Dislikes: 1. Artificial Strawberry Flavor: Nero is more of a fan of the natural flavors of life, especially strawberry. In contrast he is not a fan of the artificial flavors. To him, depending on the artificial flavors, it tends to be too strong on the strawberry , too sweet, or just not done right. Regardless, he has a strong dislike of artificial strawberry flavor. Of things that have artificial strawberries in them, Nero especially dislikes generic strawberry hard candy and drinks. However despite a dislike for artificial strawberry flavors. He does enjoy strawberry ice cream, as well as strawberry flavored drinks if no other drink is available.
2. Black Olives: Nero, despite being bitter himself, does not like black olives for the fact that they are bitter and have a strong flavor to them. He dislikes them inside of sandwiches and he dislikes them inside of salads in fact there is no redeeming quality when it comes to drupes. He just avoids them like a plague, and if he even smells a hint of black olives inside of the meal he will avoid eating the entire thing out of spite and disrespect.
3. Smell of Cigars: Nero already has a disdain for cigarette smells because of their harsh and unpleasant smells. This is not made better by the fact that cigars tend to have a sharper smell to its odor and apparently the sharper the smell the better the quality of cigar it is something that he does not appreciate or even enjoy. In fact he goes out of his way to prevent people from even smoking or smelling as if they smoked from coming into his office.
4. Asparagus: While a lot of Nero’s senses are especially sensitive due to his lack of sight, Nero’s sense of smell is particularly sensitive. While asparagus do not have an inherent bad smell if not a bad taste Nero’s issue with asparagus is the fact that they make one's urine smell horrendous after a right amount has been consumed. Whether it is consumed by himself or another individual Nero dreads whenever he has to use the restroom.
5. Gorgons: Nero has read plenty of mythology books regarding Greek myths and beliefs. His fascination peaked when he had learned about Gorgons and the battle of Medusa. Nero is aware that in a world of Hollows, Shinigami and himself there will probably be a beast or monster out there with the same capabilities of Medusa. And rather than fear the Gorgons for their capabilities. He feels a sense of disgust as one would towards a roach.
6. The Heat:
7. Facial Hair:
8. Loud People:
9. Addressing Civilians:
10. Civilians:
Hates: 1. Hollows: Nero hates hollows as naturally as fish swim or as naturally as a living being breathes. Hollows are the reason why Nero came to be and this fact is something that he takes as seriously as he does the Words of Der Kaiser. There will never be a moment where Nero will tolerate a hollow being in his presence let alone an Arrancar or more. The only reason why he would talk to an arrancar would be to mock it if not aggravate. Nero hates Hollows and every Arrancar is just a hollow pretending it is human.
2. Turn-Coat Quincy: To turn your back on Der Kaiser and to consider yourself a Quincy is to declare yourself a fool in Nero’s Eyes. When the Shinigami began to slaughter their kind for existing who had their back. Der Kaiser. Der Kaiser was responsible for giving them the power to control the population of Hollows. Through Der Kaiser Quincies became what they were meant to be. And to turn your back onto Der Kaiser is to turn your back on what it is to be a Quincy. Most if not all Turn coat Quincies are fired upon immediately upon discovery. 3. Cowards:
4. Idiots:
5. Talkative People:
6. Shinigami:
Likes: 1. Plato’s Allegory of the cave: Of the several stories that Nero enjoys to take time and read, the Allegory of the cave by Plato will always be a pill that Nero struggles to swallow deep down. He understands the position he is in is a result of being born into the Vandenreich, he understands that his views and beliefs are shaped by Der Kaiser and yet this will always be the reality that he lives.
2. Peach Flavored Ice Cream: Nero enjoys Peach flavored ice cream a little more than he enjoys the fruit itself. Peaches were always the treat he enjoyed both in his past life and after he died. A childhood favorite Nero finds the best way to enjoy it is by utilizing the resources around him and have Peach flavored ice cream almost at the ready in various forms ranging from pints to ice cream bars.
3. Spicy Food: However in contrast in his life Nero had enjoyed sweeter starchy foods. When he died, Nero’s change in food changed towards the spicier side. He enjoys the excitement his taste buds experience. He enjoys the feeling as if he is unable to overcome the pain, the sensation that he will overcome the pain and thoroughly enjoys the euphoria when it comes to after the burn. Spicy foods in a way is to remind Nero that for better or for worse and against his will he is alive. He is still alive and something has yet to change that.
4. Reading: Nero at the end of the day has an unending thirst for knowledge. He desires to read books from libraries similar to the Great Library of Alexandria. He has a desire to understand the world around himself and lessons in history that the Vandenreich can stand to learn or else they will be doomed to repeat the same mistake.
5. Hunting Hollows:
6. Bluegrass:
7. Rum:
8. Latin: Nero in his previous life was actually fairly proficient in Latin. He had after all prayed and believed in a different God. He was a part of a different Church and part of something different as a whole. Latin, despite turning towards a Truer God still hits a soft and close home to Nero to the point where he will still utilize it when referencing Der Kaiser or in general when it comes to worshiping the Vandenreich.
9. The smell of Lavender: Lavender is the few things that were able to transfer in the short list of things Claywell liked that Nero conveniently still enjoys. Lavender is Nero’s childhood, while he seldomly remembers most of his childhood he still remembers vividly the smell of lavender, the laughter of childhood nonsense, adventures and a dream to be a Hero among his fellow men. A robinhood among the other Quincies who saved others from hollows and protected families. 10. Silence:
Loves: 1. Spanish Guitar:
2. Sound of pages turning: Nero, at the end of the day enjoys auditory stimulations. He enjoys when he is able to thoroughly immerse himself in silence except for the sounds that he is currently listening to. This is for a better lack of words Nero’s way of soothing himself in general when no one is around and he thoroughly checks to ensure that there is no one, or nothing around to interrupt.
3. The Piano:
4. Rome: Nero before he died, believed in a different God. In fact before he became a member of the Vandenreich, Nero was a member of the church in Rome. He had the same devotion he had given the Clergy in life as he did to the Vandenreich in death. Rome is home to Nero and when he, at some point dies again. Nero truly hopes that his soul will eventually also return Home. 5. Der Kaiser:
Flaws: 1. Extremely Arrogant: Despite the trials that Nero faces and despite being forced to spend his entire life in a wheelchair Nero believes that he, like other Quincies under Der Kaiser will be the ones that take the sole responsibility to ensure that the spirit balance is maintained. Because of this, Nero consistently believes that everything that occurs, occurred and will occur will happen because Der Kaiser wills it and in his mind, as a Quincy that serves Him. Nothing can go wrong and if it does, it was all because of Der Kaiser. 2. Sadistic:
3. Disrespectful:
4. Fanatical Self-sacrifice: At the very core of his personality, Nero wants to die. There is nothing in this world that is worth living for and The Vandenreich as well as Der Kaiser is everything that he wishes to die for. There is no sense of self, identity, or barely a person that remains within Nero other than a fervent need to die for Der Kaiser and to make his final death matter more than his first death.
Habits: 1. Gazes at the sky every morning:
2. Reciting his mantras:
3.
4.
5.
6
Fears: 1. Having his Insecurities revealed:
2. Losing Faith:
3. Being purified by a Shinigami: For Nero, death by a shinigami carries the risk of purification. This fate is something that Nero believes would break the very foundation of what he is. It strips away the glory of dying for Der Kaiser and takes away any and all chances for him to enter the afterlife that Der Kaiser had planned. For Nero he would rather be consumed by a Hollow and be purified by a fellow Quincy than face judgment by the Shinigami.
4. Vampires: While Nero is a realist and believes in things with a solid explanation to how or what things came into existence however he does believe in the existence of true vampires. He does not compare their existence to what he understands are Bounts and what he understands are vampires. Nero fears a vampire turning him into an immortal ageless being because he wishes to die serving Der Kaiser and the Vandenreic
5. Betrayal: Nero served the Vandenreich with all of his glory and all of his might before and after his death. His first death taught him how much betrayal stung and this stinging will continue even into his second life. Nero abhors traitors and he especially has a mistrust among some of the executive leadership because of his initial betrayal. Because of this the fear and the thought of it occurring again fills him with fear.
Goals: 1. Prove Worth to Der Kaiser:
2. Bring Greatness to The Vandenreich:
3. Die in Glory: Nero believes in nothing outside of the Vandenreich. He believes that Der Kaiser had already crafted an afterlife designed for people of his kind designed by His hands. However, in order to be deemed worthy to enter this kingdom. Nero believes that a death befitting of honoring Der Kaiser will be the only way to do so or the very least rather than die to a Shinigami. He dies by his own hands and takes anyone with him.
4. Learn Magic:
5. Understand why his hazing Failed: Even the greatest armies still experience a form of hazing among squads that are small enough that word never gets to the higher ups or as far as anyone lower than Captain Supervisor is concerned and these hazings despite having people that should practice disciplined decision making, Nero wonders why did his fail, why did his life change. Why was he broken.
Alignment: [Neutral Evil]
Overall Personality:
Nero can be described in three words, Sarcastic, Sadistic, and straightforward. However, that was not always the case. To describe what Nero is it would be best to understand what Nero was before going to what he became. In his previous life, Nero can be described as a swashbuckling, charismatic pirate. He spoke to people with a joy that could outshine even the sun. He fought for his country in fact he fought for what he believed in until it was something that was dangerous to believe in the first place. Nero believed in everything Quincy was meant to be. A being that to the very core of their existence was meant to cleanse Hollows. To cleanse the world of the pain and the suffering that they brought to those around them. In his previous life, Nero had enjoyed painting the things that he had seen in life, especially that of nature, the trees and the water; the dirt melting into mud in the rain was something that he lived to see. In his free time Nero also spent it actively doing the thing he enjoyed, hunting hollows in order to prevent the next potential attack. To cull monsters that to his belief added nothing beneficial to the actual soul cycle. In his previous life, Nero would have been called Claywell and everything that Claywell was, is a representation of what was taken from Nero. Claywell died among every other Quincy killed during the great purge.
A man like Nero, who has experienced death once is already dead and will never have the chance to experience life again. What this means is that for himself, life is the Vandenreich. When he died, Claywell truly did die and in his place the shell that became Nero was birthed. When one observes him from afar, he always wears a bored if not emotionless gaze. Even when he speaks each word is sometimes slowly dragged as if the entire conversation was simply a task beneath him and when he does find the effort and the time to speak it is often in a condescending tone one would believe he was merely insulting the air if only he didn’t make an extra effort to turn in the direction of the person he is insulting. Nero is a sadist to put it lightly Nero is a person that enjoys finding soft spots in people he is conversing with and when that soft spot is found he enjoys grinding his heel far into it. He doesn't call people by name merely by Rank or a characteristic if under ranked.
However, despite being sadistic, a key character trait that Nero also has is that he will always be straightforward unless another approach would suit his personal goals better. Whether it is towards enemies or towards allies regardless of the rank and the relationship that he may or may not have with anyone. This brutal straightforwardness is in a way Nero’s way to cope with what is currently going on and with his future from the moment he was let down to the moment he will be laid to rest whether peacefully or violently why give others the affordance. With that being said Nero also tactfully finds ways to also deliver news another way if it suits his personal goals in a better way. Rarely there are good days when Nero drops the frosty attitude and warms up towards his fellow Vandenreich members among personal associates alike. While he maintains a cat-like superiority tone it is far less condescending than the tone he gives any other time. He is still willing to throw in insults when regarding certain members of the Vandenreich however he will tend to throw that insult with a smile. As if to show an attempt to say “eh?” rather than give people the atmosphere icing glare of “Why are you still standing there?” These moments are usually accompanied when the Captain supervisor has had the pleasure of drinking for the evening which is a rare moment. And even rarer would one find Nero in these moods when he was sober.
Nero rarely holds friendships if anything else when he speaks with people who are attempting to be friends with him, he usually steers the topic towards the mission or the reason why they initiated the conversation. Answering every question with facts or with a strong opinion that it might as well be facts and responding to every question answered with noises that one would feel as if they were a test subject being studied by an examiner rather than a friend listening. This however does not mean that attempts at being friends are in vain it does however show the long path it feels one takes when trying to be friends with the man.
One would truly find themselves in the few accepted inner circles of “friends” when Nero tolerated your presence around him silently, only speaking when spoken to or needing something from the other person. While others may find this to be rude, they will also find that he will always address them by Rank and Name, never mispronouncing a name or adding in an insult. This is a way for Nero to show that you are free to come and go whenever you choose. He will freely share the knowledge and the power that he has been bestowed to those inside of this circle freely.
On the opposite end of the spectrum the enemies and traitors Nero bestows the hottest of arrogance. One would find Nero’s attitude similar to a cartoon villain eating a foolishly large tower of a sandwich in front of a starving child. Because in Nero’s eyes in order to give the enemy a fair fight they had the misfortune of meeting Nero. That everything happened the way they occurred because any fight that would have happened in his prime would have merely been too much, that every race from the lowly Hollow to the purest of Quincy can only advance when faced with adversity and Nero would have been an impossible adversity for all to face. This leads everything to the very core: before Nero there is nothing but the Vandenreich. Every battle he steps into, every time he speaks it is with the words of the Vandenreich and for the Vandenreich because anything else he cannot imagine existing for that even with a broken body Der Kaiser chose to bestow his gift upon. That rather than be cursed to reincarnate into another life be given the chance to serve something greater. Before Nero nothing else but the Vandenreich exists and this leads to the greatest tragedies that Nero faces. Before Nero nothing exists But the Vandenreich and the Shinigami took everything but the Vandenreich from him and he knows that if the goal of Der Kaiser is not achieved then Nothing will exist before Nero and he truly will experience death and this is when he truly believed everything existed the way they did as the wolf culls the deer population from overpopulation. Nero exists within the Vandenreich to remind others that Nothing Exists Before Nero But The Vandenreich.
