,0 unlesss specified(x=9 or taking on x=9 to the end of an algorithm would start the shot out 9 yards to the right, for example) Whenever the pathed stab runs into an object that's not the target, it will bounce off said object and move in the opposite direction. This stab will keep going unless it hits it's target or deflects off of 5 objects and hits another object. If two shots happen to collide, then their shots will combine with a power that's a 50% increase of the average combined power. However, just entering any equation or algorithm wont work, circles, parabolas, or any other equation that splits off into more than one direction wouldn't work. The shots would move at about 600 SPD. The shots themselves are about the thickness and length of a heavy lance, so about 9 feet long and 2 inches thick, and since they fire fro mthe chest, start off on a 2-D plane that is 4'1" off the ground, unless spyware is applied.
- List of examples for general equations for which I plan to use this:
- Constant: 'y=3 or x=3' These functions will fire shots in a straight direction either forward/back or left/right, and when hitting and object they will go in the opposite direction.
- Linear: 'y=2x+5' These functions will fire shots in a diagonal direction, the number next to x determines how much the line moves over for every #, # being the number added to x, so for every 2 units right, the line moves up 5 units.
- Radical: 'y=√x' These functions will fire shots in a curve, this one would fire it forwards and to the right. If x is multiplied, the arc will widen (y=√3x) and if y is multiplied, the arc will thin (3y=√x) If x is multiplied by a negative number, then it will curve to the left instead of the right And if y is multiplied by a negative number, it will shoot backwards instead of forwards
- Restrictions/translations: These are a bit special, as they aren't on their own functions, but modifications to functions. Restrictions are needed for linear and constant functions, as those are lines that go both ways and the shots are only supposed to move one direction. An example of this would be 'y>0 or x<3' in' y>0', the function has to move in the direction greater than 0 units in forward/backwards distance to 0,0, or relative to Haida since she's the 0,0 marker, and it would be similar in 'x<3' that the shot has to move the direction less than 3 units.Translations are just moving the function left or right, and only apply to radical functions in this case, 'y+3=√x' would move the radical back 3 units 'y=√x-2' would move the radical right two units, etc.

- ------------'Spyware' [75 Reiatsu]
- This fires a simple shot at the enemy, yet unlike her level 1 property, it will only go in a straight line, and if it connects, it causes no damage, instead it will track the target's horizontal and vertical location instead of general location, and for the rest of the time that the fullbring is released all shots will start at and move to the target's vertical position as the target moves up and down, instead of just being limited on the same level it was fired from, the shots are now 'introduced' to a 3D plane instead of a 2D one, where they can move left-right, forward-backward, and up-down instead of the former two, and move up-down to match the target's position.
- ------------'Trojan Horse' [275 Reiatsu]
- This works closely like the 'Script, Search, And Destroy' property as it will fire a shot in the same fashion, except at 300 SPD. The other difference is that it deals damage differently, when it hits, will stay on the target and deal damage after either 5 regular shots are fired or her fullbring is sealed. After every shot that hits the target, the shot will explode, it's strength equal to that of the shots that hit the target in those 5 regular shots. Say if one of those 5 shots misses in that time, it does not count towards 'Trojan Horse's explosive power.
- ------------'Ransomware' [400 Reiatsu]
- Like the 'Trojan Horse' property, this attack is similar in execution, but varies in effect. It fires at a speed of 200, and only works if it hits a technique instead of a target, but if it hit the technique successfully, then the user of the technique can no longer use that technique until they 'give' twice the Reiatsu required to use this technique, and in turn, Haida also has to give up a technique of equal or greater class. Half of the reiatsu that the target gives up will be transferred back to Haida, and the other half will be lost in the transaction.
Secondary Fullbring Appearances:
- Sealed Appearance: It's sealed appearance is simply a USB with a piece of paper taped to it that says 'Luck Spreadsheets'. The stick has a slide function to hide the metal end.
- Released Appearance: The container end of the USB has expanded to the size of a sword hilt, although it's lacking a guard and still has the appearance of a USB-stick. The metal end is no longer there, and when the slide function is pushed out, instead of the metal end what appears is a rectangular shield in the form of a spreadsheet from the data on the USB.
Secondary Fullbring Properties:
- ------------'New Spreadsheet' [250 Reiatsu]
- When this property is called out the next attack to hit the shield wont be blocked, rather the details about that attack (It's cost, ability, power, etc) will be displayed/stored on the spreadsheet and if the primary fullbring is activated, the data will appear on the visor as well. This data is kept on the USB, and cannot be used if the USB is full. This spreadsheet can be viewed using a laptop/ other source, but any of the information retaining to techniques on the USB cannot be uploaded to any other device. The USB has 128 GB of memory, and the amount of memory the technique takes up varies based on class.
- Class 8: 1 GB
- Class 7: 3 GB
- Class 6: 9 GB
- Class 5: 18 GB
- Class 4: 36 GB
- Class 3: 45 GB
- Class 2: 54 GB
- Class 1: 63 GB

- ------------'Cut And Paste' [325 Reiatsu]
- When this property is called out, the next attack to hit this shield will be absorbed by the shield and shot back out; if the attack would be strong enough to break through the shield then the ability will backfire, causing the initial attack to be 25% stronger. The shield would break if the offensive stat of the attack was greater than Haida's Reiastu Strength.
{Other Techniques}
Technique Name: Luck's Fickle Nature
Class: N/A
Technique Type: Osen
Technique Element: Curse
Technique Description and Effects: Every post when either of her fullbrings are released: the first post on her fullbring being released, Haida only has a 5% chance of losing Reiatsu. Rolling a d20, if she rolls a 1, 100 Reiatsu is lost. If it is not lost, then the chance doubles, and a d10 is rolled. This repeats as the die range shrinks to 5, then 3, then 2, and then finally it automatically triggers. When Reiatsu is lost, the counter is reset. When her fullbrings aren't released, every post, an act of misfortune will fall upon Haida, and every 5 posts, the misfortune will increase in severity, and will start out as stubbing her toe. As a passive effect, Haida is unable to win/be on the positive outcome of any chance-based outcome.
How to use technique: Haida cannot escape her curse, and is stuck with it until she dies.

-History-
Birthplace: Bogota, Colombia
Current Residence: Karakura Town, Japan
Memorable Figures:
- Nickel Kiddi: This is Haida's uncle, she owes him her life in more ways than one, she learned from him how to survive in the tough enviorment she grew up in, and that no matter what is given to her she isn't completely helpless, there is something she can do.
{Spoiler}{History (11 Paragraphs)}The Nickel family had a prosperous casino located in Bogota, Columbia. This casino had been around for decades, and was a well known source of pride for the Nickel family; 'Never let chance bet your abilities, let your abilities bet chance.' was the family's creed, and would turn out to be quite the ironic phrase once Haida was born. Everything seemed to be business as usual, her father was made to be the owner of the CEO and shortly married her mother, and the whole family was happy and successful up until Haida's delivery. At first, her curse was small and barely noticeable, let alone anything capable of effecting the family business; a burnt meal here, a shaving mishap there when Haida roamed around, on rare occasions the power would go out only in her district, but that was the extent of the early effects. The immediate family (Which included her father, mother, and uncle), shrugged it off as adjusting to having a child in the home and the hectic life that follows with a newlywed couple.
It was at the meager age of 3 that Haida's Osen became more than minor inconveniences. Due to her mother being a busy reporter and her father being busy running the casino, it was her uncle that took care of her, and since he worked part time at the casino, Haida would often find herself in Kiddi's arms as he worked the day shift in the casino at one of the more popular tables as a dealer for blackjack; a game that is known for it's advantage for the house. As Haida observed the game more and more, Kiddi was loosing more and more frequently, and the usual of the casino took note of Kiddi's loosing streak; his table became more and more popular until Haida's father took notice. Mr. Nickel was a firm and somewhat over-cautious owner, and threatened to fire his own family member if Kiddi didn't improve his winnings.
The uncle looked at Haida as the source of his apparent loss of skill, not that she was actively doing something to influence him, just that it's hard to gamble and hold a child at the same time, the simple solution was to buy a stroller and place her at the side of the table instead of constantly holding her, and this actually seemed to make Kiddi a better blackjack dealer for a short while; but what was actually happening was that Haida was making the gambler's luck worse since she was now able to look at multiple hands moving cards of pretty and interesting quality instead of just her uncle's. This didn't cause much of an uproar, and in fact the incident went away without anyone noticing because Haida's father realized it would probably just be better to hire a baby-sitter to stay at the casino's waiting area than to burden Kiddi and risk another loosing streak. Haida was kept fairly entertained fairly easily, as she had a perfect view of the casino from the indoor window that let the now 4-year old toddler gaze over the flashing lights of roulette tables, slot machines, and gambling tables, it was a glorious sight to behold, and in her small mind she felt involved in all that she saw, even if she didn't understand it; and while if she could formulate this into words it would be heart touching, it was still what would cause the downfall of a long-standing family business and Haida's cushy life.
Because of the large scale of what she felt involved in, her Osen worked it's way slowly into the luck of all of the gamblers at the casino. It began first with the various games of poker and blackjack that Haida was so deeply engrossed with in her time with Kiddi's shifts, and while there were certainly complaints about the sudden difficulty in being able to win anything, something non-electronic like poker and black-jack couldn't be easily rigged if at all on a large scale; their popularity fell a considerable amount but no serious blows were dealt to the long-standing business. Next came the roulette tables, how Haida loved the spinning wheels that everyone cheered around, although as she doodled with crayons of what she saw below, what was happening below was nothing close to her fantasy; people were making claims and starting rumors about the good name of the 'Nickel and Dine' casino, traffic to the casino declined, yet there were still the addicts and loyalists that kept it going, although Haida's parents would of been fools not to realize the trend that was occurring, they both took it differently.
Haida's father started to tighten security and more regularly scheduled maintenance checks on the slot machinates and roulette tables, it caused financial strain on the family to have so much staff on hand, but still were relatively well off. Her mother, however, took a more personal offense to the occurrences. Not being born into the Nickel family, didn't hold nearly as much loyalty in the integrity of the casino as her husband did, and went on a private investigation to see if there was something less innocent that manufacturer error. This distrust started a divide that showed in the monthly family meetings and would later lead to their divorce. These monthly meetings included all family members, from cousins to grandparents and anyone else who was involved in the family business, which was to say, a lot of people. Haida was in these meetings as they usually took place late at night after any baby sitter would be available. She must of only been 4 or 5 years old during those intense meetings, while she doesn't remember much, she remembers one thing they talked about quite a lot: that the luck of any gambler that walked in the casino was worse than ever, and that constantly brought up concern still remains in her memory.
While gambling addicts and loyalists seem like the least threatening to complaints, when all their trust is betrayed, these two types are explosive and angry. This betrayal came with the corruption of the slot machines. Nothing in the circuit boards changed, or anything to do with it's programming, but just because it was ultimately left up to chance. People started to shake the machines after their tenth loss in a row, the rumors about the casino and Ms. Nickel's secretly leaked work on the place as a reporter left the stragglers aggravated, it was only a matter of weeks after Haida's Osen afflicted the slot machines for the stragglers to start getting physical. At this time, while Haida was allowed to be left alone in the waiting room or have a playmate over, during this time her father kept Haida by her side in the same room, as he thought it to be the safest place. One day a riot finally broke out, Mr. Nickel was too prideful to falsely admit to rigging his games, and the self-righteous gamblers took to straight up violence and rioting.
Haida's father kept inside of his office and knew that the people were coming, he called down Kiddi to take Haida and run far away. These rioters weren't simply people who were mad at the fact they had been ripped off, these were long term customers of the service the Nickel family provided, and now that they have been forced into thinking that all the years and money they've poured into the casino were just taken from them in an unfair way; these people wanted revenge, Kiddi also realized this and took Haida in his arms, he ran, he sprinted into the city and kept running until they must of been a city or two over, nothing of that past life was left for Haida, none of the fortune, the family creed, or her previous happiness. Thus began a new era for the 6 year old in am impoverished urban area with only her uncle to look after her. Kiddi wasn't able to secure any sort of finances before he had to flee, and thus they were left homeless.
Kiddi considered street gambling, but he feared that going back down that route would lead to a similar fate. So he worked for a demolition crew during the day and fed/cared for Haida at night. When she grew a little older, Haida felt helpless, and even worse, she felt like a burden on her uncle, the one person what cared about her now and in her mind, she was dragging him down. Haida resorted to whatever she could think of to get money, although it was mostly begging and pick-pocketing or other forms of petty theft during the day. This led to Haida getting in trouble on a regular basis, and as she grew up, these times where she got caught grew from Kiddi getting scolded and evolved into the blame and punishment being shifted onto Haida, she would be attacked sometimes in response to her crimes instead of being reported to the police. Kiddi was able to protect her for the first few times, but he knew that he wouldn't be there at every moment she got in trouble, and began passing down tactics for her to weasel her way out of a fight or weak points in someone's defense; they were mainly evasive techniques to get away, but sometimes offensive moves if she had to use them. Life continued in this hectic and unstable way until she was 12, when she would finally learn of programming and obtain her laptop.
Kiddi sometimes told Haida what happened and why they were in the position that they were in, not to vent or to bring Haida down, but rather he always ended it in a way that sounded like it was already going to happen, and that to get out of there was a blessing in disguise. Yet after many bouts of unlucky events, Haida felt something was wrong with her luck, it wasn't long until she was able to connect the dots and realize that her bad luck had an something to do with the fall of her family business, no matter how much her uncle may insist otherwise. This led to a minor self-hatred, and in that turbulent emotion Haida looked outwards and tried to avoid her own emotions, focusing on other things instead. This worked for a few months, that was until she went out purchasing that night's dinner for her and her uncle, only to see something out for sale at an electronics store across from the market. The pre-teen never really paid much attention to the store, for it's flashy lights reminded her of her old life. But today, today she saw something in the front window that she couldn't take her eyes off of; it was a laptop, an old, on clearance laptop on display. That night, Haida was about two hours late because she was in the store just marveling at the world she just discovered. At age 13, the two Nickel family members finally moved into a cramped, yet decent apartment, and Haida began saving up her meager earnings to buy the laptop. Although it's easy to see such a goal was futile for a child like her in poverty, and eventually Haida realized that earning it through saving up would simply lead in her just loosing her savings in some freak accident or the laptop would have been sold already, which by the way was a miracle it wasn't sold already.
Shortly after realizing this, Haida snuck out of the apartment and broke into the electronics store. While normally her curse would have made it impossible to sneak around in a camera monitored business like this one, Haida was able to apply Kiddi's evasive techniques to take the laptop and one other thing, a 'programming for dummies' book. While she originally didn't plan on takign anything else but the laptop and charger, but something about the silly graphic caught her eye. While she did steal the laptop and book, Haida left all the money she saved up in her childish attempt of legally purchasing the laptop on the counter to lessen any grudges the store owner might hold against her, even if she wouldn't be caught for it. Money or not, Haida made an important advancement and realization that day. She not only realized that despite her luck, she was able to get ahead in life, and that she actually accomplished this feat. Her uncle didn't feel the same way, yet he let her keep it because if he tried to return it, he was scared that he or his niece might be arrested if either of them confessed to the crime.
From 13-17, Haida studied intensely on programming, most of her free time was put into bettering herself, this along with steady encouragement by her uncle led to her prowess in programming, so much so that she eventually became a moderator for a code-help forum. At the time she saw this as a hobby, a strongly loved hobby, but a hobby nonetheless. After a few months as a mod on the forum, she realized that she could do something more with her ability to create scripts than a fun pass-time and escape from her Osen. As soon as she was 18, Haida started to take small freelancing jobs to save up for a plain ticket to San Francisco, although more importantly to her, it was part of an area known as 'Silicon Valley'. She gained and lost money, her curse making it more of an ordeal to get her passport and money in order, eventually she was ready to leave at age 20. Although, once more her luck failed her and instead, she ended up on the wrong flight, heading over the pacific ocean and to Karakura, Japan. While at first the young adult was trying her best to make it to America and fight back completely against her curse, but after half a year of struggling again, Haida realized that if she could make something out of what she was given instead of rejecting it completely, she would truly best the luck against her, and that she would, for once, let her abilities bet chance. At age 22, Ms. Nickel still has her original laptop, although she's given it plenty of upgrades, it's still the same laptop case and still has it's tacky stickers labled onto it. She's moved into downtown Karakura, gotten one tattoo across her back, and is at least known around town by shops she frequents.
