-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 6’3”, 183
Physical Description:
As far as the Espada go, Ryunosuke is fairly attractive. And, quite honestly? The most human of them at a casual glance. He doesn’t possess the same killing intent that many of the others have, or rather he’s far better at hiding it than any of them. His features are imperfect enough that he doesn’t have that unearthly beauty that some spiritual creatures manage, and his mannerisms are all very human, in a way that makes it hard, perhaps impossible, to believe that he is the Cuarta Espada.
Ryunosuke’s hair is one of the things that sticks out, as it is silver. In life, he was actually a very light brunette, but during the process of becoming a Hollow, and then Vasto Lorde before having his mask broken and becoming an Arrancar, it was turned silver, dyed with the color of his reiatsu. The connection between his hair color and his reiatsu is very evident when he starts unloading massive amounts of reiatsu, which causes his hair to begin glowing, illuminated by the reiatsu within it.
Ryunosuke keeps his hair short, barely reaching his neck, and doesn’t apply product to it. It’s straight, but layered thickly in such a way that makes it appear almost spiky at the tips. The bangs are long enough that he has to continuously brush them out of his eyes, which is a pain. But he refuses to cut it, under the grounds that it isn’t too much of a hassle, and besides, he likes it that way anyways. Typically, he uses his right hand to brush the hair aside, a motion that has clearly become deeply ingrained in his nature.
His skin tone is pale, but that isn’t because he doesn’t go outside often enough. He actually goes outside a great deal, but it’s kinda impossible to get a tan in Hueco Mundo, because of the lack of sun. In general, Ryunosuke doesn’t tan, or burn, easily, just due to genetic lottery. And it’s probably good that that is the case, because if it wasn’t, he would likely have a rather embarrassing tan line due to his general choice of apparel, which he wears every day, or at least damn close.
So, we should probably discuss the apparel choice that was just mentioned. Ryunosuke prefers to wear a suit, made of specially woven threads so that it doesn’t get destroyed when he actually starts to unleash his full power. Typically, he wears a black tie with the suit, but has been known to switch it up on occasion. Ryunosuke, in general, continues the fine tradition of Espada being well dressed. He doesn’t reject the classic stereotypical dress, but instead embraces it.
Also worth noting, Ryunosuke wears a necklace, which has a dog chain on it. This necklace is quite precious to him, and if one was to read the dog chain, they would notice it has Kanji that reads ‘My Sweet Dragon’ on it. When pressed about it, he will usually redirect the conversation away from the necklace, and generally speaking will refuse to talk of it. Before his promotion, this necklace wasn't visible under his tie. This, however, has changed.
Ryunosuke used to wear a several rings before his promotion to Segunda. Now, however, Ryunosuke no longer wears his rings anymore, as the jewelry doesn't really do it for him. They're locked away, in safe keeping, in his room in Las Noches. He still wears his dog tag necklace, of course, but now wears it wrapped around his left wrist, instead of hidden and around his neck. He reinforced it with Sekki Sekki powder, obtained from Takashi Kuchiki, so that it wouldn't shatter when he fully utilizes his power, but beyond that, it is unchanged and normal.
When Ryunosuke’s reiatsu is pouring off of him, it takes on a silvery color, almost looking like quicksilver. Typically, it feels like that as well. Ryunosuke’s reiatsu feels slick, as if you can’t wash it off, and it slithers through every nook and cranny to occupy as much space as possible. This is what Ryunosuke’s reiatsu feels like when he is just generally using it, and his Cero are colored the same as his reiatsu. However, when Ryunosuke is fully utilizing his reiatsu, it has a completely different nature about it.
Ryunosuke has started to reveal that he possesses a second type of reiatsu. The first type, the quicksilver type, is the one that is known to all who he has met. It is the reiatsu of his Deception aspect of death. But now, Sargon has learned that Ryunosuke possesses a second, secret reiatsu. The secret reiatsu is crimson in color, and feels burning hot, like someone is being smothered in flames. But simultaneously, it feels solid, spiked even. This reiatsu is Ryunosuke's True Reiatsu, when he is not lying to himself and others. It is the reiatsu of Revenge. But he has to suppress it, not let it be apart of himself, for if he reveals it, he is in danger of the great Demon of De-Mona taking note of him. And so he crafted the technique Reiatsu Lie in order to conceal the nature of his reiatsu.
Since he's received a promotion, Ryunosuke has had his Espada tattoo changed. Whereas before, it was only visible when his shirt was off, and was a Four, now that he's the second strongest Espada, he can't quite hide his status like that anymore. Now, the tattoo is clearly visible on the palm of his right hand, so that it's the last thing that people see before he unleashes a Cero the size of a mountain in their general direction. The two is blocky, and clearly stylized.
Oh, and we nearly forgot some of the most important parts. If he were to remove his shirt, for whatever reason (bow chika bow wow), one might do a double take when they noticed two holes in his body. One at his sternum, a few inches down from the center of his chest, and another where he would normally have a belly button, both of them about three inches in diameter. These holes run straight through his entire body, they are his hollow holes. That’s right, plural. Ryunosuke’s soul acquired two holes during his period of time as a hollow, for reasons that are unknown to him at the present moment. Additionally, there is the matter of his mask fragment. It is located in the form of a ridge of sorts, in-between his left ear and scalp, so that it looks like there is bone jutting out of his skull. No need to be alarmed however, that’s just the fragment.

-Personality-
Dislikes:
1 - Flowers. Never offer Ryunosuke flowers. Never show him your garden. Never mention how romantic it would be to give someone a beautiful bouquet of roses. Just, for your sake, the sake of loved ones, for the flowers sakes, just don’t. Ryunosuke has memories associated with flowers, memories that he’d rather just put away forever, and people who remind him of those memories are terminated with extreme prejudice. Especially white roses. White roses are the key of the worst of those memories, and thus get the largest reaction out of him.
2 - Being Woken. Dude, if Ryunosuke is sleeping, let him goddamn sleep. He has enough trouble falling asleep that denying him the few hours he gets, when he gets it, is a dick move. Especially because chances are it’ll be a good dream when you wake him, because that’s just how life ends up being. On the other hand, don’t attack him in his sleep. That’s a super low blow. On the one hand, Ryunosuke himself has killed a lot of people while they lay dormant in their beds. On the other hand, he’d react badly to it if it happened to him.
3 - TV Shows. Ryunosuke just doesn’t really get TV. It doesn’t work for him. And before you say that’s stupid, that there’s a lot of TV out there, he’s tried. He’s watched reality shows, didn’t work. He’s seen cartoons, hated them. He’s watched soap operas, police dramas, epic fantasy tales, and none of them worked. Maybe it’s just the medium. Maybe he can’t sit still, staring at moving colors for that long. He likes books, he likes movies, but TV doesn’t do it for him.
4 - Birds, and Bird Motifs. Ryunosuke cannot stand people who have Bird Motifs, whether it is people who liken themselves to Owls, Hawks, Doves, goddamn Turkey Vultures even. Birds aren’t cool. Birds aren’t interesting. If you like a bird, you can go screw yourself. Ryunosuke’s feelings on birds don’t even seem to come from a place of trauma, or have any rational logic behind them, he just hates birds. Hates the way they fly, hates the way they eat, goddamn everything about them.
5 - Old People. While, technically speaking, Ryunosuke is over 100 years old and is quite definitively ‘Old’, that’s not what he means when he says he dislikes Old People. He dislikes people who say shit like “Back in my day” or demand respect because they just happen to have lived on this world for a while. Ryunosuke is young at heart, and doesn’t seem like he ever left his ‘Yeah, fuck the system!’ phase, especially in regards to dealing with authority figures.
6 - Public Speaking. Ryunosuke is a cool, collected individual with a habit of swearing a lot, at least when he’s hanging out with friends, or threatening enemies, but put him in front of a crowd and it’s just like he shuts down. He starts sweating, stammering, and repeats himself like three or four times, in different ways, before moving onto the next point. We’re talking full blown “The poison. The poison for Sozen, the poison chosen especially to kill Sozen, Sozen’s poison. That poison?” here.
7 - Fucking Censorship. Look, Ryunosuke doesn’t tell you what to say, so don’t tell him what to say. It’s that fucking simple. You can tell him that there are children around, or detail the circumstances however you want, but if you ever directly order him to stop fucking swearing, or to maybe be quieter, then you’re gonna get a cluster bomb of curse words. Ryunosuke hates people trying to control his actions, but this primarily applies to censorship, and requests to be quiet. He’ll be quiet when he wants, or needs to be quiet
8 - Xcution. Yeah, this isn’t a professional complaint, it’s a purely personal one. Ryunosuke wanted to join Xcution when he first acquired sentience as an Arrancar, mostly just because the organization seemed more his line of work. Unfortunately, Xcution has a policy regarding who can join, those racist pricks, and Ryunosuke was ineligible just because he happened to have eaten a shit ton of people before becoming sentient. Dicks. So, he settled with Las Noches instead. However, he still holds a grudge against Xcution.
9 - Poison. Honestly, out of the members of assassination that Ryunosuke has brushed up against, he really, really dislikes Poison. It just seems so lame. If you want safety in your assassination, why not just become a better aim and take the guy out from a few blocks away? If you want them to suffer, cut them up with a knife. If you want to minimize chance of survival, them just bomb the building. Some call poison a cowards tool, but Ryunosuke just thinks it’s underwhelming.
10 - Physical Affection. Okay, not quite a dislike, Ryunosuke isn’t asexual, he’s just super uncomfortable with people showing physical affection towards him. It’s bizarre, and he just seems to get really flustered or embarrassed when people get all touchy-feely with him. Maybe if he wasn’t so much of a flirt, it could be understood, but the guy is constantly hitting on pretty girls, and doesn’t flinch when they flirt back. But they second they lean in for a kiss, he’s scrambling backwards, blushing like mad, and making excuses.
11 - Horror Movies. He’s not scared of them, he just doesn’t like the gratuitous blood, and the overdone plot. He’ll watch a lot of movies that have one, or the other, but having both isn’t forgivable. Maybe if it’s a particularly meta, or self aware horror movie, Ryunosuke might consider it, such as Cabin in the Woods, or if it is a horror movie that has a legitimately good story, but otherwise, you can forget about it, he just isn’t interested. He doesn’t look down on people who do like them, he himself just isn’t interested.
12 - Whichever Asshole Zarpa Has The Number 2. Inheriting Kuroi’s position hasn’t come without a cost to Ryunosuke. Kuroi made a lot of enemies in his time as Segunda, and made a very large name for himself in the process. Based on what Ryunosuke has learned, there exists a group of Arrancar out there, dedicated to killing the Espada, and Ryunosuke is certain that whichever one has the number 2 probably has it because of how much they dislike Kuroi. Which is gonna make their attacks on his life that much more frustrating.
Likes:
1 - Weapons. Ryunosuke isn’t picky about the weapons that he likes, he generally just likes tools of mayhem and destruction. Swords are cool, bows are neat, gauntlets can be fun, no one minds a war hammer every so often, and who can complain about a spear? Of course, Ryunosuke has a special place in his heart for guns. Personally, he just feels at home using them. Whether up close and personal with one, or thrown into a firefight, or placed two miles away and given the go ahead to put someone out of their misery, Ryunosuke feels most comfortable when he has a loaded gun in his hands.
2 - Stephen King Novels. That dude is a prolific as fuck writer, and honestly the quality doesn’t really suffer. Although Ryunosuke has hardly put a dent into the goddamn mountain that is Stephen King’s complete works, he’s read a handful of the books, and enjoyed every last one. The Long Walk definitely made him think for a while about the life choices that he made (As much as any novel really can force you to do that, it’s not like it’ll actually change anything, but the moment of introspection can be good for the soul).
3 - Kicking Ass. Ryunosuke is in love with fighting things. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, better than beating someone down with your bare hands, with executing someone who is kneeling with a bullet through the brain, with blowing someone in half with a Cero. Honestly, Ryunosuke would actually say that hand to hand combat is the most enjoyable of those three, even if his proficiency with it is arguably the worst out of those options. But yeah, Kicking Ass, Tacking Names, that’s the way that Ryunosuke likes to operate.
4 - Fall Out Boy. Some of their more recent stuff isn’t quite up Ryunosuke’s alley, but he respects the band a great deal as musicians, and has a tendency to blast their music when he’s fighting people. Ranking wise, he’d argue that their first album was their best, then Folie a Deux, then their second album, then their most recent one (Save Rock and Roll. He’s in denial regarding the monster atrocity was PaxAm Days, yuck). Ryunosuke is undecided whether he likes the lyrics or the music more, but regardless, he knows that he couldn’t even pretend to ever forget about them.
5 - The Bingo Book. It’s really convenient to have a reference list of the high priority targets in the Three Worlds, not to mention a basic description of their powers. Of course, three of the big ones on that list are on Ryunosuke’s team, so there’s no need to worry about them. Besides that though, there’s plenty of people who Ryunosuke thinks he has decent odds of beating who are worth quite the pretty penny. But beyond the bounty part, the Bingo Book is also useful because it lists who the target is wanted by. Who an organization wants dead tells you a lot about the political landscape of that organization/
6 - Battles of Subterfuge. Weirdly enough, although Ryunosuke is so fond of fighting people in a very direct and personal way, he absolutely delights in battles where the first bullet launched is the last one. Cat and mouse style games, games that bring in civilians and family members, battles that first hit on a social level before a physical one. Ryunosuke loves sniper battles, where the only thing more important than aiming better than your opponent is hiding better than them. This is why his aspect of death is Deception, because he is the king of it.
7 - Cheating. This mostly applies to card games, but it has extended to other games, or duels, or tests, in the past. To Ryunosuke, rules were set up in order to make games more interesting, but not because they restrict the person playing them. Rules are interesting because they state implicitly the best strategies. Rules force you to consider other options, but to be honest, once Ryunosuke get’s an idea in his head, it’s rare that he’ll ignore it. Effectively, you may argue that you aren’t allowed to lie about the contents of your hand in Go Fish, but Ryunosuke will say that you totally are, as long as you don’t get caught.
8 - Rodents. Ryunosuke used to have a pet rat when he was alive, and really was quite fond of the little guy. This has influenced Ryunosuke’s general opinions on rodents in general, and they’re likely his favorite type of animal. With the notable exception of capybaras, which make him uncomfortable. Like, they’re called a rodent, but they are actually kinda big and that’s very, very strange. Ryunosuke doesn’t trust capybaras, they’re definitely up to something, we just don’t know what yet.
9 - Codes. Okay, this might seem childish, but using Code Words, or Code Names, or Coded Phrases makes Ryunosuke giddy. Like, it seems so secretive, and official. While he will keep a professional appearance during missions when Codes are used, after the mission is over he’ll freak out. Codes are fascinating because they are a specific type of lie, a lie that is understood by those you deem to be worthy of the lie, but completely alien to those who you don’t think should get it. Absolutely genius.
10 - Illusionists. Well, while he doesn’t strictly speaking mind people with illusion based powers, when Ryunosuke says he likes illusionists, he means magicians. Like the guys that do card tricks or make cars vanish or saw ladies in half, and not in the gross way that Arrancars sometimes do. Illusionists are basically people who lie for money, but they aren’t actors since there’s a ton of skill involved in their craft. Plus there’s also this sense of honor like “A magician never reveals his secrets”. That’s so goddamn cool.
11 - Mexican Standoffs. He hardly needs to explain this, but it feels great to be in a situation where literally everyone involved is dangerous and capable of killing the others. Largely, it’s great because it rarely happens, so rarity makes it more fun. Plus, Ryunosuke has yet to come out of such a standoff as one of multiple survivors, he’s kinda great at using them to his advantage. One day, he hopes to be involved in one with at least two Seven Guns, that would be pretty goddamn awesome.
12 - Getting Even. There is no feeling in life greater than getting even with some asshole who pissed you off earlier. No combat feels half as good as a combat against someone who you owe horrible vengeance. Ryunosuke favors subtle revenges over overt ones typically, it’s much better to ruins someone’s entire life slowly than just shooting them, but he’s done both in the past. Honestly, pisisng off Ryunosuke is a bad idea for your long term survival: the Cuarta doesn’t fuck around in the slightest.
Flaws:
1 - Excessive Cursing. Ryunosuke curses way too fucking much. It’s rare that he’ll make it through more than two sentences without cursing at least once. And sometimes, he’ll just encounter that one stupid motherfucker that forces him to curse up a fucking storm because of all the stupid shit that comes out of their mouth, and then everyone thinks that he’s a loud mouthed, obnoxious idiot. Which sucks, because it’s not that accurate. Ryunosuke is fairly intelligent, and knows how to hold is tongue at times, but his perchance for cursing makes that a little less obvious.
2 - Shameless Flirt. Ryunosuke flirts with basically any girl he thinks he has a chance with, as well as some that he doesn’t. Hell, even people that he has to kill, he’ll frequently flirt with. What’s the end goal? Even he’s uncertain. He isn’t the biggest fan of just casual sex, but a relationship would probably be a bad idea at this point in time. One thing that is common however is that Ryunosuke will typically be unwilling to flirt or hit on his coworkers (which isn’t a huge issue because there isn’t really any of them that would be worth him screwing), largely because he doesn’t like to mix business and pleasure.
3 - Vengeful. The way Ryunosuke behaves, you would assume that he, not Adalo, had the aspect of Vengeance. Ryunosuke holds grudges like no one’s business, and the way he acts on them seems borderline sociopathic. He’s methodical, his anger isn’t a red hot one, it is a slow, cold anger that freezes your extremities until they can be shattered with a single blow. Luckily, few people have done enough to actually incur that wrath, since Ryunosuke is a relatively easy going person. The few that have? They don’t need to worry about it anymore.
4 - Cheat. Ryunosuke doesn’t play fair. And whether that means kneeing someone in the crotch when fighting them, or stacking the deck when playing poker, he does it almost habitually, and without remorse. To Ryunosuke, cheating is an added dimension to any game, it simply makes things more interesting. You then have to account for the normal rules, as well as the unexpected. In some ways, Ryunosuke thinks that he’s doing a service to the original rules by adding the depth associated with cheating.
5 - Two Hollow Holes. This isn’t like a serious flaw, but it is a bizarre physical defect that has gotten Ryunosuke in some shit in the past. People have questioned whether or not he’s even a real Arrancar (which is one of the strangest experiences that Ryunosuke has ever gone through in his life, undoubtably), or what the second hole means about his soul.To Ryunosuke, it isn’t something he really thinks about, or has any desire to think about. His body is the way it is, and that can’t be changed.
6 - Tangled Web Of Lies. Ryunosuke is making alliances with numerous people, many of whom have conflicting goals. At the moment, he’s navigating it successfully, and given his strength relative to a large number of them, he’s confident that if worse comes to worse, he’ll be able to beat down one or two of them. But right now, it could all blow up in his face if he’s not careful. At some point, lies are going to conflict, promises are going to oppose each other, and Ryunosuke is gonna have to burn one, or several, of his bridges.
Habits:
1 - Cursing up a fucking storm. As detaled in his flaws section, Ryunosuke curses. Like, a lot. It's hard for him to speak formally without sneaking in a "fuck" or two.
2 - Referring to his superiors casually (although one instance of calling Kuroi ‘Bro’ has caused him to reconsider this). Ryunosuke is a laid back individual, and this seeps into all of his speech patterns.
3 - “Boom goes the dynamite!" This is a line that Ryunosuke is known to say after blowing up buildings and other large ares. It is said almost singsongy, and as a joke for whoever survived the blow.
4 - Brushing back his hair with his right hand. Ryunosuke's hair is rather unruly, and constantly needs to be brushed back. That, and Ryunosuke was once told he looked hot when he did that.
5 - Keeping his hands in pockets unless they are needed. Concealing his hands is one trick that Ryunosuke is unwilling to unlearn from his days in the assasin trade. Largely because he thinks it looks cool.
6 - Lying and cheating with little to no reason. This one isn't too common of a habit in that it rarely comes up. But Ryunosuke is the Espada of deception, and it shows. In a card game with no stakes, he'll cheat. In a conversation among friends, sometimes he'll lie.
7 - “Let’s. Get. Dangerous.” Typically this is spoken right before Ryunosuke goes all out. It is almost his release phrase. It is said haltingly, through gritted teeth.
8 - “Heh. You could never forget about me.” There isn't a specific time when Ryunosuke says it, he just says it a lot. It seems to be a variant on a line from a human world song, although few people have noticed that.
9 - Casually throwing around Ceros that could kill entire Squads of the Gotei 13. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but Ryunosuke's spiritual power is immense and unmatched, and the Ceros that are produced are epic in scale.
10 - Showing off in fights, even when lives are at stake. As will be detailed in his fighting style, Ryunosuke shows off. A lot. He doesn't lose out on efficency because of it, but the showboating nature can sometimes put other things at risk.
Fears:
1 - Death. No shit Ryunosuke fears death, he went through that once and it absolutely sucked. He’d be an idiot not to fear it happening again. Ryunosuke is headstrong, of course, but there’s somewhat of a limit to his bravado. He will step out if things get too dangerous, and he’s very good at escaping fights. He isn’t a coward, few people would be capable of seriously calling him that and surviving to tell the tale, but he just really isn’t fond of the concept of dying.
2 - Getting Backstabbed. Ryunosuke doesn’t have trust issues, he simply just doesn’t trust anyone. Or rather, he trusts them as much as they should trust him, which is as close to zero as you can get without actually being zero. This is largely because he doesn’t want to be blind-sided by someone he thought he could rely on. After all, if you never trust anyone, no one can ever betray that trust. Ryunosuke fears being backstabbed almost as much as he fears death.
3 - Dying In His Sleep. Similar to being backstabbed, Ryunosuke is not a fan of the idea that someone would attack him when he is most vulnerable, and that paranoia typically keeps him from sleeping much, or having a high quality of sleep when he does actually fall asleep. Of course, he’s started to just be clever and set up traps, so that no one can possibly catch him when he’s sleeping, but that’s a lot of work, and he’s beginning to question whether or not it’s worth it.
4 - Getting Demoted. Okay, if one of the other Espada somehow took his spot, Ryunosuke would be goddamn ashamed of himself. Like, you have to be bad with a capital B to lose a spot to someone you’re already meant to be stronger than. If Ryunosuke ever got taken out by one of the Espada numbered 5-10, he’d probably off himself. Either that, or defect to another organization. Really, those are his only real options, he’d never be able to live with himself as a shittier spot.
5 - Getting Outgunned. Look, Ryunosuke knows that he doesn’t have a release, and that on some level makes him lamer than the other Espada. On the other hand, he can confidently say that none of them can match him in terms of pure offensive power, in terms of “I can level an entire apartment complex with little effort.” However, if someone was to waltz up, and prove that they had more raw destruction power, AND they had a release, he’d look horrible in comparison. He fears the idea that someone could do that, but feels content knowing that such a person would be a monster of a whole ‘nother level.
Goals:
1 - Establish Criminal Influence Further. Ryunosuke has an in with two of the five most dominant figures in the Spiritual underground, and hopes to expand this influence further. Now, the question is, will he start dealing with illegal affairs himself, or is he just going to stick with assisting people who are personally doing illegal things? Ryunosuke, despite his position as the Segunda, doesn't see himself as a leader per se, but rather as a hitman in the service of a greater cause. So, likely, for the future, he'll stick with a simple goal: become allies with Satsujun, Kayneth Wayne, and Anarchy.
2 - Collect All The Bounties In The Bingo Book. Okay, this one is a little overzealous, and not realistic in the slightest, but despite his position of Cuarta Espada, Ryunosuke is still a bounty hunter at heart, and figures that that’s the best way he could make a name for himself. He’d make exceptions for his allies, of course (Grimoire, Adalo, Kuroi are all off limits), and this is more of a long term goal than anything else (because let’s be real, there’s no way he can beat Sozen right now), but one day, eventually, Ryunosuke is gonna collect bounty after bounty after bounty.
3 - Take Vengeance on Xcution. Those assholes denied him a job offer just because he was an Arrancar, which is like three different kinds of fucked. Thus, Ryunosuke swore vengeance upon them, and is likely going to follow through at some point. What type of vengeance will occur? Honestly, he doesn’t know at this point. Probably isn’t going to be destroy the whole organization, likely is going to be more along the lines of “kill off a high percentage of their leadership.” But it’s all in the air right now.
4 - Find a Place Where He Belongs. Yes, it sounds cheesy, which is exactly why Ryunosuke doesn’t talk about this personal goal. But quite honestly, Ryunosuke isn’t certain if he belongs in Las Noches. He feels unlike any of the other Espada, and it’s not like he’s on great terms with any of them in particular. Maybe he’ll settle in and figure out that Las Noches is the right place for him, maybe not. But if it turns out that there’s a better place out there, Ryunosuke will go there. Almost no hesitation.
Alignment: True Neutral
Aspect of Death: Deception
Overall Personality:
“Baby, seasons change, but people don’t.”
Ryunosuke’s world has changed around him an incredible amount during his lifetime. Even during his time as a human, the world was a tumultuous place, and once he died, things just got even more complicated. Surviving as a Hollow in the desert of Hueco Mundo requires the ability to deal with chaos that surrounds and consumes everything within it, and Ryunosuke not only survived it, but came out on top, becoming a powerful Vasto Lorde and eventually the Cuarta Espada.
But despite this, Ryunosuke hasn’t changed that much from when he was a human, and that’s what makes him strange. The world has changed, but Ryunosuke hasn’t. Of course, he is quite definitively less human, he has the holes and mask fragments to prove it, but he isn’t quite as monstrous as the other Espada. He doesn’t have the insanity nor the rage of Adalo, or the superiority complex of Myza, nor the pure and utter killing intent of Kuroi Naito.
Well, that last one is somewhat a lie, actually. Ryunosuke does possess incredible amounts of killing intent. But the difference between Kuroi Naito and Ryunosuke is that Ryunosuke is far better at hiding his desire to hurt things. To compare the two would be like examining the difference between a silenced pistol and a sniper rifle. Kuroi is a silenced pistol, his killing intent is muffled, although not completely, unless he is trying to send a message. Ryunosuke’s killing intent, on the other hand, is never obvious to those who are the targets of it until it is far too late.
Ryunosuke is a deceptive person at heart, which is why it is his aspect of death. He’s a cheat, in cards and in fights, and he lies a surprising amount. He’ll lie when he finds it funny, or when he has something to gain. He’s not a pathological liar, but he’s a very good one, and uses it to his advantage. He likes having the upper hand of knowledge whenever he can possess it, and he leverages it to it’s utmost advantage in fights, and in social interactions.
Ryunosuke is a violent individual, someone who likes to fight people and hurt things, and who is very good at it. His first reaction, when bored out of his mind, is to find someone to fight. If there is a situation where kicking ass and taking names is a viable solution, he’ll take it. Ryunosuke is a talented fighter, but one of the most important things about him is that he knows his own limits, and backs off once he reaches them. He’s not bloodthirsty to a suicidal degree, he just likes the feeling of hurting people, because he’s good at it. It’s less of the fact they are hurt, and more of that he hurt them, if that distinction makes sense.
Honestly though, despite the violence, despite the tendency to deceive, Ryunosuke is generally a decent person to hang around. He’s easy going, that’s a trait that is very obvious, and is more than happy to just lie around and shoot the shit with other people. He curses a lot, sure, but that shouldn’t scare you off, typically he doesn’t aim his filthy mouth at people that he enjoys the company of. He has a fair number of surprisingly ‘normal’ interests, and certainly isn’t someone you’d assume to be an Arrancar when you first met him.
We should probably mention by this point that Ryunosuke is somewhat of a flirt. While there certainly people who are more over the top than he is, Ryunosuke does sometimes push boundaries a bit. He’ll back off if someone makes it clear that they are uncomfortable, sure, but up until then, he’s less good about knowing when enough is enough. However, the bizarre thing is that he get’s super defensive and uncomfortable when it seems like something is gonna come out of the flirting. He’s happy when people flirt back, less happy when they lean in for a kiss, and has been known to bolt when that occurs.
A potential issue with Ryunosuke, is that right now he is content with life. He doesn’t have an overwhelming amount of ambition, and despite it being possible (although unlikely) for him to take a higher spot than Cuarta, he has shown no interest in doing so. His focus lies within affairs outside of Hueco Mundo, such as taking Xcution down a few pegs, or collecting bounties from the Bingo Book. Hell, in some cases, it’s both. Zackary Jensen has a target on his back, whether he knows it or not.
“I’m a loose bolt of a complete machine”
This is the part of Ryunosuke’s personality where things start to get a little more…hazy, perhaps. This is the part that he himself isn’t certain of, and thus it’s almost impossible for anyone else to grasp. This is the part that he doesn’t talk about, doesn’t project, doesn’t do anything at all to inform people that it is the case. That is because Ryunosuke is worried, and possibly ashamed of his desires in this regard: he feels utterly lost, and is concerned that he settled by joining Las Noches.
Under his ‘Devil may care’ attitude, hidden by his desire to kick all sorts of ass, Ryunosuke actually suffers from a existential crisis of sorts, in that he is perpetually unsure where he is meant to go in life. When he was a human, he thought it was the criminal underworld, before he tried to quit that life and rejoin ‘normal’ society. Then that failed to work, and he died, coming back as a Hollow. As a Hollow, he isolated himself, and assumed that his role in life was to be a monster.
But he wasn’t great at being a monster. He was vicious, sure, and destroyed everything in his path, devouring Hollows, Humans, Soul Reapers alike. But on the other hand, there was no real enjoyment there. There was hardly any satisfaction to be gained from eating people even. It was just a way to pass the time. And so still, as a Hollow, Ryunosuke felt lost, felt lost and confused. Until the point finally came when he underwent a natural mask break, after destroying a large host of enemies as a Vasto Lorde.
Then, now an Arrancar, Ryunosuke was desperate to find an organization to swear allegiance to, find a place to fit in, find a place that had a perfect spot open just for him. And so he went to the human world, and found the largest criminal organization he could, Xcution. But they rejected him, stating that Arrancars were for Hueco Mundo. And so, he wandered back over there, desperate to find someone willing to take him in, and somewhere he was willing to work.
And so he found Las Noches, and swore fealty to Kouhai. And although Ryunosuke thinks that Kouhai is great and all, he’s a little worried about his coworkers. Because none of them seem to be like him. Adalo is a monster, the only place other than Las Noches for him would be Hell. Kuroi is basically the same, although his monstrosity is focused rather than insane. Sargon has delusions of grandeur, the only spot for him other than Tercera would be as King, and that isn’t realistic.
And going down the list, this just becomes more and more clear. Everyone else in Las Noches is satisfied with the way things are, so Ryunosuke’s fear that he might be in the wrong place is exacerbated further. Ryunosuke knows that there is a place where he belongs, that he wasn’t born to wander. But the thing that he is uncertain about is whether he’ll know the place when he finds it. And that is the key aspect of Ryunosuke’s personality that he’ll never admit to, and will do his absolute best to hide.
